Abstract
Thinking outside the box of the phenalenyl radical: a systematic structure design strategy, phenalenyl tiling, is found to benefit the electron transport properties of open-shell graphene fragments with one free radical. Compared with the closed-shell species, phenalenyl-based π-radicals exhibit smaller intramolecular reorganization energies and larger intermolecular electronic couplings. However, the on-site Coulomb repulsion can be too strong and impedes the charge transport efficiency of such materials. The repulsion can be weakened in radical species by spin delocalization. In this paper, the extended π-radicals we studied are categorized into three types of open-shell structures: the zigzag, the armchair and the discotic odd alternant hydrocarbons. The latter two belong to phenalenyl tilings. We found that the phenalenyl tilings fully inherit the desirable features of the singly occupied molecular orbital of the phenalenyl radical in a predictable and delocalized fashion, and their on-site Coulomb repulsion is effectively reduced. The zigzag π-radicals are less satisfactory. Therefore, the phenalenyl tilings are favorable candidates for charge transporting materials.

Abstract
Based on the strand-like coordination polymer (CP) type 1 ∞ [Ln(BSB)3 (py)2 ], [BSB]- =bis-salicylatoborate anion, mixed Eu/Tb-containing compounds of the constitution 1 ∞ [Eux Tb1-x (BSB)3 (py)2 ] were synthesised ionothermally for a phase width of (x=0.25-0.75) and characterized regarding structure and optical properties. Previously, known only for other lanthanides, the mixed 1D-Eu/Tb-CPs show excellent options for statistic replacement of the Ln-cations during synthesis yielding solid solutions. The products are highly luminescent, with the chromaticity being a direct function of the amount of the respective Ln-ions. Corresponding to an overall addition of emission intensities, the green Tb3+ emission and the red Eu3+ emission allow for a chromaticity control that also includes yellow emission. Control of the luminescence colour renders them suitable examples of the versatility of statistic replacement of metal ions in coordination chemistry. In addition, crystallization of [EMIm]2 [YCl5 (py)] illuminates possible other products of the ionothermal reactions of [EMIm][BSB] with LnCl3 constituted by components not being part of the main CPs.

Abstract
Localised singlet diradicals are key intermediates in bond homolysis, which plays a crucial role in chemical reactions. However, thorough experimental analyses of the reaction dynamics and chemical properties are generally difficult because bond formation is rapid, even under low-temperature matrix conditions. In this study, the effects of solvent and pressure on the lifetimes of long-lived singlet diradicals with bulky substituents were investigated. The solvent dynamic effect was revealed to provide control over the rate constant of radical-radical coupling reactions, and an almost bottleable singlet diradical with a lifetime of ∼2 s at 293 K was obtained.

Abstract
The ability to tune the physical properties of bistable organic functional materials by means of chemistry can facilitate their development for molecular electronic switching components. The butylamine-containing biphenalenyl boron neutral radical, [Bu]2 B, crystalline compound has recently attracted significant attention by displaying a hysteretic phase transition accompanied by simultaneous bistability in magnetic, electrical, and optical properties close to room temperature. In this report, substitutional doping was applied to [Bu]2 B by crystallizing solid solutions of bistable [Bu]2 B and its non-radical-containing counterpart [Bu]2 Be. With increasing doping degree, the hysteretic phase transition is gradually suppressed in terms of reducing the height, but conserves the width of the hysteresis loop as observed through magnetic susceptibility and electrical conductivity measurements. At the critical doping level of about 6 %, the abrupt transformation of the crystal structure to that of the pure [Bu]2 Be crystal packing was observed, accompanied by a complete collapse of the hysteresis loop. Further study of the structure-properties relationships of bistable neutral radical conductors based on the [Bu]2 B host can be conducted utilizing a variety of biphenalenyl-based molecular conductors.

Abstract
To develop a simple and efficient synthetic method for four-coordinate triarylboranes, we herein describe a tandem highly selective B-Cl/C-B cross-metathesis of two of the same or different arylboranes and C-H bond borylation to synthesize four-coordinate triarylboranes with a broad substrate scope. By switching substituent groups of the target molecules, different emission wavelengths can be achieved from 467 nm to 583 nm with aggregation-induced emission (AIE) properties.

Abstract
Herein we report a transition-metal-free synthetic protocol for heterobiaryls, one of the most important pharmacophores in the modern drug industry, employing a new multidonor phenalenyl (PLY)-based ligand. The current procedure offers a wide substrate scope (24 examples) with a low catalyst loading resulting in an excellent product yield (up to 95%). The reaction mechanism involves a single electron transfer (SET) from a phenalenyl-based radical to generate a reactive heteroaryl radical. To establish the mechanism, we have isolated the catalytically active SET initiator, characterizing by a magnetic study.

Abstract
Among single component molecular conductors, neutral radical gold dithiolene complexes [(R-thiazdt)2 Au]. derived from the N-alkyl-1,3-thiazoline-2-thione-4,5-dithiolate (R-thiazdt) ligand provide an extensive series of conducting, non-dimerized, half-filled band systems. Analogues of the known R=isopropyl (iPr) derivative were investigated here with R=NMe2 , cyclopropyl (cPr) and n-propyl (nPr), aiming at rationalizing the different solid state structures adopted by these compounds despite very closely related substituents on the heterocyclic nitrogen atom. An original crisscross organization within dimerized chains is observed with R=NMe2 , differing however from the analogous iPr derivative by a 180° rotation of the heterocyclic nitrogen substituent. On the other hand, the cyclopropyl and n-propyl substituents lead to robust, uniform, non-dimerized chains with a strongly 1 D electronic structure and a formal half-filled electronic structure. The semiconducting behaviour of these two radical complexes is characteristic of a Mott insulator, whose sensitivity to external pressure has been evaluated up to 2.5 GPa.

Abstract
Control of band filling or doping of molecular (semi)conductors can be performed by substitutional insertion of molecules with a similar shape but a different electron count, with one more or one less electron. This strategy has been explored here within the semiconducting, single-component, radical gold dithiolene complex [AuOC4] bearing para-butoxyphenyl substituents. Alloying with the corresponding neutral nickel dithiolene complex [NiOC4] lacking one electron afforded a complete isostructural series [NiOC4]1-x[AuOC4]x, spanning the whole composition range from x = 0 to x = 1 by 0.1 increments, further characterized by X-ray diffraction and EDX analyses. Magnetic susceptibility data confirm the antiferromagnetic interactions between neighboring radical gold dithiolene complexes. The electrical conductivity increases exponentially with the x gold fraction, while the activation energy remains constant in the more conducting, gold-rich samples. This behavior is tentatively assigned to the tunneling barriers of variable width (with x) but of constant height, separating more conducting gold-rich segments. Comparison of redox potentials for the 1e(-) oxidation and reduction of both [NiOC4] and [AuOC4] dithiolene complexes indicates that the [NiOC4] nickel complex does not act as a dopant for the radical [AuOC4] complex.

Abstract
We report the substitutional doping of solid-state spiro-bis(5-methyl-1,9-oxido-phenalenyl)boron radical ([2]2B) by co-crystallization of this radical with the corresponding spiro-bis(5-methyl-1,9-oxido-phenalenyl)beryllium compound ([2]2Be). The pure compounds crystallize in different space groups ([2]2B, P1̅, Z = 2; [2]2Be, P2₁/c, Z = 4) with distinct packing arrangements, yet we are able to isolate crystals of composition [2]2B(1-x)Be(x), where x = 0-0.59. The phase transition from the P1̅ to the P2₁/c space group occurs at x = 0.1, but the conductivities of the solid solutions are enhanced and the activation energies reduced for values of x = 0-0.25. The molecular packing is driven by the relative concentration of the spin-bearing ([2]2B) and spin-free ([2]2Be) molecules in the crystals, and the extended Hückel theory band structures show that the progressive incorporation of spin-free [2]2Be in the lattice of the [2]2B radical (overall bandwidth, W = 1.4 eV, in the pure compound) leads to very strong narrowing of the bandwidth, which reaches a minimum at [2]2Be (W = 0.3 eV). The results provide a graphic picture of the structural transformations undergone by the lattice, and at certain compositions we are able to identify distinct structures for the [2]2B and [2]2Be molecules in a single crystalline phase.
