Abstract
Irradiation of mixtures of title diazonium salts and heteroarenes with green light (510 nm) in the presence of eosin Y disodium salt (EY-Na2) as a photocatalyst furnished the corresponding arylation products in 8-63% yields. The proposed photocatalytic cycle is analogous to that proposed previously for closely related photoredox C-H arylations with aryl diazonium salts as aryl radical sources. This method has a broad substrate scope and represents a metal-free alternative for the synthesis of 3-heteroaryl-substituted 4H-quinolizin-4-ones and azino- and azolo-fused pyrimidones with a bridgehead nitrogen atom.

Abstract
Cyclisations of benzyl ortho-iodoaryl ethers to benzo[c]chromenes can be effected without reagents or catalysts by irradiation with UVC under flow. Reactions proceed via triplet aryl cation generation, 5-exo and 3-exo-cyclisations, and rearomatisation. They have wide scope, are easy to effect and extend to a myriad of related ring systems.

Abstract
Bimolecular excited-state proton-coupled electron transfer (PCET*) was observed for reaction of the triplet MLCT state of [(dpab)2Ru(4,4'-dhbpy)]2+ (dpab = 4,4'-di(n-propyl)amido-2,2'-bipyridine, 4,4'-dhbpy = 4,4'-dihydroxy-2,2'-bipyridine) with N-methyl-4,4'-bipyridinium (MQ+) and N-benzyl-4,4'-bipyridinium (BMQ+) in dry acetonitrile solutions. The PCET* reaction products, the oxidized and deprotonated Ru complex, and the reduced protonated MQ+ can be distinguished from the excited state electron transfer (ET*) and the excited state proton transfer (PT*) products by the difference in the visible absorption spectrum of the species emerging from the encounter complex. The observed behavior differs from that of reaction of the MLCT state of [(bpy)2Ru(4,4'-dhbpy)]2+ (bpy = 2,2'-bipyridine) with MQ+, where initial ET* is followed by diffusion-limited proton transfer from the coordinated 4,4'-dhbpy to MQ0. The difference in observed behavior can be rationalized based on changes in the free energies of ET* and PT*. Substitution of bpy with dpab results in the ET* process becoming significantly more endergonic and the PT* reaction becoming somewhat less endergonic.

Abstract
The thermal and photochemical Balz-Schiemann reaction in commonly used solvents was revisited under catalyst- and additive-free conditions. The study showed that using low- or non-polar solvents could improve the pyrolysis and photolysis of aryldiazonium tetrafluoroborates, enabling effective fluorination at a low temperature or under visible-light irradiation. PhCl and hexane were exemplified as cheap and reliable solvents for both reactions, providing good to excellent yields of aryl fluorides from the corresponding diazonium tetrafluoroborates. The combination of slight heating with visible-light irradiation was beneficial for the transformation of stable aryldiazonium tetrafluoroborates. Nevertheless, the electronic and steric nature of aryldiazonium tetrafluoroborates still had a pivotal effect on both fluorinations even in these solvents.

Abstract
The concentration of nitrite (NO2-) ions above allowable limits in water resources and food stuffs is considered hazardous and has been proven to be of great threat to the environment and public health. In this work, an acenaphtho [1,2-d] imidazole derivative (1) as a ratiometric colorimetric probe is developed. UV-Vis experiments demonstrate that the probe 1 shows excellent selectivity toward NO2- in the presence of other potential interfering species, a rapid response (20 s) and a low detection limit (100 nM) by a distinct visual color change with a bathochromic shift of 120 nm from colorless to intense yellow. Besides, this probe is further used for the quantification of nitrite ions in environmental water resources such as tap water, underground water, and surface water samples. The high recoveries (96-99% with relative standard deviations (RSD) of <2.0%) make the probe 1 a promising candidate for practical applications in daily life in the detection of nitrite ions.

Abstract
Photocatalysis can generate radicals in a controlled fashion and has become an important synthetic strategy. However, limitations due to the reducibility of alkyl halides prevent their broader implementation. Herein we explore the use of nucleophiles that can substitute the halide and serve as an electron capture motif that normalize the variable redox potentials across substrates. When used with photocatalysis, bench-stable, commercially available collidinium salts prove to be excellent radical precursors with a broad scope.

Abstract
The electrochemical generation of aryldiazonium salts from nitroarenes in a two-phase system (ethyl acetate/water) was reported for the first time. Some compounds including azo, azosulfone, and arylazides were prepared in good yields with good purity. Cathodically generated aryldiazoniums and anodically produced copper(Ι) ions were used to perform Sandmeyer reactions. To improve the method, an H-type self-driving cell equipped with a Zn rod as an anode was introduced and used for two-phase aryldiazonium production.

Abstract
The sterically crowded, highly electron-deficient diazonium salt C6 (CF3 )5 N2 + BF4 - has been synthesized and sample dediazotization reactions were carried out. New compounds, C6 (CF3 )5 I, C6 (CF3 )5 NO2 , and C6 (CF3 )5 NO were isolated and identified. Also, a more convenient route to C6 (CF3 )5 NH2 that gave good yield was achieved.

Abstract
The nonaccessibility of phenyl cations by irradiation of electron-poor aryl chlorides was circumvented by transforming the carbonyl group of aromatic ketones or aldehydes into the corresponding 1,3-dioxolanes and the carboxyl group of benzoate ester into an orthoester functionality. This transformation allowed the heterolytic photoactivation of the Ar-Cl bond in protic media and the generation of phenyl cations. In the presence of π-bond nucleophiles, arylated products were obtained in good to excellent yields.

Abstract
Computations at the CASPT2, CBS-QB3, and B3LYP levels of theory demonstrate that beta-substitution of vinyl cations with pi-donors switches the ground state of these ions from the familiar closed-shell singlet state to a carbene-like triplet state similar to the electronic state of triplet phenyl cations. Although the parent vinyl cation is a ground-state singlet species with a very large energy gap to the lowest energy triplet state, substituting the beta hydrogens with just one strong pi-donor (e.g., NH(2), NMe(2), OMe) or two moderate pi-donors (e.g., F, OH, Ar, vinyl) makes the triplet state the computed ground electronic state. In many cases, the singlet states for these beta pi-donor-substituted vinyl cations are prone to rearrangements, although such rearrangements can be inhibited through incorporation of the pi-donors into rings. For example, a vinyl cation based on 1,3-dimethyl-2-methylene imidazolidine (32) is predicted to show a substantial barrier to singlet state rearrangement as well as possess a triplet ground state with a large energy gap. In contrast to the singlet states, the stabilized triplet states appear to be well behaved and more immune to rearrangements. These triplet ions may exhibit substantially different properties and reaction chemistry than those seen for typical closed-shell vinyl cations.
