Abstract
A new tandem decyanation/cyanation reaction of α-iminonitriles has been developed. A variety of cyano-substituted aryl amides and heteroaryl amides are synthesized in good yields. Both electron-rich and electron-deficient groups are compatible with the standard conditions. This reaction features a nonmetallic cyano source, tandem decyanation and cyanation reaction, waste utilization of the HCN from the hydrolysis of α-iminonitriles, formation of two important functional groups in one-step operation, etc.

Abstract
A direct and rapid method for the synthesis of α-iminonitriles achieved good to excellent yields. A novel intermolecular dehydration reaction between 2-aminopyridines and nitroalkenes is reported via a rare-earth-metal catalyst. The merits of this transformation include cyanide-free protocol, short reaction time, simple operation, water as the only byproduct, commercially available reagents, good functional group tolerance, etc. Moreover, nitroalkenes are demonstrated as a new "CN" source in this transformation.

Abstract
The reaction of oxime-tethered 1,6-enynes with a cationic gold(I) catalyst demonstrates a great potential for the synthesis of a range of heterocycles in a diastereospecific fashion. The control of the configuration of the oxime and the alkene of the enyne moiety is the key to selectively obtain dihydro-1,2-oxazines, isoxazolines or dihydropyrrole-N-oxides as single diastereoisomers. As supported by DFT calculations, these cascade reactions proceed stepwise, by the intramolecular addition of the O or N atom of the oxime onto cyclopropyl gold(I) carbene intermediates. In this study, a rare [3,3]-sigmatropic rearrangement of nitrones is also observed.

Abstract
An efficient one-pot synthesis of α-iminonitriles from readily available aryl halides via palladium-catalyzed double isocyanide insertion and elimination has been developed, without using various hypertoxic cyanides and excess oxidants. Furthermore, the utility of this reaction was demonstrated by the rapid total synthesis of quinoxaline and the reaction of functional groups exchanged with aryl halides.

Abstract
The aim of this work was to determine the parameters that have decisive roles in microwave-assisted reactions and to develop a model, using computational chemistry, to predict a priori the type of reactions that can be improved under microwaves. For this purpose, a computational study was carried out on a variety of reactions, which have been reported to be improved under microwave irradiation. This comprises six types of reactions. The outcomes obtained in this study indicate that the most influential parameters are activation energy, enthalpy, and the polarity of all the species that participate. In addition to this, in most cases, slower reacting systems observe a much greater improvement under microwave irradiation. Furthermore, for these reactions, the presence of a polar component in the reaction (solvent, reagent, susceptor, etc.) is necessary for strong coupling with the electromagnetic radiation. We also quantified that an activation energy of 20-30 kcal mol(-1) and a polarity (μ) between 7-20 D of the species involved in the process is required to obtain significant improvements under microwave irradiation.

Abstract
Mild and general alumina-promoted hydrolysis conditions for converting α-iminonitriles into carboxamides have been developed. In combination with the oxidative three-component Strecker reaction, the one-pot direct amidation of aldehydes and alcohols is reported. Subsequently, an Yb(OTf)(3)-catalyzed Michael addition of thiols to α,β-unsaturated α-iminonitriles is reported for the synthesis of β-mercapto-α-iminonitriles. The successful integration of an oxidative Strecker reaction, thio-Michael addition, and neutral-alumina-promoted hydrolysis of β-mercapto-α-iminonitriles into a three-component one-pot process allowed us to develop the direct conversion of amines, aldehydes, and thiols into β-mercaptoamides. All of these procedures were applicable to aromatic and aliphatic amines and aldehydes.

Abstract
Electron-deficient 1- and 2-azabuta-1,3-dienes are reagents intrinsically able to provide a wide range of cyclic and acyclic N-containing building blocks. Depending on their substitution, they behave as dienes for Diels-Alder reactions, as partners for [4+1], [3+2], [2+2]-cycloadditions, for aziridinations and as electrophiles for 1,2 and 1,4-additions. Nowadays, they are a very versatile family of compounds, despite their usual instability and complex reactivity. Four decades of research in this challenging area are reviewed in this critical review: their synthetic aspects and their reactivity towards a wide range of dienophiles, dipoles and nucleophiles are described as well. The introduction focuses on their electronic properties in order to get a clear picture of their reactivity (190 references).

Abstract
A new latrunculin, oxalatrunculin B (3), was isolated from Red Sea sponge Negombata corticata. Extensive spectroscopic analysis revealed an unprecedented heterocycle in which the rare thiazolidinone ring found in latrunculins was oxidized with three additional oxygens. An actin polymerization inhibition assay agreed with MM-PBSA free energy calculations that 3 binds more weakly than latrunculin B to actin. Significant antifungal and anticancer activity of 3 was found, suggesting an alternate target in addition to actin for latrunculin bioactivity.
