Abstract
Co2Pc2 (2) and Zn2Pc2 (3) were obtained in DMF and LuPc2 (4) was obtained in hexanol by the cyclotetramerization of novel diphthalonitrile (1). Synthesized compounds were characterized by FT-IR,1H-NMR, elemental analyses, MALDI-TOF MS and UV-vis spectroscopy techniques. Optimized geometries and electronic structures for compounds 2, 3 and 4 were investigated by Density Functional Theory (DFT) and Time Dependent Density Functional Theory (TD-DFT). In compound 2, a new bond was observed between Co centers forming two Co(III) with the interaction of d orbitals. Computational and experimental UV-vis spectra in DMF were found in agreement for the investigated compounds. Vertical and adiabatic ionization potentials for the studied systems were also calculated. The gate dielectric performances of thin films obtained from these compounds were investigated by fabricating ITO/2–4/Au devices. The observed reverse bias J-V characteristics revealed that the leakage current in ITO/2–4/Au devices is because of the Poole–Frenkel effect. The effect of the gate dielectric on the OFET performance parameters was also investigated by fabricating bottom-gate top-contact OFET using pentacene as the active layer. Maximum field effect mobility was observed with the 2-based OFET device. Calculated HOMO–LUMO gap, hole reorganization energy and ionization energy have also supported the experimental results which indicate that 2 is the most suitable system for OFET devices.

Abstract
Cyclometalated iridium (III) complexes (Ir1–Ir4) are calculated in detail with computational chemistry methods. The calculated structural parameters of Ir3 are compared with experimental values and a good fit is obtained. IR spectra are calculated at B3LYP/LANL2DZ/6-31G(d) level in the gases phase. Calculated 1H-NMR chemical shift values of the mentioned complexes are compared with the experimental data and all chemical shifts are assigned to the respective atoms. The quantum chemical parameters such as absolute hardness ([Formula: see text]), absolute softness ([Formula: see text]) electronegativity ([Formula: see text]), chemical potential ([Formula: see text]) and electronic charges ([Formula: see text]) are calculated and are associated with the experimental anti-cancer properties of the related complexes. Nonlinear optic properties of the Ir1–Ir4 were investigated with the average linear polarizability ([Formula: see text]), the anisotropy of the polarizability ([Formula: see text]), first hyperpolarizability ([Formula: see text]) values. Hole transfer ([Formula: see text]), electron transfer integrals ([Formula: see text]), hole reorganization energies ([Formula: see text]) and electron reorganization energies ([Formula: see text]) are examined. In addition, molecular docking study was performed. It was found that the molecular docking results are similar to the experimental anti-cancer trend.

Abstract
Push-pull functional compounds consisting of dicyanorhodanine derivatives have attracted a lot of interest because their optical, electronic, and charge transport properties make them useful as building blocks for organic photovoltaic implementations. The analysis of the frontier molecular orbitals shows that the vertical transitions of electronic absorption are characterized as intramolecular charge transfer; furthermore, we show that the analyzed compounds exhibit bathochromic displacements when comparing the presence (or absence) of solvent as an interacting medium. In comparison with materials defined by their energy of reorganization of electrons (holes) as electron (hole) transporters, we find a transport hierarchy whereby the molecule ( Z)-2-(1,1-dicyanomethylene)-5-[(4-dimethylamino)benzylidene]-1,3-thiazol-4 is better at transporting holes than molecule ( Z)-2-(1,1-dicyanomethylene)-5-(tetrathiafulvalene-2-ylidene)-1,3-thiazol-4.

Abstract
Two series of dyes have been designed and theoretically characterized through density functional theory and time-dependent density functional theory to systematically explore the structure–property relationship of dyes with D–A–π–A architecture and the performance of dye-sensitized solar cells, particularly the influence of the π-bridge, including its alkyl side chain, adding additional conjugate spacer, displacement, and separation of π-bridge. Key parameters associated with the short-circuit current density Jsc and open-circuit photovoltage Voc were characterized and analyzed in detail. All of the analysis results manifest that dye H1 should be the best candidate to fabricate dye-sensitized solar cells owing to the best optical absorption property (a broad absorption band from 300 to 900 nm for adsorbed dye) and other outstanding parameters.

Abstract
We studied chemical doping of trans- and cis-azobenzene on graphene by Raman spectroscopy. It was found that the molecule induces hole-doping in graphene through charge transfer. Moreover, the doping level in graphene can be reversibly modulated by a photocontrolled molecular conformation change. As trans-azobenzene isomerizes to the cis configuration under UV irradiation, we probe the dynamic molecular structural evolution of azobenzene on graphene by Raman spectroscopy. Raman analysis indicates the precise orientation of cis-azobenzene on the graphene surface, which brings us further comprehension of the effect of conformation change on the electronic properties of graphene. In particular, the substantial decreases of the doping level and chemical enhancement of the molecular signal are attributed to the weakening of hole transfer from molecule to graphene, owing to the lifting of the electron-withdrawing group away from the graphene. Moreover, the calculation results exhibit the favorable configuration of cis-azobenzene, which is in good agreement with Raman spectroscopic analysis. Our results highlight an approach for employing graphene as a promising platform for probing molecular conformation transition at the submolecular level by Raman spectroscopy.
