Unexpected Decarbonylation of Acylethynylpyrroles under the Action of Cyanomethyl Carbanion: A Robust Access to Ethynylpyrroles. Molecules 2023; 28:molecules28031389. Abstract
It has been found that the addition of CH2CN- anion to the carbonyl group of acylethynylpyrroles, generated from acetonitrile and t-BuOK, results in the formation of acetylenic alcohols, which undergo unexpectedly easy (room temperature) decomposition to ethynylpyrroles and cyanomethylphenylketones (retro-Favorsky reaction). This finding allows a robust synthesis of ethynylpyrroles in up to 95% yields to be developed. Since acylethynylpyrroles became available, the strategy thus found makes ethynylpyrroles more accessible than earlier. The quantum-chemical calculations (B2PLYP/6-311G**//B3LYP/6-311G**+C-PCM/acetonitrile) confirm the thermodynamic preference of the decomposition of the intermediate acetylenic alcohols to free ethynylpyrroles rather than their potassium derivatives.

Abstract
Donor-acceptor (D-A) conjugated polymers are promising materials in optoelectronic applications, especially those forming ordered thin films. The processability of such conjugated macromolecules is typically enhanced by introducing bulky side chains, but it may affect their ordering and/or photophysical properties of the films. We show here the synthesis of surface-grafted D-A polymer brushes using alternating attachment of tailored monomers serving as electron donors (D) and acceptors (A) via coupling reactions. In such a stepwise procedure, alternating copolymer brushes consisting of thiophene and benzothiadiazole-based moieties with precisely tailored thickness and no bulky substituents were formed. The utilization of Sonogashira coupling was shown to produce densely packed molecular wires of tailored thickness, while Stille coupling and Huisgen cycloaddition were less efficient, likely because of the higher flexibility of D-A bridging groups. The D-A brushes exhibit reduced bandgaps, semiconducting properties and can form aggregates, which can be adjusted by changing the grafting density of the chains.

Abstract
Palladium catalyzed Suzuki-Miyaura, Stille, and Sonogashira coupling reactions are reported for the electron-deficient heterocyclic scaffold 3,5-dichloro-4H-1,2,6-thiadiazin-4-one (1). Furthermore, 3,5-di(thien-2-yl)-4H-1,2,6-thiadiazin-4-one (7m) is further elaborated to afford the tetrathienyl 3,5-bis[(2,2'-bithien)-5-yl]-4H-1,2,6-thiadiazin-4-one (9). All compounds are fully characterized.

Abstract
Color tuning and switching of the solid-state luminescence of organic materials are attractive subjects for both the fundamental research and practical applications such as optical recording. We report herein cyanostilbene-based highly luminescent molecular sheets which exhibit two-color fluorescence switching in response to pressure, temperature, and solvent vapor. The origin for the multistimuli luminescence switching is the two-directional shear-sliding capability of molecular sheets, which are formed via intermolecular multiple C-H···N and C-H···O hydrogen bonds. The resulting two distinctive crystal phases are promoted by different modes of local dipole coupling, which cause a substantial alternation of π-π overlap. These changes can be directly correlated with the subsequent intermolecular excitonic and excimeric coupling in both phases, as demonstrated by an in-depth theory-assisted spectroscopic and structural study. Finally, we have prepared a first device demonstrator for rewritable fluorescent optical recording media which showed multistimuli luminescence tuning with fast response. Our multistimuli responsive system is unique in terms of the slip-stacking of molecular sheets and thus provides a novel concept of rewritable fluorescent optical recording media.
