A novel titanium tetrahalide-mediated carbon-carbon bond-forming reaction: regioselective synthesis of substituted (E,Z)-1,5-dihalo-1,4-dienes

TMSOTf-mediated synthesis of skipped dienes through the addition of olefins to imines and semicyclic N,O-acetals

A novel approach to skipped dienes has been developed through the TMSOTf-mediated one-pot addition-substitution of olefins 2a, 2f and 2g with imines 1a-1g, and a series of aryl substituted skipped dienes 3aa-3gf were accordingly obtained in 62%-94% yields. Moreover, semicyclic N,O-acetals 5 and 7 could also undergo this transformation to produce the corresponding skipped dienes 6aa and 6af-6al and 8ba and 8bf-8bk in moderate to good yields.

Stereoselective Synthesis of Trisubstituted Vinyl Bromides by Addition of Alkynes to Oxocarbenium Ions

We have developed an efficient method for the synthesis of (E)-trisubstituted vinyl bromides via a Friedel-Crafts-type addition of alkynes to oxocarbenium ions formed in situ from acetals. The success of this reaction relies on identification of MgBr2·OEt2 as both a Lewis acid promoter and bromide source. This reaction employs simple, inexpensive starting materials and proceeds under mild conditions to allow the preparation of a range of vinyl bromide products in high yields and E:Z selectivities. Furthermore, the vinyl bromide products also contain an allylic ether functional group. Both the vinyl bromide and allylic ether are effective handles for the elaboration of these useful synthetic intermediates.

Iron-catalyzed ligand-free three-component coupling reactions of aldehydes, terminal alkynes, and amines

A tri-umph in many respects: The iron-catalyzed ligand-free, one-pot three-component coupling reactions of aldehydes, terminal alkynes, and amines in the presence of 4 A molecular sieves yields the corresponding propargylamines in good to excellent yields, displays a broad substrate scope, and is economical and environmentally friendly (see scheme).

Practical Highly Enantioselective Synthesis of Propargylamines through a Copper-Catalyzed One-Pot Three-Component Condensation Reaction

The one-pot three-component reaction of terminal alkynes, aldehydes and secondary amines in the presence of copper(I) bromide/quinap is reported. The reaction scope has been determined and a broad variety of all three components has been used, which afforded the corresponding propargylamines in good to excellent yields and moderate to very good enantioselectivities. The reaction showed a strong positive nonlinear effect. The transformation of a propargylamine intermediate into the alkaloid (S)-(+)-coniine has also been described.

Pd-Catalyzed Cross-Coupling of Baylis−Hillman Acetate Adducts with Bis(pinacolato)diboron: An Efficient Route to Functionalized Allyl Borates

The cross-coupling of Baylis-Hillman acetate adducts and bis(pinacolato)diboron proceeds readily in high yields in the presence of palladium catalyst to produce 3-substituted-2-alkoxycarbonyl allylboronates. These allylboronates can be transformed to stable allyl trifluoroborate salts by addition of excess aqueous KHF2. Both the allylboronate and allyltrifluoroborate derivatives react with aldehydes to afford functionalized homoallylic alcohols stereoselectively.

A New Titanium Tetrachloride Mediated Annulation of α-Aryl-Substituted Carbonyl Compounds with Alkynes: A Simple and Highly Efficient Method for the Regioselective Synthesis of Polysubstituted Naphthalene Derivatives

A new straightforward procedure has been developed for the synthesis of polysubstituted naphthalene derivatives. The reaction of alpha-aryl-substituted carbonyl compounds with terminal or internal alkynes in the presence of TiCl4 regioselectively generates substituted naphthalene derivatives in good to excellent yields.
