Abstract
This review reports recent accesses to the dibenzofuran nucleus described in the literature since 2008. This article starts with synthesizing dibenzofurans by creating the C-O bond of the furan ring. In the following section, we evoke the formation of dibenzofurans by cyclizing diarylether derivatives. The last part of this update concerns the construction of dibenzofurans from benzofuran or phenol derivatives. Representative examples showing the scope of these processes illustrate new approaches and biological activities of dibenzofurans. Reaction mechanisms explaining certain dibenzofuran formation are described, as suggested by their authors.

Abstract
Benzoxanthenes and their analogues are a very important class of compounds mainly due to their wide range of biological and technological applications. The development of a new methodology for their synthesis, involving an Ullmann-type coupling followed by an intramolecular C-H arylation, catalyzed by copper in a domino fashion, is reported. A variety of para-substituted phenols are amenable to this methodology, affording the desired products in moderate to good yields. Our protocol is expedient and practical and is carried out under microwave irradiation in only 3 min under air. A plausible catalytic cycle is proposed based on experimental mechanistic investigations and density functional theory (DFT) calculations.

Abstract
An efficient methodology for the synthesis of benzofuropyridines and dibenzofurans from fluoropyridines or fluoroarenes and 2-bromophenyl acetates is reported. This streamlined one-pot procedure consists of a four-step directed ortho-lithiation, zincation, Negishi cross-coupling, and intramolecular nucleophilic aromatic substitution, allowing for the facile assembly of a diverse set of fused benzofuro heterocycles.

Abstract
Existing synthetic routes for accessing dibenzofuran core have intrinsic regioselectivity, limiting the substitution patterns available in heteropolycyclic arene products. Here we report a double 1,4-conjugate addition/intramolecular annulation cascade reaction between propargylamines and two equivalents of imidazolium methylides that allows efficient access of structurally versatile dibenzofurans. This transition metal-free protocol proceeds smoothly under bench-top air atmosphere and offers easy manipulation of substituents on the dibenzofuran core, and also provides good-to-excellent product yields with good functional group tolerance, particularly the -Br and -Cl groups which are often incompatible with existing metal-catalyzed C-C and/or C-O bond ring-forming processes. It is worth noting that ladder-type π-systems with all-arene quarternary carbon structure can be straightforwardly generated upon simple late-stage functionalization.

Abstract
A novel catalyst-free approach to benzoannulated oxygen-containing heterocycles from fluorinated oligophenylenes is reported. Unlike existing methods, the presented reaction does not require an oxygen-containing precursor and relies on an external oxygen source, potassium tert-butoxide, which serves as an O2- synthon. The radical nature of the reaction facilitates nucleophilic substitution even in the presence of strong electron-donating groups and enables de-tert-butylation required for the complete annulation. Also demonstrated is the applicability of the method to introduce five-, six-, and seven-membered rings containing oxygen, whereas multiple annulations also open up a short synthetic path to ladder-type O-heteroacenes and oligodibenzofurans.

Abstract
Although palladium-catalyzed cross-coupling of aryl halides and reactive pseudohalides has revolutionized the way organic molecules are constructed today across various fields of chemistry, comparatively less progress has been made in the palladium-catalyzed cross-coupling of less reactive C-O electrophiles. This is despite the fact that the use of phenols and phenol derivatives as bench-stable cross-coupling partners has been well-recognized to bring about major advantages over aryl halides, such as (1) natural abundance of phenols, (2) avoidance of toxic halides, (3) orthogonal cross-coupling conditions, (4) prefunctionalization of phenolic substrates by electrophilic substitution or C-H functionalization, (5) ready availability of phenols from a different pool of precursors than aryl halides. In this review, we present an overview of recent advances made in the field of palladium-catalyzed cross-coupling of C-O electrophiles with a focus on (1) catalytic systems, (2) reaction type, and (3) class of C-O coupling partners. Although the field has been historically dominated by nickel catalysis, it is now evident that the use of more versatile, more functional group tolerant and highly active palladium catalysts supported by appropriately designed ancillary ligands enables the cross-coupling with improved substrate scope and generality, and likely represents a practical solution to the broadly applicable cross-coupling of various C-O bonds across diverse chemical disciplines. The review covers the period through June 2020.

Abstract
A facile synthesis of benzo[3,4]indolo[1,2-b]isoquinolin-8-ones is described. Under copper catalysis, the reaction proceeds with a high efficiency and a broad reaction scope. A deuteration experiment shows that the KIE value is 2.85. From the results on mechanism studies, copper-catalyzed C-H activation, intramolecular cis-addition of alkynes, and reductive elimination are involved. Moreover, this skeleton is indeed a new fluorophore, and its photophysical properties are also investigated.

Abstract
The fluoride-ion-catalyzed synthesis of benzobisbenzofuran derivatives is described. Fluorine-containing aryl silyl ethers were reacted with 5 mol % of Bu4NF to give desired compounds in high yield under mild conditions. Syn-selective cyclization reaction was discovered for a particular compound as a kinetic product. Computational analysis revealed that the fluorine substituents in the anti-type benzobisbenzofurans affect the order of the molecular orbitals.

Abstract
A simple protocol for the clean preparation of heterocyclic compounds containing dibenzofuran's core via oxodefluorination of fluoroarenes on activated γ-Al2O3 is reported. Alumina can be considered as a reliable oxygen source enabling one-pot substitution of fluorine atoms and yielding benzoannulated furan derivatives. The corresponding C–F bond activation is selective towards less stable C–Br/C–I and occurs under metal- and solvent-free conditions. Abstract
An efficient synthesis of a variety of dibenzofuran derivatives via Cu-catalyzed cyclization diaryliodonium salts in water is achieved. Various dibenzofuran derivatives could be obtained in good to excellent yields via this oxygen-iodine exchange approach. A concise synthesis of organic semiconducting material molecule has been achieved using this method.

Abstract
This manuscript describes the Ni-catalyzed coupling of azoles with aromatic nitriles. The use of BPh3 promotes these arylations with electronically diverse azoles and benzonitriles. While the nickel catalyst is necessary for the arylations of phenyl oxazoles, arylation of benzoxazoles with some nitriles affords the arylated products even in the absence of the Ni catalyst albeit in lower yield than the catalyzed process. The Ni-catalyzed process exhibits higher rates and a broader scope than the uncatalyzed transformation.

Abstract
Pd-catalyzed arylation or benzylation of nitroazoles using aryl sulfonates or benzyl acetates is described. Electronically varied aryl tosylates and mesylates, as well as benzyl acetates, afford the arylated and benzylated products. Arylation of nitrobenzene is also reported. The relative rate for the arylation of halides is greater than that of tosylates using the reported reaction parameters. These studies enhance the scope of electrophiles for nitroarene arylations and benzylations, which was hitherto limited to the use of halide electrophiles.

Abstract
The example of palladium-catalyzed intermolecular cyclization for the synthesis of various diarylfurans in which one of the aromatic rings originates from the phenolic part of the starting ester and the other one from PhI(OAc)2 has been reported. The reaction is carried out through two steps: the rearrangement of palladium-associated iodonium ylides to form o-iodo diaryl ether and then palladium catalyzed intramolecular direct arylation. This reaction can tolerate a variety of functional groups and is alternative or complementary to the previous methods for the synthesis of diarylfurans.

Abstract
Amide-bridged ladder poly(p-phenylene) was synthesized in two steps, through the polycondensation of aromatic diamines and dicarboxylic acid derivatives followed by palladium-catalyzed intramolecular direct arylation.

Abstract
This paper describes the development of Pd-catalyzed inter- and intramolecular direct arylation using mesylates. Furthermore, a sequential mesylation/arylation protocol using phenols as substrates is described. These transformations are general with respect to the electronics of the C-H substrates and allow for the synthesis of diverse heterocyclic motifs in good yields. Both arenes and heteroarenes efficiently participate in these reactions. Preliminary mechanistic studies are presented for both inter- and intramolecular arylations.
