Abstract
Triazoles are an important class of compounds with widespread applications. Functionalization of the triazole backbone is thus of significant interest. In comparison to 1,2,3-triazoles, C-H activation-functionalization of the congeners 1,2,4-triazoles is surprisingly underdeveloped. Indeed, no such C-H activation-functionalization has been reported for 4-substituted 1,2,4-triazole cores. Furthermore, although denitrogenative ring-opening of 1,2,3-triazoles is well-explored, 1,2,4-triazole/triazolium substrates have not been known to exhibit N-N bond-cleaving ring-opening reactivity so far. In this work, we unveiled an unusual hidden reactivity of the 1,2,4-triazole backbone involving the elusive N-N bond-cleaving ring-opening reaction. This new reactivity was induced by a Satoh-Miura-type C-H activation-annulation at the 1,2,4-triazole motif appended with a pyridine directing group. This unique reaction allowed ready access to a novel class of unsymmetrically substituted 2,2'-dipyridylamines, with one pyridine ring fully-substituted with alkyl groups. The unsymmetrical 2,2'-dipyridylamines were utilized to access unsymmetrical boron-aza-dipyridylmethene fluorescent dyes. Empowered with desirable optical/physical properties such as large Stokes shifts and suitable hydrophobicity arising from optimal alkyl chain length at the fully-substituted pyridine-ring, these dyes were used for intracellular lipid droplet-selective imaging studies, which provided useful information toward designing suitable lipid droplet-selective imaging probes for biomedical applications.

Abstract
Abstract:
Abstract: This unprecedented review with 322 references provides a critical up-to-date picture of the Pd-catalysed intermolecular direct C–H bond arylation of heteroarenes with arylating reagents alternative to aryl halides that include aryl sulfonates (aryl triflates, tosylates, mesylates, and imidazole-1-sulfonates), diaryliodonium salts, [(diacetoxy)iodo]arenes, arenediazonium salts, 1-aryltriazenes, arylhydrazines and N’-arylhydrazides, arenesulfonyl chlorides, sodium arenesulfinates, arenesulfinic acids, and arenesulfonohydrazides. Particular attention has been paid to summarise the preparation of the various arylating reagents and to highlight the practicality, versatility, and limitations of the various developed arylation protocols, also comparing their results with those achieved in analogous Pd-catalysed arylation reactions involving the use of aryl halides as electrophiles. Mechanistic proposals have also been briefly summarised and discussed. However, data concerning Pd-catalysed direct C–H bond arylations involving the C–H bonds of aryl substituents of the examined heteroarene derivatives have not been taken into account.

Abstract
Pyridinium-containing polyheterocycles exhibit distinctive biological properties and interesting electrochemical and optical properties and thus are widely used as drugs, functional materials, and photocatalysts. Here, we describe a unified two-step strategy by merging Rh-catalyzed C-H vinylation with two switchable electrocyclizations, including aza-6π-electrocyclization and all-carbon-6π-electrocyclization, for rapid and divergent access to dihydropyridoisoquinoliniums and dihydrobenzoquinolines. Through computation, the high selectivity of aza-electrocyclization in the presence of an appropriate "HCl" source under either thermal conditions or photochemical conditions is shown to result from the favorable kinetics and symmetries of frontier orbitals. We further demonstrated the value of this protocol by the synthesis of several complex pyridinium-containing polyheterocycles, including the two alkaloids berberine and chelerythrine.

Abstract
The Pd-mediated cross-coupling of (hetero)arenes with alkenes may be an effective method for the formation of a C–C bond from two C–H bonds. Discovered by Fujiwara and co-workers in 1967, this reaction led to a number of reports that we firstly highlighted in 2011 (review with references till June 2010) and for which, we retained the name “dehydrogenative Heck reaction”. The topic, especially the reactions of five-membered heteroarenes, has been the subject of intensive research over the last ten years. The present review is limited to these dehydrogenative Heck reactions published since 2010, underlining the progress of the procedures.

One-pot synthesis of a new 2-substituted 1,2,3-triazole 1-oxide derivative from dipyridyl ketone and isonitrosoacetophenone hydrazone: Nickel(II) complex, DNA binding and cleavage properties. Abstract
An efficient and simple one-pot synthesis of a new 1,2,3-triazole-1-oxide via reaction between isonitrosoacetophenone hydrazone and dipyridyl ketone in the EtOH/AcOH at room temperature has been developed smoothly in high yield. The reaction proceeds via metal salt free, in-situ formation of asymmetric azine followed by cyclization to provide 1,2,3-triazole 1-oxide compound. It has been structurally characterized. The 1:1 ratio reaction of the 1,2,3-triazole 1-oxide ligand with nickel(II) chloride gives the mononuclear complex [Ni(L)(DMF)Cl2], hexa-coordinated within an octahedral geometry. Characterization of the 1,2,3-triazole compound and its Ni(II) complex with FTIR, 1H and 13C NMR, UV-vis and elemental analysis also confirms the proposed structures of the compounds. The interactions of the compounds with Calf thymus DNA (CT-DNA) have been investigated by UV-visible spectra and viscosity measurements. The results suggested that both ligand and Ni(II) complex bind to DNA in electrostatic interaction and/or groove binding, also with a slight partial intercalation in the case of ligand. DNA cleavage experiments have been also investigated by agarose gel electrophoresis in the presence and absence of an oxidative agent (H2O2). Both 1,2,3-triazole 1-oxide ligand and its nickel(II) complex show nuclease activity in the presence of hydrogen peroxide. DNA binding and cleavage affinities of the 1,2,3-triazole 1-oxide ligand is stronger than that of the Ni(II) complex.

Abstract
An efficient Pd-catalyzed cross-dehydrogenative coupling of heteroarenes with styrenes and other olefinic substrates has been developed. This alkenylation paradigm encompasses a wide range of substrates and provides a straightforward approach toward C2-E-alkenylated azole motifs.

Abstract
The catalytic method features a cooperative interaction between Ni and Al imparting remote C-H alkenylation at the C5 position of imidazo[1,5-a]pyridine with alkynes at mild conditions. Exclusion of AlMe3 switches the selectivity to the C3 position. Reactions with styrene and other olefinic substrates affording C5-adducts by Ni/Al catalysis are also included.
