Abstract
Transition metal π-allyl complexes are key reagents/intermediates of various catalytic and stoichiometric allylation reactions. We now report the first transition metal complex of a heavier allylic π-system. The η3-Si2Ge allyl nickel complex is formally obtained by the oxidative addition of the Si-Cl bond of the heavier vinylidene [R2(Cl)Si-(R)Si═(NHC)Ge:] to [Ni(COD)2] (R = 2,4,6-triisopropylphenyl; NHC = 1,3-diisopropyl-4,5-dimethylimidazol-2-ylidene; COD = 1,5-cyclooctadiene). Due to geometric constraints, the coordination to the Ni(II) center occurs through the formal Si═Ge double bond instead of the residual lone pair of electrons at germanium. In contrast, the Si-N bond of the analogous vinylidene [R2(Me2N)Si-(R)Si═(NHC)Ge:] (obtained by nucleophilic substitution of Cl by NMe2) does not oxidatively add to Ni(0), and a hydridosilagermene-η2-nickel complex is obtained instead. The formation of this complex necessarily implies the isomerization of the heavier vinylidene to the corresponding heteroalkyne with the Si≡Ge triple bond in the coordination sphere of nickel followed by the activation of a C-H bond of one of the isopropyl groups of an N-heterocyclic carbene (NHC) ligand.

Abstract
Through DFT calculations, the equilibrium between Rh–alkyne and Rh–vinylidene species of PXNXP pincer ligated Rh cationic complexes is shown to be tuned by the P–Rh–P bite angle, which in turn is dictated by the nature of the X moiety of the pincer ligand.

Abstract
Two types of unexpected quinolizinium complexes were obtained from the reactions between pyridine-functionalized propargylic alcohol HC[triple bond, length as m-dash]CC(OH)(Ph)(CH2(2-py)) (L1) and cis-[M(L^L)2Cl2] (M = Ru, Os; L^L = 1,1-bis(diphenylphosphino)methane (dppm), 2,2'-bipyridine (bpy)). Their molecular structures revealed that L1 can be activated by Ru and Os via the conventional "vinylidene-involving" or unconventional "non-vinylidene-involving" pathways.

Abstract
The 1,4-diethynylbenzene motif is commonly employed as a bridging ligand in bimetallic molecular systems intended to show pronounced intramolecular electronic interactions, delocalized electronic structures and 'wire-like' properties between the metal fragments at the ligand termini. In contrast to these expectations, the donor-acceptor compounds [{Cp'(CO)xM'}(μ-C[triple bond, length as m-dash]CC6H4C[triple bond, length as m-dash]C){M(PP)Cp'}]n+ [n = 0, 1; M'(CO)xCp' = Fe(CO)2Cp, W(CO)3Cp*; M(PP)Cp' = Fe(dppe)Cp, Fe(dppe)Cp*, Ru(PPh3)2Cp, Ru(dppe)Cp, Ru(dppe)Cp*] display remarkably little bridge-mediated electronic interaction between the electron-rich {M(PP)Cp'} and electron-poor {M'(CO)xCp'} fragments in the ground state. However, a relatively high-energy (26 000-30 000 cm-1) M-to-M' charge transfer can be identified. One-electron oxidation is largely localized on the {M(C[triple bond, length as m-dash]CR)(PP)Cp'} fragment and gives rise to a new charge transfer band with bridging-ligand-to-{M(PP)Cp'}+ (M'(CO)xCp' = Fe(CO)2Cp) or M'-to-M(+) (M(CO)xCp' = W(CO)3Cp*) character. The localized electronic ground state of these complexes is better revealed through analysis of the IR spectra, taking advantage of the well-resolved ν(C[triple bond, length as m-dash]C) and ν(CO) bands and IR spectroelectrochemical methods, than through the more classical analysis based on the concepts of Marcus-Hush theory and analysis of the putative IVCT electronic transition. The conclusions are supported by DFT calculations using the BLYP35 functional.

Abstract
A ruthenium-catalyzed cycloisomerization of 3-amino-4-alkynyl-2H-chromen-2-ones via 1,2-carbon migration was developed. Various 1-arylchromeno[3,4-b]pyrrol-4(3H)-ones were synthesized in good to excellent yields. The reaction was applied to the formal total synthesis of marine natural products Ningalin B and Lamellarin H. The efficient synthesis of γ-butyrolactone-fused pyrrole derivatives was also achieved.

Abstract
The first C3-metalated indolizine complex was prepared from the reaction between cis-[Os(dppm)2Cl2] (dppm = 1,1-bis(diphenylphosphino)methane) and propargylic pyridine, HC[triple bond, length as m-dash]CC(OH)(2-py)2. A phosphonium ring-fused bicyclic osmafuran complex was also prepared from the reaction between cis-[Os(dppm)2Cl2] and pyridyl ynone, HC[triple bond, length as m-dash]C(C[double bond, length as m-dash]O)(2-py). The formation of these two products revealed the intermediacy of metal-vinylidene species regarding [Os(dppm)2Cl]+-mediated alkyne transformations. Comparison of the d6 transition-metal precursors employed to activate HC[triple bond, length as m-dash]CC(OH)(2-py)2 suggests that precursors with higher π-basicity favor the vinylidene-involving pathway.

Abstract
The substitution reactions of [Rh(COD)2][BArF4] with PNP and PONOP pincer ligands 2,6-bis(di-tert-butylphosphinomethyl)pyridine and 2,6-bis(di-tert-butylphosphinito)pyridine in the weakly coordinating solvent 1,2-F2C6H4 are shown to be an operationally simple method for the generation of reactive formally 14 VE rhodium(i) adducts in solution. Application of this methodology enables synthesis of known adducts of CO, N2, H2, previously unknown water complexes, and novel vinylidene derivatives [Rh(pincer)(CCHR)][BArF4] (R = tBu, 3,5-tBu2C6H3), through reversible reactions with terminal alkynes.

Abstract
With their mechanistic novelty and various modalities of reactivity, transition metal unsaturated carbene (alkenylidene) complexes have emerged as versatile intermediates for new reaction discovery. In particular, the past decade has witnessed remarkable advances in the chemistry of metal vinylidenes and allenylidenes, leading to the evolution of a diverse array of new catalytic transformations that are mechanistically distinct from those developed in the previous two decades. This review aims to provide a survey of the recent achievements in the development of organic reactions that make use of transition metal alkenylidenes as catalytic intermediates and their applications to organic synthesis.

Abstract
A remarkable intermolecular dehydrative coupling reaction with the formation of a C-C bond was found for the vinylidene complex 2 a, yielding the dinuclear bisvinylidene complex 4 a. Complex 2 a containing 1-hydroxyindan moiety was first formed from the reaction of o-propynyl benzaldehyde 1 a with [Ru]-Cl ([Ru]=Cp(PPh3 )2 Ru) by a cyclization process. For analogous aldehyde 1 b containing an additional 1,3-dioxolane group on the aryl ring, similar intermolecular coupling yields the dinuclear bisvinylidene complex 4 b. However, the fluoro group on the aryl ring in aldehyde 1 c inhibits the coupling reaction, giving only the vinylidene complex 2 c. For the reactions of [Ru]-Cl in MeOH with compounds 1 f, 1 g and 1 h, each with a ketone functionality, cyclization gives vinylidene complexes 2 f, 2 g and 2 h, respectively. However, no similar intermolecular coupling was observed, instead, the intramolecular dehydration yields 8 f, 8 g and 8 h, respectively. In CDCl3 , catalytic cyclization is observed for the o-propynylphenyl ketone 1 h with [Ru]-Cl at 50 °C giving the isochromene products 14 h. Furthermore, treatment of the o-propynylaryl α,β-unsaturated ketones 1 k-m and 1 n with [Ru]-Cl in MeOH affords the corresponding vinylidene complexes 10 k-m and 11 n each with 1-benzosuberone moiety in the presence of NH4 PF6 . These intramolecular cyclization products were formed by the addition of Cβ onto the terminal carbon of the alkene moiety. All these reaction products were characterized by spectroscopic methods. In addition, structures of complexes 4 a, and 10 l were confirmed by single crystal X-ray diffraction analysis.

Abstract
Reactions of 2-benzoylpyridine or 2-benzylpyridine with [Cp*MCl2]2 (M = Ir, Rh) have been carried out in the presence of NaOAc in refluxing methanol, which form the corresponding six-membered cyclometalated products (1–3) except for the reaction of 2-benzylpyridine with [Cp*RhCl2]2. Insertion reactions of two six-membered cyclometalated pyridine iridium complexes (1 and 2) with terminal or internal aromatic alkynes were studied. Terminal alkynes p-XC6H4C

CH (X = H, MeO, and F) with 1 give the corresponding five- and seven-membered doubly cycloiridated complexes 4a–c, internal alkynes p-XC6H4CCC6H4X-p (X = H, MeO, and Br) form the similar five- and seven-membered doubly cycloiridated complexes (5a,b) and/or di-insertion products (6a,c), whereas the acyl alkyne PhCCCOPh affords the novel spiro-metalated complex 7. For complex 2, internal alkynes p-XC6H4CCC6H4X-p (X = H, MeO, and Br) form similar five- and seven-membered doubly cycloiridated complexes (8a–c). However, in the case of PhCCCOPh, the reaction gives the novel four-membered cyclometalated complex 9. These results suggest that the products formed by alkyne insertion reactions of the six-membered cycloiridated pyridine complexes are very diverse. Plausible pathways for the formation of these novel insertion products were proposed. Molecular structures of seven cyclometalated complexes were determined by X-ray diffraction. Insertion reactions of aromatic alkynes into the Ir–C bond of six-membered cycloiridated complexes formed various novel products via different insertion modes.![]()

Abstract
Two ruthenium acetylide complexes [Ru]-C≡C-C≡C-C(OR)(C3 H5 )2 (2, R=H and 2 a, R=CH3 ; [Ru]=Cp(PPh3 )2 Ru) each with two cyclopropyl rings were synthesized from TMS-C≡C-C≡C-C(OH)(C3 H5 )2 (1; TMS=trimethylsilyl). Treatments of 2 and 2 a with allyl halide in the presence of KPF6 afforded the vinylidene complexes 3 and 3 a, respectively. When NH4 PF6 was used, instead of KPF6 , additional ring-opening reaction took place on one of the three-membered ring. Treatment of [Ru]Cl with 1,3-butadiyne (6), bearing an epoxide ring, afforded acetylide complex 7 with a furyl ring. Treatment of 2 a with Ph3 CPF6 presumably afforded pentatetraenylidene complex {[Ru]=C=C=C=C=C(C3 H5 )2 }[PF6 ] (10), which was not isolated. Additions of various alcohols in a solution of 10 generated a number of disubstituted allenylidene complexes {[Ru]=C=C=C(OR)-C=C(C3 H5 )2 }[PF6 ] (11). Treatment of 11 with K2 CO3 afforded the acetylide complex 12 bearing a carbonyl group, characterized by single X-ray diffraction analysis. Addition of a primary amine to 10 caused cleavage of the farthermost C=C bond and several allenylidene complexes {[Ru]=C=C=C(Me)(NHR)}[PF6 ] (18) were isolated.

Abstract
Competition between vinylidene rearrangement/1,1-insertion and 1,2-alkyne insertion into the Ir–Ar bond of [Cp*Ir(ppy-F4)]+ was observed on reaction with diarylacetylenes. The former process afforded the 9-membered iridacycle via the subsequent 1,4-Ir migration.
