Abstract
The synthesis and characterisation of a new anionic flexible scorpionate ligand, methyl(bis-7-azaindolyl)borohydride [MeBai]- is reported herein. The ligand was coordinated to a series of group nine transition metal centres forming the complexes, [Ir(MeBai)(COD)] (1), [Rh(MeBai)(COD)] (2), [Rh(MeBai)(CODMe)] (2-Me) and [Rh(MeBai)(NBD)] (3), where COD = 1,5-cyclooctadiene, CODMe = 3-methyl-1,5-cyclooctadiene and NBD = 2,5-norbornadiene. In all cases, the boron based ligand was found to bind to the metal centres via a κ3-N,N,H coordination mode. The ligand and complexes were fully characterised by spectroscopic and analytical methods. The structures of the ligand and three of the complexes were confirmed by X-ray crystallography. The potential for migration of the "hydride" or "methyl" units from boron to the metal centre was also explored. During these studies an unusual transformation, involving the oxidation of the rhodium centre, was observed in complex 2. In this case, the η4-COD unit transformed into a η1,η3-C8H12 unit where the ring was bound via one sigma bond and one allyl unit. This is the first time such a transformation has been observed at a rhodium centre.

Abstract
In a quest for efficient precursors for the synthesis of boratrane complexes of late transition metals, we have developed a useful synthetic method using [L'M(μ-Cl)Clx ]2 as precursors (L'=η6 -p-cymene, M=Ru, x=1; L'=COD, M=Rh, x=0 and L'=Cp*, M=Ir or Rh, x=1; COD=1,5-cyclooctadiene, Cp*=η5 -C5 Me5 ). For example, treatment of Na[(H3 B)bbza] or Na[(H2 B)mp2 ] (bbza=bis(benzothiazol-2-yl)amine; mp=2-mercaptopyridyl) with [L'M(μ-Cl)Clx ]2 yielded [(η6 -p-cymene)RuBH{(NCSC6 H4 )(NR)}2 ] (2; R=NCSC6 H4 ), [{N(NCSC6 H4 )2 }RhBH{(NCSC6 H4 )(NR)}2 ] (3; R=NCS-C6 H4 ), [(η6 -p-cymene)RuBH(L)2 ] (5; L=C5 H4 NS), and [Cp*MBH(L)2 ] (6 and 7; L=C5 H4 NS, M=Ir or Rh). In order to delineate the significance of the ligands, we studied the reactivity of [(COD)Rh(μ-Cl)]2 with Na[(H3 B)bbza], which led to the formation of the isomeric agostic complexes [(η4 -COD)Rh(μ-H)BHRh(C14 H8 N3 S2 )3 ], 4 a and 4 b, in parallel to the formation of 16-electron square-pyramidal rhodaboratrane complex 3. Compounds 4 a and 4 b show two different geometries, in which the Rh-B bonds are shorter than in the reported Rh agostic complexes. The new compounds have been characterized in solution by various spectroscopic analyses, and their structural arrangements have been unequivocally established by crystallographic analyses. DFT calculations provide useful insights regarding the stability of these metallaboratrane complexes as well as their M→B bonding interactions.

Abstract
A bis(phosphine)borane ambiphilic ligand, [Fe(η(5) -C5 H4 PPh2 )(η(5) -C5 H4 PtBu{C6 H4 (BPh2 )-ortho})] (FcPPB), in which the borane occupies a terminal position, was prepared. Reaction of FcPPB with tris(norbornene)platinum(0) provided [Pt(FcPPB)] (1) in which the arylborane is η(3) BCC-coordinated. Subsequent reaction with CO and CNXyl (Xyl=2,6-dimethylphenyl) afforded [PtL(FcPPB)] {L=CO (2) and CNXyl (3)} featuring η(2) BC- and η(1) B-arylborane coordination modes, respectively. Reaction of 1 or 2 with H2 yielded [PtH(μ-H)(FcPPB)] in which the borane is bound to a hydride ligand on platinum. Addition of PhC2 H to [Pt(FcPPB)] afforded [Pt(C2 Ph)(μ-H)(FcPPB)] (5), which rapidly converted to [Pt(FcPPB')] (6; FcPPB'=[Fe(η(5) -C5 H4 PPh2 )(η(5) -C5 H4 PtBu{C6 H4 (BPh-CPh=CHPh-Z)-ortho}]) in which the newly formed vinylborane is η(3) BCC-coordinated. Unlike arylborane complex 1, vinylborane complex 6 does not react with CO, CNXyl, H2 or HC2 Ph at room temperature.

Abstract
Reversible, heterolytic addition of H2 across an iron-boron bond in a ferraboratrane with formal hydride transfer to the boron gives iron-borohydrido-hydride complexes. These compounds catalyze the hydrogenation of alkenes and alkynes to the respective alkanes. Notably, the boron is capable of acting as a shuttle for hydride transfer to substrates. The results are interesting in the context of heterolytic substrate addition across metal-boron bonds in metallaboratranes and related systems, as well as metal-ligand bifunctional catalysis.

Abstract
Cyclic boron-containing π-ligands such as boratabenzenes and borollides are well established, in particular as supporting ligands. By contrast, the chemistry of acyclic boron-containing π-ligands has remained relatively unexplored, presumably in part due to the higher reactivity of acyclic π-ligands relative to cyclic analogues. This perspective is focused on the synthesis, structures and reactivity of isolated transition metal complexes bearing η(n)-coordinated (n = 2 or 3) acyclic boron-containing ligands. Both monometallic and multimetallic compounds are included, and are discussed with an emphasis on metal-ligand and intraligand bonding and parallels with hydrocarbon π-ligand complexes.

Abstract
The monophosphino-boranes o-iPr(2)P(C(6)H(4))BR(2) (1: R = Ph and 3: R = Cy) and diphosphino-boranes [o-R(2)P(C(6)H(4))](2)BPh (5: R = Ph and 6: R = iPr) readily react with CuCl to afford the corresponding complexes {[o-iPr(2)P(C(6)H(4))BPh(2)]Cu(mu-Cl)}(2) 2, {[o-iPr(2)P(C(6)H(4))BCy(2)]Cu(mu-Cl)}(2) 4, {[o-Ph(2)P(C(6)H(4))](2)BPh}CuCl 7, and {[o-iPr(2)P(C(6)H(4))](2)BPh}CuCl 8. The presence of Cu-->B interactions supported by arene coordination within complexes 2, 7, and 8 has been unambiguously evidenced by NMR spectroscopy and X-ray diffraction studies. The unique eta(2)-BC coordination mode adopted by complexes 7 and 8 has been thoroughly analyzed by density-functional theory (DFT) calculations.
