Abstract
It is internationally recognized to use clinical decision limits (CDL) when interpreting the lipid levels in both adults and children, even though the evidence for children is scarce. The purpose of this study is to describe how lipid levels progress in healthy Danish children ages 5 to 17 years. This study is based on the Childhood Health, Activity, and Motor Performance School Study Denmark (CHAMPS-study DK) consisting of 1456 observations of schoolchildren aged 5 to 17 years. Participants have been tested for blood levels of total cholesterol, low-density lipoprotein (LDL), high-density lipoprotein (HDL), triglycerides, and remnant cholesterol levels are calculated. Finally, sex-specific percentile reference curves are presented. Percentile reference curves stratified by sex were generated for all cholesterols and showed that the total cholesterol level peaks at 4.32 mmol/l in 10-year-old boys and 4.46 mmol/l in nine-year-old girls. HDL levels in boys peak at 1.72 mmol/l in nine-year-old boys. HDL levels in girls and LDL levels in both sexes are nearly constant. Triglycerides kept rising to the age of 17 years in both sexes and remnant cholesterol decreased from age 5 to 17 years in both sexes. BMI z-score adjustment revealed no significant association with total cholesterol in both sexes but a significant association between HDL, LDL, triglycerides, and remnant cholesterol. This study is the first to generate percentile reference curves for blood levels of total cholesterol, LDL, HDL, triglycerides, and remnant cholesterol in a cohort of healthy Danish children aged 5 to 17 years.

Abstract
Physical activity (PA) has the potential to bring about favourable changes in plasma lipid profile. However, the relationship between PA and remnant cholesterol (RC) remains unclear. We aimed to study the link between PA and RC using the database of the 2007-2020 National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey (NHANES). PA was categorized based on Physical Activity Guidelines for Americans. A multivariate linear regression model was used to determine the correlations between PA and RC. The study involved a total of 18,396 participants and revealed that individuals whose PA met the guidelines by engaging in moderate-intensity PA at least 150 min per week had lower body mass index and showed decreased levels of triglyceride, TC, and haemoglobin A1c compared to those who were physically inactive, exercising <150 min per week. Participants whose intensity of PA meets PA guidelines had a lower level of RC than those who did not met PA guidelines (β = -1.3, 95% confidence interval [CI]: -1.9 to -0.7, p < 0.001), even after adjusting for confounders. During subgroup analysis, we observed that race (pinteraction = 0.0089) emerged as a significant factor of interaction.

Abstract
Objective: Previous studies are insufficient to confirm a causal association between physical activity (PA) and low back pain (LBP), intervertebral disc degeneration (IDD), and sciatica. The present study used a two-sample Mendelian randomization (MR) analysis method to demonstrate whether or not there was a causal connection. Methods: First, four PA phenotypes were selected [accelerometer-based PA (average acceleration), accelerometer-based PA (acceleration fraction >425 mg), self-reported moderate-to-vigorous PA, and self-reported vigorous PA], setting thresholds for single nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) significantly concerned with PA p < 5 × 10-8, linkage disequilibrium (LD) r 2 < 0.01, genetic distance >5,000 kb, and F-value >10. SNPs associated with the outcome and confounding factors were then excluded using the PhenoScanncer database. Finally, after coordinating the genetic instruments from genome-wide association studies (GWAS) effect alleles for exposure and outcomes, multiplicative random effects inverse variance weighting (IVW), MR-Egger, weighted median method (WMM), and weighted mode method were used to assess exposure-outcome causality and perform sensitivity analysis on the estimated results. Results: The current study's IVW findings revealed proof of a causal connection between PA and LBP. While there was a positive causal tie between accelerometer-based PA (acceleration fraction >425 mg) and LBP [OR: 1.818, 95% CI:1.129-2.926, p = 0.012], there was a negative causal link between accelerometer-based PA (average acceleration) and LBP [OR: 0.945, 95% CI: 0.909-0.984, p = 0.005]. However causal relationship between PA and IDD or sciatica was not found. Conclusion: Increasing average PA but needing to avoid high-intensity PA may be an effective means of preventing low back pain. Although PA is not directly causally related to disc degeneration and sciatica, it can act through indirect pathways.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE To estimate the dose-response associations between non-occupational physical activity and several chronic disease and mortality outcomes in the general adult population. DESIGN Systematic review and cohort-level dose-response meta-analysis. DATA SOURCES PubMed, Scopus, Web of Science and reference lists of published studies. ELIGIBILITY CRITERIA Prospective cohort studies with (1) general population samples >10 000 adults, (2) ≥3 physical activity categories, and (3) risk measures and CIs for all-cause mortality or incident total cardiovascular disease, coronary heart disease, stroke, heart failure, total cancer and site-specific cancers (head and neck, myeloid leukaemia, myeloma, gastric cardia, lung, liver, endometrium, colon, breast, bladder, rectum, oesophagus, prostate, kidney). RESULTS 196 articles were included, covering 94 cohorts with >30 million participants. The evidence base was largest for all-cause mortality (50 separate results; 163 415 543 person-years, 811 616 events), and incidence of cardiovascular disease (37 results; 28 884 209 person-years, 74 757 events) and cancer (31 results; 35 500 867 person-years, 185 870 events). In general, higher activity levels were associated with lower risk of all outcomes. Differences in risk were greater between 0 and 8.75 marginal metabolic equivalent of task-hours per week (mMET-hours/week) (equivalent to the recommended 150 min/week of moderate-to-vigorous aerobic physical activity), with smaller marginal differences in risk above this level to 17.5 mMET-hours/week, beyond which additional differences were small and uncertain. Associations were stronger for all-cause (relative risk (RR) at 8.75 mMET-hours/week: 0.69, 95% CI 0.65 to 0.73) and cardiovascular disease (RR at 8.75 mMET-hours/week: 0.71, 95% CI 0.66 to 0.77) mortality than for cancer mortality (RR at 8.75 mMET-hours/week: 0.85, 95% CI 0.81 to 0.89). If all insufficiently active individuals had achieved 8.75 mMET-hours/week, 15.7% (95% CI 13.1 to 18.2) of all premature deaths would have been averted. CONCLUSIONS Inverse non-linear dose-response associations suggest substantial protection against a range of chronic disease outcomes from small increases in non-occupational physical activity in inactive adults. Abstract
Heavy metal exposure has been reported to be correlated with lipid profile alteration and dyslipidemia. While the associations between serum cobalt (Co) with lipid profile levels and risk of dyslipidemia have not been explored in elderly population, and the underlying mechanisms remain unclear. All eligible 420 elderly people were recruited in three communities of Hefei City in this cross-sectional study. Peripheral blood samples and clinical information were collected. The level of serum Co was detected through ICP-MS. The biomarkers for systemic inflammation (TNF-α) and lipid peroxidation (8-iso-PGF2α) were measured with ELISA. Each 1-unit increase of serum Co was related with 0.513 mmol/L, 0.196 mmol/L, 0.571 mmol/L, and 0.303 g/L in TC, TG, LDL-C, and ApoB, respectively. Multivariate linear and logistic regression analyses indicated that the prevalence of elevated TC, elevated LDL-C, and elevated ApoB were gradually increased according to tertiles of serum Co concentration (all P trend < 0.001). The risk of dyslipidemia was positively correlated with serum Co (OR = 3.500; 95% CI 1.630 ~ 7.517). Moreover, the levels of TNF-α and 8-iso-PGF2α were gradually risen in parallel with elevating serum Co. The elevation of TNF-α and 8-iso-PGF2α partially mediated Co-caused elevation of TC and LDL-C. Environmental Co exposure is associated with elevated lipid profile levels and dyslipidemia risk among elderly population. Systemic inflammation and lipid peroxidation partially mediate the associations of serum Co with dyslipidemia.

Gender-specific relationship between frequency of food-away-from-home with serum lipid levels and dyslipidemia in chinese rural adults. Lipids Health Dis 2022; 21:112. Abstract
OBJECTIVE Food-away-from-home (FAFH) is one of the leading dietary patterns in Chinese families. However, the relationship between FAFH and dyslipidemia remains unclear, especially in the rural adult population. This study explored the relationship of FAFH frequency with serum lipid levels and dyslipidemia in rural Chinese adults. METHODS A total of 12,002 men and 17,477 women aged 18-79 were included from the Henan rural cohort. Serum lipid levels were measured by enzyme colorimetry. Information on FAFH frequency was collected using a validated questionnaire. The associations of FAFH frequency and serum lipid levels were assessed through multiple linear regression modeling. Logistic regression was performed to explore the linkages of the FAFH frequency to dyslipidemia and its four parameter types. Mediation analysis examined whether body mass index (BMI) acted as a mediator between the FAFH frequency and dyslipidemia. RESULTS After adjusting for potential confounders, the adjusted odds ratio (OR) and 95% confidence interval (CI) of the groups with 8-11 FAFH times/week for dyslipidemia were 1.991 (1.569, 2.526) in men compared with 0-frequency subgroup. Participants who consumed 8-11 FAFH times/week had a higher risk of high total cholesterol (TC), high triglycerides (TG), high LDL-cholesterol (LDL-C), and low HDL-cholesterol (HDL-C) with the OR and 95% CI of 1.928 (1.247, 2.980), 1.723 (1.321, 2.247), 1.875 (1.215, 2.893), and 1.513 (1.168, 1.959), respectively. In addition, the interaction effect between FAFH and gender was significantly associated with dyslipidemia and lipid levels (P < 0.001). BMI played a fully mediating effect between FAFH frequency and dyslipidemia in men, and the Sobel test showed the significance of the mediating effect (z = 4.2158, P < 0.001). CONCLUSION In rural Chinese adults, FAFH was significantly associated with a higher risk of dyslipidemia, which indicated the importance of FAFH reduction and dietary intervention in patients with dyslipidemia and cardiovascular disease, especially in clinical practice. Abstract
PURPOSE Previous studies have not fully described the relationship between high-density lipoprotein cholesterol (HDL-C) and death risks from all cause and cardiovascular disease (CVD). This study quantitatively evaluates HDL-C-mortality associations. METHODS Embase and PubMed databases were searched for relevant articles published up to 1 June 2019. Random-effects models were used to pool relative risks (RRs) and 95% confidence intervals (CIs). We used restricted cubic splines to model the dose-response association. RESULTS We identified 32 prospective cohort studies including 369,904 participants and 33,473 total deaths (9426 CVD deaths). Compared to the lowest HDL-C levels, all cause and CVD mortality risks were reduced by 18% (RR 0.82; 95% CI, 0.73-0.93) and 36% (0.64, 0.46-0.89), respectively, for the highest HDL-C levels. All cause and CVD mortality risks were reduced by 15% (0.85, 0.79-0.92) and 23% (0.77, 0.69-0.87), respectively, with each 1 mmol/L increment of HDL-C. We found evidence of nonlinear and negative dose-response associations of HDL-C with all cause and CVD mortality (Pnonlinearity < 0.001), and the lowest death risks from all cause and CVD were observed at approximately 1.34 and 1.55 mmol/L, respectively. CONCLUSION HDL-C is inversely associated with all cause and CVD mortality risks under approximately 2.05 and 2.33 mmol/L, respectively. Optimal doses require investigation via clinical practice or high-quality research.

Abstract
Individuals with obesity can have metabolic disorders and may develop impairments that affect the ability to exercise. The maximal incremental cardiopulmonary exercise test is widely used to assess functional capacity. However, submaximal tests such as the two-minute step test (2MST) and the six-minute walk test (6MWT) also allow this assessment. We propose to analyze whether body composition, metabolic and lipid profile influence the maximal and submaximal performance, and investigate these variables in response to different functional tests. Forty-four individuals with obesity, aged 18–50 years, underwent analysis of body composition, metabolic and lipid profile, incremental treadmill test (ITMT), 6MWT, and 2MST. One-way ANOVA, Pearson or Spearman correlation, and Stepwise multiple linear regression analysis were performed. ITMT induced a greater metabolic, ventilatory, cardiovascular, and perceived exertion demand when compared to the 6MWT and 2MST (p < 0.05). In addition, 2MST elicited a higher chronotropic (HR) and metabolic (V̇O2) demand when compared to the 6MWT (p < 0.05). Significant correlations were found between tests and body composition, metabolic and lipid profile. Fat mass and low-density lipoprotein can explain 30% of the V̇O2 variance in the ITMT; and fat mass, glucose, and performance in the 2MST can explain 42% of the variance of the distance walked in the ITMT. Obesity and its metabolic impairments are capable of influencing responses to exercise. ITMT generated greater demand due to the high stress imposed, however, 2MST demanded greater metabolic and chronotropic demand when compared to the 6MWT.

Abstract
BACKGROUND AND AIM The relationship between physical activity levels (PAL) and the presence of cardiovascular disease (CVD) risk factors such as anthropometric and biochemical indices and heat shock proteins 27 antibody (anti-HSP-27) concentration, and serum inflammatory markers, was investigated in the MASHAD cohort study. METHODS The overall study population consisted of 9,684 subjects (3,858 men, 5,826 women) with a mean age of 47.73 ± 8.08 to 48.87 ± 9.26 years respectively. They were divided into four categories based on their PAL. Biochemical parameters were determined for all participants. Also, serum anti-HSP-27 levels were measured using an in-house enzyme-linked immune sorbent assay method. Multiple regression analysis was used to explore the association between the anti-HSP antibody titers and physical activity after adjusting for confounding factors. The level of statistical significance was set at p < 0.05. RESULTS Several CVD risk factors were associated with the level of PAL including: body mass index, waist hip ratio, systolic and diastolic blood pressure, serum HDL-C and TG (p < 0.001) and also fasting blood glucose (0.004). Also, serum anti-HSP-27 titers were significantly higher in inactive subjects (P > 0.05). CONCLUSION We found that PAL was significantly associated with several established CVD risk factors. Also, the level of anti-HSP-27 was lower in individuals with moderate and high PAL.

Abstract
The objective of this study was to investigate the prevalence of regular physical activity (RPA) among middle-aged and older adults in urban communities in Jinan, China, and to identify the factors related to RPA. A cross-sectional survey was conducted among middle-aged and elderly urban residents. A total of 1406 participants were included in the final data analysis. The results of the four models consistently showed that the relevant factors of RPA were educational level, previously diagnosed hypertension (PDH) and depression. In terms of educational level, compared with illiteracy, from the first model to the fourth model, the odds ratios (ORs) and 95% confidence intervals (CIs) of senior middle school were 2.072 (1.418, 3.026), 2.072 (1.418, 3.026), 1.905 (1.289, 2.816) and 1.926 (1.302, 2.848), respectively, and the ORs and 95% CIs of college or above were 2.364 (1.462, 3.823), 2.364 (1.462, 3.823), 2.001 (1.208, 3.312) and 2.054 (1.239, 3.405). In terms of PDH, compared with those with PDH, from the first model to the fourth model, ORs and 95% CIs of non-PDH were 1.259 (1.003, 1.580), 1.259 (1.003, 1.580), 1.263 (1.006, 1.585) and 1.261 (1.004, 1.584), respectively. For depression, compared with those without depression, also from the first model to the fourth model, ORs and 95% CIs of depression were 0.702 (0.517, 0.951), 0.702 (0.517, 0.951), 0.722 (0.532, 0.981) and 0.719 (0.529, 0.977), respectively. In conclusion, the results of this study showed that participation in RPA among middle-aged and older adults in Jinan urban communities was significantly associated with education level, PDH and depression.

Abstract
Background Cohort studies about the effects of tourism experiences on the risk of death among Chinese older adults are still lacking. We aimed to examine the association between tourism experiences and mortality in Chinese aged 65 or above. Methods We included 9520 participants aged 65 years or above from the Chinese Longitudinal Healthy Longevity Survey at baseline in 23 provinces in 2011. They were followed up in 2014 and 2018. Cox proportional hazards models were used to assess the association between tourism experiences and the risk of death. Results Among 9520 participants, 7.85% had at least one tourism experience outside of their local city/county during the past 2 years. During 35,994.26 person-years of follow-up, in total 4635 deaths were observed. The crude rate of death was greater in participants who had no tourism experience than in older travelers (incidence rate: 13.70 versus 5.24 per 100 person-years). Elderly travelers had a significantly lower risk for all-cause mortality (crude hazard ratio: 0.38, 95% CI: 0.33–0.44) compared with non-travelers. After adjustment for all covariates, the risk of all-cause mortality was 27% lower among those with at least one tourism experience than among non-travelers (adjusted hazard ratio: 0.73, 95% CI: 0.62–0.85). Subgroup analysis showed that the associations between tourism and the decreased risk of mortality were stable. Conclusions Tourism decreases the risk of mortality in the Chinese elderly. Tourism should be considered as a modifiable lifestyle factor and an effective way to reduce mortality and promote longevity and healthy aging. Abstract
BACKGROUND Physical inactivity in the older adult is associated with functional decline, increased fall risk, and threatens the ability of the older adult to live independently. Nurse practitioners, with their expertise in health promotion and chronic disease management, are well positioned to provide physical activity (PA) counseling. However, there is a gap in the literature describing a practical formula for providing PA counseling and PA prescriptions for clinical practice. OBJECTIVE The objective of this integrative review was to synthesize the literature related to counseling interventions designed to increase PA among older adults and provide practical recommendations for incorporating recommendations into practice. DATA SOURCES Five different databases were searched along with ancestry searching of relevant articles. Eligible studies tested methods of recommending PA for adults age ≥65 years, including in-person counseling, phone calls, written information, and exercise prescriptions. CONCLUSIONS Health care providers are able to motivate older adults to increase PA in the short term. Diverse health care disciplines are efficacious at motivating older adults to increase PA. Various counseling interventions can be used with varying amounts of time investment. IMPLICATIONS FOR PRACTICE Physical activity counseling is an underused but effective intervention for increasing PA in older adults. Older adults respond well to advice to increase their PA especially with the addition of a written exercise prescription. Basing PA counseling interventions on a theoretical construct such as social cognitive theory or transtheoretical stages of change theory improves the efficacy of the interventions.

Abstract
This cross-sectional study aimed to compare risk factors for chronic kidney disease (CKD) in older adults with or without dyslipidemia and/or cardiovascular diseases (CVD) in Taipei City, Taiwan. The data on 2912 participants with hyperlipidemia and/or CVD and 14,002 healthy control participants derived from the Taipei City Elderly Health Examination Database (2010 to 2011) were analyzed. The associations between conventional CKD risk factors and CKD were comparable between participants with and without hyperlipidemia. Participants with high uric acid and BUN had a higher risk of CKD if they also had hyperlipidemia and CVD [odds ratio (OR) in uric acid = 1.572, 95% CI 1.186-2.120, p < 0.05; OR in BUN = 1.271, 95% CI 1.181-1.379, p < 0.05]. The effect was smaller in participants with hyperlipidemia only (OR in uric acid = 1.291, 95% CI 1.110-1.507, p < 0.05; OR in BUN = 1.169, 95% CI 1.122-1.221, p < 0.05). The association between uric acid/BUN and CKD was also observed in the healthy population and participants with CVD only. In conclusion, older adults with hyperlipidemia and CVD are at high of CKD. Physicians should be alert to the potential for CKD in older patients with hyperlipidemia and CVD.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Impaired kidney function is the hallmark of chronic kidney disease (CKD), and is associated with increased risk of all-cause mortality in the elderly. In the present cross-sectional population-based study, we aimed to evaluate the associations between lifestyle factors (exercise habit, alcohol consumption, smoking history, and betel nut chewing) and decreased kidney function. METHODS The data from the Taipei City Elderly Health Examination Database (2006 to 2012) were extracted. Associations between risk factors and reduced estimated Glomerular filtration rate (eGFR) were evaluated by regression and stratification analyses. RESULTS A total of 297,603 participants were included in the final analysis, and 29.7% of them had reduced eGFR. Smoking was significantly associated with an elevated risk of reduced eGFR. While, physical exercise conferred to a significantly decreased adjusted odds ratio (aOR) in reduced eGFR (regular exercise, aOR = 0.79; occasional exercise, aOR = 0.87). Furthermore, the protective effect of exercise habit against reduced eGFR was not affected by comorbid conditions, such as hypertension, diabetes, obesity, and cardiovascular disease. CONCLUSIONS Engaging in physical exercise was beneficially associated with reduced eGFR in older individuals. Longitudinal or prospective studies are warranted for confirmation and extrapolation of the current findings.

Abstract
Whether elevated serum uric acid levels (SUA) predict renal dysfunction remains controversial in the elderly. Therefore, we investigated the association between SUA and early renal function decline defined as an estimated glomerular filtration rate (eGFR) reduction ≥30% over 2 years. From 2001 to 2010, we conducted a longitudinal cohort study comprising 44,078 participants aged ≥65 years in the Taipei City Elderly Health Examination Database. Participants were classified by 1-mg/dL increment of SUA. We used multivariable logistic and Cox regression analyses to compare the risk of early renal function decline in different SUA groups. Compared to the reference SUA group of 5.0–5.9 mg/dL, hyperuricemic participants had increased risks of eGFR decline, starting at SUA ≥6.0 mg/dL (adjusted odds ratio [aOR] = 1.21, 95% confidence interval [CI] = 1.00–1.45). The risk progressively elevated as SUA increased, with the highest in the SUA ≥10.0 mg/dL group (aOR = 3.20, CI = 2.39–4.28). Multivariable Cox regression further confirmed that hyperuricemia was 1.12-fold (CI = 1.03–1.22, SUA ≥6.0 mg/dL) to 1.6-fold (CI = 1.37–1.86, SUA ≥10.0 mg/dL) more likely to develop early eGFR decline. Hyperuricemia-associated increased risks for early eGFR decline were consistent across subgroup and sensitivity analyses. Collectively, SUA ≥6.0 mg/dL independently predicted early renal dysfunction with eGFR decline ≥30% over 2 years in older people.

Abstract
PURPOSE To assess the relationship between light-intensity physical activity (LIPA) and cardiometabolic risk factors among middle-aged and older adults with multiple chronic conditions. DESIGN Cross-sectional design utilizing data from the Health and Retirement Study (2010, 2012). SETTING Laboratory- and survey-based testing of a nationally representative sample of community-dwelling middle aged and older adults. PARTICIPANTS Adults aged 50 years and older (N = 14 996). MEASURES Weighted metabolic equivalent of tasks was calculated using self-reported frequency of light, moderate, and vigorous physical activity. Cardiometabolic risk factors (systolic and diastolic blood pressure, glycosylated hemoglobin [HbA1c], high-density lipoprotein cholesterol [HDL-C], total cholesterol, and non-HDL-C) were objectively measured. A multiple chronic condition index was based on 8 self-reported chronic conditions. ANALYSIS Weighted multivariate linear regression models. RESULTS Light-intensity physical activity was independently associated with favorable HDL-C (β = 1.25; 95% confidence interval [CI]: 0.46-2.05) and total cholesterol (β = 2.72; 95% CI: 0.53-4.90) after adjusting for relevant confounders. The HDL-C health benefit was apparent when stratified by number of chronic conditions, for individuals with 2 to 3 conditions (β = 1.73; 95% CI: 0.58-2.89). No significant associations were observed between LIPA and blood pressure, HbA1c, or non-HDL-C. CONCLUSIONS Engaging in LIPA may be an important health promotion activity to manage HDL-C and total cholesterol. Additional longitudinal research is needed to determine the causal association between LIPA and cardiometabolic risk which can potentially inform physical activity guidelines targeting older adults with multiple chronic conditions.

Abstract
Background Associations between physical activity and lipid/lipoprotein levels and body composition among pediatric populations are not completely consistent in the literature. Accordingly, the aim of this study was to analyze lipid and lipoprotein profiles and body composition among children and adolescents differentiated according to their level of physical activity. Methods The study sample consisted of 69 participants that ranged from 6 to 17 years of age. Objective measures of physical activity were obtained over 7 days with accelerometers. Total cholesterol (TC), low density lipoprotein (LDL), high density lipoprotein (HDL) and triglycerides (TG) were measured from a fasting blood sample. High-risk values for these lipids/lipoproteins were determined using age- and sex-specific thresholds. Body composition estimates were obtained using a foot-to-foot bioelectrical impedance analysis. Results Almost half (47.8%) of the participants did not meet daily moderate-to-vigorous intensity physical activity (MVPA) recommendations. This group had lower free fat mass (by 5.51%), muscle mass content (by 5.17%), and a higher risk for abnormal HDL level (OR = 4.19) and excessive body fat content (OR = 3.05). Conclusions Participants who met daily recommended MVPA were found to have more favorable HDL and body fat levels compared to those who did not meet these recommendations.
