Abstract
The newly prepared and fully characterized stibenium and bismuthenium ions [Rind MesE]+ (E=Sb, Bi; Rind =dispiro[fluorene-9,3'-(1',1',7',7'-tetramethyl-s-hydrindacen-4'-yl)-5',9''-fluorene) were rigorously compared to the previously communicated phosphenium and arsenium ions (E=P, As) as well as the bis(m-terphenyl) pnictogenium ions [(2,6-Mes2 C6 H3 )2 E]+ (E=Sb, Bi). It is demonstrated that the choice of the aryl substituents dramatically effects the molecular structures (e. g. the primary E-C bond lengths) and the electronic structures (e. g. the energy of the LUMOs).

Abstract
peri-Substituted naphthalene complexes (Trip2Pn)2Naph (Pn = Sb 1, Bi 2) were synthesised and their redox behaviour investigated. Oxidation of 1 with [Fc][BArF] (BArF = B(C6F5)4) yielded [(Trip2Sb)(TripSb)Naph][BArF] (3) containing the stibane-coordinated stibenium cation [(Trip2Sb)(TripSb)Naph]+. Subsequent reduction of 3 with KC8 yielded distibane (TripSb)2Naph (4). 1-4 were characterised by NMR (1H, 13C) and IR spectroscopy as well as single-crystal X-ray diffraction (sc-XRD), while their electronic structures were analysed by quantum chemical computations.

Abstract
A 4-center, 6π-conjugated, multiply bonded trigonal-planar complex, [Sb{Cr(CO)5}3]- (1), was synthesized via the hydride abstraction of [HSb{Cr(CO)5}3]2- (1-H) with HBF4·H2O, with the release of high yields of H2. The oxidation state of the Sb atom in [Et4N][1] was well-defined as 0, which was evidenced by X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy and X-ray absorption near-edge structure. The distinct color-structure relationship of this low-valent Sb complex 1 toward a wide range of organic solvents was demonstrated, as interpreted by time-dependent density functional theory calculations, allowing the trigonal-planar 1 and the tetrahedral solvent adducts to be probed, revealing the dual acid/base properties of the Sb center. In addition, 1 showed pronounced electrophilicity toward anionic and neutral nucleophiles, even with solvent molecules, to produce tetrahedral complexes [(Nu)Sb{Cr(CO)5}3]n- [1-Nu; n = 2, Nu = H, F, Cl, Br, I, OH; n = 1, Nu = PEt3, PPh3, N,N-dimethylformamide (DMF), acetonitrile (MeCN)]. On the contrary, the Fe/Cr hydride complex [HSb{Fe(CO)4}{Cr(CO)5}2]2- (2-H) was obtained by treating 1 with [HFe(CO)4]-. Upon hydride abstraction of 2-H with HBF4·H2O or [CPh3][BF4], a multiply bonded Fe/Cr trigonal-planar complex, [Sb{Fe(CO)4}{Cr(CO)5}2]- (2), was produced in which the oxidation coupling Sb2-containing complexes [Sb2Cr4Fe2(CO)28]2- (3-Cr) and [HSb2Cr3Fe2(CO)23]- (3-H) were yielded as final products. Complex 3-Cr exhibited dual Lewis acid/base properties via hydridation and protonation reactions, to form 2-H or 3-H, respectively. Surprisingly, [Et4N][1] possessed a low energy gap of 1.13 eV with an electrical conductivity in the range of (1.10-2.77) × 10-6 S·cm-1, showing that [Et4N][1] was a low-energy-gap semiconductor. The crystal packing, crystal indexing, and density of states results of [Et4N][1] further confirmed the efficient through-space conduction pathway via the intermolecular Sb···O(carbonyl) and O(carbonyl)···O(carbonyl) interactions of the 1D anionic zigzag chain of 1.

Abstract
Square-planar halide complexes in which four trimethylphosphine-stabilized diphenyl-stibenium or -bismuthenium ions surround a central halide ion in discrete centrosymmetrical structures of C4h symmetry have been isolated and their structures determined by X-ray crystallography. The structures are stabilized by electrostatic interactions between the halide ion and four positively charged trimethylphosphine-stabilized diphenyl-stibenium or -bismuthenium ions, as well as four edge-to-face phenyl–phenyl embraces above and below the plane containing the nine main group elements. The parent halide-free trimethylphosphine-stabilized diphenyl-arsenium, -stibenium, and -bismuthenium hexaflurophosphate complexes have also been prepared and structurally characterized.

Abstract
The reaction of CH3OSO2CF3 (MeOTf) with BiBr3 in tetrahydrofuran (THF) yields (THF)2BiBr2(OTf) (1), which is converted to (dmpe)BiBr2(OTf) (2Br) upon displacement of the THF ligands with bis(dimethylphosphino)ethane (dmpe). The chloride derivatives (dmpe)BiCl2(OTf) (2Cl) and (dmpe)BiCl(OTf)2 (3) are obtained from the reaction of BiCl3 and dmpe with 1 and 2 equiv of Me3SiOSO2CF3 (TMSOTf), respectively. The complexes readily decompose in solution to give elemental bismuth and a mixture of products. The solid-state structures reveal dimeric units bridged by both triflate O-S-O interactions and weak Bi-X-Bi interactions (X = Cl, Br). Comparison of the solid-state structures illustrates that both cis and trans configurations of halides are possible in complexes of the form L2BiX2(OTf), depending upon the denticity of the ligand. The experimentally observed configurations are consistent with minima calculated at the MP2 level for the triflate-free cations in the gas phase. Examination of the MP2-calculated electronic structure of 3 reveals the presence of low-lying π-type orbitals that may result in Z-type ligand activity. However, the attempted coordination of 3 with the electron-rich metal center in K2PdCl4, via metal-to-ligand back-donation, leads instead to halide abstraction, giving [(dmpe)2Pd][(CH3CN)2Bi2Cl6(OTf)2] (8). The anion in 8 consists of two octahedral bismuth environments bridged along one edge by two triflate anions. The results illustrate new coordination chemistry for bismuth.

Abstract
Reactions of the cyclic tetraphosphine (CyP)(4) with arsenium or stibenium cations (R(2)Pn(+), Pn = As, Sb and R = Cl, Ph) give salts of the new cationic frameworks [(CyP)(4)(AN)](+), [(CyP)(4)(SbCl(2))](+) and [{(CyP)(4)}(2)(Sb(2)Cl(2))](2+). The cations can be viewed as coordination complexes of a cyclophosphine ligand on a pnictenium cation, or a cyclo-2,3,4-triphosphino-1-pnictino-1-phosphonium cation, representing the first branched cyclic pnictogen framework, and examples of tertiary phosphonium centers with As-P or Sb-P bonds.
