Abstract
The first isolation and structural characterization of a series of chiral trinitrogen 1,3-bis(4,5-dihydrooxazol-2-ylimino)isoindoline-based pincer ligands are reported. Cadmium complexes, isolated as Cd(L2X)2 where L2X is the deprotonated form of L2XH = 1,3-bis(4,5-dihydro-4-(R)-phenyloxazol-2-ylimino)-isoindoline ((R,R)-5H) or 1,3-bis(4,5-dihydro-4-(S)-iso-propyloxazol-2-ylimino)isoindoline ((S,S)-6H) were prepared in situ via traditional or microwave-based techniques with the latter being more efficient but less able to be scaled up at this time. Ligands (R,R)-5H and (S,S)-6H were isolated via deligation from their respective cadmium complexes using a thiol-based ligand exchange protocol. The characterization of ligands and their respective cadmium complexes, in both the solid (X-ray crystallography) and solution (NMR spectroscopy) states are reported. Pd((S,S)-6)(OAc) is reported as a proof-of-concept of the ability to prepare 1 : 1 ligand to metal ratio complexes that are believed to be necessary as potential enantioselective catalysts.

Rhodium
and iridium diolefin catalysts for the acceptorless and
base-free dehydrogenation of secondary alcohols have been prepared,
and their degradation has been investigated, during the study of the
reactivity of the dimers [M(μ-Cl)(η4-C8H12)]2 (M = Rh (1), Ir
(2)) and [M(μ-OH)(η4-C8H12)]2 (M = Rh (3), Ir (4)) with 1,3-bis(6′-methyl-2′-pyridylimino)isoindoline
(HBMePHI). Complex 1 reacts with HBMePHI, in dichloromethane,
to afford equilibrium mixtures of 1, the mononuclear
derivative RhCl(η4-C8H12){κ1-Npy-(HBMePHI)} (5), and the binuclear species [RhCl(η4-C8H12)]2{μ-Npy,Npy-(HBMePHI)} (6). Under
the same conditions, complex 2 affords the iridium counterparts
IrCl(η4-C8H12){κ1-Npy-(HBMePHI)} (7) and [IrCl(η4-C8H12)]2{μ-Npy,Npy-(HBMePHI)} (8). In contrast to chloride,
one of the hydroxide groups of 3 and 4 promotes
the deprotonation of HBMePHI to give [M(η4-C8H12)]2(μ-OH){μ-Npy,Niso-(BMePHI)} (M = Rh
(9), Ir (10)), which are efficient precatalysts
for the acceptorless and base-free dehydrogenation of secondary alcohols.
In the presence of KOtBu, the [BMePHI]− ligand undergoes three different degradations: alcoholysis
of an exocyclic isoindoline-N double bond, alcoholysis of a pyridyl-N
bond, and opening of the five-membered ring of the isoindoline core.

We developed a series of unsymmetrical CNN palladacycles with geometry-constrained iminopyridyl ligands, which were used as efficient precatalysts for preparing diarylalkanes through Suzuki coupling.

Abstract
The first synthesis and characterization of metal coordinated complexes containing in situ prepared chiral trinitrogen 1,3-bis(4,5-dihydrooxazol-2-ylimino)isoindoline-based pincer ligands are reported. Two zinc complexes, isolated as Zn(L)(2), where L = 1,3-bis(4,5-dihydro-4-(R)-phenyloxazol-2-ylimino)isoindoline ((R,R)-5) or 1,3-bis(4,5-dihydro-4-(S)-iso-propyloxazol-2-ylimino)isoindoline ((S,S)-6), respectively, are reported. Complexes Zn((R,R)-5)(2) and Zn((S,S)-6)(2) were prepared in situ through the condensation of phthalonitrile with enantiopure 2-amino-4-(R)-phenyloxazoline ((R)-3) or 2-amino-4-(S)-iso-propyloxazoline ((S)-4) in the presence of ZnCl(2) at 80 °C in dry toluene over 3-4 days. The characterizations of Zn((R,R)-5)(2) and Zn((S,S)-6)(2) in both the solid (X-ray crystallography) and solution (multinuclear NMR spectroscopy) states are reported.

Abstract
Unsymmetrical 1-(arylimino)-3-(2-hetarylimino)isoindolines have been prepared from 1,3-diiminoisoindoline, an arylamine (aniline, 2-methylaniline, 2-iodoaniline), and a heteroaromatic amine (2-amino-6-methylpyridine, 2-amino-4-methylthiazole) in a stepwise manner by two consecutive condensations. The metalation reactions of these compounds with palladium(II) acetate proceed upon cyclopalladation of the carbocyclic aryl moieties and yield unsymmetrical C, N, N pincer complexes in all cases. X-ray crystallographic analysis were performed on single crystals of hydrogen{acetato[1-phenylimino-3-(6-methylpyridylimino)isoindolinato]palladate(II)} H[(phpi)Pd(OAc)] and pyridine[1-(2-tolylimino)-3-(4-methylthiazolylimino)isoindolinato]palladium(II) [(2-tolti)Pd(py)] by which the coordination mode, the conformation, the protonation site, and the trans influence of the carbon donor were established. For one more C, N, N pincer complex, hydrogen{acetato[1-(2-iodophenylimino)-3-(6-methylpyridylimino)isoindolinato]palladate(II)} H[(2-Iphpi)Pd(OAc)], a similar mononuclear coordination mode was confirmed by (1)H NMR spectroscopy, whereas for the product of an oxidative addition reaction of a palladium(0) precursor to the iodoaryl derivative a product with exo coordination was found. First experiments showed the effectivity of one of these complexes as a precatalyst in CC coupling reactions (Heck and Stille coupling).
