Abstract
Direct C(sp2)-H functionalization of the endocyclic azomethine and aldonitrone moieties in non-aromatic azaheterocycles has established itself as a promising methodology over the last decade. Transition metal-catalyzed cross-coupling reactions, α-metalation-electrophile quenching protocols, and (metal-free) nucleophilic substitution of hydrogen reactions (SNH) are the major routes applied on cyclic imines and their derivatives. In this overview, we show the tangible progress made in this area during the period from 2008 to 2020.

Abstract
The isoxazolidine ring represents one of the privileged structures in medicinal chemistry, and there have been an increasing number of studies on isoxazolidine and isoxazolidine-containing compounds. Optimization of the 1,3-dipolar cycloaddition (1,3-DC), original methods including electrophilic or palladium-mediated cyclization of unsaturated hydroxylamine, has been developed to obtain isoxazolidines. Novel reactions involving the isoxazolidine ring have been highlighted to accomplish total synthesis or to obtain bioactive compounds, one of the most significant examples being probably the thermic ring contraction applied to the total synthesis of (±)-Gelsemoxonine. The unique isoxazolidine scaffold also exhibits an impressive potential as a mimic of nucleosides, carbohydrates, PNA, amino acids, and steroid analogs. This review aims to be a comprehensive and general summary of the different isoxazolidine syntheses, their use as starting building blocks for the preparation of natural compounds, and their main biological activities.

Abstract
The titled approaches were effected with various 2-substituted benzoylacetic acid oximes 3 (Beckmann) and 2-substituted malonamic acids 9 (Hofmann), their carboxyl groups being masked as a 2,4,10-trioxaadamantane unit (an orthoacetate). The oxime mesylates have been rearranged with basic Al2O3 in refluxing CHCl3, and the malonamic acids with phenyliodoso acetate and KOH/MeOH. Both routes are characterized by excellent overall yields. Structure confirmation of final products was conducted with X-ray diffraction in selected cases. The final N-benzoyl and N-(methoxycarbonyl) products are α-amino acids with both carboxyl and amino protection; hence, they are of great interest in peptide synthesis.

Abstract
A series of cyclic nitrones have been tested for their spin-trapping activity in the enhanced spin-capturing polymerization of styrene and in nitrone-mediated radical coupling reactions. rac-2-Isopropyl-2,3-dimethyl-1-oxy-2,3-dihydro-imidazol-4-one was found to be the most efficient nitrone. The specific polystyrene macroradical addition rate to this nitrone was determined to be 8.0 × 103 L mol–1 s–1, which is by a factor of 10 higher than for previously studied compounds. Via enhanced spin-capturing polymerization, polymers in the range of oligomers to 30000 g mol–1 were obtained. A strong dependence of molecular weight on monomer conversion was observed, which can be explained by the high trapping rate. In nitrone-mediated radical coupling, almost ideal coupling of bromine-functional polymers was obtained and the successful introduction of the residual alkoxyamine functionality confirmed.
