Abstract
A pair of 3-methoxysalicylhydrazone-based homochiral ligands constructed chiral trinuclear and pentanuclear complexes with LaIII and DyIII ions, respectively, which indicates that the radii controlled the self-assembled structures. Chiral transfer during the self-assembly processes was confirmed by crystal structure analysis and CD spectroscopy. Then, magnetic investigations demonstrated that the chiral Dy5 complexes exhibited typical single-molecule magnet behavior.

Abstract
Eu3+ -β-diketonate complexes are used, for example, in solid-state lighting (SSL) or light-converting molecular devices. However, their low emission quantum efficiency due to water molecules coordinated to Eu3+ and low photostability are still problems to be addressed. To overcome such challenges, we synthesized Eu3+ tetrakis complexes based on [Q][Eu(tfaa)4 ] and [Q][Eu(dbm)4 ] (Q1 = C26 H56 N+ , Q2 = C19 H42 N+ , and Q3 = C17 H38 N+ ), replacing the water molecules in the tris stoichiometry. The tetrakis β-diketonates showed desirable thermal stability for SSL and, under excitation at 390 nm, they displayed the characteristic Eu3+ emission in the red spectral region. The quantum efficiencies of the dbm complexes achieved values as high as 51%, while the tfaa complexes exhibited lower quantum efficiencies (28-33%), but which were superior to those reported for the tris complexes. The structures were evaluated using the Sparkle/PM7 model and comparing the theoretical and the experimental Judd-Ofelt parameters. [Q1][Eu(dbm)4 ] was used to coat a near-UV light-emitting diode (LED), producing a red-emitting LED prototype that featured the characteristic emission spectrum of [Q1][Eu(dbm)4 ]. The emission intensity of this prototype decreased only 7% after 30 h, confirming its high photostability, which is a notable result considering Eu3+ complexes, making it a potential candidate for SSL.

Abstract
We report the in situ formation of two novel metal-organic frameworks based on terbium and dysprosium ions using azobenzene-4,4'-dicarboxylic acid (H₂abd) as ligand, synthesized by soft hydrothermal routes. Both materials show isostructural three-dimensional networks with channels along a axis and display intense photoluminescence properties in the solid state at room temperature. Textural properties of the metal-organic frameworks (MOFs) have been fully characterized although no appreciable porosity was obtained. Magnetic properties of these materials were studied, highlighting the dysprosium material displays slightly frequency-dependent out of phase signals when measured under zero external field and under an applied field of 1000 Oe.

Abstract
A new Tb(III) complex based on a tripodal carboxylate ligand has been synthesized for the selective fluorescent recognition of phosphate anions, including inorganic phosphates and nucleoside phosphates (e.g., ATP), in Tris buffer solution. The resulting L · Tb complex shows the characteristic emission bands centered at about 495 and 550 nm from the Tb(III)-centered (5)D4 excited state to (7)FJ transitions with J = 6 and 5, where the chelating ligand acts only as an "antenna". Upon the addition of phosphate anions to the aqueous solution of Tb(III) complex, significant "on-off" fluorescence changes were observed, which were attributed to the inhibition of the "antenna" effect between the ligand and Tb(III) after the incorporation of phosphate anions. Furthermore, this unique Tb(III) complex has been successfully utilized to detect phosphate anions with filter papers and hydrogels. Notably, the Tb(III) complex also can be used for the construction of molecular logic gates with TRANSFER and INHIBIT logic functions by using the above fluorescence changes.

Abstract
New Tb(iii) and Eu(iii) complexes have been synthesized as potential pH probes using a tripodal substituted-salicylic ligand (H3). Among them, this carboxylate ligand is found to be a good sensitizer for Tb(iii) emission owing to the superior match of the triplet energy level of the ligand with the (5)D4 emitting level of Tb(iii). The resulting · complex exhibited high sensitivity in the physiological pH range with significant "off-on-off" fluorescence changes in aqueous solution. Furthermore, this unique rare-earth complex has been successfully used to monitor pH variations within HeLa cells and with filter papers.

Abstract
A new bis(β-diketonate), 1,3-bis(4,4,4-trifluoro-1,3-dioxobutyl)phenyl (BTP), which contains a trifluorinated alkyl group, has been prepared for the synthesis of two series of dinuclear lanthanide complexes with the general formula Ln2(BTP)3L2 [Ln(3+) = Eu(3+), L = DME(1), bpy(2), and phen(3); Ln(3+) = Sm(3+), L = DME(4), bpy(5), and phen(6); DME = ethylene glycol dimethyl ether, bpy = 2,2'-bipyridine, phen = 1,10-phenanthroline]. The crystal structure of the free ligand has been determined and shows a twisted arrangement of the two binding sites around the 1,3-phenylene spacer. X-ray crystallographic analysis reveals that complexes 1, 2, 4, and 5 are triple-stranded dinuclear structures formed by three bis-bidentate ligands with two lanthanide ions. The room-temperature photoluminescence (PL) spectra of complexes 1-6 show that this bis-β-diketonate can effectively sensitize rare earths (Sm(3+) and Eu(3+)) and produce characteristic emissions of the corresponding Eu(3+) and Sm(3+) ions. In addition, two bidentate nitrogen ancillary ligands, 2,2'-bipyridine (bpy) and 1,10-phenanthroline (phen), have been employed to enhance the luminescence quantum yields and lifetimes of both series of Eu(3+) and Sm(3+) complexes.

Abstract
A biphenyl-linked bis-β-diketone ligand, 3,3'-bis(3-phenyl-3-oxopropanol)biphenyl (BPB) has been prepared for the syntheses of a series of dinuclear lanthanide complexes. The ligand bears two benzoyl β-diketonate sites linked by a 3,3'-biphenyl spacer. Reaction of the doubly negatively charged bis-bidenate ligand with lanthanide ions forms triple-stranded dinuclear complexes Ln(2)(BPB)(3) (Ln=Nd (1), Sm (2), Eu (3), Yb (4) and Gd (5)). Electrospray mass spectrometry is used to identify the formation of the triple-stranded dinuclear complexes 1-5, which have been further characterized by various spectroscopic techniques. The complexes display strong visible and NIR luminescence upon excitation at ligands bands around 360 nm, depending on the choice of the lanthanides, and the emission quantum yields and luminescence lifetimes of 2-3 have been determined. It shows that the biphenyl-linked ligand BPB is a more efficient sensitizer than the monodiketone ligand DBM (dibenzoylmethane), through the comparisons of Ln(2)(BPB)(3) and Ln(DBM)(3) on their photoluminescent properties.

Abstract
To explore the relationship between the structure of the ligands and the luminescent properties of the lanthanide complexes, luminescent lanthanide complexes of a new tripodal ligand, featuring N-thenylsalicylamide arms, were synthesized and characterized by elemental analysis, IR and TGA measurements. Photophysical properties of the complexes were studied by means of UV - visible absorption and steady-state luminescence spectroscopy. The results of UV - vis spectra indicate that metal binding does not disturb the electronic structure of the ligand. Excited-state luminescence lifetimes and quantum yields of the complexes were determined. The photoluminescence analysis suggested that there is an efficient ligand - Ln(III) energy transfer for the Tb(III) complex, and the ligand is an efficient 'antenna' for Tb(III). From a more general perspective, the results demonstrated the potential application of the lanthanide complex as luminescent materials in material chemistry.

Abstract
A new bis-β-diketone, 3,3'-bis(4,4,4-trifluoro-1,3-dioxobutyl)biphenyl (BTB), has been designed and prepared for the synthesis of a series of dinuclear lanthanide complexes [Ln(2)(BTB)(3)(C(2)H(5)OH)(2)(H(2)O)(2)] [Ln = Eu (1), Gd (2)], [Ln(2)(BTB)(3)(DME)(2)] [Ln = Nd (3), Yb (4); DME = ethylene glycol dimethyl ether] and [Eu(2)(BTB)(3)(L)(2)] [L = 2,2-bipydine (5); 1,10-phenanthroline (6); 4,7-diphenyl-1,10-phenanthroline (7)]. Complexes 1-7 have been characterized by various spectroscopic techniques and their photophysical properties are investigated. X-ray crystallographical analysis reveals that complexes 1, 3 and 4 adopt triple-stranded dinuclear structures which are formed by three bis-bidentate ligands with two lanthanide ions. The complexes 1 and 3-7 display strong visible red or NIR luminescence upon irradiation at ligand band around 372 nm, depending on the choice of the lanthanide. The solid-state photoluminescence quantum yields and the lifetimes of Eu(3+) complexes are determined and described.
