Abstract
A ruthenium-catalysed arene ortho C-H amidation of 4-aryl-pyrrolo[2,3-d]pyrimidine derivatives with acyl azides or phosphoryl azides as the nitrogen sources toward C-N bond formation was developed. This protocol could offer a novel and direct approach to access a series of amidated and phosphoramidated pyrrolo[2,3-d]pyrimidine derivatives in moderate to good yields, thereby evading the general Curtius rearrangement. The protocol features significant functional group tolerance and a single-step process, with the release of only innocuous molecular nitrogen as the byproduct.

Abstract
An efficient and highly regioselective Pd-catalyzed direct arene C(sp2)-H acyloxylation of pyrrolo[2,3-d]pyrimidine derivatives is reported. The key strategy involves the utilization of the unique reactivity of pyrrolo[2,3-d]pyrimidine and the employment of pyrrolo[2,3-d]pyrimidine as the directing group. A variety of monoacyloxylated pyrrolo[2,3-d]pyrimidine derivatives can be achieved by switching the solvents under mild conditions, and they can be further modified and exhibit various biological activities.

Abstract
Pd-catalyzed directing-group-assisted regioselective halogenations to C7 of indolines and C8 of tetrahydroquinolines were achieved in good to excellent yields. The practicality and utility of the developed method have been illustrated by various functional group transformations such as arylation, alkenylation, cyanation, and silylation utilizing the installed synthetic handle. The concise synthesis of primaquine, an antimalarial drug, and formal syntheses of two bioactive natural products, hippadine and pratosine, have also been demonstrated.

Abstract
An efficient protocol for the introduction of acetoxy and hydroxy functionalities on unactivated aryl sp2 carbons of oxobenzoxazine derivatives via an ortho-C-H activation reaction using a palladium catalyst has been developed for the first time. Interestingly, this intermolecular C-H functionalization reaction takes place in a facile and simple manner with high chemo- and site selectivity.

Abstract
In this work, the mechanism of the palladium-catalysed acetoxylation of benzene C-H has been studied theoretically in detail. Based on experimental studies, a four-step mechanism for this reaction had been proposed, that is, C−H activation of benzene is the rate-determining step which forms an intermediate ( k1 pathway) which is subsequently oxidized to produce a high-valent Pd intermediate ( k2 pathway). Using quantum chemical calculations, all pathways were investigated, and the activation energy, activation enthalpy and activation Gibbs free energy for all steps were calculated and compared with each other. It was determined that the RDS proceeds through a square complex instead of a T-shaped complex. The activation energy related to the k2 pathway is higher than that of the RDS, and therefore, a new mechanism is proposed.

Abstract
There has been increasing use of hypervalent iodine reagents in the field of nucleoside chemistry. Applications span: (a) synthesis of nucleoside analogues with sulfur and seleno sugar surrogates, (b) synthesis of unusual carbocyclic and ether ring-containing nucleosides, (c) introduction of sulfur and selenium into pyrimidine bases of nucleosides and analogues, (d) synthesis of isoxazole and isoxazoline ring-containing nucleoside analogues, (e) involvement of purine ring nitrogen atoms for remote C-H bond oxidation, and (f) metal-catalyzed and uncatalyzed synthesis of benzimidazolyl purine nucleoside analogues by intramolecular C-N bond formation. This review offers a perspective on developments involving the use of hypervalent iodine reagents in the field of nucleoside chemistry that have appeared in the literature in the 2003-2017 time frame.

Abstract
C–H alkylations of purine nucleosides were achieved by means of user-friendly nickel catalysis with ample substrate scope and high levels of chemo, site and regio control, which among others enabled the direct fluorescent labeling of purines in terms of late stage diversification.

Abstract
A palladium-catalyzed alkoxylation of N(9)-arylpurines with primary or secondary alcohols has been developed successfully, which is a rare C-H activation reaction of polynitrogenated purines and offers a late-stage strategy to synthesize N(9)-(ortho-alkoxyl)arylpurines. Although there are more than four nitrogen atoms present in the purine moiety, the reaction can be effectively conducted by sterically blocking the N(1) site for catalyst coordination and first employing the purinyl N(3) atom as a directing group.

Abstract
A method for cobalt(iii)-catalyzed alkenylation of arenes and 6-arylpurines has been developed. This reaction takes place under mild conditions with only equivalent terminal alkynes in high yields. A mitochondria-targeted imaging dye was simply prepared through this method.

Abstract
Palladium-catalyzed C-H bond activation and oxidation of C6 arylpurines as well as C6 arylpurine nucleosides can be accomplished using Pd(OAc)2/PhI(OAc)2 in CH3CN. Despite the presence of four nitrogen atoms in the purine moiety as well as the polyoxygenated saccharide and a labile glycosidic bond in the nucleosides, these reactions can be effectively conducted. Notably, the generally more labile 2'-deoxyribonucleosides also undergo reaction. The reaction conditions can be tuned to yield either monoacetoxylated or diacetoxylated products predominantly. In the course of these investigations, a dimeric Pd(II)-containing cyclopalladated C6 naphthylpurine derivative has been obtained and crystallographically characterized. This compound is competent in catalyzing the oxidization with PhI(OAc)2, indicating its plausible intermediacy in the chemistry. The X-ray structure of a monoacetoxylated product from this reaction has also been obtained.

Abstract
A novel protocol for a Cu-catalyzed direct C((sp(2)))-H activation/intramolecular amination reaction of 6-anilinopurine nucleosides has been developed. This approach provides a new access to a variety of multiheterocyclic compounds from purine compounds via Cu-catalyzed intramolecular N-H bond tautomerism which are endowed with fluorescence.
