Abstract
Metallic antitumor drugs with heterocyclic ligands, such as novel AMI (amino methyl imidazole) complexes [Pd(AMI)Cl2](1), [Cu(AMI)L1](2), and [Cu(AMI)L2·2H2O](3) where L1 = oxalate and L2 = malonate, were synthesized and characterized. Assessments included elemental analyses, mass spectrometry, Fourier transform-infrared spectroscopy, ultraviolet-visible spectroscopy, and thermal analysis. The cytotoxicity of AMI complexes compared to cisplatin was assessed using MTT (3-[4,5-dimethylthiazol-2-yl] 2,5diphenyl tetrazolium bromide) assay with breast (MCF-7) and cervical (HeLa) cancer cell lines. After treating these cells with the AMI complexes' IC50 values for 48 h, malondialdehyde levels and catalase activity were used to assess oxidative stress, antioxidant activity was evaluated with DPPH radical scavenging method, comet assays assessed DNA damage, and DNA fragmentation was evaluated using the gel electrophoresis. In vitro, antimicrobial activity was assessed using a disc diffusion method. The anticancer activity results showed that IC50 (half-maximal inhibitory concentration) values of complex one, two, and three against MCF-7 and HeLa cancer cells are 0.156 ± 0.0006, 0.125 ± 0.001, 0.277 ± 0.002 μM respectively for MCF-7 cells and 0.222 ± 0.0005, 0.126 ± 0.0009, 0.152 ± 0.001 μM respectively for HeLa cells. Complex two demonstrated strong anticancer activity against MCF-7 and Hela cells. The study of oxidative stress parameters revealed that Malondialdehyde levels increased in cancer cell lines treated with complexes compared to untreated cells. Catalase activity decreased in cells treated with palladium chelate. The DPPH radical scavenging assay results identified that complex one was a more potent antioxidant in MCF-7 and Hela cells than other complexes with SC50 values of 227.5 ± 0.28 and 361 ± 1.2 μL/mL, respectively. The comet assay results showed that complex two caused significant DNA damage in MCF-7 and HeLa cancer cells treated. Antimicrobial assays identified complex three as the most effective. Copper complexes give better antifungal activity against A. flavus than the palladium complex. We conclude that complex two is the most active in both cell types and might be assessed as a clinically useful drug for breast cancer treatment. The significance of the current study is the synthesis of antitumor drugs containing heterocyclic ligands, such as novel AMI complexes, and the study of their biological activities.

Abstract
Eight 1,10-phenanthrolines bearing one or two 2-(1-adamantyloxy)ethylamino substituents attached to different positions of the heterocyclic core were prepared according to SN Ar or palladium-catalyzed amination reactions. Their reaction with cis-Ru(bpy)2 Cl2 (bpy=2,2'-bipyridine) was investigated and Ru(bpy)2 (L)(PF6 )2 (phen=1,10-phenanthroline) (L=amino-substituted 1,10-phenanthroline) complexes were obtained in good yields. The electronic structure and emissive properties of these complexes are strongly dependent on the position of the amino substituent in the heterocycle. Emission bands of the complexes bearing 2- and 4-substituted 1,10-phenanthroline ligands are red-shifted (up to 56 nm) and less intense compared to that of the parent [Ru(phen)(bpy)2 ](PF6 )2 . In contrast, the introduction of the substituent in 3- or 5-position of 1,10-phenanthroline ring induces only small decrease of luminescence and the brightness of the complex with the 3-substituted ligand is comparable to that of the parent complex.

Abstract
A novel metal complex was synthesized containing a purine derived ligand in order to increase its binding to DNA. We observed a huge increase in nuclease activity and, quite interestingly, an improvement on DNA sequence selectivity. A potential site of specific cleavage in the presence of a reductant in the reaction medium is suggested. We were able to synthesize a novel metal nuclease with improved activity on DNA, and with sequence specificity when exposed to a coreactant, this opens up new possibilities to create site specific and redox status modulated artificial nucleases.

Abstract
Photosensitizers with high photocleavage ability are urgently needed to improve photodynamic therapy efficacy. Herein, a supramolecular complex was constructed through host-guest self-assembly using hexa-β-CD-appended ruthenium polypyridyl (6CD-Ru) and adamantane-modified anthracene (ADA-AN) in water. The targeted DNA-intercalation of peripheral anthracenes can remarkably enhance photocleavage ability and antitumor activity of the complex irradiated with visible light.

Abstract
New Schiff base complexes [Cu(L1)Cl] (1), [Ni(L1)Cl] (2), [Zn(L1)Cl] (3), and [Fe(L2)H2OCl] (4) {L1=(4E)-3-(2-hydroxybenzylidene)-4-(2-hydroxyphenylimino)pentan-2-one, L2=2,2'-(1E,1'E)-(3-(2-hydroxybenzylidene)-pentane-2,4-diylidene)bis(azan-1-yl-1 idene)diphenol} have been synthesized and characterized by elemental analysis, UV-Vis, IR, FAB-mass, EPR, spectral studies and electrochemical studies, the ligands L1 &L2 were characterized by 1H and 13C NMR spectra. Complex 1 show a visible spectral d-d band near 600nm and display cyclic voltammetric quasireversible response for the Cu(II)/Cu(I) couple vs Ag/AgCl in DMSO. The EPR spectrum of 1 show g‖>g⊥ suggesting a square planar geometry around copper with dx2-y2 as the ground state. The mass spectral results have confirmed the proposed structure for complexes 1-4. DNA binding properties of these complexes 1-4 have been investigated by absorption titrations, cyclic voltammetric studies and circular dichroism studies. On titration with DNA, the complexes 1-4 show hypochromism at the MLCT band (13-31%) with a red shift of 1-8nm in the electronic spectrum and positive shift of voltammetric E1/2 in the CV studies are in favour of intercalative binding. CD spectra of 1 showed an increase in molar ellipticity (θ278) of the positive band with a minor red shift indicating the transition of B-form of DNA to A like form. DNA cleavage studies of complexes 1 and 4 with pUC18 DNA were studied by gel electrophoresis and complex 4 cleaves supercoiled pUC18 DNA in an oxidative manner in the presence of H2O2 and on photo irradiation at 312nm.
