Abstract
Graphene-based adsorbent was prepared by adopting a green synthetic route via the chemical exfoliation of graphite and low-temperature thermal activation. Prepared reactive graphene (RG) was characterized through various techniques, and its adsorption capabilities for textile dye removal were investigated for Acid Blue-93 (AB) and Reactive Red-195 (RR) under different operational conditions. The dye sorption equilibrium and mechanism were comprehensively studied using isotherm and kinetic models and compared statistically to explain the sorption behavior. Results show AB and RR adsorption by RG attains equilibrium in 60 min and 70 min, with a high sorption quantity of 397 mg g-1 and 262 mg g-1 (initial dye concentration of 100 mg L-1), respectively. The dye sorption anticipates that the high surface area (104.52 m2 gm-1) and constructed meso-macroporous features of RG facilitated the interaction between the dye molecules and graphitic skeleton. The R-P isotherm fitted the best of equilibrium data, having the least variance in residuals for both dyes (AB = 0.00031 and RR = 0.00047). The pseudo-second order model best fitted the kinetics of sorption on RG, with chemisorption being the predominant process delimiting step. The overall results promise the dye removal capability of RG to be an efficient adsorbent for azo-based dyes from textile effluents.

Abstract
This study evaluated the influence of O2-absorbing sachets into different packages polyethylene terephthalate (PET - E1), low density polyethylene (LDPE - E2), and PET/LDPE (E3) on the quality of minimally processed soybean sprouts (MP-sprouts). The MP-sprouts were stored up to 12 days and characterized for physicochemical, microbiological and sensory attributes. The O2-absorbing sachet showed changes during exposure to the environment by the formation of amorphous iron hydroxide, which was observed by the analysis of functional groups and XRD. The packaging used in the study showed high transmittance and clarity, and low Haze, being a good feature for storing the MP product. All packaging systems showed an increase in the volume of absorbed oxygen (cm3) up to 9 days of storage. The physic-chemical characteristics of the MP-sprouts stored for 12 days were preserved in the different packages, showing no difference regarding the use of the O2-absorbing sachet. The O2-absorbing sachet not influenced the quality of MP-sprouts during the stored (12 days). The best visual aspect was observed in PET package (with and without O2-absorbing sachet) being classified as excellent, without color change. The MP-sprouts also fulfilled the microbiological quality standards and presented 75.11% acceptability and 72.40% purchase intention.

Abstract
Silver nanoparticles (Ag-NPs) are attracting great attention for their use in various applications, along with methods for their green and facile production. In this study, we present a new eco-friendly approach based on the use of Euphorbia balsamifera extract (EBE) in the green synthesis of silver nanoparticles (Ag-NPs), which are then applied as a reducing and stabilizing agent for the efficient removal of water-based reactive dyes such as bromocresol green (BCG) and bromophenol blue (BPB). The as-prepared Ag-NPs are quasi-spherical in shape, with an average diameter of 20-34 nm. Diverse characterization methods, including X-ray diffractometry (XRD), Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FT-IR), scanning electron microscopy (SEM), transmission electron microscopy (TEM), and Brunauer-Emmett-Teller (BET) analysis, were used to analyze these Ag-NPs. The results reveal that water-soluble biomolecules in the Euphorbia balsamifera extract play an important role in the formation of the Ag-NPs. The removal of toxic dyes was studied under varied operational parameters such as Ag-NP dosage, initial dye concentration, pH, stirring time, and temperature. Under the optimum investigated conditions, nearly 99.12% and 97.25% of the bromocresol green and bromophenol blue dyes, respectively, were removed. Both BCG and BPB adsorption were found to adhere to pseudo-second-order kinetics (r22 = 1 and 0.995) and fit the Langmuir isotherm models well (R12 = 0.998 and 0.994), with maximal monolayer adsorption capacities of 20.40 and 41.03 mg/g, respectively. Their adsorption processes were observed to be intrinsically endothermic. The results confirm the potential of the Euphorbia balsamifera extract as a low-cost, nontoxic, and eco-friendly natural resource for the synthesis of Ag-NPs that may be useful in the remediation of hazardous dye-contaminated water sources.

Abstract
With the rapid development of nanotechnology, electrospun nanofiber membranes (ENM) application and preparation methods have attracted attention. With many advantages such as high specific surface area, obvious interconnected structure, and high porosity, ENM has been widely used in many fields, especially in water treatment, with more advantages. ENM solves the shortcomings of traditional means, such as low efficiency, high energy consumption, and difficulty in recycling, and it is suitable for recycling and treatment of industrial wastewater. This review begins with a description of electrospinning technology, describing the structure, preparation methods, and factors of common ENMs. At the same time, the removal of heavy metal ions and dyes by ENMs is introduced. The mechanism of ENM adsorption on heavy metal ions and dyes is chelation or electrostatic attraction, which has excellent adsorption and filtration ability for heavy metal ions and dyes, and the adsorption capacity of ENMs for heavy metal ions and dyes can be improved by increasing the metal chelation sites. Therefore, this technology and mechanism can be exploited to develop new, better, and more effective separation methods for the removal of harmful pollutants to cope with the gradually increasing water scarcity and pollution. Finally, it is hoped that this review will provide some guidance and direction for research on wastewater treatment and industrial production.

Abstract
A weak aspect of the electro-Fenton (EF) oxidation of contaminants is the dependence of the Fenton reaction on acidic pH values. Therefore, the rationale of this work was to develop a novel catalyst capable of promoting the EF oxidation process at near-neutral and basic pH values. In this framework, rhombohedral FeCO3 was synthesized hydrothermally and used as a catalyst in the EF oxidation of p-benzoquinone (BQ). The catalyst was characterized using various surface and spectroscopic methods. Moreover, the effects of applied current (100-500 mA), time (1-9 h), catalyst dosage (0.25-1.00 g L-1), and initial concentration of BQ (0.50-1.00 mM) on the total organic carbon removal efficiency were determined. The results indicated that a 400 mA current was sufficient for a 95% total organic carbon removal and that the increase in catalyst dosage had a positive effect on the mineralization of BQ. It was determined that at pH 3, FeCO3 behaved like a homogeneous catalyst by releasing Fe3+ ions; whereas, at the pH range of 5-7, it shifted to a homogeneous/heterogeneous catalyst. At pH 9, it worked solely as a heterogeneous catalyst due to the decrease of Fe ions passing into the solution. Finally, the spent catalyst did not undergo structural deformations after the EF treatment at higher pH values and could be regenerated and used several times.

Abstract
AbstractDeveloping drug delivery carriers for highly selective, controlled, and sustained release of the anti-cancer drugs is one of the crucial issues in the cancer strive. We herein report the synthesis of Fe3O4 (M) and SiO2 (S) nanoparticles and their nanocomposites with chitosan (CS) for high loading efficiency and subsequent release potentiality of Doxorubicin (DOX) anticancer drug. The as-synthesized nanostructures were characterized using Fourier transform infrared (FT-IR), X-ray diffraction (XRD), field emission scanning electron microscopy (FE-SEM), high-resolution transmission electron microscopy (HR-TEM), and thermal analysis techniques. The average crystallite sizes of the as-prepared M, S, CS/M, CS/S, and CS/M/S nanostructures were found to be 5, 15, 70, 22, and 29 nm, respectively. The loading and cumulative release of Doxorubicin for the produced nanostructures were examined, and the results exhibited loading efficacy of 71%, 95%, 96%, 79%, 17%, and 42% for M, S, CS, CS/M, CS/S, and CS/M/S nanostructures, respectively. The Doxorubicin releasing results revealed a promising cumulative release percentages at pH 4.2 and pH 5 compared with those at pH 7.4. At pH 4.2, the cumulative release percentages for DOX-M, DOX-S, DOX-CS, DOX/M, and DOX/CS/M/S were 94%, 96%, 92%, 95%, and 98%, respectively. While the corresponding percentages at pH 5 were 97%, 90%, 46%, 43%, and 70%. The percentage for DOX-CS/S was 60% at pH 5, though. The in-vitro cytotoxicity of M-DOX, CS-DOX, and M/CS-DOX was explored against two human cancer cell lines (MCF-7 and Hep-G2) using SRB (Sulforhodamine B) assay. The DOX-loaded M/CS exhibited the highest cytotoxicity and its IC50 values were 2.65 and 2.25 μg/mL against Hep-G2 and MCF-7 cell lines, respectively, compared to the corresponding values of 5.1 and 4.5 μg/mL for free DOX. The results indicated that M/CS nanocomposite is a good candidate as drug delivery nano-carrier for the Doxorubicin anti-cancer drug.

Abstract
The synthetic strategies of achieving low-cost and high-performance nanofibers are of great significance in the field of catalysis and detection. In this work, a series of electrospun α-Fe2O3 nanofibers with hollow structure were prepared via combination technology of electrospinning, hydrothermal synthesis, and controlled calcination process. Especially, the influences of the crystal structure and morphology on the comprehensive properties of nanofibers have been explored in detail. The results indicated that α-Fe2O3 nanofibers could be obtained via the calcination at 600-800 °C. Rice-like α-Fe2O3 particles were observed to assemble a stable exoskeleton, supporting a robust tubular cavity. And this tubular structure turned gradually into groove-like structure as the calcination temperature increased, accompanied by tunable crystallization, specific surface area and magnetic property. Finally, combined with series of validation tests, including dye decolorization, electrochemical detection of trace cadmium ions and Fenton degradation of polyvinyl alcohol, the resultant α-Fe2O3 nanofibers have been demonstrated to show the potential application prospects.

Abstract
A cationic microporous composite polymer (120-TMA@Fe) bearing free exchangeable chloride anions alongside easy magnetic separation was crafted through post-polymerization structure modulation. The precursor polymer 120-Cl was synthesized via an "external cross-linking" strategy in a straightforward one-pot Friedel-Crafts reaction. Subsequently, a cationic network accommodating magnetic Fe3O4 nanoparticles, viz., 120-TMA@Fe was fabricated through chemical modifications. 120-TMA@Fe displayed excellent adsorption proficiency both in terms of rapid kinetics and maximum uptake capacity when screened for a wide range of organic micropollutants of various categories. Amongst the tested pollutants, including anionic dyes, aromatic models, plastic components, and pharmaceuticals, 120-TMA@Fe illustrated exceptional performance in removing all of these model pollutants with adsorption equilibrium reaching within only 5 min. The Langmuir adsorption isotherm model determined the theoretical maximum uptake capacity (qmax,e) of 120-TMA@Fe to be 357 mg g-1 for methyl orange dye, 555 mg g-1 for plasticizer bisphenol A, and 285 mg g-1 for antibiotic ibuprofen. Additionally, 120-TMA@Fe showed unaltered performance upon harsh chemical treatment as well as in complex real-world samples. The potency of 120-TMA@Fe was further supported by its outstanding regeneration performance up to 10 cycles.

Controls on the Formation and Stability of Siderite (FeCO3) and Chukanovite (Fe2(CO3)(OH)2) in Reducing Environment. MINERALS 2020. Abstract
The formation of ferrous carbonate mineral is a significant geochemical reaction linked to iron and carbon cycling in the sedimentary environment. However, knowledge of the controlling factors and conditions for the mineral formation is limited. Two types of ferrous carbonate mineral, siderite (FeCO3) and chukanovite (Fe2(CO3)(OH)2) were synthesized under a FeCl2–NaHCO3 system with various concentration ranges (10–100 mmolal) and ratios (Fe:Dissolved inorganic carbon (DIC) = 1:1, X:50, and 50:X) to verify the concentration limit and control species for the formation of those minerals. The mineralogy of filtered precipitates at the reaction time of 1 week and 1 month were identified by X-ray diffraction (XRD), and scanning/transmission electron microscopic (S/TEM) analyses were applied for direct identification of the synthesized siderite and chukanovite at various conditions. A semi-quantitative calculation to estimate siderite proportion (siderite/[siderite + chukanovite]) in the precipitates was carried out using peak intensity ratios of siderite (d104 [2θ = 32.02°]) and chukanovite (d211 [2θ = 33.98°]) from XRD profiles. The framboids or trigonal-rhombohedron crystals and flaky rosette-shaped minerals were identified in SEM analysis. In addition, the chemical compositions of Fe and C of framboid (Fe:C = 1:1.01) and flaky mineral (1:2.04) were identified as siderite and chukanovite, respectively. The formation of siderite was predominated over chukanovite in 50 mmolal (both Fe and DIC) or higher conditions (siderite proportion = 49–100%). The estimated siderite proportion increased (27–100%) as DIC concentration increased (15–100 mmolal) in conditions of varying ratios of iron and DIC (50:X), indicating that DIC is a decisive factor in siderite formation. The increase in the reaction time promotes the siderite proportion increase, so that chukanovite may be dissolved and re-precipitated as siderite for the long-term reaction, except in the enriched DIC condition (Fe:DIC = 15:50). This study demonstrates that various conditions, not limited to the concentrations or reaction time, may affect the geochemical pathways of carbonate mineral formations.

RSC Adv 2020; 10:25567-25585. Abstract
We herein have developed a mild approach for the fabrication of glauconite clay (G)-modified chitosan (CS) nanocomposites by the combination of a simple blending and crosslinking method. The chitosan was modified with ethylenediaminetetraacetic acid (EDTA), glutaraldehyde (GL), sodium dodecyl sulfate (SDS), and cetyltrimethyl ammonium bromide (CTAB). The as-prepared composites were identified using Fourier-transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR), X-ray diffraction (XRD), field emission scanning electron microscopy (FE-SEM), nitrogen physical adsorption (BET), atomic absorption spectrophotometry (AA), and thermal gravimetric analysis (TGA). The adsorption activities of the as-prepared materials were assessed for the removal of fluoride ions from aqueous media using a batch technique. Raw glauconite (G), GL-CS/G, SDS-CS/G, EDTA-GL-CS/G, and CTAB-CS/G adsorbents displayed maximum adsorption capacity values of 1.15, 4.31, 4.55, 6.90, and 9.03 mg g−1, respectively. The adsorption results were well described by employing the pseudo-second-order kinetic and Langmuir isotherm models. The estimated thermodynamic constants indicated that the F− ion adsorption was a spontaneous, physisorption process. Furthermore, the modified chitosan adsorbents are good candidates for the adsorptive elimination of F− ions from aqueous solutions, according to their reusability, high stability, good adsorption capacity, and applicability for actual field water samples. We herein have developed a mild approach for the fabrication of glauconite clay (G)-modified chitosan (CS) nanocomposites by the combination of a simple blending and crosslinking method.![]()

Abstract
In this research, a novel magnetic cobalt ion imprinted adsorbent (Co(II)-MIIP) was synthesized by use of magnetic SBA-15 core-shell. It was functionalized by dithizone, and after identification by various techniques was used for removal of cobalt from aquatic systems. The uptake of cobalt proceeded very fast and achieved to equilibration within 5 min at which 74 mg g-1 of cobalt was adsorbed at pH = 8 with adsorbent dose of 0.15 g. The ion imprinted sorbent exhibited good selectivity towards cobalt ions. Separation and recovery of the used sorbent was carried out respectively by use of magnetic field and by use of HNO3 (0.1 M), and 85% of the initial capacity was obtained after seven 7 regeneration cycles. Different isotherm models, and error analysis were used to evaluate the experimental data. Thermodynamic, and kinetic evaluations showed that sorption process was endothermic, and described by second order kinetic model (R2 > 0.99). The equilibrium was established within five min.

Abstract
In this study, Fe2O3 (hematite) nanoparticles with different crystallite sizes (40-59 nm) were synthesized from Egyptian insecticide cans using the combustion method. The organic fuels were urea, glycine, L-alanine, and L-valine. Fe2O3 nanoparticles were characterized utilizing different devices such as BET, PL, FT-IR, XRD, HR-TEM, FE-SEM, UV-Vis, and DTG. Crystal violet (CV) and methylene blue (MB) dyes were efficiently removed from aqueous solution by photocatalytic degradation under UV irradiation in the presence of Fe2O3 and H2O2. The % degradation of 50 mL crystal violet or methylene blue dye (20 mg/L) using 0.1 g Fe2O3 in the presence of H2O2 was 100% after 30 or 40 min, respectively. Also, the degradation processes are fitted well with the first order model. Besides, the photocatalytic activity of Fe2O3 unaltered even after it was reused three times. Hence, the synthesized Fe2O3 nanoparticles can be considered a promising and efficient photocatalyst for the degradation of crystal violet and methylene blue dyes.
