Investigation of structural, morphological and magnetic properties of nanostructured strontium hexaferrite through co-precipitation technique: Impacts of annealing temperature and Fe/Sr ratio

M-type strontium hexaferrite (SrM) were successfully synthesized from Sr²⁺ and Fe³⁺ precursor salt through co-precipitation technique. Different higher sintering temperatures (800-1000 °C) were used to get the desired SrM with variation of Fe³⁺/Sr²⁺ mole ratio as well. The characterization of SrM and its properties were investigated using modern instrumental techniques viz. X-ray diffraction (XRD), Fourier Transform Infrared Spectrometer, Scanning Electron Microscopy, Vibrating Sample Magnetometer, UV-Visible NIR Spectrometer, Impedance Analyzer and Thermal Conductivity Meter. The phase of the synthesized SrM were confirmed by comparing the XRD patterns with the standard ICDD data and Reitvelt Refinement for the SrM having Fe³⁺/Sr²⁺ ratio 10 and SrM with distinct annealing temperature were performed. The structural parameters, particle size (75 nm-318 nm) and shape of the as prepared samples were changed with calcination temperature as well as mole ratio. The saturation magnetization (73.77-24.27 emu/g), coercivity (3732.28-642.10 Oe) and remanant magnetization (39.15-8.86 emu/g) were varied with calcination temperature and composition. The dielectric properties, optical properties and thermophysical properties were measured for the SrM keeping Fe³⁺/Sr²⁺ ratio 10 calcined at 1000 °C. The synthesized SrM can be applied in magnetic recording media and as photocatalyst due to its low coercivity (2764.48 Oe), high saturation magnetization (73.77 emu/g) and low band gap energy (Eg-2.04 eV) respectively.

Microwave synthesized strontium hexaferrite 2D sheets as versatile and efficient microwave catalysts for degradation of organic dyes and antibiotics

Microwave catalysis is extremely lucrative due to prompt mineralization and superior efficiency. Ideal microwave catalysts should possess crystalline nature, large surface area, room temperature ferromagnetic, high dielectric properties apart from structural stability at elevated temperature. In the present article, the candidature of microwave synthesized strontium hexaferrite 2D sheets (2D SFO) has been explored as microwave catalysts for the degradation of a host of organic dyes and antibiotics. Malachite green (MG) and nile blue A (NB) in particular exhibited 99.8% and 97.6% degradation, respectively. Degradation reaction is established to follow pseudo-second-order kinetics. Total organic carbon (TOC) measurements hint at 52% and 60% mineralization for MG and NB, respectively. Liquid chromatography-mass spectroscopy (LCMS) measurements indicate the reaction pathways via intermediates and eventual mineralization to CO₂ and H₂O. Mott-Schottky measurements along with scavenger tests hint that both hydroxyl and superoxide radicals participate in the reaction. Having superior efficiency apart from the versatile nature of the 2D SFO microwave catalyst, the present research will guide to the emergence of microwave catalysis as a new technology.

Triple Layer Tungsten Trioxide, Graphene, and Polyaniline Composite Films for Combined Energy Storage and Electrochromic Applications

Different polyaniline (PANI)-based hybrid films were successfully prepared by electro-polymerizing aniline monomers onto pre-spin-coated indium tin oxide (ITO) glass slides with WO₃, graphene, or WO₃/graphene films. Comparing with pristine PANI, the shifts of the characteristic peaks of PANI-based nanocomposites in UV-visible absorption spectra (UV-vis) and Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FT-IR) indicate the chemical interaction between the PANI matrix and the nanofillers, which is also confirmed by the scanning electron microscope (SEM) images. Corresponding coloration efficiencies were obtained for the WO₃/PANI (40.42 cm² C^-1), graphene/PANI (78.64 cm² C^-1), and WO₃/graphene/PANI (67.47 cm² C^-1) films, higher than that of the pristine PANI film (29.4 cm² C^-1), suggesting positive effects of the introduced nanofillers on the electrochromic performance. The areal capacitances of the films were observed to increase following the order as bare WO₃ < WO₃/graphene < pristine PANI < WO₃/PANI < graphene/PANI < WO₃/graphene/PANI films from both the cyclic voltammogram (CV) and galvanostatic charge-discharge (GCD) results. The enhanced energy storage and electrochromic performances of the PANI-based nanocomposite films can be attributed to the capacitance contributions of the introduced nanofillers, increased PANI amount, and the rougher morphology due to the embedment of the nanofillers into the PANI matrix. This extraordinary energy storage and electrochromic performances of the WO₃/graphene/PANI film make it a promising candidate for combined electrochromic and energy storage applications.

Optimization of magnetic properties in fast consolidated SrFe12O19 nanocrystallites

The magnetic properties of SrFe₁₂O₁₉ nanocrystallites produced by hydrothermal synthesis and consolidated by Spark Plasma Sintering (SPS) were optimized by varying the compaction parameters: sintering time, sintering temperature, uniaxial pressure or pre-compaction in a magnetic field. Highly textured compacts with a high degree of crystallite alignment were produced. Qualitative and quantitative textural information was obtained based on X-ray diffraction pole figure measurements. The optimum sintering conditions, relating the degree of alignment and bulk magnetic properties, were identified based on the resulting magnetic properties. It was found that one must strike a balance between the degree of crystallite alignment for high saturation magnetisation and coercivity (H _c) to gain the highest energy product (BH_max). It was found that the coercive field drops when the crystallite alignment increases. This was particularly pronounced in the case of magnetically pre-aligned powders prior to SPS, where H _c and BH_max decreased as the pellets became increasingly textured. The best BH_max value of 29(4) kJ m^-3 was found for the sample sintered at 950 °C for 2 minutes with an applied pressure of 100 MPa for a powder pre-aligned in an applied field of 0.55 T. The results presented here show the potential of SPS consolidation of SrFe₁₂O₁₉ with high relative densities and emphasize the effect of the degree of alignment on the decrease of coercive field and its influence on the magnetic performance.
