Abstract
Heavy metals are crucial carcinogenic agents threatening the environment and living habituates. Among them, arsenic (As) is an important metalloid that is categorized as a group I toxic carcinogen. Roxarsone (RX) is an organoarsenic antibiotic compound primarily used as a veterinarian drug and growth promoter for poultry animals. The extensive usage of RX increased the accumulation of As in living beings and the ecosystem. Therefore, we have prepared an electrochemical sensor based on 3D bismuth oxybromide with 2D selenium-doped graphitic carbon nitride (BOB/SCN) electrocatalyst for the rapid detection of RX. The elemental and structural details were thoroughly investigated with several spectroscopic techniques. The electrochemical properties were measured by impedance and voltammetric measurements. The electrocatalytic behavior toward the RX was estimated with different voltammetric methods. Therefore, our BOB/SCN-based electrochemical sensor demonstrated a low detection limit (2.3 nM), low quantification value (7.7 nM), optimal sensitivity (0.675 μA μM-1 cm-2), and good linear ranges (0.01-77 and 77-857 μM). Additionally, this sensor showed good electrochemical performance and was applied to monitor the RX in various real samples with remarkable recoveries. Based on these results, our BOB/SCN sensor is a promising electrochemical platform for determining RX.

Abstract
Photocatalysis, as an alternative for treating persistent water pollutants, holds immense promise. However, limitations hinder sustained treatment and recycling under varying light conditions. This comprehensive review delves into the novel paradigm of metal and non-metal doping to overcome these challenges. It begins by discussing the fundamental principles of photocatalysis and its inherent limitations. Understanding these constraints is crucial for developing effective strategies. Band gap narrowing by metal and non-metal doping modifies the band gap, enabling visible-light absorption. Impurity energy levels and oxygen vacancies influenced the doping energy levels and surface defects. Interfacial electron transfer and charge carrier recombination are the most important factors that impact overall efficiency. The comparative analysis of nanomaterials are reviewed on various, including nanometal oxides, nanocarbon materials, and advanced two-dimensional structures. The synthesis process are narratively presented, emphasizing production yields, selectivity, and efficiency. The review has potential applications in the environment for efficient pollutant removal and water purification, economic cost-effective and scalable production and technological advancement catalyst design, in spite of its challenges in material stability, synthesis methods and optimizing band gaps. The novelty of the review paper is on the proposal of a new paradigm of heterojunctions of doped metal and non-metal photocatalysts to promise highly efficient water treatment. This review bridges the gap between fundamental research and practical applications, offering insights into tailored nano photocatalysts.

Facile fabrication of B-rGO/ZnFe 2O 4 p-n heterojunction-based S-scheme exciton engineering for photocatalytic Cr(vi) reduction: kinetics, influencing parameters and detailed mechanism. Abstract
The fabrication of p-n heterostructures was found to be an effective strategy to stimulate the interfacial exciton shipment and photocatalytic reactions. Herein, we report a p-n junction synthesized by combining p-type boron-doped reduced graphene oxide (B-rGO) with an n-type ZnFe2O4 semiconducting material for Cr(vi) reduction under LED light irradiation. The band structures of ZnFe2O4 and B-rGO were evaluated using UV-vis spectroscopy, Mott-Schottky (M-S) plots and photocurrent studies. The results indicated that ZnFe2O4 and B-rGO exhibit a conventional type-II charge transfer, and the Fermi-level (E F) of ZnFe2O4 was found to be much lower than that of the B-rGO material. Based on these investigations, an S-scheme charge-migration pathway was suggested and demonstrated by the photocatalytic activity and nitroblue tetrazolium (NBT) chloride experiments. The optimal 2 wt% B-rGO/ZnFe2O4 heterojunction exhibits the highest photocatalytic performance, i.e. 84% of Cr(vi) reduction in 90 min under 20 W LED light irradiation with a rate constant of 0.0207 min-1, which was 4.6- and 2.15-fold greater than that of ZnFe2O4 (ZnF) and B-rGO, respectively. The intimate interfacial contact, excellent photon-harvesting properties, effective exciton segregation and availability of active electrons are some factors responsible for enhanced photocatalytic Cr(vi) reduction. In order to fulfill the demand of applied waste-water management, the influences of various photocatalyst amounts, pH values and co-exiting ions on photocatalytic activities were evaluated. Finally, this work provides a way to fabricate S-scheme-based p-n-heterostructures for photocatalytic wastewater treatment.

Abstract
Most of previous photocatalysts contain metal species, thus exploring a metal-free photocatalyst is still challenging. A metal-free photocatalyst has an advantage for the development of economical and non-toxic artificial photosynthesis system and/or environmental purification applications. In this study, rhombohedral boron monosulfide (r-BS) was synthesized by a high-pressure solid-state reaction, and its photocatalytic properties were investigated. r-BS absorbed visible light, and its photocurrent action spectrum also exhibited visible light responsivity. The r-BS evolved hydrogen (H2) from water under ultraviolet (UV) as well as under visible light irradiation, and its internal quantum efficiency reached 1.8% under UV light irradiation. In addition to the H2 evolution reaction, the r-BS photocatalyst drove carbon dioxide (CO2) reduction and dye oxidation reactions under UV irradiation. Although bare r-BS was not so stable under strong light irradiation in water, cocatalyst modification improved its stability. These results indicate that r-BS is a new class of non-metal photocatalyst applicable for H2 production, CO2 reduction, and environmental purification reactions.

Abstract
Decoration of α-FeOOH nanorods over PAN nanofibers was performed using the electrospinning technique. The as-designed decorated nanofibers were characterized using various techniques such as wide-angle powder X-ray diffraction (XRD), field emission scanning electron microscopy (FESEM), high-resolution transmission electron microscopy (HRTEM), Fourier transform infrared (FTIR) spectroscopy, UV-vis spectrophotometry (UV-vis), thermogravimetry analysis (TGA), N2 adsorption-desorption isotherm (BET), and X-ray photoelectron spectrometry (XPS). α-FeOOH NRs were decorated uniformly over PAN fibers, as observed from its morphological investigation, which shows novelty. 1D α-FeOOH nanorods with PAN nanofibers have not been studied for photocatalytic characteristics. No literature mentions that α-FeOOH nanorods coated in PAN NFs act as photocatalysts to degrade hazardous azo dyes. α-FeOOH nanorods on PAN NFs inhibit aggregation and increase dye binding, boosting photocatalytic performance. PAN/α-FeOOH NFs have a maximal specific surface area with a reduced bandgap than α-FeOOH NRs. PAN/α-FeOOH nanofibers showed excellent photocatalytic activity for the degradation of Trypan blue (TB) (120 min, 99.7%) and Eriochrome black T (EBT) dyes (160 min, 97.6%), respectively, under solar light irradiation. PAN/α-FeOOH NFs have the potential to be used in the degradation of azo dyes and the treatment of wastewater due to their low energy requirements and versatility.

Abstract
The removal of organic dyes has attracted attention by adsorption-photocatalytic synergetic process in water treatment technology. Three novel ZnCo-LDHs/g-C3N4 were successfully prepared for the first time by layered construction technique through the hydrolysis of triethanolamine in this paper. They exhibited high specific surface area which facilitates the adsorption of sunset yellow (SY) from solution to catalyst surface. All the target pollutant dyes are very effectively removed by the three ZnCo-LDHs/g-C3N4 composites through synergetic effect of adsorption and photocatalysis process under UV irradiation (λ = 365 nm). The order of synergistic degradation effect for SY is as follows: ZnCo-LDHs/g-C3N4-3 (99.6%) > ZnCo-LDHs/g-C3N4-2 (99.5%) > ZnCo-LDHs/g-C3N4-1 (99.3%) > pure g-C3N4 (77.4%) > pure ZnCo-LDHs (44.2.6%) at the initial concentration of 75 mg L-1. ZnCo-LDHs/g-C3N4-3 has the largest k value (0.0284 min-1) in SY degradation, which is 2.8 times that of g-C3N4. ZnCo-LDHs/g-C3N4-3 is a very promising adsorption-photocatalyst for the removal of SY from wastewater. The electron spin resonance experiments demonstrate that OH·, 1O2, and O2- are the dominant active species and oxides SY together. This result demonstrates that the three ZnCo-LDHs/g-C3N4 have practical applications as efficient adsorption-photocatalytic materials and also provides a synergetic strategy for the removal of SY wastewater.

Abstract
Ciprofloxacin (CIP) is a third-generation quinolone antimicrobial with broad-spectrum antimicrobial activity, and is not fully metabolized in the human body, resulting in more than 70% of CIP being excreted into water as a prodrug. In this study, g-C3N4/BiOCl heterojunction structure composites were prepared to study the degradation effect of ciprofloxacin (CIP) under photocatalytic conditions. The results showed that CIP at 10 mg L-1 was best degraded after 90 min at 0.3 g L-1 g-C3N4/BiOCl-2, pH of 5.8 and PS dosing of 1 mM. The quenching experiments and electron spin resonance spectroscopy (ESR) confirmed that ˙OH, ˙SO4 - and h+ played a major role. After the photocatalytic degradation of this reaction system, the biological toxicity of CIP was effectively controlled. This material is stable and the CIP removal rate remained above 80% after four cycles of experiments.

Abstract
Rapid industrialization and overpopulation have led to energy shortages and environmental pollution, accelerating research to solve the issues. Currently, metal-free photocatalysts have gained the intensive attention of scientists due to their environmental-friendly nature and ease of preparation. It was noticed that g-C3N4 (GCN) consists of a few outstanding properties that could be used for various applications such as water treatment and clean energy production. Nonetheless, bare GCN contains several drawbacks such as high charge recombination, limited surface area, and low light sensitivity. Several solutions have been applied to overcome GCN limitations. Co-doping, tri-doping, and rare-earth-doping can be effective solutions to modify the GCN structure and improve its performance toward photocatalysis. This review highlights the function of multi-elemental and rare-earth dopants in GCN structure, mechanisms, and performance for photocatalytic applications as well as the advantages of co-doping, tri-doping, and rare-earth-doping of GCN. This review summarizes the different roles of dopants in addressing the limitations of GCN. Therefore, this article critically reviewed how multi-elemental and rare-earth-doping affect GCN properties and enhanced photoactivity for various applications.

Abstract
Herein, tin(IV) sulfide (SnS2) and multiwalled carbon nanotube (MWCNT) composites are fabricated via a simple solution-mixing method in a hydrothermal reactor. SnS2 is closely coupled to the MWCNT surface, thus forming a coaxial nanostructure. Examination by X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy and scanning transmission electron microscopy indicates that the strong interface between SnS2 and the MWCNTs in the composite material is due to the formation of Sn-O and Sn-S bonds. In addition, an examination of the temperature-dependent thermoelectric (TE) properties demonstrates that the SnS2-MWCNT hybrid composite with 3 wt % MWCNTs exhibits the maximum power factor of ∼91.34 μW/(m·K2) at 500 K, which is ∼50 times larger than that of the pristine SnS2. These results highlight the fabrication and enhanced TE properties of hybrid composites via the coupling of SnS2 and MWCNTs.

Abstract
Environmental protection and the necessity of green energy have become fundamental concerns for humankind. However, rapid recombination of photoexcitons in semiconductors often gets in the path of photocatalytic reactions and annoyingly suppresses the photocatalytic activity. In this study, a polypyrrole (PPY)-supported step-scheme (S-scheme) ZnFe2O4@WO3-X (PZFW15) ternary composite was fabricated by a multistep process: hydrothermal and calcination processes, followed by polymerization. During the formation of the heterojunction, the oxygen vacancy (OV) on WO3-X promotes effective separation and increases the redox power of the photogenerated excitons via the built-in internal electric field of S-scheme pathways between ZnF and WO3-X. The successful construction of the S-scheme heterojunction was substantiated through X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy, experimental calculations, radical trapping experiment, and liquid electron spin resonance (ESR) characterization, whereas the existence of OVs was well confirmed by EPR and Raman analyses. Meanwhile, the PPY served as a supporter, and the polaron and bipolaron species of PPY acted as electron and hole acceptors, respectively, which further enhances the charge-carrier transmission and separation in the ternary PZFW15 photocatalyst. The designed ternary nanohybrid (PZFW15) displays outstanding gemifloxacin detoxification (95%, 60 min) and hydrogen generation (657 μmol h-1), i.e., 1.5 and 2.2 times higher than the normal S-scheme ZFW15 heterostructure and pure ZnFe2O4 (ZnF), respectively, with an apparent conversion efficiency of 4.92%. The ESR and trapping experiments indicate that the generated •OH and •O2 - radicals from the PZFW15 photocatalyst are responsible for gemifloxacin degradation. This unique PPY-supported S-scheme heterojunction is also beneficial for the enhanced electron-transfer rate and provides abundant active sites for photocatalytic reactions.

Abstract
The TiO2 semiconductor photocatalyst is in the limelight of sustainable energy research in recent years because of its beneficial properties. However, its wide band-gap and rapid exciton recombination rate makes it a lame horse, and reduces its photocatalytic efficiency. Recently, researchers have developed facile methods for lowering the band-gap, so that it captures a wide range of solar spectrum, but the efficiency is still way behind the target value. After the discovery of black titania (B-TiO2), the associated drawbacks of white TiO2 and its modified forms were addressed to a large extent because it not only absorbs photons in a broad spectral range (UV to IR region), but also modifies the structural and morphological features, along with the electronic properties of the material, significantly boosting the catalytic performance. Hence, B-TiO2 effectively converts solar energy into renewable chemical energy i.e. green fuel H2 that can ultimately satisfy the energy crisis and environmental pollution. However, the synthesis techniques involved are quite tedious and challenging. Hence, this review summarizes various preparation methods of B-TiO2 and the involved characterization techniques. It also discusses the different modification strategies adopted to improve the H2 evolution activity, and hopes that this review acts as a guiding tool for researchers working in this field.
