Ratiometric detection of p-nitrophenol and its derivatives using a dual-emissive neuron cell-like carbonized probe based on a ππ stacking quenching mechanism

A dually emissive MPA-CdTe QDs@N, S-GQD nanosensor for sensitive and selective detection of 4-nitrophenol using two turn-off signals

4-Nitrophenol (4-NP) is an extremely poisonous and carcinogenic phenol that poses serious health issues to humans. Therefore, it becomes highly demanded and urgent to determine 4-NP in water samples. In this study, we developed a facile and effective dually-emissive nanosensor containing simply mixed CdTe quantum dots (CdTe QDs) and N, S modified graphene quantum dots (N, S-GQDs) for 4-NP. The synthesized CdTe QDs and N, S-GQDs exhibited excitation-independent emission located at 540 nm and 420 nm, respectively. The nanosensor displayed two turn-off fluorescent signals when exposed to 4-NP. The degree of quenching varied depending on the excitation wavelength range used, which can be explained by the quenching phenomenon based on the inner filter effect (IFE). Moreover, analysis of the recorded excitation-emission matrix (EEM) data using the parallel factor analysis (PARAFAC) technique revealed a negative emission spectrum corresponding to non-emissive 4-NP. On the other hand, the species with no peak in fluorescence data had a negative spectrum as the PARAFAC emission loading. Under the optimized conditions, the CdTe QDs@GQD nanosensor achieved fast and highly sensitive detection of 4-NP within the concentration range of 0.0-30.0 μM, with a detection limit of 0.52 μΜ.

Synergism of Photo-Induced Electron Transfer and Aggregation-Induced Quenching Mechanisms for Highly Sensitive Detection of Silver Ion and Captopril

Carbon-based nanoprobes, with excellent physicochemical performance and biocompatibility, are a kind of ideal nanomaterial for biosensing. Herein, we designed and prepared novel oxygen-doped nitrogen-enrichment carbon nanoribbons (ONCNs) with an excellent optical performance and uniform morphology, which could be used as a dual-mode fluorescence probe for the detection of Ag⁺ ion and captopril (Ctl) based on the synergism of photo-induced electron transfer and aggregation-induced quenching mechanisms. By recording the changes in fluorescent intensities of ONCNs, the Ag⁺ ion and Ctl concentrations can be easily tested in real samples. The results displayed that two good linear relationships existed between the change in fluorescent intensity of ONCNs and the concentrations of Ag⁺ ion and Ctl in the ranges of 3 μM to 30 μM and 1 μM to 30 μM, with the detection limit of 0.78 µM and 74 nM, respectively. The proposed sensing platform has also been successfully applied for the Ctl analysis in commercial tablet samples based on its high selectivity, proving its value in practical applications.

Aggregation-induced emission monomer-based fluorescent molecularly imprinted poly(ionic liquid) synthesized by a one-pot method for sensitively detecting 4-nitrophenol

An aggregation-induced emission monomer-based fluorescent molecularly imprinted poly(ionic liquid) (AIE-FMIPIL) was synthesized for the first time with an AIE probe 4-(1,2,2-triphenylvinyl)phenyl acrylate (TPE), and an ionic liquid as dual functional monomers, and an ionic liquid as cross-linker. AIE-FMIPIL displayed a sphere-like shape and its average diameter was 410 nm. The absolute quantum yields of TPE and AIE-FMIPIL were 9.23% and 12.61%, respectively. The synergetic effect of TPE in the AIE-FMIPIL framework contributed to the higher quantum yield of AIE-FMIPIL. 4-Nitrophenol (4-NP) efficiently quenched AIE-FMIPIL with high fluorescence based on the Förster resonance energy transfer mechanism. The synthesized AIE-FMIPIL sensor was highly sensitive for 4-NP detection (linear range, 0.02-1.5 μM) in the optimal detection condition, with a low detection limit of 10 nM (S/N = 3). AIE-FMIPIL showed increased sensitivity and quenching efficiency compared with AIE-FMIP comprising a traditional monomer and cross-linker. AIE-FMIPIL exhibited selective binding to 4-NP because of the imprinted sites. AIE-FMIPIL was adopted to detect 4-NP in environmental samples.
