Abstract
A new and simple HPLC assay method was developed and validated for the determination of etamsylate in human plasma. After protein precipitation with 6% perchloric acid, satisfactory separation was achieved on a HyPURITY C18 column (250 mm × 4.6 mm, 5 μm) using a mobile phase comprising 20 mM sodium dihydrogen phosphate-2 hydrate (pH was adjusted to 3.5 by phosphoric acid) and acetonitrile at a ratio of 95:5 v/v. The elution was isocratic at ambient temperature with a flow rate of 0.75 ml/min. Allopurinol was used as internal standard. The calibration curve was linear over the range from 0.25 to 20 μg/ml (r (2) = 0.999). The limit of quantification for etamsylate in plasma was 0.25 μg/ml. The within day coefficient of variance (%CV) ranged from 3.9% to 10.2%, whereas the between-day %CV ranged from 3.1% to 8.7%. The assay method has been successfully used to estimate the pharmacokinetics of etamsylate after oral administration of a 500 mg tablet under fasting conditions to 24 healthy Egyptian human male volunteers. Various pharmacokinetic parameters including AUC0- t , AUC0-∞, C max, T max, t 1/2, MRT, Cl/F, and Vd/F were determined from plasma concentration-time profile of etamsylate.

Abstract
Ethamsylate, tramadol and lidocaine, partly excreted by the kidney, are generally used as hemostatic, analgesic and local anesthetic in surgery. We developed a simple and sensitive method for their simultaneous monitoring in human urine based on CE coupled with electrochemiluminescence detection by end-column mode. Under optimized conditions the proposed method yielded linear ranges from 5.0 x 10(-8) to 5.0 x 10(-5), 1.0 x 10(-7) to 1.0 x 10(-4) and 1.0 x 10(-7) to 1.0 x 10(-4) M with LODs of 8.0 x 10(-9) M (36 amol), 1.6 x 10(-8) M (72 amol) and 1.0 x 10(-8) M (45 amol) (S/N = 3) for ethamsylate, tramadol and lidocaine, respectively. The RSD for their simultaneous detection at 1.0 x 10(-6) M was 2.1, 2.8 and 3.2% (n = 7), respectively. For practical application an extraction step with ethyl acetate at pH 11 was performed to eliminate the influence of the sample ionic strength. The recoveries of ethamsylate, tramadol and lidocaine at different levels in human urine were between 87 and 95%. This method was used for simultaneous detection of ethamsylate, tramadol and lidocaine in clinic urine samples from two medicated patients. It was valuable in clinical and biochemical laboratories for monitoring these drugs for various purposes.

Abstract
A highly sensitive kinetic spectrophotometric method was developed for the determination of captopril (CPL) and ethamsylate (ESL) in pharmaceutical preparations and biological fluids. The method is based on a catalytic acceleration of the reaction between sodium azide and iodine in an aqueous solution. Concentration range of 0.1-1.5 microg ml(-1) for CPL and 0.3-3 microg ml(-1) for ESL was determined by measuring the decrease in the absorbance of iodine at 348 nm by a fixed time method. The decrease in absorbance after 5 min was markedly correlated to the concentration. The relative standard deviations obtained were 1.30 and 1.87 for CPL and ESL, respectively, in pure forms. Correlation coefficients were 0.9997 and 0.9999 for CPL and ESL, respectively. The detection limits were determined as (S/N = 3) were 20 ng ml(-1) for CPL and 50 ng ml(-1) for ESL. The proposed procedure was successively applied for the determination of both drugs in pharmaceutical preparations and in biological fluids.

Abstract
Strong chemiluminescence emission has been observed by mixing alkaline hydrolytic products of ethamsylate with Tween 80 in acidic rhodamine 6G solution. This phenomenon has been utilized to design a flow-injection chemiluminescence method for the determination of ethamsylate in a pharmaceutical preparation. Under the optimum conditions, the proposed procedure has a linear range between 0.05 and 2.0 microg ml(-1), with a detection limit of 0.02 microg ml(-1) for ethamsylate. The method was applied to the determination of ethamsylate in pharmaceutical preparations. The possible mechanism of this chemiluminescence reaction was proposed.

Abstract
This paper reviews the literature on analytical applications of flow injection (FI) techniques with chemiluminescence (CL) detection from 1995-1999. The focus is on the application of FI-CL to the quantitative determination of specific analytes in real sample matrices. Therefore, entries have been tabulated under the most appropriate application area, ie pharmaceutical, environmental, foods and beverages and biomedical, as defined by the matrix that has been analysed. Each table lists analytes alphabetically and gives details of the exact sample matrix, the limit of detection (as reported in the original paper) and comments on the CL reaction used.
