Abstract
Hidradenitis suppurativa (HS) is a chronic inflammatory follicular disease characterized by painful, recurrent, inflamed lesions most commonly occurring in the axillary, inguinal, and anogenital regions. HS can inflict immense physical and psychological impact on patients who suffer from this distressing disease. Management of HS generally requires combining various medical and procedural treatment modalities; however, the disease is often recalcitrant to conventional treatments. In light of recent evidence supporting the effectiveness of biologic agents in the treatment of HS, the Taiwanese Dermatological Association established an expert panel of nine dermatologists to develop consensus statements aimed to provide up-to-date evidence-based guidance in optimizing HS patient management in Taiwan. The recommendations described in the statements were summarized in a management algorithm in terms of general care, topical treatment, systemic treatment, and procedural treatment.

Intense pulsed light treatment for inflammatory skin diseases: a review. Lasers Med Sci 2022; 37:3085-3105. Abstract
Although intense pulsed light (IPL) has been commonly used in the field of medical cosmetics in recent years, the exact outcomes of IPL in the treatment of inflammatory skin diseases remain unclear. To assess the clinical evidence for the use of IPL in the treatment of various inflammatory skin diseases and propose evidence-based recommendations, we searched for relevant publications in the PubMed and Web of Science databases and provided updated information. The inflammatory skin diseases treated with IPL consisted of acne vulgaris, rosacea, psoriasis, hidradenitis suppurativa (HS), atopic dermatitis (AD), Riehl's melanosis, lupus erythematosus, cutaneous sarcoidosis, pilonidal cysts, and pigmented actinic lichen planus (PALP). The efficacy of IPL treatment for these inflammatory skin diseases was described and evaluated. Forty-two studies were included to provide this assessment. The evidence suggests that IPL can effectively and safely improve acne vulgaris and rosacea (recommendation grade B). For other described inflammatory skin diseases, IPL can be used as a tentative or supplementary treatment (recommendation grade C and D). The main complications include transitory erythema, edema, and pain, with the possibility of hyperpigmentation, blisters, and a burning sensation in some individuals.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Hidradenitis suppurativa (HS) is a chronic inflammatory disease of the skin folds, which requires more outpatient treatment alternatives. Although the disease was previously treated using surgery, new treatment modalities now allow the effective treatment of mild and moderate cases in an ambulatory care setting. AIM OF STUDY Local and instrument-based therapies are presented and their efficacy and safety profiles are highlighted. MATERIALS AND METHODS Clinical evidence for each therapeutic modality are presented and current treatment developments are analyzed based on the future treatment of HS patients in Germany. RESULTS Effective treatments for outpatient care of HS patients include topical clindamycin, resorcinol, and intralesional corticosteroids. New devices such as LAight therapy (combining intense pulsed light [IPL] with radiofrequency) are available, which can be used as monotherapy or adjunct therapy in combination with systemic treatment and/or surgery for the management of HS. CONCLUSION Evidence-based use of local treatments can provide more efficient outpatient and self-administered strategies, which improves the quality of life of HS patients, especially for patients with recurrent mild and moderate disease.

Abstract
Hidradenitis suppurativa (HS) is a chronic inflammatory skin disorder that may be treated with non-ablative light-based devices; however, no systematic reviews on the topic exist to date. We conducted a systematic review and meta-analysis to determine efficacy of non-ablative light-based devices in treating HS. Specifically, a systematic review was conducted using MEDLINE, EMBASE, Web of Science and CINAHL. We analyzed the use of non-ablative light-based devices in the treatment of HS. At least two investigators performed title/abstract review and data extraction. Meta-analysis was conducted using comprehensive meta-analysis software. 5 RCTs and 11 case reports/series were included (n = 211 unique patients). No observational studies were found. For Nd:YAG laser, meta-analysis of 3 RCTs reported improvement in modified HS Lesion Area and Severity Index (HS-LASI) when compared to control subjects. In addition, three case reports/series reported HS-LASI, Physician Global Assessment (PGA) scores and number-of-lesion improvements in treated patients. For intense pulsed light (IPL), two RCTs reported HS-LASI and Dermatology Life Quality Index (DLQI) score improvements. For Alexandrite laser, one case report showed lesion improvement. In conclusion, meta-analysis of Nd:YAG laser in HS patients suggests significant improvement in HS-LASI scores. For IPL, evidence is limited, but suggests improvement in HS-LASI and DLQI scores. For Alexandrite laser, evidence precludes conclusions. Given small sample sizes and inconsistent reporting scales, larger RCTs are required to better determine the efficacy of these modalities in treating HS.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Hidradenitis suppurativa (HS) is a chronic painful skin disease that severely impairs patients' quality of life. While high-quality trials of HS therapies remain limited, medical knowledge of best treatment practices is rapidly evolving, leading to the recent publication of multiple international treatment guidelines for HS. SUMMARY This review compares international HS treatment guidelines, describes evidence for effectiveness of common and emerging HS therapies, and provides guidance for integrating evidence-based HS care into practice. Although over 50 medical and procedural treatments are mentioned across international HS guidelines, only adalimumab and infliximab have grade B/weak recommendation or higher across all major guidelines. This review describes the appropriate patient selection and effectiveness of the most commonly used medical and procedural treatments for HS. It also includes recommendations for counseling, dosing, and duration of medical therapies as well as procedure videos for the practicing dermatologist.

Abstract
The treatment of hidradenitis suppurativa (HS) has remained challenging because of the many knowledge gaps regarding etiology. However, recent studies into the pathogenesis of HS have enabled the investigation of newer therapies. The second article in this continuing medical education series reviews the evidence for established therapies for HS, including anti-inflammatories, antibiotics, and surgery. New and emerging therapies that specifically target cytokines involved in HS pathogenesis will be covered. The potential therapeutic roles of anticytokine therapies, including both the expanded application of existing molecules as well as the specific development of novel therapies for HS are discussed. With increased attention on HS and with numerous clinical trials currently underway, we hope that the variety of treatment options for HS will be expanded.
