Abstract
Diabetes-related pathophysiological alterations and various female reproductive difficulties were common in pregnant women with gestational diabetes mellitus (GDM), who had 21.1 million live births. Preeclampsia (PE), which increases maternal and fetal morbidity and mortality, affects approximately 3%-5% of pregnancies worldwide. Nevertheless, it is unclear what triggers PE and GDM to develop. Therefore, the development of novel moderator therapy approaches is a crucial advancement. Chemokines regulate physiological defenses and maternal-fetal interaction during healthy and disturbed pregnancies. Chemokines regulate immunity, stem cell trafficking, anti-angiogenesis, and cell attraction. CXC chemokines are usually inflammatory and contribute to numerous reproductive disorders. Fractalkine (CX3CL1) may be membrane-bound or soluble. CX3CL1 aids cell survival during homeostasis and inflammation. Evidence reveals that CXC and CX3CL1 chemokines and their receptors have been the focus of therapeutic discoveries for clinical intervention due to their considerable participation in numerous biological processes. This review aims to give an overview of the functions of CXC and CX3CL1 chemokines and their receptors in the pathophysiology of PE and GDM. Finally, we examined stimulus specificity for CXC and CX3CL1 chemokine expression and synthesis in PE and GDM and preclinical and clinical trials of CXC-based PE and GDM therapies.

Neuroserpin: A potential biomarker for early-onset severe preeclampsia. Immunobiology 2023; 228:152339. Abstract
Preeclampsia is a hypertensive disease of pregnancy associated with intense inflammatory and pro-coagulant responses. Neuroserpin is a serine protease inhibitor that has been involved in neurological and immune processes and has not yet been investigated in preeclampsia. Herein, we evaluated neuroserpin levels in association with other inflammatory mediators (IL-17A, IL-33, and CXCL-16) during severe preeclampsia. The mediators' plasma levels were measured by immunoassays in 24 pregnant women with severe preeclampsia (early preeclampsia: N = 17, late preeclampsia: N = 7), 34 normotensive pregnant women, and 32 non-pregnant women. In general, pregnancy was associated with higher levels of neuroserpin, IL-17A, IL-33, and CXCL-16 than the non-pregnant state. However, this increase was attenuated in pregnancies complicated by severe preeclampsia. Although neuroserpin levels did not differ between normotensive pregnant women and pregnant women with severe preeclampsia, neuroserpin levels tended to be lower in early-onset than in late-onset severe preeclampsia. There were positive correlations between neuroserpin and IL-17A, neuroserpin and CXCL-16, and IL-17A and CXCL-16 levels in women with severe preeclampsia. In addition, although the risk for developing severe preeclampsia was higher in older women in this study, maternal age did not significantly influence the mediators' levels, nor their correlations in the preeclampsia group. In summary, our data suggest that neuroserpin might be a potential biomarker for early-onset severe preeclampsia and, that the imbalance among neuroserpin, IL-17A, IL-33, and CXCL-16 levels may be associated with the pathogenesis of preeclampsia, regardless of the maternal age.

Abstract
Hypertensive disorders in pregnancy (HDIP) represent one of the leading causes of maternal and perinatal mortality. microRNA (miR)-25-3p plays roles in HDIP diagnosis. We explored miR-25-3p clinical roles in HDIP. HDIP patients [gestation hypertension (GH), mild preeclampsia (mPE), and severe preeclampsia (sPEz)], and normal pregnant women serving as the control were enrolled. Serum miR-25-3p expression patterns were detected by RT-qPCR. The diagnostic efficacy of miR-25-3p on HDIP was analyzed with a ROC curve. Patients were assigned to the high/low miR-25-3p expression groups according to the median value of miR-25-3p expression. All patients were followed up until delivery, and gestational weeks and pregnancy outcomes were recorded at delivery. The effects of miR-25-3p expression on pregnancy outcomes of GH, mPE, and sPEz patients were analyzed by Kaplan-Meier. miR-25-3p expression in GH, mPE, and sPEz patients was up-regulated. In sPEz patients, systolic and diastolic blood pressure, 24-h urine protein, AST, ALT, GGT, and SCr were increased, and PLT was decreased in the high expression group. High miR-25-3p expression was associated with an increased risk of adverse pregnancy outcomes in PE patients. Collectively, high miR-25-3p expression could aid HDIP diagnosis, and associated with an increased risk of adverse pregnancy outcomes in PE patients.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE This systematic review and meta-analysis study was performed to assess the potential association between interleukin-1 beta (IL-1β) single nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) (rs1143634 and rs16944) and interleukin-6 (IL-6) SNP (rs1800795) and pre-eclampsia (PE). METHODS A comprehensive literature search was conducted in the international search engines and databases, including MEDLINE (via PubMed), Scopus, and Web of Science (ISI) up to 9 March 2021. After retrieving relevant articles, data extraction was performed by four authors independently. Pooled ORs and corresponding 95% CIs were used to evaluate the association between IL-1β and IL-6 polymorphisms and PE risk. Cochran's Q test was used to check heterogeneity, and the I2 index was calculated for measuring the heterogeneity between the estimations of included studies. RESULTS After reviewing fully published studies, 21 studies were included in this study based on the eligibility criteria. Our results showed that rs16944 and rs1143634 of IL-1β were significantly associated with the risk of PE. Regarding rs16944, the minor C allele significantly decreased the risk of PE (C vs. T: OR = 0.79, 95% CI = 0.69-0.90). In contrast, the minor T allele of rs1143634 significantly increased the risk of PE (T vs. C: OR = 1. 28, 95% CI = 1.04-1.58). There was no significant association between IL-6 rs1800795 (C vs. G: OR = 1.04, 95% CI = 0.93-1.16) polymorphism and PE risk. CONCLUSIONS In conclusion, this meta-analysis suggests rs1143634 and rs16944 polymorphisms of IL-1β are related to the risk of PE.

Abstract
Innate and adaptive immune systems have a crucial role in initiating and progressing some pregnancy disorders such as preeclampsia (PE), which is one of the pregnancy-specific disorders that could result in neonatal and maternal morbidity and mortality. The dysregulation of the spiral artery and inadequate trophoblast invasion lead to PE symptoms through producing various inflammatory cytokines and anti-angiogenic factors from the placenta. T lymphocytes play a special role in the epithelium and stroma of the human endometrium. CD4+ T helper (Th) cells, Th1/Th2, and Th17/T regulatory (Treg) balance mainly contribute to the establishment of a pregnancy-favorable environment. This review examined the dysregulation of some cytokines produced from T cells, the dysregulation of the transcription factors of Th cells, the expression of chemokine receptors on T cells, as well as the effects of some factors including vitamin D on the activity of T cells, and finally, the dysregulation of various miRNAs related to T cells, which could cause PE.

Abstract
Chronic kidney disease (CKD) is one of the major health problems of the modern age. It represents an important public health challenge with an ever-lasting rising prevalence, which reached almost 700 million by the year 2017. Therefore, it is very important to identify patients at risk for CKD development and discover risk factors that cause the progression of the disease. Several studies have tackled this conundrum in recent years, novel markers have been identified, and new insights into the pathogenesis of CKD have been gained. This review summarizes the evidence on markers of inflammation and their role in the development and progression of CKD. It will focus primarily on cytokines, chemokines, and cell adhesion molecules. Nevertheless, further large, multicenter studies are needed to establish the role of these markers and confirm possible treatment options in everyday clinical practice.

Abstract
The survival and development of a semi-allogeneic fetus during pregnancy require the involvement of a series of cytokines and immune cells. Chemokines are a type of special cytokine those were originally described as having a role in leukocyte trafficking. CXC chemokine ligand (CXCL) 16 is a member of the chemokine family, and CXC chemokine receptor (CXCR) 6 is its sole receptor. Emerging evidence has shown that CXCL16/CXCR6 is expressed at the maternal-fetal interface, by cell types that include trophoblast cells, decidual stroma cells, and decidual immune cells (eg, monocytes, γδT cells, and natural killer T (NKT) cells). The regulation of expression of CXCL16 is quite complex, and this process involves a multitude of factors. CXCL16 exerts a critical role in the establishment of a successful pregnancy through a series of molecular interactions at the maternal-fetal interface. However, an abnormal expression of CXCL16 is associated with certain pathological states associated with pregnancy, including recurrent miscarriage, pre-eclampsia, and gestational diabetes mellitus (GDM). In the present review, the expression and pleiotropic roles of CXCL16 under conditions of physiological and pathological pregnancy are systematically discussed.
