Abstract
BACKGROUND For the professions of audiology and speech-language therapy (A/SLT), there continues be a dire need for more equitable services. Therefore there is a need to develop emerging practices which have a specific focus on equity as a driving force in shifting practices. This scoping review aimed to synthesise the characteristics of emerging practices in A/SLT clinical practice in relation to equity with an emphasis on communication professions. METHODS This scoping review followed the Joanna Briggs Institute guidelines and aimed to map the emerging practices in A/SLT to identify the ways in which the professions are developing equitable practices. Papers were included if they addressed equity, focused on clinical practice and were situated within A/SLT literature. There were no time or language restrictions. The review included all sources of evidence across PubMed, Scopus, EbscoHost, The Cochrane Library and Dissertation Abstracts International, Education Resource Information Centre from their inception. The review uses PRISMA Extension for scoping reviews and PRISMA-Equity Extension reporting guidelines. RESULTS The 20 included studies ranged from 1997-2020, spanning over 20 years. There were a variety of papers including empirical studies, commentaries, reviews and research. The results demonstrated that the professions were increasingly considering addressing equity through their practice. However, there was a prominent focus around culturally and linguistically diverse populations, with limited engagement around other intersections of marginalisation. The results also showed that while the majority of contributions to theorising equity are from the Global North with a small cluster from the Global South offering critical contributions considering social categories such as race and class. Collectively the contributions from the Global South remain a very small minority of the professional discourse which have a focus on equity. CONCLUSION Over the last eight years, the A/SLT professions are increasingly developing emerging practices to advance equity by engaging with marginalised communities. However, the professions have a long way to go to achieve equitable practice. The decolonial lens acknowledges the impact and influence of colonisation and coloniality in shaping inequity. Using this lens, we argue for the need to consider communication as a key aspect of health necessary to achieve health equity.

Abstract
PURPOSE The United Nations adopted 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) in 2015 as a universal plan to address challenges experienced around the globe. SDG 4 focuses on inclusive and equitable education while SDG 10 aims to reduce inequality within and among countries. To achieve these goals for children with communication disabilities living in underserved communities, equitable access to services is required. Service delivery should be tailored to the unique characteristics of specific communities to best cater to the needs of the population. This commentary presents the Context-specific Service Delivery Framework (CSDF) that can be used to explore contexts systematically and identify suitable speech-language pathology service delivery approaches. CSDF focuses on the three dimensions of sustainability that are emphasised in the SDGs: environmental, social and economic. RESULT We present how CSDF was developed in the case of one Majority world country, the Maldives. Five studies were conducted to complete CSDF and the findings were used to derive recommendations for service delivery approaches that could help achieve SDG 4 and SDG 10. These included, building capacity by using asset-based approaches, collaborating with service providers and the community, using population-based methods to focus on prevention of communication disabilities and using available technology to provide support. CONCLUSION Other underserved communities could also benefit from using CSDF to design equitable services for children with communication disabilities in their countries. This commentary paper focuses on SDG 4 and SDG 10.

Abstract
BACKGROUND: Work-system participation and factors are associated with occupational vocal health for vocally reliant workers, such as sports coaches. However, there is limited use of systems approaches and worker collaboration to address occupational voice. OBJECTIVE: The current research aimed to cooperatively consider coaches’ vocally reliant systems participation, including addressing vocal ergonomic factors that can create barriers for occupational vocal health and voice use. METHODS: Collaborative action inquiries explored vocal ergonomics with coaches (n = 24) from nine professional basketball teams. Across three basketball seasons, coaches and a subject matter expert identified what influenced coaches’ voices and trialed approaches to optimize vocally reliant coaching participation. Nine action inquiry methods were used, including search conferences, ergonomic approaches to enhance systems participation, and focus groups. Multi-level analyses were also undertaken. RESULTS: Participants cooperatively generated, implemented, and evaluated different strategies. A cumulative total of 57 strategies were explored within teams (team mean = 6.33, SD = 3, range = 4–14). Cross-case analysis identified 25 different strategy types. Overall, participants appraised 31.58% (18/57) strategies as supportive (i.e., enhanced facilitators for voice), 61.40% (35/57) strategies as somewhat supportive (i.e., some enhanced facilitators and some ongoing barriers), and 7.02% (4/57) strategies as unsupportive (i.e., pervasive ongoing barriers not mitigated by strategies). Further, factors across coaches’ work-systems continued to influence coaches’ voices in dynamic and complex ways. CONCLUSIONS: Collaboration with coaches enriched vocal ergonomic approaches by providing novel, context-anchored insights. Collaboration should form ‘part’ of broader mechanisms to support coaches’ voice use and vocal health at work.

Abstract
Systems thinking approaches can benefit the occupational vocal health of vocally reliant workers. This paper explores community faith leaders as an example of a highly vocally reliant occupation, who may benefit from systems thinking being used to support their vocal occupational health and safety. A scoping review of the current literature regarding faith leaders' occupational voice use and vocal health is detailed, including recognised occupational hazards. This article then discusses the unique and potential use of systems thinking for facilitating faith leaders' vocal occupational health and safety. Rather than using a solely clinical perspective, the sociotechnical systems approach and the biopsychosocial-spiritual approach are noted as particularly pertinent for this occupational group.

Abstract
PURPOSE Alternative service delivery approaches are required to provide support for children with communication difficulties in underserved communities. Schools have a unique set of assets that can be utilized to provide this support. This study explored what the education sector and classrooms in the early years of schooling offer as support for children with communication difficulties in an underserved Majority World country, the Maldives. The objective was to identify opportunities to enhance support provided for these children. METHOD A qualitative multimethod approach was used involving (a) 520 min of classroom observational data from four remote schools, (b) interviews with four special education needs teachers, and (c) an interview with a Ministry of Education official. Classroom observational data were analyzed using the Communication Supporting Classroom Observation Tool. Deductive content analysis was used to analyze the interview data. RESULTS The support system aimed to reflect the Inclusive Education Policy of the Maldives. The Ministry of Education official and teachers raised concerns regarding lack of allied health services such as speech-language therapy in schools. Teachers frequently used certain communication supporting interactions such as imitation in classrooms. Missed opportunities to enhance communication were observed, including limited use of some interaction features such as modeling language, limited planned opportunities for children to interact in class, and limited resources in the environment to develop communication in Grade 1 and 2 compared to preschool. CONCLUSION Findings suggest building capacity among teachers and training teachers on identified classroom communication support areas to enhance support for children with communication difficulties. Abstract
Purpose Diversification of the profession is an important element of combating racism, bias, and prejudice in the speech-language pathology workforce at national and systemic levels. However, national and systemic change needs to be combined with equipping individual speech-language pathologists to adapt to the challenges that they face to engaging in culturally responsive practice. This paper presents four interacting levels of practice within the Culturally Responsive Teamwork Framework (CRTF): (a) intrapersonal practices, (b) interpersonal practices, (c) intraprofessional practices, and (d) the interprofessional practices. Conclusion CRTF is a practical, strengths-based framework that draws on international research and expertise to expand personal and professional practice and describe critical behaviors within the workplace that can be used to promote principles of evidence-based practice and social justice, especially when working with people from nondominant cultural or linguistic groups.

Abstract
BACKGROUND People living in Majority world countries face complex challenges regarding speech-language therapy services. As traditional individualised service delivery approaches may not suit the needs of the population, customised solutions are needed. AIM This study explored speech-language therapy and related resources available in the Maldives, a Majority world country, as seen by local government representatives and service providers. The goal was to identify service delivery approaches for children with communication difficulties that could yield the most out of existing resources. METHOD Semi-structured interviews were conducted with six service providers (three speech-language therapists (SLTs), three representatives from Non-Governmental Organisations (NGOs) related to disabilities) and six local government representatives (atoll councillors) of the Maldives. Interview questions related to services available for children with communication difficulties. The data were analysed via deductive content analysis. RESULTS SLTs predominantly delivered traditional individualised and rehabilitative therapy. Services were unevenly distributed across the Maldives with some atolls receiving no services. Support was available from community groups and atoll councillors in some atolls, for instance to access aids provided by the government. Some NGOs were trialling alternative service delivery approaches by conducting programs for parents and teachers in atolls. Participants suggested several possible measures including increasing awareness of speech-language therapy and communication difficulties amongst communities, engaging active community groups to support interventions and allowing less qualified professionals to provide services. The costs related to access and provide services were noted as a challenge. CONCLUSION While this study discovered limitations, the existing resources that were identified can be better directed to reach more children who require services in the Maldives. The following potential alternative service delivery approaches were derived from the results: focusing on prevention, using public health approaches to train families and teachers, creating awareness, building capacity within the community, and adopting cost-effective approaches to provide services.

Abstract
The right to communicate includes the right to "freedom of opinion and expression" and rights and freedoms "without distinction of … language". The 70th anniversary of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights is a time to celebrate and reflect on communication as a human right, particularly with respect to Article 19 and its relationship to national and international conventions, declarations, policies and practices. This review profiles articles from the special issue of International Journal of Speech-Language Pathology (volume 20, issue 1) addressing communication rights from four perspectives: (1) communication rights of all people; (2) communication rights of people with communication disabilities; (3) communication rights of children and (4) communication rights relating to language. Divergent perspectives from across the globe are considered. First-hand accounts of people whose right to communicate is compromised/upheld are included and perspectives are provided from people with expertise and advocacy roles in speech-language pathology, audiology, linguistics, education, media, literature and law, including members of the International Communication Project. Three steps are outlined to support communication rights: acknowledge people - adjust the communication style - take time to listen. Future advocacy for communication rights could be informed by replicating processes used to generate the Yogyakarta Principles.
