Abstract
Intrauterine adhesion (IUA) is caused by artificial endometrial damage during intrauterine cavity surgery. The typical phenotype involves loss of spontaneous endometrium recovery and angiogenesis. Undesirable symptoms include abnormal menstruation and infertility; therefore, prevention and early treatment of IUA remain crucial issues. Extracorporeal shockwave therapy (ESWT) major proposed therapeutic mechanisms include neovascularization, tissue regeneration, and fibrosis. We examined the effects of ESWT and/or platelet-rich plasma (PRP) during preventive and therapeutic stages of IUA by inducing intrauterine mechanical injury in rats. PRP alone, or combined with ESWT, were detected an increased number of endometrial glands, elevated vascular endothelial growth factor protein expression (hematoxylin-eosin staining and immunohistochemistry), and reduced fibrosis rate (Masson trichrome staining). mRNA expression levels of nuclear factor-kappa B, tumor necrosis factor-α, transforming growth factor-β, interleukin (IL)-6, collagen type I alpha 1, and fibronectin were reduced during two stages. However, PRP alone, or ESWT combined with PRP transplantation, not only increased the mRNA levels of vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF) and progesterone receptor (PR) during the preventive stage but also increased PR, insulin-like growth factor 1 (IGF-1), and IL-4 during the therapeutic stage. These findings revealed that these two treatments inhibited endometrial fibrosis and inflammatory markers, thereby inhibiting the occurrence and development of intrauterine adhesions.

What is the impact of extracorporeal shock wave lithotripsy on semen parameters? A systematic review and meta-analysis. Urologia 2017; 84:28-34. Abstract
BACKGROUND Extracorporeal shock wave lithotripsy (ESWL) is an important tool for the management of urolithiasis. The effects of shockwaves on tissues are established. The aim of this meta-analysis is to evaluate the microscopic semen characteristics of young men before and after ESWL treatment for lower ureteral calculi. METHODS Literature searches were performed following the Cochrane guidelines. We conducted a systematic review and meta-analysis that included six trials that investigated the effects of ESWL on semen parameters, including sperm concentration, motility, and hematospermia. Meta-analyses were performed using fixed and random-effects models with tests for publication bias and heterogeneity. RESULTS Significant worsening was detected in sperm concentration and motility after ESWL between case and control groups (mean difference -17.23, 95% confidence interval -22.53 to -11.93, p<0.00001, mean difference -10.82, 95% confidence interval -18.56 to -3.07, p = 0.006). Rate of microscopic and macroscopic hematospermia was significantly higher after ESWL between case and control groups [risk ratio (RR) 40.00, 95% confidence interval 10.11-158.30, p<0.00001, RR 14.33, 95% confidence interval 2.82-72.90, p = 0.001]. All parameters recovered after 3 months. CONCLUSIONS This study showed sperm concentration, motility, and rate of hematospermia (microscopic and macroscopic) were affected by ESWL that was used for the treatment of lower ureteral stone. Long-term studies with a focus on male fertility (i.e., pregnancy rates) after ESWL are warranted.

Abstract
Shockwave lithotripsy (SWL) is the treatment of choice for most renal calculi because it is highly effective and relatively noninvasive. Although complications of SWL are relatively few, one that occurs more frequently is perirenal hematoma, usually diagnosed by radiologic procedures. We present an interesting case of scrotal ecchymosis as an unusual presentation of perirenal hematoma causing ipsilateral spermatic-vein thrombosis after SWL for a left renal stone. To our knowledge, this condition has not been reported previously.

Abstract
PURPOSE To determine the effects on semen of extracorporeal shockwave lithotripsy for distal-ureteral stones. PATIENTS AND METHODS We examined the semen of 62 patients 1 day before and 1 week and 3 months after SWL for distal-ureteral stones. The results were compared with those of 62 patients similarly treated for upper- ureteral stones. RESULTS Sperm density and motility decreased significantly after SWL for distal-ureteral stones (P < 0.001 for both). Macroscopic hemospermia was reported by 16 patients. These changes were reversed by 3 months. No change was observed after SWL for upper-ureteral stones. CONCLUSION Transient deterioration of semen characteristics can be expected after SWL for distal-ureteral stones, which may be attributable to damage to the seminal vesicles or ejaculatory ducts. The changes are transient, and normal semen characteristics are found by 3 months after SWL. The long-term effects in subfertile men warrant further investigation.

Abstract
The objective of this study was to investigate whether extracorporeal shock wave lithotripsy can affect semen parameters in patients with distal ureteral stones. We concluded that extracorporeal shock wave lithotripsy could reduce sperm concentration and motility permanently in men with lower ureteral stones.
