Abstract
BACKGROUND Patients with oral cancer usually experience disfigurement and dysfunction which are shared risk factors of suicide. The aim of the study was to comprehensively assess the characteristics of suicide and risk factors for suicide in patients with oral cancer. METHODS Surveillance, Epidemiology, and End Results database was used to acquire information of patients with common malignant tumors including oral cancer from 1975 to 2020. The aim was to explore the incidence of suicide, and timing of suicide among patients with oral cancer. A Fine-Gray competing risks regression model was employed to analyze risk factors associated with suicide among patients with various demographic and tumor characteristics. RESULTS Totally, 7685 patients with different malignant tumors committed suicide. Among them, 203 patients with oral cancer died due to suicide, presenting a suicide rate of 54.5/100,000 person-years, which was almost 3.5 times that of the US general population and 1.5 times that of the overall US patients with cancer in our study. Approximately 18 %, 40 %, and 55 % of suicides occurred in first year, first 3 years, and first 5 years after diagnosis. Being male, White race, and having a single primary tumor might be regarded as the risk factors for suicide. CONCLUSION As oral cavity is closely associated with appearance, pronunciation and ingestion, patients with oral cancer have a significant high risk of suicide. Tremendous attention needs to be paid to patients with oral cancer particularly those exhibiting characteristics associated with a high risk of suicide.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE Breast cancer is one of the most common cancers in women worldwide. This study aims is to investigate the burden of breast cancer in Iran and its relationship with the Human Development Index (HDI) during 2009 to 2019. STUDY DESIGN The present study is an observational study in Iran during the years 2009 to 2019. Data related to the incidence, mortality, Years of Life with Disability (YLD), Years of Life Lost (YLL) and Disability-Adjusted Life-Years (DALY) of breast cancer in Iran were extracted from the Global Burden of Disease 2019 (GBD-2019) website. Correlation tests are used to check the relationship between these indicators and the human development index. RESULTS The highest incidence rate of breast cancer in 2019 is related to the provinces of Gilan (29 per 100,000) and Tehran (28.55 per 100,000) and the highest rate of death from breast cancer is related to the provinces of Gilan (10.71 per 100,000). and Semnan (9.97 in 100,000). The results showed that there is a positive and significant correlation between DALY (r = 0.626, P < 0.0001), YLL (r = 0.611, P < 0.0001) and, YLD (r = 0.773, P < 0.0001) breast cancer with HDI index. There is a positive and significant correlation between the incidence (r = 0.794, P < 0.0001) and mortality (r = 0.503, P = 0.003) of breast cancer with the HDI index. CONCLUSIONS Considering that a positive correlation was observed between the incidence and burden of breast cancer and the human development index in the country, it is suggested to implement preventive measures such as public education programs to reduce the incidence and burden of breast cancer and the necessity of screening programs in areas with low human development index. It confirms the diagnosis of disease cases.

Abstract
OBJECTIVES Despite the established benefits and availability of mammographic breast screening, participation rates remain suboptimal. Women with higher BMIs may not screen regularly, despite being at increased risk of postmenopausal breast cancer and worse outcomes. This study investigated the association between prospective changes in BMI and longitudinal adherence to mammographic screening among women with overweight or obesity. METHODS Retrospective cohort study of women (N = 2822) participating in the Australian Longitudinal Study on Women's Health with an average follow-up of 20 years, with screening participation enumerated via BreastScreen NSW, Australia clinical records over the period 1996-2016. Association between BMI and subsequent adherence to screening was investigated in a series of marginal structural models, incorporating a time variant/invariant socio-demographic, clinical, and health behaviour confounders. Models were also stratified by a proxy measure of socio-economic status (education). RESULTS Participants with overweight/obesity were less adherent to mammography screening, compared to healthy/underweight participants (OR=1.29, 95 % CI=1.07, 1.55). The association between overweight/obesity and non-adherence was higher among those who ever had private health insurance (OR=1.30, 95 % CI=1.05, 1.61) compared to those who never had private health insurance and among those with lower educational background (OR=1.38, 95 % CI=1.08, 1.75) compared to those with higher educational background. CONCLUSIONS Long-term impacts on screening participation exist among women with higher BMI, who are less likely to participate in routinely organised breast screening. Women with a higher BMI should be a focus of efforts to improve breast screening participation, particularly given their increased risk of breast cancer and association of higher BMI with worse breast cancer outcomes among older women.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Tumor-associated neutrophils (TANs) are important modulators of the tumor microenvironment with opposing functions that can promote and inhibit tumor progression. The prognostic role of TANs in early luminal breast cancer is unclear. METHODS A total of 144 patients were treated for early-stage hormone-receptor-positive breast cancer as part of an Accelerated Partial Breast Irradiation (APBI) phase II trial. Resection samples from multiple locations were processed into tissue microarrays and sections thereof immunohistochemically stained for CD66b+ neutrophils. CD66b+ neutrophil density was measured separately in the stromal and intraepithelial compartment. RESULTS High stromal and intraepithelial CD66b+ TAN density was a negative prognostic factor in central tumor samples. In addition, neutrophil density in adjacent normal breast tissue and lymph node samples also correlated with reduced disease-free survival. TAN density correlated with CD163+ M2-like tumor-associated macrophage (TAM) density, which we analyzed in a previous study. TANs were a negative prognostic factor in tumors with an elevated M1/M2 TAM ratio, while this impact on patient outcome was lost in tumors with a low M1/M2 ratio. A combined multivariate analysis of TAM and TAN density revealed that only TAM polarization status was an independent prognostic factor. CONCLUSIONS CD66b+ neutrophils were a negative prognostic factor in early-stage luminal breast cancer in single-marker analysis. Combined analysis with TAMs could be necessary to correctly evaluate their prognostic impact in future studies. TAN recruitment might act as a compensatory mechanism of immunoevasion and disease progression in tumors that are unable to sufficiently attract and polarize TAMs.

Abstract
The relationship between perfluoroalkyl substances (PFASs) and the risk of breast cancer has been controversial. Here, we used the National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey (NHANES) database and a meta-analysis to examine the association between PFASs and breast cancer incidence. From the NHANES database, we obtained data on PFASs and breast cancer from 2003 to 2014. We searched PubMed, Web of Science, Scopus and PsycINFO from the establishment of the databases to August 24, 2023, for research on PFASs related to breast cancer. A meta-analysis was performed using Stata 12.0. A total of 1430 subjects aged 20 years or older were selected from the NHANES. The logistic regression results indicated that there was no correlation between breast cancer and PFASs (P > 0.05). The meta-analysis, included nine studies with a total of 2399 breast cancer patients, included in the meta-analysis, revealed no statistically significant association between PFASs and the risk of breast cancer (odds ratio = 1.04; 95 % confidence interval, 0.88-1.21; P > 0.05). The results show that PFASs are not associated with breast cancer risk.

Abstract
INTRODUCTION In the United States, 5%-10% of breast cancer cases are due to genetic predisposition. Among this population, prophylactic mastectomy is viable risk-reducing option. OBJECTIVE The objective of this study is to understand the timing to prophylactic mastectomy in patients with genetic predisposition to breast cancer and uncover factors influencing this decision. METHODS This study is a retrospective review of patients diagnosed with genetic predisposition for breast cancer from 2010 to 2020. RESULTS In a cohort of 506 patients with genetic predisposition for breast cancer, 154 (30.4%) underwent prophylactic mastectomy, the remainder opted for surveillance alone. The median time from diagnosis to mastectomy was 1.1 years (IQR, 0.5-3.1 years). During the surveillance period, 118 patients (33.5%) underwent breast biopsy. Of the patients with benign or atypical findings, 35 (36.8%) pursued prophylactic mastectomy, a median of 0.5 years (IQR, 0.2-1.6 years) after their gene diagnosis. The most common factor impacting the decision to undergo prophylactic mastectomy was having a family member with cancer (54.7%) followed by a personal diagnosis of other cancer(s) (27.5%). CONCLUSION Understanding the factors influencing the decision to undergo prophylactic surgery will allow for more effective shared decision-making for primary care providers, breast surgeons, and reconstructive surgeons.

Abstract
Introduction The coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) outbreak, first reported in Wuhan, China, in December 2019, quickly hit the world in just one month, causing a global public health emergency. We aimed to investigate whether the COVID-19 pandemic caused a delay in the hospital admissions of breast cancer patients and diagnosis of breast cancer, thus increasing the tumor size and the stage of the disease. Materials and methods Included in the study were patients who underwent breast cancer surgery between 01/03/2019 and 01/03/2020 (pre-COVID-19, first period) and between 01/03/2020 and 01/03/2021 (post-COVID-19, second period). Three hundred and seventy patients with enough details were included, and details were analyzed retrospectively. Tumor characteristics of pre-COVID-19 breast cancer patients were compared with the tumor characteristics of post-COVID-19 breast cancer patients. Demographics, preoperative diagnosis, tumor properties, surgical procedure (breast-conserving surgery, modified radical mastectomy, simple mastectomy, skin-sparing mastectomy), tumor size, total lymph node number, metastatic lymph node number, locally advanced disease, metastatic disease, and neoadjuvant therapy were evaluated. Results The mean tumor size increased significantly in the post-COVID-19 primary surgery group (p=0.005). There is no significant relationship between the pre-COVID-19 and post-COVID-19 period and pT in the neoadjuvant received group (p>0.05). The presence of pT2+pT3+pT4 was statistically significantly higher in the post-COVID-19 primary surgery group (p=0.001). The mean value of metastatic lymph nodes dissected between pre-COVID-19 and post-COVID-19 primary surgery groups increased significantly (p=0.010). Pericapsular extension was higher in the post-primary surgery group (p=0.002). Conclusion During the COVID-19 outbreak, breast cancer patients have difficulty accessing healthcare services and hesitate to apply to hospitals to fear contracting the COVID-19 disease. This situation has led to delays in diagnosing breast cancer patients, increased tumor size and pT grade, increased number of metastatic lymph nodes, pericapsular extension, and the resulting disease often appearing in advanced sizes and stages.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Emerging interest surrounds the role of environmental factors, notably exposure to light at night (LAN), as a potential cause of cancer. The aim of this study was to conduct a systematic review and, if possible, meta-analysis of observational studies on LAN and cancer risk of multiple types. METHODS A systematic literature search in PubMed, Web of Science, and Embase, spanning from inception to May 2023, was conducted. Studies focusing on the association between LAN exposure and cancer risk in adult populations were included. We used random effects models to calculate pooled risk estimates (RR) and 95% confidence intervals (CI). We assessed study quality using the Risk of Bias in Non-randomized Studies of Interventions. RESULTS Among 8492 initially identified studies, 26 met the inclusion criteria (13 were case-control and 13 were cohort studies). These studies were published from 2001 to 2023 and assessed diverse cancer types in North America, Asia, Europe, and Australia. Except for breast cancer, there was a paucity of site-specific cancer studies. In the meta-analysis of 19 breast cancer studies, higher exposure to indoor (summary RR, 1.08; 95% CI 1.01-1.15) and outdoor (summary RR, 1.10; 95% CI, 1.04-1.15) LAN were associated with increased risk. After excluding one low-quality study, the results were unchanged. CONCLUSIONS We found a positive association between LAN exposure and breast cancer risk in women. However, data are lacking for other cancer types, and further studies are required to better understand the role of LAN on cancer.

Abstract
Breast cancer is a pressing public health issue globally and in Morocco, with rising cases among women. This study aims to evaluate breast cancer awareness and self-examination practices among female university students, informing future educational interventions. A cross-sectional study surveyed 437 students at Ibn Zohr University, Agadir, using a questionnaire covering demographics, knowledge of breast cancer, risk factors, symptoms, and breast self-examination (BSE). Results showed high awareness of breast cancer (95.3%), with social networks and media being primary information sources. However, only 48.25% had intermediate knowledge levels, and BSE awareness was moderate (60.8%) with low practical skills (28.0%). Reasons for not performing BSE included lack of knowledge and discomfort. Significant associations were found between knowledge levels and age, year of study, study options, and information sources. Despite high awareness, there is a crucial need to enhance knowledge about breast cancer risk factors, symptoms, and BSE practices among young women in Morocco. Educational programs targeting university students are essential for promoting early detection and improving attitudes toward breast health.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Due to increased cancer detection rates (CDR), breast MR (breast MRI) can reduce underdiagnosis of breast cancer compared to conventional imaging techniques, particularly in women with dense breasts. The purpose of this study is to report the additional breast cancer yield by breast MRI in women with dense breasts after receiving a negative screening mammogram. METHODS For this study we invited consecutive participants of the national German breast cancer Screening program with breast density categories ACR C & D and a negative mammogram to undergo additional screening by breast MRI. Endpoints were CDR and recall rates. This study reports interim results in the first 200 patients. At a power of 80% and considering an alpha error of 5%, this preliminary population size is sufficient to demonstrate a 4/1000 improvement in CDR. RESULTS In 200 screening participants, 8 women (40/1000, 17.4-77.3/1000) were recalled due to positive breast MRI findings. Image-guided biopsy revealed 5 cancers in 4 patients (one bilateral), comprising four invasive cancers and one case of DCIS. 3 patients revealed 4 invasive cancers presenting with ACR C breast density and one patient non-calcifying DCIS in a woman with ACR D breast density, resulting in a CDR of 20/1000 (95%-CI 5.5-50.4/1000) and a PPV of 50% (95%-CI 15.7-84.3%). CONCLUSION Our initial results demonstrate that supplemental screening using breast MRI in women with heterogeneously dense and very dense breasts yields an additional cancer detection rate in line with a prior randomized trial on breast MRI screening of women with extremely dense breasts. These findings are highly important as the population investigated constitutes a much higher proportion of women and yielded cancers particularly in women with heterogeneously dense breasts.

Abstract
This study shall retrospectively evaluate the efficacy and safety of liquid-nitrogen based CT-guided cryoablation (CA) as a minimal-invasive technique for the curative treatment of primary breast cancer. A total of 45 female patients with 56 tumors were treated by CT-guided CA in analgosedation as an outpatient procedure. We used a liquid-nitrogen based system with a single cryoprobe and performed two freeze cycles with an intermediate thawing. The mean tumor diameter was 1.6 ± 0.7 cm. Follow-up was conducted via contrast-enhanced MR images of the breast. No complications were observed in all 56 ablations. Initial complete ablation was achieved in 100% of cases. Four cases of local tumor progression were reported, resulting in a rate of 8.9%, and 6 cases of intramammary distant recurrence at a rate of 13.3%. The extramammary tumor progression was observed in 7 patients at a rate of 15.6%. The mean overall survival was 4.13 years (95% CI: 3.7-4.5). The mean overall progression-free survival was 2.5 years (95% CI: 1.8-3.2) and the mean local progression-free survival was 2.9 years (95% CI: 2.3-3.6). Cryoablation is a safe and effective treatment for primary breast cancer tumors, which can be performed in analgosedation and as an outpatient procedure. However, potential for improvement exists and further evidence is necessary.

Abstract
Introduction Women can experience various reproductive events, such as pregnancy, childbirth, lactation, and contraception, which cause long-term changes in female hormones. In middle-aged women, the prevalence of migraine is high, and a clear gender difference is evident. This study investigated the effects of factors associated with past reproductive events on the risk of new migraine in middle-aged premenopausal women. Methods The influence of reproductive factors on migraine in middle-aged women was investigated using the Korean National Health Insurance Service (KNHIS) and Korean Health Examination (KHE) databases. The reproductive factors of interest were parity, breastfeeding, and oral contraceptive (OC) use. The study included 949,704 middle-aged premenopausal women 40-60 years of age. The study population was divided into two groups based on new diagnosis of migraine during the follow-up period (2009-2018). Results The risk of new migraine tended to increase in the primiparous (hazard ratio, HR: 1.179; 95% confidence interval, CI: 1.137-1.221) and multiparous groups (HR: 1.181; 95% CI: 1.142-1.221) compared with the nulliparous group. The breastfeeding ≥12 months group (HR: 1.071; 95% CI: 1.052-1.091) showed a significantly increased risk of new migraine compared with the non-breastfeeding group. All women in the OC groups (< 1 year, HR: 1.048; 95% CI: 1.028-1.069 and ≥ 1 year, HR: 1.100; 95% CI: 1.067-1.134) showed a higher risk of new migraine than those in the non-OC group. Conclusion The results of the current study indicate that childbirth, longer breastfeeding, and OC use may be associated with a higher risk of new migraine in middle-aged premenopausal women.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Breast cancer is one of the most common malignancies in women. Hence, its treatment has become our utmost priority in developing countries like India. Modified radical mastectomy (MRM) has traditionally been used as the standard of care for early-stage invasive breast carcinoma and still is the most commonly used surgical treatment for carcinoma breast. AIM The study compared the incidence of intraoperative and postoperative outcomes with skin flaps raised using a harmonic scalpel versus those raised using electrocautery. METHODS Sixty women with biopsy-proven breast cancer who had to undergo MRM were randomly assigned to undergo skin flap raising during mastectomy by using electrocautery or harmonic scalpel. Thirty patients had surgery with electrocautery (Group 1) and 30 with a harmonic scalpel (Group 2) by the same surgical team. RESULTS The mean operative time was significantly longer with harmonic scalpel when compared to that with electrocautery (140.67 ± 28.55 vs. 122.00 ± 19.16 mins, P =0.004). The amount of intraoperative blood loss (178.33 ± 21.06 vs 138.50 ± 28.53 mL P = 0.001) was less in the group operated with the harmonic scalpel, which was statistically significant. There was no significant difference between the groups regarding total drainage content (310.83 ± 88.93 vs 298.20 ± 127.87 mL, P = 0.659), drain duration (6.83 ± 0.75 vs 7.43 ± 2.27 days, p=0.174), seroma (3.3% vs. 0%) wound infection (3.3% vs 0%), flap necrosis (16.7% vs. 3.3%, P = 0.195), duration of hospital stays (8.57 ± 0.77 vs 8.43 ± 1.61 days, p=0.684). CONCLUSION Harmonic scalpels have a few advantages over electrocautery, but are not cost-effective.

Abstract
Breast cancer (BC) is the most abundant and aggressive cancer that impacts millions of women with poorly understood mechanisms. Here, we aimed to investigate the function of LINC01806 in BC development. Human BC tissues and nearby normal specimens were taken from diagnosed BC patients. The expression levels of LINC01806, miR-1286, ZEB1, and EMT-related markers were evaluated by qRT-PCR and western blotting. FISH was used to visualize the subcellular localization of LINC01806. The viability, proliferation, migration and invasion capacities of BC cells were assessed by MTT, colony formation, and transwell assays. Interactions among LINC01806, miR-1286 and ZEB1 were validated by dual luciferase assay. The unpaired Student t-test (for two groups) or one-way ANOVA following with Tukey post-hoc test (for more than three groups) was employed for statistical analysis. LINC01806 level was elevated in BC tissues. Knockdown of LINC01806 suppressed EMT process and BC cell proliferation, migration, and invasion. LINC01806 co-localized and directly bound with miR-1286 in the cytoplasm. MiR-1286 inhibitor blocked the effects of LINC01806 knockdown on BC cell EMT, proliferation and migration. MiR-1286 targeted ZEB1 and overexpression of ZEB1 blocked the regulatory functions of miR-1286 mimics in BC. LINC01806 facilitates EMT and accelerates BC cell proliferation, migration, and invasion via acting as miR-1286 sponge to disinhibit ZEB1 expression.

Phase 1 (systematic review) was conducted following the PRISMA framework. Phase 2 involved in-depth interviews with n = 8 women with lived experience of obesity and/or physical disabilities. An inductive coding approach was applied to the data which was then combined with Phase 1 results to develop the intervention framework. RESULTS Six studies were included in the systematic review. Tailored education based on individual risk increased willingness to undergo mammographic screening. Recommendations to improve the screening experience included partnerships with consumers, targeted messaging, and enhanced professional development for breast screening staff. Participants also identified strategies to improve the uptake of screening and the experience itself. CONCLUSION Development and evaluation of interventions informed by frameworks like the one developed in this study are needed to improve engagement in screening to promote regular participation among women with physical disabilities and/or obesity. IMPLICATIONS FOR PRACTICE Successful implementation of practice interventions co-designed by women with obesity and/or physical disabilities are likely to improve their breast screening participation. Enhanced training of radiographers aimed at upskilling in empathetic communication around required manoeuvring and potentially longer screening times for clients with obesity and/or physical disabilities may encourage more positive client practitioner interactions. Client information aimed at women with obesity should include information on how to prepare for the appointment and explain there may be equipment limitations compromising imaging which may not be completed at an initial appointment.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Although behavioral mechanisms in the association among depression, anxiety, and cancer are plausible, few studies have empirically studied mediation by health behaviors. We aimed to examine the mediating role of several health behaviors in the associations among depression, anxiety, and the incidence of various cancer types (overall, breast, prostate, lung, colorectal, smoking-related, and alcohol-related cancers). METHODS Two-stage individual participant data meta-analyses were performed based on 18 cohorts within the Psychosocial Factors and Cancer Incidence consortium that had a measure of depression or anxiety (N = 319 613, cancer incidence = 25 803). Health behaviors included smoking, physical inactivity, alcohol use, body mass index (BMI), sedentary behavior, and sleep duration and quality. In stage one, path-specific regression estimates were obtained in each cohort. In stage two, cohort-specific estimates were pooled using random-effects multivariate meta-analysis, and natural indirect effects (i.e. mediating effects) were calculated as hazard ratios (HRs). RESULTS Smoking (HRs range 1.04-1.10) and physical inactivity (HRs range 1.01-1.02) significantly mediated the associations among depression, anxiety, and lung cancer. Smoking was also a mediator for smoking-related cancers (HRs range 1.03-1.06). There was mediation by health behaviors, especially smoking, physical inactivity, alcohol use, and a higher BMI, in the associations among depression, anxiety, and overall cancer or other types of cancer, but effects were small (HRs generally below 1.01). CONCLUSIONS Smoking constitutes a mediating pathway linking depression and anxiety to lung cancer and smoking-related cancers. Our findings underline the importance of smoking cessation interventions for persons with depression or anxiety.

Abstract
Breast cancer stands as the foremost cause of cancer-related mortality among women, presenting a substantial economic impact on society. The limitations in current therapeutic options, coupled with poor patient tolerance, underscore the urgent need for novel treatments. Our study embarked on a genomic association exploration of breast cancer, leveraging whole-genome sequencing data from the Finngen database, complemented by expression quantitative trait loci (eQTL) insights from the eQTLGen and GTEx Consortiums. An initial investigation was conducted through summary-based Mendelian randomization (MR) to pinpoint primary eQTLs. Analysis of blood specimens revealed 103 eQTLs significantly correlated with breast cancer. Focusing our efforts, we identified 19 candidates with potential therapeutic significance. Further scrutiny via two-sample MR pinpointed UROD, LMO4, HORMAD1, and ZSWIM5 as promising targets for breast cancer therapy. Our research sheds light on new avenues for the treatment of breast cancer, highlighting the potential of genomic association studies in uncovering viable therapeutic targets.

Abstract
Genetic alterations in the TP63 (GenBank: NC_000003.12, ID: 8626) and CCR5 (receptor 5 chemokine co-receptor) (GenBank: NC_000003.12, ID: 1234) genes may increase the risk of developing breast cancer. The aim of this study was to investigate the probable involvement of polymorphisms rs17506395 in the TP63 (tumour protein 63) gene and the CCR5Δ32 mutation in the occurrence of breast cancer in Burkina Faso. This case-control study included 72 patients and 72 controls. Genotyping of SNP rs17506395 (TP63) was performed by polymerase chain reaction-restriction fragment length polymorphism, and genotyping of the CCR5Δ32 mutation was performed by allele-specific oligonucleotide polymerase chain reaction. For SNP rs17506395 (TP63), the genotypic frequencies of wild-type homozygotes (TT) and heterozygotes (TG) were, respectively, 27.72 and 72.22% in cases and 36.11 and 63.89% in controls. No mutated homozygotes (GG) were observed. For the CCR5Δ32 mutation, the genotypic frequencies of wild-type homozygotes (WT/WT) and heterozygotes (WT/Δ32) were 87.5 and 13.5%, respectively, in the cases and 89.29 and 10.71%, respectively, in the controls. No mutated homozygotes (Δ32/Δ32) were observed. None of the polymorphisms rs17506395 of the TP63 gene (OR = 1.47, 95% CI = 0.69-3.17, P = 0.284) and the CCR5Δ32 mutation (OR = 1.32, 95% CI = 0.46-3.77; P = 0.79) were associated with the occurrence of breast cancer in this study.

Abstract
PURPOSE The aim of this study is to identify pre- and intraoperative factors indicating the feasibility of intraoperative radiotherapy (IORT) during breast-conserving surgery (BCS). MATERIALS AND METHODS From January 2018 to December 2019, a total of 128 women undergoing BCS due to early breast cancer were included in this prospective observational study, independent of whether IORT was planned or not. Patient and tumor characteristics as well as surgical parameters that could potentially influence the feasibility of IORT were recorded for the entire collective. In addition, a preoperative senological assessment was performed and analyzed to assess the feasibility of IORT. Logistic regression was then used to identify relevant preoperative parameters and to generate a formula predicting the feasibility of IORT. RESULTS Of the 128 included women undergoing BCS, 46 were preoperatively rated to be feasible, 20 to be questionably feasible for IORT. Ultimately, IORT was realized in 30 patients. The most frequent reasons for omission of IORT were insufficient tumor-to-skin distance and/or an excessively large tumor cavity. Small clinical tumor size and large tumor-to-skin distance according to preoperative ultrasound were significantly related to accomplishment of IORT. CONCLUSION We observed that preoperative ultrasound-based tumor-skin distance is a significant factor in addition to already known parameters to predict feasibility of IORT. Based on our findings we developed a formula to optimize IORT planning which might serve as an additional tool to improve patient selection for IORT in early breast cancer.

Abstract
Breast cancer (BC) is the most commonly diagnosed cancer and the leading cause of cancer mortality in women. As the phosphatidylinositol 3-kinase (PI3K) signaling pathway is involved in a wide range of physiological functions of cells including growth, proliferation, motility, and angiogenesis, any alteration in this axis could induce oncogenic features; therefore, numerous preclinical and clinical studies assessed agents able to inhibit the components of this pathway in BC patients. To the best of our knowledge, this is the first study that analyzed all the registered clinical trials investigating safety and efficacy of the PI3K/AKT/mTOR axis inhibitors in BC. Of note, we found that the trends of PI3K inhibitors in recent years were superior as compared with the inhibitors of either AKT or mTOR. However, most of the trials entering phase III and IV used mTOR inhibitors (majorly Everolimus) followed by PI3K inhibitors (majorly Alpelisib) leading to the FDA approval of these drugs in the BC context. Despite favorable efficacies, our analysis shows that the majority of trials are utilizing PI3K pathway inhibitors in combination with hormone therapy and chemotherapy; implying monotherapy cannot yield huge clinical benefits, at least partly, due to the activation of compensatory mechanisms. To emphasize the beneficial effects of these inhibitors in combined-modal strategies, we also reviewed recent studies which investigated the conjugation of nanocarriers with PI3K inhibitors to reduce harmful toxicities, increase the local concentration, and improve their efficacies in the context of BC therapy.

Abstract
Breast cancer has become a severe public health concern and one of the leading causes of cancer-related death in women worldwide. Several genes and mutations in these genes linked to breast cancer have been identified using sophisticated techniques, despite the fact that the exact cause of breast cancer is still unknown. A commonly used feature for identifying driver mutations is the recurrence of a mutation in patients. Nevertheless, some mutations are more likely to occur than others for various reasons. Sequencing analysis has shown that cancer-driving genes operate across complex networks, often with mutations appearing in a modular pattern. In this work, as a retrospective study, we used TCGA data, which is gathered from breast cancer patients. We introduced a new machine-learning approach to examine gene functionality in networks derived from mutation associations, gene-gene interactions, and graph clustering for breast cancer analysis. These networks have uncovered crucial biological components in critical pathways, particularly those that exhibit low-frequency mutations. The statistical strength of the clinical study is significantly boosted by evaluating the network as a whole instead of just single gene effects. Our method successfully identified essential driver genes with diverse mutation frequencies. We then explored the functions of these potential driver genes and their related pathways. By uncovering low-frequency genes, we shed light on understudied pathways associated with breast cancer. Additionally, we present a novel Monte Carlo-based algorithm to identify driver modules in breast cancer. Our findings highlight the significance and role of these modules in critical signaling pathways in breast cancer, providing a comprehensive understanding of breast cancer development. Abstract
The aim is to analyze the trend in breast cancer mortality rates and its correlation with the socioeconomic development status in Brazil. It involved an ecological time series study carried out in the 26 units of the federation, Federal District and regions of Brazil. Data sources included the Mortality Information System (number of deaths), the Brazilian Institute of Geography and Statistics (resident population) and the study of the Global Burden of Disease (Socio-demographic Index - SDI). Data from 2005 to 2019 were used. The trend was analyzed using Prais-Winsten regression models. The relationship between the mortality rate and the SDI was analyzed using Spearman's correlation coefficient. During the study period, 207,683 deaths from breast cancer occurred. The average standardized mortality rate was 19.95 deaths per 100,000 women in Brazil. All the regions of Brazil showed an increasing trend in mortality. Of the total federative units, 22 showed an increasing trend. There was a positive relationship between the mortality rate and the SDI. The standardized mortality rate for breast cancer showed an increasing trend in Brazil, in all regions and in most states. There was a direct association between mortality and SDI, indicating a greater magnitude in more developed regions.

Abstract
The impact of dietary saturated fatty acids (SFAs) on breast cancer risk may vary depending on their carbon chain lengths, attributable to the discrepancy in their dietary sources and biological activities. The associations between SFA subgroups classified by chain length and breast cancer risk remain controversial. In this case-control study, we aimed to investigate the association between the dietary intake of SFA subgroups, classified by chain lengths, and odds of breast cancer in China. This study included 1661 cases of breast cancer (confirmed as primary and histologically) and 1674 frequency-matched controls. Face-to-face interviews were used to collect basic information, while dietary intake information was obtained by a food frequency questionnaire. The unconditional logistic regression model was used to calculate the odds ratios (ORs) and 95% confidence intervals (95% CIs). All SFA subgroups were inversely associated with odds of breast cancer. The adjusted ORs (95% CIs) were 0.78 (0.61-0.99) for medium-chain SFAs, 0.50 (0.31-0.83) for long even-chain SFAs, 0.69 (0.54-0.88) for long odd-chain, and 0.67 (0.48-0.95) for very long-chain SFAs, respectively. In the restricted cubic spline (RCS) models, a non-linear M-shaped association was observed between long odd-chain SFAs and odds of breast cancer (Pnon-linearity = 0.007). However, the associations of medium-chain SFAs, long even-chain SFAs, and very long-chain SFAs did not reach statistical significance (Pnon-linearity > 0.05). No significant interactions were observed between all these four subgroups of SFAs and menopausal status or BMI. Our findings emphasize the significance of elucidating the associations of dietary SFAs according to chain lengths, providing insights into the etiology as well as the potential benefits of SFA-rich food intake in reducing the risk of breast cancer. Further prospective cohort studies and intervention studies are warranted to confirm these findings and identify the underlying mechanisms of the association between dietary SFAs and breast cancer.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE To investigate the prevalence of BRCA1/2 gene variants and evaluate the clinical and pathological characteristics associated with these variants in Chinese Hakka breast cancer patients. METHODS A total of 409 breast cancer patients were analyzed based on next-generation sequencing results, with 337 categorized as non-carriers and 72 as carriers of BRCA1/2 variants. Data on the patients' BRCA1/2 gene mutation status, clinical and pathological characteristics, as well as menstrual and reproductive information, were collected, analyzed, compared, and tabulated. Logistic regression analysis was performed to explore the relationship between clinical characteristics and pathogenic variants. RESULTS Among the patients, 72 were identified as carriers of pathogenic or likely pathogenic variants in BRCA1/2, while 337 had likely benign or benign mutations. The BRCA1 c.2635G > T (p. Glu879*) variant was detected at a high frequency, accounting for 12.5% (4/32) of the BRCA1 mutations, while the c.5164_5165del (p.Ser1722Tyrfs*4) variant was common among the BRCA2 mutations, accounting for 17.5% (7/40). It was observed that a higher proportion of BRCA1 carriers had the triple-negative breast cancer subtype, whereas more BRCA2 carriers exhibited estrogen receptor (ER) + and progesterone receptor (PR) + subtypes. Multivariate logistic regression analysis revealed that a family history of cancer (OR = 2.36, 95% CI = 1.00-5.54), bilateral cancer (OR = 4.78, 95% CI 1.61-14.20), human epidermal growth factor receptor 2 (HER2)- (OR = 8.23, 95% CI 3.25-20.84), and Ki67 ≥ 15% (OR = 3.88, 95% CI 1.41-10.65) were associated with BRCA1/2 mutations, with the age at diagnosis, age at menarche, and premenopausal status serving as covariates. CONCLUSIONS The most common pathogenic variant of the BRCA1 and BRCA2 in breast cancer patients was c.2635G > T and c.5164_5165del, respectively. Additionally, a family history of cancer, bilateral cancer, HER2-, and Ki67 ≥ 15% were identified as independent predictors of BRCA1/2 pathogenic variants.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Risk-reducing mastectomy (RRM) is the most effective breast cancer risk-reduction strategy in BRCA1/2 mutation carriers. We examined factors associated with RRM and its relationship with overall survival (OS). METHODS Patients aged 18-80y at diagnosis of their BRCA1/2 mutation were selected from our institutional database and stratified by RRM receipt. Differences were tested; unadjusted OS was estimated. RESULTS Of the 306 patients, median age was 43y; median follow-up was 41.6mo. Patients undergoing RRM were more often married with a history of pregnancy (both p ≤ 0.05). Of female patients, 23.1% underwent RRM. Two patients had malignancy detected at RRM, and one developed breast cancer after RRM. Higher unadjusted OS was observed with RRM (p = 0.02). CONCLUSIONS Our analyses suggest that family-structure may play a role in a patient's decision to undergo RRM. We also demonstrated RRM is likely associated with improved survival, potentially underscoring the importance of this option for BRCA1/2 mutation carriers.

Abstract
Worldwide, an ever-increasing number of women are prescribed estrogen-modulating therapies (EMTs) for the treatment of breast cancer. In parallel, aging of the global population of women will contribute to risk of both breast cancer and Alzheimer's disease. To address the impact of anti-estrogen therapies on risk of Alzheimer's and neural function, we conducted medical informatic and molecular pharmacology analyses to determine the impact of EMTs on risk of Alzheimer's followed by determination of EMT estrogenic mechanisms of action in neurons. Collectively, these data provide both clinical and mechanistic data indicating that select EMTs exert estrogenic agonist action in neural tissue that are associated with reduced risk of Alzheimer's disease while simultaneously acting as effective estrogen receptor antagonists in breast.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Risk assessment is important for breast cancer prevention and early detection. We aimed to examine whether common risk factors, mammographic features, and breast cancer risk prediction scores of a woman were associated with breast cancer risk for her sisters. METHODS We included 53 051 women from the Karolinska Mammography Project for Risk Prediction of Breast Cancer (KARMA) study. Established risk factors were derived using self-reported questionnaires, mammograms, and single nucleotide polymorphism genotyping. Using the Swedish Multi-Generation Register, we identified 32 198 sisters of the KARMA women (including 5352 KARMA participants and 26 846 nonparticipants). Cox models were used to estimate the hazard ratios of breast cancer for both women and their sisters, respectively. RESULTS A higher breast cancer polygenic risk score, a history of benign breast disease, and higher breast density in women were associated with an increased risk of breast cancer for both women and their sisters. No statistically significant association was observed between breast microcalcifications and masses in women and breast cancer risk for their sisters. Furthermore, higher breast cancer risk scores in women were associated with an increased risk of breast cancer for their sisters. Specifically, the hazard ratios for breast cancer per 1 standard deviation increase in age-adjusted KARMA, Breast and Ovarian Analysis of Disease Incidence and Carrier Estimation Algorithm (BOADICEA), and Tyrer-Cuzick risk scores were 1.16 (95% confidence interval [CI] = 1.07 to 1.27), 1.23 (95% CI = 1.12 to 1.35), and 1.21 (95% CI = 1.11 to 1.32), respectively. CONCLUSION A woman's breast cancer risk factors are associated with her sister's breast cancer risk. However, the clinical utility of these findings requires further investigation.

Abstract
PURPOSE To determine the prevalence of food insecurity (FI) among females with a history of breast cancer compared to females without cancer in the USA and the sociodemographic characteristics that may explain their FI. METHODS Using the 2019 National Health Interview (NHIS) survey that included the US Department of Agriculture's (USDA's) 10-item Household Food Security Survey Module, participants with high/moderate food security were considered food secure and low/very low food security were considered food insecure. Analyses accounted for complex survey design and included descriptive statistics, bivariate analyses, and multivariate regression analyses. RESULTS Eligible females (40+ years old) included 557 with a history of breast cancer and 9678 without a cancer history. FI was experienced by an estimated 4.4% of females with breast cancer, compared to 9.3% of females without cancer. Controlling for age, race/ethnicity, education level, general health status, and body mass index, the prevalence ratio between the two study groups was 0.50 (95% CI 0.33-0.78). CONCLUSIONS In this national sample, the prevalence of FI among females with a history breast cancer was lower than females without a history of cancer. IMPLICATIONS FOR CANCER SURVIVORS FI is low among breast cancer survivors, and routine FI screening among breast cancer survivors may not be warranted for all patients. Healthcare providers, however, should be aware of FI as a social determinant of health and consider it when there are known financial issues among cancer survivors.

Abstract
PURPOSE This project aimed to evaluate the relationship between the suppressor of cytokine signaling-1 (SOCS1) - 1478 CA > del genetic variation and breast cancer susceptibility. Moreover, we investigated the SOCS1 mRNA expression level in cancerous tissues. METHODS A total of 100 patients with breast cancer and 120 healthy individuals were selected. Genomic DNA was extracted from blood. SOCS1 genotyping and relative gene expression were performed using ARMS-PCR (Amplification-Refractory Mutation System-Polymerase Chain Reaction) and real-time PCR, respectively. RESULTS In breast cancer patients, the prevalence of genotype frequencies of SOCS1 (- 1478 CA > del) CA/CA, CA/del, and del/del was 52, 31, and 17%, respectively. Among controls, the distribution of CA/CA, CA/del, and del/del was 63, 15, and 22%, respectively. The chi-square test reported that a significant difference was observed in the genotypic distribution of SOCS1 (- 1478 CA > del) polymorphism between cases and controls (χ2 = 8.08, P = 0.01). In addition, the presence of the CA/del genotype was associated with an elevated risk of breast cancer (in the codominant model: OR 2.51; 95% CI 1.27-4.96, P = 0.007 and in the over dominant model: OR 2.54; 95% CI 1.32-4.90, P = 0.005). However, there was no significant difference in allelic distributions between the groups (P > 0.05). There was no significant difference in the breast cancer risk associated with the dominant and recessive genetic models when the reference was CA/CA and CA/CA + CA/del genotype, respectively (P = 0.09 and P = 0.38). Moreover, the expression of SOCS1 decreased in cancerous tissues as compared to the adjacent non-cancerous tissues (P < 0.0001). CONCLUSION In conclusion, a functional SOCS1 promoter polymorphism (- 1478 CA > del) may affect breast cancer susceptibility.

Abstract
PURPOSE The purpose of this study is to gain an in-depth understanding of the intraoperative waiting period experience and needs response of primary caregivers of patients with breast cancer. METHOD Using a purposive sampling method, 16 primary caregivers of patients with breast cancer admitted to the Department of Breast Surgery of Shanxi Bethune Hospital from January to May 2022 were selected as study subjects. Semistructured in-depth interviews were conducted using a qualitative research method. RESULTS Five themes were extracted from the levels of safety and security, information transfer, emotion management, psychological adjustment and role adaptation: safety first and intraoperative care, lack of information and misdirection, negative emotions and tired of coping, ineffective worry and overthinking, and role multiplicity and bearing alone, respectively. CONCLUSION The intraoperative waiting period for primary caregivers of patients with breast cancer felt multidimensional and had less than optimal needs satisfaction. Healthcare professionals should use the existing needs as an entry point to give appropriate interventions to enhance the coping ability of caregivers of patients with breast cancer.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE Due to the high prevalence of breast and gynecological cancers among women, it is crucial to identify the risk factors of these cancers. Thus, the present study aimed to evaluate the relationship between breast and gynecological cancers and infertility and its treatments in women suffering from these cancers. METHODS This case-control study was conducted with the participation of 400 people (200 women with breast and gynecological cancers and 200 healthy women without a history of cancer) in hospitals and health centers in Tabriz, Iran, in 2022. Data were collected using a four-part researcher-made questionnaire including sociodemographic characteristics, obstetric characteristics, information related to cancer, and information related to infertility and its treatments. RESULT s Based on the multivariable logistic regression model and by controlling sociodemographic and obstetric characteristics as possible confounding variables, women with cancer had an infertility history almost four times more than women who did not have a history of cancer (OR = 3.56; 95% CI: 1.36-9.33; P = 0.010). Women with breast cancer had an infertility history five times more than women without a history of breast cancer (OR = 5.11; 95% CI: 1.68-15.50; P = 0.004). The infertility history of women with gynecological cancer was more than three times that of the control group. However, there was no statistically significant difference between the two groups (OR = 3.36; 95% CI: 0.99-11.47; P = 0.053). CONCLUSION Infertility and its treatments may be involved in increasing the risk of breast and gynecological cancers.

Abstract
The objective of this study was to investigate the clinical significance and roles of tumor progression locus 2 (TPL2) and peptidyl-prolyl cis-trans isomerase 1 (Pin1) in the occurrence and development of breast invasive ductal carcinoma (IDC). Immunohistochemistry was used to detect the expression of TPL2 and Pin1 in human breast tissues, which included normal breast tissues (Normal), tissues with fibrocystic changes (FCC), ductal carcinoma in situ (DCIS), and IDC. The roles of TPL2 and Pin1 in the occurrence and development of IDC, as well as the correlation between their expression levels and clinicopathological parameters, were analyzed. Compared with Normal and FCC groups, the overexpression of TPL2 and Pin1 was significantly increased in DCIS and IDC groups (DCIS vs Normal: P = 0.002/P < 0.001; IDC vs Normal: P = 0.007/P = 0.003; DCIS vs. FCC: P = 0.008/P = 0.004; IDC vs. FCC: P = 0.04/P = 0.043). The expression levels of TPL2 and Pin1 were positively correlated in DCIS and IDC groups (P = 0.001, P = 0.011). In the IDC group, the Ki67 level in the TPL2 overexpression group was significantly lower than that in the TPL2 low expression group (P = 0.02). The TPL2 overexpression rate was significantly higher in IDC with histological grades 1-2 than that in IDC with histological grade 3 (P = 0.029). The TPL2 overexpression rate in IDC with tumor-node-metastasis (TNM) stage I was significantly higher than that in IDC with TNM stages II-III (P = 0.035). We conclude that TPL2 and Pin1 may synergistically promote the occurrence and development of IDC, but TPL2 overexpression may be an early molecular event in IDC development. TPL2 overexpression is significantly related with IDC with lower malignancy or earlier TNM stage, suggesting that the prognosis of IDC patients with TPL2 overexpression may be better and TPL2 overexpression may be a predictor of good prognosis in IDC.

Abstract
Breast cancer is the most common malignant disease and the leading cause of mortality among women worldwide. Antineoplastic chemotherapy is one of its primary treatments, typically based on the class of drugs known as taxanes. Despite their proven therapeutic efficacy, these drugs can induce severe toxicities, leading to dose limitations or even treatment discontinuation. The objective of this study was to describe the clinical-epidemiological profile, risk factors, and toxicities of taxane-based chemotherapy treatment in women with breast cancer in the Amazon region. This is a cross-sectional, quantitative, and descriptive study conducted with 300 women diagnosed with breast cancer undergoing taxane treatment. Most patients were in the 40-49 age range, of brown ethnicity, and had completed elementary school. The majority of patients had risk factors such as alcoholism and a sedentary lifestyles. Most women had their first pregnancy between the ages of 18 and 21, breastfed their children, had menarche between the ages of 12 and 13, and were pre-menopausal and with a family history of cancer. The most frequent histological type was non-special invasive carcinoma and the Luminal B subtype. Most participants in this study showed taxane toxicity, with neurotoxicity being the most frequent. These findings reveal the importance of early detection, comprehensive risk factors, and effective management of treatment toxicities to improve patient outcomes in breast cancer care in the Amazon region.

The discovery of novel biological indicators and metabolic dysregulation, can significantly rely on comprehension of the modified metabolism in cancer, is a research focus. Tissue histology is a critical feature in the diagnostic testing of many ailments, such as cancer. To assess the surgical margin of the tumour on patients, frozen section histology is a tedious, laborious, and typically arbitrary method. Concurrent monitoring of ion images in tissues facilitated by the latest advancements in mass spectrometry imaging (MSI) is far more efficient than optical tissue image analysis utilized in conventional histopathology examination. This article focuses on the "desorption electrospray ionization (DESI)-MSI" technique's most recent advancements and uses in cancer research. DESI-MSI can provide wealthy information based on the variances in metabolites and lipids in normal and cancerous tissues by acquiring ion images of the lipid and metabolite variances on biopsy samples. As opposed to a systematic review, this article offers a synopsis of the most widely employed cutting-edge DESI-MSI techniques in cancer research.

Abstract
Background This nationwide study examined breast cancer (BC) incidence and mortality rates in Hungary between 2011-2019, and the impact of the Covid-19 pandemic on the incidence and mortality rates in 2020 using the databases of the National Health Insurance Fund (NHIF) and Central Statistical Office (CSO) of Hungary. Methods Our nationwide, retrospective study included patients who were newly diagnosed with breast cancer (International Codes of Diseases ICD)-10 C50) between Jan 1, 2011 and Dec 31, 2020. Age-standardized incidence and mortality rates (ASRs) were calculated using European Standard Populations (ESP). Results 7,729 to 8,233 new breast cancer cases were recorded in the NHIF database annually, and 3,550 to 4,909 all-cause deaths occurred within BC population per year during 2011-2019 period, while 2,096 to 2,223 breast cancer cause-specific death was recorded (CSO). Age-standardized incidence rates varied between 116.73 and 106.16/100,000 PYs, showing a mean annual change of -0.7% (95% CI: -1.21%-0.16%) and a total change of -5.41% (95% CI: -9.24 to -1.32). Age-standardized mortality rates varied between 26.65-24.97/100,000 PYs (mean annual change: -0.58%; 95% CI: -1.31-0.27%; p=0.101; total change: -5.98%; 95% CI: -13.36-2.66). Age-specific incidence rates significantly decreased between 2011 and 2019 in women aged 50-59, 60-69, 80-89, and ≥90 years (-8.22%, -14.28%, -9.14%, and -36.22%, respectively), while it increased in young females by 30.02% (95%CI 17,01%- 51,97%) during the same period. From 2019 to 2020 (in first COVID-19 pandemic year), breast cancer incidence nominally decreased by 12% (incidence rate ratio [RR]: 0.88; 95% CI: 0.69-1.13; 2020 vs. 2019), all-cause mortality nominally increased by 6% (RR: 1.06; 95% CI: 0.79-1.43) among breast cancer patients, and cause-specific mortality did not change (RR: 1.00; 95%CI: 0.86-1.15). Conclusion The incidence of breast cancer significantly decreased in older age groups (≥50 years), oppositely increased among young females between 2011 and 2019, while cause-specific mortality in breast cancer patients showed a non-significant decrease. In 2020, the Covid-19 pandemic resulted in a nominal, but not statistically significant, 12% decrease in breast cancer incidence, with no significant increase in cause-specific breast cancer mortality observed during 2020.

Abstract
Breast cancer is the most commonly diagnosed cancer in women. Associated psychological symptoms include stress, adjustment difficulties, anxiety, depression, impaired cognitive function, sleep disturbances, altered body image, sexual dysfunction, and diminished overall well-being. Distress screening and assessment identifies women who will benefit from therapeutic interventions. Addressing these symptoms improves compliance with treatment and outcomes including disease-related outcomes, psychological symptoms, and quality of life. The most effective treatments include teaching coping skills such as expressing emotion, along with other structured cognitive behavioral, interpersonal, and mindfulness approaches. Patients should be provided these psychosocial supports throughout their cancer journey.

Abstract
EGF-containing fibulin-like extracellular matrix protein 1 (EFEMP1) has been associated to a variety of malignancies. Because EFEMP1 can act as both a tumor suppressor and an oncogene, this study aimed to evaluate the expression of EFEMP1 at mRNA and protein in breast cancer and to ascertain the diagnostic and prognostic value of EFEMP1 in relation to clinical features of breast cancer. Several bioinformatics websites such as GEPIA and Oncomine databases were used to analyze the mRNA level of EFEMP1. Immunohistochemistry assay was used to detect EFEMP1 immunoexpression using tissue microarray (TMA) and clinical breast cancer samples. EFEMP1 was shown to be overexpressed in breast cancer in some study cohorts while being low expressed in others. In TMA, 86 patients (39.1%) with a high H-score and 134 patients (60.9%) with a low H-score had EFEMP1 positive for breast cancer. While HER2 breast cancer and normal breast tissues had the lowest expression of EFEMP1, it was shown to be highly expressed in Luminal B, A, and TNBC. EFEMP1 H-score is associated with tumor stage and indicates poor overall survival in breast cancer. EFEMP1 H-score was high in the clinical tumor tissues compared with adjacent normal tissue (n = 20), therefore, it would to be a sensitive biomarker for breast cancer. EFEMP1 is a key indicator for assessing the clinical prognosis and diagnosis of patients with breast cancer, as evidenced by the higher expression of EFEMP1 in tumor tissue compared to normal tissue and its association with poor overall survival.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE The aim of this study is to assess the effects of a prehabilitation program (PREOPtimize), consisting of Nordic Walking and resistance training exercises plus health education among patients with breast cancer, who are receiving neoadjuvant therapy to enhance postoperative functionality of the affected arm. A secondary aim will be to compare the short-term effects of the intervention on other patient-reported outcome measures. METHODS This will be an assessor-blind, randomized controlled trial with a parallel group design conducted at a tertiary hospital. A sample of 64 patients with breast cancer scheduled for surgery and undergoing neoadjuvant chemotherapy will be recruited for the trial and randomly allocated to either (1) a prehabilitation program consisting of 2 weekly sessions of 75 minutes of Nordic Walking, muscle strengthening exercises, and health education sessions conducted between the fourth month of treatment and surgery or (2) usual care. Patients in both groups will be assessed at baseline, before surgery, and at 1 and 3 months after surgery. Assessed outcomes include functionality of the affected arm (QuickDash), arm volume, range of motion, handgrip strength, pain, fatigue, functional capacity, physical activity levels, and health-related quality of life. Adherence to the intervention in the prehabilitation group and adverse events will also be recorded. IMPACT Prehabilitation for patients affected by breast cancer is rarely implemented in clinical practice. The results obtained with the PREOPtimize trial could show that prehabilitation is a feasible intervention for patients with breast cancer receiving neoadjuvant therapy that might enhance postoperative recovery of upper arm function as well as improve overall physical performance and health-related quality of life.

Abstract
INTRODUCTION Nowadays chemotherapy in breast cancer patients is optionally applied neoadjuvant, which allows for testing of tumor response to the chemotherapeutical treatment in vivo, as well as allowing a greater number of patients to benefit from a subsequent breast-conserving surgery. MATERIAL AND METHODS We compared breast ultrasonography, mammography, and clinical examination (palpation) results with postoperative histopathological findings after neoadjuvant chemotherapy, aiming to determine the most accurate prediction of complete remission and tumor-free resection margins. To this end, clinical and imaging data of 184 patients (193 tumors) with confirmed diagnosis of breast cancer and neoadjuvant therapy were analyzed. RESULTS After chemotherapy, tumors could be assessed by palpation in 91.7%, by sonography in 99.5%, and by mammography in 84.5% (chi-square p < 0.0001) of cases. Although mammography proved more accurate in estimating the exact neoadjuvant tumor size than breast sonography in total numbers (136/163 (83.44%) vs. 142/192 (73.96%), n.s.), 29 tumors could be assessed solely by means of breast sonography. A sonographic measurement was feasible in 192 cases (99.48%) post-chemotherapy and in all cases prior to chemotherapy. CONCLUSIONS We determined a superiority of mammography and breast sonography over clinical palpation in predicting neoadjuvant tumor size. However, neither examination method can predict either pCR or tumor margins with high confidence.

Abstract
This study aimed to systematically evaluate the impact of omega-3 fatty acids on the health outcomes of women with breast cancer in electronic databases (PubMed, Scopus, ProQuest, Web of Science, and Cochrane Library) for interventional studies. The risk of bias and the quality of the included articles were assessed by Cochrane Collaboration Handbook guidance. The statistical analyses were not conducted because of the heterogeneity of the included studies. Of 3676 identified articles, 11 articles were included in this study. The majority of the included studies were not of high quality. Median progression time and overall survival significantly improved. Additionally, surgical site healing complications and infection rates decreased. There was a significant decrease in perceived stress, sleep disturbance, depression, pain, joint stiffness, and fatigue throughout the intervention. Moreover, omega-3 fatty acids consumption significantly increased the total serum omega-3, EPA, and DHA, and decreased the omega-6: omega-3 ratio, total leukocytes, lymphocytes, leptin, and CRP, accordingly. Mild gastrointestinal symptoms were reported in only two studies without clinically relevant adverse events. Omega-3 fatty acids may cause improvement in physical, mental, and some inflammatory and metabolic indices during treatment or posttreatment course of breast cancer patients. Due to the possibility of free radical formation, omega-3 FAs supplementation and consumption must be done very carefully.

Abstract
Diabetes mellitus is a burdensome disease that affects various cellular functions through altered glucose metabolism. Several reports have linked diabetes to cancer development; however, the exact molecular mechanism of how diabetes-related traits contribute to cancer progression is not fully understood. The current study aimed to explore the molecular mechanism underlying the potential effect of hyperglycemia combined with hyperinsulinemia on the progression of breast cancer cells. To this end, gene dysregulation induced by the exposure of MCF7 breast cancer cells to hyperglycemia (HG), or a combination of hyperglycemia and hyperinsulinemia (HGI), was analyzed using a microarray gene expression assay. Hyperglycemia combined with hyperinsulinemia induced differential expression of 45 genes (greater than or equal to two-fold), which were not shared by other treatments. On the other hand, in silico analysis performed using a publicly available dataset (GEO: GSE150586) revealed differential upregulation of 15 genes in the breast tumor tissues of diabetic patients with breast cancer when compared with breast cancer patients with no diabetes. SLC26A11, ALDH1A3, MED20, PABPC4 and SCP2 were among the top upregulated genes in both microarray data and the in silico analysis. In conclusion, hyperglycemia combined with hyperinsulinemia caused a likely unique signature that contributes to acquiring more carcinogenic traits. Indeed, these findings might potentially add emphasis on how monitoring diabetes-related metabolic alteration as an adjunct to diabetes therapy is important in improving breast cancer outcomes. However, further detailed studies are required to decipher the role of the highlighted genes, in this study, in the pathogenesis of breast cancer in patients with a different glycemic index.

Abstract
The treatment of breast cancer (BC) calls for targeted methods to overcome chemoresistance (CR). This study is expected to figure out the mechanism of signal transducer and activator of transcription 5 (STAT5) in NOD-like receptor family pyrin domain containing 3 (NLRP3)-mediated pyroptosis and CR in BC cells. BC cell lines resistant to paclitaxel (PTX) and cis-diamminedichloro-platinum (DDP) were prepared. Expressions of Stat5, miR-182, and NLRP3 were detected. The 50% inhibition concentration (IC50 ), proliferation, colony formation, apoptosis rate, and levels of pyroptosis-related factors were appraised and determined. The binding relationships of Stat5 and miR-182, and miR-182 and NLRP3 were testified. Stat5 and miR-182 were highly expressed in drug-resistant BC cells. Silencing Stat5 reduced proliferation and colony formation of drug-resistant BC cells, coincided with elevated levels of pyroptosis-related factors. Stat5 bound to the promoter region of miR-182 to promote miR-182 expression. miR-182 inhibition reversed the role of silencing Stat5 in BC cells. miR-182 inhibited NLRP3. Overall, Stat5 bound to the promoter region of miR-182 to promote miR-182 expression and inhibit NLRP3 transcription, thereby suppressing pyroptosis and enhancing CR of BC cells.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Despite the rising incidence and mortality of breast cancer among women in China, there are currently few predictive models for breast cancer in the Chinese population and with low accuracy. This study aimed to identify major genetic and life-style risk factors in a Chinese population for potential application in risk assessment models. METHODS A case-control study in southeast China was conducted including 1321 breast cancer patients and 2045 controls during 2013-2016, in which the data were randomly divided into a training set and a test set on a 7:3 scale. The association between genetic and life-style factors and breast cancer was examined using logistic regression models. Using AUC curves, we also compared the performance of the logistic model to machine learning models, namely LASSO regression model and support vector machine (SVM), and the scores calculated from CKB, Gail and Tyrer-Cuzick models in the test set. RESULTS Among all factors considered, the best model was achieved when polygenetic risk score, lifestyle, and reproductive factors were considered jointly in the logistic regression model (AUC = 0.73; 95% CI: 0.70-0.77). The models created in this study performed better than those using scores calculated from the CKB, Gail, and Tyrer-Cuzick models. However, the logistic model and machine learning models did not significantly differ from one another. CONCLUSION In summary, we have found genetic and lifestyle risk predictors for breast cancer with moderate discrimination, which might provide reference for breast cancer screening in southeast China. Further population-based studies are needed to validate the model for future applications in personalized breast cancer screening programs.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Epidemiological data indicate that the role of environmental factors on breast cancer (BC) incidence remains undetermined. Our daily life exposure to aluminium (Al) is suspected to influence BC development. This review proposes a state of the art on the association between Al and BC risk combined with a critical point of view on the subject. METHODS We searched the PubMed database using terms related to Al and BC up to November 18, 2022. Reports were eligible if they were cohort or case-control studies or meta-analyses. FINDINGS Six studies focused on the relationship between deodorant and antiperspirant use and BC incidence and didn't produce consistent results. Among 13 studies relating Al content in mammary tissues and BC risk, results are not unanimous to validate higher Al content in tumor tissues compared to healthy ones. We detail parameters that could explain this conclusion: the absence of statistical adjustments on BC risk factors in studies, the confusion between deodorant and antiperspirant terms, the non-assessment of global Al exposure, and the focus on Al in mammary tissues whereas a profile of several metals seems more appropriate. The clinical studies are retrospective. They were carried out on small cohorts and without a long follow-up. On the other hand, studies on cell lines have shown the carcinogenic potential of aluminum. Moreover, studies considered BC as a unique group whereas BC is a heterogeneous disease with multiple tumor subtypes determining the tumor aggressiveness. CONCLUSION In light of the precautionary principle and based on the data obtained, it is better to avoid antiperspirants that contain Al. Deodorants without aluminum are not implicated in breast cancer, either clinically or fundamentally.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE A comparative analysis of the association between sedentary behavior versus physical activity levels and tumor staging in women with breast cancer. METHODS The present research adopted a cross-sectional study design to recruit a total of 55 adult and elderly women newly diagnosed with breast cancer for data collection and analysis. Inclusion criteria involved patients in procession of a formal approval for participation in the study by the treating physician and those not hitherto subjected to the first cycle of chemotherapy. RESULTS Physical activity levels did not influence the pathological stage of breast cancer (p=0.26) or histological tumor grade (p=0.07) in the analyzed subjects. However, there was a significant association between physical activity levels and responsiveness to hormones (epidermal growth factor receptor (HER2), p<0.05) in the analyzed subjects. Significant difference was detected in the histological tumor grade in relation to the mean time spent sitting during the weekend (p<0.05). However, sedentary behavior had no influence on the tumor stage (p>0.05). CONCLUSION Physical activity levels did not influence the tumor stage and histological tumor grade. Sedentary behavior had a significant influence on the histological tumor grade.

Abstract
Female breast cancer is the most frequently diagnosed cancer. The long-term survival rates for this disease have increased; however, the unique demand for high-quality healthcare to improve breast-cancer survivorship are commonly unmet. The Mediterranean diet (MD) is associated with reduced breast-cancer risk and various health-related benefits in the general population, but its effect on breast-cancer survivors remains uncertain. The objective of this systematic review and meta-analysis was to assess current evidence from randomised controlled trials (RCTs) and observational studies (cohort, cross-sectional and case-control) regarding the effect of the MD on survival, quality of life (QoL) and health-related outcomes in female breast-cancer survivors. MEDLINE, EMBASE, Web of Science and the Cochrane library were searched for studies published before and including April 2022. Two reviewers independently screened the literature and completed the data extraction and risk-of-bias assessment. Eleven studies (fifteen reports) were included, including two RCTs, four cohort and five cross-sectional studies. The meta-analysis of the cohort studies showed strong evidence of an inverse association between high adherence to the MD and all-cause mortality (hazard ratio (HR) 0.78, 95% confidence interval (CI) 0.66-0.93, I2: 0%, Grading of Recommendations Assessment, Development and Evaluation (GRADE) = low certainty of evidence) and non-breast-cancer mortality (HR 0.67, 95% CI 0.50-0.90, I2: 0%, GRADE = very low certainty of evidence). The associations between high adherence to the MD and QoL and health-related parameters were not consistent. These findings highlight the potential of adherence to the MD to reduce the risk of mortality. Future research with better study designs, as well as more consistent measurements of QoL and MD adherence, taking into account changes in MD adherence over time and population subgroups, is needed to provide more robust evidence on the survival, QoL and health-related outcomes in BC survivors.

Abstract
Breast cancer is a significant public health problem globally and prevention strategies have become of great interest as its incidence rises. Exploring the connection between dietary patterns and the reduction of breast cancer risk is considered a promising approach. High levels of fiber, phytochemicals, a good antioxidant profile, and a composition of advantageous fatty acids are characteristics of healthy dietary programs such as the Mediterranean diet. This review summarized and discussed the active compounds that are considered important in preventing breast cancer, including dietary components from recent related reports. These include polyunsaturated fatty acids, fiber, phytochemicals, and alcohol. Although the exact mechanism for preventing breast cancer using these dietary factors is not well understood, the combination of all the elements in a healthy diet plays a role in reducing breast cancer risk. Considering the elevated probability of breast cancer relapse and mortality, it is crucial to investigate the correlation between a nutritious dietary pattern and breast cancer, while identifying bioactive components that have the potential to mitigate the risk of breast cancer incidence.

Abstract
BACKGROUND AND PURPOSE Regional nodal irradiation (RNI) is commonly administered in patients with breast cancer with node-positive disease to prevent cancer recurrence. The purpose of this study is to identify whether RNI is associated with greater acute symptom burden from baseline to 1 to 3 months post completion of radiotherapy (RT) when compared to localized RT. MATERIALS AND METHODS Patient and treatment characteristics were collected prospectively for breast cancer patients with and without RNI from February 2018 to September 2020. The Edmonton Symptom Assessment System (ESAS) and Patient-Reported Functional Status (PRFS) tool were completed by patients at baseline, weekly during RT, and at a 1- to 3-month follow-up visit. The Wilcoxon rank-sum or Fisher exact tests were used to compare variables between patients with or without RNI. RESULTS A total of 781 patients were included in the analysis. Baseline symptom reporting was similar between cohorts, with the exception of PRFS scores (p = 0.0023), which were worse in patients receiving RNI. Across all time points, differences in outcomes between cohorts were minimal, except for lack of appetite (p = 0.03) and PRFS scores (p = 0.049), which were significantly aggravated in patients treated with RNI. CONCLUSION There is insufficient evidence to suggest that RNI is associated with greater symptom burden as assessed with the ESAS. Further research should be conducted over a longer time period to determine the impact of late effects of RNI on patient-reported symptoms.

Abstract
As the transgender and gender diverse (TGD) population ages, more transfeminine and transmasculine individuals present to clinic to initiate or continue their gender-affirming care at older ages. Currently available guidelines on gender-affirming care are excellent resources for the provision of gender-affirming hormone therapy (GAHT), primary care, surgery, and mental health care but are limited in their scope as to whether recommendations require tailoring to older TGD adults. Data that inform guideline-recommended management considerations, while informative and increasingly evidence-based, mainly come from studies of younger TGD populations. Whether results from these studies, and therefore recommendations, can or should be extrapolated to aging TGD adults remains to be determined. In this perspective review, we acknowledge the lack of data in older TGD adults and discuss considerations for evaluating cardiovascular disease, hormone-sensitive cancers, bone health and cognitive health, gender-affirming surgery, and mental health in the older TGD population on GAHT.

Abstract
C-X-C motif chemokine ligand 1 (CXCL1) is a member of the CXC chemokine subfamily and a ligand for CXCR2. Its main function in the immune system is the chemoattraction of neutrophils. However, there is a lack of comprehensive reviews summarizing the significance of CXCL1 in cancer processes. To fill this gap, this work describes the clinical significance and participation of CXCL1 in cancer processes in the most important reproductive cancers: breast cancer, cervical cancer, endometrial cancer, ovarian cancer, and prostate cancer. The focus is on both clinical aspects and the significance of CXCL1 in molecular cancer processes. We describe the association of CXCL1 with clinical features of tumors, including prognosis, ER, PR and HER2 status, and TNM stage. We present the molecular contribution of CXCL1 to chemoresistance and radioresistance in selected tumors and its influence on the proliferation, migration, and invasion of tumor cells. Additionally, we present the impact of CXCL1 on the microenvironment of reproductive cancers, including its effect on angiogenesis, recruitment, and function of cancer-associated cells (macrophages, neutrophils, MDSC, and Treg). The article concludes by summarizing the significance of introducing drugs targeting CXCL1. This paper also discusses the significance of ACKR1/DARC in reproductive cancers.
