Urogenital and pelvic complications in the Ehlers-Danlos syndromes and associated hypermobility spectrum disorders: A scoping review

The Spider: a visual, multisystemic symptom impact questionnaire for people with hypermobility-related disorders-validation in adults

INTRODUCTION

Hypermobility spectrum disorders (HSD) and hypermobile Ehlers-Danlos syndrome (hEDS) are often accompanied by varied and complex multisystemic comorbid symptoms/conditions. The Spider questionnaire was developed to evaluate the presence and impact of eight common multisystemic comorbidities. Thirty-one questions across eight symptom domains assess neuromusculoskeletal, pain, fatigue, cardiac dysautonomia, urogenital, gastrointestinal, anxiety, and depression symptoms. This study aimed to evaluate the Spider's construct validity in adults.

METHOD

A cross-sectional observational study was conducted over four stages. Three international patient charities aided recruitment of participants through social media and website advertisements. Adults aged 18 to 65 years, with and without HSD/hEDS, were invited to participate. Validated, frequently used comparator questionnaires were used to establish convergent validity of Spider symptom domains. A control group was recruited for known-group validity analysis. Participants answered each Spider domain and the corresponding comparator questionnaire via surveys hosted by REDCap. Anonymous data were analysed using SPSS. Convergent validity was assessed through Spearman's correlational analysis and known-group validity through Mann-Whitney U analysis.

RESULTS

A total of 11,151 participants were recruited across the four stages. Statistically significant, moderate-to-strong correlations were found between all Spider domains and their comparators (p < 0.001, r = 0.63 to 0.80). Known-group validity analysis showed statistically significant differences (p < 0.001) between the hypermobile and control groups in all eight domains.

CONCLUSIONS

Convergent and known-group validity of the Spider was established with adults. These results suggest the Spider can measure the presence and impact of multisystemic comorbid symptoms/conditions in adults with HSD/hEDS, providing a tool which guides multidisciplinary management. Chronic Pain and Joint Hypermobility: A Brief Diagnostic Review for Clinicians and the Potential Application of Infrared Thermography in Screening Hypermobile Inflamed Joints

Joint hypermobility syndromes, particularly chronic pain associated with this condition, including Hypermobile Ehlers-Danlos Syndrome (hEDS) and Hypermobility Spectrum Disorders (HSD), present diagnostic challenges due to their multifactorial origins and remain poorly understood from biomechanical and genomic-molecular perspectives. Recent diagnostic guidelines have differentiated hEDS, HSD, and benign joint hypermobility, providing a more objective diagnostic framework. However, incorrect diagnoses and underdiagnoses persist, leading to prolonged journeys for affected individuals. Musculoskeletal manifestations, chronic pain, dysautonomia, and gastrointestinal symptoms illustrate the multifactorial impact of these conditions, affecting both the physical and emotional well-being of affected individuals. Infrared thermography (IRT) emerges as a promising tool for joint assessment, especially in detecting inflammatory processes. Thermal distribution patterns offer valuable insights into joint dysfunctions, although the direct correlation between pain and inflammation remains challenging. The prevalence of neuropathies among hypermobile individuals accentuates the discordance between pain perception and thermographic findings, further complicating diagnosis and management. Despite its potential, the clinical integration of IRT faces challenges, with conflicting evidence hindering its adoption. However, studies demonstrate objective temperature disparities between healthy and diseased joints, especially under dynamic thermography, suggesting its potential utility in clinical practice. Future research focused on refining diagnostic criteria and elucidating the underlying mechanisms of hypermobility syndromes will be essential to improve diagnostic accuracy and enhance patient care in this complex and multidimensional context.

Exploring the biopsychosocial impact of hypermobility spectrum disorders and Ehlers-Danlos syndrome in an adult population: a protocol for a scoping review

BACKGROUND

Conditions such as hypermobility spectrum disorders (HSD) and Ehlers-Danlos syndrome (EDS) are most often diagnosed when an individual has joint flexibility beyond the normal physiological limits. Additional characteristics and symptoms include pain and fatigue with individuals also being more likely to report feelings of anxiety and depression. Due to the varied presentation of these conditions, there is a lack of understanding amongst the various healthcare professionals (HCPs) individuals present to, leading to delayed diagnoses and negative experiences for the individuals themselves. This scoping review therefore aims to map the known biopsychosocial impact of adults with HSD and EDS.

METHODS

The scoping review will follow the six-step framework as outlined by Arskey and O'Malley and the Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses for Scoping Reviews (PRISMA-ScR) checklist. The search will be conducted using the following databases: AMED, CINAHL, Cochrane Library, Embase, MEDLINE, PsycINFO, PubMed PEDro. Full-text published articles in the English language (excluding literature and systematic reviews) with adult samples (over the age of 18 years) and a diagnosis of a HSD or EDS, published between 2012 and 2022, will be included in the review.

DISCUSSION

This review will aim to explore the existing literature for the reported biopsychosocial impact of adults with a HSD or EDS. It will also aim to further acknowledge the gaps in understanding of the condition, how the condition and the impact of the condition is being measured and what HCPs are involved in supporting such individuals. These gaps will be used to inform a future systematic review. It is the overall goal to increase the knowledge of HCPs and the quality of life of adults living with a joint hypermobility condition.

Concomitant uterus agenesia and Marfan syndrome with systemic sclerosis: A rare case report

It seems that the association of two connective tissue disorders, including Marfan syndrome and systemic sclerosis, the first is associated with the loosening of the subcutaneous tissue and the second with its tightening, is a very interesting and controversial paradox at the same time and need finding possible genetic etiologies.

Co-Created Solutions for Perinatal Professionals and Childbearing Needs for People with Hypermobile Ehlers-Danlos Syndrome and Hypermobility Spectrum Disorders

Individuals living with hypermobile Ehlers-Danlos syndrome (hEDS) and Hypermobility Spectrum Disorders (HSD) have reported feeling discredited and unsupported by healthcare professionals. However, the level of knowledge about hEDS/HSD among maternity staff remains unknown. Informed by patient and public involvement, this research aimed to investigate maternity staff's knowledge and confidence in supporting people with hEDS/HSD, examine people with hEDS/HSD's experiences of perinatal care, and co-create tools to help maternity staff support people childbearing with hEDS/HSD. Two online mixed-methods international surveys were completed by childbearing people with hEDS/HSD (N = 955) and maternity staff (N = 307). This was followed by the co-creation of three tools with 17 co-creators and a design team. Two main qualitative themes were identified through thematic analysis: (1) a need for recognition of hEDS/HSD in perinatal care and (2) the delivery of appropriate individualised perinatal care. Quantitatively, people with hEDS/HSD perceived maternity professionals to have a low level of knowledge about the conditions. Respectively, maternity staff reported low levels of confidence in supporting people with hEDS/HSD. The co-created tools provide applicable outputs for both education and practice and include an i-learn module hosted by the Royal College of Midwives, a tool for perinatal records, and infomercials.

Extracutaneous features and complications of the Ehlers-Danlos syndromes: A systematic review

Introduction

The Ehlers-Danlos syndromes (EDS) comprise a group of inherited connective tissue disorders presenting with variable fragility to skin, soft tissue, and certain internal organs, which can cause significant complications, particularly arterial rupture, bowel perforation and joint difficulties. Currently, there are 14 proposed subtypes of EDS, with all except one subtype (hypermobile EDS) having an identified genetic etiology. An understanding of the extracutaneous features and complications within each subtype is key to maximizing clinical care and reducing the risk of further complications.

Methods

A systematic review of EDS-related extracutaneous features and complications was undertaken.

Results

We identified 839 EDS cases that met the inclusion criteria. We noted a high prevalence of joint hypermobility amongst kyphoscoliotic (39/39, 100%), spondylodysplastic (24/25, 96.0%), and hypermobile (153/160, 95.6%) EDS subtypes. The most common musculoskeletal complications were decreased bone density (39/43, 90.7%), joint pain (217/270, 80.4%), and hypotonia/weakness (79/140, 56.4%). Vascular EDS presented with cerebrovascular events (25/153, 16.3%), aneurysm (77/245, 31.4%), arterial dissection/rupture (89/250, 35.5%), and pneumothorax/hemothorax. Chronic pain was the most common miscellaneous complication, disproportionately affecting hypermobile EDS patients (139/157, 88.5%). Hypermobile EDS cases also presented with chronic fatigue (61/63, 96.8%) and gastrointestinal complications (57/63, 90.5%). Neuropsychiatric complications were noted in almost all subtypes.

Discussion

Understanding the extracutaneous features and complications of each EDS subtype may help diagnose and treat EDS prior to the development of substantial comorbidities and/or additional complications.

Anorectal manometry for the diagnosis of pelvic floor disorders in patients with hypermobility spectrum disorders and hypermobile Ehlers-Danlos syndrome

INTRODUCTION

Functional gastrointestinal disorders (FGID) including impaired rectal evacuation are common in patients with Hypermobility Spectrum Disorder (HSD) or Hypermobile Ehlers-Danlos Syndrome (hEDS). The effect of connective tissue pathologies on pelvic floor function in HSD/hEDS remains unclear. We aimed to compare clinical characteristics and anorectal pressure profile in patients with HSD/hEDS to those of age and sex matched controls.

METHODS

We conducted a retrospective review of all FGID patients who underwent high resolution anorectal manometry (HR-ARM) and balloon expulsion test (BET) for evaluation of impaired rectal evacuation. Patients with HSD/hEDS were age and sex matched to a randomly selected cohort of control patients without HSD/hEDS. An abnormal BET was defined as the inability to expel a rectal balloon within 2 minutes. Wilcoxon rank sum test and Fisher's exact test were used to make comparisons and logistic regression model for predictive factors for abnormal evacuation.

RESULTS

A total of 144 patients (72 with HSD/hEDS and 72 controls) were analyzed. HSD/hEDS patients were more likely to be Caucasian (p < 0.001) and nulliparous. Concurrent psychiatric disorders; depression, and anxiety (p < 0.05), and somatic syndromes; fibromyalgia, migraine and sleep disorders (p < 0.001) were more common in these patients. Rate of abnormal BET were comparable among the groups. HDS/hEDS patients had significantly less anal relaxation and higher residual anal pressures during simulated defecation, resulting in significantly more negative rectoanal pressure gradient. The remaining anorectal pressure profile and sensory levels were comparable between the groups. While diminished rectoanal pressure gradient was the determinant of abnormal balloon evacuation in non HSD/hEDS patients, increased anal resting tone and maximum volume tolerated were independent factors associated with an abnormal BET in HSD/hEDS patients. Review of defecography data from a subset of patients showed no significant differences in structural pathologies between HSD/hEDS and non HSD/hEDS patients.

CONCLUSIONS

These results suggest anorectal pressure profile is not compromised by connective tissue pathologies in HSD patients. Whether concurrent psychosomatic disorders or musculoskeletal involvement impact the pelvic floor function in these patients needs further investigation.

Assessment of gastrointestinal function and its' effect on bone mineral density and body composition in hypermobility spectrum disorder and hypermobile Ehlers-Danlos syndrome

BACKGROUND

Hypermobile Ehlers-Danlos Syndrome (hEDS) and Hypermobility Spectrum Disorders (HSD) are associated with hypermobility, musculoskeletal pain, a decreased bone mineral density (BMD) and gastrointestinal (GI) complications. The role of GI symptoms and diet in BMD has not been established in this population. The GI complications can lead to an energy deficit due to lack of essential macronutrients. The primary objective of this study was to determine the severity of GI symptoms compared to body composition and BMD in individuals with hEDS/HSD. The secondary objective is to examine GI symptoms on energy balance, body composition and strength.

METHODOLOGY

This study was IRB approved. Eighteen female participants (aged 28.2 ± 4.9; BMI 22.5 ± 4.9) with a diagnosis of hEDS or HSD and 18 female healthy control participants (aged 28.1 ± 3.8; BMI 22.8 ±3.9) signed consent to participate. Participants were matched by sex, age, and BMI. The Gastrointestinal Symptom Rating Scale (GSRS) was used to investigate severity of GI symptoms. Dual X-ray absorptiometry was used to determine body composition (body fat%, lean body mass (LBM). BMD was measured by Z- scores of both femurs and lumbar spine. Resting metabolic rate (RMR) was measured using indirect calorimetry and strength was determined using a hand grip dynamometer.

RESULTS

All hEDS/HSD participants reported GI symptoms. There was no difference in body composition between hEDS/HSD and controls. Participants with hEDS/HSD had lower BMD both femoral z scores (p=0.02,0.004) and spine z scores (p= 0.04). There was no difference in caloric intake between groups; yet both groups demonstrated caloric deficits. Additionally, hEDS/HSD consumed less protein and more carbohydrates (p=0.03, p=0.03). There were no differences in grip strength.

CONCLUSIONS

This study identified that pre-menopausal women with hEDS/HSD presented with significant GI complications and lower BMD than age matched controls. The GI complications and the reduced protein intake long-term may have a lasting impact on bone health. This study found that the GSRS identified and quantified GI symptoms in persons with hEDS/HSD. Future studies are needed for the longitudinal effects of a caloric/protein deficit in this population and to help guide future preventive and nutritional treatment approaches in individuals with hEDS/HSD.

International Perspectives on Joint Hypermobility: A Synthesis of Current Science to Guide Clinical and Research Directions

ABSTRACT

There is exponential clinical and research interest in joint hypermobility due to recognition of the complexity of identification, assessment, and its appropriate referral pathways, ultimately impacting management. This state-of-the-science review provides an international, multidisciplinary perspective on the presentation, etiology, and assessment of joint hypermobility, as it presents in those with and without a systemic condition. We synthesize the literature, propose standardizing the use of terminology and outcome measures, and suggest potential management directions. The major topics covered are (i) historical perspectives; (ii) current definitions of hypermobility, laxity, and instability; (iii) inheritance and acquisition of hypermobility; (iv) traditional and novel assessments; (v) strengths and limitations of current assessment tools; (vi) age, sex, and racial considerations; (vii) phenotypic presentations; (viii) generalized hypermobility spectrum disorder and hypermobility Ehlers-Danlos syndrome; and (ix) clinical implications and research directions. A thorough understanding of these topics will equip the reader seeking to manage individuals presenting with joint hypermobility, while mindful of its etiology. Management of generalized joint hypermobility in the context of a complex, multisystem condition will differ from that of acquired hypermobility commonly seen in performing artists, specific athletic populations, posttrauma, and so on. In addition, people with symptomatic hypermobility present predominantly with musculoskeletal symptoms and sometimes systemic symptoms including fatigue, orthostatic intolerance, and gastrointestinal or genitourinary issues. Some also display skeletal deformities, tissue and skin fragility, and structural vascular or cardiac differences, and these warrant further medical follow-up. This comprehensive review on the full spectrum of joint hypermobility will assist clinicians, coaches/sports trainers, educators, and/or researchers in this area.

Exercise and Rehabilitation in People With Ehlers-Danlos Syndrome: A Systematic Review

Objective

To conduct a systematic review examining the effect of exercise and rehabilitation in people with Ehlers-Danlos syndrome (EDS).

Data Sources

The following databases were systematically searched: MEDLINE, MEDLINE In-Process/ePubs, Embase, Cochrane Central Register of Controlled Trials, PsycINFO, and Cumulative Index to Nursing and Allied Health. The final time point captured by the search is November 27, 2020.

Study Selection

Eligible study designs included case-control, case-series, prospective cohort, retrospective cohort, and intervention studies of structured exercise or rehabilitation interventions. Eligible populations included adults (18 years or older) with EDS (all subtypes) and hypermobility spectrum disorders. The search was restricted to articles published in English.

Data Extraction

Data were extracted by 2 independent reviewers. Risk of bias was assessed using the Physiotherapy Evidence Database (PEDro) scale for randomized controlled trials (RCTs) and Risk Of Bias In Nonrandomized Studies of Interventions (ROBINS-I) for non-RCTs. Reporting quality of RCTs was assessed using the Consolidated Standards for Reporting of Trials statement with the harms extension. Reporting was guided by the Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses checklist.

Data Synthesis

The search yielded 10 eligible studies including 330 participants. The study designs included 5 RCTs, 1 cohort, 2 single-arm interventions, 1 retrospective, and 1 feasibility study. All studies showed some improvement in a physical and/or psychological outcome after the intervention period. One adverse event (nonserious) potentially related to the intervention was reported. Of the 5 RCTs, 2 were rated as high quality with low risk of bias using PEDro, and the majority of non-RCTs were rated as critical risk of bias by ROBINS-I.

Conclusions

The results suggest that exercise and rehabilitation may be beneficial for various physical and psychological outcomes. Adequately powered and rigorous RCTs of exercise and rehabilitation interventions for people with EDS are needed.

The Underrecognized Conditions of Hypermobile Ehlers-Danlos Syndrome and Hypermobility Spectrum Disorders in Women

Hypermobile Ehlers-Danlos syndrome and hypermobility spectrum disorders are conditions that disproportionately affect women and can result in morbidity, disability, and a poorer quality of life. These conditions are often not recognized by health care professionals, leading to significant delays in diagnosis, especially in women. Hypermobile Ehlers-Danlos syndrome and hypermobility spectrum disorders are known as complex, multisystemic conditions that are frequently comorbid with autonomic dysfunction, mast cell activation syndrome, and autism. Education of health care professionals, including nurses, on these conditions could lead to earlier diagnosis, with improved management and thus better outcomes for those affected by these conditions.

Implications of Ehlers-Danlos Syndrome in a Patient With Mayer-Rokitansky-Küster-Hauser Syndrome

BACKGROUND

Ehlers-Danlos syndromes (EDS) are a heterogenous group of connective tissue disorders characterized by defective collagen production. Patients with EDS have lax and fragile connective tissue in their joints, skin, blood vessels, and hollow organs. This can lead to, among other complications, joint hypermobility, aneurysms, organ prolapse, and musculoskeletal chronic pain. Given that patients with vaginal agenesis, which occurs with Mayer-Rokitansky-Küster-Hauser (MRKH) syndrome, often require vaginal dilation as part of their treatment, tissue elasticity and fragility are important considerations. This case report aims to describe the intersection of MRKH and EDS and its impact on vaginal dilation.

CASE

A 16-year-old girl with joint hypermobility and type III EDS presented with primary amenorrhea and a karyotype of 46 XX. Magnetic resonance imaging confirmed an absent uterus, cervix, and upper vagina. Physical examination showed Tanner V breasts and Tanner IV pubic hair, and an external genital examination revealed a blind-ending, 1-cm vaginal dimple. The patient was diagnosed with MRKH. Following her diagnosis, she received vaginal dilation instruction and returned for follow-up 2 months later, having quickly progressed to the largest vaginal dilator without symptoms of bleeding, pain, or dysuria. In that timeframe, her vaginal dimple had increased from 1 cm to 7-8 cm in depth, a rate much faster than is typically seen. Because of this rapid progress, a urogenital examination was performed. There was no evidence of urethral abnormality, perforation, or vaginal prolapse.

SUMMARY AND CONCLUSION

Recognition of EDS in patients with Müllerian anomalies has important implications for safe and effective vaginal dilation. All patients using vaginal dilation to lengthen the vagina require education on the technique. This need is heightened in patients with EDS in order to prevent accidental dilation of the urethra due to their tissue elasticity, to avoid tissue prolapse, and to prevent the theoretical risk of vaginal perforation.

Urogynaecology and Ehlers-Danlos syndrome

Ehlers-Danlos syndrome (EDS) can lead to a presentation to urogynaecology services with multiple symptoms including vaginal prolapse, overactive bladder symptoms, voiding dysfunction, bladder pain syndrome, recurrent urinary tracts infections, stress urinary incontinence, recurring bladder diverticula, vesicoureteral reflux, pelvic floor pain or spasms, and complicated postnatal perineal wounds. This article explores the pathophysiology of these conditions in causing urinary urgency, incontinence, and infections; highlighting the key investigations and management considerations for women with EDS including conservative, pharmacological, and surgical.

High rate of dyspareunia and probable vulvodynia in Ehlers-Danlos syndromes and hypermobility spectrum disorders: An online survey

Vulvodynia is debilitating vulvar pain accompanied by dyspareunia (pain with sexual intercourse). Ehlers-Danlos syndromes (EDS) and hypermobility spectrum disorders (HSD) may represent a predisposing factor for vulvodynia given a high rate of dyspareunia in these conditions. We conducted an online survey of women with EDS or HSD to assess rates of dyspareunia and estimate rates of vulvodynia, report rates of comorbid conditions common to EDS or HSD and vulvodynia, and examine rates of conditions contributing to dyspareunia in women with EDS or HSD. Women with EDS or HSD (N = 1,146) recruited via social media were 38.2 ± 11.5 years old, primarily White (94.4%), and resided in the United States (78.5%). 63.7% of participants reported dyspareunia and 50% screened positive for vulvodynia. The rate of comorbid conditions common to EDS or HSD and vulvodynia were: irritable bowel syndrome, 6.5%; fibromyalgia, 40.0%; temporomandibular joint dysfunction, 56.4%; migraine, 6.7%; interstitial cystitis, 1.7%; and mast cell activation syndrome, 10.2%. Participants reporting dyspareunia also reported ovarian cysts, fibroids, or abdominal or pelvic scars, 47.5%; endometriosis, 26.5%; and genital lacerations, 19.3%. Women with EDS or HSD may have a higher rate of vulvodynia (50.0%) than women in the U.S. population at large (8%) and should be assessed for dyspareunia and vulvodynia.

Practical management strategies for benign hypermobility syndromes

PURPOSE OF REVIEW

Patients with symptomatic hypermobility syndrome such as hypermobile Ehlers-Danlos syndromes (hEDS) and hypermobility spectrum disorders (HSD) commonly present to rheumatologists with joint pain and functional disability. Providers often have difficulty with diagnosis due to a lack of knowledge on the range of associated manifestations and the available therapeutic modalities. This review will discuss recent updates on diagnostic measures and treatment options for rheumatologists to help patients navigate hEDS/HSD.

RECENT FINDINGS

This article describes newer diagnostic measures and assessment of hEDS/HSD manifestations. Evidence supporting physical therapy and occupational therapy is provided, as well as recent updates on assistive devices, compressive garments, orthoses, and surgical interventions. Given patient heterogeneity specific guidance about the amount and type of therapies required to produce a beneficial effect is lacking. Treatment should be individualized, and many of the studies focus on regional joint complaints rather than a whole-body approach.

SUMMARY

Physical therapy and occupational therapy remain the cornerstone of treatment.

Pain Symptomatology and Management in Pediatric Ehlers-Danlos Syndrome: A Review

Ehlers-Danlos syndromes (EDS) are a group of connective tissue disorders that manifest with hyperextensibility of joints and skin, and general tissue fragility. While not a major criterion for clinical diagnosis, pain is a frequently endorsed symptom across subtypes of EDS. As such, the present review aims to summarize research to date on pain characteristics and management, and the relationship between such pain symptomatology and quality of life in pediatric EDS. Characteristics of pain, including theorized etiology, relative intensity and extent of pain are described, as well as descriptions of frequently endorsed pain sites (musculoskeletal, and non-musculoskeletal). Interventions related to the management of musculoskeletal (e.g., pharmaceutical intervention, physical therapy) and non-musculoskeletal pain (e.g., pharmaceutical and psychological interventions) are discussed, highlighting the need for additional research related to pediatric pain management in the context of hypermobility syndromes. In addition, the relationship between pain in pediatric EDS and quality of life is described. Finally, limitations of literature to date are described and recommendations for future lines of research are outlined.

Pregnancy management in a patient with stickler syndrome

BACKGROUND

Stickler syndrome is a collagen disorder that can affect multiple organ systems. It is characterized by ocular abnormalities, hearing loss, midfacial hypoplasia, hypermobility, and joint abnormalities. The phenotypic expression of Stickler syndrome can vary among those affected. Since Stickler syndrome is a collagen disorder, it is possible to expect pregnancy complications similar to those reported in other collagen disorders. To our knowledge, there is only one case report in the literature on the management of pregnancy and delivery of a patient with Stickler syndrome.

METHODS/CASE REPORT

A 37-year-old primigravid woman with a diagnosis of Stickler syndrome presented at 9 weeks gestation for prenatal genetic consultation. At 26, the patient had prophylactic laser therapy for lattice degeneration of the retina. At 32, she was found to be heterozygous for the c.1527 G>T variant in the COL2A1 gene, which is associated with ocular abnormalities and autosomal dominant form of Stickler syndrome. Subsequently, she desired to pursue prenatal diagnostic testing for the familial variant. The patient voiced that the results would impact pregnancy management. Amniocentesis was performed at 16 weeks gestation. Results were negative for the maternal COL2A1 variant. Karyotype was normal (46, XX).

RESULTS

A multidisciplinary team using a patient-centered approach including obstetrics, ophthalmology, maternal-fetal medicine, and genetics determined that there were no contraindications for vaginal delivery. At 39 weeks, the patient underwent spontaneous vaginal delivery with no complications.

CONCLUSION

There is a paucity of data available regarding the maternal outcomes of women affected with collagen disorders, especially Stickler Syndrome. This case highlights the importance of accurate genetic diagnosis in the prenatal period and provides information to physicians caring for patients with Stickler syndrome.
