Abstract
Background The biomarker to predict the depression in patients with rosacea was absent. Objective We aimed to explore the potential association between BDNF and depression in patients with rosacea, and also to determine whether serum BDNF level is a potential biomarker for identifying depression in patients with rosacea. Methods The patients with rosacea, rosacea with depression and healthy control were included, clinical evaluation (DLQI, RSSs, BDI-II) and serum BDNF levels detection were performed on subjects, the comparisons and correlation analysis of the obtained data were performed. Results In clinical evaluation, whether DLQI or RSSs, rosacea with depression group was significantly higher compared to rosacea group. Besides, we found the serum BDNF levels were lower in patients with rosacea and rosacea with depression compared to healthy controls, also in the rosacea with depression group, serum BDNF levels were lower than in rosacea patients. Whatever in rosacea or rosacea with depression group, the statistical significance of serum BDNF levels between the different subtypes like the ETR and PPR was not found. In further correlation analysis, we found no correlation between serum BDNF and RSSs in patients with rosacea whatever the subtype of ETR or PPR. Interestingly, we found a negative correlation between serum BDNF levels and BDI-II in rosacea with depression group, the decreased serum BDNF levels were associated with the increased BDI-II, also the ROC confirmed it can evaluate the depression in patients with rosacea. Conclusion Serum BDNF level is a potential biomarker for identifying depression in patients with rosacea.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Rosacea is a common, chronic skin disorder with negative impacts on physical health and social function. The response to therapy plays a critical factor in determining the duration of treatment and developing new medicines. However, it is challenging to assess the efficacy due to its complicated clinical characteristics and nonspecific histopathological findings. AIMS This study aims to review the efficacy evaluation tools for rosacea. METHODS An extensive literature search was conducted using PubMed, Web of Science, and other databases for articles on efficacy evaluation methods for rosacea from 1995 to 2021. RESULTS In clinical practice and scientific research, various methods are available for assessing the curative effect. Evaluation tools based on phenotypes are the most commonly used because they are cheap and straightforward. Various questionnaires also exist to evaluate health-related quality of life. However, the inevitable subjectivity makes it challenging to compare the curative effect among different studies. By contrast, objective assessment tools are more precise and repeatable, such as consecutive standardized skin surface biopsies, computer-aided image analysis, and biophysical parameter assessments. CONCLUSION No single assessment method could balance convenience and accuracy. For improving outcomes and facilitating academic exchanges, a well-validated gold standard evaluation tool is still needed. This review provides an overview of the existing efficacy evaluation methods for rosacea and discusses the relevant details.

Abstract
Background Rosacea is a chronic skin disorder characterized by erythema, flushing, telangiectasia, papules and pustules, phymatous changes, and ocular involvement. The aim of this study was to examine all published research articles in which botulinum toxin was used to treat rosacea and to evaluate the efficacy and safety of this treatment. Methods PubMed, Embase, Cochrane Library, and Web of Science database were used to identify articles eligible for systematic review on March 26, 2021. Prospective or retrospective studies which directly used botulinum toxin to treat rosacea were included and reviewed. Results Nine studies were included in this systematic review. Two were randomized controlled trials, graded as Level 2 for the quality of evidence. The total number of participants was 130, and the number of participants in each study ranged from 1 to 25. The improvement was observed in all studies in signs and symptoms compared with baseline. Adverse events were transitory and self-limited. Conclusion Botulinum toxin could have overall satisfying efficacy and safety in the treatment of rosacea, though limited by small sample size, imperfect study design, and short follow-up visits.

Abstract
Rosacea is a chronic inflammatory disease characterized by facial flushing, erythema, telangiectasia, papules, and pustules. Its pathogenesis has not been fully understood. In 2017, the global ROSacea COnsensus (ROSCO) panel updated the diagnosis, classification, and assessment of rosacea. Phenotype-based treatments and long-term managements have also been recommended. Murine models are a powerful tool in unveiling and dissecting the mechanisms of human diseases. Here, we summarized murine models of rosacea developed or used in previous research, including LL-37 intradermal injection model, KLK-5-induced inflammation model, croton oil inflammation model, 12-O-Tetradecanoylphorbol-13-acetate inflammation model, arachidonic acid inflammation model, RTX-induced vasodilation model, and UVB-induced model. LL-37 injection model has become the most intensively used model in rosacea research. Each model could show the pathophysiological and clinical features of rosacea to some extent. However, no model can show the full picture of the characteristics of rosacea. Improving existed murine models, developing new murine models, and applying them to pathogenesis and treatment research on rosacea are highly warranted in the future.
