Abstract
Older adults in assisted living facilities (ALF) are at risk for low physical activity (PA) and high sedentary behavior (SB), both of which place them at risk for negative health outcomes. The purpose of this scoping review was to synthesize evidence describing the volume of device-measured PA/SB, factors associated with PA/SB, and interventions designed to change PA/SB in older adults living in ALF. Twenty articles representing 15 unique studies were identified from eight electronic databases and grey literature. Residents in ALF spent 96-201 min/day in light PA (n = 2 studies), 1-9.74 min/day in moderate to vigorous PA (n = 2 studies), and 8.5-11.01 hr/day of SB during waking hours (n = 3 studies). Factors associated with PA included 16 personal factors (n = 6 articles), one social factor (n = 2 articles), and two environmental factors (n = 2 articles). Factors associated with SB included 14 personal factors (n = 4 articles) and one social factor (n = 1 article). No intervention successfully changed PA/SB.

Abstract
Background In modern society, achieving high-quality sleep is increasingly challenging. We conducted a study to explore the potential benefits of daytime physical activity and balneotherapy, including mud application and thermal-water bathing, on sleep quality. Methods To assess daytime physical activity and sleep parameters, we actigraphically monitored 127 healthy participants (34.6% male, average age 64.61 ± 0.89 years) during a one-week stay at a spa resort, where they received mud application and thermal-water bathings. Results Participants were divided into three groups based on the timing of mud application. Those receiving mud application before 8:30 a.m. tended to have shorter sleep durations compared to those with later application, especially if it occurred before 7:45 a.m. However, mud application did not significantly affect sleep quality. Three-way ANCOVA revealed a significant effect of daytime physical activity on delta Sleep Efficiency, but post-hoc tests were insignificant. Furthermore, analyzing the duration of daily thermal-water bathings, individuals bathing for over 75 min per day experienced a noteworthy improvement in sleep quality, particularly in terms of delta Sleep Efficiency (2.15 ± 0.9% vs. -0.34 ± 0.31%, p = 0.007). Conclusion Our findings suggest that extended thermal-water bathing may enhance objective aspects of sleep quality. Since balneotherapy is mainly prescribed for individuals with musculoskeletal pathologies or psychological disorders, these findings may encourage doctors to recommend bathing in thermal water also to healthy subjects. Future researchers need to investigate the role of daytime physical activity in depth.

Abstract
INTRODUCTION This study aimed to examine the association between physical activity one month post discharge and mortality over the first-year post discharge among recently hospitalized older adults with dementia. METHODS For this descriptive sub-study, among 42 participants, we obtained physical activity data via accelerometry at one month post discharge and death status via phone call at 6 months and 1 year post discharge. We performed logistic regression. RESULTS We found that participants' amount of time spent in physical activity one month post hospital discharge was not statistically significantly associated with mortality within the first-year post hospital discharge (OR=.996, CI=.992,1.000; p=.053). However, we did observe a strong trend. CONCLUSIONS Given the small sample of participants, this trend is salient and should be examined in a larger sample. The results highlight a specific patient profile, recently hospitalized older adults with dementia, that would greatly benefit from physical activity interventions.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Sleep disorders and reduced physical activity are common in patients with psychosis and can be related to health-related outcomes such as symptomatology and functioning. Mobile health technologies and wearable sensor methods enable continuous and simultaneous monitoring of physical activity, sleep, and symptoms in one's day-to-day environment. Only a few studies have applied simultaneous assessment of these parameters. Therefore, we aimed to examine the feasibility of the simultaneous monitoring of physical activity, sleep, and symptoms and functioning in psychosis. METHODS Thirty three outpatients diagnosed with a schizophrenia or other psychotic disorder used an actigraphy watch and experience sampling method (ESM) smartphone app for 7 consecutive days to monitor physical activity, sleep, symptoms, and functioning. Participants wore the actigraphy watch during day and night and completed multiple short questionnaires (eight daily, one morning, and one evening) on their phone. Hereafter they completed evaluation questionnaires. RESULTS Of the 33 patients (25 male), 32 (97.0%) used the ESM and actigraphy during the instructed timeframe. ESM response was good: 64.0% for the daily, 90.6% for morning, and 82.6% for evening questionnaire(s). Participants were positive about the use of actigraphy and ESM. CONCLUSION The combination of wrist-worn actigraphy and smartphone-based ESM is feasible and acceptable in outpatients with psychosis. These novel methods can help both clinical practice and future research to gain more valid insight into physical activity and sleep as biobehavioral markers linked to psychopathological symptoms and functioning in psychosis. This can be used to investigate relationships between these outcomes and thereby improve individualized treatment and prediction.

Abstract
OBJECTIVES The purpose of this study was to evaluate the Function-Focused Care for Assisted Living Using the Evidence Integration Triangle (FFC-AL-EIT) intervention. DESIGN FFC-AL-EIT was a randomized controlled pragmatic trial including 85 sites and 794 residents. INTERVENTION FFC-AL-EIT was implemented by a Research Nurse Facilitator working with a facility champion and stakeholder team for 12 months to increase function and physical activity among residents. FFC-AL-EIT included (Step I) Environment and Policy Assessments; (Step II) Education; (Step III) Establishing Resident Function-Focused Care Service Plans; and (Step IV) Mentoring and Motivating. SETTING AND PARTICIPANTS The age of participants was 89.48 years [standard deviation (SD) = 7.43], and the majority were female (n = 561; 71%) and white (n = 771; 97%). METHODS Resident measures, obtained at baseline, 4, and 12 months, included function, physical activity, and performance of function-focused care. Setting outcomes, obtained at baseline and 12 months, included environment and policy assessments and service plans. RESULTS Reach was based on 85 of 90 sites that volunteered (94%) participating. Effectiveness was based on less decline in function (P < .001), more function-focused care (P = .012) and better environment (P = .032) and policy (P = .003) support for function-focused care in treatment sites. Adoption was supported with 10.00 (SD = 2.00) monthly meetings held, 77% of settings engaged in study activities as or more than expected, and direct care workers providing function-focused care (63% to 68% at 4 months and 90% at 12 months). The intervention was implemented as intended, and education was received based on a mean knowledge test score of 88% correct. Evidence of maintenance from 12 to 18 months was noted in treatment site environments (P = .35) and policies continuing to support function-focused care (P = .28)]. CONCLUSIONS AND IMPLICATIONS The Evidence Integration Triangle is an effective implementation approach for assisted living. Future work should continue to consider innovative approaches for measuring RE-AIM outcomes.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Nursing home (NH) residents with moderate-to-severe cognitive impairment experience mostly sedentary lifestyles. AIM Previous research has examined racial differences in physical activity (PA) levels in community-dwelling older adults but not in NH residents with cognitive impairment, and the current study aimed to examine these differences. METHODS This was a secondary data analysis of baseline data from the Function and Behavior Focused Care Intervention (FBFC) study. The sample included 247 cognitively impaired residents from 12 NHs who wore an ActiGraph to measure PA. RESULTS The residents' mean age was 82.6 (SD = 10.1) and had an average MMSE score of 7.8 (SD = 5.0). The sample (N = 247) was 41% African American and 59% White. African American and White residents engaged in only 50.6 and 46.2 min of light- and 1.5 and 1.1 min of moderate-level PA, respectively. Based on a multivariate analysis of covariance (MANCOVA), there was not a statistically significant difference between African American and White residents on combined dependent PA measures [F (8, 237) = 1.067, p = .387, Wilks' Λ = 0.962]. There was a trend that direct care providers subjectively reported that White residents engaged in more PA than their African American counterparts [F(8, 237) = 2.741, p = .09]. CONCLUSIONS These findings are not consistent with prior research. However, these findings indicate severely low levels of PA in NH residents, regardless of racial group. Future research should prioritize PA interventions that make accommodations for all NH residents, and especially consider their underlying physical comorbidities and cognitive function.
