Abstract
Several efforts have been extensively accomplished for the amelioration of the cancer treatments using different types of new drugs and less invasives therapies in comparison with the traditional therapeutic modalities, which are widely associated with numerous drawbacks, such as drug resistance, non-selectivity and high costs, restraining their clinical response. The application of natural compounds for the prevention and treatment of different cancer cells has attracted significant attention from the pharmaceuticals and scientific communities over the past decades. Although the use of nanotechnology in cancer therapy is still in the preliminary stages, the application of nanotherapeutics has demonstrated to decrease the various limitations related to the use of natural compounds, such as physical/chemical instability, poor aqueous solubility, and low bioavailability. Despite the nanotechnology has emerged as a promise to improve the bioavailability of the natural compounds, there are still limited clinical trials performed for their application with various challenges required for the pre-clinical and clinical trials, such as production at an industrial level, assurance of nanotherapeutics long-term stability, physiological barriers and safety and regulatory issues. This review highlights the most recent advances in the nanocarriers for natural compounds secreted from plants, bacteria, fungi, and marine organisms, as well as their role on cell signaling pathways for anticancer treatments. Additionally, the clinical status and the main challenges regarding the natural compounds loaded in nanocarriers for clinical applications were also discussed.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Sleep and physical activity (PA) are thought to be interconnected with the development of rheumatoid arthritis (RA). However, the precise nature and extent of these relationships have yet to be fully quantified. This study aimed to quantify the longitudinal effects of sleep behaviors, PA, and genetic susceptibility on the incidence of RA and to estimate the combined effects and interactions among these exposures. METHODS A total of 363,211 adults were derived from a large European cohort. We incorporated five sleep behaviors (sleep duration, insomnia, snoring, chronotype, and daytime sleepiness) to generate sleep patterns, which were defined based on healthy sleep scores. Multivariate-adjusted Cox proportional hazard models were conducted to assess the individual and combined associations of sleep patterns, PA, and genetic susceptibility with the risk of RA occurrence. Multiplicative and additive interactions were estimated by Pinteraction and relative excess risk due to interaction (RERI) between each of the two exposures. RESULTS During a follow-up of 12.5 years, 4262 RA cases were ascertained. A healthy sleep pattern was associated with a decreased risk of RA in a dose-response manner, with an adjusted hazard ratio (HR) of 0.79 (95% confidence interval [CI] = 0.75-0.84), independent of traditional risk factors and genetic predisposition. Under the restricted cubic splines model, a non-linear association was detected for PA and RA risk. Participants in the intermediate quintile 3 showed the lowest risk for developing RA, with a HR 95% CI of 0.84 (0.76-0.92). Moreover, there was an additive interaction effect of intermediate sleep pattern and PA, with a 0.45 (95% CI = 0.02-0.87) RERI of developing RA. Additionally, individuals at high genetic risk had the greatest 10-year absolute risk reduction (10.58 per 1000 person-years) when adopting both favorable behaviors. CONCLUSIONS A healthy sleep pattern and moderate PA were associated with a reduced risk of developing RA, which can offset the deleterious effects of predisposing genetic components. Implementing these modifiable lifestyle factors into public health practices is beneficial for RA prevention.

Abstract
PURPOSE The most important cause of death among cardiovascular diseases is Coronary artery disease (CAD). Pain and insomnia symptoms are the most common symptoms in CAD patients. Acupressure is used in patients with CAD as one of the energy-based complementary and alternative methods. This study was conducted to investigate the effects of self-acupressure on pain and sleep quality in patients with coronary artery disease. DESIGN This is a randomised controlled trial. METHODS This study was conducted between June and August 2021 with a total of 80 participants, 40 in the intervention and 40 in the control group. The participants in the intervention group were asked to perform a total of 16 sessions for 4 weeks, 2 days a week in the morning and afternoon, for a total of 23 minutes, depending on the preparation and compression time to be performed on 5 points. The control group did not receive any intervention during the study. Data were collected by using Descriptive Information Form, Visual Analogue Scale (VAS) and Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index (PSQI). RESULTS After self-acupressure, the VAS total score of the intervention group decreased significantly compared to the control group (t=-11.861; p<.05). After intervention PSQI total and subscale mean scores of the intervention group decreased significantly compared to the control group (t=-7.767; p<.05). It can be seen that self-acupressure application has a negative and significant effect on PSQI total mean scores and VAS total mean score of patients (p<.05). CONCLUSION The results of this study showed that self-acupressure was effective in improving the pain and sleep quality of patients with coronary artery disease. CLINICAL IMPLICATIONS Self-acupressure is an accessible and inexpensive method, it is recommended to be supported and maintained in the management of coronary artery disease in nursing practice.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Although healthy sleep patterns have been linked to a lower risk of cardiovascular disease in earlier research, it is unclear how beneficial they are for venous thromboembolism (VTE). AIM This research aimed to examine the correlation between sleep patterns, genetic susceptibility, and VTE. METHODS In the UK Biobank cohort, healthy sleep behaviors were defined as early chronotype, 7-8 hours of sleep each day, no snoring, infrequent insomnia, and infrequent daytime sleepiness. Each of the five criteria was given 1 point, creating a healthy sleep score ranging from 0 to 5. Cox proportional hazards regression models were utilized to examine the associations between genetic susceptibility, healthy sleep score and VTE. RESULTS The UK Biobank study included 384,758 participants aged 56.6 ± 8.0 years. After a median of 11.9 years of follow-up, 8,885 (2.3%) participants were diagnosed with VTE. A healthy sleep score inversely affected VTE risk. For participants with a score of 5, the hazard ratio of VTE was 0.813 (95% confidence interval: 0.758-0.873, P<0.001) compared to those with a score ≤2. Early chronotype, sleeping 7-8 hours each day, infrequent insomnia, and infrequent daytime sleepiness were significantly associated with a 7.9%, 8.3%, 5.1%, and 20.7% lower risk of VTE, respectively. In addition, the correlation between sleep pattern and the incidence of VTE was consistent, regardless of genetic susceptibility (P for interaction = 0.366). CONCLUSIONS Our secondary analysis of a large-scale prospectively gathered registry revealed that individuals with a healthy sleep pattern are significantly correlated with lower risk of developing VTE, irrespective of genetic susceptibility.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE Rest-activity rhythm is an essential behavior for human health. However, the association between rest-activity rhythm and atherosclerotic cardiovascular disease (ASCVD) risk remains unclear. Therefore, this study aimed to elucidate the association. METHODS This study included 87,039 participants from the UK Biobank who had 7-day accelerometry data and were free of ASCVD at baseline. Relative amplitude was calculated as the difference between the most active continuous 10-h period (M10) and the least active continuous 5-h period (L5) in 24 h, and lower relative amplitude indicated the disruption of rest-activity rhythm. Cox proportional hazard model was used to examine the association of relative amplitude with ASCVD. Further, the linear association between relative amplitude and arterial stiffness measurements, including arterial stiffness index (ASI) and carotid intima-media thickness (cIMT), was examined. RESULTS During a mean follow-up period of 6.80 ± 1.10 years, 2798 ASCVD cases were identified. A dose-response relationship was observed between relative amplitude and ASCVD risk (P for trend<0.001). The adjusted hazard ratio, for the highest vs the lowest quintile of relative amplitude, was 1.54 (95 % confidence interval: 1.31, 1.79). Further, we found significant association of lower relative amplitude with ASI and cIMT. The onset timing of M10 at ≤06:00, 09:00, 10:00, or ≥11:00, as opposed to the reference time of 07:00, was associated with higher ASCVD risk. CONCLUSIONS Low rest-activity rhythm amplitude was associated with a higher risk of ASCVD. Rest-activity rhythm amplitude may provide a method to identify individuals at risk of ASCVD in public health and clinical practice.

Abstract
BACKGROUND The association between Life's essential 8 (LE 8), depression, and mortality still unexplored. METHODS Data of 23,247 participants aged ≥20 years old were extracted from the National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey (NHANES) 2005-2018 in this retrospective cohort study. Depression symptoms were determined by the 9-item Patient Health Questionnaire (PHQ-9) and antidepressant use. Cardiovascular health was assessed using LE 8. Potential covariates were selected using weighted univariate Cox regression models. The associations of LE 8, depression symptoms, with mortality were explored via univariate and multivariate Cox proportional hazards models, and restricted cubic spline. And the relationships were further investigated with stratified by LE 8 scores. The results were presented as hazard ratios (HRs) and 95 % confidence intervals (CIs). RESULTS Of the total 23,247 adults, 3208 (15.95 %) suffered from depression symptoms. After 99.75 months of mean follow-up time, 2400 individuals were died. Of these, 781 deaths were from cardiovascular disease (CVD). Depression symptoms were associated with higher odds of all-cause mortality (HR = 1.24, 95%CI: 1.06-1.45) and CVD mortality (HR = 1.36, 95%CI: 1.04-1.77). LE 8 score < 80 was marginal significance associated with all-cause mortality (HR = 1.14, 95%CI: 0.99-1.32). LE 8 had moderating effects on the associations of depression symptoms with all-cause (HR = 1.39, 95%CI: 1.16-1.67, P trend <0.05) and CVD mortality (HR = 1.63, 95%CI: 1.09-2.46, P trend <0.05). CONCLUSION Higher LE 8 scores may moderate the association of depression symptoms with all-cause and CVD mortality. Adherence to healthier lifestyle behaviors may improve the prognosis of depression.

Abstract
Consuming probiotic products is a solution that people are willing to choose to augment health. As a global health hazard, sleep deprivation (SD) can cause both physical and mental diseases. The present study investigated the protective effects of Lacticaseibacillus rhamnosus GG (LGG), a widely used probiotic, on a SD mouse model. Here, it has been shown that SD induced intestinal damage in mice, while LGG supplementation attenuated disruption of the intestinal barrier and enhanced the antioxidant capacity. Microbiome analysis revealed that SD caused dysbiosis in the gut microbiota, characterized by increased levels of Clostridium XlVa, Alistipes, and Desulfovibrio, as well as decreased levels of Ruminococcus, which were partially ameliorated by LGG. Moreover, SD resulted in elevated pro-inflammatory cytokine concentrations in both the intestine and the brain, while LGG provided protection in both organs. LGG supplementation significantly improved locomotor activity in SD mice. Although heat-killed LGG showed some protective effects in SD mice, its overall efficacy was inferior to that of live LGG. In terms of mechanism, it was found that AG1478, an inhibitor of the epidermal growth factor receptor (EGFR) tyrosine kinase, could diminish the protective effects of LGG. In conclusion, LGG demonstrated the ability to alleviate SD-induced intestinal barrier dysfunction through EGFR activation and alleviate neuroinflammation.

Abstract
BACKGROUND This study aimed to elucidate the relationship between physical activity, body weight, liver function, and insomnia in Korean adults, thereby providing a foundation for health promotion strategies. METHODS We recruited 11,645 adults (8,051 males and 3,594 females). Participants underwent assessments using the Korean version of the Insomnia Severity Index, measures of physical activity (PA), anthropometric data (body weight, height, body mass index [BMI], and waist circumference [WC]), and liver function (alanine aminotransferase, aspartate aminotransferase [AST], and gamma-glutamyl transferase). RESULTS One-way ANOVA revealed significant differences among male groups in height (p < .001), weight (p = .036), BMI (p = .002), diastolic blood pressure (p = .008), AST (p = .036), recreational PA (p = .026), moderate PA (p < .01), vigorous PA (p < .01), and moderate-to-vigorous PA (p < .001). Similarly, significant differences were found among female groups in height (p < .001), weight (p = .001), BMI (p = .006), WC (p = .013), moderate PA (p < .001), vigorous PA (p < .001), and moderate-to-vigorous PA (p < .001). CONCLUSION To prevent insomnia, it is essential to enhance physical activity and manage factors related to body weight and liver function, such as BMI, WC, and AST. Increasing moderate-to-vigorous physical activity is particularly crucial, as it has a substantial positive impact on reducing body weight and improving liver function.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE This study aimed to examine the individual and combined associations between dietary habits and lifestyle factors concerning all-cause mortality and stroke in Chinese adults. METHOD We conducted a nationwide, multicenter, prospective cohort study involving 10,008 participants, gathering baseline data on lifestyle, metabolic status, dietary habits, and living behaviors. Subsequently, a 10-year follow-up was performed, resulting in the inclusion of 7,612 participants in this study. We employed Spearman correlation analysis, restricted cubic spline regression, and Cox regression analysis to evaluate the connections between outcome events, dietary habits, and lifestyle. RESULT For each additional serving of pulses consumed per week, there was a slight decrease in the risk of all-cause mortality (HR: 0.91, 95% CI: 0.83-0.99). The hazard ratios for stroke were 2.24 (1.48, 3.37) for current smokers, in comparison to individuals who had never smoked. Appropriate intake of specific dietary factors and certain lifestyle habits were associated with reduced stroke: fruit drinks at 0.51 (0.34, 0.87), and animal viscera at 0.58 (0.32, 1.04). Weekly consumption of at least 21 servings of vegetables (0.72, 0.53-0.98), 0-1 serving of fried food (0.58, 0.38-0.90), and at least 1 serving of carbonated beverages (0.51, 0.28-0.92) was associated with a reduced risk of stroke. CONCLUSION Smoking was found to be linked to an increased risk of stroke. A higher intake of fruit drinks and animal viscera was associated with a reduced risk of stroke. In contrast, a higher intake of beans was associated with a decreased risk of overall mortality. Consuming an appropriate amount of vegetables, fried foods, and carbonated drinks was found to potentially lower the risk of stroke. Collectively, these findings underscore the importance of developing tailored dietary interventions conducive to the Chinese populace's health.

Abstract
PURPOSE It is unclear whether traditional Chinese patent medicines can resist premature aging. This prospective study investigated the effects of Bazi Bushen Capsule (BZBS) which is a traditional Chinese patent medicine for tonifying the kidney essence on premature senility symptoms and quality of life, telomerase activity and telomere length. STUDY DESIGN AND METHODS It was a parallel, multicenter, double-blind, randomized, and placebo-controlled trial. Subjects (n = 530) aged 30-78 years were randomized to receive BZBS or placebo capsules 12 weeks. The primary outcome was the clinical feature of change in kidney deficiency for aging evaluation scale (CFCKD-AES) and tilburg frailty indicator (TFI). The secondary outcomes were SF-36, serum sex hormone level, five times sit-to-stand time (FTSST), 6MWT, motor function test-grip strength, balance test, walking speed, muscle mass measurement, telomerase and telomere length. RESULTS After 12 weeks of treatment, the CFCKD-AES and TFI scores in the BZBS group decreased by 13.79 and 1.50 respectively (6.42 and 0.58 in the placebo group, respectively); The SF-36 in the BZBS group increased by 98.38 (23.79 in the placebo group). The FTSST, motor function test grip strength, balance test, walking speed, and muscle mass in the elderly subgroup were all improved in the BZBS group. The telomerase content in the BZBS group increased by 150.04 ng/ml compared to the placebo group. The fever led one patient in the placebo group to discontinue the trial. One patient in the placebo group withdrew from the trial due to pregnancy. None of the serious AEs led to treatment discontinuation, and 3 AEs (1.14%) were assessed as related to BZBS by the primary investigator. CONCLUSIONS BZBS can improve premature aging symptoms, frailty scores, and quality of life, as well as improve FTSST, motor function: grip strength, balance test, walking speed, and muscle mass in elderly subgroups of patients, and enhance telomerase activity, but it is not significantly associated with increasing telomere length which is important for healthy aging. Abstract
BACKGROUND Metabolic dysfunction-associated fatty liver disease (MAFLD) is a growing threat leading to substantial disease burden globally. Poor sleep and physical inactivity are common in modern societies and independently associated with MAFLD, however, their joint effects on MAFLD remains unclear. METHODS This population-based cross-sectional study was conducted in Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region, China, between July 2019 and September 2021. Self-reported sleep behaviors and physical activity (PA) were assessed using validated questionnaires. The primary outcome was radiological diagnosis of MAFLD. RESULTS Of the 10 089 participants aged 47.0 (9.1) years (51.6% men), 3854 (38.2%) individuals had MAFLD. Poor sleep quality and physical inactivity were independently and jointly associated with an increased prevalence of MAFLD, independent of traditional risk factors (P < 0.05). Compared to subjects with guideline-recommended moderate-to-vigorous PA (MVPA) and good sleep quality, individuals with no recommended MVPA and poor sleep had the highest possibility of MAFLD (odds ratio = 2.36, 95% confidence interval: 1.81 - 3.08). Enhancing sleep quality substantially attenuated MAFLD prevalence regardless of the volume of PA, whereas, engaging in PA well above current guidelines did not adequately counteract the adverse impacts of poor sleep on MAFLD. CONCLUSIONS Public health awareness and strategies concurrently targeting both sleep quality and PA should be encouraged to curb the climbing prevalence of MAFLD.

Background In order to lessen the burden of Alzheimer's disease (AD), timely and efficient management and intervention methods for mild cognitive impairment (MCI) are crucial. MCI is seen as a transitional stage between normal aging and dementia. Although sarcopenia is an important risk factor for MCI, it is unclear what factors mediates and regulates the brain-muscle communication. Our objective was to investigate the indirect moderating effects of sleep duration and leisure activity on depressive symptoms, sarcopenia and MCI. Method Panel data from the 2015 China Health and Retirement Longitudinal Study (CHARLS) database was used in this investigation. we used Bootstrap sampling to determine the relationship between sleep duration, leisure activity, depressive symptoms, sarcopenia, and MCI in mediation and indirect moderation models. The outcome measurements were odds ratio (OR) and confidence interval (CI). Result After adjusting for confounding variables, we discovered that sarcopenia and its traits, such as handgrip strength, gait speed, standing test, and muscle mass, were significantly correlated with MCI. Second, the results implied that depressive symptoms played a role in modulating the link between physical function, muscle strength, and MCI. This moderating effect was impacted by short sleep duration and moderate to high levels of leisure activities. Conclusion We discovered that MCI was highly correlated not only with physical function and muscle strength but also with depressed symptoms, which acted as a partially mediating factor in this connection. Handgrip strength, gait speed, and standing test mediated the correction of MCI caused by depression symptoms. Importantly, leisure activities and sleep duration had indirect moderating effects on the above associations, and future management policies should take these factors into account.

Abstract
Objective To examine potential factors affecting sleep duration and explore its association with the risk of mortality among adults in the United States. Methods The study population consisted of adults aged 26 to 79 years who participated in the National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey (NHANES) conducted from 2007 to 2016. Sleep duration was classified into three categories: short (<7 hours), optimal (7-8 hours), and long (≥9 hours). The associations between sleep duration and both all-cause mortality and cause-specific mortality (including heart disease, tumors, cerebrovascular disease, and others) were examined in the overall population and subgroups using weighted Cox regression models. Dose-response associations between sleep duration and risk of all-cause mortality were explored using restricted cubic spline (RCS) analyses. Additionally, a multinomial logistic regression analysis was conducted to investigate potential factors that influence sleep duration in adults. Results The study included a total of 24,141 subjects, with a population-weighted mean age of 48.93 years. Over 30% of the subjects exhibited unhealthy sleep habits. Fully adjusted models revealed that both short sleep duration (HR=1.169, 95% CI 1.027-1.331) and long sleep duration (HR=1.286, 95% CI 1.08-1.531), were associated with an increased risk of all-cause mortality. The RCS curves showed a U-shaped relationship between sleep duration and risk of all-cause mortality. Subgroup analyses showed a significant association between poor sleep patterns and all-cause mortality among adults aged 26-64 years, males, and non-Hispanic whites. Furthermore, multinomial logistic regression identified several predictors associated with short and long sleep durations. Conclusion Both short and long sleep duration are associated with an increased risk of all-cause mortality, with a U-shaped dose-response relationship. It is imperative to implement appropriate primary prevention strategies aimed at monitoring and providing health education to populations at risk of developing unhealthy sleep patterns.

Abstract
OBJECTIVES Although studies have indicated that physical activity (PA) is related to cardiovascular disease, the specific association between PA and incident cerebrovascular disease (CBVD) remains uncertain. The current study aimed to investigate the associations between PA levels and the CBVD incidence or all-cause mortality. DESIGN Prospective cohort study. SETTINGS AND PARTICIPANTS Older participants (aged >60 years) from the UK Biobank. METHODS The baseline PA was classified as total, light, moderate, and vigorous PA based on the metabolic equivalent-minutes per week (MET-min/wk) and considered as exposures, whereas CBVD incidence and all-cause mortality were considered as the outcomes. Cox proportional hazards were used to calculate the hazard ratios (HRs) and 95% CIs for the influence of the association between PA and CBVD incidence and all-cause mortality. RESULTS A total of 146,742 participants aged 60 years and older were included. During a median follow-up period of 13.5 years (interquartile range of 12.8-14.2), 9338 older individuals developed CBVD and 3033 death were recorded (including 767 CBVD-related deaths). High volumes of PA were consistently associated with lower risks of CBVD and all-cause mortality. The lowest risk of CBVD incidence was observed at 2001-2500 MET-min/wk of total PA (HR 0.61, 95% CI 0.53-0.70), and the lowest risk of all-cause mortality was observed at 2501-5000 MET-min/wk (HR 0.52, 95% CI 0.43-0.63) in older adults. Total PA at 2001-2500 MET-min/wk significantly reduced the CBVD incidence in older women (HR 0.57, 95% CI 0.46-0.71), which was more pronounced than that in older men (HR for 2001-2500 MET-min/wk: 0.64, 95% CI 0.50-0.77). CONCLUSIONS AND IMPLICATIONS Total PA at 2001-2500 MET-min/wk significantly reduced the risk of incident CBVD and all-cause mortality in adults aged >60 years, although the extents of risk reduction vary in men and women.

Abstract
OBJECTIVES To prospectively investigate the associations of longitudinal changes in sleep score and LTPA and their combination with all-cause mortality. METHODS Among 12,543 participants (mean age: 66.1 years) from the Dongfeng-Tongji cohort, we calculated sleep score (range, 0-4, integrating bedtime, sleep duration, sleep quality, and midday napping, higher score indicating healthier sleep) and LTPA at baseline (2008-2010) and the first follow-up (2013) surveys and their 5-year changes (defining stable sleep score as no change and stable LTPA as change within 150 min/week). We prospectively documented deaths from the first follow-up survey (2013) through December 31, 2018. RESULTS During a mean 5.5-year follow-up, 792 deaths occurred. The 5-year changes in sleep score and LTPA were inversely associated with all-cause mortality risk, regardless of their initial values. When assessing 5-year changes in sleep score and LTPA jointly, compared with the stable sleep score-stable LTPA group, the decreased sleep score-decreased LTPA group had a 40 % (5-85 %) higher all-cause mortality risk, whereas the increased sleep score-increased LTPA group had a 34 % (9-52 %) lower risk. The direction of the joint association was mainly driven by sleep score change. Participants maintaining sleep scores ≥ 3 and LTPA ≥ 150 min/week over 5 years had a 44 % (28-56 %) lower all-cause mortality risk. CONCLUSIONS Promoting sleep hygiene and LTPA together may benefit efforts in reducing mortality risk, with particular attention to monitoring long-term sleep health.

Abstract
For undergraduate students, excessive screen time is associated with poorer mental health and greater perceived stress. Objective: The purpose of the present investigation was to determine the potential moderating influence of physical activity and sleep on the relationship between screen time and stress. Participants & Methods: A cross-sectional sample of 513 undergraduate students between Fall 2017 & Spring 2020 were given a questionnaire to assess perceived stress level, physical activity engagement, screen time, and sleep. Results: Stepwise hierarchical regression analyses identified that screen time, sleep, and the three-way interaction between screen time, sleep, and physical activity were associated with stress. Post-hoc decomposition revealed that higher levels of physical activity and sleep both mitigated the relationship between screen time and stress. Conclusions: Findings suggest that modifiable health behaviors such as physical activity and sleep may be important factors for managing the negative effects of screen time on stress in college-aged adults.

Abstract
BACKGROUND This study is designed to explore the correlation between multiple healthy lifestyles within the framework of "lifestyle medicine", and the mortality risk of nonalcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD). METHODS The National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey (NHANES) database was employed. The analysis consisted of 5542 participants with baseline NAFLD and 5542 matched non-NAFLD participants from the database. Lifestyle information, including five low risk factors advocated by lifestyle medicine (healthy diet, vigorous physical activity, healthy sleep duration, avoiding smoking, and maintaining a non-depressed psychological status), was collected through a baseline questionnaire. Cox proportional hazards regression models and Kaplan-Meier survival curve were used to evaluate risk of mortality. In addition, subgroups were analyzed according to gender, age, body mass index and waist circumference. RESULTS In total, 502 deaths (n = 181 deaths from cardiovascular disease (CVD)) were recorded among NAFLD participants after the median follow up duration of 6.5 years. In the multivariate-adjusted model, compared to participants with an unfavorable lifestyle (scoring 0-1), NAFLD participants with a favorable lifestyle (scoring 4-5) experienced a 56% reduction in all-cause mortality and a 66% reduction in CVD mortality. Maintaining an undepressed psychological state and adhering to vigorous exercise significantly reduced CVD mortality risk in NAFLD participants (HR, 0.64 [95% CI, 0.43-0.95]; HR, 0.54 [95% CI, 0.33-0.88]) while maintaining healthy sleep reduced premature mortality due to CVD by 31%. CONCLUSIONS Healthy lifestyle, characterized by maintaining an undepressed mental state and healthy sleep, significantly mitigates the risk of all-cause, CVD, and premature mortality risk among NAFLD patients, with a particularly pronounced effect observed in female and obese subpopulations.

Abstract
BACKGROUND To assess the largely undetermined separate and joint effects of sleep and liver function biomarkers on liver cancer. METHODS Data of 356,894 participants without cancer at baseline in the UK Biobank were analyzed. Sleep score was evaluated using five sleep traits (sleep duration, chronotype, insomnia, snoring, and excessive daytime sleepiness) and dichotomized into healthy or unhealthy sleep. Circulating liver function biomarkers were measured. Cox proportional hazard model was performed to investigate the independent and joint associations of sleep and liver function biomarkers with liver cancer incidence. RESULTS After a median follow-up time of 13.1 years, 394 cases of incident liver cancer were documented. The multivariable-adjusted hazard ratio (HR) for liver cancer was 1.46 (95% confidence interval: 1.15-1.85) associated with unhealthy sleep (vs. healthy sleep), and was 1.17 (1.15-1.20), 1.20 (1.18-1.22), 1.69 (1.47-1.93), 1.06 (1.06-1.07), 1.08 (1.07-1.09), 1.81 (1.37-2.39), or 0.29 (0.18-0.46) associated with each 10-unit increase in alanine transaminase (ALT), aspartate transaminase (AST), total bilirubin (TBIL), gamma-glutamyl transferase (GGT), alkaline phosphatase (ALP), total protein (TP), or albumin (ALB), respectively. Individuals with unhealthy sleep and high (≥ median) ALT, AST, TBIL, GGT, ALP, or TP or low (< median) ALB level had the highest HR of 3.65 (2.43-5.48), 4.03 (2.69-6.03), 1.97 (1.40-2.77), 4.69 (2.98-7.37), 2.51 (1.75-3.59), 2.09 (1.51-2.89), or 2.22 (1.55-3.17) for liver cancer, respectively. Significant additive interaction of unhealthy sleep with high TP level on liver cancer was observed with relative excess risk due to an interaction of 0.80 (0.19-1.41). CONCLUSIONS Unhealthy sleep was associated with an increased risk of liver cancer, especially in participants with lower ALB levels or higher levels of ALT, AST, TBIL, GGT, ALP, or particularly TP.

Abstract
Large prospective studies are required to better elucidate the associations of physical activity, sedentary behaviors (SBs), and sleep with overall cancer and site-specific cancer risk, accounting for the interactions with genetic predisposition. The study included 360,271 individuals in UK Biobank. After a median follow-up of 12.52 years, we found higher total physical activity (TPA) level and higher sleep scores were related to reduced risk of cancer while higher SB level showed a positive association with cancer. Compared with high TPA-healthy sleep group and low SB-healthy sleep group, low TPA-poor sleep group and high SB-poor sleep group had the highest risk for overall cancer, breast cancer, and lung cancer. Adherence to a more active exercise pattern was associated with a lower risk of cancer irrespective of genetic risk. Our study suggests that improving the quality of sleep and developing physical activity habits might yield benefits in mitigating the cancer risk.

Abstract
Currently, sleep disorders (SD) in the elderly are gaining prominence globally and are becoming a significant public health concern. Methyl donor nutrients (MDNs), such as vitamin B6, vitamin B12, folate, and choline, have been reported to have the potential to improve sleep disorders. Moreover, MDNs help to maintain gut flora homeostasis, and are closely associated with the development of SD. Nevertheless, there has been a lack of comprehensive human studies examining the association between MDNs intake and SD. In our study, we comprehensively evaluated the association between MDNs intake and SD in the elderly and used 16S rRNA gene sequencing to explore the underlying mechanism. We found that the SD group (n = 91) had a lower methyl-donor nutritional quality index (MNQI) and a trend toward lower intake compared to the control group (n = 147). Based on the intestinal microbiome, the beta diversity of the intestinal flora was higher in the high methyl-donor nutritional quality (HQ) group compared to the low methyl-donor nutritional quality (LQ) group, and it was lower in the SD group compared to the control group. This suggests that MDNs may regulate sleep by modulating the abundance distribution of the microbiota. Subsequently, we performed correlation analyses between the relative abundance of the microbiota, MDNs intake, and the Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index (PSQI), identifying five genera with potential regulatory roles. The KEGG pathway analysis indicated that energy metabolism and one-carbon metabolism might be the pathways through which MDNs modulate sleep. This study offers dietary guidance strategies for managing SD in the elderly and provides insights for targeted microbiota intervention.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Depression and sleep disturbances are associated with increased risks of various diseases and mortality, but their impacts on mortality in cancer survivors remain unclear. The objective of this study was to characterize the independent and joint associations of depressive symptoms and sleep disturbances with mortality outcomes in cancer survivors. METHODS This population-based prospective cohort study included cancer survivors aged ≥ 20 years (n = 2947; weighted population, 21,003,811) from the National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey (NHANES) 2007-2018 cycles. Depressive symptoms and sleep disturbances were self-reported. Depressive symptoms were assessed using the Patient Health Questionnaire 9 (PHQ-9). Death outcomes were determined by correlation with National Death Index records through December 31, 2019. Primary outcomes included all-cause, cancer-specific, and noncancer mortality. RESULTS During the median follow-up of 69 months (interquartile range, 37-109 months), 686 deaths occurred: 240 participants died from cancer, 146 from heart disease, and 300 from other causes. Separate analyses revealed that compared with a PHQ-9 score (0-4), a PHQ-9 score (5-9) was associated with a greater risk of all-cause mortality (hazard ratio [HR], 1.28; 95% CI, 1.03-1.59), and a PHQ-9 score (≥ 10) was associated with greater risk of all-cause mortality (HR, 1.37; 95% CI, 1.04-1.80) and noncancer mortality (HR, 1.45; 95% CI, 1.01-2.10). Single sleep disturbances were not associated with mortality risk. In joint analyses, the combination of a PHQ-9 score ≥ 5 and no sleep disturbances, but not sleep disturbances, was associated with increased risks of all-cause mortality, cancer-specific mortality, and noncancer mortality. Specifically, compared with individuals with a PHQ-9 score of 0-4 and no sleep disturbances, HRs for all-cause mortality and noncancer mortality in individuals with a PHQ-9 score of 5-9 and no sleep disturbances were 1.72 (1.21-2.44) and 1.69 (1.10-2.61), respectively, and 2.61 (1.43-4.78) and 2.77 (1.27-6.07), respectively, in individuals with a PHQ-9 score ≥ 10 and no sleep disturbances; HRs for cancer-specific mortality in individuals with a PHQ-9 score ≥ 5 and no sleep disturbances were 1.95 (1.16-3.27). CONCLUSIONS Depressive symptoms were linked to a high risk of mortality in cancer survivors. The combination of a PHQ-9 score (≥ 5) and an absence of self-perceived sleep disturbances was associated with greater all-cause mortality, cancer-specific mortality, and noncancer mortality risks, particularly in individuals with a PHQ-9 score (≥ 10).

Abstract
BACKGROUND Genetic factors and night shift work both contribute to the risk of depression, but whether the association of night shift work with depression varies by genetic predisposition remains unclear. OBJECTIVES To assess whether night shift work is associated with a higher risk of depression regardless of genetic predisposition. METHODS We used data from the UK biobank of 247,828 adults aged 38-71 free of depression at baseline from March 13, 2006, to October 1, 2010. Genetic predisposition to depression was assessed using polygenic risk scores (PRS) weighted sums of genetic variant indicator variables and classified as low (lowest tertile), intermediate (tertile 2), and high (highest tertile). Night shift work exposures were collected using a touchscreen questionnaire and were divided into four categories. RESULTS After a median follow-up of 12.7 years, 7315 participants developed depression. Compared with day workers, HRs (95 % CIs) of depression were 1.28 (1.19-1.38) for shift work, but never or rarely night shifts, 1.32 (1.20-1.45) for irregular night shifts, and 1.20 (1.07-1.34) for permanent night shifts. Considering lifetime employment and compared with never shift workers, >8 nights/month (HR: 1.40; 95 % CI: 1.19-1.66) and <10 years (HR: 1.30; 95 % CI: 1.09-1.54) of night shift work were associated with a higher risk of depression. In joint effect analyses, compared to participants with low genetic predisposition and day workers, the HRs (95 % CIs) of depression were 1.49 (1.32-1.69) in those with high genetic predisposition and shift work, but never or rarely night shifts, and 1.36 (1.20-1.55) for those with high genetic predisposition and irregular/permanent night shifts. In addition, there was neither multiplicative nor additive interaction between genetic predisposition and night shift work on the risk of depression. CONCLUSIONS Night shift work was associated with an increased risk of depression regardless of genetic risk.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Poor sleep quality is a global public health concern. This study aimed to identify the risk factors for sleep disorders and clarify their causal effects. METHODS Data were obtained from the National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey (NHANES) and Mendelian randomization (MR)-Base databases. Baseline characteristics of individuals with and without sleep disorders were compared. A multivariate logistic regression analysis was performed to calculate the effects of each variable on sleep disorders. Causal effects of blood lead levels and hypertension on sleep disorders were assessed using MR analysis. RESULTS In total, 3660 individuals were enrolled in the study. The prevalence of self-reported sleep disorders was 26.21%. Serum lead level, serum mercury level, serum retinol level, prevalence of hypertension, and daily vigorous work duration were significantly higher for those in the sleep disorders group than the control group. After adjusting for various covariates, the effects of serum lead and hypertension on sleep disorders were stable from logistic regression models 1-4. MR analysis showed that blood lead levels were causally related to the risk of sleep disorders (odds ratio (OR) = 1.09, 95% confidence interval (CI) 1.01-1.17, P = 0.030). There was no causal link between elevated blood pressure and sleep disorders (OR = 0.99, 95% CI 0.94-1.04, P = 0.757). Goodness-of-fit tests and sensitivity analyses were used to verify the reliability of the results. CONCLUSIONS Blood lead is positively and causally associated with an increased risk of sleep disorders. These findings provide a novel perspective regarding sleep protection. Taking effective measures to reduce lead exposure may significantly improve sleep health.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE We aimed to investigate the independent and joint associations between metabolic status, PA (physical activity) and risk of CVD (cardiovascular disease) in participants with obesity. METHODS We included 109,301 adults with obesity free of baseline CVD enrolled from 2006 to 2010 in the UK Biobank cohort (aged 56 ± 7.9 years). Based on metabolic status, obesity was grouped into metabolically healthy obesity (MHO; free of hypertension, hypercholesterolemia and diabetes; n = 26,989; BMI 33 ± 3.3 kg/m2) and metabolically unhealthy obesity (MUO; n = 82,312; BMI 34 ± 4.0 kg/m2). PA was categorized into four groups according to moderate-to-vigorous PA (MVPA): none, low, medium, and high. Multivariable Cox regression models were used for the main analyses adjusting for sociodemographic factors, lifestyles and comorbidities. RESULTS There were 8,059 CVD events during a median follow-up of 8.1 years. MHO was associated with a 42% reduced risk of CVD compared with MUO (HR = 0.58, 95% CI: 0.53-0.63). A significant interaction effect between PA and metabolic status on CVD risk was found. Among MUO participants, individuals with PA had significantly decreased CVD risk when compared with no MVPA (HR = 0.87, 95% CI: 0.81-0.94 for low PA; HR = 0.85, 95% CI: 0.78-0.93 for medium PA; and HR = 0.86, 95% CI: 0.80-0.92 for high PA). The lowest CVD risk was observed in MHO & medium PA group when compared with MUO & no MVPA (HR = 0.45, 95% CI: 0.37-0.56). CONCLUSIONS Both MHO and any MVPA were associated with reduced risk of CVD in adults with obesity, while PA could modify the relationship between metabolic status and CVD risk.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Metabolic syndrome (MetS) is associated to sleep duration. It is crucial to identify factors that disrupt sleep regulation. The study aimed to assess the indirect effect of risk factors related to MetS severity through sleep duration by utilizing a structural equation model (SEM). METHODS The study involving 3,935 adults from the baseline data of the Ravansar Non-Communicable Disease (RaNCD) cohort study. MetS severity scores were the outcome variables. SEM was employed to explore the relationships, utilizing IBM SPSS and AMOS version 23. RESULTS The mean MetS severity score was higher in women compared to men (0.25 vs. 0.16, P = 0.003). In men, socioeconomic status (SES) has a positive direct effect (β = 0.048) and a negative indirect effect (β=-0.006) on MetS severity. Increased physical activity is directly (β=-0.036) and indirectly (β=-0.093) associated with reducing MetS severity. Nap duration is directly linked to an increase (β = 0.072) but has an indirect effect (β=-0.008) in decreasing MetS severity. In women, SES has a direct (β=-0.020) and indirect (β=-0.001) inverse relationship with MetS severity. Increased physical activity is directly (β=-0.048) and indirectly (β=-0.036) associated with decreasing MetS severity in women. Nap duration is directly associated with an increase in MetS severity (β=-0.018) but indirectly contributes to its reduction (β=-0.002). Sleep duration not only directly affects MetS severity but is also influenced by age, SES, physical activity, obesity and nap duration. CONCLUSION Physical activity, SES, and nap duration directly and indirectly effect the MetS severity. Sleep duration was recognized as a mediating variable that supports the indirect effects.

Abstract
Decreased sleep quality and duration is associated with an array of negative health outcomes. Evidence suggests athletes are susceptible to sleep inadequacies that may in turn affect their health and dietary behaviours. This study aimed to explore the sleep profile of both male and female Gaelic games players, at an elite and sub-elite level and compare how poor sleep relates to subjective health complaints and food cravings. One hundred and seventy Gaelic games players completed the Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index (PSQI), Subjective Health Complaints Inventory (SHC) and Food Cravings Questionnaire-Trait-Reduced (FCQ-T-r). Participants were categorised into two groups: poor sleepers (PSQI ≥ 5) and good sleepers (PSQI < 5). Outcome measures of health and food cravings were analysed across the groups, Mann-Whitney U tests were used to assess differences, and Spearman's rank-order correlations were used to determine relationships between variables. Sixty-seven % of athletes were categorised as poor sleepers. There were no significant differences in PSQI scores across genders (p = 0.088) or playing level (p = 0.072). Poor sleepers experienced significantly increased SHC (p < 0.001) and female athletes had significantly more SHC compared to males (p < 0.001). Female athletes experienced more food cravings than males (p = 0.013). However, there were no significant differences in food cravings between good and poor sleepers (p = 0.104). The findings suggest a high prevalence of poor sleepers amongst GAA athletes. Furthermore, a significant relationship exists between poor sleep and health complaints with females at a higher risk of worsened health complaints and higher food cravings. Sleep screening and education interventions to enhance sleep in GAA athletes are advocated.

Abstract
BACKGROUND This study examines the association between traditional cardiovascular health (CVH) metrics and major adverse cardiovascular events (MACE) incidence in individuals with diverse sleep patterns. METHODS AND RESULTS We analyzed data from 208 621 participants initially free of cardiovascular disease (CVD) in the UK Biobank study. Sleep patterns were assessed using scores for chronotype, duration, insomnia, snoring, and daytime dozing. Traditional CVH scores were derived from the Life's Simple 7 metrics. Cox proportional hazards multivariate regression assessed associations between distinct combinations of CVH and sleep scores and MACE, including nonfatal myocardial infarction, nonfatal stroke, and CVD mortality. Over a mean follow-up of 12.73 years, 9253 participants experienced incident MACE. Individuals with both a healthy sleep pattern and ideal CVH levels had the lowest MACE risk compared with those with a poor sleep pattern and poor CVH levels (hazard ratio, 0.306 [95% CI, 0.257-0.365]; P<0.001). Elevated CVH scores were associated with a reduced risk of MACE across different sleep patterns. Similar trends were observed for individual MACE components, heart failure, and all-cause mortality. These findings remained robust in sensitivity analyses and across various subgroups. CONCLUSIONS In individuals without known CVD, maintaining a favorable sleep pattern and achieving optimal CVH levels, as measured by traditional metrics, were associated with the lowest MACE risk. Enhanced CVH significantly reduced CVD risk, even in individuals with a poor sleep pattern. Abstract
BACKGROUND Cardiovascular disease (CVD) is a major global health threat, particularly in China, contributing to over 40% of deaths. While sleep behaviors, sedentary behaviors, and physical activities are recognized as independent lifestyle risk factors for CVD, there remains limited understanding of specific movement behavior patterns and their CVD risks, especially considering sex-specific differences. This study examines movement behavior patterns among Chinese adults (40-75) and their associations with cardiovascular risk, with a focus on sleep, physical activity (PA), and sedentary behavior (SB). METHODS Data pertaining to 13,465 male participants and 15,613 female participants, collected from the Chronic Disease and Risk Factor Surveillance Survey in Nanjing from February 2020 to December 2022. The latent class analysis method was employed to identify underlying movement patterns across sexes. Multinomial logistic regression models assessed CVD risk, and the China-PAR model calculated 10-year risk. RESULTS Three male and four female movement patterns emerged. Active Movers (17.10% males, 5.93% females) adhered to PA recommendations but had poorer sleep quality. Moderate Achievers (61.42% males, 45.32% females) demonstrated moderate behavior. Sedentary Sleepers (21.48% males, 10.20% females) exhibited minimal PA but good sleep. Female Moderate Physical Activity (MPA) Dominant Movers demonstrated a prevalent adherence to recommended MPA levels. Active movers had the lowest CVD risk. After adjusting for potential confounders, moderate achievers (OR = 1.462, 95% CI 1.212, 1.764) and sedentary sleepers (OR = 1.504, 95% CI 1.211, 1.868) were both identified as being associated with a high-risk of cardiovascular diseases (CVDs) compared to active movers in males, demonstrating a similar trend for intermediate risk. Such associations were not statistically significant among females. CONCLUSIONS Our study revealed sex-specific movement patterns associated with CVD risks among middle-aged Chinese adults. We suggest that adopting an active movement behavior pattern, characterized by meeting or exceeding recommended levels of vigorous physical activity (VPA) and reducing sedentary behavior, is beneficial for all middle-aged adults, particularly males. An active lifestyle could help counteract the adverse effects of relatively poor sleep quality on the risk of developing CVD in this population. Integrating sleep, PA, and SB information provides a holistic framework for understanding and mitigating CVD risks.

Abstract
Objective Studies of the association between clean energy consumption, sleep duration, and cancer are still extremely limited. We aim to investigate the individual or joint role of clean energy consumption, and sleep duration in cancer onset. Methods We used data from the China Health and Retirement Longitudinal Study. Multivariable locally weighted regression (LOESS) models were first used to assess the individual association of daily sleep time with the risk to develop cancer. Multivariate logistic regression models were conducted on the individual and interaction effects of daily sleep time and cooking fuel. Results We found that short sleep duration (≤6 hours) and non-clean energy consumption were respectively associated with an increased risk of cancer among older Chinese(p<0.05). We assessed daily sleep time in four quartiles, the adjusted odds ratios (AOR), and 95% confidence intervals (95% CI) for participants in the second (5.0 to <6.5 hours), third (6.5 to <8.0 hours), and fourth quartiles (≥8.0 hours) were 0.88 (95% CI: 0.65-1.20), 0.61 (95% CI: 0.40-0.91), and 0.53 (95% CI: 0.37-0.77), respectively. When we set the cutoff point(6.5 hours), participants who slept more than 6 hours had a 39% lower risk of cancer (AOR: 0.61, 95% CI: 0.46-0.79) compared with others. On the other hand, we conducted that exposure to clean fuel from cooking was negatively associated with cancer incidence (AOR: 0.73, 95% CI: 0.54, 0.97). Furthermore, the combination of longer sleep and cleaner fuels showed the lowest OR for cancer (AOR: 0.39, 95% CI: 0.24, 0.65). Conclusion Our study showed that sleep duration and clean energy consumption were significantly associated with cancer in elderly Chinese people. In addition, the prevalence of cancer was higher among people who slept less than six hours and used non-clean energy sources. Paying greater attention to the effects of sleep duration and clean energy on the risk of cancer may yield practical implications for cancer prevention.

Abstract
Chronic insomnia is undertreated in the UK despite being a common mental disorder that severely affects quality of life. The lead author, a psychiatry trainee, implemented a new group cognitive-behavioural therapy for insomnia (CBT-I) service for secondary care patients in London with chronic insomnia and comorbid mental illness. Expertise was propagated by trainees teaching other trainees. Nine patients completed all sessions, all with moderate-to-severe insomnia on the Insomnia Severity Index (ISI) at baseline assessment (mean score 21.6). All patients seen at follow-up had improved, scoring in the 'subthreshold' or 'no clinically significant insomnia' ranges on the ISI (mean 6.6), and all with improvements in comorbid psychiatric symptoms and functioning. This evaluation demonstrates that group CBT-I can be easily learned and delivered by those without formal CBT or sleep medicine training. This could increase the availability and accessibility of treatment. However, bureaucratic challenges were faced, and trainee-led innovations should be better facilitated.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Excessive noise levels may decrease patients' sleep quality and increase the risk of sleep disorders in patients. Given that only a few studies have been conducted on noise levels and sleep quality in hospitalized patients, this study investigated the effects of different noise environments on polysomnographic parameters and sleep in hospitalized patients. It also analyzed the factors associated with patients' sleep quality. METHODS A sample of 244 cases of hospitalized patients were retrospectively selected from March 2020 to March 2023. A total of 122 patients without ward noise reduction treatment were set as the control group. A total of 122 patients who were treated with ward noise reduction were set as the observation group. The polysomnographic monitoring parameters and sleep conditions levels were compared between the two groups, after which logistic regression was used to analyze the relevant factors that affected patients' sleep. RESULTS The incidence of noise level, rapid eye movement stage (R) phase proportion, nonrapid eye movement stage 1 (N1) phase proportion, and poorer sleep quality all had higher levels in the control group than in the observation group. In comparison, nonrapid eye movement stage 2 (N2) phase proportion, total sleep time (TST), and sleep efficiency (SE) were all lower than those in the observation group (P < 0.05). Regression analysis revealed that the need for surgery, having diabetes mellitus, higher noise level and low N2 percentage levels were all associated factors affecting the sleep quality of patients. CONCLUSION Environments with higher levels of noise can lead to patients' poorer sleep quality. Thus, it is necessary to actively implement noise management measures to avoid higher noise levels and maintain good sleep quality among patients.

Abstract
BACKGROUND A compositional mediation model of survival outcomes was established to explore whether 24-h time-use behaviors mediate the relationship between depression and mortality. METHODS 4137 adults from the National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey (NHANES 2005-2006) were followed up to 2019. Cox proportional hazards regression model was used to estimate the total effect of depression on mortality. Compositional data analysis was used to examine the relationship between 24-h time-use compositions and mortality. Furthermore, we constructed a compositional mediation model for survival outcomes to investigate the mediating effect of 24-h time-use behaviors on depression and mortality. RESULTS Compared with participants without depression, depressive patients had a significantly higher risk of overall mortality (HR = 1.49, 95 % CI: 1.25,1.79), cardiovascular disease -specific mortality (HR =1.89, 95 % CI: (1.37,2.63)) and mortality from causes other than cardiovascular disease or cancer (HR = 1.62, 95 % CI: (1.25,2.08)). Physical activity, especially moderate-to-vigorous physical activity, significantly mediated the relationship between depression and all-cause and CVD-specific mortality. LIMITATIONS Despite being a cohort study, the exposure and mediatiors were measured at the baseline. Further research is necessary to require a temporal order between the exposure and mediating variables. CONCLUSIONS Our findings indicate that 24-h time-use behaviors link depression to mortality. In particular, increasing the time spent on physical activity can reduce the risk of death in patients with depression. This finding provides potential interventions for reducing the risk of death in patients with depression.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Previous research has demonstrated that both sleep and physical activity (PA) are independently associated with various indicators of mental health among adults. However, their joint contribution to mental health has received limited attention. The present study used cross-sectional data from the Mental Health Million Project to examine the independent and joint effects of sleep and PA on mental health among a global sample of adults, and whether these effects differ among individuals receiving mental health treatment. METHOD The sample included 200,743 participants (33.1% young adults, 45.6% middle-aged adults, 21.3% older adults; 57.6% females, 0.9% other) from 213 countries, territories, and archipelagos worldwide that completed a comprehensive 47-item assessment of mental health including both problems (i.e., ill-being) and assets (i.e., well-being): the Mental Health Quotient. Participants also reported their weekly frequency of PA and adequate sleep, and mental health treatment status. A series of generalized linear mixed models were computed. RESULTS Independent dose-response associations were observed, whereby greater amounts of PA and adequate sleep were each associated with better mental health. In addition, a synergistic interaction was observed in which the positive correlation of PA with mental health was strengthened with greater frequency of adequate sleep. These benefits were less pronounced among adults receiving mental health treatment. CONCLUSION While findings suggest sleep can help to offset the negative influence of a physically inactive lifestyle (and vice versa), our results point to a "more is better" approach for both behaviors when it comes to promoting mental health.

Abstract
Sleep is crucial for physical and mental health, but traditional sleep quality assessment methods have limitations. This scoping review analyzes 35 articles from the past decade, evaluating 62 wearable setups with varying sensors, algorithms, and features. Our analysis indicates a trend towards combining accelerometer and photoplethysmography (PPG) data for out-of-lab sleep staging. Devices using only accelerometer data are effective for sleep/wake detection but fall short in identifying multiple sleep stages, unlike those incorporating PPG signals. To enhance the reliability of sleep staging wearables, we propose five recommendations: (1) Algorithm validation with equity, diversity, and inclusion considerations, (2) Comparative performance analysis of commercial algorithms across multiple sleep stages, (3) Exploration of feature impacts on algorithm accuracy, (4) Consistent reporting of performance metrics for objective reliability assessment, and (5) Encouragement of open-source classifier and data availability. Implementing these recommendations can improve the accuracy and reliability of sleep staging algorithms in wearables, solidifying their value in research and clinical settings.

Abstract
PURPOSE The purpose of this research is to further understand the research status and summarize the research hotspots of sleep disorder and cancer, so as to provide insights into future researches. METHODS In this research, the publications pertaining to sleep disorders and cancer from 1992 to 2022 was retrieved from SCIE and SSCI databases in the Web of Science Core Collection. The subject, journal, country/regions, institutions, author, and citations of publications were descriptively analyzed and visual analysis. RESULTS From 1992 to December 2022, a total of 732 relevant literatures were retrieved from WOS SCIE and SSCI databases, the number of publications showed an increasing trend year by year. These articles were published in 252 journals, and the three most productive journals included Supportive Care in Cancer (80 publications), Psycho-oncology (32 publications), and Journal of Pain and Symptom Management (32 publications). The three most productive countries included the USA (367 publications, 50.1%), China (133 publications, 18.2%), and Canada (97 publications, 13.25%), with total citations of 12,684, 1866, and 5263. The three latest hot keywords in this field were sleep duration, validity, and inflammation. CONCLUSION The USA, China, and Canada produced a lot of literature in the research field of sleep disorders and cancer, and had relatively great academic influence from 1992 to 2022. Researchers could pay more attention to the published in journals such as Journal of Clinical Oncology, Sleep, and Supportive Care in Cancer to timely grasp the latest progress and expand the breadth and depth in this area. Looking at the history of tumor and sleep disorder research in the past 20 years, the clinical treatment of sleep disorder caused by tumor and the direct bidirectional mechanism of the two may be a new focus of future research.

Abstract
PURPOSE The aim of the current study was to investigate the association of accelerometer-measured sleep duration and different intensities of physical activity (PA) with the risk of incident type 2 diabetes in a population-based prospective cohort study. METHODS Altogether, 88,000 participants (mean age = 62.2 ± 7.9 years, mean ± SD) were included from the UK Biobank. Sleep duration (short: <6 h/day; normal: 6-8 h/day; long: >8 h/day) and PA of different intensities were measured using a wrist-worn accelerometer over a 7-day period between 2013 and 2015. PA was classified according to the median or World Health Organization-recommendation: total volume of PA (high, low), moderate-to-vigorous PA (MVPA) (recommended, not recommended), and light-intensity PA (high, low). Incidence of type 2 diabetes was ascertained using hospital records or death registries. RESULTS During a median follow-up of 7.0 years, 1615 incident type 2 diabetes cases were documented. Compared with normal sleep duration, short (hazard ratio (HR) = 1.21, 95% confidence interval (95%CI): 1.03-1.41) but not long sleep duration (HR = 1.01, 95%CI: 0.89-1.15) was associated with excessive type 2 diabetes risk. This increased risk among short sleepers seems to be protected against by PA. Compared with normal sleepers with high or recommended PA, short sleepers with low volume of PA (HR = 1.81, 95%CI: 1.46-2.25), not recommended (below the World Health Organization-recommended level of) MVPA (HR = 1.92, 95%CI: 1.55-2.36), or low light-intensity PA (HR = 1.49, 95%CI: 1.13-1.90) had a higher risk of type 2 diabetes, while short sleepers with a high volume of PA (HR = 1.14, 95%CI: 0.88-1.49), recommended MVPA (HR = 1.02, 95%CI: 0.71-1.48), or high light-intensity PA (HR = 1.14, 95%CI: 0.92-1.41) did not. CONCLUSION Accelerometer-measured short but not long sleep duration was associated with a higher risk of incident type 2 diabetes. A higher level of PA, regardless of intensity, potentially ameliorates this excessive risk.

Abstract
Importance There are considerable socioeconomic status (SES) disparities in youth physical activity (PA) levels. For example, studies show that lower-SES youth are less active, have lower participation in organized sports and physical education classes, and have more limited access to PA equipment. Objective To determine the potential public health and economic effects of eliminating disparities in PA levels among US youth SES groups. Design and Setting An agent-based model representing all 6- to 17-year-old children in the US was used to simulate the epidemiological, clinical, and economic effects of disparities in PA levels among different SES groups and the effect of reducing these disparities. Main Outcomes and Measures Anthropometric measures (eg, body mass index) and the presence and severity of risk factors associated with weight (stroke, coronary heart disease, type 2 diabetes, or cancer), as well as direct and indirect cost savings. Results This model, representing all 50 million US children and adolescents 6 to 17 years old, found that if the US eliminates the disparity in youth PA levels across SES groups, absolute overweight and obesity prevalence would decrease by 0.826% (95% CI, 0.821%-0.832%), resulting in approximately 383 000 (95% CI, 368 000-399 000) fewer cases of overweight and obesity and 101 000 (95% CI, 98 000-105 000) fewer cases of weight-related diseases (stroke and coronary heart disease events, type 2 diabetes, or cancer). This would result in more than $15.60 (95% CI, $15.01-$16.10) billion in cost savings over the youth cohort's lifetime. There are meaningful benefits even when reducing the disparity by just 25%, which would result in $1.85 (95% CI, $1.70-$2.00) billion in direct medical costs averted and $2.48 (95% CI, $2.04-$2.92) billion in productivity losses averted. For every 1% in disparity reduction, total productivity losses would decrease by about $83.8 million, and total direct medical costs would decrease by about $68.7 million. Conclusions and Relevance This study quantified the potential savings from eliminating or reducing PA disparities, which can help policymakers, health care systems, schools, funders, sports organizations, and other businesses better prioritize investments toward addressing these disparities.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE A diagnosis of Parkinson's often leads to uncertainty about the future and loss of perceived control. Peer support may offer a means to address these concerns and promote self-management. DESIGN A programme evaluation of the feasibility and potential effects of 'First Steps', utilising a pragmatic step wedge approach. Comparing First Steps (intervention) to (control) conditions.Setting: In the community at four sites in southern England.Participants: Newly diagnosed (≤ 12months) people with Parkinson's.Intervention: First Steps was a 2-day peer-conceived, developed and led intervention to support self-management.Main measures: At 0, 12 and 24 weeks anxiety and depression (Hospital, Anxiety and Depression Scale, HADS), daily functioning (World Health Organisation Disability Assessment Schedule, WHODAS), physical activity, quality of life (EQ5D), carer strain and service utilisation were assessed. RESULTS Between February 2018 and July 2019, 36 participants were enrolled into intervention and 21 to control conditions, all were included in statistical analysis. Lost to follow up was n = 1 (intervention) and n = 1 adverse event was reported (control, unrelated). Of the 36 allocated to the intervention n = 22 participants completed both days of First Steps during the study period. Completion of outcome measures was >95% at 24 weeks. Small effects favouring the intervention were found for HADS (odds ratio (OR) = 2.06, 95% confidence interval (CI) 0.24:17.84), Carer Strain Index (OR = 2.22, 95% CI 0.5:9.76) and vigorous (d = 0.42, 95% CI -0.12:0.97) and total physical activity (d = 0.41, 95% CI -0.13:0.95). EQ5D, WHOSDAS and service utilisation, was similar between groups. CONCLUSIONS First Steps was feasible and safe and we found potential to benefit physical activity, mental health and carer strain. Further research with longer-term follow up is warranted.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE To evaluate the effects of traditional Chinese exercises on sleep quality and mental health in adults with different health statuses. METHOD : This review was registered a priori (CRD42023382188) and executed according to PRISMA statement guidelines. We searched the databases CNKI, China Biology Medicine disc (CBM), Wangfang, PubMed, Web of Science, and Embase from the date of database creation to March 2023. Two researchers independently screened the literature, extracted the data, evaluated the methodological quality of the included literature, and then used Revman 5.4 and Stata 17.0 for the corresponding statistical analysis and graphing. RESULTS Thirty-four randomized controlled trials (RCTs) were included, with a total sample of 2563 adults (1276 in the experimental group and 1287 in the control group). The meta-analysis results showed that traditional Chinese exercise significantly improved sleep quality in different groups [WMD = - 1.58, 95% CI = - 2.17, - 1.00, P < 0.00001] and that Badaanjin was better than Taijiquan in improving sleep quality. For mental health, traditional Chinese exercise had good effects on anxiety [WMD = - 1.66, 95% CI = - 2.64, - 0.69, P = 0.0009] and depression [WMD = - 1.67, 95% CI = - 3.23, - 0.11, P = 0.04]. CONCLUSION Traditional Chinese exercises can improve the quality of sleep and mental health in different groups of people and are highly recommended for good health effects.

Abstract
Light exposure affects the circadian system and consequently can affect sleep quality. Only few studies examined this relationship in children. We evaluated associations between light exposure patterns and sleep metrics in children. We measured the sleep parameters of 247 Dutch children, aged between 11 and 13 years and recruited from the ABCD cohort, using actigraphy and sleep records for 7 consecutive nights. Personal light exposures were measured with a light meter during the whole day and night. We applied generalized mixed-effects regression models, adjusted for possible confounders, to evaluate the associations of light exposure patterns on sleep duration, sleep efficiency and sleep-onset delay. In the models mutually adjusted for potential confounders, we found the amount of hours between the first time of bright light in the morning and going to sleep and the duration of bright light to be significantly associated with decreased sleep duration (in min; β: -2.02 [95% confidence interval: -3.84, -0.25], β: -8.39 [95% confidence interval: -16.70, -0.07], respectively) and with shorter sleep-onset delay (odds ratio: 0.88 [95% confidence interval: 0.80, 0.97], odds ratio: 0.40 [95% confidence interval: 0.19, 0.87], respectively). Increased light intensities at night were associated with decreased sleep duration (T2 β: -8.54 [95% confidence interval: -16.88, -0.20], T3 β: -14.83 [95% confidence interval: -28.04, -1.62]), while increased light intensities before going to bed were associated with prolonged sleep onset (odds ratio: 4.02 [95% confidence interval: 2.09, 7.73]). These findings further suggest that children may be able to influence their sleep quality by influencing the light exposure patterns during day and night.

Abstract
BACKGROUND How physical activity (PA) and different sleep traits and overall sleep pattern interact in the development of Parkinson's disease (PD) remain unknown. OBJECTIVE To prospectively investigate the joint associations of PA and sleep pattern with risk of PD. METHODS Included were 339,666 PD-free participants from the UK Biobank. Baseline PA levels were grouped into low (< 600 MET-mins/week), medium (600 to < 3000 MET-mins/week) and high (≥ 3000 MET-mins/week) according to the instructions of the UK Biobank. Healthy sleep traits (chronotype, sleep duration, insomnia, snoring, and daytime sleepiness) were scored from 0 to 5 and were categorized into "ideal sleep pattern" (≥ 3 sleep scores) and "poor sleep pattern" (0-2 sleep scores). Hazard ratios (HRs) and 95% confidence intervals (CIs) of PD were estimated by Cox proportional hazards models. RESULTS During a median of 11.8 years of follow-up, 1,966 PD events were identified. The PD risk was lower in participants with high PA (HR = 0.73; 95% CI: 0.64, 0.84), compared to those with low PA; and participants with ideal sleep pattern also had a lower risk of PD (HR = 0.78; 95% CI: 0.69, 0.87), compared to those with poor sleep pattern. When jointly investigating the combined effect, participants with both high PA and ideal sleep pattern had the lowest risk of incident PD (HR = 0.55; 95% CI: 0.44, 0.69), compared to those with low PA and poor sleep pattern; notably, participants with high PA but poor sleep pattern also gained benefit on PD risk reduction (HR = 0.74; 95% CI: 0.55, 0.99). CONCLUSIONS Both high PA and ideal sleep pattern were independently associated with lower risk of developing PD, and those with both high PA level and ideal sleep pattern had the lowest risk. Our results suggest that improving PA levels and sleep quality may be promising intervention targets for the prevention of PD.

Abstract
BACKGROUND The circadian clock and endoplasmic reticulum stress signaling play important roles in oncogenesis and development of cancer. Sleep disorders have been linked to an elevated risk of mortality in general populations. Nonetheless, the evidence for the sleep disorders-mortality association among cancer patients is limited. We aimed to prospectively investigate the association of sleep disorders with all-cause, cancer, and cardiovascular disease (CVD) mortality among cancer individuals. METHODS We assessed 3187 participants with cancer from the National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey 2005-2016 cohorts with a median follow-up time of 83.0 months. Multivariable Cox proportional hazards models estimated the adjusted hazard ratio (HR) and 95% confidence interval (CI). RESULTS Multivariable Cox proportional hazards models showed that sleep disorders were associated with a higher risk of all-cause mortality (HR 1.23, 95%CI: 1.06,1.42), cancer mortality (HR 1.30, 95%CI: 1.02, 1.66), and cardiovascular disease mortality (HR 1.35, 95%CI: 1.02, 1.80). After the total group was stratified by gender, the high HRs were observed in men (P < 0.05), not in women. The correlation between sleep disorders and higher long-term mortality was also significant after individuals who died within 2 years of follow-up were excluded, with HR 1.24 (95%CI: 1.07, 1.45) in model I, HR 1.20 (95%CI: 1.02, 1.42) in model II for long-term all-cause mortality, HR (95%CI: 1.00, 1.74) in model I for long-term cancer mortality, and HR 1.5 (95%CI:1.12, 2.02) in model I, HR 1.45 (95%CI: 1.06, 1.99) in model II for long-term CVD mortality. CONCLUSIONS Sleep disorders were associated with a higher risk of all-cause mortality, cancer mortality, and CVD mortality, as well as long-term mortality in cancer patients. Our finding underlies the importance of screening for sleep disorders for all cancer survivors and the urge to integrate sleep health as an important part of cancer care more effectively. Male individuals may be particularly vulnerable and could benefit from more frequent screening.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Baseline sleep duration is associated with cancer risk and cancer-specific mortality; however, the association between longitudinal patterns of sleep duration and these risks remains unknown. OBJECTIVE This study aimed to elucidate the association between sleep duration trajectory and cancer risk and cancer-specific mortality. METHODS The participants recruited in this study were from the Kailuan cohort, with all participants aged between 18 and 98 years and without cancer at baseline. The sleep duration of participants was continuously recorded in 2006, 2008, and 2010. Latent mixture modeling was used to identify shared sleep duration trajectories. Furthermore, the Cox proportional risk model was used to examine the association of sleep duration trajectory with cancer risk and cancer-specific mortality. RESULTS A total of 53,273 participants were included in the present study, of whom 40,909 (76.79%) were men and 12,364 (23.21%) were women. The average age of the participants was 49.03 (SD 11.76) years. During a median follow-up of 10.99 (IQR 10.27-11.15) years, 2705 participants developed cancers. Three sleep duration trajectories were identified: normal-stable (44,844/53,273, 84.18%), median-stable (5877/53,273, 11.03%), and decreasing low-stable (2552/53,273, 4.79%). Compared with the normal-stable group, the decreasing low-stable group had increased cancer risk (hazard ratio [HR] 1.39, 95% CI 1.16-1.65) and cancer-specific mortality (HR 1.54, 95% CI 1.18-2.06). Dividing the participants by an age cutoff of 45 years revealed an increase in cancer risk (HR 1.88, 95% CI 1.30-2.71) and cancer-specific mortality (HR 2.52, 95% CI 1.22-5.19) only in participants younger than 45 years, rather than middle-aged or older participants. Joint analysis revealed that compared with participants who had a stable sleep duration within the normal range and did not snore, those with a shortened sleep duration and snoring had the highest cancer risk (HR 2.62, 95% CI 1.46-4.70). CONCLUSIONS Sleep duration trajectories and quality are closely associated with cancer risk and cancer-specific mortality. However, these associations differ with age and are more pronounced in individuals aged <45 years. Abstract
Physical activity (PA) has pluripotential beneficial effects on body functions. These benefits include reduction in the incidence of cardiovascular disease (CVD), coronary heart disease (CHD), hypertension, type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM), and death. In addition to these effects, PA exerts significant beneficial effects on sleep onset, duration and quality, which add to its beneficial effects. In contrast, lack of sleep has been associated with increased incidence of CVD complications and death. In this regard, PA serves as a non-pharmacologic means for sleep improvement especially in older people, who frequently have difficulties in falling asleep. Regarding the timing of exercise and its effect on sleep, there has been no difference between morning and evening exercise on the onset and quality of sleep. With respect the beneficial cardiovascular effects of PA on sleep, there has been a debate among several investigators with some reporting significant beneficial effects of PA, and others reporting not significant beneficial effects. In order to get a better perspective on the effects of PA on quality of sleep, and its cardiovascular beneficial effects, a Medline search of the English literature was conducted between 2017 and 2023 using the terms exercise, sleep, cardiovascular disease, death and 36 pertinent papers were selected (Figure 1). The findings from these papers together with collateral literature will be discussed in this review.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Irritable bowel syndrome (IBS) substantially affects quality of life and requires early prevention. This study aimed to elucidate the relationships between IBS and daily behaviors, including sedentary behavior (SB), physical activity (PA), and sleep. In particular, it seeks to identify healthy behaviors to reduce IBS risk, which previous studies have rarely addressed. METHODS Daily behaviors were retrieved from self-reported data of 362,193 eligible UK Biobank participants. Incident cases were determined by self-report or health care data according to Rome IV criteria. RESULTS A total of 345,388 participants were IBS-free at baseline, during a median follow-up of 8.45 years, 19,885 incident IBS cases were recorded. When examined individually, SB and shorter (≤7 h/day) or longer (>7 h/day) sleep duration were each positively associated with increased IBS risk, and PA was associated with lower IBS risk. The isotemporal substitution model suggested that replacing SB with other activities could provide further protective effects against IBS risk. Among people sleeping ≤7 h/day, replacing 1 h of SB with equivalent light PA, vigorous PA, or sleep was associated with 8.1% (95% confidence interval (95%CI): 0.901-0.937), 5.8% (95%CI: 0.896-0.991), and 9.2% (95%CI: 0.885-0.932) reduced IBS risk, respectively. For people sleeping >7 h/day, light and vigorous PA were associated with a 4.8% (95%CI: 0.926-0.978) and a 12.0% (95%CI: 0.815-0.949) lower IBS risk, respectively. These benefits were mostly independent of genetic risk for IBS. CONCLUSION SB and unhealthy sleep duration are risk factors for IBS. A promising way to mitigate IBS risk for individuals sleeping ≤7 h/day and for those sleeping >7 h/day appears to be by replacing SB with adequate sleep or vigorous PA, respectively, regardless of the genetic predisposition of IBS.

Abstract
PURPOSE To investigate the cross-sectional associations between real-world multiperiod bedroom light at night and sleep parameters among 365 Chinese young adults. METHODS Bedroom light exposure was estimated at the individual level for two consecutive days using a portable illuminance meter. Subjective sleep parameters were measured with the Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index, and objective sleep parameters were assessed by wrist-worn ActiGraph accelerometers for seven consecutive days. RESULTS Compared with the low-exposure group (average light intensity < 3lx), the high-exposure group (average light intensity ≥ 3lx) was associated with decreased 1.15% in sleep efficiency (sleep efficiency, 95% CI: -1.78, -0.52; p < .001), increased 3.94 minutes in wake after sleep onset (wake after sleep onset, 95% CI: 1.55, 6.33; p = .001), increased 1.05 unit in movement index (95% CI: 0.20, 1.89; p = .015), and increased 2.16 unit in sleep fragmentation index ( 95% CI: 0.63, 3.68; p = .006). In comparison, each interquartile increase in 2h-average and 1h-average intensity of preawake light (PAL) (PAL-2h and PAL-1h) was associated with 7.04 minutes of increases in total sleep time (95% CI: 0.87, 13.22; p = .025) and 6.69 minutes of increases in total sleep time (95% CI: 0.51, 12.87; p = .034), respectively. DISCUSSION Altogether, our results support the role of bedroom light exposure in sleep and imply the importance of bedroom light exposure management as a potential strategy to reduce the public health burden of sleep problems. Keeping the bedroom environment dark at night and allowing moderate morning light exposure may be important measures for improving the sleep quality of young adults.

Abstract
Cardiovascular diseases (CVD) stand at the forefront of global mortality, presenting an immense and urgent public health challenge on a global scale. Effectively addressing the associated risk factors is pivotal in not only preventing but also stabilizing and potentially reversing the progression of these conditions. Emerging research illuminates a compelling correlation between sleep disorders and CVD. Clinically, individuals afflicted with existing CVD or those possessing risk factors frequently grapple with sleep disturbances, exacerbating their conditions, particularly in severe cases where disease progression is accelerated. Even among ostensibly healthy individuals, chronic sleep deprivation exacts a toll on cardiovascular function. The strategic implementation of exercise interventions emerges as a potent tool in enhancing sleep quality, surpassing the efficacy of pharmaceutical treatments. Furthermore, the maintenance of optimal sleep patterns significantly contributes to lowering the risk of cardiovascular diseases. This comprehensive review delves deeply into the intricate relationship between exercise and the amelioration of cardiovascular disease risk associated with sleep. Moreover, it meticulously elucidates the complex mechanisms through which exercise operates, effectively reducing cardiovascular disease risk from the unique perspective of sleep science.

Abstract
Objective Sleep issues, negative emotions, and health conditions are commonly co-occurring, whereas their associations among healthcare students have yet to be elucidated. This study aimed to examine whether anxiety and depression mediate the relationship between sleep quality and subjective well-being in healthcare students. Methods A cross-sectional survey was conducted among Chinese healthcare students (N = 348). A battery of paper-and-pencil questionnaires-the Sleep Quality Questionnaire (SQQ), World Health Organization-Five Well-Being Index (WHO-5), and Patient Health Questionnaire-4 (PHQ-4) were applied. Descriptive analysis with means (standard deviations) and counts (proportions), Spearman correlation analysis between the SQQ, WHO-5, and PHQ-4, and mediation analysis via structural equation models were performed. Results Correlation analysis revealed statistically significant associations between sleep quality, anxiety and depression, and well-being among healthcare students. Mediation analysis identified that poor sleep quality produced relatively low levels of self-reported well-being, which were entirely attributable to anxiety and depression. Conclusion Sleep quality was associated with subjective well-being, and this interrelationship was fully mediated by anxiety and depression. Interventions aimed at promoting sleep quality of healthcare students may contribute to promoting their well-being by reducing anxiety and depression.

Abstract
OBJECTIVES Insomnia was associated with cerebral structural changes and Alzheimer's disease. However, associations among cerebral perfusion, insomnia with cerebral small vessel disease (CSVD), and cognitive performance were little investigated. METHODS This cross-sectional study included 89 patients with CSVDs and white matter hyperintensities (WMHs). They were dichotomized into the normal sleep and poor sleep group, according to Pittsburgh sleep quality index (PSQI). Baseline characteristics, cognitive performance, and cerebral blood flow (CBF) were measured and compared between the two groups. The association or correlation between cerebral perfusion, cognition, and insomnia was analyzed using binary logistic regression. RESULTS Our study found that declined MoCA score (P = .0317) was more prevalent in those with poor sleep. There was a statistical difference in the recall (P = .0342) of MMSE, the delayed recall (P = .0289) of MoCA between the two groups. Logistic regression analysis showed educational background (P < .001) and insomnia severity index (ISI) score (P = .039) were independently correlated with MoCA scores. Arterial spin labeling demonstrated that left hippocampal gray matter perfusion was significantly reduced (P = .0384) in the group with poor sleep. And, negative correlation was found between left hippocampal perfusion and PSQI scores. CONCLUSIONS In the patients with CSVDs, insomnia severity was associated with cognitive decline. Left hippocampal gray matter perfusion was correlated with PSQI scores in CSVDs.
