Abstract
In the search for mild agents for the oxidative cyclization of tetrapyrromethane to the corresponding corrole, we discovered a route that leads to a monoazaporphyrin with three meso-CF3 groups. Optimization studies that allowed access to appreciable amounts of this new macrocycle paved the way for the preparation of its cobalt, copper, nickel, zinc, and iron complexes. All complexes were fully characterized by various spectroscopic methods and X-ray crystallography. Their photophysical and electrochemical properties were determined and compared to those of analogous porphyrins in order to deduce the effect of the peripheral N atom. Considering the global efforts for designing efficient alternatives to platinum group metal (PGM) catalysts, they were also absorbed onto a porous carbon electrode material and studied as electrocatalysts for the oxygen reduction reaction (ORR). The cobalt complex was found to be operative at a quite positive catalytic onset potential and with good selectivity for the desirable 4-electrons/4-protons pathway.

Abstract
A high-valent iron(IV)-oxo porphyrin radical cation (FeIV(O)(porph+•) serves as a key, reactive intermediate for a range of heme enzymes, including cytochrome P450 (CYP), horseradish peroxidase (HRP), and catalase (CAT). Synthetic analogs of this intermediate, known as Compound-I (Cpd-I) in the heme enzyme literature, have been generated with different tetrapyrrolic, macrocyclic ligands, including porphyrin derivatives, and the closely related ring-contracted macrocycles, corroles and corrolazines. These synthetic analogs have been useful for assigning and understanding structural and spectroscopic features and examining the reactivity of Cpd-I-like species in controlled and well-defined environments. This review focuses on summarizing recent developments in the synthesis and reactivity of high-valent iron-oxo porphyrinoid complexes in two main classes of reactions, proton-coupled electron transfer (PCET) and oxygen atom transfer (OAT). The relationship between the structure of the complexes and their reactivity is emphasized, including the influence of axial ligation and peripheral macrocyclic substitution, as well as the effects of solvent and secondary coordination spheres on the reactivity of the Cpd-I analogs. In bringing together the latest findings on Cpd-I analogs, this review intends to broaden our current understanding of the factors that control the stability and reactivity of Cpd-I species. This new knowledge should, in turn, point toward new synthetic strategies for constructing catalysts that rely on Cpd-I-like reactive intermediates.

Abstract
In this paper, we have explored the relativistic density functional theory study on a series of deprotonated porphyrinoid (Ln) complexes of uranyl to investigate the geometrical structures and chemical bonding. The ligands bound with uranyl in the 1:1 complexes [UO2(Ln)]x (n = 4, 5, 6; x = 0, -1, -2), showing more thermodynamic stability for "in-cavity" structures of L5 and L6 than that of the "side-on" structure of L4 and an increase in stability with the increase of negative charges, L2- < L3- < L4-. Among the six ligands, the cyclo[6]pyrrole presents the best selectivity toward uranyl. Based on chemical bonding analyses, the U-NL bond in the in-cavity complexes adopts a typical dative NL → U bond with mainly ionic bonding and significant covalency, which comes from the significant orbital interaction of U 5fϕ6dδ7s hybrid AOs and NL 2p-based MOs. This work provides a systematic understanding of the coordination chemistry in uranyl pyrrole-containing macrocycle complexes and the nature of chemical bonding in such systems, which may provide inspirations for the future design of synthetic targets that could be relevant to actinide separations or in the remediation of spent nuclear fuel.

Abstract
In contrast to the extensive development of meso functionalization of porphyrins, that of corroles has been only rarely explored until the development of practical synthetic methods of meso -free corroles in 2015. Ready availability of meso -free corroles opened up meso -functionalization chemistry of corroles, giving rise to successful synthesis of various meso-substituted corroles such as meso -halogen, meso -nitro, meso -amino, meso -oxo, and meso iminocorroles as well as meso-meso linked corrole dimers and corrole tapes. In some cases, 2NH corroles existed as stable or transient radical species. The impacts of meso -functionalization on the structures, electronic properties, optical characteristics, and aromaticity are highlighted in this Minireview.

Abstract
8,12-Dibromo-5,15-bis(pentafluorophenyl)corrole and its Ag(III) complex were prepared via intramolecular oxidative coupling of a 8,12-dibromobilane precursor. The Ag(III) complex was allowed for further transformation via Suzuki coupling reaction. Thus, 2-aminophenyl group was coupled at one of the β-positions, and subsequent demetalation followed by oxidation with MnO2 afforded 8,10-fused iminoisocorrole in good yields. The iminoisocorrole exhibited weak antiaromaticity due to the C(+)-N(-) polarized resonance contribution as evidenced by 1 H NMR spectrum, UV/vis absorption spectra, cyclic voltammetry, and theoretical calculations.

Abstract
Four bis-corroles linked by diamide bridges were synthesized through peptide-type coupling of a trans-A2 B-corrole acid with aliphatic and aromatic diamines. In the solid state, the hydrogen-bond pattern in these bis-corroles is strongly affected by the type of solvent used in the crystallization process. Although intramolecular hydrogen bonds play a decisive role, they are supported by intermolecular hydrogen bonds and weak N-H⋅⋅⋅π interactions between molecules of toluene and the corrole cores. In an analogy to mono(amido-corroles), both in crystalline state and in solutions, the aliphatic or aromatic bridge is located directly above the corrole ring. When either ethylenediamine or 2,3-diaminonaphthalene are used as linkers, incorporation of polar solvents into the crystalline lattice causes a roughly parallel orientation of the corrole rings. At the same time, both NHCO⋅⋅⋅NH corrole hydrogen bonds are intramolecular. In contrast, solvation in toluene causes a distortion with one of the hydrogen bonds being intermolecular. Interestingly, intramolecular hydrogen bonds are always formed between the -NHCO- functionality located further from the benzene ring present at the position 10-meso. In solution, the hydrogen-bonds pattern of the bis(amido-corroles) is strongly affected by the type of the solvent. Compared with toluene (strongly high-field shifted signals), DMSO and pyridine disrupt self-assembly, whereas hexafluoroisopropanol strengthens intramolecular hydrogen bonds.

Abstract
Copper complexes of corroles have recently been a subject of keen interest due to their ligand non-innocent character and unique redox properties. Here we investigated bis-copper complex of a triply-linked corrole dimer that serves as a pair of divalent metal ligands but can be reduced to a pair of trivalent metal ligands. Reaction of triply-linked corrole dimer 2 with Cu(acac)2 (acac=acetylacetonate) gave bis-copper(II) complex 2Cu as a highly planar molecule with a mean-plane deviation value of 0.020 Å, where the two copper ions were revealed to be divalent by ESR, SQUID, and XPS methods. Oxidation of 2Cu with two equivalents of AgBF4 gave complex 3Cu, which was characterized as a bis-copper(II) complex of a dicationic triply-linked corrole dimer not as the corresponding bis-copper(III) complex. In accord with this assignment, the structural parameters around the copper ions were revealed to be quite similar for 2Cu and 3Cu. Importantly, the magnetic spin-spin interaction differs depending on the redox-state of the ligand, being weak ferromagnetic in 2Cu and antiferromagnetic in 3Cu.

Abstract
A corrole is a tetrapyrrolic macrocycle known as a ring-contracted porphyrinoid. Despite the progress of the synthetic chemistry of meso-aryl-substituted corroles since the early 2000s, meso-heteroatom-substituted corroles have been scarcely reported. Herein we report that the SNAr-type substitution reaction of a meso-chlorocorrole silver complex with diphenylamine or carbazole in the presence of NaH as a base produced meso-aminocorroles. The structures, ultraviolet⁻visible spectroscopy (UV/Vis), and emission spectra of these meso-aminocorroles were discussed. Furthermore, the oxidation reaction of a meso-diphenylaminocorrole was examined, which resulted in the formation of 10,10-diethoxyisocorrole.

Abstract
Four free base corroles, 1-4, A2B, (where A = nitrophenyl, and B = pentafluorophenyl, 2, 6-difluoro, 3, 4, 5-trifluoro and 4-carboxymethylphenyl group) have been synthesized, characterized and demonstrated as excellent chemosensor for the detection of fluoride ions selectively in toluene solution. The reported corroles shows highest quantum yield in free base form of porphyrinoid systems so far. All these corrole, 1-4, have the excellent ability to sense fluoride ion. Cumulative effect of static and dynamic factors is responsible for the quenching of fluorescence which indicates the detection of fluoride ion in solution.

Abstract
Corroles are 18 π aromatic macrocyclic systems having one direct pyrrole–pyrrole linkage leading to a contracted cavity compared to porphyrins. Corroles exhibit contrasting coordination chemistry and properties compared to porphyrins. Structural modification of corroles by introducing a heteroatom in their aromatic conjugation circuit i.e., either in the core or at a meso position leads to a new class of corrinoids called heterocorroles. The core modification strategy includes replacing one or two core nitrogen atom(s) with O, S or C atoms and meso-modification involves replacing the meso-carbon atom at the 10-position with NH, NR, O, S, Se or Si atoms. This review article presents an overview of the progress in heterocorrole chemistry including their syntheses, key structural aspects and properties. Abstract
A minor modification of the reported procedure for the synthesis of a corrole dimer that is fused by the cyclooctatetraene (COT) unit, (H3tpfc)2COT, allowed for its isolation in 18% yield. Of the two redox isomers that this interesting macrocycle does form, the current focus is on the reduced form, in which each subunit resembles that of monomeric corroles with a trianionic N4 coordination core. The corresponding bis-gallium(III) complex was prepared as an entry into the potentially rich coordination chemistry of (H3tpfc)2COT. Both X-ray crystallography and DFT calculations disclosed that the COT moiety is essentially planar with very unusual nonalternating C-C bonds. The same holds true for the bis-gallium(III) complexes [(Ga-tpfc)2]COT(py)2 and [(Ga-tpfc)2]COT(py)4, obtained with one and two pyridine molecules coordinated to each metal ion, respectively. The electronic spectra of both the free base and the gallium(III) complexes display an extremely low energy band (λmax at 720-724 nm), which points toward extensive π delocalization through the COT bridge. This aspect was fully addressed by examining the interactions between the two corrole subunits in terms of electrochemistry and DFT calculations of the oxidized and reduced macrocycle. The new near-IR bands that appear upon both oxidation (λmax 1250 nm) and reduction (λmax 1780 nm) serve as additional supporting evidence for this conclusion.

Abstract
Corroles have come a long way from being a curiosity to being a mainstream research topic. They are now regularly synthesized in numerous research laboratories worldwide with diverse specific aims in mind. In this review we present a comprehensive description of corroles' synthesis, developed both before and after 1999. To aid the investigator in developing synthetic strategies, some of the sections culminate in tables containing comparisons of various methodologies leading to meso-substituted corroles. The remaining challenges are delineated. In the second part of this review, we also describe the syntheses of isocorroles and heteroanalogs of corroles such as triazacorroles (corrolazines), 10-heterocorroles, 21-heterocorroles, 22-heterocorroles, N-confused corroles, as well as norcorroles. The review is complemented with a short outlook.

Abstract
This review highlights and summarizes various optically active porphyrin and phthalocyanine molecules prepared using a wide range of structural modification methods to improve the design of novel structures and their applications. The induced chirality of some illustrative achiral bis-porphyrins with a chiral guest molecule is introduced because these systems are ideal for the identification and separation of chiral biologically active substrates. In addition, the relationship between CD signal and the absolute configuration of the molecule is analyzed through an analysis of the results of molecular modeling calculations. Possible future research directions are also discussed.

Abstract
Three novel tin(iv)corrole complexes have been prepared and characterized by various spectroscopic techniques including single crystal X-ray structural analysis. Packing diagrams of the tin(iv)corroles revealed that corrolato-tin(iv)-chloride molecules are interconnected by intermolecular C-HCl hydrogen bonding interactions. HCl distances are 2.848 Å, 3.051 Å, and 2.915 Å, respectively, for the complexes. In addition, the C-HCl angles are 119.72°, 144.70°, and 147.08°, respectively, for the complexes. It was also observed that in one of the three synthesized complexes dimers were formed, while in the other two cases 1D infinite polymer chains were formed. Well-defined and nicely organized three-dimensional hollow nanospheres (SEM images on silicon wafers) with diameters of ca. 676 nm and 661 nm are obtained in the complexes, forming 1D polymer chains. By applying a thin layer of tin(iv)corrole nanospheres to an ITO surface (AFM height images of ITO films; ∼200 nm in height), a device was fabricated with the following composition: Ag/ITO-coated glass/tin(iv)corrole nanospheres/ITO-coated glass/Ag. The resistivity (ρ) of the nanostructured film was calculated to be ∼2.4 × 10(8) Ω cm, which falls in the range of semi-insulating semiconductors. CAFM current maps at 10 V bias show bright spots with a 10-20 pA intensity and indicate that the nanospheres (∼250 nm in diameter) are the electron-conducting pathway in the device. The semi-insulating behavior arises from the non-facile electron transfer in the HOMOs of the tin(iv)corrole nanospheres.

Abstract
The unique optical properties of free-base meso-tris(5-methylthien-2-yl)corrole were compared to those of the widely investigated meso-triphenyl-substituted analogue. A combination of spectroscopic and computational experiments was undertaken to elucidate the relationship between structural features of the neutral, mono-anionic and mono-cationic forms of the corroles and their corresponding optical properties. A general bathochromic shift was measured for the thienyl-substituted corrole. The experimental spectra are supported by excited state calculations. A systematic series of ground state minimizations were performed to determine energy minima for the flexible and solvent-sensitive molecules. Trithienylcorrole was found to have a more nonplanar macrocycle in conjunction with a high degree of π-overlap with the meso-substituents. Both structural features contribute to their bathochromically shifted optical spectra. The configurational character of the thienyl-substituted corrole is shown to have a larger degree of molecular orbital mixing and doubly excited character, which suggest a more complex electronic structure that does not fully adhere to the Gouterman four-orbital model. The reactivity of the thienyl groups, particularly with respect to their ability to be (electro)-polymerized, combined with the tight coupling of the meso-thienyl groups with the corrole chromophore elucidated in this work, recommends the meso-thienylcorroles as building blocks in, for instance, organic semiconductor devices.
