Abstract
BACKGROUND Health-related quality of life (HRQoL) reflects an individual's perception of their physical and mental health over time. Despite numerous studies linking physical activity to improved HRQoL, most rely on self-reported data, limiting the accuracy and generalizability of findings. This study leverages objective accelerometer data to explore the association between physical activity and HRQoL in Korean adults. OBJECTIVE The objective of this study is to analyze the relationship between objectively measured physical activity using accelerometers and HRQoL among Korean adults, aiming to inform targeted interventions for enhancing HRQoL through physical activity. METHODS This observational study included 1298 participants aged 19-64 years from the Korea National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey (KNHANES) VI, who wore an accelerometer for 7 consecutive days. HRQoL was assessed using the EQ-5D questionnaire, and physical activity was quantified as moderate-to-vigorous physical activity accelerometer-total (MVPA-AT) and accelerometer-bout (MVPA-AB). Data were analyzed using logistic regression to determine the odds ratio (ORs) for low HRQoL, adjusting for socioeconomic variables and mental health factors. RESULTS Participants with higher HRQoL were younger, more likely to be male, single, highly educated, employed in white-collar jobs, and had higher household incomes. They also reported less stress and better subjective health status. The high HRQoL group had significantly more participants meeting MVPA-AB ≥600 metabolic equivalents (P<.01). Logistic regression showed that participants meeting MVPA-AB ≥600 metabolic equivalents had higher odds of high HRQoL (OR 1.55, 95% CI 1.11-2.17). Adjusted models showed consistent results, although the association weakened when adjusting for mental health factors (OR 1.45, 95% CI 1.01-2.09). CONCLUSIONS The study demonstrates a significant association between HRQoL and moderate to vigorous physical activity sustained for at least 10 minutes, as measured by accelerometer. These findings support promoting physical activity, particularly sustained moderate to vigorous activity, to enhance HRQoL. Further interventional studies focusing on specific physical activity domains such as occupational, leisure-time, and commuting activities are warranted.

Abstract
OBJECTIVES Coexistence of mental and physical health conditions is prevalent. To achieve optimal physical therapy outcomes, neither should be treated in isolation. This review aimed to map intersections between physical therapy and mental health. METHODS This was a scoping review searching MEDLINE, CINAHL, PsycInfo, Cochrane, and PEDro databases. Two independent researchers screened studies of physical therapy practice with adolescents/adults with mental health disorders or research using primary mental health outcomes in physical health conditions or clinicians' perspective. Data were extracted on study type, participants, topics, publication year, and country. RESULTS The search yielded 3633 studies with 135 included. Five studies included adolescents. More than one-half were published since 2015. Studies specific to participants with mental health diagnoses included schizophrenia (n = 12), depressive disorders (n = 8), eating disorders (n = 6), anxiety disorders (n = 4), bipolar disorders (n = 1), somatic disorders (n = 5), and trauma and stressor-related disorders (n = 8) or varied mental health diagnoses (n = 14). Forty-one studies had primary mental health outcomes or clinical practice approaches with a mental health emphasis with participants with physical health conditions (musculoskeletal [n = 13], neurological [n = 7], other [n = 21]). Systematic reviews or randomized controlled trials predominantly involved exercise therapy and/or physical activity. Descriptions of physical therapists as participants (n = 35) included 4 main topics: (1) mental health screening; (2) knowledge, attitudes, and experiences; (3) key practice components; and (4) research priorities. CONCLUSION Physical therapy intersects with people experiencing mental health disorders across a broad spectrum of diagnoses, covering a range of interventions with a small but growing evidence base. IMPACT Exercise and physical activity studies dominated the highest levels of evidence and future focus, although economic evaluations and consumer-driven or patient experience studies are needed. There is a contrast between the confidence and knowledge of specialized physical therapists working within mental health settings and those in general practice settings. Inspiring, integrated education is required to further improve health care outcomes following physical therapy for people with mental health disorders or symptoms.

Abstract
Background Depression has been recognized as one of the most significant factors affecting mental health status. For this reason, several efforts to prevent and reduce depression in all ages have been made in various domains to identify the relevant factors as well as the causes of depression. The objective of this meta-analysis was to examine the effect size between physical fitness and depression in adolescents and adults. Methods A systematic search for meta-analysis (2009-2020) was performed using PubMed, Scopus, Web of Science, and RISS, with key terms such as depression, depressive illness, and physical fitness or fitness. Overall, 19 out of 448 articles were included in the meta-analysis with strict inclusion criteria. Results The effect size is a medium between physical fitness and depression in adolescents and adults. Two fitness factors, namely cardiovascular endurance and muscle strength, are more relevant for alleviating depression in adolescents and adults, whereas agility was not related to depression. In particular, the cardiovascular fitness factor has an impact on almost all ages; however, muscular strength has less impact on depression in young adolescents, but has a great impact on older adults' depression. Conclusion The effect size in this study is a medium between physical fitness and depression in adolescents and adults. Thus, more longitudinal and clinical studies with larger sample sizes are needed to clarify the relationship between physical fitness and depression.

Due to the worldwide high prevalence of psychiatric disorders and its association with sedentary behavior and comorbid physical diseases, increasing physical activity in psychiatric populations is of high importance. Regular physical activity is associated with increased mental wellbeing and has shown to have preventive effects on depression, anxiety disorders and probably sleep disorders. Additionally, positive effects on comorbid chronic physical diseases have been found. Exercise as treatment for several weeks has shown to have an antidepressant effect. Similar positive effects on symptoms have been found in anxiety disorders and schizophrenia. Therefore, assessing and promoting physical activity is advisable in clinical psychiatric practice. Patients should be coached to reach at least a weekly average of 150 minutes of moderate and/or 75 minutes of vigorous physical activity. Establishing physical activity and exercise groups is of utmost importance for psychiatric outpatients.

Abstract
PURPOSE The aim of this study was to investigate the effect of nurse-led intervention programs on patients' physical health, physical activities, healthy lifestyle behaviors, and quality of life. DESIGN AND METHODS The research was conducted with a quasi-experimental design. The sample consisted of 33 individuals with severe mental illness. Data were collected with the Healthy Lifestyle Behavior Scale II, the Short Form-36 Quality-of-Life Instrument, and pedometers. FINDINGS The individuals in the intervention group showed a statistically significant decrease in waist circumference and increases in the physical activity and nutrition dimensions of healthy lifestyle behaviors and the physical function of quality of life. No statistically significant changes were detected in anthropometric measurements, healthy lifestyle behaviors, or quality-of-life subscales in the control group. PRACTICE IMPLICATIONS Mental health nursing and psychiatric nurses should plan and implement interventions to encourage healthy eating and physical activity for patients.

Abstract
Flexibility refers to the intrinsic properties of body tissues that determine maximal joint range of motion without causing injury. For many years, flexibility has been classified by the American College of Sports Medicine as a major component of physical fitness. The notion flexibility is important for fitness has also led to the idea static stretching should be prescribed to improve flexibility. The current paper proposes flexibility be retired as a major component of physical fitness, and consequently, stretching be de-emphasized as a standard component of exercise prescriptions for most populations. First, I show flexibility has little predictive or concurrent validity with health and performance outcomes (e.g., mortality, falls, occupational performance) in apparently healthy individuals, particularly when viewed in light of the other major components of fitness (i.e., body composition, cardiovascular endurance, muscle endurance, muscle strength). Second, I explain that if flexibility requires improvement, this does not necessitate a prescription of stretching in most populations. Flexibility can be maintained or improved by exercise modalities that cause more robust health benefits than stretching (e.g., resistance training). Retirement of flexibility as a major component of physical fitness will simplify fitness batteries; save time and resources dedicated to flexibility instruction, measurement, and evaluation; and prevent erroneous conclusions about fitness status when interpreting flexibility scores. De-emphasis of stretching in exercise prescriptions will ensure stretching does not negatively impact other exercise and does not take away from time that could be allocated to training activities that have more robust health and performance benefits.

Abstract
In the context of workplace health promotion, physical activity programs have been shown to reduce musculoskeletal diseases and stress, and to improve the quality of life. The aim of this study was to examine the effects of using the “five-Business” stretch training device for office workers on their quality of life. A total of 313 office workers (173m/137f) participated voluntarily in this intervention–control study with an average age of 43.37 ± 11.24 (SD) years, 175.37 ± 9.35 cm in height and 75.76 ± 15.23 kg in weight, with an average BMI of 24.5 ± 3.81 kg/m2. The participants completed the stretch training twice a week for approximately 10 min for a duration of 12 weeks. The SF-36 questionnaire was used to evaluate the effectiveness of the intervention at baseline and after 12 weeks. Significantly improved outcomes in mental sum score (p = 0.008), physical functioning (p < 0.001), bodily pain (p = 0.01), vitality (p = 0.025), role limitations due to physical problems (p = 0.018) and mental health (p = 0.012) were shown after the stretching training. The results suggest that a 12-week stretching program for office desk workers is suitable to improve significantly their health-related quality of life.

Abstract
Background Despite numerous studies providing evidence for positive effects of physical activity and physical fitness, evidence for association between physical fitness and health-related quality of life (HRQoL) in young adults is limited. The aim of the present cross-sectional study was to investigate the association of cardiorespiratory and muscular fitness with HRQoL from the perspective of its physical and mental components among young adult Finnish males. Methods The sample consisted of 754 men, with the mean age of 26 years (SD 6.7 years), who participated in the military refresher training. HRQoL was measured using the Finnish RAND 36-item health survey. Cardiorespiratory fitness was determined by a bicycle ergometer test, and muscular fitness by various tests measuring maximal strength and muscular endurance. Logistic regression modelling was used to compare low, moderate and high physical and mental component of HRQoL scores to the respective levels of muscular and cardiorespiratory fitness. Results The findings of the adjusted (age, educational level, marital status, employment status, smoking, use of alcohol and BMI) analysis showed that cardiorespiratory and muscular fitness are positively associated with both physical and mental components of HRQoL. In terms of the physical component of HRQoL, even a moderate fitness level was positively associated with better HRQoL. In terms of the mental component of HRQoL, the impact was seen only in the group with the highest fitness level. Conclusions The findings suggest a positive contribution of physical fitness to mental health and highlight the importance of both muscular and cardiorespiratory fitness in the promotion of HRQoL. Even lighter forms of physical activity that result in moderate physical fitness could contribute to the physical component of HRQoL. In terms of the mental component of HRQoL, higher levels of physical fitness may be needed to gain higher levels of HRQoL among young males.

Abstract
This study investigated whether non-exercise-based estimation of cardiorespiratory fitness (eCRF) mediates the association between health-related quality of life (HRQoL) and comorbidities in older Korean adults with diabetes. A total of 1371 Korean adults (56% women) aged 60 years and older with diabetes was drawn from those who participated in the 2008-2011 Korea National Health and Nutrition Examination Surveys IV and V. Data on comorbidities included hypertension, heart disease (acute myocardial infarction or angina), stroke, arthritis, and chronic renal disease. HRQoL was assessed using the EuroQoL group, which consists of a health-status descriptive system and a visual analogue scale. eCRF was determined with sex-specific algorithms. Age, sex, household income, education level, marital status, smoking, alcohol consumption, and regular exercise were additionally measured as covariates. HRQoL found to be inversely associated with number of comorbidities and positively associated with increasing eCRF category (from low to high) in older Korean patients with diabetes. The Sobel mediation test showed a significant indirect effect (Z = -4.632, p < 0.001), and the result of a bootstrap procedure corroborated the Sobel test result: a non-zero range in the 95% bias-corrected confidence interval (95% CI -1.104 to -0.453) indicated that eCRF mediates the impact of comorbidities on HRQoL. Overall, the current findings suggest that enhancing CRF can facilitate positive outcomes, including better HRQoL, for patients with diabetes.

Abstract
BACKGROUND People with severe mental disorders (SMDs) suffer problems of obesity, a sedentary life, and poor physical condition, mainly due to low levels of physical activity. Self-efficacy (SE) and social support (SS) are important components that influence participation in physical activity. METHODS This study adapted a scale to assess SE and SS in promoting physical activity in Spanish people with SMDs, as well as provide preliminary evidence of its validity. One hundred Spanish patients (23% female) with SMDs, between 26 and 61 years old, completed the SE/SS assessment for SMD (SE/SS-ASMD). RESULTS The instrument seemed to capture a four-factor structure in people with SMDs. Due to the lack of a gold standard, the scale was related to other instruments with which it might be expected to show a correlation, such as those for physical activity and its quality; however, the levels of correlation found were low (≈0.3). The Internal consistency (Cronbach's α) for the SE-ASMD, SS-ASMD staff, SS-ASMD peers, and SS-ASMD family scales were 0.76, 0.76, 0.80, and 0.80, respectively. CONCLUSIONS The psychometric analysis of the SE/SS-ASMD supported its suitability as a new tool for researchers in the area of physical activity among people with SMDs.

Abstract
Background Cognitive impairment and psychological distress are common in intensive care unit (ICU) survivors. Early identification of affected individuals is important, so intervention and treatment can be utilized at an early stage. Cognitive Failures Questionnaire (CFQ) is commonly used to screen for subjective cognitive function, but it is unclear whether CFQ scores correlate to objective cognitive function in this population. Methods Between 2014 and 2018, 100 ICU survivors aged 18–70 years from the general ICU at the Karolinska University Hospital, Solna, were included in the study. Out of these, 58 patients completed follow-up at 3 months after ICU discharge, 51 at 6 months, and 45 at 12 months. Follow-up included objective cognitive function testing using the Cambridge Neuropsychological Test Automated Battery (CANTAB) and subjective cognitive function testing with the self-rating Cognitive Failures Questionnaire (CFQ), as well as psychological self-rating with the Post-Traumatic Stress Symptoms Scale-10 (PTSS-10) and Hospital Anxiety and Depression Scale (HADS). Results The prevalence of cognitive impairment as measured by four selected CANTAB tests was 34% at 3 months after discharge, 18% at 6 months, and 16% at 12 months. There was a lack of significant correlation between CANTAB scores and CFQ scores at 3 months (r = − 0.134–0.207, p > 0.05), at 6 months (r = − 0.106–0.257, p > 0.05), and at 12 months after discharge (r = − 0.070–0.109, p > 0.05). Correlations between CFQ and PTSS-10 scores and HADS scores, respectively, were significant over the follow-up period (r = 0.372–0.710, p ≤ 0.001–0.023). In contrast, CANTAB test scores showed a weak correlation with PTSS-10 and HADS scores, respectively, at 3 months only (r = − 0.319–0.348, p = 0.008–0.015). Conclusion We found no clinically relevant correlation between subjective and objective cognitive function in this cohort of ICU survivors, while subjective cognitive function correlated significantly with psychological symptoms throughout the follow-up period. Treatment and evaluation of ICU survivors’ recovery need to consider both subjective and objective aspects of cognitive impairment, and subjective reports must be interpreted with caution as an indicator of objective cognitive function.
