Surgical repair of the anomalous origin of the right pulmonary artery from the ascending aorta

An adult with central cyanosis and differential pulmonary vascularity

A 22-year-old male patient presented with progressive effort intolerance of 2-years duration. Clinical findings and investigations were suggestive of Tetralogy of Fallot (TOF). In addition, there was a conspicuous difference in the pulmonary vascularity with oligemia on the left side and relative hypervascularity on the right side. The right pulmonary artery was arising from the proximal ascending aorta and the main pulmonary artery was continuing as the left pulmonary artery. The anomalous origin of a branch pulmonary artery from the aorta (AOPA) is a rare cardiac anomaly. We report this condition in association with TOF, highlighting the differential pulmonary vascularity.

One-stage total repair of anomalous origin of right pulmonary artery from aorta by the double-flap technique, followed by coarctation repair using extended end-to-end arch reconstruction

The anomalous origin of the right pulmonary artery from the ascending aorta combined with coarctation of aorta is a rare congenital malformation. The method chosen for performing a prompt surgery to correct the multiple disease lesions is important. Here we report one-stage surgical strategy which involved a double-flap technique alongside an extended end-to-end arch reconstruction in a newborn baby.

Anomalous origin of the right pulmonary artery from the abdominal aorta with aberrant right subclavian artery and left patent ductus arteriosus

Anomalous origin of the pulmonary artery (AOPA) from the aorta is a rare congenital heart malformation. This report describes a case of AOPA from the abdominal aorta in association with an aberrant right subclavian artery and a patent ductus arteriosus, which never has been reported previously in the literature.
