Abstract
Purpose This study was designed to analyze correlations between the uric acid to high-density lipoprotein cholesterol ratio (UHR) and peripheral nerve conduction velocity (NCV) among type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) patients. Patients and Methods This was a single-center cross-sectional analysis of 324 T2DM patients. All patients were separated into a group with normal NCV (NCVN) and a group with abnormal NCV (NCVA). Patients were also classified into groups with low and high UHR values based on the median UHR in this study cohort. Neurophysiological data including motor and sensory conduction velocity (MCV and SCV, respectively) were measured for all patients. Results Relative to patients with low UHR values, those in the high UHR group presented with greater NCVA prevalence (P = 0.002). UHR remained negatively correlated with bilateral superficial peroneal nerve SCV, bilateral common peroneal nerve MCV, bilateral ulnar nerve SCV, and bilateral right median nerve MCV even after adjustment for confounding factors. UHR was identified as an NCVA-related risk factor, with a 1.370-fold increase in NCVA prevalence for every unit rise in UHR (P < 0.001). Conclusion These results identify UHR as a risk factor associated with NCVA that was independently negatively associated with NCV among T2DM patients.

Abstract
Background It has been reported recently that the ratio of uric acid to high-density lipoprotein cholesterol (UHR) is correlated with several metabolic disorders. The present study aimed to investigate the associations of UHR with body fat content and distribution. Methods This study enrolled 300 participants (58 men and 242 women) aged 18 to 65 years. The levels of serum uric acid and high-density lipoprotein cholesterol were measured by standard enzymatic methods. The overall fat content and segmental fat distribution were assessed with an automatic bioelectrical impedance analyzer. In the population with obesity, the visceral fat area (VFA) and subcutaneous fat area (SFA) were measured using magnetic resonance imaging. Results Among the study population, 219 individuals (73.0%) were with obesity. The median level of UHR in individuals with obesity was 33.7% (26.2% - 45.9%), which was significantly higher than that in those without obesity [22.6% (17.0% - 34.4%), P < 0.01]. UHR was positively associated with overall fat content and segmental fat distribution parameters (all P < 0.01). In multivariate linear regression analysis, compared with body mass index, waist circumference was more closely associated with UHR (standardized β = 0.427, P < 0.001) after adjusting for confounding factors. Additionally, total fat mass (standardized β = 0.225, P = 0.002) and trunk fat mass (standardized β = 0.296, P = 0.036) were more closely linked to UHR than total fat-free mass and leg fat mass, respectively. In the population with obesity, VFA was independently correlated with UHR (P < 0.01), while SFA was not associated with UHR. Conclusion UHR was significantly associated with overall fat content and trunk fat accumulation. In the population with obesity, UHR was positively associated with VFA. Attention should be paid to the role of excessive trunk fat mass in the relationship between UHR and metabolic disorders.

Abstract
BACKGROUND AND AIMS Uric acid to high-density lipoprotein cholesterol ratio (UHR) is a novel index of metabolism and inflammation proposed by recent studies. The prognostic value of UHR is undetermined in patients with coronary chronic total occlusion (CTO). The aim of this study was to investigate the association of UHR with adverse cardiovascular events in patients with CTO. METHODS AND RESULTS In this retrospective cohort study, we enrolled 566 patients with CTO lesion in our hospital from January 2016 to December 2019. Patients were divided into three groups based on UHR level. The primary endpoint was major adverse cardiovascular event (MACE), defined as a combination of death, non-fatal MI, target vessel revascularization (TVR), and non-fatal stroke. The median follow-up time of this study was 43 months. During the follow-up, 107 (18.9%) MACEs were recorded. Kaplan-Meier survival plots show the cumulative incidence of MACE-free decreased across tertile of UHR (log-rank test, p < 0.001). In the fully adjusted model, the Hazard ratio (95% CI) of MACE was 2.16 (1.17-3.99) in tertile 3 and 2.01 (1.62-2.49) for per SD increase in UHR. CONCLUSION Elevated UHR predicts an increasing risk of MACE in patients with CTO. UHR is a simple and reliable indicator for risk stratification and early intervention in CTO patients.

Abstract
Purpose Triglyceride-Glucose (TyG) index is a surrogate marker of insulin resistance. This study compared the performance of TyG index and the Finnish diabetes risk score (FINDRISC) in diabetes risk prediction. Methods This cross-sectional study involved 122 young adults (aged 15-35 years) in Asaba, Delta State, Nigeria. Anthropometric measurements and biochemical analysis were done following standard protocols. Diabetes risk scoring was done using the FINDRISC questionnaire. TyG index was calculated logarithmically. Discrimination between TyG index and FINDRISC was done by plotting receiver operating characteristic (ROC) curves. Results High risk participants had significantly (p < 0.001) higher mean values of body mass index (BMI), waist circumference (WC), waist-to-hip ratio (WHR) relative to the lower risk categories. Participants in TyG index Quartile 4 had significantly higher mean values of triglyceride (p < 0.001) and fasting plasma glucose (p < 0.05). BMI and triglyceride had the most significant (p < 0.001) positive correlation with FINDRISC and TyG index, respectively. A moderately elevated to high risk (FINDRISC ≥ 12) of developing diabetes was found in 14.8% of the participants; with a female preponderance (20.6%) relative to males (7.4%). More than half of the participants (52.5%) had slightly elevated risk and differences in diabetes risk susceptibility were significant (p < 0.001) across gender. FINDRISC had an AUC value of 0.826 while TyG index had an AUC value of 0.628 for diabetes risk prediction. Conclusion FINDRISC had a better performance than TyG index in the prediction of diabetes risk in this population. The use of other TyG-related parameters rather than TyG index is recommended in future studies. Abstract
INTRODUCTION We investigated the association of serum uric acid to high-density lipoprotein ratio (UHR) with the presence and severity of metabolic syndrome (MetS) among MASHAD cohort participants. METHODS In this cross-sectional study, according to International Diabetes Federation criteria, the cohort participants were divided into MetS (+) and MetS (-) groups. MetS (+) were classified into Group 1 (those with 3 MetS criteria), Group 2 (those with 4 MetS criteria) and Group 3 (those with 5 MetS criteria). UHR was compared among the groups. RESULTS Data related to 9637 subjects including 3824 MetS (+) and 5813 MetS (-) were analysed. The mean UHR was significantly higher (p < .001) in the MetS (+) group compared with the MetS (-) group. UHR increased as the MetS severity increased (p < .001). ROC analysis revealed that UHR greater than 9.5% has 89.07% sensitivity and 77.03% specificity in differentiating MetS (-) from MetS (+) subjects. CONCLUSION Among MASHAD cohort study participants, a significant association between UHR and MetS was found. Furthermore, there is an increase in UHR as the severity of MetS increases. Abstract
OBJECTIVES To explore the relationship between serum uric acid (UA) and high-density lipoprotein cholesterol (HDL-C) ratio (UHR) and metabolic syndrome (MetS) in nondiabetic individuals. METHODS A total of 15,760 nondiabetic participants were screened from the China National Diabetes and Metabolic Disorders Study. Pearson correlation was used to determine the correlation between the components of MetS and UHR, HDL-C, and UA. Receiver operating characteristic curves were used to evaluate the ability of UHR, HDL-C, and UA to identify MetS in the nondiabetic population. RESULTS A total of 6,386 men and 9,374 women were enrolled in this study. There were 1,480 (23.2%) men and 1,828 (19.5%) women with MetS. UHR significantly correlated with the components of MetS in men and women, especially with waist circumference and triglyceride. In men, although HDL-C showed a higher specificity index, UHR presented higher sensitivity index and area under the curve (AUC) than HDL-C (P = 0.0001) and UA (P < 0.0001), with AUC (95% CI) of 0.762 (0.752-0.773). Higher AUCs of UHR relative to HDL-C and UA were also observed in the age groups <40 and 40-59 years. There was no significant difference in AUC between UHR and HDL-C in the age group ≥60 years (P = 0.370). However, similar results were not observed in women. CONCLUSION UHR significantly correlated with the components of MetS and could serve as a novel and reliable marker for identifying the population at a high risk of MetS in nondiabetic men, especially in younger adults.

Abstract
Background The significance of uric acid (UA) and high-density lipoprotein cholesterol (HDL-C) in the prognosis of acute myocardial infarction (AMI) remains controversial. This study investigated the effect of the interaction between UA and HDL-C on the prognosis of patients with AMI. Methods In total, 480 patients with AMI were included in this study. Baseline and follow-up data were collected, and the primary endpoint was major adverse cardiovascular events (MACE). The secondary endpoint was all-cause death. Both additive and multiplicative interactions were calculated to evaluate their interaction with prognosis. Then, the impact of UA and HDL-C ratio (UHR) on prognosis was assessed. Results Over a median follow-up period of 41 (30,46) months, 136 (28.3%) MACEs, and 44 (9.2%) deaths were recorded. There was a positive additive interaction between UA and HDL-C for MACEs. The attributable proportion (AP) showed that 46% of the estimated effect (MACE in patients) was attributable to this interaction. The synergy index (SI) was 2.04 (1.07,3.88) for MACE, indicating that the risk for patients presenting with both risk factors was greater than the sum of the risk factors alone. Multivariate Cox regression analysis revealed that UHR independently predicted MACEs and mortality. Kaplan-Meier survival curves according to tertiles of UHR showed statistically significant differences in MACE (log-rank test, P < 0.001). Receiver operating characteristic (ROC) analysis showed that the area under the curve (AUC) of UHR for predicting MACE was 0.716. Conclusion The coexistence of high UA and low HDL-C has a synergistic effect and provides further information for risk stratification of patients with AMI. UHR is a simple and easily available prognostic indicator independent of traditional risk factors.
