Abstract
ETHNOPHARMACOLOGICAL RELEVANCE Mountain-cultivated Panax ginseng C.A.Mey. (MCG) with high market price and various properties was valuable special local product in Northeast of Asia. MCG has been historically used to mitigate heart failure (HF) for thousand years, HF is a clinical manifestation of deficiency of "heart-qi" in traditional Chinese medicine. However, there was little report focus on the activities of extracted residue of MCG. AIM OF THE STUDY A novel glycopeptide (APMCG-1) was isolated from step ethanol precipitations of alkaline protease-assisted extract from MCG residue. MATERIALS AND METHODS The molecular weight and subunit structure of APMCG-1 were determined by FT-IR, HPLC and GPC technologies, as well as the H9c2 cells, Tg (kdrl:EGFP) zebrafish were performed to evaluated the protective effect of APMCG-1. RESULTS APMCG-1 was identified as a glycopeptide containing seven monosaccharides and seven amino acids via O-lined bonds. Further, in vitro, APMCG-1 significantly decreased reactive oxygen species production and lactate dehydrogenase contents in palmitic acid (PA)-induced H9c2 cells. APMCG-1 also attenuated endoplasmic reticulum stress and mitochondria-mediated apoptosis in H9c2 cells via the PI3K/AKT signaling pathway. More importantly, APMCG-1 reduced the blood glucose, lipid contents, the levels of heart injury, oxidative stress and inflammation of 5 days post fertilization Tg (kdrl:EGFP) zebrafish with type 2 diabetic symptoms in vivo. CONCLUSIONS APMCG-1 protects PA-induced H9c2 cells while reducing cardiac dysfunction in zebrafish with type 2 diabetic symptoms. The present study provides a new insight into the development of natural glycopeptides as heart-related drug therapies.

Abstract
Apostichopus japonicus, also known as Stichopus japonicus, with medicinal and food homologous figures, is a globally recognized precious ingredient with extremely high nutritional value. There is no relevant review available through literature search, so this article selects the research articles through the keywords "sea cucumber" and "Apostichopus japonicus (Stichopus japonicus)" in six professional databases, such as Wiley, PubMed, ScienceDirect, ACS, Springer, and Web of Science, from 2000 to the present, summarizing the extraction, isolation, and purification methods for the four major categories (polysaccharides, proteins and peptides, saponins, and other components) of the A. japonicus chemical substances and 10 effective biological activities of A. japonicus. Included are anticoagulation, anticancer/antitumor activities, hematopoiesis, regulation of gut microbiota, and immune regulatory activities that correspond to traditional efficacy. Literature support is provided for the development of medicines and functional foods and related aspects that play a leading role in future directions.

Abstract
The antioxidant activity in vitro and in vivo of Actinopyga miliaris hydrolysate (AMH) was investigated. The proportion of oligopeptides with 150-1000 Da in AMH was 65.48%. The IC50 values of 2,2'-azino-bis(3-ethylbenzothiazoline-6-sulfonic acid), hydroxyl radical scavenging ability, and ferric ion reducing power of AMH were 0.37, 3.43, and 24.15 mg/mL, respectively. Compared with the control group, the body length of Caenorhabditis elegans fed with 8 mg/mL AMH extended from 632.08 μm to 1009.57 μm, and the swallowing frequency and head-swing frequency increased significantly. After being fed with AMH, the lifespan of C. elegans can be prolonged even under stress conditions, primarily due to superoxide dismutase activity, catalase activity, reduced glutathione content, and total antioxidant capacity in C. elegans increased, whereas reactive oxygen species level was reduced. The results showed that AMH had in vitro and in vivo antioxidant activity, which can alleviate oxidative damage and prolong life of C. elegans.

Abstract
The objective of this study was to prepare an angiotensin I-converting enzyme (ACE)-inhibitory peptide from the hydrothermal vent mussel, Gigantidas vrijenhoeki. The G. vrijenhoeki protein was hydrolyzed by various hydrolytic enzymes. The peptic hydrolysate exhibited the highest ACE-inhibitory activity and was fractionated into four molecular weight ranges by ultrafiltration. The <1 kDa fraction exhibited the highest ACE inhibitory activity and was found to have 11 peptide sequences. Among the analyzed peptides, KLLWNGKM exhibited stronger ACE inhibitory activity and an IC50 value of 0.007 μM. To investigate the ACE-inhibitory activity of the analyzed peptides, a molecular docking study was performed. KLLWNGKM exhibited the highest binding energy (-1317.01 kcal/mol), which was mainly attributed to the formation of hydrogen bonds with the ACE active pockets, zinc-binding motif, and zinc ion. These results indicate that G. vrijenhoeki-derived peptides can serve as nutritional and pharmacological candidates for controlling blood pressure.

Abstract
There are many high-altitude plants such as Skimmia anquetilia that are unexplored for their possible medicinal values. The present study was conducted to examine the antioxidant activities of Skimmia anquetilia (SA) using in vitro and in vivo models. The SA hydro-alcoholic extracts were investigated using LC-MS for their chemical constituents. The essential oil and hydro-alcoholic extracts of SA were evaluated for pharmacological properties. The antioxidant properties were evaluated using in vitro DPPH, reducing power, cupric reducing antioxidant power, and metal chelating assays. The anti-hemolytic activity was carried out using a human blood sample. The in vivo antioxidant activities were evaluated using CCL4-induced hepatotoxicity and nephrotoxicity assay. The in vivo evaluation included histopathological examination, tissue biochemical evaluation such as the kidney function test, catalase activity, reduced glutathione activity, and lipid peroxidation estimation. The phytochemical investigation showed that the hydro-alcoholic extract contains multiple important active constituents such as L-carnosine, acacetin, linoleic acid, leucylleucyl tyrosine, esculin sesquihydrate, etc., similar to the components of SA essential oil reported in a previous study. The high amount of total phenolic content (TPC) and total flavonoid content (TFC) reflect (p < 0.001) a high level of reducing power, cupric reducing, and metal chelating properties. This significantly (p < 0.001) inhibited enlargement of the liver, with a significant reduction in ALT (p < 0.01) and AST (p < 0.001). Highly significant improvement in the functioning of the kidney was noted using the blood urea and creatinine (p < 0.001) levels. Tissue-based activities showed a major rise in catalase, reduced glutathione, and reduced lipid peroxidation activities. We conclude from this study that the occurrence of a high quantity of flavonoid and phenolic contents had strong antioxidant properties, leading to hepatoprotective and nephroprotective activity. Further active constituent-specific activities should be evaluated.

Abstract
In this study, seahorse peptide (SHP) was isolated from an alcalase-treated hydrolysate from Hippocampus abdominalis and assessed for its antioxidant potential against AAPH-induced oxidative stress damage. AAPH stimulation significantly decreased cell viability and increased intracellular reactive oxygen species (ROS) production in Vero cells. SHP treatment increased cell viability and remarkably lowered ROS production under AAPH-induced oxidative stress. Furthermore, it protected against AAPH-induced apoptotic DNA damage. Western blot analysis demonstrated that SHP treatment remarkably increased the protein expression levels of catalase and SOD in AAPH-induced Vero cells. A zebrafish study revealed that SHP-treated zebrafish embryos resulted in lower cell death, ROS generation, and lipid peroxidation than the AAPH-treated group. These results suggest that SHP is a potent functional antioxidant that could be developed as a natural antioxidant in the food and functional food industries.

Abstract
In this study, we investigated the potential antioxidant abilities of low-molecular weight fucoidans from enzyme-assisted hydrolysates of Sargassum autumnale, based on molecular weight changes, in vitro and in vivo. The yield and free radical-scavenging activities of enzyme-assisted hydrolysates of S. autumnale were screened. The protamex-assisted hydrolysate of S. autumnale (SAP) presented the highest yield and 2,2-diphenyl-1-picrylhydrazyl (DPPH)-scavenging activity; therefore, it was chosen for fucoidan purification. Three fucoidan fractions were observed in SAP, and their antioxidant activity was assessed. Fucoidan fraction 3 of protamex-assisted hydrolysate of S. autumnale (SAPF3) offered significant protection against H2O2-induced oxidative stress, and was structurally and physically similar to commercial fucoidan. Fucose and low-molecular weight fucoidans were highly concentrated in SAPF3. The results of our study show that SAPF3, a low-molecular weight fucoidan from S. autumnale, possesses strong antioxidant properties and may be an effective alternative to antioxidant agents in the functional food industry.

Abstract
Bioactive peptides from food have been widely studied due to their potential applications as functional foods and pharmaceuticals. Sea cucumber, a traditional tonic food, is characterized by high protein and low fat, thereby substrates are being studied to release sea cucumber peptides (SCPs). Although recent studies have shown that SCPs have various bioactive functions, there is no literature reviewing the development status of SCPs. In this review, we summarized the production of SCPs, including their purification and identification, then mainly focused on the comprehensive potential health benefits of SCP in vivo and in vitro, and finally discussed the challenge facing the development of SCPs. We found that SCPs have well-documented health benefits due to their antioxidation, anti-diabetes, ACE inhibitory, immunomodulatory, anti-cancer, anti-fatigue, anti-aging, neuroprotection, micromineral-chelating, etc. However, the structure-activity relationships of SCPs and the functional molecular mechanisms underlying their regulation in vivo need further investigation. Research on the safety of SCP and its potential regulation mechanism will contribute to transferring these findings into commercial applications. Hopefully, this review could promote the development and application of SCPs in further investigation and commercialization.

Abstract
Surimi is refined myofibrillar proteins of fish, which are materials of processed seafood products. However, the health-related outcomes associated with surimi consumption need further investigation. Given the high valued impact of surimi in the functional food industry, the study aims to evaluate its digest with regard to antioxidant potential to understand health benefits raised by surimi consumption. Paralichthys olivaceus surimi digest (POSD) showed a significant DPPH and alkyl radical scavenging activity and protective effects against 2,20-azobis (2-methylpropionamidine) dihydrochloride (AAPH)-induced oxidative stressed Vero cells with a significant increasing cell viability and decreasing apoptosis. It also dramatically suppressed the production of reactive oxygen species and lipid peroxidation as well as prevented cell death and down-regulated pro-apoptotic genes at the mRNA levels in AAPH-stimulated zebrafish. This study reports the protective effects against oxidative stressed cells and zebrafish by a strong antioxidant activity of POSD. Therefore, surimi consumption could be a potential benefit in the prevention of oxidative stress-related diseases.

Abstract
BACKGROUND The well-recognized but not fully explored antioxidant activity of marine-biota-derived, biologically active substances has led to interest in their study as substitutes of antibiotics, antiaging agents, anticancer and antiviral drugs, and others. The aim of this review is to present the current state of the art of marine-biota-derived antioxidants to give some ideas for potential industrial applications. METHODS This review is an update for the last 5 years on the marine sources of natural antioxidants, different classes antioxidant compounds, and current derivation biotechnologies. RESULTS New marine sources of antioxidants, including byproducts and wastes, are presented, along with new antioxidant substances and derivation approaches. CONCLUSIONS The interest in high-value antioxidants from marine biota continues. Natural substances combining antioxidant and antimicrobial action are of particular interest because of the increasing microbial resistance to antibiotic treatments. New antioxidant substances are discovered, along with those extracted from marine biota collected in other locations. Byproducts and wastes provide a valuable source of antioxidant substances. The application of optimized non-conventional derivation approaches is expected to allow the intensification of the production and improvement in the quality of the derived substances. The ability to obtain safe, high-value products is of key importance for potential industrialization.
