Abstract
The aim of the present study was to investigate the effect of supplementing rabbit semen extender with zeolite loaded with different charges (Z+ or Z-, Z±) on sperm cryopreservation. Semen was collected from six healthy, fertile New Zealand rabbit bucks using an artificial vagina. The collected ejaculates were pooled and diluted with a tris-yolk fructose (TYF) extender supplemented with Z± (+16, +12, +8, -16, -12, and -8) at a concentration of 1% for a final sperm concentration of 25 × 106 sperm cells/mL. The diluted semen samples were then cryopreserved in 0.25 mL straws and stored in liquid nitrogen for 1 month. To evaluate sperm quality, we examined sperm progressive motility, vitality, morphological abnormalities, and plasma membrane integrity. In addition, apoptotic rates were determined using flow cytometry and by examining sperm ultrastructure under a transmission electron microscope (TEM). Moreover, total antioxidant capacity and markers of lipid peroxidation were measured in the extender after thawing. Addition of Z± had a positive effect on progressive motility, vitality, and membrane integrity after an equilibration period and post-thawing as compared with the controls (P < 0.05). Z± supplementation, particularly with a strong negative charge, also decreased the percentages of apoptotic and necrotic sperm cells compared to controls (P < 0.05), as shown both by flow cytometry and TEM. This was not associated with any marked effects on the oxidative biomarkers in the extender. In conclusion, addition of Z± to semen extender improved post-thawing sperm quality by improving sperm characteristics, decreasing apoptosis, and minimizing sperm damage during cryopreservation.

Abstract
The objective of this study was to synthesize zeolites through fusion of lignite fly ash and NaOH or KOH pellets at 600 °C and assess their removal efficiency in terms of decontamination of solutions containing Cu(II) ions. The removal efficiency of the produced zeolites was tested in batch kinetic experiments using different zeolites and Cu(II) ion concentrations. Experimental data revealed that zeolites synthesized with the use of NaOH exhibited higher removal efficiency compared with those synthesized with the use of KOH. Kinetic data showed that the pseudo-second-order equations described well the removal process. Copper removal was mainly accomplished through the concerted action of chemisorption and intraparticle diffusion. Analytical techniques involving XRF, XRD, FTIR, SEM/EDS and XPS were used for the characterization and morphology analysis of the produced zeolites. SEM/EDS confirmed the presence of copper on the zeolite surface. XPS spectra of Cu2p at 934.3 eV proved the presence of Cu(II) oxidation state, confirming the possible formation of CuO and/or Cu-Cl.

Abstract
Abstract Three types of oral administrated micronized zeolites [ZSM-5, zeolite A and Faujasite NaX (ZSM-5, ZA and ZX, respectively)] were prepared as anticancer 5-fluorouracil (5-Fu) delivery systems for colon cancer treatment. They were prepared by economically widespread and cheap natural resource, kaolin, at low temperatures, using microwave advanced tool. The obtained powders were characterized by XRD, SEM/EDX and BET; meanwhile, their degradation was investigated in two gastric fluids; FaSSGF (pH 1.6) and FeSSGF (pH 5), through concentration measurement of their solution disintegrated elemental constituents of Na+, Al3+ and Si4+ ions. Also, the processes of drug release and mechanism in both solutions were investigated. Moreover, the inhibition action of 5-Fu-free and 5-Fu-conjugated zeolites on colon cancer cells (CaCo-2) was estimated. The results showed that, the prepared zeolites possessed high surface areas of 526, 250, and 578 m2/g for ZSM-5, ZA and ZX, respectively. Although, zeolite structures seemed significantly stable, their frameworks seemed more likely reactive with time. The ions and drug release for zeolites occurred in successively two stages and found to be pH dependent, where the drug and zeolite ions were significantly of higher values in the more acidic media of the gastric solution (pH 1.6) than those of the mild acidic one (pH 5). The obtained activity indicated no cytotoxic affinity for all the prepared zeolite types. Accordingly, the synthesized zeolite frameworks are proposed to be of strong potential drug delivery vehicle for the treatment of gastrointestinal cancer. Graphical abstract ![]()
