Abstract
BACKGROUND Meeting the 24-hour movement behavior (24-HMB) guideline helps enhance quality of life (QOL) of adolescents. This study aimed to assess the associations between the 24-HMB (physical activity, screen time, sleep) and QOL among adolescents with idiopathic scoliosis. METHODS A cross-sectional study was conducted between September 2021 and September 2023. 24-HMB, QOL and demographic variables were collected through a self-reported questionnaire. Linear regression models and stratified analyses were used to explore statistical associations between the 24-HMB and QOL. RESULTS A total of 1073 participants aged 10-18 years with a spinal Cobb angle between 10° and 40° were included. Overall, 20 participants (1.9%) met all three behavioral guidelines, and 272 participants (25.3%) met none. Compared to those who did not meet any of the guidelines, adolescents meeting both screen time and sleep duration (β = 4.10, 95% CI: 2.02-6.18, P < 0.001) and all 3 guidelines (β = 4.39, 95% CI: 0.27-8.51, P = 0.037) had higher QOL scores. Stratified analyses showed that the above associations were more pronounced in adolescents without back pain or with good self-image. CONCLUSIONS These findings highlight the importance of adopting and maintaining healthy behavioral habits in order to improve QOL among adolescents with idiopathic scoliosis, especially in those without back pain or with good self-image.

Abstract
PURPOSE The role of adherence to the recommendations for 24-hour movement behaviors (24-HMB), including physical activity (PA), screen time (ST), and sleep duration (SLP), in relation to emotional and behavioral problems in Chinese adolescents remains uncertain. This study aimed to investigate these associations and explore potential sex differences. METHODS This school-based cross-sectional study included 15,071 Chinese adolescents with a mean age of 14.53 (SD: 1.65) years. Data on emotional and behavioral problems and 24-HMB (including PA, ST, and SLP) were collected. Analysis was performed using general linear mixed models, with additional sex-stratified analyses conducted. RESULTS The number of 24-HMB recommendations met was negatively associated with total difficulties (β estimate=-0.96, 95% CI: -1.07 to -0.85) and positively related to prosocial behavior (β estimate = 0.41, 95% CI: 0.37 to 0.46) among adolescents. Compared with none of the recommendations met, meeting all recommendations (total difficulties: β estimate=-2.98, 95% CI: -3.41 to -2.55; prosocial behaviors: β estimate = 1.05, 95%CI: 0.87 to 1.24) demonstrated the strongest association with both difficulties and prosocial behaviors, followed by meeting recommendations for PA + ST (total difficulties: β estimate=-2.15, 95% CI: -2.41 to -1.90; prosocial behaviors: β estimate = 0.98, 95% CI: 0.87 to 1.09). These associations were consistently significant in both boys and girls. CONCLUSION Adherence to more 24-HMB recommendations, particularly meeting all recommendations or combined PA + ST recommendations, could improve emotional and behavioral well-being among adolescent girls and boys. The significance of balanced movement behaviors for promoting adolescent mental health merits increased attention.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Social restrictions associated with the COVID-19 pandemic have altered children's movement behaviours and impacted their mental health. However, the influence of social restrictions on subjective health complaints remains inadequately understood. This study compared adherence to 24-hour movement behaviour guidelines and the prevalence of subjective health complaints during school closure and one year after reopening. We also examined how combinations of adherence to movement behaviour recommendations relate to subjective health complaints. METHODS A repeated cross-sectional survey was conducted at two points. The first survey in May 2020 included 1535 (766 boys and 769 girls) participants during school closures, while the second survey from May to July 2021 involved 1125 (583 boys and 542 girls) participants one year after school reopening. The questionnaire covered socio-demographics, physical activity, screen time, sleep, and subjective health complaints. Differences between periods were analysed using chi-square tests. Logistic regression models assessed the association between adherence to guidelines and subjective health complaints. RESULTS During school closure, children were more likely to meet 'only sleep' recommendations and have irritability and lethargy symptoms. Irrespective of sex, those adhering to two or all three recommendations (excluding physical activity and screen time) had a lower risk of symptoms related to physical and mental pain, fatigue, irritability, and lethargy as compared to those who met none of the recommendations. CONCLUSIONS Children should meet at least one physical activity or screen time recommendation in addition to sleep recommendations for subjective health. Strategies considering the priority of each movement behaviour are crucial, even during abnormal situations, such as pandemic-related social restrictions. This study offers insightful findings concerning children's mental health issues during unprecedented and massive disasters or crises.

Abstract
Healthy movement behaviours are associated with various physical and mental wellbeing; however, little is known about such associations in low- and middle-income countries. The aim of this study was to examine adherence to 24-hour (h) movement guidelines and their relationship with depressive symptoms in adolescents. Data were from 312 Bangladeshi adolescents aged 13-17 years (42% female). Meeting the guidelines was defined as: energy expenditure for physical activity (PA) ≥ 1 680 Metabolic Equivalent of Task (MET)-min/week, ≤ 2 h/day of recreational screen time (ST), and 8-10 h/night of sleep. Depressive symptoms were assessed using the 10-item Center for Epidemiological Studies Depression Scale (CESD-10) with a score of 10 or more indicating high depressive symptoms. Percentage of adolescents meeting the three recommendations was 2.2%, with 17.6% meeting two, and 31.2% meeting one recommendation. Generalized estimating equations showed that odds of having high depressive symptoms was a third (odds ratio [OR] = 0.35, 95% confidence interval [CI], 0.19-0.57) for meeting the PA guidelines, and about a half (OR = 0.47, 95%CI, 0.18-0.87) for meeting the sleep guidelines. Odds of depressive symptoms reduced significantly for meeting PA and sleep (OR = 0.20, 95%CI, 0.09-0.59), or PA and ST (OR = 0.24, 95%CI, 0.08-0.55) guidelines. About half of the adolescents did not meet any recommendations, which underscores the need for public health campaigns to promote adherence to the movement guidelines in this pediatric population. Further longitudinal research with larger sample size is recommended to explore the inter-relationships of these behaviours and their impact on health and wellbeing outcomes of adolescents in Bangladesh.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Previous studies have identified obesity, sleep patterns, screen time, and physical activity as independent risk factors for the visual health of adolescents. However, our understanding of how these factors interact and contribute to visual impairment remains limited. This study aimed to investigate the relationship between adherence to the 24-h movement guidelines (24-HMG) and visual impairment in adolescents with and without obesity. METHODS We analyzed data from the 2014-2015 China Education Panel Survey. Participants provided self-reported information on their screen time, sleep duration, and physical activity levels. The data on weight, height, and visual acuity were obtained from school health examination reports. Logistic regression analysis was conducted to assess the association between 24-h movement behaviors and visual impairment, reported as odds ratios (ORs) with a 95 % confidence interval (CI). RESULTS After controlling for covariates such as sex and age, it was found that adolescents with obesity who adhered to the sleep guidelines had a lower risk of visual impairment compared with adolescents without obesity who did not adhere to the 24-HMG (OR = 0.84, 95 % CI: 0.75-0.94, P = 0.003). Additionally, adolescents who adhered to both the physical activity and sleep guidelines had an even lower risk of visual impairment (OR = 0.58, 95 % CI: 0.42-0.79, P = 0.001). CONCLUSIONS Adhering to the Sleep and physical activity + Sleep recommendations in the 24-HMG could significantly reduce the risk of visual impairment in adolescents without obesity. No significant relationship was observed between adherence to 24-HMG and the risk of visual impairment in adolescents with obesity.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Longitudinal evidence is lacking on the interplay between lifestyle behaviors and depressive symptoms, especially in the context of the COVID-19 pandemic. This study investigated the changes in physical activity and recreational screen time during the pandemic, along with their reciprocal associations with depressive symptoms among children and adolescents. METHODS The public health emergency due to the pandemic started in January 2023 and lasted for two months in Shanghai, China. A three-wave longitudinal study was conducted among 1,666 children and adolescents (6-18 years) in January, March, and July 2023. Moderate-to-vigorous intensity physical activity (MVPA), recreational screen time, and depressive symptoms were measured using self-reported questionnaires. Random-intercept cross-lagged panel models were constructed to examine the bidirectional associations between physical activity and recreational screen time with depressive symptoms. RESULTS Children and adolescents experienced a significant decrease in MVPA and a substantial increase in recreational screen time during the pandemic, which failed to return to pre-pandemic levels post-pandemic. Pre-pandemic MVPA was negatively associated with subsequent depressive symptoms (β = -0.147). Conversely, pre-pandemic depressive symptoms were positively associated with subsequent recreational screen time (β = 0.085), which in turn predicted heightened post-pandemic depressive symptoms (β = 0.076). When stratified by age, significant associations were found in adolescents but not children. CONCLUSIONS Sustained unhealthy changes in physical activity and recreational screen time were observed during the COVID-19 pandemic among children and adolescents. This study elucidates a potential reciprocal relationship between lifestyle behaviors and mental well-being. Effective interventions are emphasized to counter the negative impacts of insufficient physical activity and excessive screen use on the mental health of children and adolescents.

Abstract
OBJECTIVES To examine the association between meeting the Canadian 24-Hour Movement Guidelines and physical-mental comorbidity among children and adolescents in a cross-sectional study. METHODS A total of 21,061 students aged 11-17 years from Zhejiang Province, China was recruited in the study. We examined the coexistence of five specific physical illnesses - hypertension, high myopia, dental caries, scoliosis, and obesity - with mental illness, specifically depressive symptoms. Generalized linear mixed models were performed to assess the association between overall and specific combinations of movement guidelines and physical-mental comorbidity, presented by odds ratio (OR) and 95% confidence interval (CI). Population attributable fraction (PAF) was calculated to estimate the preventable proportion of comorbid cases via meeting all three movement recommendations. RESULTS Of the included participants, 19.3% had physical-mental comorbidity. There were 3.8% and 17.0% meeting all three and none of the recommendations, respectively. Meeting at least one recommendation, except for moderate-to-vigorous physical activity recommendation only, was associated with a lower risk of physical-mental comorbidity, with ORs (95% CIs) ranging from 0.72 (0.66-0.79) to 0.40 (0.31-0.51). Meeting more recommendations was associated with decreased comorbid risks, and the association was stronger in 4th-6th graders. The association between specific combinations of recommendations and comorbid risks showed differences by gender and grade. Of the comorbid cases, 42.1% were attributed to not adhering to all three recommendations, and the PAFs varied from 27.4% to 55.7% across different genders and grades. CONCLUSION Adherence to the 24-h movement guidelines was associated with lower risks of physical-mental comorbidity among children and adolescents.
