Copper Tridentate Schiff Base Complex Supported on SBA-15 as Efficient Nanocatalyst for Three-Component Reactions under Solventless Conditions

A facile hydrothermal synthesis of high-efficient NiO nanocatalyst for preparation of 3,4-dihydropyrimidin-2(1H)-ones

The present work introduces a one-step and facile hydrothermal procedure as a green process for the first time to synthesize nickel(II) oxide (NiO) nanoparticles. The as-prepared nanomaterials were used as high efficient, low toxic and cost catalyst for the synthesis of some organic compounds. Ni(NO₃)₂ and some natural extract were used as a surfactant for the first time to synthesis NiO nanomaterials. A high synthesis yield (91%) was obtained for S₂. Rietveld analysis affirmed the cubic crystal system of the obtained NiO nanocatalyst. The morphology studies were carried out with the FESEM method and the images revealed a change from non-homogenous to homogenous spherical particles when the Barberryas was used instead of orange blossom surfactant. Besides, the images revealed that the particle size distribution was in the range of 20 to 60 nm. The synthesized catalysts were used for the first time in Biginelli multicomponent reactions (MCRs) for the preparation of 3,4-dihydropyrimidin-2(1H)-ones (DHPMs) under the present facile reaction conditions. High yield (97%) of the final product was achieved at the optimum condensation reaction conditions (Catalyst: 60 mg; temperature: 90 °C and time: 90 min) when ethyl acetoacetate/methyl acetoacetate (1 mmol), benzaldehyde (1 mmol) and urea (1.2 mmol) were used. A kinetic study affirmed pseudo-first-order model for Biginelli reactions followed the pseudo-first-order model.

The Application of Modified SBA-15 as a Chemosensor

The Santa Barbara Amorphous (SBA-15), with a large surface area covered with abundant Si-OH active groups on the walls of its pores, can be modified with various organic compounds to build organic-inorganic hybrid materials, which can be used as a catalyst in organic reactions, drug delivery systems, nano sorbent due to its high capacity for removing heavy metals in waste water and as chemosensors for ions. Tunable and straight channels of SBA-15 facilitate the entrance and diffusion of ions through the channels. This paper presents a review of the past five years of literature covering the application of SBA-15 as an ions chemosensor in the liquid and gaseous media.

Efficient Synthesis of Dihydropyrimidines Using a Highly Ordered Mesoporous Functionalized Pyridinium Organosilica

A Brönsted acidic ionic solid pyridinium-functionalized organosilica network (PMO-Py-IL) was demonstrated to efficiently catalyse one-pot Biginelli condensation reaction. The green synthesis of 3,4-dihydro-2(H)-pyrimidinones (DHPMs) with high yield was carried out via one-pot three component condensation of β- dicarbonyls, aldehydes, and urea in the presence of a catalytic amount of PMO-Py-IL nanomaterial as an efficient nanocatalyst under solvent free conditions. Furthermore, the catalyst showed outstanding stability and could be easily separated and reused for at least ten reaction runs without significant loss of activity and product selectivity. The green protocol features simple set-up, cost-effectiveness, easy work-up, eco-friendly and mild reaction conditions.

Biginelli Reaction Mediated Synthesis of Antimicrobial Pyrimidine Derivatives and Their Therapeutic Properties

Antimicrobial resistance was one of the top priorities for global public health before the start of the 2019 coronavirus pandemic (COVID-19). Moreover, in this changing medical landscape due to COVID-19, finding new organic structures with antimicrobial and antiviral properties is a priority in current research. The Biginelli synthesis that mediates the production of pyrimidine compounds has been intensively studied in recent decades, especially due to the therapeutic properties of the resulting compounds, such as calcium channel blockers, anticancer, antiviral, antimicrobial, anti-inflammatory or antioxidant compounds. In this review we aim to review the Biginelli syntheses reported recently in the literature that mediates the synthesis of antimicrobial compounds, the spectrum of their medicinal properties, and the structure-activity relationship in the studied compounds.

The Effect of SBA-15 Surface Modification on the Process of 18β-Glycyrrhetinic Acid Adsorption: Modeling of Experimental Adsorption Isotherm Data

This study aimed at the adsorption of 18β-glycyrrhetinic acid (18β-GA), a pentacyclic triterpenoid derivative of oleanane type, onto functionalized mesoporous SBA-15 silica and non-porous silica (Aerosil^®) as the reference adsorbent. Although 18β-GA possesses various beneficial pharmacological properties including antitumor, anti-inflammatory, and antioxidant activity, it occurs is small amounts in plant materials. Thus, the efficient methods of this bioactive compound enrichment from vegetable raw materials are currently studied. Siliceous adsorbents were functionalized while using various alkoxysilane derivatives, such as (3-aminopropyl)trimethoxysilane (APTMS), [3-(methylamino)propyl]trimethoxysilane (MAPTMS), (N,N-dimethylaminopropyl)trimethoxysilane (DMAPTMS), and [3-(2-aminothylamino)propyl] trimethoxysilane (AEAPTMS). The effect of silica surface modification with agents differing in the structure and the order of amine groups on the adsorption capacity of the adsorbent and adsorption efficiency were thoroughly examined. The equilibrium adsorption data were analyzed while using the Langmuir, Freundlich, Redlich-Peterson, Temkin, Dubinin-Radushkevich, and Dubinin-Astakhov isotherms. Both linear regression and nonlinear fitting analysis were employed in order to find the best-fitted model. The adsorption isotherms of 18β-GA onto silicas functionalized with APTMS, MAPTMS, and AEAPTMS indicate the Langmuir-type adsorption, whereas sorbents modified with DMAPTMS show the constant distribution of the adsorbate between the adsorbent and the solution regardless of silica type. The Dubinin-Astakhov, Dubinin-Radushkevich, and Redlich-Peterson equations described the best the process of 18β-GA adsorption onto SBA-15 and Aerosil^® silicas that were functionalized with APTMS, MAPTMS, and AEAPTMS, regardless of the method that was used for the estimation of isotherm parameters. Based on nonlinear fitting analysis (Dubinin-Astakhov model), it can be concluded that SBA-15 sorbent that was modified with APTMS, MAPTMS, and AEAPTMS is characterized by twice the adsorption capacity (202.8–237.3 mg/g) as compared to functionalized non-porous silica (118.2–144.2 mg/g).
