Use of Vanadium Complexes Bearing Naphthalene-Bridged Nitrogen-Sulfonate Ligands as Catalysts for Copolymerization of Ethylene and Propylene

A highly chlorinated xylene promoter for ethylene-propylene copolymerisation over a vanadium catalyst

The regularities of ethylene-propylene copolymerisation over a vanadium oxytrichloride (VOCl₃)-ethylaluminium sesquichloride (EASC) catalytic system in the presence of hexachloro-p-xylene (HCPX), tert-butyl chloride, trichlorotoluene, hexachlorocyclopentadiene, and trichloroacetate were studied. The main kinetic regularities of ethylene-propylene copolymerisation when using HCPX were determined and the kinetic parameters of the process were obtained. It was shown that hexachloro-p-xylene is the most efficient promoter of polymerisation that increases activity of the "vanadium" catalyst severalfold and enhances propylene reactivity in its copolymerisation with ethylene. A number of molecular characteristics and physicochemical parameters were determined for the synthesised samples of ethylene-propylene copolymers. The resulting copolymers have a higher molecular weight and a broad molecular weight distribution and are richer in propylene monomers compared to the copolymers synthesised in the catalytic system without HCPX. Modification of the "vanadium" catalyst yields the copolymer with a more homogeneous structure. Assumptions were made about the mechanism of action of the promoter under study in the VOCl₃-EASC catalytic system.

Propylene homopolymerization and copolymerization with ethylene by acenaphthene-based α-diimine nickel complexes to access EPR-like elastomers

Preparation of Butadiene-Isoprene Copolymer with High Vinyl Contents by Al(OPhCH₃)(i-Bu)₂/MoO₂Cl₂∙TNPP

In this study, a butadiene-isoprene coordination polymerization was initiated by a binary molybdenum (Mo)-based catalytic system consisting of modified MoO₂Cl₂ as the primary catalyst, triethyl aluminum substituted by m-cresol as the co-catalyst and tris(nonyl phenyl) phosphate (TNPP) as the ligand. The effects of the amount of catalyst and type of co-catalyst were investigated in detail. Experimental results indicated that when the butadiene-isoprene coordination polymerization was initiated by the binary Mo-based catalytic system, the monomer conversion could reach 90%. The resulting butadiene units were primarily based on 1,2-structures, and the reactivity ratios of butadiene and isoprene were 1.13 and 0.31, respectively. The reaction in the catalytic system was attributed to the non-ideal and non-constant ratio copolymerization. When the addition of isoprene monomers was relatively low, the isoprene units on the butadiene-isoprene copolymers were primarily based on the 1,2- and 3,4-structures. Moreover, the orientation of active centers to 1,2- and 3,4-structures gradually decreased with an increase in the addition of isoprene monomers, which resulted in the generation of high vinyl butadiene-isoprene copolymers.

Copolymerization of ethylene with propylene and higher α-olefins catalyzed by (imido)vanadium(iv) dichloride complexes

We have synthesized and characterized a series of (imido)V(iv) complexes bearing different imido groups and coligands, to be used, in combination with an aluminum alkyl, as catalysts for the (co)polymerization of ethylene with propylene.
