Abstract
Background Patients with subclinical hypothyroidism (SCH) have a high serum concentration of thyroid-stimulating hormone (TSH), whereas their serum-free thyroxine concentrations are normal. Lipid metabolism is regulated in large part by thyroid hormones. It could be connected to a changed lipid profile. This study aimed to evaluate the relationship between SCH and alterations in the lipid profile. Methodology Data from 99 patients with SCH and 109 euthyroid cases were collected from King Abdulaziz Medical City, Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, from 2016 to 2022. Patients older than 18 years were included in the study. The groups were matched in terms of gender, age, and body mass index. SCH was defined as a TSH value of 4.5 to 10 mIU/L, and normal T4 as 5 to 18 μg/dL. Control cases had a normal TSH ranging from 0.45 to 4.5 mIU/L. The total serum cholesterol, high-density lipoprotein (HDL) cholesterol, low-density lipoprotein (LDL) cholesterol, and triglyceride (TG) levels in both groups were examined and the results were recorded. Results In comparison to the control group, SCH patients had greater median glycated hemoglobin (HbA1C) (p = 0.001) and lower median vitamin D levels (p = 0.004) before therapy. Before therapy, SCH patients also showed considerably lower HDL levels and significantly higher LDL and TG levels (p < 0.001). Conclusions There is a substantial correlation between SCH and reduced HDL and vitamin D levels. It was linked to increased TG, LDL, and HbA1c levels. Only vitamin D and LDL were pathologically high. Treatment with levothyroxine raised total and LDL cholesterol levels. Future research should look into the affordability of treating SCH.

Abstract
Background Vitamins are involved in various human physiological and biochemical mechanisms due to their antioxidant properties and their ability to enhance the immune response. Deficiency of some serum vitamins has been reported to be associated with an increased risk of developing cancer, including thyroid cancer. However, medical literature dealing with cholecalciferol supplementation was not able to show the potential of this intervention in cancer prevention. The aim of this paper is to highlight the association between lower serum vitamins levels and papillary thyroid cancer occurrence. Methods This case-control study was conducted between September 2018 and October 2019. Cases were defined as patients with histologically diagnosed papillary thyroid cancer who underwent thyroidectomy were retrospectively recruited and serum levels of various vitamins were assessed by examining their relationships with clinical, pathological and molecular data (n=51). Controls matched on sex and thyroid surgery were randomly selected from the same population (n=49). Results In this study, serum concentrations of vitamins A and E in neoplastic patients were significantly lower than in controls (1.40 vs. 1.78, P<0.003 and 23.9 vs. 29.1, P<0.003, respectively). Serum concentrations of vitamin D and methylmalonic acid were borderline significantly low (15.6 vs. 17.9, P=0.06 and 100.3 vs. 110.4, P=0.055, respectively), while homocysteine was statistically similar in the two groups. Furthermore, serum vitamin levels were compared with the pathological characteristics of cancer patients, and vitamin D concentrations were significantly lower in BRAF-positive than in BRAF-negative neoplastic patients (8.2 vs. 16.0, P=0.021). On the other hand, no significant differences were observed in the correlation between serum levels of vitamins and other pathological characteristics, in particular with regard to lymph node metastases. Conclusions In conclusion, albeit with the analysis of a limited sample, this study highlighted the phenomenon that deficiencies in vitamins A and E can be associated with a higher frequency of occurrence of papillary thyroid cancer.

Abstract
Vitamin D is necessary for the normal functioning of many organs, including the thyroid gland. It is, therefore, not surprising that vitamin D deficiency is considered a risk factor for the development of many thyroid disorders, including autoimmune thyroid diseases and thyroid cancer. However, the interaction between vitamin D and thyroid function is still not fully understood. This review discusses studies involving human subjects that (1) compared vitamin D status (primarily determined by serum calcidiol (25-hydroxyvitamin D [25(OH)D]) levels) with thyroid function assessed by thyroid stimulating hormone (TSH), thyroid hormones, and anti-thyroid antibody levels; and (2) evaluated the effect of vitamin D supplementation on thyroid function. Due to the many inconsistencies in the results between the studies, it is still difficult to draw a definite conclusion on how vitamin D status affects thyroid function. Studies in healthy participants observed either a negative correlation or no association between TSH and 25(OH)D levels, while the results for thyroid hormones showed high variability. Many studies have observed a negative association between anti-thyroid antibodies and 25(OH)D levels, but equally many studies have failed to observe such an association. Regarding the studies that examined the effect of vitamin D supplementation on thyroid function, almost all observed a decrease in anti-thyroid antibody levels after vitamin D supplementation. Factors that could contribute to the high variability between the studies are the use of different assays for the measurement of serum 25(OH)D levels and the confounding effects of sex, age, body-mass index, dietary habits, smoking, and the time of year when the samples were collected. In conclusion, additional studies with larger numbers of participants are needed to fully understand the effect of vitamin D on thyroid function.

Abstract
PURPOSE Many smaller studies have previously shown a significant association between thyroid autoantibody induced hypothyroidism and lower serum vitamin D levels. However, these finding have not been confirmed by large-scale studies. In this study, we evaluated the relationship between hypothyroidism and vitamin D levels using a large population-based data. METHODS For this study, we used National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey (NHANES) during the years 2007-2012. We categorized participants into three clinically relevant categories based on vitamin D levels: optimal, intermediate and deficient. Participants were also split into hypothyroid and hyperthyroid. Weighted multivariable logistic regression analyses were used to calculate the odds of being hypothyroid based on vitamin D status. RESULTS A total of 7943 participants were included in this study, of which 614 (7.7%) were having hypothyroidism. Nearly 25.6% of hypothyroid patients had vitamin D deficiency, compared to 20.6% among normal controls. Adjusted logistic regression analyses showed that the odds of developing hypothyroidism were significantly higher among patients with intermediate (adjusted odds ratio [aOR], 1.7, 95% CI: 1.5-1.8) and deficient levels of vitamin D (aOR, 1.6, 95% CI: 1.4-1.9). CONCLUSION Low vitamin D levels are associated with autoimmune hypothyroidism. Healthcare initiatives such as mass vitamin D deficiency screening among at-risk population could significantly decrease the risk for hypothyroidism in the long-term.

Abstract
Background and Objective:
Studies on the relationship of thyroid stimulating hormone
(TSH) within the reference range and thyroid autoimmunity with osteoporosis have produced conflicting
results. The objective of this study was to investigate the association of thyroid function and thyroid
autoimmune bodies (TPOAb and TgAb) with osteoporosis in euthyroid postmenopausal women.
Methods:
A total of 174 subjects were retrospectively included. Serum TSH, total T3, total T4,
TPOAb, TgAb, vitamin D, calcium and bone mineral density were measured. Correlation and logistic
multivariate regression analysis were performed.
Results:
Levels of TSH were lower in osteoporosis group (TSH: 2.03±1.08 vs 2.40±1.24 mIU/L,
p=0.040) while TT3 and TT4 levels were similar between the two groups. The positive percentage of
anti-TPO antibodies was higher in osteoporosis group (17.9% vs 6.7%, χ2= 5.13, p=0.024) while no
significant difference was observed for anti-Tg antibodies (17.9% vs 8.9%, χ2=3.05, p=0.081). The
Spearman correlation analysis showed that TSH levels were significantly correlated with lumbar spine
BMD (r= 0.161, P=0.035) and femoral neck BMD (r = 0.152, P= 0.045). Logistical regression analysis
revealed that low-normal TSH levels and positive TPOAb was an independent risk factor for osteoporosis
(OR: 0.698, 95% CI: 0.505-0.965, p=0.030; OR: 3.961, 95% CI: 1.176-13.345, p=0.026 respectively).
Conclusion:
The results showed that low-normal TSH levels and anti-TPO antibodies were independently
associated with the presence of osteoporosis in postmenopausal women.

Abstract
Polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) and Hashimoto’s thyroiditis (HT) are endocrine disorders that commonly occur among young women. A higher prevalence of HT in women with PCOS, relative to healthy individuals, is observed consistently. Combined occurrence of both diseases is associated with a higher risk of severe metabolic and reproductive complications. Genetic factors strongly impact the pathogenesis of both PCOS and HT and several susceptibility loci associated with a higher risk of both disorders have been identified. Furthermore, some candidate gene polymorphisms are thought to be functionally relevant; however, few genetic variants are proposed to be causally associated with the incidence of both disorders together.

Abstract
COVID-19 pandemic has affected more than 200 countries and 1.3 million individuals have deceased within eleven months. Intense research on COVID-19 occurrence and prevalence enable us to understand that comorbidities play a crucial role in spread and severity of SARS-CoV-2 infection. Chronic kidney disease, diabetes, respiratory diseases and hypertension are among the various morbidities that are prevalent in symptomatic COVID-19 patients. However, the effect of altered thyroid-driven disorders cannot be ignored. Since thyroid hormone critically coordinate and regulate the major metabolism and biochemical pathways, this review is on the potential role of prevailing thyroid disorders in SARS-CoV-2 infection. Direct link of thyroid hormone with several disorders such as diabetes, vitamin D deficiency, obesity, kidney and liver disorders etc. suggests that the prevailing thyroid conditions may affect SARS-CoV-2 infection. Further, we discuss the oxidative stress-induced aging is associated with the degree of SARS-CoV-2 infection. Importantly, ACE2 protein which facilitates the host-cell entry of SARS-CoV-2 using the spike protein, are highly expressed in individuals with abnormal level of thyroid hormone. Altogether, we report that the malfunction of thyroid hormone synthesis may aggravate SARS-CoV-2 infection and thus monitoring the thyroid hormone may help in understanding the pathogenesis of COVID-19.

Abstract
Vitamin D is a steroid hormone traditionally connected to phosphocalcium metabolism. The discovery of pleiotropic expression of its receptor and of the enzymes involved in its metabolism has led to the exploration of the other roles of this vitamin. The influence of vitamin D on autoimmune disease-namely, on autoimmune thyroid disease-has been widely studied. Most of the existing data support a relationship between vitamin D deficiency and a greater tendency for development and/or higher titers of antibodies linked to Hashimoto's thyroiditis, Graves' disease, and/or postpartum thyroiditis. However, there have also been some reports contradicting such relationships, thus making it difficult to establish a unanimous conclusion. Even if the existence of an association between vitamin D and autoimmune thyroid disease is assumed, it is still unclear whether it reflects a pathological mechanism, a causal relationship, or a consequence of the autoimmune process. The relationship between vitamin D's polymorphisms and this group of diseases has also been the subject of study, often with divergent results. This text presents a review of the recent literature on the relationship between vitamin D and autoimmune thyroid disease, providing an analysis of the likely involved mechanisms. Our thesis is that, due to its immunoregulatory role, vitamin D plays a minor role in conjunction with myriad other factors. In some cases, a vicious cycle is generated, thus contributing to the deficiency and aggravating the autoimmune process.

Abstract
Vitamin D is a secosteroid with a pleiotropic role in multiple physiological processes. Besides the well-known activity on bone homeostasis, recent studies suggested a peculiar role of vitamin D in different non-skeletal pathways, including a key role in the modulation of immune responses. Recent evidences demonstrated that vitamin D acts on innate and adaptative immunity and seems to exert an immunomodulating action on autoimmune diseases and cancers. Several studies demonstrated a relationship between vitamin D deficiency, autoimmune thyroid disorders, and thyroid cancer. This review aims to summarize the evidences on the immunomodulatory effect of vitamin D on thyroid diseases.

Abstract
Vitamin D is a pleiotropic secosteroid yielding multiple actions in human physiology. Besides the canonical regulatory activity on bone metabolism, several non-classical actions have been described and the ability of vitamin D to partake in the regulation of the immune system is particularly interesting, though far stronger and convincing evidence has been collected in in vitro as compared to in vivo studies. Whether vitamin D is able to regulate at physiological concentrations the human immune system remains unproven to date. Consequently, it is not established if vitamin D status is a factor involved in the pathogenesis of immune-mediated diseases and if cholecalciferol supplementation acts as an adjuvant for autoimmune diseases. The development of autoimmunity is a heterogeneous process, which may involve different organs and systems with a wide range of clinical implications. In the present paper, we reviewed the current evidences regarding vitamin D role in the pathogenesis and management of different autoimmune diseases.
