A novel case of paravertebral glomangiomyomatosis

Glomangiomyomatosis is an extremely rare variant of glomus tumours. We describe the first known case of paravertebral glomangiomyomatosis in the literature to cause spinal cord compression. A 45-year old female patient presented with sudden onset of left leg pain and progressive weakness in left-sided hip flexion. An MRI spine revealed a large, lobulated, heterogeneous mass cantered on the left L2/3 foramen, mimicking a dumbbell nerve sheath tumour. The mass was invading the psoas muscle and displayed evidence of recent haemorrhage. The patient underwent debulking of the lesion via a left retroperitoneal approach. Surgery was uneventful, with clinical improvement and resolution of leg pain post-operatively. Histopathology of the tumour revealed delineated glomus-like cells and foci of spindled shaped cells resembling myoid differentiation. Immuno-histochemical features of the tumour confirmed the diagnosis of glomangiomyomatosis. The patient continued under close follow up, representing 18 months later with clinical and radiological progression of the disease with similar symptoms of leg pain but no weakness. Follow up MRI revealed progression of the intraspinal and paraspinal components of the tumour with thecal compression. A posterior approach was utilized in order to decompress the intraspinal component, which again was uneventful, and improved the patient's symptoms. This is the first known case of paravertebral glomangiomyomatosis in the literature and this rare entity should be considered in the differential diagnosis of nerve sheath tumours due to risk of progression and recurrence.

Glomangiomyoma of the neck in a child in Nepal: a rare case report and literature review

Background

Glomangiomyoma is a rare histological variant of glomus tumour. Clinically, it mimicks as a haemangioma and is challenging to diagnose. Its occurrence in the neck of a child has not been previously described.

Case presentation

A 3 year old girl presented with the complaints of painless progressive neck swelling in the right side for one and half year. Sonography, computed tomography (CT), magnetic resonance imaging (MRI), CT neck angiography and fine needle aspiration cytology (FNAC) were suggestive of vacular malformation i.e. giant haemangioma or arteriovenous malformation. The mass was removed in toto under general anaesthesia without postoperative complications. The histopathology confirmed it to be glomangiomyoma with haemangiopericytoma like features.

Conclusion

It's an extremely rare variant of glomus tumour and may be the first report of a glomangiomyoma in the neck of a child. Despite a rare entity, it should be borne in mind during differential diagnosis.

Tracheal Glomus Tumor: A Case Report and Review of the Literature

Glomus tumors are rare neoplasms that typically occur within the dermis or subcutis of the subungual space. Primary glomus tumors of the thorax are exceedingly uncommon, thus standard-of-care management is lacking. In this report we describe the management of a patient presenting with a symptomatic glomus tumor of the posterior trachea, and provide a comprehensive review including all documented tracheal glomus tumor reports.

Tracheal Glomangioleiomyoma Treated by Multimodal Interventional Bronchoscopy

Glomus tumors of the trachea are particularly rare, and their management is usually based on sleeve resection with end-to-end anastomosis. Glomangiomyoma represents the rarest histologic subtype and has been observed only once in the trachea. We describe the first case of tracheal glomangiomyoma treated by multimodal interventional bronchoscopy.

Glomus tumor of the trachea: a rare case report

A tracheal glomus tumor is extremely rare. There were approximately 18 reported cases before in China. Here we report a 48-year-old male with glomus tumor of the trachea. The computed tomography (CT) scan of the chest showed a nodulein the basalsegmentof right lower lobe, focal uplift in the left-posterior wall of the trachea, measured 1.5×1.2×1.0 cm. Microscopically, the tumor tissue was rich with vessels, shaped flake-nest, and the tumor consisted of a sheet of uniform cells surrounding the vascular spaces. Immumohistochemical staining were positive for SMA, vimentin, collagen IV, CD34, the Ki-67 proliferation activity was low (<1%), and were negative for Syn, CgA, S-100, AE1/AE3 and EMA. PSA staining showing clear cell borders. With a review of the literature, the clinical, pathological characteristics and treatment modalities of this rare tumor are discussed.

Glomus tumor of the trachea

Glomus tumors of the trachea are rare and benign, but most become symptomatic, so they need intervention. A 21-year-old man was evaluated due to cough and hemoptysis. Computed tomography and bronchoscopy showed a polypoid mass above the carina. The tumor was removed completely by rigid bronchoscopy. The pathologic diagnosis was glomus tumor. After one year, because of recurrence of the tumor at the same site, the patient underwent reoperation, and resection and anastomosis of trachea through a right posterolateral thoracotomy was performed.

A rare large tracheal glomus tumor with postoperative haematemesis

Glomus tumors are uncommon benign tumors which usually arise from the distal portion of the digits. A tracheal glomus tumor with large size is extremely rare. We present a case of a large tracheal glomus tumor that was resected using posterolateral thoracotomy and successful primary reconstruction of the trachea was achieved. Severe haematemesis happened after the patient was discharged. An emergency exploratory thoracotomy was performed but no signs of anastomotic bleeding were observed, while intraoperative gastroscopy revealed plenty of blood and blood clots in the patient's stomach. Medical treatments targeting hemorrhage of upper digestive tract were given and the patient finally recovered.
