Abstract
BACKGROUND: Purple sweet potato (PSP; Ipomoea batatas (L.) lam.) is a perennial plant from the morning glory family Convolvulaceae. This plant contains many functional compounds and a high concentration of anthocyanins and phenols, in contrast to other sweet potato plants of different colors. Both in vitro and in vivo studies have shown that parts of PSP have interesting functions in the setting of cancer.
AIM: This article is a collective review of the potential properties of PSP in cancer, with an emphasis on its effects in breast, bladder, colorectal, liver, gastric, and cervical cancers.METHODS: Major English research databases, including PubMed, Web of Science, Scopus, and Google Scholar, were searched for studies evaluating the activity of PSP against cancer published ended in Mei 2020.
RESULTS: The search yielded 72 articles relevant to this topic. Of note, PSP phytochemicals such anthocyanins and caffeoylquinic acid derivatives act as an antioxidant that scavenges free radicals and regulates the Keap1-Nrf2 signaling pathway, acts as an antimutagenic agent, and has anti-inflammatory activity by inhibiting activation of mitogen-activated protein kinases and the NF-κB pathway as a Chemo-preventive mechanism. Furthermore, PSP can promote apoptosis, cell cycle arrest, inhibit proliferation, cell growth inhibition, and inhibit cancer progression that actions collectively sum as anticancer activity in many cancer cells. The primary target-signaling pathway that is interfered by PSP is the phosphatidylinositol-3-kinase/protein kinase B pathway, which is a very common mutated pathway in cancer cells that regulates many physiologic processes inside the cells.
CONCLUSION: As a promising medicinal plant that may serve as a Chemo-preventive and anticancer agent, further research on PSP is required to determine its clinical uses and potential as a food supplement.

Abstract
Approximately 20-30% of all cervical cancer cases are adenocarcinoma and adenosquamous carcinoma. Around 70% of all of these types of cancer are related to infection of Human Papillomavirus (HPV). This study evaluated the distribution of HPV genotype in cervical adenocarcinoma and adenosquamous carcinoma. A cross-sectional study was conducted at the Department of Anatomic Pathology, Dr. Soetomo General Academic Hospital, Surabaya, Indonesia, from January to December 2015. The sample were 22 formalin-fixed paraffin-embedded (FFPE) of cervical adenocarcinoma tissues and adenosquamous carcinoma tissues. FFPE was used for DNA extraction and followed with HPV genotyping to detect 40 genotypes of HPV, including low risk (LR) and high risk (HR) HPV. The histopathological types of adenocarcinomas were adenocarcinoma NOS and mucinous adenocarcinoma, while the adenosquamous carcinoma types were adenosquamous carcinoma and adenosquamous carcinoma glassy. All of the specimens were infected by HPV. In cervical adenocarcinoma, the infection was by HPV 6, 11, 16, 18, 31, 45, 68B, and 72, and in adenosquamous carcinoma by HPV 6, 16, 18, 45, and 59. HPV 18 was predominant, which was found in 13/22 (59.1%) in adenocarcinoma and 19/22 (86.4%) in adenosquamous carcinoma. Single infection and multiple infections in adenocarcinoma were 13/22 (59.1%) and 9/22 (40.9%), while in adenosquamous carcinoma were 21/22 (95.5%) and 1/22 (4.5%) respectively. The most common HR HPVs found in this study were HPV 18, HPV 45, HPV 16 and LR HPV are HPV 11, HPV 6.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Human papillomavirus (HPV)-45 genotype circulates in high percentage in Bandung area - Indonesia, after HPV-16 and HPV-18. The aim of this study was to analyse variations of major capsid (L1) HPV-45 and its phylogeny. Furthermore in silico protein structure and epitope prediction was explored. METHODS L1 gene of HPV-45 was amplified, sequenced and aligned. Phylogenetic tree had been built and compared with a complete L1 HPV-45 sequence. Structure and epitope prediction of L1 protein were then developed in silico. RESULTS Of 5 L1 HPV-45 sequences collected, we have detected one variant of sub lineage A2 which was considered as a new variant, and two variants of B2. Superimposition of structure of these two variants with reference showed very similar structure. Furthermore, seven amino acid substitutions were found within these L1 variants of which two substitutions might change the polarity of corresponding amino acid I329T and S383G. The S383G occurred in surface loop (HI-Loop) of new L1 HPV-45 variant. CONCLUSION Similar structure of Indonesian variants indicates that amino acids variations do not affect the L1 structure. However, one substitution with altered amino acid polarity found within the area of surface loop suggests a potential impact in antibody recognition and neutralization.

Abstract
Background: Cervical cancer is one of the most prevalent gynecological cancers worldwide and contributes in high mortality of Indonesian women. The efficacy of chemotherapy as a standart therapy for cervical cancer decreases because it frequenly rises adverse effects. Recent studies have found that metformin has a potential anticancer effect mostly through reduction of cyclin expression and activation of Activated Adenosine Monophosphate Kinase (AMPK). This study aimed to investigate the effect of metfomin on expression of cyclin D1 and p53 and apoptosis in HeLa cancer cell line. Methods: HeLa cells were treated with various doses of metformin and doxorubicin as a positive control. Cytotoxic effect of metformin was determined using the MTT assay. Immunocytochemistry was used to assess cyclin D1 and p53 expression and apoptosis levels of treated HeLa cells were analyzed using flowcytometry. Data of cyclin D1 expression was statistically analyzed using the Kruskal-Wallis test followed by the Tamhane test, whilst ANOVA and Tukey post Hoc tests were used to analyze data of p53 and apoptosis level. The significant value was p< 0.05. Results: Metformin was able to inhibit proliferation of HeLa cells with IC50 60 mM. HeLa cells treated with 60 and 120 mM metformin had lower cyclin D1 expression than HeLa cells treated without metformin and reached a significant difference (p= 0.001). Moreover, 30 mM or higher doses of metformin increase significantly p53 expression (p< 0.001). Induction of apoptosis was observed in HeLa cells treated with all doses of metformin and reached statistically difference (p= 0.04 and p < 0.001). Conclusion: Metformin can modulate cyclin D1 and p53 expression in HeLa cancer cell line, leading to inhibition of cell proliferation and induction of apoptosis. Other cyclin family members, CDK inhibitors and AMPK signaling should be further investigated in order to know mechanism of metformin action.

Abstract
Background: Cervical cancer caused by human papilloma virus (HPV), is the second most common cancer for women. This cancer is distributed worldwide, with ~80% of cases are found in the developing countries. In Indonesia, data of HPV genotypes are still limited and do not represent all regions of the country. Thus, here we report genotyping of HPV samples collected from the Dr. Soetomo Hospital Surabaya Indonesia patients, in 2013. Materials and Method: A cross sectional study was performed using 68 paraffin blocks of low-grade squamous intraepithelial lesion (LSIL), high-grade squamous intraepithelial lesion (HSIL), and squamous cell carcinoma (SCC) cervix. Result: This study showed that HPV genotypes found in LSIL samples are HPV 16, 18, 6/33 or 68/72. Furthermore, those in HSIL are HPV 16, 18, 52, 59, 67, 6/18, 6/45, 16/67, 26/61, or 52/67, while in SCC are HPV 16, 18, 45, 52, 56, 16/18 or 16/45. Single-genotype infection, i.e. by HPV 16, 18, 45, 52, 56, 59, or 67, was observed in 86.77% (59/68) of samples, whereas multiple-genotype infections, i.e. by HPV 6/18, 6/33, 6/45, 16/18, 16/45, 16/67, 26/61, 52/67, or 68/72, was found in 13.23% (9/68) of the samples. Conclutions: The mostly HPV genotype identified in this study is HPV 16 (62.68%), then followed by HPV 18 (20.9%), HPV 45 (5.97%), 52 (5.97%), and 67 (4.48%). HPV 16 and 18 have used as vaccine, and HPV 45 has cross reaction with HPV 18, then HPV 52 and 67 should be considered as the second-generation HPV vaccines.

Abstract
HPV infection is known to cause cervical cancer. This study aimed to identify the variant of HPV genotypes of cervical precancerous lesions from low grade squamous intraepithelial lesion (LSIL) and high grade squamous intraepithelial lesion (HSIL). This was an explorative study using formalin fix paraffin embedded (FFPE) from cervical precancerous lesions at Dr. Soetomo Hospital, Surabaya. DNA was extracted from FFPE and hybridized for HPV genotyping using Ampliquality HPV Type Express kit (AB ANALITICA) by reverse line blot techniques. The results showed that there were variants of HPV genotype in LSIL. The variants were HPV16 (8/15), HPV18 (3/15), HPV52 (1/15), HPV6+31 (1/15), HPV6+18 (1/15), and HPV72+68 (1/15), and in HSIL which were HPV16 (4/10), HPV18 (2/10), HPV59 (1/10), HPV6+45 (1/10), HPV61+26 (1/10), and HPV16+31 (1/10). The characteristics of infection in LSIL were single infection of high-risk (hr) HPV and multiple infection of low-risk (lr)+hr HPV, and in HSIL were single infection of HPVhr, multiple infection of HPVhr+hr and HPVlr+hr. In conclusion, HPV prevalence in cervical precancerous lesions is single infection by HPV16 (48%), HPV18 (20%), HPV52 (4%), HPV59 (4%), and multiple infection by HPV6+31, HPV6+18, HPV6+45, HPV16+31, HPV61+26, HPV72+68 is 4%.

Abstract
Epstein-Barr virus-induced gene 3 (EBI3) encodes a secretory glycoprotein, and has previously been identified as upregulated in a series of cancers. However, the clinical significance of EBI3 in cervical cancer and the potential of EBI3 as a therapeutic target for this disease have not been elucidated. In the present study, EBI3 expression was analyzed by immunohistochemistry in 90 clinicopathologically characterized cervical cancer tissue samples. The association between EBI3 expression and survival of patients with cervical cancer was also analyzed. The expression level of EBI3 in cervical cancer tissues was found to be significantly increased compared with the expression levels in the normal squamous epithelium. In addition, EBI3 expression was significantly correlated with the clinical stage and size of tumors (P<0.05). Furthermore, the presence of EBI3 expression was associated with a poor prognosis compared with patients without EBI3 expression. Multivariate analysis revealed that EBI3 expression was an independent predictor of overall survival (hazard ratio, 4.032; 95% confidence interval, 1.538-7.436; P=0.035). To the best of our knowledge, the present results indicate for the first time that EBI3 expression is significantly associated with the progression and poor prognosis of cervical cancer. EBI3 may be a potential prognostic marker and a therapeutic target in cervical cancer.
