Abstract
We previously showed that hydrogen sulfide (H2S) has a neuroprotective effect in the context of hypoxic ischemic brain injury in neonatal mice. However, the precise mechanism underlying the role of H2S in this situation remains unclear. In this study, we used a neonatal mouse model of hypoxic ischemic brain injury and a lipopolysaccharide-stimulated BV2 cell model and found that treatment with L-cysteine, a H2S precursor, attenuated the cerebral infarction and cerebral atrophy induced by hypoxia and ischemia and increased the expression of miR-9-5p and cystathionine β synthase (a major H2S synthetase in the brain) in the prefrontal cortex. We also found that an miR-9-5p inhibitor blocked the expression of cystathionine β synthase in the prefrontal cortex in mice with brain injury caused by hypoxia and ischemia. Furthermore, miR-9-5p overexpression increased cystathionine-β-synthase and H2S expression in the injured prefrontal cortex of mice with hypoxic ischemic brain injury. L-cysteine decreased the expression of CXCL11, an miR-9-5p target gene, in the prefrontal cortex of the mouse model and in lipopolysaccharide-stimulated BV-2 cells and increased the levels of proinflammatory cytokines BNIP3, FSTL1, SOCS2 and SOCS5, while treatment with an miR-9-5p inhibitor reversed these changes. These findings suggest that H2S can reduce neuroinflammation in a neonatal mouse model of hypoxic ischemic brain injury through regulating the miR-9-5p/CXCL11 axis and restoring β-synthase expression, thereby playing a role in reducing neuroinflammation in hypoxic ischemic brain injury.

Abstract
Grassland is essential for maintaining the stability and functionality of terrestrial ecosystems. Although previous research has explored how grassland responds to drought, the drought sensitivity of grassland (DSG) across climate zones and aridity gradients remains uncertain. In this study, we conducted a comprehensive investigation spanning 1982 to 2015 in Northwest China. To assess the time-cumulative effect (TCE) and the time-lag effect (TLE) of drought on grassland, we employed Spearman rank correlation analysis, utilizing long-term datasets of the normalized difference vegetation index (NDVI) and the standardized precipitation evapotranspiration index (SPEI). This analysis allowed us to quantify the DSG in the region and further examine its variations across climate zones and aridity gradient. Our results revealed that 81.2 % and 99.7 % of the grassland in Northwest China was influenced by the TCE and TLE of drought, respectively, with 38.2 % and 60.9 % of these effects being statistically significant (p < 0.05). The mean accumulated and lagged timescales of drought on grassland were 7.89 and 9.41 months, respectively. Remarkably, the highest DSG was observed in the semi-arid zone (0.58), followed by the arid (0.54), sub-humid (0.51), and humid (0.44) zones. Furthermore, we identified significant nonlinear variation patterns of DSG along the aridity gradient, characterized by several discernible trend breaks. These findings contribute to our understanding of the impacts of drought on vegetation, particularly in ecologically fragile regions.

Abstract
ETHNOPHARMACOLOGICAL RELEVANCE Traditional Chinese Medicines (TCMs) are an important source to discover new anti-infectious drugs. Neuraminidases (NAs) not only play a key role on human health, but also are promising targets for anti-infectious drugs. Arnebia euchroma which is a widely used traditional Chinese medicine with the effect of cooling blood and detoxifying showed potential inhibitory activities on both bacterial NA and virus NA, suggesting that the material basis of A. euchroma deserves in-depth study. AIM OF THE STUDY To investigate the anti-infectious constituents of A. euchroma based on NA inhibition. MATERIAL AND METHODS A HPLC-DAD system incorporated an auto-sampler was used for micro-fractionation. A nanoliter liquid handler and a high sensitive multimode plate reader system were used for high throughput NA inhibition screening. Thus a high-resolution NA inhibition profiling platform was constructed. The structures of potential active components in A. euchroma obtained by the high-resolution bioassay profiling were identified by DAD and MS in parallel. Then, a target and rapid isolation of NAIs from A. euchroma was achieved under the guidance of the spectrum-effect relationship obtained above. Finally, the isolated compounds were elucidated by extensive spectroscopic methods and their bioactivities were validated by in vitro assay and molecular docking. RESULTS 16 potential active ingredients in A. euchroma were isolated and identified, including a new mero-monoterpenoid. The in vitro bioassay results revealed that 12 out of the 16 isolated compounds showed potent inhibitory activities on bacterial NA (IC50s = 1-6 μM) and five of them exhibited potent anti-microbial activities on methicillin-resistant Staphylococccus aureus (MRSA) with MICs in the range of 0.5-4 μg/mL. Furthermore, some isolated compounds showed equal or even better inhibitory activities on oseltamivir resistant viral NA than oseltamivir sensitive NA. The mechanism study in silicon revealed that these natural compounds possessed absolutely different binding modes on the bacterial and viral NAs. CONCLUSIONS Our study gave a clear spectrum-effect relationship of A. euchroma, providing a scientific evidence for future study of the multi-components synergistic effect of TCMs.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Acute lung injury (ALI)/acute respiratory distress syndrome (ARDS), acting as one common sepsis-associated organ injury, induces uncontrolled and self-amplifies pulmonary inflammation. Given the lack of clinically effective approaches, the mortality rate of it still remains high. Suramin(SUR), as an antiparasitic drug initially, was found to ameliorate sepsis associated ALI in our previous work. However, the underlying mechanism of its protective effects has not been clarified. Pyroptosis, categorized as an inflammatory form of programmed cell death, could aggravate lung inflammatory responses via inducing alveolar macrophages (AM) pyroptosis. METHODS MH-S AM cell line was stimulated with or without lipopolysaccharide (LPS) or suramin, and the differential expression genes (DEGs) were excavated using RNA sequencing (RNA-seq). To identify the regulatory roles of these genes, pyroptosis-related genes (PRGs), GO/KEGG and GSEA analysis were conducted. We also performed WB, qRTPCR and ELISA to validate the RNA-seq results and further expound the protective effect of suramin. RESULTS 624 DEGs were identified between control (CON) and lipopolysaccharide (LPS) groups, and enrichment analysis of these genes revealed significantly enriched pathways that related to immune system and signal transduction. Meanwhile, 500 DEGs were identified in LPS/SUR+LPS group. In addition to the pathways mentioned above, IL-17 pathway and C-type lectin receptor signaling pathway were also enriched. All 6 pathways were connected with pyroptosis. Concurrently, the "DESeq2" R package was used to identify differentially expressed PRGs. Nod1, Nod2, interleukin (IL)-1b, IL-6, tumor necrosis factor (TNF), NLRP3 were upregulated under LPS stimulation. Then, in SUR+LPS group, Nod2, IL-6, IL-1b, NLRP3 were downregulated. The validation results of WB, qRT-PCR, and ELISA showed: the protein and mRNA expression levels of NLRP3, caspase-1, GSDMD and the concentrations of IL-1b, IL-18 were decreased when treated with suramin and LPS. CONCLUSION Suramin could inhibit NLRP3/caspase-1/GSDMD canonical pyroptosis pathway in LPS-induced MH-S alveolar macrophages.

Abstract
Branched-chain fatty acids (BCFAs) consist of a wide variety of fatty acids with alkyl branching of methyl group. The most common BCFAs are the types with one methyl group (mmBCFA) on the penultimate carbon (iBCFA) or the antepenultimate carbon (aiBCFA). Long-chain mmBCFAs are widely existing in animal fats, milks and are mostly derived from bacteria in the diet or animal digestive system. Recent studies show that BCFAs benefit human intestinal health and immune homeostasis, but the connection between their content, distribution in the human and their nutritional functions are not well established. In this paper, we reviewed BCFAs from various dietary sources focused on their molecular species. The BCFAs biosynthesis in bacteria, Caenorhabditis elegans, mammals and their distribution in human tissues are summarized. This paper also discusses the nutritional properties of BCFAs including influences on intestinal health, immunoregulatory effects, anti-carcinoma, and anti-obesity activities, by highlighting the most recent research progress.

Abstract
Phosphate fertilizers may contain elevated concentrations of toxic metals and metalloids and therefore, their excessive application can result in the accumulation of both phosphorus (P) and metal(loid)s in agricultural soils. This study aims to investigate the occurrence, distribution, and potential plant-availability of metal(loid)s originating from phosphate fertilizer in a long-term experimental field at the Tidewater Research Station in North Carolina, where topsoil (10-20 cm deep) and subsoil (up to 150 cm deep) samples were collected from five plots with consistent and individually different application rates of P-fertilizer since 1966. We conducted systematic analyses of P and metal(loid)s in bulk soils, in the plant available fraction, and in four sequentially extracted soil fractions (exchangeable, reducible, oxidizable, and residual). The results show that P content in topsoils were directly associated with the rate of P-fertilizer application (ρ = 1, p < 0.05). Furthermore, P concentrations were highly correlated with concentrations of Cd, U, Cr, V, and As in the bulk topsoil (ρ > 0.58, p < 0.05), as well as the potential plant-available fraction (ρ > 0.67, p < 0.01), indicating the accumulation of the fertilizer-derived toxic metal(loid)s in the topsoil. Significant correlations (p < 0.001) of metal(loid)s concentrations between the bulk soil and the potential plant-available fraction raises the possibility that P-fertilizer application could increase the accumulation of toxic metal(loid)s in plants, which could increase human exposure. Results from sequential leaching experiments revealed that large portions of the trace elements, in particular Cd, occur in the soluble (exchangeable and reducing) fractions of topsoil with higher P-fertilizer input, whereas the levels of redox-sensitive elements (As, V, U, Cr) were higher in the reducible and oxidizable fractions of the soils. Overall, the data presented in this study demonstrate the effect of long-term P-fertilizer application on the occurrence and accumulation of a wide range of toxic metal(loid)s in agricultural topsoil.

Abstract
The drying process is a critical stage in developing the aroma quality of tencha. In our research, visible near infrared (Vis-NIR) and colorimetric sensor array (Vis-NIR-CSA) were used for evaluating the aroma quality of tencha drying process. Vis-NIR recorded the spectral signal of CSA after the reaction in samples. Subsequently, the aroma quality was predicted by a combination of different data fusion strategies and classification and regression tree (CART) in tencha drying process. The high-level fusion strategy showed the best performance, with calibration and prediction set accuracy of 94.68% and 93.48%, respectively. The results indicated that Vis-NIR-CSA combined with high-level data fusion could be applied satisfactorily in the aroma quality evaluation of tencha. Moreover, pentanal was identified to be highly correlated with aroma quality during tencha drying process, which verified the sensor identification results. Abstract
OBJECTIVE The aim of the work described here was to investigate the relative contribution of subtotal ultrasound-guided percutaneous microwave ablation (MWA) to amplifying programmed cell death protein-1 (PD-1) inhibition in advanced hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC). METHODS Between April 2019 and December 2021, advanced HCC patient demographics, tumor response, survival data, neutrophil-to-lymphocyte ratio (NLR) and peripheral lymphocyte profiles were retrospectively collected and analyzed. In hepa1-6 tumor-bearing C57BL/6J mice, RNA sequencing, flow cytometry, immunohistochemistry staining and cytokine tests were also performed. RESULTS Twenty-nine HCC patients were enrolled, with a median follow-up duration of 15.1 mo. Compared with the ablation rate (AR) ≤50% group (n = 10), the AR >50% group (n = 19) had a higher disease control rate, a longer time to progression and a longer overall survival. More patients in the AR >50% group had an early decrease in NLR and better immune activation. RNA sequencing of murine tumors subjected to MWA >50% AR showed that immune-related gene expression upregulated. CD8+ T cells, interferon-γ (IFN-γ) and tumor necrosis factor-α (TNF-α) were also increased, indicating that MWA >50% AR boosted the immunomodulatory effect of PD-1 inhibitors. CONCLUSION More MWA could induce superior antitumor immunity by enhancing immune-related gene expression, priming CD8+ T cells and thereby boosting PD-1 inhibition. It is advisable that eradication of tumors to the degree possible should be considered within technical access to obtain a better prognosis.

Abstract
BACKGROUND AND OBJECTIVE In needle insertion procedure, needle deflection and target movement will affect targeting accuracy. Existing planning algorithms rely on predetermined interaction force and parameters, which increase the targeting error for the patient-specific difference. In this paper, we proposed a needle-tissue interaction model based needle path planning method with patient-specific parameter identification algorithm, which is able to use iteration learning control and interaction model predicted information to improve targeting accuracy with the consideration of patient-specific differences. METHODS A 3D needle-tissue interaction deformation model has been constructed using local constraint method. The model, termed as the full computation model, predicts the needle-tissue interaction force using a Kriging-based model as well as the target movement and needle deflection simultaneously only requiring patient specific parameters. Needle paths without incorporating deformation, which is called static path, are generated by rapidly-exploring random trees algorithm first. Then, the needle-tissue interaction deformation model can calculate force and deformation of the static path and iterative learning control can correct the targeting error of moved target. In addition, the intraoperative parameter identification algorithm is proposed to identify patient-specific parameter. Simulations are carried out to verify the full computation model and needle path planning. A testbed is constructed and experiments are designed to validate the proposed method using phantom with common lesion-size obstacle markers and target markers. The deformation of tissue and needle are captured through charge coupled device camera. RESULTS Simulation results indicated the full computation model can simulate the needle-tissue interaction process and the proposed method can achieve needle path planning incorporating tissue deformation. Experiment results indicated the tissue deformation and needle deflection agree between model prediction and experiments. The proposed path planning method can reduce targeting error from maximum of 3.89 mm without incorporating deformation to less than 1 mm in 4 phantom experiments. CONCLUSIONS The full computation model based needle path planning is verified to be effective by experiments. The planning accuracy is improved based on the deformation predicted by full computation model and the desired accuracy is achieved.

Abstract
In the human body, almost all cells interact with extracellular matrices (ECMs), which have tissue and organ-specific compositions and architectures. These ECMs not only function as cellular scaffolds, providing structural support, but also play a crucial role in dynamically regulating various cellular functions. This comprehensive review delves into the examination of biofabrication strategies used to develop bioactive materials that accurately mimic one or more biophysical and biochemical properties of ECMs. We discuss the potential integration of these ECM-mimics into a range of physiological and pathological in vitro models, enhancing our understanding of cellular behavior and tissue organization. Lastly, we propose future research directions for ECM-mimics in the context of tissue engineering and organ-on-a-chip applications, offering potential advancements in therapeutic approaches and improved patient outcomes.

Abstract
Platycodon grandiflorus set ornamental, edible, and medicinal plant with broad prospects for further application development. However, there are no reports on the YABBY transcription factor in P. grandiflorus. Identification and analysis of the YABBY gene family of P. grandiflorus using bioinformatics means. Six YABBY genes were identified and divided into five subgroups. Transcriptome data and qRT-PCR were used to analyze the expression patterns of YABBY. YABBY genes exhibited organ-specific patterns in expression in P grandiflorus. Upon salt stress and drought induction, P. grandiflorus presented different morphological and physiological changes with some dynamic changes. Under salt treatment, the YABBY gene family was down-regulated; PgYABBY5 was up-regulated in leaves at 24 h. In drought treatment, PgYABBY1, PgYABBY2, and PgYABBY3 were down-regulated to varying degrees, but PgYABBY3 was significantly up-regulated in the roots. PgYABBY5 was up-regulated gradually after being down-regulated. PgYABBY5 was significantly up-regulated in stem and leaf at 48 h. PgYABBY6 was down-regulated at first and then significantly up-regulated. The dynamic changes of salt stress and drought stress can be regarded as the responses of plants to resist damage. During the whole process of salt and drought stress treatment, the protein content of each tissue part of P grandiflorus changed continuously. At the same time, we found that the promoter region of the PgYABBY gene contains stress-resistant elements, and the regulatory role of YABBY transcription factor in the anti-stress mechanism of P grandiflorus remains to be studied. PgYABBY1, PgYABBY2, and PgYABBY5 may be involved in the regulation of saponins in P. grandiflorus. PgYABBY5 may be involved in the drought resistance mechanism in P. grandiflorus stems and leaves. This study may provide a theoretical basis for studying the regulation of terpenoids by the YABBY transcription factor and its resistance to abiotic stress.

Abstract
Few studies on the effects of human activities and global climate change on temporal stability have considered either grazing or precipitation addition (PA). How community stability responds to the interaction between PA and grazing in a single experiment remains unknown. We studied the impact of grazing and PA on the temporal stability of communities in four years field experiment conducted in a typical steppe, adopting a randomized complete block design with grazing was the main block factor and PA was the split block factor. Grazing and PA had negative impacts on the temporal stability of communities. PA reduced the community stability through decreasing the stability of subordinate and community species richness (SR), whereas grazing reduced the community stability through decreasing the stability of the SR and dominant species. In contrast, grazing and PA maintained community stability through increasing species asynchronism and promoting the decoupling of asynchronism and stability. Our results revealed the different mechanisms of grazing and PA on community stability. Exploring the response characteristics of population dynamics to global climate change and pasture management is key to understanding future climate scenarios and changes in community stability under grazing.

Abstract
Marine periphytic ciliates play a pivotal role in shaping coastal ecosystems dynamics, thereby acting as robust biological indicators of aquatic ecosystem health and functionality. However, the understanding of the effects of veterinary antibiotics on composition and structure of periphytic ciliate communities remains limited. Therefore, this research investigates the influence of the veterinary antibiotic nitrofurazone on the community dynamics of marine periphytic ciliates through bioassay experiments conducted over a one-year cycle. Various concentrations of nitrofurazone were administered to the tested ciliate assemblages, and subsequent changes in community composition, abundance, and diversity were quantitatively analyzed. The research revealed significant alterations in periphytic ciliate communities following exposure to nitrofurazone. Concentration-dependent (0-8 mg L-1) decrease in ciliates abundance, accompanied by shifts in species composition, community structure, and community patterns were observed. Comprehensive assessment of diversity metrics indicated significant changes in species richness and evenness in the presence of nitrofurazone, potentially disrupting the stability of ciliate communities. Furthermore, nitrofurazone significantly influenced the community structure of ciliates in all seasons (winter: R2 = 0.489; spring: R2 = 0.666; summer: R2 = 0.700, autumn: R2 = 0.450), with high toxic potential in treatments 4 and 8 mg L-1. Differential abundances of ciliates varied across seasons and nitrofurazone treatments, some orders like Pleurostomatida were consistently affected, while others (i.e., Strombidida and Philasterida) showed irregular distributions or were evenly affected (e.g., Urostylida and Synhymeniida). Retrieved contrasting patterns between nitrofurazone and community responses underscore the broad response repertoire exhibited by ciliates to antibiotic exposure, suggesting potential cascading effects on associated ecological processes in the periphyton community. These findings significantly enhance the understanding of the ecological impacts of nitrofurazone on marine periphytic ciliate communities, emphasizing the imperative for vigilant monitoring and regulation of veterinary antibiotics to protect marine ecosystem health and biodiversity. Further research is required to explore the long-term effects of nitrofurazone exposure and evaluate potential strategies to reduce the ecological repercussions of antibiotics in aquatic environments, with a particular focus on nitrofurazone.

Abstract
Excess fluoride (F-) in groundwater can be hazardous to human health of local residents who rely upon it. Beside natural sources, anthropogenic input may be an additional source to be considered. Twenty surface water and 396 groundwater samples were collected from the Nansi Lake Basin, with hydrogeochemical and isotope techniques employed to clarify the spatial variability, source, and the natural and anthropogenic factors regulating the occurrence of high F- groundwater. The factors responsible for elevated F- levels in surface water and deep confined aquifers are discussed based on their hydraulic relationship. Also a conceptual model of F- enrichment with different aquifer systems is put forward based on the geomorphic units of the basin. The results show that F- concentration is between 0.1 and 6.9 mg/L in the west of Lake, while ranged from 0.03 to 1.74 mg/L in the east of Lake. The hydrogeological setting and lithology are the primary factor determining the provenance of high-fluoride groundwater in the basin. Fluoride mainly originated from the dissolution of fluorine-bearing minerals, and is affected by the alkaline groundwater environment, cation exchange, adsorption, and evaporation. The landforms on the east side of Nansi Lake are low hills and piedmont sedimentary plains, where the aquifers consist of karst fissure water and overlying porewater. High F- groundwater is not observed in this area due to its rapid flow and Ca2+-enriched hydrochemical characteristics. The anthropogenic input (such as fertilizer application on farms and illegal industrial pollutant discharge), contribute F- to groundwater in varying degrees, especially in the shallow aquifers east of the lake and in some parts west of the lake. This work is a clear example of how natural processes together with human activities can affect the chemical quality of groundwater, which is essential to safeguard the sustainable management of water resources in semi-arid areas.

Abstract
Cancer can be considered one of the most threatening diseases to human health, and immunotherapy, especially T-cell immunotherapy, is the most promising treatment for cancers. Diet therapy is widely concerned in cancer because of its safety and fewer side effects. Many studies have shown that both the function of T cells and the progression of cancer can be affected by nutrients in the diet. In fact, it is challenging for T cells to infiltrate and eliminate cancer cells in tumor microenvironment, because of the harsh metabolic condition. The intake of different nutrients has a great influence on the proliferation, activation, differentiation and exhaustion of T cells. In this review, we summarize the effects of typical amino acids, lipids, carbohydrates and other nutritional factors on T cell functions and provide future perspectives for dietary treatment of cancer based on modifications of T cell functions.

Abstract
Photoacoustic imaging (PAI) and photothermal therapy (PTT) conducted over the near-infrared-II (NIR-II) window offer the benefits of noninvasiveness and deep tissue penetration. This necessitates the development of highly effective therapeutic agents with NIR-II photoresponsivity. Currently, the predominant organic diagnostic agents used in NIR-II PAI-guided PTT are conjugated polymeric materials. However, they exhibit a low in vivo clearance rate and long-term biotoxicity, limiting their clinical translation. In this study, an organic small molecule (CY-1234) with NIR-II absorption and nanoencapsulation (CY-1234 nanoparticles (NPs)) for PAI-guided PTT is reported. Extended π-conjugation is achieved in the molecule by introducing donor-acceptor units at both ends of the molecule. Consequently, CY-1234 exhibits a maximum absorption peak at 1234 nm in tetrahydrofuran. Nanoaggregates of CY-1234 are synthesized via F-127 encapsulation. They exhibit an excellent photothermal conversion efficiency of 76.01% upon NIR-II light irradiation. After intravenous injection of CY-1234 NPs into tumor-bearing mice, strong PA signals and excellent tumor ablation are observed under 1064 nm laser irradiation. This preliminary study can pave the way for the development of small-molecule organic nanoformulations for future clinical applications.

Abstract
Cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) is widely recognized as an effective treatment for obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD). However, few patients are able to receive CBT. Internet-based CBT (ICBT) may be able to overcome this problem. In this study, we aimed to compare the efficacy of CBT, therapist-guided ICBT (TG-ICBT), unguided ICBT (UG-ICBT), and none therapist-guided ICBT (NTG-ICBT) by a network meta-analysis. The primary outcome was the mean change in OCD severity measured by the Yale-Brown Obsessive Compulsive Scale (Y-BOCS) or the Children's Yale-Brown Obsessive Compulsive Scale (CY-BOCS). The secondary outcomes included the severity of depressive symptoms, side effects, and cost-effectiveness. A total of 25 trials with 1642 participants were included. We found that the efficacy of CBT was superior to that of TG-ICBT. The mean improvement in Y-BOCS/CY-BOCS scores was higher in CBT group than in UG-ICBT group, but this difference was not statistically significant. The efficacy did not differ significantly between TG-ICBT and UG-ICBT. CBT, TG-ICBT, and UG-ICBT were all more effective than the psychological placebo, waiting list, and pill placebo. In terms of efficacy, CBT combined with drug therapy was better than CBT, TG-ICBT, and UG-ICBT. Sensitivity analyses supported these findings. Based on the current evidence, we recommend TG-ICBT when CBT is not available. However, it is undeniable that UG-ICBT also has the potential to be an effective alternative to CBT. More evidence is needed to support this possibility.

Abstract
The bilinear probabilistic principal component analysis (BPPCA) was introduced recently as a model-based dimension reduction technique on matrix data. However, BPPCA is based on the Gaussian assumption and hence is vulnerable to potential outlying matrix-valued observations. In this article, we present a new robust extension of BPPCA, called BPPCA using a matrix variate t distribution ( t BPPCA), that is built upon a matrix variate t distribution. Like the multivariate t , this distribution offers an additional robustness tuning parameter, which can downweight outliers. By introducing a Gamma distributed latent weight variable, this distribution can be represented hierarchically. With this representation, two efficient accelerated expectation-maximization (EM)-like algorithms for parameter estimation are developed. Experiments on a number of synthetic and real datasets are conducted to understand t BPPCA and compare with several closely related competitors, including its vector-based counterpart. The results reveal that t BPPCA is generally more robust and accurate in the presence of outliers. Moreover, the expected latent weights under t BPPCA can be effectively used for outliers' detection, which is much more reliable than its vector-based counterpart due to its better robustness.

Abstract
OBJECTIVES Tuina is an effective complementary and alternative therapy. However, no bibliometric analysis has explored the global research status and emerging trends of tuina. Therefore, our study aimed to provide a perspective on the current state and frontier trends in the field. DESIGN Bibliometric analysis SETTING: Tuina-related publications between January 1, 2003, and December 31, 2022, were obtained from the Web of Science Core Collection database. MAIN OUTCOME MEASURES The knowledge graph software CiteSpace and VOSViewer were used to quantitatively analyse annual trends in annual publication volume, journals, countries, institutions, authors, cited references, and keywords. RESULTS Overall, 1877 articles were obtained. Consequently, the number of annual publications in tuina gradually increased. China published the most articles (1402 articles, 58.01%), followed by the Chinese Academy of Sciences (110 articles, 2.57%). Original and review articles were the two main types of publications. Photonics Research ranked first (101 articles, 5.38%) as the most influential affiliate and productive journal. These articles come from 8423 authors, among whom Min Fang published the most publications, and Ernst E was co-cited most often. According to the keyword co-occurrence analysis, the new research frontiers were meta-analyses. CONCLUSION This comprehensive bibliometric study analysed the publications on tuina and presented them visually, revealing new research trends, pivotal points, research hotspots, and frontiers. Prospective strategies and potential directions for further studies were also provided.

Abstract
Plant growth is directly influenced by biotic and abiotic stress factors resulting from environmental changes. Plant growth-promoting rhizobacteria (PGPR) have become a crucial area of research aimed at addressing these challenges. However, a knowledge gap exists regarding how PGPR impacts the microenvironments surrounding plant roots. The purpose of this study is to elucidate the effects of two distinct PGPR strains, Streptomyces griseorubiginosus BTU6 (known for its resistance to smut disease) and S. chartreusis WZS021, on sugarcane roots. Additionally, we compare the resultant modifications in the physicochemical characteristics of the rhizospheric soil and root architecture. The results reveal that following the inoculation of S. chartreusis WZS021, there was a significant increase in the active chemicals associated with nitrogen metabolism in sugarcane roots. This enhancement led to a substantial enrichment of nitrogen-cycling microbes like Pseudomonas and Gemmatimona. This finding supports earlier research indicating that S. chartreusis WZS021 enhances sugarcane's capacity to utilize nitrogen effectively. Furthermore, after treatment with S. chartreusis, Aspergillus became the predominant strain among endophytic fungi, resulting in alterations to their community structure that conferred drought resistance. In contrast, the relative abundance of Xanthomonas in the root environment decreased following inoculation with S. griseorubiginosus. Instead, Gemmatimona became more prevalent, creating a favorable environment for plants to bolster their resistance against disease. Notably, inoculations with S. chartreusis WZS021 and S. griseorubiginosus BTU6 led to substantial changes in the chemical composition, enzymatic activity, and microbial community composition in the soil surrounding sugarcane roots. However, there were distinct differences in the specific alterations induced by each strain. These findings enhance plant resilience to stress by shedding light on PGPR-mediated modifications in root microenvironments.

Abstract
The entomopathogenic nematode (EPN) Heterorhabditis bacteriophora is an effective biological-control agent of insect pests. The dauer juveniles (DJs) seek for, infect insects, and release cells of the carried symbiotic bacterium of the genus Photorhabdus. Inside the host, the DJs perceive signals from the insect's haemolymph that trigger the exit from the arrested stage and the further development to mature adults. This developmental step is called DJ recovery. In commercial production, a high and synchronous DJ recovery determines the success of liquid-culture mass production. To enhance the understanding about genetic components regulating DJ recovery, more than 160 mutant- and 25 wild type inbred lines (WT ILs) were characterized for DJ recovery induced by cell-free bacterial supernatant. The mutant lines exhibited a broader DJ recovery range than WT ILs (4.6-67.2% vs 1.6-35.7%). A subset of mutant lines presented high variability of virulence against mealworm (Tenebrio molitor) (from 22 to 78% mortality) and mean time survival under oxidative stress (70 mM H2O2; from 10 to 151 h). Genotyping by sequencing of 96 mutant lines resulted in more than 150 single nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs), of which four results are strongly associated with the DJ recovery trait. The present results are the basis for future approaches in improving DJ recovery by breeding under in vitro liquid-culture mass production in H. bacteriophora. This generated platform of EMS-mutants is as well a versatile tool for the investigation of many further traits of interest in EPNs. KEYPOINTS: • Exposure to bacterial supernatants of Photorhabdus laumondii induces the recovery of Heterorhabditis bacteriophora dauer juveniles (DJs). Both, the bacteria and the nematode partner, influence this response. However, the complete identity of its regulators is not known. • We dissected the genetic component of DJ recovery regulation in H. bacteriophora nematodes by generating a large array of EMS mutant lines and characterizing their recovery pheno- and genotypes. • We determined sets of mutants with contrasting DJ recovery and genotyped a subset of the EMS-mutant lines via genotyping by sequencing (GBS) and identified SNPs with significant correlation to the recovery trait.
