Abstract
Photodynamic therapy (PDT) is often applied in a clinical setting to treat bladder cancer. However, current photosensitizers report drawbacks such as low efficacy, low selectivity, and numerous side effects, which have limited the clinical values of PDT for bladder cancer. Previously, we developed the first bladder cancer-specific aptamer that can selectively bind to and be internalized by bladder tumor cells versus normal uroepithelium cells. Here, we use an aptamer-based drug delivery system to deliver photosensitizer chlorine e6 (Ce6) into bladder tumor cells. In addition to Ce6, we also incorporate catalase into the drug complex to increase local oxygen levels in the tumor tissue. Compared with free Ce6, an aptamer-guided DNA nanotrain (NT) loaded with Ce6 and catalase (NT-Catalase-Ce6) can specifically recognize bladder cancer cells, produce oxygen locally, induce ROS in tumor cells, and cause mitochondrial apoptosis. In an orthotopic mouse model of bladder cancer, the intravesical instillation of NT-Catalase-Ce6 exhibits faster drug internalization and a longer drug retention time in tumor tissue compared with that in normal urothelium. Moreover, our modified PDT significantly inhibits tumor growth with fewer side effects such as cystitis than free Ce6. This aptamer-based photosensitizer delivery system can therefore improve the selectivity and efficacy and reduce the side effects of PDT treatment in mouse models of bladder cancer, bearing a great translational value for bladder cancer intravesical therapy.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Prior studies reported that elevated asprosin level was associated with obesity in adults and animal models. However, the relationship between asprosin level and children with obeisty remains controversial. The aim of our analysis was to systematically review available literatures linking asprosin and children with obesity for a comprehensive understanding of the relationship between circulating asprosin level and obesity in children. METHODS Eight databases were gleaned for studies published up to January 2024. Standard mean difference with 95% confidence interval (CI) and Fisher's Z transformation was calculated to evaluate the relationship between asprosin level and children with obesity using the Review Manager 5.4 Software. Other indicators were measured via mean difference with 95% CI. RESULTS Six observational studies were included both in systematic review and meta-analysis. The current evidence indicated that no significant difference was observed in the level of circulating asprosin between the children with and without obesity (SMD = 0.37; 95% CI:-0.22-0.95, p = 0.22). However, Fisher's Z transformation suggested the positive association of circulating asprosin levels and clinical index measuring the degree of obesity: total cholesterol (Fisher's Z: 0.11, 95% CI: 0.02-0.20, p = 0.02). CONCLUSIONS Circulating asprosin level was not independently related to childhood obesity currently. More rigorous longitudinal researches were required to disentangle the causations. However, the positive association of asprosin levels and total cholesterol indicated that asprosin might get involved in the lipid-metabolism of childhood obesity, asprosin might be a prospective bio-index and targeted treatment of total cholesterol metabolism besides the role of glucogenic and orexigenic. Abstract
A novel actinobacterial strain, designated as JXJ CY 30 T, was isolated from the phycosphere of Microcystis aeruginosa FACHB-905 (Maf) collected from Lake Dianchi, China. The strain was a Gram-stain-positive, aerobic and coccus-shaped actinobacterium. It had alanine, glutamic acid, aspartic acid, and lysine in the peptidoglycan, and mannose, ribose and arabinose in its cell wall sugars, anteiso-C15:0 and iso-C15:0 as the main cellular fatty acids, MK-7 and MK-8 as the major respiratory quinones, and phosphatidylglycerol, diphosphatidylglycerol, phosphatidylinositol, glycolipid, and an unidentified phospholipid as the polar lipids. The DNA G + C content was 73.08%. Its 16 S rRNA gene sequence shared 99.14%, and 98.75% similarities with Micrococcus flavus DSM 19079 T and M. porci KD337-16T, respectively, and ≤98.41% similarities with other type strains of the genus Micrococcus. It formed independent clade with M. flavus DSM 19079 T on the phylogenetic trees. The digital DNA-DNA hybridization and average nucleotide identity values between strain JXJ CY 30 T and M. flavus DSM 19079 T and M. porci KD337-16T were 48.0% and 92.1%, 25.5% and 83.2%, respectively. These data above indicated that strain JXJ CY 30 T represented a new species of the genus Micrococcus, and the species epithet is proposed as Micrococcus lacusdianchii sp. nov. (type strain JXJ CY 30 T = KCTC 49378 T = CGMCC 1.17508 T). Strain JXJ CY 30 T can potentially provide Maf with various nutrients such as available phosphorus and nitrogen, plant hormones, various vitamins and carotenoids for growth, while it was inhibited by metabolites from its symbiotic algae Maf.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Clinical trials of new drugs for tic disorders (TD) often fail to yield positive results. Placebo and nocebo responses play a vital role in interpreting the outcomes of randomized controlled trials (RCTs), yet these responses in RCTs of TD remain unexplored. OBJECTIVE The aim was to assess the magnitude of placebo and nocebo responses in RCTs of pharmacological interventions for TD and identify influencing factors. METHODS A systematic search of the Embase, Medline, Cochrane Central Register of Controlled Trials, and PsycINFO databases was conducted. Eligible studies were RCTs that compared active pharmacological agents with placebos. Placebo response was defined as the change from baseline in TD symptom severity in the placebo group, and nocebo response as the proportion experiencing adverse events (AEs) in this group. Subgroup analysis and meta-regression were performed to explore modifying factors. RESULTS Twenty-four trials involving 2222 participants were included in this study. A substantial placebo response in TD symptom severity was identified, with a pooled effect size of -0.79 (95% confidence interval [CI] -0.99 to -0.59; I2 = 67%). Forty-four percent (95% CI 27% to 63%; I2 = 92%) of patients experienced AEs while taking inert pills. Sample size, study design, and randomization ratio were correlated with changes in placebo and nocebo responses. CONCLUSION There were considerable placebo and nocebo responses in TD clinical trials. Abstract
PURPOSE Somatostatin receptor antagonists have shown promising performance for imaging neuroendocrine neoplasms. However, there is a lack of studies exploring the diagnostic performance of SSTR antagonists or comparing them with agonists in a large cohort of patients with NENs. This study aimed to retrospectively review all SSTR antagonist PET/CT scans conducted at Peking Union Medical College Hospital since November 2018 in patients with confirmed or suspected NENs. METHODS Four types of SSTR antagonists were utilized, including [68Ga]Ga-NODAGA-LM3, [68Ga]Ga-DOTA-LM3, [68Ga]Ga-NODAGA-JR11, and [68Ga]Ga-DOTA-JR11. The reference standard was based on a combination of histopathology, clinical evaluation, imaging results, and follow-up. Patient-based sensitivity, specificity, and accuracy were evaluated. The SUVmax and tumor-to-liver ratio (TLR) of the hottest lesions was recorded and compared between antagonists and [68Ga]Ga-DOTATATE. RESULTS A total of 622 antagonist scans from 549 patients were included in the analysis. The patient-level sensitivity, specificity, and accuracy of antagonist imaging (all tracers combined) were 91.0% (443/487), 91.9% (57/62), and 91.1% (500/549), respectively. In 181 patients with a comparative [68Ga]Ga-DOTATATE PET/CT scan, the patient-level sensitivity, specificity, and accuracy were 87.5% (147/168), 76.9% (10/13), and 86.7% (157/181), respectively. For the hottest lesions, SSTR antagonists all tracers combined demonstrated an overall comparable SUVmax to [68Ga]Ga-DOTATATE (40.1 ± 32.5 vs. 39.4 ± 23.8, p = 0.772). While [68Ga]Ga-NODAGA-LM3 showed significantly higher uptake than [68Ga]Ga-DOTATATE (57.4 ± 38.5 vs. 40.0 ± 22.8, p<0.001), [68Ga]Ga-NODAGA-JR11 (39.7 ± 26.5 vs. 34.3 ± 23.9, p = 0.108) and [68Ga]Ga-DOTA-LM3 (38.9 ± 32.1 vs. 37.2 ± 22.1, p = 0.858) showed comparable uptake to [68Ga]Ga-DOTATATE, and [68Ga]Ga-DOTA-JR11 showed lower uptake (28.9 ± 26.1 vs. 44.0 ± 25.7, p = 0.001). All antagonists exhibited significantly higher TLR than [68Ga]Ga-DOTATATE (12.1 ± 10.8 vs. 5.2 ± 4.5, p<0.001). CONCLUSION Gallium-68 labeled SSTR antagonists could serve as alternatives to SSTR agonists for imaging of NENs. Among various antagonists, [68Ga]Ga-NODAGA-LM3 seems to have the best imaging profile.

Abstract
Background Evidence suggests that countries with higher Covid-19 infection rates experienced poorer mental health. This study examined whether hair cortisol reduced over time in New Zealand, a country that managed to eliminate the virus in the first year of the pandemic due to an initial strict lockdown. Methods A longitudinal cohort study assessed self-reported stress, anxiety and depression and collected hair samples that were analyzed for cortisol, across two waves in 2020. The sample consisted of 44 adults who each returned two 3 cm hair samples and completed self-reports. Hair cortisol was assessed per centimetre. Results Hair cortisol reduced over time (F (5, 99.126) = 10.15, p < .001, partial eta squared = 0.19), as did anxiety and depression. Higher hair cortisol was significantly associated with more negative life events reported at wave two (r = 0.30 segment 1, r = 0.34 segment 2, p < .05), but not anxiety or depression. Conclusions Strict virus control measures may not only reduce infection rates, but also reduce psychological distress, and hair cortisol over time.

Abstract
Cerebral ischemic stroke (CIS) is a kind of acute cerebrovascular disease with fast onset, low-cure rate, and high case-fatality rate. The application of Aconitum coreanum on CIS was recorded in many ancient books in China with it mechanism and effective components unclear. This study aimed to analyze the potential mechanism and effetvie components of A. coreanum on treating CIS. Neurological function score, cerebral infarction rate, and inflammatory indicators were applied to evaluate the efficacy of A. coreanum on gerbils with CIS. The prototype compounds in A. coreanum which were absorbed into blood was analyzed and identified by Ultra high performance liquid chromatography-Q exactive focus-Mass spectrometer (UPLC-QE-MS). And bioinformatics analysis was used to predict their potential targets or pathways of action. Western blotting and immunofluorescence were adopted to validate the targets or pathway with high relation. After treatment with A. coreanum, the neurological function status of gerbils with CIS was significantly improved, the ischemic area of the brain and the levels of inflammatory indicators significantly reduced. 22 prototype compounds in A. coreanum absorbed into blood were identified mainly including C-20 and C-19 diterpenoid alkaloids. Gene ontology (GO) function enrichment analysis illustrated that A. coreanum acted on protein phosphorylation, receptor complexes, protein kinase activity, and inflammatory response to impove CIS. The kyoto encyclopedia of genes and genomes (KEGG) pathway enrichment analysis results revealed that PI3K/Akt signaling pathway was a key pathway. Western blotting and immunofluorescence validated that A. coreanum acted on PI3K/Akt signaling pathway. In conclusion, A. coreanum improved the inflammantory condition in CIS by acting on PI3K/Akt signaling pathway and the effective components were the diterpenoid alkaloids in it.

Abstract
A novel alphaproteobacterial strain JXJ CY 41T was isolated from a culture mass of Microcystis, collected from Lake Dianchi, south-west, China. Strain JXJ CY 41T was gram-strain-negative, aerobic, motile, with rod-shaped cells (0.4-1.0 × 1.7-3.5 μm). It was positive for catalase and starch hydrolysis, negative for oxidase and hydrolysis of Tweens (20, 40, and 80). Growth occurred at 10-44 °C, pH 5.0-10.0, and 0-5.0% (w/v) NaCl. Major fatty acids included C16:0 (28.1%), 11-methyl C18:1 ω7c (36.7%) and C18:1 ω7c (20.8%). Q10 was the sole ubiquinone. The polar lipids were diphosphatidylglycerol, phosphatidylglycerol, glycolipid, and an unidentified lipid. The DNA G + C content was 63.1%. Its 16S rRNA gene sequence showed high similarities with Devosia oryziradicis G19T (99.5%; not validly published), D. yakushimensis Yak96BT (98.3%) and D. ginsengisoli Gsoil 520T (98.1%), and less than 98.1% similarities with other members of the genus Devosia. The digital DNA-DNA hybridization (dDDH) and average nucleotide identity (ANI) values between strain JXJ CY 41T and its 5 closest similar strains were 19.9-24.1% and 75.7-80.5%, respectively. Based on the data above, strain JXJ CY 41T was identified as a novel species of the genus Devosia, for which the epithet Devosia lacusdianchii sp. nov. was proposed. The type strain is JXJ CY 41T (= KCTC 72812T = CGMCC 1.17502T). Strain JXJ CY 41T exhibited different interactions with Microcystis aeruginosa FACHB-905 (Maf) under different conditions, and Maf could control the bacterial cellular density by secreting unknown specific chemical compounds according to its nutritional requirements.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Intervertebral cages used in clinical applications were often general products with standard specifications, which were challenging to match with the cervical vertebra and prone to cause stress shielding and subsidence. OBJECTIVE To design and fabricate customized tantalum (Ta) intervertebral fusion cages that meets the biomechanical requirements of the cervical segment. METHODS The lattice intervertebral cages were customized designed and fabricated by the selective laser melting. The joint and muscle forces of the cervical segment under different movements were analyzed using reverse dynamics method. The stress characteristics of cage, plate, screws and vertebral endplate were analyzed by finite element analysis. The fluid flow behaviors and permeability of three lattice structures were simulated by computational fluid dynamics. Compression tests were executed to investigate the biomechanical properties of the cages. RESULTS Compared with the solid cages, the lattice-filled structures significantly reduced the stress of cages and anterior fixation system. In comparison to the octahedroid and quaddiametral lattice-filled cages, the bitriangle lattice-filled cage had a lower stress shielding rate, higher permeability, and superior subsidence resistance ability. CONCLUSION The inverse dynamics simulation combined with finite element analysis is an effective method to investigate the biomechanical properties of the cervical vertebra during movements.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Short peripheral intravenous catheters are the most common invasive procedure used to deliver medications, blood products, and fluids to patients, and failure has the potential to impact the quality of care. METHODS This study compared IVs stabilized with current transparent film dressing to those using an engineered stabilization device. The first phase of the study evaluated documentation; data from patient records were found less than optimal but most complete for securement and removal, the two fields most critical to the study. The second phase measured IV dwell time, restart rates, and time between IV loss and restarts. RESULTS Although there were no statistically significant differences in restarts, the IV dwell time was longer when the engineered device was in place, helping to extend the life of the IV and prevent interruption of care. In the absence of data on the cost of infections and other complications, the use of an engineered device increased the cost of IV starts. CONCLUSIONS Adding an engineered stabilization device increases the cost of peripheral IV starts, but contributes to reducing IV restarts and preventing IV complications due to destabilized IVs. Although there were no statistically significant differences in restarts, the IV dwell time was longer when the device was in place, helping to extend the life of the IV and prevent interruption of care. Complete and accurate documentation and improved quality depended upon the ability to abstract unit-level data, which is vital for capturing the appropriate healthcare indicators. Clinical nurses must be involved in the decision-making regarding health records and operability at the unit level.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE To use logistic regression to analyze the attributes underlying patients' treatment options for low-grade squamous intraepithelial lesion (LSIL) complicated with high-risk human papillomavirus (HR-HPV) infection, and identify the best benefit group of different treatment options. METHODS Clinical data of 197 LSIL patients with HR-HPV infection between June 2009 and February 2022 were collected. According to the treatment options chosen by the patients, they were divided into the interferon, photodynamic therapy, follow-up observation, and focused ultrasound (FUS) treatment groups. One-way analysis of variance (ANOVA) and multivariate logistic regression analysis were used to analyze the influencing factors, including age, occupation, education level, maternity history, reason for encounter, route of consultation, annual personal and household income, screening for related risk factors, and identifying the best benefit group of different treatment options. RESULTS One-way ANOVA revealed a statistically significant difference in age, education level, maternity history, reason for encounter, and annual household income (p < 0.05). Multivariate logistic regression analysis was performed on these five factors, indicating that age ≤35 years, high school educational level or higher, and no childbirth history were independent risk factors influencing patients' choices of FUS treatment. The receiver operating characteristic curve was used to determine the age threshold of 31 years. CONCLUSION Age, educational level, and maternity history were independent risk factors influencing patients' choice of treatment modality for LSIL complicated with HR-HPV infection. Age ≤31 years, high school, equivalent, or higher educational level, and no childbirth yielded a higher rate of choosing FUS treatment for LSIL patients with HR-HPV infection.

Abstract
Objective: To explore the therapeutic efficacy and factors influencing the sequential combination of nucleos(t)ide analogues (NAs) with pegylated interferon alpha (Peg-IFN-α) in the treatment of patients with chronic hepatitis B (CHB). Methods: 144 CHB cases with NAs treatment for more than 1 year, HBV DNA < 20 IU/ml, hepatitis B surface antigen (HBsAg) quantification < 3 000 IU/ml, treated with a sequential combination of Peg-IFN-α treatment for 48 to 96 weeks, and followed up were selected from the Fifth Medical Center of the PLA General Hospital between May 2018 and May 2020. Intention-to-treat analysis was used to measure the HBsAg clearance rate at 96 weeks. The Kaplan-Meier method was used to compute the cumulative HBsAg clearance rate at 96 weeks. Univariate and multivariate logistic regression were used to analyze the factors influencing HBsAg clearance at 48 weeks of sequential combination therapy. Univariate and multifactorial COX proportional hazard models were used to analyze the factors influencing HBsAg clearance following 96 weeks of prolonged PEG-IFN-α treatment. The receiver operating characteristic curve was used to assess the predictive value of factors influencing HBsAg clearance. A Mann-Whitney U test was used to compare the measurement data between groups. The count data was compared using the χ(2) test between groups. Results: 41 (28.47%) cases achieved HBsAg clearance at 48 weeks of sequential combination therapy. The HBsAg clearance rate at 96 weeks was 40.28% (58/144) by intention-to-treat analysis. The Kaplan-Meier method computed that the cumulative HBsAg clearance rate at 96 weeks was 68.90%. Multivariate logistic regression analysis showed that HBsAg quantification at baseline (OR = 0.090, 95%CI: 0.034-0.240, P < 0.001) and a 24-week drop in HBsAg level (OR = 7.788, 95%CI: 3.408-17.798, P < 0.001) were independent predictors of HBsAg clearance in CHB patients treated sequentially in combination with NAs and Peg-IFN-α for 48 weeks. Receiver operating characteristic curve analysis showed that the baseline HBsAg quantification [area under the receiver operating characteristic curve (AUC), 0.911, 95% CI: 0.852-0.952)] and 24-week drop in HBsAg level (AUC = 0.881, 95%CI: 0.814-0.930) had equally good predictive value for 48-week HBsAg clearance, but there was no statistically significant difference between the two (Z = 0.638, P = 0.523). The value of the combination of baseline HBsAg quantification and 24-week drop in HBsAg level (AUC = 0.981, 95%CI: 0.941-0.997) was superior to that of single baseline HBsAg quantification (Z = 3.017, P = 0.003) and 24-week drop in HBsAg level (Z = 3.214, P = 0.001) in predicting HBsAg clearance rate at 48 weeks. Multivariate COX proportional hazards model analysis showed that HBsAg quantification at 48 weeks (HR = 0.364, 95%CI: 0.176-0.752, P = 0.006) was an independent predictor of HBsAg clearance with a prolonged course to 96 weeks of Peg-IFN-α treatment. Conclusion: The HBsAg clearance rate can be accurately predicted with baseline HBsAg quantification combined with a 24-week drop in HBsAg level in patients with CHB who are treated with a sequential combination of NAs and Peg-IFN-α therapy for 48 weeks. Prolonging the course of Peg-IFN-α treatment can enhance the HBsAg clearance rate's capability. An independent predictor of HBsAg clearance is HBsAg quantification at 48 weeks of sequential combination therapy with a prolonged course of 96 weeks of Peg-IFN-α treatment.

Abstract
Prior studies demonstrated an equivocal conclusion about the association between the level of retinol-binding protein 4 (RBP4)/visfatin and periodontitis patients with obesity. The aim of our study (Prospero ID: CRD42023469058) was to systematically review the available articles linking the biofluid levels of RBP4/visfatin to the comorbidity of periodontitis and obesity. Clinical trials were screened in accordance with specific inclusion criteria from seven databases up to November 2023. A quality assessment was performed with the Newcastle-Ottawa Scale and ROBINS-I tools for observational and interventional trials, respectively. The standard mean difference (SMD) with a 95% confidence interval (CI) related to the RBP4 level was recorded; the other indicators related to the visfatin level were measured via the mean difference (MD) with the corresponding 95% CI, and Fisher's Z transformation was measured to reveal the association using Review Manager 5.4. The current evidence was based on five observational studies and two interventional studies. All of them were included in the systematic review, and six of them were in the meta-analysis. Statistical analysis indicated that there was no significant difference in the circulating levels of RBP4 in the periodontitis patients with obesity or without, who were labeled as OP or NP, respectively (155 OP-107 NP: SMD = 1.38; 95% CI: -0.18-2.94, p = 0.08), as well as the periodontal healthy patients with a normal weight, who were labelled as NnP (116 OP-79 NnP: SMD = 6.76; 95% CI: -5.34-18.87, p = 0.27). Meanwhile, a significant higher level of serum visfatin was found in the OP patients than that of the NP (86 OP-45 NP: MD = 4.21; 95% CI: 2.65-5.77, p < 0.00001)/NnP (164 OP-88 NnP: MD = 13.02; 95% CI: 7.34-18.70, p < 0.00001) group. In addition, a positive association was observed between the serum RBP4 and body mass index/clinical attachment loss (CAL). And, then, there was a positive association between the serum visfatin and periodontal parameters, including the probing depth, CAL, and plaque index, as well as metabolic parameters, including the total cholesterol, triglycerides, fasting blood glucose, and low-density lipoprotein cholesterol. Here, the circulating RBP4 level was not independently related to the comorbidity of periodontitis and obesity, while serum visfatin was significantly associated with periodontitis and obesity. Notably, the positive association between circulating RBP4/visfatin and the periodontal parameters/metabolic parameters firmly suggested that the higher severity of the obese or periodontal status was associated with an elevated level of serum visfatin or RBP4 in the OP group. With more rigorous longitudinal research, the exact causations between RBP4/visfatin and the patients affected by obesity and periodontitis could be disentangled. RBP4 and visfatin might be novel, enlightening prospective bio-indexes for the targeted treatment of comorbidities.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Frozen storage often leads to quality deterioration of surimi-based products. At present, most of the research focuses on improving the quality of surimi products by adding cryoprotectants, and there are few studies available on preparation technology. Therefore, the effects of different gelation-freezing treatments, high temperature heating-freezing treatment (HF), low temperature heating-high temperature heating-freezing treatment (LHF) and low temperature heating-freezing-high temperature heating treatment (LFH) on the quality changes of surimi gels containing hydroxypropyl distarch phosphate (HPDSP) during frozen storage were investigated. RESULTS With the extension of frozen storage time, the quality of surimi gel in all groups decreased, but the quality of surimi gel with HPDSP was better than that of surimi gel without HPDSP. Compared with HF and LHF, the change range of breaking force, hardness, gumminess, whiteness and disulfide bond content of HPDSP-surimi gel treated with LFH was the least during the frozen storage. In the reheating process of LFH, HPDSP could absorb the water lost during freezing. Therefore, the change in the transverse relaxation time of HPDSP-surimi gels treated with LFH was smaller, with more immobile water and less free water and P22 of 96.81% and P23 of 0% at 16 weeks. In addition, the breaking deformation, cohesiveness, resilience, springiness and protein composition of surimi gels with and without HPDSP treated with HF, LHF and LFH did not change significantly during frozen storage. CONCLUSION The combination of LFH and HPDSP could effectively reduce the quality change of surimi gel during frozen storage. © 2023 Society of Chemical Industry.

Abstract
There is a significant comorbidity between obesity and periodontitis, while adipokines are pivotal in the immunoinflammatory process, which may play a role in this special relationship. We aimed to assess the effect of adipokines as mediators in the progression of periodontitis in obese Sprague Dawley rats. Rats were divided into four groups: normal body weight with and without periodontitis and obesity with and without periodontitis. Experimental obesity and periodontitis were induced by a high-fat diet or ligaturing, and the effect was measured using metabolic and micro-computed tomography analysis and histological staining. Compared with the other three groups, the group of periodontitis with obesity (OP) had the heaviest alveolar bone absorption, the largest increase in osteoclasts, the utmost inflammatory cell infiltration and the highest expressions of pro-inflammatory cytokines and nuclear factor-kappa B ligand (RANKL); meanwhile, its expression of the osteogenesis-related gene was the lowest among the four groups. The expressions of leptin, visfatin, resistin, retinol-binding protein 4 (RBP4) and asprosin were upregulated, while adiponectin was decreased significantly in OP. The strong positive associations between the periodontal or circulating levels of RBP4 (or asprosin) and the degree of alveolar resorption in experimental periodontitis and obese rats were revealed. The upregulated expression of inflammation biomarkers, the corresponding degradation in connective tissue and the generation of osteoclasts in periodontitis were activated and exacerbated in obesity. The elevated level of RBP4/asprosin may contribute to a more severe periodontal inflammatory state in obese rats.

Abstract
Advances in nanotechnology have facilitated the exploration of submicron thermal transport. At this scale, Fourier's law is no longer applicable, and the governing equation for thermal transport is the phonon Boltzmann transport equation (BTE). However, the availability of open-source solvers for the phonon BTE is limited, impeding progress in this field. This study introduces an open-source package, GiftBTE, for numerically solving the non-gray phonon BTE. GiftBTE employs deterministic solutions and provides both steady-state and transient solvers. For the steady-state solver, GiftBTE employs the implicit discrete ordinates method (DOM) with second-order spatial accuracy and the synthetic iterative scheme. For the transient solver, GiftBTE employs the explicit DOM with second-order spatial accuracy. This package demonstrates excellent computational efficiency, enabling realistic three-dimensional simulations of devices and materials. By interfacing with first-principles calculations, this solver enables parameter-free computation of submicron thermal transport. The application of GiftBTE includes, but is not limited to, computing the thermal conductivity of nanostructures, predicting temperature rises in transistors, and simulating laser heating processes.

Abstract
Phosphorylated fish gelatin (PFG) exhibited preferable physical and chemical properties than fish gelatin (FG) in our previous study. To investigate the application values of PFG, the effects of different ratios (2:1, 1:1 and 1:2) of FG(PFG)/κ carrageenan (κC) on the quality of jelly gels (JGs) were investigated. The sensory quality of PFG:κC (1:2)/FG:κC (1:2) was found to be superior based on sensory evaluations, which was also verified with the results for texture, rheology, etc. Moreover, the structural changes in JGs were related to the introduction of phosphoric acid groups into the molecular chain of gelatin and the protein-polysaccharide interactions. According to the storage results, PFG jelly had better storage quality, higher hardness and chewiness values than those of FG jelly. High-throughput sequencing of JG microbial analysis showed that the addition of PFG changed the amount of microorganisms, microbial species abundance and the microbial composition of JGs, which were also closely related to the storage quality of JGs. In conclusion, the applications of PFG have promising potential to improve the quality of confectionery.

Abstract
BACKGROUND The objective of this systematic review and meta-analysis was to evaluate the effects of non-surgical periodontal therapy (NSPT) on inflammatory-related cytokines/adipocytokines in periodontitis patients with or without obesity. METHODS We followed the preferred reporting items for systematic reviews and meta-analyses statement and registered the study (CRD42022375331) in the Prospective International Register of Systematic Reviews. We screened randomized-controlled trials and controlled clinical trials from six databases up to December 2022. Quality assessment was performed with RoB-2 and ROBINS-I tools for randomized trials and non-randomized trials, respectively. Meta-analysis was carried out using a random-effect model. RESULTS We included seventeen references in the systematic analysis, and sixteen in the meta-analysis. Baseline results of pro-inflammatory biomarkers, including serum interleukin (IL)-6, serum and gingival crevicular fluid (GCF), tumor necrosis factor (TNF)-a, serum C-reactive protein (CRP)/hs-CRP, and serum and GCF resistin, were higher in obesity subjects than in normal weight subjects. The effect of NSPT with respect to levels of cytokines/adipocytokines, including IL-6, TNF-a, CRP/hs-CRP, resistin, adiponectin, leptin and retinol binding protein 4 (RBP4), were then analyzed in the systematic and meta-analysis. After three months of NSPT, serum (MD = -0.54, CI = -0.62 - -0.46), and GCF (MD = -2.70, CI = -4.77 - -0.63) levels of IL-6, along with the serum RBP4 (MD = -0.39, CI = -0.68-0.10) decreased in periodontitis individuals with obesity. NSPT also improved GCF adiponectin levels after three months (MD = 2.37, CI = 0.29 - 4.45) in periodontitis individuals without obesity. CONCLUSIONS Obese status altered the baseline levels of cytokines/adipocytokines (serum IL-6, serum and GCF TNF-a, serum CRP/hs-CRP, and serum and GCF resistin). Then NSPT can shift the levels of specific pro-inflammatory mediators and anti-inflammatory mediators in biological fluids, both in obesity and non-obesity individuals. NSPT can reduce serum and GCF IL-6 levels together with serum RBP4 level in individuals with obesity after 3 months, besides, there is no sufficient evidence to prove that obese patients have a statistically significant decrease in the levels of other cytokines compared to patients with normal weight. NSPT can also increase GCF adiponectin level in normal weight individuals after 3 months. Our findings imply the potential ideal follow-up intervals and sensitive biomarkers for clinical bioanalysis in personalized decision-making of effect of NSPT due to patients' BMI value.

Abstract
Ischemic stroke is a common type of stroke, but effective treatment methods are still imperfect and new effective therapies need to be explored. Radix Aconiti Coreani and Rhizoma Typhonii used as Baifuzi in the treatment of stroke or symptoms associated with stroke have been recorded in ancient Chinese books and are widely used. Modern pharmacological studies have demonstrated that both of them have antioxidant and anti-inflammatory effects. The purpose of this study is to investigate whether Radix Aconiti Coreani and Rhizoma Typhonii have therapeutical effects on gerbils with ischemic stroke, to investigate their potential mechanisms of action, and to provide a reference for rational clinical application by comparing the differences between them. In this manuscript, the right unilateral ligation of the carotid artery of gerbils was used to cause an ischemic stroke model. The neurological deficits of gerbils in each group were scored by Longa scale. The area of cerebral infarction was detected by 2,3,5-tribenzotetrazolchloride staining. The levels of inflammatory factors, oxidative stress indexes, and vascular endothelial function indexes in brain homogenate and serum were determined by ELISA. The expression levels of P-Akt PI3K, HO-1, and KEAP1 proteins in brain tissue were determined by Western blot. Immunofluorescence staining was used to observe the recovery of neuronal cells in the hippocampal CA1 region of the gerbil brain tissue and the expression of proteins related to PI3K/Akt and KEAP1/Nrf2 signaling pathways in neuronal cells in the hippocampal CA1 region. It was found that Radix Aconiti Coreani and Rhizoma Typhonii could improve neurological deficits and reduce cerebral infarction rate in gerbils. The results showed that Radix Aconiti Coreani and Rhizoma Typhonii could significantly decrease the expression of inflammatory factors, increase the expression of antioxidative stress indexes and vascular endothelial function factors, activate the PI3K/Akt, KEAP1/Nrf2 signaling pathway, reduce the inflammatory response, inhibit the oxidative stress, enhance the vascular endothelial cell function, and thus protect against ischemic brain injury. From the experimental results, both Radix Aconiti Coreani and Rhizoma Typhonii had neuroprotective effects on ischemic brain injury. Compared with Rhizoma Typhonii, the effects of Radix Aconiti Coreani on anti-inflammatory and antioxidative stress were more significant, while Rhizoma Typhonii had showed more significant effects in promoting angiogenesis after ischemic stroke by increasing the level of NO.

Abstract
To examine the sulfate assimilation and reduction process and the regulation of illumination, diatom Phaeodactylum tricornutum and dinoflagellate Amphidinium carterae were selected for continuous simulation incubation under different photon flux densities (PFDs) (54, 108 and 162 μmol photons m-2 s-1), and concentration variations of related sulfur compounds sulfate, dimethylsulfoniopropionate (DMSP), dimethylsulfide (DMS) and acrylic acid (AA) in the culture system were observed. The optimal PFD for the growth of two microalgae was 108 μmol photons m-2 s-1. However, the maximum sulfate absorption occurred at 162 μmol photons m-2 s-1 for P. tricornutum and at 54 μmol photons m-2 s-1 for A. carterae. With the increase of PFD, the release of DMSP by P. tricornutum decreased while A. carterae increased. The largest release amount of DMS was 0.59 ± 0.05 fmol cells-1 for P. tricornutum and 2.61 ± 0.89 fmol cells-1 for A. carterae under their optimum growth light condition. The sulfate uptake of P. tricornutum was inhibited by the addition of amino acids, cysteine had a greater inhibitory effect than methionine, and the absorption process was controlled by light. The intermediate products of sulfur metabolism had an up-control effect on the sulfate uptake process of P. tricornutum. However, the addition of amino acids had no obvious effect on the sulfate absorption of A. carterae.

Abstract
Background: The aim of this study was to explore whether the Lung Immune Prognostic Index (LIPI) is associated with clinical outcomes in patients with metastatic gastric cancer (MGC) treated with anti-PD-1 and chemotherapy. Methods: Patients with MGC treated with an anti-PD-1 therapy or chemotherapy were enrolled. This study was composed of two cohorts including 266 patients in the anti-PD-1-treated group and 139 patients in the chemotherapy-treated group. Results: Patients treated with anti-PD-1 therapy that also showed a good LIPI showed a longer median progression-free survival and median overall survival in patients with an intermediate or poor LIPI. These outcomes were not observed in the chemotherapy cohort. Conclusion: Good LIPI correlated with better outcomes for patients with MGC in the anti-PD-1-treated group but not in the chemotherapy-treated group.

Abstract
Objective The study investigates the mechanical properties of a nickel-titanium shape memory alloy anal fistula clip (NiTi-AFC), studies the surgical method of treating anal fistula, and evaluates its clinical efficacy. Methods The anal fistula clip was formed in nickel-titanium alloy with a titanium content of 50.0%-51.8%. The mechanical properties and chemical properties were tested. A total of 31 patients with anal fistula were enrolled between 1 January 2020 and 1 January 2023. All patients underwent internal orifice closure surgery using NiTi-AFC, and anorectal magnetic resonance or ultrasound was performed before surgery and 6 months after surgery for diagnosis and evaluation. Fistula cure rates, length of stay, perianal pain, and Wexner incontinence scores were retrospectively compared between patients treated with NiTi-AFC and patients treated with other surgical methods. Result NiTi-AFC has a density of 6.44-6.50 g·cm-3, with a shape-restoring force of 63.8 N. The corrosion rate of NiTi-AFC in 0.05% hydrochloric acid solution at atmospheric pressure and 20°C is approximately 6.8 × 10-5 g·(m·h)-1. A total of 31 patients (male/female: 19/12, age: 43.7 ± 17.8 years) were included. Among them, 22.6% (7) had multiple anal fistula, 16.1% (5) had high anal fistula, and 48.3% (15) had perianal fistula Crohn's disease. In total, 12.9% (4/31) did not achieve primary healing, underwent fistula resection, and eventually recovered. A retrospective analysis showed that the fistula healing rate, length of stay, and anal pain of NiTi-AFC treatment were similar to those of other traditional surgeries, but the Wexner incontinence score was significantly lower. Conclusion NiTi-AFC has shape memory properties, corrosion resistance, superelastic effect, and surface cell adhesion. It is applied to internal orifice closure surgery of anal fistula, with good therapeutic effect, and can protect the anal function.

Abstract
Cadmium (Cd) is a carcinogenic environmental pollutant that harms male reproductive systems by lowering sperm quality, impairing spermatogenesis, and causing apoptosis. Although zinc (Zn) has been reported to alleviate Cd toxicity, the underlying mechanisms have not been fully elucidated. The aim of this work was to investigate the mitigating effects of Zn on Cd-induced male reproductive toxicity in the freshwater crab Sinopotamon henanense. Cd exposure not only resulted in its accumulation but also in Zn deficiency, decreased sperm survival rate, poor sperm quality, altered ultrastructure, and increased apoptosis in the testis of the crabs. Morever, Cd exposure increased the expression and distribution of metallothionein (MT) in the testis. However, Zn supplementation effectively mitigated the aforementioned effects of Cd, as demonstrated by preventing Cd accumulation, increasing Zn bioavailability, alleviating apoptosis, increasing mitochondrial membrane potential, decreasing reactive oxygen species (ROS) levels, and restoring MT distribution. Moreover, Zn also significantly reduced the expression of apoptosis-related (p53, Bax, CytC, Apaf-1, Caspase-9, Caspase-3), metal transporter-related ZnT1, metal-responsive transcription factor 1 (MTF1), and the gene and protein expression of MT, while increasing the expression of ZIP1 and Bcl-2 in the testis of Cd-treated crabs. In conclusion, Zn alleviates Cd-induced reproductive toxicity via regulating ion homeostasis, MT expression, and inhibiting mitochondria-mediated apoptosis in the testis of S. henanense. The information obtained in this study may serve as the foundation for further investigation into the development of mitigation strategies for adverse ecological and human health outcomes associated with Cd contamination or poisoning.

Abstract
AIMS Development and rollout of vaccines offers the best opportunity for population protection against the SARS-CoV-2 (COVID-19) virus. However, hesitancy towards the vaccines might impede successful uptake in the United Kingdom, particularly in young adults who demonstrate the highest rates of hesitancy. This prospective study explored COVID-19 vaccine hesitancy in young adults and whether the reasons behind these attitudes changed during the initial stages of the United Kingdom's vaccine rollout. METHOD Data on vaccination intention were collected from a British university student cohort at three time points: October 2020, February 2021, and March 2021. This online survey included items on intention to receive a vaccine and a free-text response for the reasons behind this intention. Cochran's Q tests examined changes in rates of hesitancy and acceptance over time and free-text responses were analysed thematically. RESULTS At baseline, 893 students provided data, with 476 participants completing all three time points. Hesitancy declined over time, with 29.4% of participants expressing hesitancy at baseline, reducing to 9.1% at wave 2 and 5.9% at wave 3. The most commonly endorsed themes for those willing to accept a vaccine were self-protection against COVID-19 and pro-social reasons, including protecting the population or unspecific others, and ending the pandemic/returning to normal life. The most commonly endorsed hesitancy themes related to 'confidence' in the vaccines and potential personal risk, including insufficient testing/scientific evidence, concern about side effects, and long-term effects. These reasons remained the most commonly endorsed at both waves 2 and 3. CONCLUSIONS While a decline in hesitancy was observed over time, the key reasons behind both vaccine acceptance and hesitancy remained consistent. Reasons behind hesitancy aligned with those of the general public, providing support for the use of generalist interventions. Pro-social reasons frequently underpinned vaccine acceptance, so cohort-specific interventions targeting those factors may be of benefit.

Abstract
Strongly correlated electron materials harbor interesting materials physics, such as high-Tc superconductivity, colossal magnetoresistance, and metal-insulator transition. These physical properties can be greatly influenced by the dimensionality and geometry of the hosting materials and their interaction strengths with underlying substrates. In a classic strongly correlated oxide vanadium sesquioxide (V2O3), the coexistence of a metal-insulator and paramagnetic-antiferromagnetic transitions at ∼150 K makes this material an excellent platform for exploring basic physics and developing future devices. So far, most studies have been focused on epitaxial thin films in which the strongly coupled substrate has a pronounced effect on V2O3, leading to the observations of intriguing phenomena and physics. In this work, we unveil the kinetics of a metal-insulator transition of V2O3 single-crystal sheets at nano and micro scales. We show the presence of triangle-like alternating metal/insulator phase patterns during phase transition, which is drastically different from the epitaxial film. The observation of single-stage metal-insulator transition in V2O3/graphene compared to the multistage in V2O3/SiO2 evidence the importance of sheet-substrate coupling. Harnessing the freestanding form of the V2O3 sheet, we show that the phase transition of V2O3 sheet can generate a large dynamic strain to monolayer MoS2 and tune its optical property based on the MoS2/V2O3 hybrid structure. The demonstration of the capability in tuning phase transition kinetics and phase patterns using designed hybrid structure of varied sheet-substrate coupling strengths suggests an effective knob in the design and operation of emerging Mott devices.

Abstract
In our previous work, a recombinant aflatoxin-degrading enzyme derived from Myxococcus fulvus (MADE) was reported. However, the low thermal stability of the enzyme had limitations for its use in industrial applications. In this study, we obtained an improved variant of recombinant MADE (rMADE) with enhanced thermostability and catalytic activity using error-prone PCR. Firstly, we constructed a mutant library containing over 5000 individual mutants. Three mutants with T50 values higher than the wild-type rMADE by 16.5 °C (rMADE-1124), 6.5 °C (rMADE-1795), and 9.8 °C (rMADE-2848) were screened by a high-throughput screening method. Additionally, the catalytic activity of rMADE-1795 and rMADE-2848 was improved by 81.5% and 67.7%, respectively, compared to the wild-type. Moreover, structural analysis revealed that replacement of acidic amino acids with basic amino acids by a mutation (D114H) in rMADE-2848 increased the polar interactions with surrounding residues and resulted in a threefold increase in the t1/2 value of the enzyme and made it more thermaltolerate. KEY POINTS: • Mutant libraries construction of a new aflatoxins degrading enzyme by error-prone PCR. • D114H/N295D mutant improved enzyme activity and thermostability. • The first reported enhanced thermostability of aflatoxins degrading enzyme better for its application.

Abstract
BACKGROUND To investigate the association between clinical periodontal parameters of periodontitis, serum lipid metabolism markers and adipokines' levels in patients with obesity and periodontitis. METHODS A total of 112 patients admitted to Hospital of Xi'an Jiaotong University were included in this study. They were divided into normal body weight group (18.5 < body mass index, BMI < 25, n = 36), overweight group (25 ≤ BMI < 30, n = 38), and obesity group (BMI ≥ 30, n = 38) accordingly. The diagnosis of periodontitis was based on the newest international classification of periodontitis. Full-mouth clinical periodontal measurements included: plaque index, periodontal pocket depth, clinical attachment level, and bleeding on probing. Gingival crevicular fluid samples were analyzed for: Interleukin-1β, tumor necrosis factor-α, Interleukin-6 and C-reactive protein. Serum triglycerides, total cholesterol, low density lipoprotein cholesterol, high density lipoprotein cholesterol and glycosylated hemoglobin levels were measured. Visfatin, leptin, resistin, and adiponectin levels in serum were also measured. RESULTS The ratio of participants without periodontitis was significantly highest in normal weight group, and the proportion of severe periodontitis (stage III and IV) was highest in obesity group. The periodontal pocket depth, clinical attachment level, and the inflammatory cytokines in gingival crevicular fluid in obesity group and overweight group were higher than those in normal body weight group. The BMI and waist-to-hip ratio (WHR) were significantly positive correlated with periodontal pocket depth and clinical attachment level. Using a Multivariate logistic regression model, periodontitis correlates to BMI, WHR, serum levels of triglyceride, total cholesterol, low density lipoprotein, and adipokines such as visfatin, leptin, and resistin. CONCLUSIONS Obesity is positively correlated with the aggravation of periodontitis. Obesity may aggravate the damage to periodontal tissue by regulating the secretion level of adipokines.

Abstract
We survey 62 users of a university asymptomatic SARS-CoV-2 testing service on details of their activities, protective behaviours and contacts in the 7 days prior to receiving a positive or negative SARS-CoV-2 PCR test result in the period October 2020-March 2021. The resulting data set is novel in capturing very detailed social contact history linked to asymptomatic disease status during a period of significant restriction on social activities. We use this data to explore 3 questions: (i) Did participation in university activities enhance infection risk? (ii) How do contact definitions rank in their ability to explain test outcome during periods of social restrictions? (iii) Do patterns in the protective behaviours help explain discrepancies between the explanatory performance of different contact measures? We classify activities into settings and use Bayesian logistic regression to model test outcome, computing posterior model probabilities to compare the performance of models adopting different contact definitions. Associations between protective behaviours, participant characteristics and setting are explored at the level of individual activities using multiple correspondence analysis (MCA). We find that participation in air travel or non-university work activities was associated with a positive asymptomatic SARS-CoV-2 PCR test, in contrast to participation in research and teaching settings. Intriguingly, logistic regression models with binary measures of contact in a setting performed better than more traditional contact numbers or person contact hours (PCH). The MCA indicates that patterns of protective behaviours vary between setting, in a manner which may help explain the preference for any participation as a contact measure. We conclude that linked PCR testing and social contact data can in principle be used to test the utility of contact definitions, and the investigation of contact definitions in larger linked studies is warranted to ensure contact data can capture environmental and social factors influencing transmission risk.

Abstract
This study provides a novel method of preparing lotus seed starch nanocrystals (LS-SNCs) using acid hydrolysis combined with ultrasonic-assisted acid hydrolysis (U-LS-SNCs) and evaluates the structural characteristics of starch nanocrystals using scanning electron microscopy; analysis of particle size, molecular weight, and X-ray diffraction patterns; and FT-IR spectroscopy. The results showed that the preparation time of U-LS-SNCs could be reduced to 2 days less than that for LS-SNCs. The smallest particle size and molecular weight were obtained after a 30 min treatment with 200 W of ultrasonic power and 5 days of acid hydrolysis. The particle size was 147 nm, the weight-average molecular weight was 3.42 × 104 Da, and the number-average molecular weight was 1.59 × 104 Da. When the applied ultrasonic power was 150 W for 30 min and acid hydrolysis was applied for 3 days, the highest relative crystallinity of the starch nanocrystals was 52.8%. The modified nanocrystals can be more widely used in various applications such as food-packaging materials, fillers, pharmaceuticals, etc.

Abstract
A continuous polyglycolic acid (PGA) fiber-reinforced polylactic acid (PLA) degradable composite was proposed for application in biodegradable load-bearing bone implant. The fused deposition modeling (FDM) process was used to fabricate composite specimens. The influences of the printing process parameters, such as layer thickness, printing spacing, printing speed, and filament feeding speed on the mechanical properties of the PGA fiber-reinforced PLA composites, were studied. The thermal properties of the PGA fiber and PLA matrix were investigated by using differential scanning calorimetry (DSC) and thermogravimetric analysis (TGA). The internal defects of the as-fabricated specimens were characterized by the micro-X- ray 3D imaging system. During the tensile experiment, a full-field strain measurement system was used to detect the strain map and analysis the fracture mode of the specimens. A digital microscope and field emission electron scanning microscopy were used to observe the interface bonding between fiber and matrix and fracture morphologies of the specimens. The experimental results showed that the tensile strength of specimens was related to their fiber content and porosity. The printing layer thickness and printing spacing had significant impacts on the fiber content. The printing speed did not affect the fiber content but had a slight effect on the tensile strength. Reducing the printing spacing and layer thickness could increase the fiber content. The tensile strength (along the fiber direction) of the specimen with 77.8% fiber content and 1.82% porosity was the highest, reaching 209.32 ± 8.37 MPa, which is higher than the tensile strength of the cortical bone and polyether ether ketone (PEEK), indicating that the continuous PGA fiber-reinforced PLA composite has great potential in the manufacture of biodegradable load-bearing bone implants.

Abstract
BACKGROUND AND OBJECTIVES Patients with congenital lung malformations (CLMs) are at high risk for developing pulmonary infection. Nonetheless, prophylactic surgical excision of asymptomatic CLMs is controversial and often delayed to symptoms occurring out of concern for potential operative risks. This study aims to evaluate the impact of previous pulmonary infection on the outcome of thoracoscopic procedures in CLMs patients. METHODS This was a retrospective cohort study of CLMs patients who received an elective operation at a tertiary care center from 2015 to 2019. Patients were divided into pulmonary infection (PI) or non-infection of pulmonary (NPI) groups according to the history of pulmonary infection. Propensity score matching was used to minimize the bias between groups. The primary outcome was conversion to thoracotomy. Postoperative outcomes were compared between patients with and without PI. RESULTS We identified 464 patients, of whom 101 had a history of PI. Propensity score matching yielded a well-balanced cohort of 174 patients. PI was associated with higher conversion to thoracotomy (adjusted odds ratio = 8.7, 95% confidence interval, CI, 1.1-71.2, p = 0.039), blood loss (p = 0.044), and longer operative time (p < 0.001), chest tube placement time (p < 0.001), length of stay (p < 0.001), and postsurgical length of stay (p < 0.001). CONCLUSIONS Elective operation in CLMs patients with a history of PI was associated with an increased risk of conversion to thoracotomy, operative time, blood loss, chest tube placement time, length of stay, and postsurgical length of stay. Elective thoracoscopic procedures in asymptomatic CLMs patients are safe and effective, and earlier surgical intervention may be warranted.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Changes in the physicochemical properties of shrimp meat treated with two-stage heating were investigated. Currently, shrimp products in the processing process are susceptible to uneven dehydration, shrimp meat shrinkage, which results in rough and hard texture, poor chewiness, and seriously affects the edible quality as well as economic benefits. Improving the utilization value of shrimp resources, expanding its market shares, optimizing the tenderness of shrimp is the key to developing new types of fresh and ready-to-eat shrimp products. RESULTS The results indicated that preheating at 30 °C could not affect the quality of shrimp meat significantly (P > 0.05). As the preheating temperature increased from 40 °C to 50 °C, the hardness and shear force of shrimp meat decreased due to the exposure of protein hydrophobic groups, protein aggregation and degradation, muscle fraction broken, and weight loss increase. Further increase in preheating temperature would lead to further aggregation and gelation of proteins, causing hardness and shear force increase. Besides, the results of microstructure showed that preheating at 40 °C and 50 °C could cause the shrimp muscles to become loose. CONCLUSION This study showed that the preheating temperature ranging from 40 °C to 50 °C could effectively improve the tenderness of shrimp meat. This study might be useful for developing tenderized shrimp products in the future. © 2022 Society of Chemical Industry.

Abstract
Spodoptera frugiperda (Lepidoptera: Noctuidae), a pest with an amazing appetite, damages many crops and causes great losses, especially maize. Understanding the differences in different maize cultivars' responses to S. frugiperda infestation is very important for revealing the mechanisms involved in the resistance of maize plants to S. frugiperda. In this study, a comparative analysis of two maize cultivars, the common cultivar 'ZD958' and the sweet cultivar 'JG218', was used to investigate their physico-biochemical responses to S. frugiperda infestation by a pot experiment. The results showed that the enzymatic and non-enzymatic defense responses of maize seedlings were rapidly induced by S. frugiperda. Frist, the hydrogen peroxide (H2O2) and malondialdehyde (MDA) contents of infested maize leaves were significantly increased and then decreased to the level of the control. Furthermore, compared with the control leaves, the puncture force values and the total phenolics, total flavonoids, and 2,4-dihydroxy-7-methoxy-1,4-benzoxazin-3-one contents of infested leaves were significantly increased within a certain time. The superoxide dismutase and peroxidase activities of infested leaves were significantly increased in a certain period of time, while the catalase activities decreased significantly and then increased to the control level. The jasmonic acid (JA) levels of infested leaves were significantly improved, whereas the salicylic acid and abscisic acid levels changed less. Signaling genes associated with phytohormones and defensive substances including PAL4, CHS6, BX12, LOX1, and NCED9 were significantly induced at certain time points, especially LOX1. Most of these parameters changed greater in JG218 than in ZD958. Moreover, the larvae bioassay showed that S. frugiperda larvae weighed more on JG218 leaves than those on ZD958 leaves. These results suggested that JG218 was more susceptible to S. frugiperda than ZD958. Our findings will make it easier to develop strategies for controlling S. frugiperda for sustainable maize production and breeding of new maize cultivars with increased resistance to herbivores.

Abstract
Neutrophils act as a "double-edged sword" in the tumor microenvironment (TME) by either supporting or suppressing tumor progression. Thus, eliciting a neutrophil antitumor response remains challenging. Here, we showed that tumor cell-derived microparticles induced by methotrexate (MTX-MP) acts as an immunotherapeutic agent to activate neutrophils, increasing the tumor-killing effect of the cells and augmenting T-cell antitumor responses. We found that lactate induced tumor-associated neutrophils (TANs) to elevate expression of PD-1 and that PD-1+ neutrophils had the properties of N2 neutrophils and suppressed T-cell activation through PD-1/PD-L1 signaling. By performing ex vivo experiments, we found that MTX-MPs-activated neutrophils had reduced surface expression of PD-1 as a result of PD-1 internalization and degradation in the lysosomes, leading to the cells showing a decreased capacity to suppress T-cell responses. In addition, we also found that MTX-MP-activated neutrophils released neutrophil elastase which could kill tumor cells and disrupt tumor stroma, leading to increased T-cell infiltration. Furthermore, using a combination of anti-PD-L1 and MTX-MPs, we observed that long-term survival increased in a mouse model of lung cancer. Collectively, these findings highlight the potential use of a combination of anti-PD-L1 and MTX-MPs to enhance the therapeutic effect of anti-PD-L1 alone.

Abstract
The yield of squid has grown gradually; however, the lack of intensive processing has led to the slow development of the squid industry. In a previous study, some organic salts were found to improve the quality of squid surimi gel. Therefore, this research focused on the effects of sodium citrate (SC) and sodium tartrate (ST) on the quality of squid surimi gel. Physical measurements, such as gel texture, water-holding capacity, and color of squid surimi gel, were conducted. The addition of 2.5% SC and ST significantly improved the gel strength by 40.7, 57.0, 22.9, and 58.1%, respectively, of gel strength compared with the addition of: 1.5 SC, 3.5 SC, 1.5 ST, and 3.5% ST alone. Rheological measurements revealed that the addition of 2.5% SC or ST shortened the gel degradation temperature range (i.e., 2.5% SC or ST: 40-53°C; other treatments: 40-60°C) of the squid paste during heating. Results of chemical force analysis showed that the addition of a high quantity of salt accelerated protein aggregation and reduced hydrophobic interactions and disulfide bond formation. Finally, an increase in the number of β-sheets and a decrease in the bulk water content demonstrated that the addition of 2.5% organic salt could form squid gel with a better network structure. The findings provide a scientific basis for the development of high-quality squid surimi gel.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE This study aimed to compare the efficacy and safety of focused ultrasound (FU) at different focal depths in treating vulvar lichen sclerosus (VLS). METHODS A retrospective study was conducted on 84 patients with VLS. Among them, 43 cases were treated with FU at a focal depth of 2.5 mm and 41 cases at a focal depth of 4.0 mm. Therapeutic time, treatment energy, postoperative efficacy, complications and recurrence rates were compared. RESULTS No statistically substantially differences in age, disease course, history of immune system diseases, lesion size and severity of symptoms were found between the two groups. All patients successfully received FU therapy. No significant difference in curative rate was observed between the two groups at 3, 6 and 12 months after FU therapy. At 12 months after FU therapy, the recurrence rate of the experimental group (FU treatment at 2.5 mm focal depth) was lower than the control group (FU treatment at 4.0 mm focal depth) (7.0% vs 24.4%, p = 0.027). The experimental group was treated for a shorter period of time [22.69 ± 0.64 (min) vs 24.93 ± 0.72(min), p = 0.022] and at a lower dose[5,026.05 ± 148.00(J) vs 5,484.26 ± 160.60(J) p = 0.039]. CONCLUSION Compared with that at the routine focal depth (4.0 mm), FU therapy at a low treatment depth (2.5 mm) can achieve a similar therapeutic effect but lower recurrence rate, therapeutic time and treatment energy. This work provides insight into the optimization of clinical protocols.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Research suggests that psychological factors may influence vulnerability to SARS-CoV-2 infection, although the mechanisms are unclear. PURPOSE We examined whether the hypothalamic-pituitary-adrenal axis may be a possible mechanism, by measuring the relationship between indices of psychological distress and cortisone in hair (hairE) in a UK cohort during the COVID-19 pandemic. METHODS Participants (N = 827) provided two 3 cm hair samples over a 6-month period between April-September 2020. Samples reflected hairE in the 3 months prior to the collection date. RESULTS HairE in the first samples (T1: commenced April 2020) did not differ significantly from pre-pandemic population norms. However, hairE in the second samples (T2: commenced July 2020) were significantly higher than T1 and pre-pandemic population norms, with a 23% increase between T1 and T2. Linear regressions, controlling for age and gender, demonstrated that at both timepoints, hairE levels were greatest in people with a history of mental health difficulties. In addition, stress reported at T1 predicted greater hairE at T2 and a greater change in hairE between T1 and T2. CONCLUSIONS These findings demonstrate that during the COVID-19 pandemic hairE was substantially elevated across a large community cohort, with greatest levels in those with a history of mental health difficulties and greatest changes in those reporting greatest levels of stress early in the pandemic. Further research is required with verified SARS-CoV-2 outcomes to determine whether the HPA axis is among the mechanisms by which a history of mental health difficulties and stress influence SARS-CoV-2 outcomes.

Abstract
Migratory birds play a critical role in the rapid spread of highly pathogenic avian influenza (HPAI) H5N8 virus clade 2.3.4.4 across Eurasia. Elucidating the timing and pattern of virus transmission is essential therefore for understanding the spatial dissemination of these viruses. In this study, we surveyed >27,000 wild birds in China, tracked the year-round migration patterns of 20 bird species across China since 2006, and generated new HPAI H5N8 virus genomic data. Using this new data set, we investigated the seasonal transmission dynamics of HPAI H5N8 viruses across Eurasia. We found that introductions of HPAI H5N8 viruses to different Eurasian regions were associated with the seasonal migration of wild birds. Moreover, we report a backflow of HPAI H5N8 virus lineages from Europe to Asia, suggesting that Europe acts as both a source and a sink in the global HPAI virus transmission network.

Abstract
The composite material based on N-, S-, and Fe-doped TiO2 (NSFe-TiO2) synthesized by wet impregnation was used as a photocatalyst to rapidly degrade sulfadiazine. The photocatalytic degradation behavior and mechanism of sulfadiazine on NSFe-TiO2 were investigated for revealing the role of degradation under ultraviolet light. The results showed that compared with TiO2, NSFe-TiO2 markedly improved the efficiency in photocatalytic degradation of sulfadiazine: more than 90% of sulfadiazine could be removed within 120 min by NSFe-TiO2 dosage of 20 mg L-1. The process conformed to first-order reaction kinetics model. The parameters such as loaded amount of NSFe-TiO2, solution pH value, humic acid concentration and recycle numbers on removal efficiency were also studied. Compared to neutral and alkaline conditions, acidic condition was not conducive to the photocatalysis. HA, Ca2+, Cu2+ and Zn2+ in the actual water body had mild inhibition on sulfadiazine degradation in UV/NSFe-TiO2 system. Fragments screened by high-resolution mass spectrometry were conducted to explore the oxidation mechanism and pathways of sulfadiazine degradation. On the whole, UV/NSFe-TiO2 photocatalysis has a good effect on sulfadiazine removal. Abstract
Background: Thoracoscopic lobectomy is a challenging procedure in children with congenital lung malformations (CLMs). This study aims to evaluate the safety and efficacy of thoracoscopic clockwise lobectomy (TCL) in CLMs in children and its potential to be a stylized procedure. Methods: All patients with CLMs who received TCL from 2015 to 2019 in our hospital were retrospectively reviewed. Clinical information was extracted from medical records, including patient demographics, operative details, and outcomes. Results: A total of 184 patients with a median age of 6.8 months (range, 3-156) and a median weight of 9 kg (range, 6-45) received TCL. Lesions were all located in the lower lobe and included congenital pulmonary airway malformation (n = 133), intralobar sequestration (n = 44), bronchiectasis (n = 4), and congenital lobar emphysema (n = 3). The mean (±standard deviation [SD]) operating time was 46 ± 7.5 minutes (range, 35-113). The mean (±SD) blood loss was 3.5 ± 0.8 mL (range, 1-60). Three patients converted to thoracotomy, and 162 patients did not have a chest tube placed. The postoperative course was uneventful in all patients except 2 patients who developed air leaks and 23 patients who developed a mild fever. The median length of postoperative hospital stay was 2 days. A total of 163 patients were followed up for more than 1 year without any complications. Conclusion: TCL is suitable for lower lobectomy and is safe and effective in standard and complicated thoracoscopic lobectomy. It could be recommended as a stylized procedure in treating children with CLMs.

Abstract
BACKGROUND There are currently limited systemic treatment options for patients with advanced neuroendocrine tumours (NETS) and the efficacy of existing treatments is sub-optimal. We evaluated the efficacy and safety of Tegafur/gimeracil/oteracil/potassium capsules (S-1)/Temozolomide with or without thalidomide for the treatment of NETS (STEM trial). METHODS A randomised, controlled, open-label, phase 2 trial conducted at eight hospitals in China. Adults (≥18 years) with unresectable/metastatic, pancreatic or non-pancreatic NETS, with an Eastern Cooperative Oncology Group (ECOG) PS of 0-1, and progression on ≤2 previous therapies were randomised (1:1, using hierarchical block randomization with block length 4, stratified by pancreatic/non-pancreatic disease to receive S-1 40-60 mg orally twice daily on days 1-14 plus temozolomide 200 mg orally daily on days 10-14 in a 21-day cycle OR S-1 and temozolomide plus thalidomide orally nightly (100 mg on days 1-7, 200 mg on days 8-14, and 300 mg from day 15), until disease progression, death, intolerable toxicity, withdrawal of informed consent or at the investigator's discretion. The primary endpoint was objective response rate (ORR) by RECIST 1.1 in an intention-to-treat population. Safety was assessed in all patients who received treatment. The study was registered at ClinicalTrials.gov: NCT03204019 (pancreatic group) and NCT03204032 (non-pancreatic group). FINDINGS Between March 23, 2017 and November 16, 2020, 187 patients were screened and 140 were randomly assigned to S-1/temozolomide plus thalidomide (n = 69) or S-1/temozolomide (n =71). After a median follow-up of 12·1 months (IQR: 8·4-16·6), the ORR was comparable in the S-1/temozolomide plus thalidomide and S-1/temozolomide groups 26·1% [95% CI 17·2-37·5] versus 25·4% [95% CI 16·7-36·6]; odds ratio: 1·03 [95% CI 0·48-2·22]; P = 0·9381). In the S-1/temozolomide plus thalidomide group, the most common grade 3-4 treatment-related adverse event was fatigue (2/68, 3%), and in the control group were thrombocytopenia and diarrhea (both 1/71, 2%). There were no treatment-related deaths in either group. INTERPRETATION S-1/temozolomide with or without thalidomide leads to a comparable treatment response in patients with advanced/metastatic NETS. Abstract
The immediate response to the state disturbances of anaerobic digestion is essential to prevent anaerobic digestion failure. However, frequent monitoring of the state and performance of anaerobic digestion is challenging. Thus, deep learning models were investigated to predict the state and performance variables from online sensor data. The online sensor data, including pH, electric conductivity, and oxidation-reduction potential, were used as the input features to build deep learning models. The state and performance data measured offline were used as the labels. The model performance was compared for several deep learning models of convolutional neural network (CNN), long short-term memory (LSTM), dense layer, and their combinations. The combined model of CNN and bidirectional LSTM was robust and well-generalized in predicting the state and performance variables (R2 = 0.978, root mean square error = 0.031). The combined model is an excellent soft sensor for monitoring the state and performance of anaerobic digestion from electrochemical sensors.

Abstract
The 2020 COVID-19 lockdown provides an opportunity to assess how the anthropause affected the behavior of birds. Black-headed gulls (Larus ridibundus) wintering at Dianchi Lake (Yunnan Province, southwestern China) prefer to forage on easily accessible human-provided food at various sites along the lake. Following the closure of the lake because of the pandemic, synthetic food was provided at a single location. We expected that the home range size and distribution of gulls would change in response to these changes in food provisioning. A total of 91 gulls were tagged with satellite transmitters in November 2018 and March 2019, and their movements were tracked during the winter months. We analyzed their home range size and spatial distribution in four periods, SCP2019, SOP2019, SCP2020, and SOP2020 (Scenic Opening/Closing Period in 2019/2020), and the difference between SOP2019 and SCP2019 was used as the control group. The eutrophication level in the wintering periods “Nov. 2018–Apr. 2019” and “Oct. 2019–Apr. 2020” was determined using the Normalized Difference Vegetation Index (NDVI), and the coverage ratio of algal blooms and NDVI were used as indicators of the amount of naturally available food. The home range sizes of gulls were reduced in SCP2020 compared with SOP2019, SCP2019, and SOP2020. The gulls were most abundant in the 600–900 m buffer zone and least abundant in the 0–300 m buffer zone in SCP2019; they were most abundant in the 0–300 m buffer zone and least abundant in the 900–2000 m buffer zone in SCP2020. These patterns were consistent with variation in the NDVI and the coverage ratio of algal blooms among buffer zones. Changes in wintering behaviors in SCP2020 relative to other periods suggested that gulls modified their behavior following anthropause-related changes in the distribution and provisioning of food. Our findings provide insights into the role of behavioral plasticity in mediating adaptation to changes in human activities in birds.

Abstract
This study analyzed the clinical data of children with anorectal malformation (ARM)who underwent surgery from 2006 to 2021, and explored the related factors of postoperative voiding dysfunction (VD).A total of 60 children including 51 males and 9 females, aged 4-15 years, were enrolled. During follow up, normal voiding function were found in 43 cases, VD in 17 cases. It was found that middle to high clinical classification (OR=6.732, 95%CI:1.854-24.443), multiple surgeries (OR=3.712, 95%CI:1.133-12.160), associated spinal deformity (OR=3.297, 95%CI:1.029-10.566) and abnormal postoperative defecation (OR=4.971, 95%CI:1.387-17.816) were the risk factors of VD after ARM (all P<0.05). Urodynamic study and early intervention should be carried out in children with VD after ARM surgery.

Abstract
Residents' health is the basic condition for economic and social development. At present, China's environmental pollution problem is becoming increasingly serious, which not only hinders sustainable economic and social development, but also poses a major threat to public health. Therefore, based on the carbon emissions trading policy implemented in China, this paper explores this policy's impact on residents' health using the DID model and illustrates the moderating effect of environmental pollution. The results show that (1) carbon emissions trading policies can promote the improvement of residents' health; (2) the effect is stronger for western regions and provinces with smaller population sizes after taking control variables into consideration; and (3) environmental pollution has a significant moderating effect on the relationship between carbon emissions trading and residents' health. This research serves as an important reference for expanding the scope of the policy pilot, reducing pollutant emissions, and improving the health of the population.

Abstract
2D Ruddlesden-Popper (RP) halide perovskites with natural multiple quantum well structures are an ideal platform to integrate into vertical heterostructures, which may introduce plentiful intriguing optoelectronic properties that are not accessible in a single bulk crystal. Here, we report liquid-phase van der Waals epitaxy of a 2D RP hybrid perovskite (4,4-DFPD)2PbI4 (4,4-DFPD is 4,4-difluoropiperidinium) on muscovite mica and fabricate a series of perovskite-perovskite vertical heterostructures by integrating it with a second 2D RP perovskite R-NPB [NPB = 1-(1-naphthyl)ethylammonium lead bromide] sheets. The grown (4,4-DFPD)2PbI4 nanobelt array can be multiple layers to unit-cell thin and are crystallographically aligned on the mica substrate. An interlayer photo emission in this R-NPB/(4,4-DFPD)2PbI4 heterostructure with a lifetime of about 25 ns at 120 K has been revealed. Our demonstration of epitaxial (4,4-DFPD)2PbI4 array grown on mica via liquid-phase van der Waals epitaxy provides a paradigm to prepare orderly distributed 2D RP hybrid perovskites for further integration into multiple heterostructures.
