Abstract
Having reasonable outcome measures is essential to unbiased research. For years, provider-measured outcomes have been valued as they are more objective and convenient for investigators. However, with the popularity of patient-centered medical care delivery, patient-reported outcome measures are appropriately becoming more popular in foot and ankle research.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Cough is considered chronic when it lasts for >8 weeks. When no medical explanation can be found it is often called unexplained chronic cough (UCC), which may affect health-related quality of life (HRQOL). This study aimed to assesses the validity and reliability of the Swedish version of the Leicester Cough Questionnaire (LCQ-S) in patients with UCC. METHODS Seventy-six consecutively selected patients with UCC replied to: a local questionnaire; the LCQ-S; a Visual Analog Scale (VAS) for cough; the Swedish version of the Hull Airway Reflux Questionnaire (HARQ-S); and the Chemical Sensitivity Scale for Sensory Hyperreactivity (CSS-SHR). To evaluate the reproducibility of the LCQ-S, the VAS and LCQ-S were answered again after two to four weeks. RESULTS Seventy-four patients (17 men) answered the questionnaires at baseline. Concurrent validity for LCQ-S was regarded as moderate with the VAS for cough and HARQ-S. Internal consistency using Cronbach's alpha was high for the LCQ-S total score (0.92) and satisfactory for the LCQ-S domains (0.78-0.83). Reliability and reproducibility were analysed in 57 patients (14 men). Intra-class correlation for the LCQ-S total score and domains showed strong reliability (≥0.92), without any significant differences over time. The standard error of measurement and the smallest real difference were 1.26 and 3.49, respectively. The Bland-Altman plot showed no systematic change in the mean values. CONCLUSIONS The LCQ-S has good validity and reliability and can be used in clinical settings to evaluate HRQOL in Swedish-speaking adult patients with UCC.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Pruritus, or itch, is a key symptom of atopic dermatitis (AD); as such, mitigating itch is an important outcome of AD treatment. This study explored the content validity and measurement properties of the Pruritus Numeric Rating Scale (Pruritus NRS), a novel single-item scale for assessing itch severity in clinical trials of AD treatments. METHODS In this mixed-methods study, qualitative interviews were conducted with 21 people with moderate-to-severe AD (n = 15 adult, n = 6 adolescent) to develop a conceptual model of the patient experience in AD and explore the content validity of the Pruritus NRS. Data collected daily from adults with moderate-to-severe AD enrolled in a phase 2b study (NCT03443024) were used to assess the Pruritus NRS' psychometric performance, including reliability, construct validity, and responsiveness. Meaningful within-patient change (MWPC) thresholds were also determined using anchor-based methods. RESULTS Qualitative findings highlighted the importance of itch in AD, including severity, persistence, frequency, and daily life interference. Patient debriefing of the Pruritus NRS indicated that the scale was relevant, appropriate, and interpreted as intended. Trial data supported overall good psychometric properties. MWPC was defined as a 3-point improvement in Pruritus NRS score, a finding supported by qualitative data. CONCLUSIONS The Pruritus NRS provides a valid and reliable patient-reported measure of itching severity in patients with moderate-to-severe AD, and can detect change, indicating it is fit-for-purpose to evaluate the efficacy of AD treatments in this population. Abstract
BACKGROUND Hospitalization for ulcerative colitis (UC) is potentially life-threatening. Severe disease in the Japanese criteria which modifies the Truelove-Witts' criteria might encompass more fulminant cases than the definition for acute severe UC. However, few studies have investigated the predictive factors for clinical remission (CR) after medical treatments for severe hospitalized patients by Japanese criteria. METHODS Medical treatment selection, CR rates, and factors contributing to CR on day 14 were assessed in severe patients by Japanese criteria. We also investigated whether the reduction rate in patient-reported outcome 2 (PRO2) on day 3 could predict short-term prognosis. RESULTS Eighty-five severe hospitalized patients were selected. Corticosteroids, tacrolimus, and infliximab were mainly selected as first-line treatments (76/85; 89.4%). The CR rates on day 14 were 26.8%, 21.4%, and 33.3% in patients receiving corticosteroids, tacrolimus, and infliximab, respectively. Extensive disease (odds ratio [OR] 0.022; 95% confidence interval [CI] 0.002-0.198), higher PRO2 (OR 0.306; 95% CI 0.144-0.821), and higher reduction rate in PRO2 on day 3 (OR 1.047; 95% CI 1.019-1.075) were independent factors predicting CR on day 14. If the cutoff value for the reduction rate in PRO2 on day 3 was 18.3%, sensitivity was 0.714 and specificity was 0.731 to predict CR on day 14. A higher reduction rate in PRO2 on day 3 (OR 0.922; 95% CI 0.853-0.995) was a negative factor to predict surgery within 28 days. CONCLUSIONS Tacrolimus and infliximab in addition to corticosteroids were used as first-line treatment in severe hospitalized patients. PRO2 on day 3 is a useful marker for switching to second-line therapy or colectomy.

Abstract
Aims/introduction Psychosocial aspects and the quality of life (QOL) of individuals with diabetes are important for achieving glycemic control and treatment goals. Here, we describe patient-reported outcomes (PROs) of Japanese adults with type 1 diabetes (T1D) and evaluate the association thereof with glycemic control. Materials and methods This subanalysis of a subgroup of 528 Japanese participants in the SAGE study of adults with T1D used data on glycosylated hemoglobin (HbA1c) and PRO scores [Hypoglycemia Fear Survey-II (HFS-II), Problem Areas In Diabetes (PAID), Insulin Treatment Satisfaction Questionnaire (ITSQ), and Audit of Diabetes-Dependent QOL (ADDQoL)] and summarized the score by the predefined age groups (26-44-years: n = 208, 45-64-years: n = 217, and ≥ 65-years: n = 103). The association between PROs, achieving HbA1c < 7.0%, and individualized targets was explored using multivariate logistic regression analysis. Results The HFS-II and PAID scores were lower, and the ITSQ score was higher in the ≥ 65-years group than in the younger groups with a linear trend of better scores with increasing age (P for trend < 0.05). ADDQoL scores were similar across the age groups, and present QOL (ADDQoL subscale) tended to improve with age (P for trend < 0.05). Achieving HbA1c < 7.0% and individualized targets were associated with satisfaction with insulin treatment regarding glycemic control. Conclusion In Japanese adults with T1D, the impact on psychosocial aspects and QOL varied across age groups, with a trend of improving scores with age, potentially in relation to the less stringent glycemic control targets adopted in older individuals. Abstract
INTRODUCTION Glucocorticoids (GCs) are associated with multiple toxicities that have substantial impact on patients. We conducted qualitative interviews with patients to identify the toxicities that are most relevant from their perspective, with the goal of creating a patient-reported companion measure to the Glucocorticoid Toxicity Index (GTI), a clinician-facing instrument. METHODS Thirty-one patients with recent or current GC use participated in concept elicitation interviews. Participants received GC treatment for myasthenia gravis, chronic inflammatory demyelinating polyradiculoneuropathy, vasculitis, or systemic lupus erythematosus. Transcripts were coded following a thematic analysis approach. RESULTS Participants reported more than 100 toxicities they believed to be associated with their GC medications. Common toxicities included weight gain (87%), increased appetite (84%), insomnia/sleep problems (77%), cognitive impairment/brain fog (71%), easy bruising (68%), anxiety (65%), irritability/short temper (65%), and osteoporosis (39%). These toxicities often centered on self-esteem, neuropsychiatric effects, skin toxicities, and musculoskeletal function. They can be categorized into domains such emphasizing neuropsychiatric, metabolic/endocrine, musculoskeletal, and dermatological effects, highlighting aspects of GC toxicity that patients are uniquely positioned to appreciate and report. CONCLUSION Our results confirm that the toxicities associated with GCs are pervasive and diverse, with substantial impact on patients' lives. These data will be used to inform the development of a patient-reported outcome measure assessing GC toxicity. This patient-reported instrument will be designed to complement the clinician-reported GTI, facilitating a more detailed understanding of the nuances of change in GC toxicity.

Abstract
BACKGROUND There is increased emphasis on incorporating patient perspectives and patient-relevant endpoints in drug development. We developed a conceptual model of the impact of chronic hepatitis B (CHB) on patients' lives and evaluated the content validity of the Hepatitis B Quality of Life (HBQOL) instrument, a patient-reported outcome tool for use in clinical studies, as a patient-relevant endpoint to measure health-related quality of life in patients with CHB. METHODS A literature review of qualitative studies of patient experience with CHB and concept elicitation telephone interviews with patients with CHB in the United Kingdom were used to develop a conceptual model of the experience and impact of living with CHB. The content validity of the HBQOL was evaluated using cognitive debriefing techniques. RESULTS The qualitative literature review (N = 43 publications) showed that patients with CHB experience emotional/psychological impacts. During concept elicitation interviews (N = 24), fatigue was the most commonly reported symptom, and most participants were worried/anxious about virus transmission and disease progression/death. A conceptual model of patients' experiences with CHB was developed. The conceptual relevance and comprehensibility of the HBQOL were supported, though limitations, including the lack of a self-stigma item and recall period, were noted for future improvement. CONCLUSIONS The conceptual model shows that patients with CHB experience emotional/psychological impacts that affect their lifestyles, relationships, and work/schooling. The cognitive debriefing interviews support the content validity of the HBQOL as a conceptually relevant patient-reported outcome measure of health-related quality of life.

Abstract
BACKGROUND In monarchE, abemaciclib demonstrated a sustained benefit in invasive disease-free survival and a tolerable safety profile at 42-months median follow-up. With no expected disease-related symptoms, therapies in the adjuvant setting should preserve quality of life (QoL). With all patients off abemaciclib, we report updated patient-reported outcomes (PROs) for the full 2-year treatment period and follow-up. METHODS Patients completed PROs including FACT-B, FACT-ES, and FACIT-Fatigue at baseline, 3, 6, 12, 18, and 24 months during treatment, and 1, 6, and 12 months after treatment discontinuation. Mixed effects repeated measures model estimated changes from baseline within and between arms for QoL scales and individual items. Meaningful changes were prespecified and no statistical testing was performed. Frequencies of responses to items associated with relevant adverse events and treatment bother were summarized. RESULTS At baseline, completion rates for PRO instruments were >96 %. Mean changes from baseline for all QoL scales were numerically similar within and between arms (ie, less than prespecified thresholds). The same was observed for all individual items, except diarrhea. Within abemaciclib arm, meaningful differences for diarrhea were observed at 3 and 6 months (mean increases of 1.19 and 1.03 points on 5-point scale, respectively). During treatment, most patients in both arms (69-78 %) reported being bothered "a little bit" or "not at all" by side effects. Overall, patterns for fatigue were similar between arms. During post-treatment follow-up, PROs in both arms were similar to baseline. CONCLUSION PRO findings confirm a tolerable and reversible toxicity profile for abemaciclib. QoL was preserved with the addition of adjuvant abemaciclib to endocrine therapy, supporting its use in patients with HR+, HER2-, high-risk early breast cancer.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Accelerometers and patient-reported outcomes (PRO) are used to assess physical activity (PA) in people with multiple sclerosis (pwMS). So far it is unknown, however, whether these assessments represent mobility limitations in pwMS with mild and moderate to severe disability alike. The primary aim of the study was to assess the correlation between accelerometry and International Physical Activity Questionnaire (IPAQ) scores in pwMS with different degrees of ambulatory impairment. Taken its frequent use into account, the Godin Leisure Time Exercise Questionnaire (GLTEQ) was investigated as additional PRO. METHODS In a prospective cohort of pwMS, correlational analyses were performed between the number of daily steps, time spent in light, moderate to vigorous PA (MVPA) and time spent sitting as assessed using accelerometry (ActiGraph®-GT3X), and the respective IPAQ and GLTEQ scores. Additionally, associations of PA with disease-specific characteristics, aerobic capacity (VO2peak), walking assessments (Timed 25-Foot Walk, T25FW; 2-Minute Walk Test, 2MWT) and walking perception (Multiple Sclerosis Walking Scale-12; MSWS-12) were explored. Patient subgroups with mild (Expanded Disability Status Scale; EDSS score <4.0) and moderate to severe disability (EDSS ≥4.0) were analysed for the impact of ambulatory impairment on PA. Multiple linear regression was used to determine predictors of PA. RESULTS A total of 56 pwMS completed the study, with a mean (standard deviation, SD) age of 48.4 (10.3) years, disease duration of 14.8 (9.6) years and median (interquartile range) EDSS score of 3.5 (2.0 - 4.4). Moderate to weak correlations were found between daily step count and IPAQ total metabolic equivalent (MET) minutes/week (p < 0.001; r = 0.506), MVPA MET-minutes/week (p < 0.01; r = 0.479) and walking MET-minutes/week (p < 0.05; r = 0.372) in the total cohort. Time spent sitting was inversely correlated with total MET-minutes/week and MVPA MET-minutes/week (p < 0.05; r = -0.358 and r = -0.365). Subgroup analysis revealed, that daily step count was significantly correlated with total MET-minutes/week, MVPA MET-minutes/week and walking MET-minutes/week (p < 0.01, r = 0.569; p < 0.01, r = 0.531 and p < 0.05, r = 0.480, respectively) in the "mild disability" subgroup only, whereas time spent sitting was inversely correlated with total MET-minutes/week (p < 0.05; r = -0.582) in the "moderate to severe disability" subgroup. There was no association between objectively assessed PA and GLTEQ scores in any group. In the total cohort, moderate to weak correlations were found between daily step count and walking assessments (T25FW: p < 0.01, ρ = -0.508; 2MWT: p < 0.01, ρ=0.463) and MSWS-12 (p < 0.001; ρ = -0.609). Moderate to weak correlations were also observed between VO2peak and walking assessments (T25FW: p < 0.01; ρ = -0.516; 2MWT: p < 0.01, ρ=0.480). Multiple linear regression analysis identified disability and VO2peak as predictors of PA (p = 0.045; β=0.25 and p < 0.001; β=0.49). CONCLUSION Significant associations of objective PA measurements using accelerometry with IPAQ were found only in pwMS with "mild disability". In pwMS with "moderate to severe disability", IPAQ did not reflect the objectively assessed amount of PA. In our cohort, GLTEQ showed no association with objectively assessed PA. Thus, an MS-specific self-reported questionnaire for assessing PA is warranted.

Abstract
CONTEXT Research about the end of life with the help of patient-reported outcomes in vulnerable populations such as cancer patients is needed but is potentially burdensome and can therefore raise concerns. OBJECTIVES To assess the response burden due to questionnaires about the end of life in cancer patients and to explore associations with individual variables. METHODS In a cross-sectional design response burden was assessed using a six-item instrument after completion of a survey that concerned the end of life. Associations with age, gender, type of care (curative/palliative), years since diagnosis, distress, depression, anxiety, death anxiety, readiness for end-of-life conversations, and readiness for advance care planning were explored via correlational analyses and multiple regressions. Burden due to the topic of end-of-life and completing questionnaires in general was compared. RESULTS A total of 269 cancer patients (mean age 61.4 (SD =12.3); 59.5% male; 58.4% in palliative care) completed the survey in a German hospital. The majority did not report response burden; 29.7% reported at least some burden due to study participation. The multiple regression (F [10,26] = 9.97, p < 0.001) indicated that stable predictors of response burden were higher death anxiety (ß = 0.4), lower readiness to talk about one's end of life (ß = -0.34) and higher age (ß = 0.23). No additional subjective burden due to the topic of end-of-life was reported. CONCLUSION The reported response burden seems acceptable since it was generally low. However, a subgroup did report some burden. Minimising burden and enhancing participants' benefits without compromising the research quality should further influence study designs in this field.

Abstract
BACKGROUND X-linked hypophosphatemia (XLH) is a type of vitamin D-resistant rickets. It is the most common form of it and is related with oral health problems. This study aimed to analyze the OHRQoL of people suffering from XLH and measure physical oral health to confirm or refute evidence of reduced oral health. METHODS The German version of the Oral Health Impact Profile (OHIP-14G), was used to measure OHRQoL. All study participants underwent clinical examination, and oral health was scored using the Physical Oral Health Index (PhOX). RESULTS A total of 26 people participated in the study, of whom five were male and 21 were female. The average participant age was 40.9 ± 12.8 years. The OHIP-14G score was 14.3 (± 12.1; 95% CI: 9.37. 19.16) points (range 0-44 points). The PhOX score was 77.1 (± 9.9; 95% CI: 73.10-81.13) points (range 61-95 points). CONCLUSIONS The results of this study confirm that oral health and OHRQoL are both reduced in the studied cohort of people affected by XLH. Particular attention should be paid to perfect oral hygiene in people with XLH, as the impaired enamel mineralisation increases the risk of caries and thus also the occurrence of apical infections.

Abstract
INTRODUCTION Lung cancer is the most common cancer in China, with the highest mortality rate. Surgery is the primary treatment for early lung cancer. However, patients with lung cancer have a heavy burden of symptoms within 3 months after surgery, which seriously affects their quality of life (QOL). The symptom management model based on the patient-reported outcome (PRO) is considered the best caregiving model. The clinical evidence about the symptom management of lung cancer within 3 months after the operation is very limited. Herein, we propose a randomized controlled trial to evaluate the PRO score-based monitoring and alert system for follow-up on psychological and physiological symptoms of lung cancer patients within 3 months after surgery and further investigate the effect of intervention measures based on this PRO score-based system. METHODS AND ANALYSIS This multicenter, open-label, randomized, parallel superiority trial will be conducted at four hospitals in China. A total of 440 lung cancer patients will be recruited in this study, who will be randomly assigned to the intervention group or the control group in a ratio of 1:1. Any of the target symptoms reaches the preset threshold (score ≥ 4), the patients will accept the symptom management advices based on the PRO. The patients in the control group will follow the current standard procedure of symptom management. The symptom management system is an electronic management system based on WeChat mini programs. All patients will be evaluated for symptoms through the lung cancer module of the MDASI lung cancer-specific scale on the day before surgery, days 1, 3, 5, and 7 after surgery, and once a week during the 12-week post-discharge period. Simultaneously, the EORTC QLQ-C30 scale will be used to evaluate patients' quality of life at baseline and the fourth and twelfth week after the surgery. The mean number of symptom threshold events of the intervention and the control groups were compared by t-test, and the changes of PRO were compared by a mixed effect model. The primary endpoint has been set as the 12-week post-discharge period. DISCUSSION This study will test the feasibility of the symptom management system based on the mobile social media applet in postoperative caregiving and the efficacy of psychiatrist-assisted treatment and provide evidence in managing the symptoms of patients in the medium and long term. Abstract
BACKGROUND Daily diaries are an important modality for patient-reported outcome assessment. They typically comprise multiple questions, so understanding their underlying structure is key to appropriate analysis and interpretation. Structural evaluation of such measures poses challenges due to the high volume of repeated measurements. Potential strategies include selecting a single day, averaging item-level observations over time, or using all data while accounting for its multilevel structure. METHOD The above strategies were evaluated in a simulated dataset via exploratory and confirmatory factor modelling by comparing their impact on various estimates (i.e., inter-item correlations, factor loadings, model fit). Each strategy was additionally explored using real-world data from an observational study (the Asthma Nighttime Symptoms Diary). RESULTS Both single day and item average strategies resulted in biased factor loadings. The former displayed lower overall bias (single day: 0.064; item average: 0.121) and mean square error (single day: 0.007; item average: 0.016) but greater frequency of incorrect factor number identification compared with the latter (single day: 46.4%; item average: 0%). Increased estimated inter-item correlations were apparent in the item-average method. Non-trivial between- and within-person variance highlighted the utility of a multilevel approach. However, convergence issues and Heywood cases were more common under the multilevel approach (90.2% and 100.0%, respectively). CONCLUSIONS Our findings suggest that a multilevel approach can enhance our insight when evaluating the structural properties of daily diary data; however, implementation challenges still remain. Our work offers guidance on the impact of data handling decisions in diary assessment.

Abstract
BACKGROUND We aimed to evaluate patient-reported outcomes (PROs) of stereotactic radiosurgery (SRS) for TN in terms of treatment efficacy and toxicity. METHODS We retrospectively analyzed patients who underwent Gamma Knife SRS for idiopathic or classic TN between January 2013 and February 2022. Questionnaires regarding pain relief, treatment toxicity, and post-SRS treatment were sent between late 2022 and early 2023, and the responses received were analyzed. The Faces Pain Scale (FPS, 0: best, 5: worst) was used for quantitative evaluation. RESULTS Responses were received from 51 patients (76%). The mean pre-SRS FPS score was 4.1 (standard deviation (SD) 1.1). Forty-three patients (83%) reported initial pain relief and the best post-SRS FPS score was 1.1 (SD 1.5) (P < 0.001). At a median follow-up of 50 months, the FPS score was still 1.1 (SD 1.6) (P < 0.001). Analysis of factors contributing to durable pain relief showed neurovascular compression to be associated with FPS score improvement (Odds ratio 5.7, 95% CI 1.1-29.7, P = 0.038). Facial dysesthesia had a mean pre-SRS FPS score of 1.7 (SD 2.0) and a mean score of 1.4 (SD 1.7) at the last follow-up (P = 0.32). Eight patients (15%) received post-SRS interventions and 21 (40%) no longer required pharmacotherapy without post-SRS intervention. Forty-four patients (85%) reported being satisfied with SRS. CONCLUSIONS We analyzed PROs of SRS for TN using the FPS and showed SRS to be a safe and effective treatment modality achieving long lasting pain relief.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Presbyopia is an age-related condition that causes a decreased ability to focus on nearby objects. Multifocal contact lenses are commonly used to address this issue. However, there seems to be a notable dissatisfaction among multifocal contact lens wearers. The absence of a reliable instrument to measure the patient's perspective, despite the widespread use of this method, highlights the need for further research in this area. OBJECTIVE The objective of this study is to develop an item-bank integrating all domains necessary to assess the patient's perspective on multifocal contact lens performance, offering a comprehensive measure. The item-bank will ensure a high level of content validity, be self-administered, and will initially be available in Spanish. The aim of this tool is to serve as a valuable resource for research and optometric clinics, facilitating the follow-up of patients with presbyopia who wear multifocal contact lenses or those who are newly starting to use them. METHODOLOGY The MCL-PRO item bank, followed a systematic and step-wise inductive approach to gather information, following the recommendations outlined in the COSMIN guidelines and similar studies. The process involved the following steps: (1) Literature review and relevant existing items identification (2) Social media review, (3) Semi-structured focus groups, (4) performing qualitative analysis, (5) refining and revising the items, and (6) generating the content of the item bank. RESULTS A total of 575 items were included in the item-bank hosted under 8 different domains that were found to be important for presbyopic population: visual symptoms (213), activity limitation (111), ocular symptoms (135), convenience (36), emotional well-being (33), general symptoms (16), cognitive issues (21) and economic issues (10). CONCLUSION The item-bank created has followed standardised methodology for its development and encloses all the aspects for MCL performance evaluation from patients perspective.

Abstract
PURPOSE Adult acquired buried penis (AABP) is a morbid condition often necessitating surgical intervention. Accurate assessment of pre- and postoperative symptoms is crucial to understand how AABP impacts a patients' quality of life, verify surgical effectiveness, and practice patient-centered care. There is no validated patient-reported outcome instrument specific for AABP evaluation. We undertook a comprehensive review of existing literature on patient-reported outcome instruments post-AABP surgery to highlight the importance of developing a specific tool. METHODS Following the preferred reporting items for systematic reviews and meta-analysis 2020 guidelines, we queried three databases using relevant keywords (e.g., "buried penis repair"). Inclusion criteria were studies that discussed surgical management of AABP with patient-reported outcomes. Pediatric and congenital cases were excluded. Information collected included study design, level of evidence, number of participants included in the study, etiology of buried penis, surgical technique, preoperative or postoperative patient-reported outcomes, and patient-reported outcome instrument used. RESULTS Initial query identified 998 records. After abstract screening and applying the inclusion or exclusion criteria, a total of 19 articles with 440 patients were included. Eight studies implemented patient-reported outcome instruments. The international index of erectile dysfunction-5 and Likert satisfaction scales were used most frequently. Although all instruments were validated, none were validated in the specific context of AABP surgical intervention. CONCLUSIONS There is considerable heterogeneity within the AABP literature regarding patient symptomatology, postoperative complications, patient-reported outcomes, and instruments used. The results of this study emphasize the need for a patient-reported outcome measure to examine the influence of AABP repair on patient satisfaction and health-related quality of life.

Abstract
BACKGROUND This study aimed to clarify the reliability and validity of the Japanese version of the Insomnia Catastrophizing Scale (ICS) and to examine the relationship between insomnia severity and insomnia-related cognitive factors. METHODS A total of 786 participants were recruited via an online survey and classified into the insomnia group (n = 342) and healthy group (n = 444). The insomnia group comprised individuals who self-reported meeting the diagnostic criteria for chronic insomnia disorder in the third edition of the International Classification of Sleep Disorders. RESULTS The ICS is used to independently assess nighttime (ICS-N) and daytime (ICS-D) catastrophic thoughts, and item response theory revealed that each ICS-N and ICS-D item can adequately assess catastrophic thoughts during the night and day, respectively. The internal consistency and test-retest reliability of the ICS-N and ICS-D were good. Further, the ICS-N and ICS-D had a significant positive correlation with insomnia severity, hyperarousal, sleep-related safety behaviors, dysfunctional beliefs about sleep, and anxiety symptoms. Multiple regression analyses with insomnia severity as the dependent variable in the insomnia group demonstrated that catastrophic thoughts were more strongly associated with insomnia severity than sleep-related safety behaviors and dysfunctional beliefs about sleep. The interaction between nighttime catastrophic thoughts and sleep-related safety behaviors increased insomnia severity. CONCLUSIONS The Japanese versions of ICS-N and ICS-D were found to be superior in measuring insomnia-related catastrophic thoughts and to have high reliability and validity. Furthermore, these findings more clearly demonstrate that the catastrophic thoughts may be an important associated factor of insomnia.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Lower limb muscle power is positively associated with functional performance and patient-reported outcomes (PROMs) and suggested as an important variable to evaluate in patients with advanced knee osteoarthritis (OA). OBJECTIVES To explore the association between muscle power derived from the 30-sec sit-to-stand test (STS power) with functional performance and PROMs compared to maximal isometric knee extensor strength (KE MVC) in male- and female patients with advanced OA. STUDY DESIGN Cross-sectional design. METHODS Eighty-six patients (66.6 [64.9-67.7]years) with advanced knee OA were included. Dependent variables were STS power and KE MVC. Independent variables were Timed Up&Go (TUG), 40-m fast-paced walk test (40mFWT), Knee injury and Osteoarthritis Outcome Score (KOOS) subscales. COVARIATE Age. ANALYSES Simple linear- and multiple regression analyses with and without adjusting for age. Pitman's test was used to evaluate differences in correlation strength among dependent variables. RESULTS STS power demonstrated a statistical relationship with TUG and 40mFWT for both sexes (β coefficients -1.11 to -4.36 (p < 0.05), r2 = 0.47-0.55 (p < 0.05)), and with KOOS Pain, ADL, and Sport for male patients (β coefficients 6.53 to 7.17 (p < 0.05), r2 = 0.29-0.33 (p < 0.05)). Knee extensor MVC demonstrated no relationship with any outcomes for male patients or female patients. STS power displayed statistically stronger correlation to functional performance. CONCLUSION STS power was associated with functional performance in both male patients and female patients suffering from advanced knee OA. Moreover, STS power was associated with KOOS Pain, Sport, and ADLin male patients. The assessment of STS power should be considered in the evaluation of patients with advanced knee OA. Abstract
This narrative review provides an overview of the current knowledge on health-related quality of life (HRQOL), a relevant clinical outcome in patients with epilepsy. It shows that the most important factor determining HRQOL in this patient group is seizure frequency. In particular, seizure-freedom is associated with better HRQOL scores. Many other factors may impact perceived HRQOL aspects, but their interrelation is complex and requires further research. Novel analytical approaches, such as hierarchical cluster and symptom network analyses might shed further light on this, and may result in recommendations for interventions on the most 'central' factors influencing different aspects of HRQOL in patients with epilepsy. Next, an overview of the HRQOL tools and analytical methods currently used in epilepsy care, with a focus on clinical trials, is provided. The QOLIE-31 is the most frequently applied and best validated tool. Several other questionnaires focusing on specific aspects of HRQOL (e.g., mood, social impact) are less frequently used. We show some pitfalls that should be taken into account when designing study protocols including HRQOL endpoints. This includes standardized statistical analysis approaches and predefined reporting methods for HRQOL in epilepsy populations. It has been shown in other patient groups that the lack of such standardisation negatively impacts the quality and comparability of results. We conclude with a number of recommendations for future research.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Crisis resolution teams (CRTs) have become a part of mental health services in many high-income countries. Many studies have investigated the impact of CRTs on acute admissions to inpatient units, but very few studies have investigated patient-reported and clinician-reported outcomes for CRT service users. Our aims were to study patient-reported and clinician-reported outcomes of CRT treatment, how the outcomes were associated with characteristics of the service user and the treatment, and whether outcomes were different across CRTs. METHODS The study was a pre-post observational multicenter study of 475 patients receiving treatment from 25 CRTs in urban and rural areas in Norway. There was no control group. Outcomes were change in mental health status reported by service users using CORE-10 and by clinicians using HoNOS. Patient satisfaction was measured using CSQ-8 at the end of the treatment. Components of CRT accessibility and interventions were measured by clinicians reporting details on each session with the service user. CRT model fidelity was measured using the CORE CRT Fidelity Scale version 2. We used paired t-tests to analyze outcomes and linear mixed modeling to analyze associations of the outcomes with the characteristics of service users and the treatment provided. Using independent t-tests, we analyzed differences in outcomes and patient satisfaction between two clusters of CRTs with differences in accessibility. RESULTS The patient-reported outcomes and the clinician-reported outcomes were significantly positive and with a large effect size. Both were significantly positively associated with practical support and medication management and negatively associated with collaboration with mental health inpatient units. Patient satisfaction was high at the end of the treatment. CRTs with higher accessibility had a significantly better clinician-reported outcome, but no significant differences were reported for patient-reported outcomes or patient satisfaction. CONCLUSIONS CRT treatment led to improved symptom status as reported by patients and clinicians, as well as high patient satisfaction. Practical support and medication management were the interventions most strongly associated with positive outcomes. Some of the variations in outcomes were at the team level. Patient- and clinician-reported outcomes should be used more in studies on the effect of treatment provided by crisis resolution teams.

Abstract
Patient-reported outcome (PRO) questionnaires considered in this paper contain multiple subscales, although not all subscales are equally relevant for administration in all target patient populations. A group of measurement experts, developers, license holders, and other scientific-, regulatory-, payer-, and patient-focused stakeholders participated in a panel to discuss the benefits and challenges of a modular approach, defined here as administering a subset of subscales out of a multi-scaled PRO measure. This paper supports the position that it is acceptable, and sometimes preferable, to take a modular approach when administering PRO questionnaires, provided that certain conditions have been met and a rigorous selection process performed. Based on the experiences and perspectives of all stakeholders, using a modular approach can reduce patient burden and increase the relevancy of the items administered, and thereby improve measurement precision and eliminate wasted data without sacrificing the scientific validity and utility of the instrument. The panelists agreed that implementing a modular approach is not expected to have a meaningful impact on item responses, subscale scores, variability, reliability, validity, and effect size estimates; however, collecting additional evidence for the impact of context may be desirable. It is also important to recognize that adequate rationale and evidence (e.g., of fit-for-purpose status and relevance to patients) and a robust consensus process that includes patient perspectives are required to inform selection of subscales, as in any other measurement circumstance, is expected. We believe that the considerations discussed within (content validity, administration context, and psychometric factors) are relevant across multiple therapeutic areas.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Despite aneurysmal subarachnoid haemorrhage (aSAH) patients often experiencing physical and mental disabilities impacting their quality of life (QoL), routine assessment of long-term QoL data and predictive tools are limited. This study evaluates the newly developed "functional recovery expected after subarachnoid haemorrhage" (FRESH) scores with long-term outcomes and QoL in European aSAH patients. METHODS FRESH, FRESH-cog, and FRESH-quol scores were retrospectively obtained from aSAH patients. Patients were contacted, and the modified Rankin Scale (mRS), extended short form-36 (SF-36), and telephone interview for cognitive status (TICS) were collected and performed. The prognostic and empirical outcomes were compared. RESULTS Out of 374 patients, 171 patients (54.1%) completed the SF-36, and 154 patients completed the TICS. The SF-36 analysis showed that 32.7% had below-average physical component summary (PCS) scores, and 39.8% had below-average mental component summary (MCS) scores. There was no significant correlation between the FRESH score and PCS (p = 0.09736), MCS (p = 0.1796), TICS (p = 0.7484), or mRS 10-82 months (average 46 months) post bleeding (p = 0.024), respectively. There was also no significant correlation found for "FRESH-cog vs. TICS" (p = 0.0311), "FRESH-quol vs. PCS" (p = 0.0204), "FRESH-quol vs. MCS" (p = 0.1361) and "FRESH-quol vs. TICS" (p = 0.1608). CONCLUSIONS This study found no correlation between FRESH scores and validated QoL tools in a European population of aSAH patients. The study highlights the complexity of reliable long-term QoL prognostication in aSAH patients and emphasises the need for further prospective research to also focus on QoL as an important outcome parameter.

Abstract
PURPOSE This study aimed to investigate the incidence of early and late complications following treatment of patella fractures. Secondary aims were to investigate the association between early and late complications and the patient-reported outcome measurement, the Knee Injury and Osteoarthritis outcome score (KOOS). METHODS Cross-sectional study including all patients recorded with a patella fracture residing in the Northern Region of Denmark between 2010 and 2020. Early (before 3 months) and late complications were investigated by retrospective review of charts and x-rays. All patients were invited to participate in the study by reporting current knee-specific symptoms. The KOOS was used to investigate patient-reported knee-specific symptoms. RESULTS Seven hundred ninety-eight patients were included in the study. A total of 532 (67%) patients were treated conservatively, and 266 (33%) patients underwent surgery. The mean age at the time of fracture was 66.8, ranging from 6 to 103 years of age. The mean follow-up time was 6.4 years, ranging from 1.1 to 12.3 years follow-up. Overall, the rate of complications was 26%. Overall, the rate of complication for the surgical group was 57% and for the conservative group 4%. The most common early complication was the loss of reduction followed by the removal of symptomatic hardware. The most common late complication was the removal of symptomatic hardware and knee arthroscopy. In all the five KOOS subscales (Pain, Symptoms, ADL, Sport/Rec, and QOL), patients presenting with early and late complications reported statistically significantly worse scores than those without complications. CONCLUSION The overall incidence of complications in patients presenting with a patella fracture was 26%, with a mean follow-up time of 6.4 years. In the surgical group, 57% of patients experience at least one complication during the follow-up period. Early and late complications were significantly associated with worse KOOS subscale scores.

Abstract
PURPOSE The main objective of this study is to assess the test-retest and inter-administration mode reliability of the Impact of Vision Impairment profile (IVI), a common patient-reported outcome measure (PROM) for people with chronic eye diseases. METHODS The IVI was administered to adult patients with stable, chronic eye diseases two to four times per participant (average intervals between administrations 12 to 20 days; maximum two phone interviews, paper administration, electronic administration) by two trained interviewers. Rasch models were fit to the data. Intra-class correlation coefficients (ICCs), mean differences and Cronbach's alpha between test-retest administrations (two phone interviews) and inter-mode comparisons were calculated. RESULTS Two hundred-sixteen patients (mean age 67 ± 12 years, 40% male) were included in the study. The IVI met all psychometric requirements of the Rasch model, and the division into the domains of functional items (IVI_F) and emotional items (IVI_E) corresponded to the German validation study. ICCs (all for IVI_F and IVI_E, respectively) for the retest administrations were 0.938 and 0.912, and 0.853 and 0.893 for inter-mode comparisons phone/paper, 0.939 and 0.930 for phone/electronic, and 0.937 and 0.920 for paper/electronic (all p < 0.01). Mean differences (all for IVI_F and IVI_E, respectively) for the retest administrations were 2.8% and 0.7% and ranged from 2.0% to 6.2% and from 0.4 % to 4.9% between administration modes. Cronbach's alpha ranged from 0.886 to 0.944 for retest and inter-mode comparisons. CONCLUSION Due to the high test-retest reliability and the almost equally high comparability of different modes of administration of the IVI, the study endorses its use as a robust PROM to capture vision-related quality of life. Our results further support the use of the IVI as an endpoint in clinical trials and may simplify implementing it in both clinical trials or real-world evidence generation by offering multiple administration modes with high reliability.

Abstract
PURPOSE The FitMáx© was developed as a questionnaire-based instrument to estimate Cardiorespiratory Fitness (CRF) expressed as oxygen uptake at peak exercise (VO2peak). Test-retest reliability is a clinometric measurement property, which defines stability over time if multiple measurements are performed (i.e. reliability). The present study aimed to assess the test-retest reliability of the FitMáx©-questionnaire in different patient groups. PATIENTS AND METHODS A total of 127 cardiac, pulmonary and oncology patients and healthy subjects aged 19-84 years who completed the questionnaire twice within an average of 18 days were included for analysis. Participants were in a stable clinical situation (no acute disease or participating in a training program). To determine the test-retest reliability, the Intraclass Correlation Coefficient (ICC) and Standard Error of the Measurement (SEM) was calculated between the first (T0) and second (T1) administration of the questionnaires. RESULTS An excellent agreement was found between the FitMáx©-questionnaire scores at T0 and T1, with an ICC of 0.97 (SEM 1.91) in the total study population and an ICC ranging from 0.93 to 0.98 (SEM 1.52-2.27) in the individual patient groups. CONCLUSION The FitMáx©-questionnaire proves to be reliable and stable over time to estimate CRF of patients and healthy subjects. Trial registration NTR (Netherlands Trial Register), NL8846. Abstract
As older adults with cancer are underrepresented in randomized clinical trials (RCT), there is limited evidence on which to rely for treatment decisions for this population. Commonly used RCT endpoints for the assessment of treatment efficacy are more often tumor-centered (e.g., progression-free survival). These endpoints may not be as relevant for the older patients who present more often with comorbidities, non-cancer-related deaths, and treatment toxicity. Moreover, their expectation and preferences are likely to differ from younger adults. The DATECAN-ELDERLY initiative combines a broad expertise, in geriatric oncology and clinical research, with interest in cancer RCT that include older patients with cancer. In order to guide researchers and clinicians coordinating cancer RCT involving older patients with cancer, the experts reviewed the literature on relevant domains to assess using patient-reported outcomes (PRO) and patient-related outcomes, as well as available tools related to these domains. Domains considered relevant by the panel of experts when assessing treatment efficacy in RCT for older patients with cancer included functional autonomy, cognition, depression and nutrition. These were based on published guidelines from international societies and from regulatory authorities as well as minimum datasets recommended to collect in RCT including older adults with cancer. In addition, health-related quality of life, patients' symptoms, and satisfaction were also considered by the panel. With regards to tools for the assessment of these domains, we highlighted that each tool has its own strengths and limitations, and very few had been validated in older adults with cancer. Further studies are thus needed to validate these tools in this specific population and define the minimum clinically important difference to use when developing RCTs in this population. The selection of the most relevant tool should thus be guided by the RCT research question, together with the specific properties of the tool.

Abstract
INTRODUCTION AND HYPOTHESIS How body mass index (BMI) affects pelvic floor function after a second-degree perineal laceration is unknown. The hypothesis of this study is that pelvic floor dysfunction and complications after an obstetric second-degree perineal laceration are more common in women with a higher BMI 8 weeks postpartum. METHODS This register-based cohort study includes 10,876 primiparous women with an obstetric second-degree perineal laceration between 2014 and 2021. Data were retrieved from the Swedish Perineal Laceration Registry. Outcomes in relation to maternal BMI were urinary incontinence (UI), anal incontinence (AI) and common complications attributable to the laceration. Uni- and multivariate logistic regressions were used for comparison between normal weight (BMI < 24.9, reference), overweight (25.0-29.9) and obese (≥ 30) women. RESULTS Multivariate analyses showed an increased risk for UI in both overweight and obese women compared to normal-weight women 8 weeks after a second-degree perineal laceration with an adjusted odds ratio (aOR) of 1.21 (CI 1.02-1.44) and 1.27 (CI 1.13-1.58) respectively. Overweight and obese women had a decreased risk for AI (aOR 0.81, CI 0.68-0.96; aOR 0.72, CI 0.57-0.90 respectively) compared with normal-weight women. No significant differences were found in the univariate analyses over BMI strata concerning complications after perineal laceration. CONCLUSIONS Primiparous overweight and obese women report less AI and more UI than normal-weight women 8 weeks after a second-degree perineal laceration. No differences were found regarding complications. These findings are new and merit further study to find potential preventive factors and interventions after a second-degree perineal laceration.

Abstract
BACKGROUND The carpal tunnel syndrome instrument (CTSI) is the most widely used patient-reported outcome measure (PROM) in carpal tunnel syndrome (CTS). However, CTSI is an ordinal-type questionnaire and might have caused misinterpretations of the PROM between surgical outcomes of CTS (Camitz and extra/open carpal tunnel release). PURPOSE This study aims to convert the CTSI to an interval scale using Rasch analysis (RA) and evaluate the outcome differences between the original and transformed scales. STUDY DESIGN Prospective control study. METHODS Four hundred twenty-four patients with 567 CTSs had been interviewed for CTSI perioperatively and treated with either endoscopic/open carpal tunnel release or Camitz tendon transfer. Each CTSI was analyzed for dimensionality, fit statistics, and a transformation of the ordinal-to-interval scale by RA. We compared the two groups perioperative scores of three CTSI versions (original 11-item, modified 8-item, and transformed 8-item). RESULTS Based on the RA, the original CTSI was not unidimensional. We identified two dimensions. After removing misfit items, the perioperative course of each score by three versions of each dimension was compared (Repeated 2-factor analysis of variance). The transformed interval scales of CTSI provided different assessments of score changes from the ordinal scale of CTSI analyses. CONCLUSIONS Original CTSI consisted of ordinal scale items that yielded different conclusions than scores converted to interval scale by Rasch analysis. CTSI should convert into an interval scale after reclassifying dimensionality by Latent Factor Analysis and removing misfit items.

Abstract
INTRODUCTION Little information exists on the relationship between bleeding outcomes and physical activity in patients with haemophilia A (PwHA). AIM This interim analysis of the TSUBASA study (UMIN-CTR ID: UMIN000037448) evaluated the association of physical activity with bleeding and safety in PwHA starting emicizumab. METHODS PwHA without factor VIII inhibitors were recruited. Physical activity and bleed data were obtained using an electronic patient-reported outcome application and wearable activity tracker. Adverse events (AEs) were documented. RESULTS At data cut-off (31-May-2021), 107 PwHA were enrolled, with a median (range) age of 35 (0-73) years. Physical activity data were obtained for 74 participants. Of these, 47 (63.5%) recorded a total of 396 exercise events. The most common exercise events were walking (32.4%), cycling (14.9%), and football (5.4%). Two (0.5%) exercise events in the same individual were associated with bleeding (running, weight training). The safety analysis population consisted of 106 participants treated with emicizumab (median observation period: 241.5 days). Twenty-one (19.8%) participants experienced a total of 39 AEs. Five (4.7%) experienced a serious AE, none of which was emicizumab-related, and three (2.8%) experienced an adverse drug reaction. CONCLUSIONS PwHA receiving emicizumab in the TSUBASA study experienced minimal bleeding associated with physical activity. TRIAL REGISTRATION Trial registration: UMIN-CTR ID: UMIN000037448.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Patient-reported outcome (PRO) data may help us better understand the life of breast cancer patients. We have previously collected PRO data in a national Danish breast cancer study in patients undergoing adjuvant chemotherapy. The aim of the present post-hoc explorative study is to apply Machine Learning (ML) algorithms using permutation importance to explore how specific PRO symptoms influence nonadherence to six cycles of planned adjuvant chemotherapy in breast cancer patients. METHODS We here investigate ePRO-data from the 347 patients. The ePRO presented 42 PROCTCAE questions on 25 symptoms. Patients completed the ePRO before each cycle of chemotherapy. Number of patients with completion of the scheduled six cycles of chemotherapy were registered. Two ML models were applied. One aimed at discovering the individual relative importance of the different questions in the dataset while the second aimed at discovering the relationships between the questions. Permutation importance was used. RESULTS Out of 347 patients 238 patients remained in the final dataset, 15 patients dropped out. Two symptoms: aching joints and numbness/tingling, were the most important for dropout in the final dataset, each with an importance value of about 0.04. Model's average ROC-AUC-score being 0.706. In the second model a low performance score made the results very unreliable. CONCLUSION In conclusion, this explorative data analysis using ML methodologies in an ePRO dataset from a population of women with breast cancer treated with adjuvant chemotherapy unravels that the symptoms aching joints and numbness/tingling could be important for drop out of planned adjuvant chemotherapy.

Abstract
Background This study aims to (1) investigate the prevalence of anxiety, depression and severe fear of cancer recurrence or progression in gastrointestinal stromal tumor (GIST) patients treated in a curative or palliative setting, (2) compare their prevalence with a norm population, (3) identify factors associated with anxiety, depression and severe fear, and (4) study the impact of these psychological symptoms on health-related quality of life (HRQoL). Methods In a cross-sectional study, GIST patients completed the Hospital Anxiety and Depression Scale, Cancer Worry Scale, and EORTC QLQ-C30. Results Of the 328 patients, 15% reported anxiety, 13% depression, and 43% had severe fear. Anxiety and depression levels were comparable between the norm population and patients in the curative setting, but significantly higher for patients in the palliative setting. Having other psychological symptoms was associated with anxiety, while current TKI treatment and anxiety were associated with depression. Severe fear was associated with age, female sex, palliative treatment setting, anxiety, and GIST-related concerns. Conclusion GIST patients treated in a palliative setting are more prone to experience psychological symptoms, which can significantly impair their HRQoL. These symptoms deserve more attention in clinical practice, in which regular screening can be helpful, and appropriate interventions should be offered.

Abstract
Introduction Slight lateral laxity exists in normal knee especially in flexion. The lateral laxity in flexion has possibility to affect the outcome after total knee arthroplasty (TKA). Purpose The purpose of this study was to determine how intraoperative laxity in flexion affects patient-reported outcome after total knee arthroplasty. Methods We retrospectively analysed 98 knees with osteoarthritis that underwent total knee arthroplasty. After bone resection, ligament imbalance and joint component gaps were measured using an offset-type tensor while applying a 40-lb joint distraction force at 0° and 90° of knee flexion. The lateral laxity in flexion was determined by subtracting polyethylene insert thickness from the lateral gap at 90°. All patients were divided into three groups: ≤ 2 mm (A), 2-5 mm (B), and > 5 mm (C). One year after surgery, patients were asked to fill out questionnaires using the new Knee Society Score after examination outside the consultation room. Results The mean intraoperative lateral laxities at 90° were - 0.2 ± 2.1 mm, 3.5 ± 0.7 mm, and 6.7 ± 1.9 mm in groups A, B, and C, respectively. The symptom score of group C was significantly lower than those of groups A or B. There were no significant differences in terms of satisfaction or the expectation and activity scores among all groups. There were no significant differences in terms of alignment after total knee arthroplasty among all groups. Conclusions Excessive lateral laxity possibly resulted in worse patient-reported outcomes. However, slight lateral laxity of 2-5 mm might have no effect on patient-reported outcome and this slight varus imbalance could be acceptable. Altogether, our findings would lead to avoidance of excessive medial release in soft tissue balancing.

Abstract
BACKGROUND To determine whether the combination of nab-paclitaxel with gemcitabine has activity in patients with pretreated soft tissue sarcoma (STS). PATIENTS AND METHODS NAPAGE is a phase Ib/II clinical trial investigating the combination of nab-paclitaxel (nab-pc) with gemcitabine employing two cohorts. One of a dose-de-escalation phase and one of expansion. In phase I, nab-pc was given at 150 mg/m2 in combination with gemcitabine 1000 mg/m2 every two weeks, until disease progression or unacceptable toxicity. This dose was recommended for phase II (RP2D), as there was no dose limiting toxicity (DLT) or discontinuations due to adverse events (AEs). The primary endpoint of the phase II was progression-free rate (PFR) at 3 months (H0: 20%, H1:40%). The secondary endpoints included progression free survival (PFS), overall survival (OS), AEs, objective response and patient-reported outcomes (PRO). Efficacy analysis was by intention to treat. RESULTS The 3-month PFR was 56.4% (95% confidence interval CI: 39.6-72.2%). The 3-month and 6-month PFS were 58.4% (95% CI: 41.3-72.1%) and 44.6% (95% CI: 28.4-59.5%), respectively. Median PFS was 5.3 months (95% CI: 1.4-8.2) and median OS was 12.8 months (95% CI: 10.5-39.2). The most common treatment-related grade ≥ 3 AE were neutropenia (18%), followed by anemia (2.6%), hypertension (2.6%) and alanine aminotransferase increase (2.6%). Grade 1 and grade 2 peripheral sensory neuropathy (PNP) occurred in 15.4% and 20.5%, respectively. No grade 3-4 PNP was reported. CONCLUSIONS Combining nab-pc and gemcitabine is safe. Promising activity is observed in pretreated STS patients with manageable toxicity. This regimen should be considered for further exploration.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Recently, open pose estimation using artificial intelligence (AI) has enabled the analysis of time series of human movements through digital video inputs. Analyzing a person's actual movement as a digitized image would give objectivity in evaluating a person's physical function. In the present study, we investigated the relationship of AI camera-based open pose estimation with Harris Hip Score (HHS) developed for patient-reported outcome (PRO) of hip joint function. METHOD HHS evaluation and pose estimation using AI camera were performed for a total of 56 patients after total hip arthroplasty in Gyeongsang National University Hospital. Joint angles and gait parameters were analyzed by extracting joint points from time-series data of the patient's movements. A total of 65 parameters were from raw data of the lower extremity. Principal component analysis (PCA) was used to find main parameters. K-means cluster, X-squared test, Random forest, and mean decrease Gini (MDG) graph were also applied. RESULTS The train model showed 75% prediction accuracy and the test model showed 81.8% reality prediction accuracy in Random forest. "Anklerang_max", "kneeankle_diff", and "anklerang_rl" showed the top 3 Gini importance score in the Mean Decrease Gini (MDG) graph. CONCLUSION The present study shows that pose estimation data using AI camera is related to HHS by presenting associated gait parameters. In addition, our results suggest that ankle angle associated parameters could be key factors of gait analysis in patients who undergo total hip arthroplasty.

Abstract
PURPOSE This study evaluated the feasibility and utility of longitudinal cough frequency monitoring with the Hyfe Cough Tracker, a mobile application equipped with cough-counting artificial intelligence algorithms, in real-world patients with chronic cough. METHODS Patients with chronic cough (> 8-week duration) were monitored continuously for cough frequency with the Hyfe app for at least one week. Cough was also evaluated using the Leicester Cough Questionnaire (LCQ) and daily cough severity scoring (0-10). The study analyzed adherence rate, the correlation between objective cough frequency and subjective scores, day-to-day variability, and patient experience. RESULTS Of 65 subjects consecutively recruited, 43 completed the study. The median cough monitoring duration was 13.9 days, with a median adherence of 91%. Study completion was associated with baseline cough severity, and the adherence rate was higher in younger subjects. Cross-sectional correlation analyses showed modest correlations between objective and subjective cough measures at the group level. However, in time series correlation analyses, correlations between objective and subjective measures widely varied across individuals. Cough frequency had greater day-to-day variability than daily cough severity scores in most subjects. A patient experience survey found that 70% of participants found the cough monitoring helpful, 86% considered it acceptable, and 84% felt it was easy to use. CONCLUSION Monitoring cough frequency longitudinally for at least one week may be feasible. The substantial day-to-day variability in objective cough frequency highlights the need for continuous monitoring. Grasping the implications of daily cough variability is crucial in both clinical practice and clinical trials.

Abstract
PURPOSE To evaluate the association between the preoperative global alignment and proportion (GAP) score and low back pain (LBP) after total hip arthroplasty (THA). METHODS This was a retrospective case-control study of 200 patients who underwent primary unilateral THA for hip osteoarthritis. The following variables were compared between individuals with (n = 76) and without (n = 124) LBP after THA over a mean follow-up of 2 years: age, sex, GAP score, and patient-reported outcome measures. Logistic regression and receiver operating characteristic curve analyses were used to detect predictive factors. RESULTS The following parameters were predictive of post-THA LBP: relative pelvic version (RPV) <-7° (odds ratio, 1.43; 95% confidence interval, 1.10-1.72; P = 0.032) and relative lumbar lordosis <-15° (odds ratio, 1.13; 95% confidence interval, 1.04-2.13; P = 0.041) preoperatively. Using an RPV cutoff value of - 7° (specificity 61/64 = 0.953; sensitivity 121/136 = 0.890), there were significant between-group differences in LBP visual analog scale (P = 0.020), Oswestry Disability Index (ODI, P = 0.014), EuroQol 5-Dimension (P = 0.027), Hip Disability and Osteoarthritis Outcome Score Joint Replacement (HOOS JR, P = 0.012), patient satisfaction (P = 0.024). There was clinically meaningful improvement for LBP visual analog scale (P = 0.001), ODI (P = 0.004), and HOOS JR (P < 0.001). The RPV before THA was correlated with HOOS JR (r = 0.773, P = 0.012) and ODI (r = - 0.602, P = 0.032) postoperatively. CONCLUSION Among the GAP score, a moderate-to-severe pelvic retroversion was significantly associated with LBP post-THA. The RPV measurement may be a useful predictor of THA outcome, which may influence patient satisfaction.

Abstract
In Japan, exacerbations are underreported compared with other countries, possibly due in part to a failure to recognize them. This study aimed to create a simple chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) Exacerbation Recognition Tool (CERT-J) specifically for Japanese patients. Patients ≥40 years with confirmed COPD or asthma-COPD overlap were included. Focus groups were held to identify words and phrases used by patients to describe symptoms associated with an exacerbation, resulting in candidate items being identified. Following cognitive debriefing, the items were refined based on item frequency, level of endorsement and effect of demographic factors. Exploratory factor analysis (EFA) was then performed to inform an expert panel's choice of items to form the new tool. A total of 41 patients were included in the focus groups and nine patients performed the cognitive debrief. Following this, the expert panel identified 26 items for testing in a further 100 patients (mean age 72 years, forced expiratory volume in 1 s 54.8% predicted and 1.8 exacerbations in the preceding 12 months). Eleven items were associated with breathlessness or activity limitation and seven of these were the most frequently endorsed. EFA identified four factors, with one (breathlessness) being dominant. The expert panel recommended that the CERT-J should include six items: breathlessness and activity limitation (3 items), cough (1 item) and phlegm (2 items). The final CERT-J should benefit patients with COPD by providing them with an increased understanding and recognition of exacerbations.Clinical Trial Registration: GSK K.K (jRCT1080224526).

Abstract
BACKGROUND Artificial joint replacement is a meaningful treatment option for patients with advanced rheumatic degenerative joint diseases. The aim of this study was to investigate the influence of the underlying rheumatic diseases on postoperative complications and patient-reported outcome (PRO) after elective total joint replacement (TJR). MATERIAL AND METHODS In a retrospective analysis of 9149 patients with elective total knee or total hip arthroplasty (TKR and THR), complication rates and PRO of patients with and without rheumatic diseases (RD) were compared. Multivariate logistic regression models were used to determine whether the underlying rheumatic disease was an independent risk factor for various complications. RESULTS In the univariate analyses the RD patients had an increased risk of medical complications (7.1% vs. 5.2%; p = 0.028) and Clavien-Dindo grade IV complications (2.8% vs. 1.8%; p = 0.048) after TJR. This was confirmed in multivariate statistical analyses (p < 0.034). The rates for operative revisions and surgical complications were comparable (2.5% vs. 2.4%; p = 0.485). Analysis of the PRO showed a higher responder rate in patients with RD after TKR (91.9% vs. 84.5%, p = 0.039). In contrast, the responder rate in patients with RD after THR was comparable (93.4% vs. 93.2%, p = 0.584). CONCLUSION Despite increased postoperative complication rates, patients with underlying rheumatic diseases showed a comparable outcome 1 year after TJR. After TKR the RD patients showed even higher responder rates. Although RD patients are a vulnerable patient group, they can still benefit from joint replacement.

Abstract
PURPOSE The primary objective is to systematically review primary studies, such as randomized control trials (RCTs), feasibility, exploratory, and case studies; and the secondary objective is to evaluate all secondary articles, such as reviews, guidelines, and editorials, relevant to the use of StrataXRT for the prevention and/or management of radiation dermatitis (RD) in cancer patients. METHODS A literature search was conducted up to February 26, 2023, for articles investigating the use of StrataXRT for the prevention and treatment of RD, in the following databases: Ovid MEDLINE, Embase, Cochrane Central Register of Controlled Trials (CENTRAL), and Google Scholar. The keywords "StrataXRT", "dermatitis", "radiotherapy", and "radiation" were used to identify relevant articles. RESULTS Twenty-seven articles from 2018 to 2022 were identified to fulfill the inclusion criteria of this review, of which nine are primary studies and 18 are secondary papers. Significant heterogeneity was observed in the current literature studying the effects of StrataXRT, making it difficult to make cross-trial comparisons. There is a suggestion of the efficacy of StrataXRT in the prevention and treatment of RD. CONCLUSION The findings of this review recommend further adequately powered RCTs with robust methodology including patient and clinician assessments to determine the efficacy of StrataXRT in preventing and treating RD. This is essential to improve the quality of life of patients and identify which groups of patients would benefit most from StrataXRT.

Abstract
Background Keller's arthroplasty, arthrodesis and cheilectomy are well-known surgical interventions for hallux rigidus. This study aimed to evaluate the effects of these surgical interventions on gait, plantar pressure distribution and clinical outcome in patients treated for hallux rigidus 22 years after surgery. Methods Spatio-temporal gait parameters and plantar pressure distribution, determined as pressure time integrals (PTIs) and peak pressures (PPs), were analyzed using a 7-foot tone analysis model. Patient-reported outcome was assessed using the Manchester-Oxford Foot Questionnaire (MOXFQ). Of the 73 patients (89 feet) from the original study, 27 patients (33 feet) and 13 healthy controls (26 feet) were available for evaluation 22 years after hallux rigidus surgery. Results Spatio-temporal gait parameters were comparable between all groups and were in line with healthy controls (P > 0.05). No differences (P > 0.05) in PTIs and PPs were found in the seven plantar zones between groups and as compared to healthy controls. MOXFQ scores in all domains (walking/standing, range 21.4-24.1; pain, range 16.5-22.2 and social interaction, range 23.8-35.4) were not clinically and statistically different (P > 0.05) between the three different surgical interventions. Conclusion These results suggest no long-term functional and biomechanical differences after these surgical interventions for hallux rigidus correction. The interventions seem to be appropriate treatment options for a selective group of patients with symptomatic hallux rigidus.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Although outcome goals for acute healthcare among older people living with frailty often include Health-Related Quality of Life (HRQoL) and other patient-reported outcome measures (PROMs), current quality metrics usually focus on waiting times and survival. Lay and patient review have identified the EuroQol EQ-5D as a candidate measure for this setting. This research appraised the EQ-5D for feasibility, psychometric performance, and respondents' outcomes in the acute frailty setting. METHODS People aged 65 + with Clinical Frailty Scale (CFS) 5-8 were recruited from eight UK hospitals' emergency care and acute admissions settings. They completed the five-level EQ-5D and the EQ-VAS. Feasibility was assessed with completion times and completeness. For reliability, response distributions and internal consistency were analysed. Finally, EQ-Index values were compared with demographic characteristics and service outcomes for construct validity. RESULTS The 232 participants were aged 65-102. 38% responded in emergency departments and 62% in admissions wards. Median completion time was 12 (IQR, 11) minutes. 98% responses were complete. EQ-5D had acceptable response distribution (SD 1.1-1.3) and internal consistency (Cronbach's alpha 0.69). EQ-VAS demonstrated a midpoint response pattern. Median EQ-Index was 0.574 (IQR, 0.410) and was related positively with increasing age (p = 0.010) and negatively with CFS (p < 0.001). Participants with higher CFS had more frequent problems with mobility, self-care, and usual activities. CONCLUSIONS Administration of the EQ-5D was feasible in these emergency and acute frailty care settings. EQ-5D had acceptable properties, while EQ-VAS appeared problematic. Participants with more severe frailty had also poorer HRQoL.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Current chemotherapy-induced peripheral neuropathy (CIPN) assessment tools mostly have poor sensitivity and weak anti-interference, so that it is sometimes difficult to provide substantive guidance for clinical intervention. This study aimed to develop an assessment tool dedicated for oxaliplatin to address these limitations. METHODS This study screened 445 OIPN-related literatures for producing a symptom list, and developed the questionnaire module through expert supplement, item generation, content correlation analysis, pre-testing, and item improvement. The validation phase used a Chinese population-based prospective cohort study from June 2021 to July 2022. Patients were requested to complete the tested questionnaire, QLQ-CIPN20 and the CTCAE grading one day before cycles 2-6 of chemotherapy. Cronbach's α coefficient and intraclass correlation coefficient (ICC) were calculated for the internal consistency and stability analysis, respectively. Exploratory factor analysis was conducted to investigate the construct validity. The correlations among the tested questionnaire, QLQ-CIPN20 and CTCAE were compared for the criterion validity analysis. Wilcoxon signed-rank sum test was utilized to compare the sensitivity between the tested questionnaire and QLQ-CIPN20. RESULT A 20-item CIPN assessment tool named chemotherapy-induced peripheral neuropathy integrated assessment - oxaliplatin subscale (CIPNIA-OS) was developed. The validation phase included 186 patients. Cronbach's α coefficient of CIPNIA-OS was 0.764 (> 0.7), and ICC was 0.997 (between 0.9 and 1). The structure of CIPNIA-OS containing seven factors was examined. The correlation coefficient between CIPNIA-OS and CTCAE was 0.661 (95%CI 0.623 to 0.695), which was significantly higher than that between QLQ-CIPN20 and CTCAE (0.417, 95%CI 0.363 to 0.469, p < 0.01). Besides, the total score of CIPNIA-OS was mostly higher than QLQ-CIPN20, with an average difference of 2.189 (CI 95% 2.056 to 2.322), and the difference gradually expanded with the progress of chemotherapy (p < 0.05). CONCLUSION This study developed an original CIPN questionnaire which was dedicated for OIPN assessment. It was a comprehensive tool that covered acute OIPN symptoms and integrated features from several proven CIPN assessment tools. The validation results supported that CIPNIA-OS had satisfactory reliability, stability, construct, criterion validity, and was more accuracy and sensitive than QLQ-CIPN20 in the evaluation of OIPN.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) has spread rapidly since 2019, and the number of reports regarding long COVID has increased. Although the distribution of long COVID depends on patient characteristics, epidemiological data on Japanese patients are limited. Hence, this study aimed to investigate the distribution of long COVID in Japanese patients. This study is the first nationwide Japanese prospective cohort study on long COVID. METHODS This multicenter, prospective cohort study enrolled hospitalized COVID-19 patients aged ≥18 years at 26 Japanese medical institutions. In total, 1200 patients were enrolled. Clinical information and patient-reported outcomes were collected from medical records, paper questionnaires, and smartphone applications. RESULTS We collected data from 1066 cases with both medical records and patient-reported outcomes. The proportion of patients with at least one symptom decreased chronologically from 93.9% (947/1009) during hospitalization to 46.3% (433/935), 40.5% (350/865), and 33.0% (239/724) at 3, 6, and 12 months, respectively. Patients with at least one long COVID symptom showed lower quality of life and scored higher on assessments for depression, anxiety, and fear of COVID-19. Female sex, middle age (41-64 years), oxygen requirement, and critical condition during hospitalization were risk factors for long COVID. CONCLUSIONS This study elucidated the symptom distribution and risks of long COVID in the Japanese population. This study provides reference data for future studies of long COVID in Japan.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Although the necessity of upper limb (UL) (dys)function assessment in people with Multiple Sclerosis (pwMS) has been demonstrated in recent years, this is still neglected at an early-stage. OBJECTIVE The aim of our study was to comprehensively examine bilateral UL in early-stage pwMS who are thought to have no or minimal involvement in activities of daily living for the UL. METHODS UL muscle strength, sensation and dexterity of 44 pwMS (EDSS score<4, disease duration<5 years, who did not report problems in daily living activities specifically for the UL) were evaluated bilaterally and compared with 44 healthy controls (HC). The relationship between UL function and muscle strength, sensation, cognitive function, fatigue, mood status, participation, EDSS, and disease duration were examined. The results of the outcome measures evaluating the UL function objectively and subjectively were analyzed. RESULTS Muscle strength, sensation and dexterity were similar in the dominant and nondominant extremities of pwMS and were affected compared to HC. A fair relationship was found between UL function and proximal muscle strength, fatigue, cognitive function, home participation and EDSS. According to the cut-off value (18 s) of Nine Hole Peg Test, only 9.09% of pwMS was unaffected, but 79.54% of affected pwMS had a full ABILHAND score. CONCLUSION Early-stage pwMS are unaware of the dysfunction since their UL involvement does not affect their daily living activities yet. Patient-reported outcome measures such as ABILHAND can be misleading and have a ceiling effect in the early-stage of the disease. Objective functional evaluations reveal that UL capacity is affected from the early period. Even if pwMS do not report UL involvement, clinicians and researchers should evaluate UL function and include it in the treatment program from an early-stage to prevent further disease burden.

Abstract
PURPOSE To analyze the association between change in knee joint line obliquity (KJLO) and patient-reported outcome, radiological progression of osteoarthritis, and surgical survival after lateral closing-wedge high tibial osteotomy (HTO). METHODS A cohort of 180 patients treated in one single hospital with lateral closing-wedge HTO was examined. KJLO was defined by the medial proximal tibial angle (MPTA). To assess the association between KJLO and patient-reported outcome, radiological progression of osteoarthritis, and surgical survival, patient groups were defined: I, postoperative MPTA < 95.0°; II, postoperative MPTA ≥ 95.0°; A, MPTA change < 8.0°; B, MPTA change ≥ 8.0°. Propensity score matching was used for between-groups (I and II, A and B) covariates matching, including age, gender, preoperative lower limb alignment, preoperative medial joint space width (mJSW), preoperative Western Ontario and McMaster Universities osteoarthritis Index (WOMAC) score, wedge size, and postoperative follow-up time. Patient-reported outcome was assessed by the WOMAC questionnaire, radiological progression of osteoarthritis by mJSW and Kellgren-Lawrence (KL) grade progression (≥ 1) preoperatively and at follow-ups (> 2 years). Failure was defined as revision HTO or conversion to knee arthroplasty. RESULTS After propensity score matching, groups I and II contained 58 pairs of patients and groups A and B contained 50 pairs. There were no significant differences in postoperative WOMAC score or surgical failure rate between groups I and II or between groups A and B (p > 0.05). However, the postoperative mJSW was significantly lower in group I than group II (3.2 ± 1.6 mm vs 3.9 ± 1.8 mm; p = 0.018) and in group A than group B (3.0 ± 1.7 mm vs 3.7 ± 1.5 mm; p = 0.040). KL grade progression rate was significantly higher in group I than group II (53.4% vs 29.3%; p = 0.008) and in group A than group B (56.0% vs 28.0%; p = 0.005). CONCLUSION Increased KJLO (postoperative MPTA ≥ 95.0°) or MPTA change ≥ 8.0° after lateral closing-wedge HTO does not adversely affect patient-reported outcome, radiological progression of osteoarthritis, or surgical survival at an average 5-year follow-up. Abstract
Objective This study aims to investigate the potential benefits of integrating patient-reported outcomes (PROs) into routine clinical practice for patients undergoing active anticancer treatment. Methods We conducted a comprehensive systematic review of randomized controlled trials involving cancer patients undergoing active anticancer treatment, spanning various cancer types and stages. The review covered four electronic databases (Medline, EMBASE, Cochrane Library, and CINAHL) up to September 2022. Key inclusion criteria focused on the incorporation of PROs as a routine intervention. Bias assessment followed the Cochrane collaboration's criteria, while the synthesis of results utilized effect size measurements (Cohen's d). The study adhered to the Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses guidelines. Results Out of 1549 initially screened records, 16 published randomized controlled trials encompassing 5300 patients met the inclusion criteria. The interventions involved 18 different PROs measurements, with prominent tools being EORTC QLQ-C30 (utilized in four trials) and PRO-CTCAE (utilized in four trials). Measured endpoints included overall quality of life (12 trials), physical health (11 trials), mental health (7 trials), and social health (5 trials). Overall, the study revealed a limited number of statistically significant findings, with predominantly small to moderate effect sizes associated with the interventions. Conclusions The findings suggest that the routine integration of PROs into clinical practice does not yield definitive advantages in terms of PROs. It is apparent that further efforts are necessary to ascertain the impact of these interventions on patient health. Abstract
The Boston Carpal Tunnel Questionnaire is one of the most popular patient-reported outcome measures designed specifically for people with idiopathic median neuropathy at the carpal tunnel. We used electrophysiological and ultrasound measures of median neuropathy from one hand in 185 people to create a single measure of median neuropathy severity as a continuum (through exploratory factor analysis). We assessed if our single measure of median neuropathy severity is independently associated with Boston Carpal Tunnel Questionnaire item groupings. Median neuropathy severity measured as a continuum had modest independent associations with Boston Carpal Tunnel Questionnaire magnitude of capability (adjusted R2 0.063) and paraesthesia intensity (adjusted R2 0.12) items but not with items related to pain intensity. Considering the lack of association of Boston Carpal Tunnel Questionnaire pain items with objective pathophysiology, combined with their notable association with mental health measures in previous studies, it is probably best to omit items related to pain.Level of evidence: III.

Abstract
The delivery of dermatology services has undergone dramatic changes in the past century. The goals and timelines of care have evolved as have the diagnostic and therapeutic tools, resulting in the need to capture and manage information differently, both qualitatively and quantitatively. The predominant and basic office-based ambulatory care model has remained relatively unchanged. Patients and providers interact with minimal pre-visit preparation using the "agenda-less" meeting model. This care model is ill-suited to manage the vastly expanded data capture and processing requirement of twenty-first century dermatology. We have developed novel tools to automate pre-visit data collection which allows for more robust information capture which moves data capture outside of the time-constrained clinic visit. These tools capture structured data, integrate into electronic health records, and create summary reports in real time to assist decision-making. These tools, if scaled, can facilitate the information management needs of dermatology care.

Abstract
Purpose This registry study compares the patient-reported outcomes of 3 treatments for Dupuytren´s disease: open fasciectomy (OF), collagenase injection (CCH) and percutaneous needle fasciotomy (PNF). Methods From the Swedish national quality registry for hand surgery (HAKIR) we included 2,585 procedures (in 2,414 patients): 1,200 treatments were OF, 918 CCH, and 467 PNF. The choice between CCH and PNF varied mainly because of regional differences in reimbursement of CCH. We report the results of the validated patient-reported outcome instrument HQ-8. HQ-8 evaluates symptoms in the treated hand and is issued before treatment, 3 and 12 months after treatment and is used for all patients in HAKIR. Results At 3-month follow-up, patients treated with CCH or PNF experienced less stiffness, weakness, numbness, tingling and sensitivity to cold. At 12 months, the differences among the 3 treatments were smaller, but CCH patients experienced less stiffness and weakness compared to PNF-treated patients. Conclusions Most randomized controlled trials have not shown significant differences in recurrence rates or patient-reported outcomes between CCH and PNF, but the number of patients has been limited and no randomized controlled trials have included all 3 treatments. In the present study, we compared registry data on patient-reported outcomes for OF, CCH, and PNF in a real-life clinical setting. Our results confirm that the noninvasive treatments (CCH and PNF) cause less disability than OF and indicate a possible advantage of CCH compared to PNF regarding stiffness and weakness at 1 year after treatment based on patient-reported outcomes. Patient-reported residual symptoms are important to consider when informing patients and selecting treatment for Dupuytren´s disease. Type of study/level of evidence Observational registry study III.

Abstract
Oculopharyngeal muscular dystrophy (OPMD) is a rare late-onset muscle disease associated with progressive dysphagia. As there was no patient-reported outcome measure specific for the assessment of dysphagia in OPMD, the Dysphagiameter was developed. The Food and Drug Administration guidance was followed. In Phase 1, a systematic literature review and an expert consultation were conducted to identify the concepts of interest. It was decided that the instrument should assess difficulty swallowing using pictures of foods of various textures (part A) and impact of dysphagia on activities and participation (part B), as defined by the International Classification of Functioning, Disability and Health. In Phase 2, focus groups (n = 3) and online surveys (n = 55) were conducted to generate the items. Then, the food items for part A were selected and grouped into 17 textures by a panel of registered dietitians. Cognitive interviews were conducted (n = 23) to refine the instrument and assess its clarity and comprehensiveness. The final draft included 82 food items assessing the capacity to swallow foods and drinks (part A) and 10 items assessing the impact of dysphagia on activities and participation (part B). Item reduction and assessment of psychometrics properties, using Rasch analysis, are ongoing as part of Phase 3.
