Abstract
Objective: The Systemic Therapy Inventory of Change (STIC) is a systemic measurement feedback system that provides therapists with feedback regarding the multidimensional clinical change in individual, couple, and family therapy. The STIC Intersession scales include Individual Problems and Strengths (IPS), Relationship with Partner (RWP), Family/Household (FH), and Child Problems and Strengths (CPS). They are administered to clients before each therapy session. The purpose of the current study is to investigate the STIC Intersession scales' sensitivity to change, the ability to detect reliable and valid changes that occur after an intervention. Method: Participants (N = 583) who voluntarily received individual, couple, or family therapy services in a randomized clinical trial attended the study. Results: By comparing the changes in pre-therapy and post-therapy scores of the STIC Intersession scales with those of the corresponding reference measures, the external sensitivity to change of the STIC Intersession scales was supported. The IPS Intersession scale showed greater change than the Beck Anxiety Inventory. However, no evidence supported the discriminant validity of CPS's change scores. Conclusion: Thus, the STIC Intersession IPS, RWP, and FH can be validly used to assess multi-systemic changes in both research and clinical work.

Abstract
Background The criteria for significant bronchodilator responsiveness (BDR) were published in 2005 by the European Respiratory Society/American Thoracic Society, which were revised in 2021, however, data on the agreement between these two recommendations in untreated patients with airflow limitation are missing. Aims We aimed to study BDR to salbutamol (SABA) or ipratropium bromide (SAMA) in patients with suspected bronchial asthma or COPD at initial clinical presentation using the 2005 and 2021 criteria and explore clinical factors associated with BDR+. Methods Symptomatic, treatment-naïve patients with expiratory airflow limitation (n = 105, 57 men, age (mean ± standard deviation): 65 ± 10 years) underwent BDR testing with 400 mcg salbutamol (day 1) or 80 mcg ipratropium bromide (day 2) and BDR was measured after 15 and 30 minutes. Clinical factors with risk for BDR+ were assessed with binomial logistic regression analysis. Results We found a good agreement between the number of 2005-BDR+ and 2021-BDR+ patients at 15 and 30 minutes post-salbutamol and post-ipratropium (88.6-94.8%). More patients showed BDR+ after 30 minutes than following 15 minutes using either criterion. When results at 30 minutes are considered, the number of patients with 2005-BDR+ (82%) was higher than that of 2021-BDR+ (75%), with the proportion of SAMA+ patients being higher than that of SABA+ (2005: 70% vs. 49%, Fisher exact p < 0.01; 2021: 64% vs. 41%, p = 0.001). 2005-BDR+ and 2021-BDR+ to SABA were associated with decreasing pre-BD FEV1% predicted and the presence of cough. More patients with asthma were in the SABA+ group compared to the SAMA+ group (2005: 71% vs. 53%, Fischer exact p = 0.04; 2021: 77% vs. 52%, p = 0.02). Conclusions Fewer patients show BDR+ according to the 2021 criteria in comparison with the 2005 recommendations, and protocols for BDR testing may consider the assessment of response to both SABA and SAMA after 30 minutes.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE Economic evaluations of treatments help to inform decisions on allocating health care resources. These evaluations involve comparing costs and effectiveness in terms of quality of life. To calculate quality-adjusted life years, generic health related quality of life is often used, but is criticized for not being sensitive to change in mental health populations. Another approach, using experienced well-being measured through capabilities with the ICECAP-A, has been proposed as an alternative. The aim of this study was to investigate whether changes in individuals with eating disorder (ED) symptoms can be better captured using health related quality of life (EQ-5D-5L) or well-being (ICECAP-A). METHOD Measurements at two time points with an interval of 1 year were used from a sample of 233 participants with self-reported ED symptoms. An analysis of variance was used to test whether the EQ-5D-5L and ICECAP-A differed in sensitivity to change over time. In order to compare the two questionnaires in terms of clinically significant outcome, the reliable change index and clinical cut-off score were calculated. RESULTS The two questionnaires did not differ in sensitivity to change. More individuals had recovered but also more had deteriorated according to the EQ-5D-5L compared to the ICECAP. DISCUSSION The present study revealed no differences in sensitivity to change in health-related quality of life or well-being in individuals with ED symptoms in the context of mild clinical change. Results corroborated the pervasiveness of low quality of life in this population, even after alleviation of ED symptoms. PUBLIC SIGNIFICANCE STATEMENT Measuring treatment benefits in terms of improvements in quality of life is an integral part of economic evaluations in health care. It was expected that these treatment benefits would be better captured as changes in well-being (measured with the ICECAP-A) than as changes in health-related quality of life (measured with the EQ-5D-5L) for individuals with ED symptoms. Based on the results of this study, no preference for one of the two approaches was found.

Abstract
OBJECTIVES The childhood bladder and bowel dysfunction questionnaire (CBBDQ) was previously found feasible, structurally valid, with good internal consistency. The purpose of this study was to evaluate the remaining measurement properties according to the COnsensus-based Standards for the selection of health Measurement INstruments (COSMIN). METHODS A prospective cohort study among parents of children aged 5-12 years was conducted. Calculated were the area under the curve (AUC) (criterion validity, responsiveness, interpretability) and intra-class correlation coefficients (ICCagreement ) (construct validity and test-retest reliability). RESULTS One hundred and seventy-two parents were included from March 2019 to April 2021. Correlating the bladder subscales of the CBBDQ with the Vancouver symptom score for dysfunctional elimination (VSSDES) and proxy-reported pediatric incontinence quality of life (p-PinQ) showed convergent validity (ICCsagreement : 0.76 and 0.74). Divergent validity was found when correlating the bowel subscales of the CBBDQ with the VSSDES (ICCagreement : 0.52). Excellent criterion validity (AUC: 0.98); excellent test-retest reliability (ICCagreement : 0.94) and, at 6 months, fair responsiveness (AUC: 0.74) were found. The minimal important change was 4.5, with cut-off value of 11. CONCLUSION The CBBDQ has been developed according to COSMIN standards. The items were defined using the consensus-based ICCS standards and Rome-III criteria. The measurement properties were identified using enough participants. Although interpretability is not considered a measurement property, interpretability aspects are reported here as they refer to what instrument scores mean. The 18-item-CBBDQ met the measurement properties of validity, reliability, and responsiveness, as defined by COSMIN. The CBBDQ is suitable for self-administration by parents, and completion takes little time.

Abstract
Improving parental sensitivity is an important objective of interventions to support families. This study examined reliability and validity of parental sensitivity ratings using a novel package of an e-learning tool and an interactive decision tree provided through a mobile application, called the OK! package. Independent raters assessed parental sensitivity using the OK! package (N = 11 raters) and the NICHD Parental Sensitivity rating scales (N = 22 raters) on the basis of videotaped mother-child interactions at 10- or 12-months-old (N = 294) and at 24-months-old (N = 204) from the Dutch longitudinal cohort study Generation2 . Mothers reported on children's externalizing and internalizing problems and social competence when children were 4 and 7 years old. Results showed excellent single interrater reliability for raters using the OK! package (mean ICC = .79), and strong evidence for convergent validity at 10- or 12-month-old (r = .57) and 24-month-old (r = .65). Prospective associations of neither parental sensitivity rated using the OK! package or the NICHD Parental Sensitivity rating scales with child developmental outcomes were statistically significant (p > .05), with overlapping 95% confidence intervals for both measures. The OK! package provides a promising direction for testing alternatives to current training and instruction modalities.

Abstract
The controlled peptide self-assembly and disassembly are not only implicated in many cellular processes but also possess huge application potential in a wide range of biotechnology and biomedicine. β-sheet peptide assemblies possess high kinetic stability, so it is usually hard to disassemble them rapidly. Here, we reported that both the self-assembly and disassembly of a designed short β-sheet peptide IIIGGHK could be well harnessed through the variations of concentration, pH, and mechanical stirring. Microscopic imaging, neutron scattering, and infrared spectroscopy were used to track the assembly and disassembly processes upon these stimuli, especially the interconversion between thin, left-handed protofibrils and higher-order nanotubes with superstructural right-handedness. The underlying rationale for these controlled disassembly processes mainly lies in the fact that the specific His-His interactions between protofibrils were responsive to these stimuli. By taking advantage of the peptide self-assembly and disassembly, the encapsulation of the hydrophobic drug curcumin and its rapid release upon stimuli were achieved. Additionally, the peptide hydrogels facilitated the differentiation of neural cells while maintaining low cell cytotoxicity. We believe that such dynamic and reversible structural transformation in this work provides a distinctive paradigm for controlling the peptide self-assembly and disassembly, thus laying a foundation for practical applications of peptide assemblies.

Abstract
Effective monitoring of the time-temperature history of biological reagents, chemical drugs, and perishable foods during cold chain storage is crucial for ensuring their quality and efficacy. Time-temperature indicators (TTIs) are developed to assess the cumulative impact of time and temperature on product quality. However, current indicators face challenges related to complex wrapping procedures, narrow tracking ranges, susceptibility to photobleaching, and pre-use instability, hampering widespread use. Herein, the first moisture-responsive 1D photonic crystal (1DPC) TTIs featuring robust structural colors, customizable time-temperature ranges, and reliable renewability are demonstrated. The indicators exhibit distinct color-changing responsiveness toward water vapor, which remains observable after prolonged storage at low temperatures. Significantly, the moisture responsiveness gradually diminishes at elevated temperatures over time due to ambient water-induced hydrogen bond formation, effectively shielding the indicator from external stimuli. This property enables the naked-eye inspection of product efficacy during cold chain storage. Additionally, the endowed flexibility of the TTI facilitates its easy attachment to targets, functioning as a convenient indicator label. Remarkably, the indicator can be stably stored for an extended period at room temperature before use, thereby showcasing substantial market potential.

Abstract
Research has indicated the critical role of responsiveness in facilitating close relationships, but what communication leads to enhanced responsiveness has not been fully explored. We hypothesized that gratitude and apologies facilitate responsiveness within friendship relationships in Japan. In Experiment 1 (n = 669), receiving gratitude, apologies, or both gratitude and apologies increased recipients' perceptions of the expresser's responsiveness more than receiving a message without either gratitude or apologies. In Experiment 2 (n = 139), the participants who received gratitude as well as receiving both gratitude and apologies (but not just apologies) wrote more responsive messages back to the expresser than those who received a message without either gratitude or apologies. Gratitude and apologies played unique roles in promoting responsiveness within friendship relationships.

Abstract
Social media has been an increasingly utilized communication tool, and it has gained popularity among adolescent athletes. Our aim here was to investigate whether a positive and honest self-presentation on social media increased adolescent athletes' self-esteem, and we examined the moderating effect of perceived responsiveness. After receiving informed consent of participants and their parents/legal guardians, we recruited 468 adolescent athletes/participants (244 males, 224 females; Mage = 15.39 years, SD = 1.61) through purposive sampling and engaged them in completing face-to-face or online self-report measures of their: (a) self-presentation on social media, (b) perceived responsiveness of others, and (c) Rosenberg self-esteem scales. Given the continuous nature of our moderating variable (i.e., perceived responsiveness), we conducted regression analysis using Hayes's PROCESS macro in SPSS software. A positive self-presentation showed no significant relationship with self-esteem, except when the level of perceived responsiveness was high. Conversely, an honest self-presentation was positively related to higher self-esteem, and the relationship between honest self-presentation and self-esteem was moderated by perceived responsiveness. Our findings extend existing psychological theory into the online environment and have practical implications. These data highlight the link between social media self-presentation and self-esteem among adolescent athletes and illustrate the crucial role of perceived responsiveness in the social media context.

Abstract
PURPOSE To investigate the responsiveness and minimal clinically important difference (MCID) of the Functional Independence Measure (FIM) from a clinician's perspective in hip-fractured elderly undergoing inpatient rehabilitation. MATERIALS AND METHODS Data of 701 hip-fractured elderly admitted to our rehabilitation institute were retrospectively collected. Ten a priori hypotheses were formulated. RESULTS The effect size of the FIM scores after treatment were large (total = 1.38, motor = 1.78). Moderate correlations were found between the change total score of FIM and Barthel Index (BI, rs = 0.51), Functional Ambulation Categories (FAC, rs = 0.52) and a checklist regarding participants' independence in transfers (rs = 0.59). The area under the receiving operating characteristics were 0.82, 0.81, and 0.85 when BI, FAC and checklist were used as anchors, respectively. Based on these findings, the FIM showed high responsiveness (9/10 hypotheses met). Triangulation of findings showed that MCIDs of 22 and 21 points were the most appropriate for the FIM total and motor score, respectively. CONCLUSIONS The FIM scale is appropriate for assessing independence and functional recovery in hip-fractured elderly. Improvements of 22 and 21 points at the total and motor FIM were identified as indicators of minimal clinical change in those admitted to a rehabilitation facility with an FIM total score between 40 and 80.

Abstract
Research into the impact of companion animals on well-being has been both extensive and inconclusive, with studies finding both positive and negative relationships. The present research explored three previously unexamined relationship science concepts that may help clarify whether companion animals provide well-being benefits: self-expansion (the process of adding positive content to the self through incorporating new resources and perspectives into one's identity or engaging in novel, exciting activities), perceived pet responsiveness, and perceived pet insensitivity; as well as attachment. We focused on dog and cat owners' depression, anxiety, positive and negative affect, and loneliness through an online survey with a large sample population (N = 1359). We found that perceived pet insensitivity is a significant positive predictor of depression, anxiety, negative affect, and loneliness; that attachment is a significant positive predictor of depression, anxiety, and loneliness, and a significant negative predictor of positive affect; and that self-expansion is a significant positive predictor of positive affect, and a significant negative predictor of loneliness. Loneliness emerged as a mediator in the relationship between perceived pet insensitivity, attachment, self-expansion, and all mental well-being outcome variables. These findings indicate that perceived pet insensitivity, attachment, and self-expansion may play an important yet neglected role in well-being outcomes.

Abstract
Functional assessments are crucial for the evaluation of rehabilitation after total knee (TKA) and hip (THA) arthroplasty. Muscle strength, a key determinant of physical function (PF), is often measured with isokinetic dynamometry (ID), which is considered the gold standard. However, studies lack evaluations of responsiveness-the ability to detect changes over time. This study aims to determine the responsiveness of ID in measuring PF in TKA and THA rehabilitation-is muscle strength a valid indicator for assessing improvement in rehabilitation processes? The pre- and post-surgery PF of 20 osteoarthritis patients (age 55-82) was assessed, using ID, performance-based and self-reported measures. Responsiveness was evaluated by comparing the observed relationship of changes in ID and PF scores with the a priori defined expected relationship of change scores. While the performance-based and self-reported measures showed significant improvements post-surgery (Cohen's d [0.42, 1.05] p < 0.05), ID showed no significant differences. Moderate correlations were found between changes in some ID parameters and selected functional tests (r ≈|0.5|, p < 0.05). Responsiveness was solely found for the peak torque of knee extension at 180°/s on the operated side. Responsiveness is an often-overlooked psychometric property of outcome measurements. The findings suggest that ID may not be fully responsive to the construct of PF after TKA and THA, raising questions about its role and usefulness in this context and the need for more appropriate assessment methods.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Fatigue is highly prevalent in people with inflammatory bowel disease (IBD). Fatigue scales are important for studies testing fatigue interventions, but information about psychometric properties of many scales is insufficient in IBD. We compared the psychometric properties of multiple generic fatigue scales in participants with IBD. METHODS Individuals with IBD (N = 216) completed the Daily Fatigue Impact Scale (DFIS), the vitality subscale of the RAND-36, and the Patient Health Questionnaire-9 (PHQ-9) fatigue item twice. A subgroup (n = 84) also completed the Fatigue Impact Scale (FIS) once, from which we also scored the 21 items from the Modified Fatigue Impact Scale (MFIS-IBD). We assessed floor/ceiling effects, construct validity, and internal consistency reliability. Using relative efficiency (RE), we compared discriminating ability and comparative responsiveness of the measures regarding disease activity and employment status and changes. RESULTS The FIS, MFIS, and RAND-36-vitality scales did not exhibit floor or ceiling effects. The DFIS showed mild floor effects (19.4%), and the PHQ-9 fatigue item showed floor (18.1%) and ceiling (20.8%) effects. Internal consistency reliability exceeded 0.93 for FIS, MFIS-IBD, and DFIS and was 0.81 for the RAND-36-vitality scale. In the subgroup analysis, the FIS, MFIS-IBD, and DFIS were strongly correlated with each other (r ≥ 0.90). The ability to discriminate between disease activity groups was highest for the FIS and MFIS-IBD, followed by the DFIS. The FIS, MFIS-IBD, and DFIS were responsive to changes in work impairment. CONCLUSIONS The FIS, MFIS-IBDs and DFIS had adequate validity and reliability for assessing fatigue in IBD.

Abstract
Introduction The presence of a neurodevelopmental disability (ND) represents an adverse condition for child's development and parent-child relationship, and it is reasonable to assume that the severity of delay may influence parenting behavior. Previous research, however, did not specifically address this issue. Methods This cross-sectional study compared parental behaviors of mothers of toddlers with moderate/severe or mild/borderline developmental delay and mothers of toddlers with typical development, while considering maternal emotional states. A total of 88 dyads with children aged between 12 and 47 months participated in a 10-min video-recorded interaction then coded with the PICCOLO, a validated observation checklist that assesses four dimensions of parenting: affection, responsiveness, encouragement, and teaching. The mothers also fulfilled two standardized questionnaires assessing parental stress and presence of depressive symptoms. MANOVA and MANCOVA models were used to explore between-group differences in specific parenting dimensions, also considering parental stress. Results Mothers of toddlers with ND were less responsive than the comparison group, while the presence of a moderate/severe developmental delay specifically affected teaching behaviors. No differences emerged for affection and encouragement behaviors. Importantly, although mothers of toddlers with moderate/severe ND reported higher child-related dysfunctional interaction stress, this did not directly affect parenting behaviors. Discussion These findings highlight how the presence of a disability and the severity of developmental delay can affect specific dimensions of parenting (i.e., responsiveness, teaching) and might inform clinical practice and research on early parental interventions.

Abstract
Introduction The aim of this study was to compare the clinical applicability of the Mini-Balance Evaluation Systems Test and the Berg Balance Scale for measuring balance in inpatients with subacute stroke. Methods This was a prospective observational study which included 58 consecutive patients admitted to a convalescent rehabilitation hospital with a first-ever stroke and who met the inclusion/exclusion criteria. The Mini-Balance Evaluation Systems Test and the Berg Balance Scale were used to assess patient balance at admission and discharge. The ceiling and floor effects and responsiveness of each balance score were examined. In addition, receiver operating characteristic analysis based on each balance score at admission was used to examine its discriminative power to predict ambulatory independence and falls during hospitalization. Results The mean (standard deviation) change between admission and discharge for each balance scale was 4.4 (4.7) for the Mini-Balance Evaluation Systems Test and 8.3 (10.0) for the Berg Balance Scale, with standard response means, a measure of responsiveness of 0.9 (large) and 0.8 (medium), respectively. Each balance score at admission almost equally predicted gait independence and fallers during hospitalization. On the contrary, only the distribution of scores on the Berg Balance Scale at discharge showed a ceiling effect, with 25 patients (43%) obtaining a perfect score. Discussion The Mini-Balance Evaluation Systems Test may be useful as a balance measure for inpatients with subacute stroke because it is less susceptible to ceiling effects and more responsive than the Berg Balance Scale.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE In 2022, Pakistan witnessed unprecedented flooding, submerging one-third of the country under-water, ruining millions of houses, taking lives, afflicted injuries, and displacing scores of people. Our study documents not only the public health problems that have arisen due to this natural calamity but also the state of health systems' response. METHODS We conducted a qualitative study asking key questions around prevalent health problems, health-care seeking, government's response, resource mobilization, and roadmap for the future. We purposively selected 16 key frontline health workers for in-depth interviews. RESULTS Waterborne and infectious diseases were rampant posing huge public health challenges. Disaster mitigation efforts and relief operations were delayed and not at scale to cover the entire affected population. Moreover, a weak economy, poverty, and insufficient livelihoods compounded the tribulations of floods. Issues of leadership and governance at state level resulted in disorganized efforts and response. CONCLUSIONS Pakistan is famous for its philanthropy; however, lack of transparency and accountability, the actual benefits seldom reach the beneficiaries. Such climatic disasters necessitate a more holistic approach and a greater responsiveness of the health system. In addition to health services, the state must respond to financial, social, and infrastructural needs of the people suffering from the calamity.

Abstract
The development and synthesis of hydrogels for chemical and biosensing are of great value. Hydrogels can be tailored to its own physical structure, chemical properties, biocompatibility, and sensitivity to external stimuli when being used in a specific environment. Herein, hydrogels and their applications in chemical and biosensing are mainly covered. In particular, it is focused on the manner in which hydrogels serve as sensing materials to a specific analyte. Different types of responsive hydrogels are hence introduced and summarized. Researchers can modify different chemical groups on the skeleton of the hydrogels, which make them as good chemical and biosensing materials. Hydrogels have great application potential for chemical and biosensing in the biomedical field and some emerging fields, such as wearable devices.

Abstract
BACKGROUND This study aimed to assess the responsiveness of the Trapeziometacarpal Arthrosis Symptoms and Disability (TASD) questionnaire after corticosteroid injections and operative management for trapeziometacarpal osteoarthritis (TMC-OA). METHODS This longitudinal cohort study included patients with TMC-OA who underwent treatment (corticosteroid injection or surgery). Measurements occurred at baseline and follow-up time points: 6 weeks, 3 months, 6 months, and 1 year. Patient measures were collected electronically using a data repository platform. The TASD is a validated psychometric patient-administered scale. We examined responsiveness by correlating the TASD scores with another known effective indicator of change (shortened Disabilities of the Arm, Shoulder, and Hand [QuickDASH]). Repeated score measurements over time were analyzed using analysis of variance, and correlations between questionnaires were reported with repeated measures correlation and Pearson correlation coefficients. RESULTS The nonsurgical cohort undergoing corticosteroid injections included 31 (66%) women and 16 (34%) men, and the surgical cohort included 29 (71%) women and 12 (29%) men. Both the QuickDASH and the TASD captured a statistically significant improvement in symptom burden postoperatively (P < .0001 for both questionnaires), whereas no statistical significance was noted after corticosteroid injections (P = .45 and P = .34, respectively). There was a strong correlation between QuickDASH and TASD questionnaires (r = 0.87, P < .0001). CONCLUSIONS The TASD is a promising TMC-OA-specific questionnaire to capture responsiveness following treatment, particularly following surgery. The responsiveness of TASD was demonstrated in the TMC-OA cohort. Further research is needed to define a minimal clinically important difference.

Abstract
PURPOSE Previous reviews produced weak evidence regarding the responsiveness of the Inflammatory Bowel Disease Questionnaire (IBDQ-32) to changes in ulcerative colitis (UC) health indicators. This systematic review and meta-analysis provide an updated synthesis on IBDQ-32 responsiveness. METHODS A systematic literature review identified 11 articles reporting IBDQ-32 responder analyses in randomized control trials, which were included in a random effects meta-analysis, and 15 articles linking IBDQ-32 change to change in UC health indicators, which were summarized narratively. Meta-analysis compared differences between IBDQ-32 responder proportions in efficacious and nonefficacious treatment arms relative to placebo. Linear meta-regression examined the association of treatment efficacy and proportions of IBDQ-32 responders in active treatment compared with placebo. RESULTS Meta-analysis showed larger differences in IBDQ-32 response proportions between active treatment and placebo for efficacious treatments (pooled OR, 2.19; 95% CI, 1.83-2.63) than nonefficacious treatments (pooled OR, 1.21; 95% CI, 0.84-1.74; Cochran's Q[df = 1] = 8.26, P = .004). Meta-regression showed that the magnitude of treatment efficacy positively predicted IBDQ-32 response in active treatments relative to placebo (β = 0.21, P < .001). Moderate to strong correlations were found between change in IBDQ-32 and change in health indicators (eg, patient-reported measures, disease activity, endoscopic indices; correlations, 0.37-0.64 in absolute values). Patients achieving clinical response or remission showed greater change in IBDQ-32 total scores (range, 22.3-50.1 points) and more frequently met clinically meaningful thresholds on the IBDQ-32 than those not achieving clinical response or remission (all P < .05). CONCLUSIONS The IBDQ-32 is responsive to changes in UC health indicators and disease activity, including in response to efficacious treatment (relative to placebo).

Abstract
IMPORTANCE Aromatic compounds are globally abundant organic molecules with a multitude of natural and anthropogenic sources, underpinning the relevance of their biodegradation. A. aromaticum EbN1T is a well-studied environmental betaproteobacterium specialized on the anaerobic degradation of aromatic compounds. The here studied responsiveness toward phenol in conjunction with the apparent high ligand selectivity (non-promiscuity) of its PheR sensor and those of the related p-cresol (PcrS) and p-ethylphenol (EtpR) sensors are in accord with the substrate-specificity and biochemical distinctiveness of the associated degradation pathways. Furthermore, the present findings advance our general understanding of the substrate-specific regulation of the strain's remarkable degradation network and of the concentration thresholds below which phenolic compounds become essentially undetectable and as a consequence should escape substantial biodegradation. Furthermore, the findings may inspire biomimetic sensor designs for detecting and quantifying phenolic contaminants in wastewater or environments.

Abstract
INTRODUCTION Responsiveness of health care systems is a global concept defined as the ability of systems to function in a manner that meets the expectations of individuals, and is under-studied. In Australia, Aboriginal Community Controlled Health Organisations (ACCHOs) are valued by Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Peoples for the provision of holistic culturally safe primary health care and are well positioned to be responsive to community needs. OBJECTIVE To develop a conceptual framework examining the responsiveness of a rural ACCHO to the health care needs of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Peoples in their service region. DESIGN A qualitative interview study using abductive reasoning was conducted. Interviews conducted with Aboriginal clients, key informants, and ACCHO health personnel from two evaluations undertaken in partnership with a rural ACCHO located in Victoria, Australia, were analysed through an iterative process of identifying key concepts from the data and evidence. Key concepts were used to develop a conceptual framework. FINDINGS Across the two evaluations, 22 participants were involved in data collection and 28 interviews were undertaken. A conceptual framework examining the responsiveness of a rural ACCHO to the health care needs of Aboriginal Peoples within their service region was developed and encompassed three concepts: operating within a complex adaptive system, mechanisms of responsiveness used by the ACCHO, and challenges experienced by the ACCHO when being responsive. DISCUSSION The developed conceptual framework expands on research supporting the value of ACCHOs in providing holistic culturally safe health care to their communities, particularly in rural settings. A key finding is the importance for ACCHOs to meet the health care needs of their community whilst navigating needs in the context of the broader health care system. When dissonance is encountered between external system components and community needs, challenges can be experienced such as adequately resourcing models of service delivery and maintaining the provision of services. CONCLUSION Conceptualising the health care system as a complex adaptive system in which an ACCHO operates and is responsive, highlights the competing demands experienced. Findings expand on mechanisms of responsiveness used at the service-user interface. Future research should examine how the broader health care system can support the role and functions of ACCHOs in being responsive to the health care needs of their communities.

Abstract
BACKGROUND The aim of this study was to evaluate the responsiveness of different patient-reported outcome measures in patients with primary total knee arthroplasty (TKA). METHODS In this prospective observational study, we assessed patients with TKA before the surgery, after 4 months, after 1 year, and after 2 years. Measures were the objective Knee Society Score (KSS) and the following patient-reported outcome measures: Knee injury and Osteoarthritis Outcome Score (KOOS), KOOS-12, Forgotten Joint Score (FJS-12), High-Activity Arthroplasty Score, and EQ-5D-3L. Responsiveness was determined by effect size (ES), standardized response mean (SRM), area under the receiver operating characteristics curve, floor and ceiling effects, and hypothesis testing. RESULTS We analyzed data from 309 TKAs (272 patients, 56% female). The ES and SRM for the change in KSS, KOOS, KOOS-12, FJS-12, and EQ-5D-3L from baseline to each follow-up were large (>0.8). The largest responsiveness from baseline to follow-up was found for the KSS, KOOS/KOOS-12 quality of life, KOOS-12 summary, KOOS-12 pain, and FJS-12 (2.0 > ES <3.9, 1.4 > SRM <2.4). The area under the curve from baseline to each follow-up was ≥0.7 for KOOS, KOOS-12, and FJS-12 (range 0.71 to 0.95) and <0.7 for KSS and EQ-5D-3L (range 0.65 to 0.74). We found floor or ceiling effects in the KOOS, KOOS-12, and EQ-5D-3L, but not in the KSS, FJS-12, and High-Activity Arthroplasty Score. CONCLUSIONS Our study demonstrated that responsiveness differed between the various measures. The KOOS-12 and FJS-12 showed the greatest internal and external responsiveness, although ceiling effects occurred in the KOOS-12.

Abstract
OBJECTIVES The accurate assessment of Health-Related Quality of Life (HRQoL) in residents of residential care facilities (RCF) necessitates the use of proxy-reported instruments that possess robust psychometric properties. Generally, these instruments are modified versions of self-reported tools, with adjustments made to pronouns and instructions to better suit the respondent. Among such tools, the EQ-5D has emerged as a prominent instrument for evaluating HRQoL within RCF settings. This review aimed to synthesize evidence on psychometric properties of the proxy version of EQ-5D. DESIGN Systematic review and meta-analysis. SETTING AND PARTICIPANTS Residents in RCF. METHODS An extensive search was conducted across 8 databases, covering articles from inception to May 29, 2023. We included a total of 20 articles reporting data that can be used to evaluate psychometric properties of this instrument in RCF. The quality appraisal employed the COSMIN Risk of Bias checklist, and data synthesis followed COSMIN methodology. RESULTS Most of the included studies were conducted in Europe, with 75% using nursing staff as proxies. Missing data rates were 5% for EQ-5D and 26% for EQ VAS. Evidence of moderate certainty on construct validity of the EQ index was inconsistent, although the EQ VAS showed sufficient construct validity supported by high certainty. EQ index responsiveness evidence was limited, characterized by low certainty and inconsistency. Proxy-resident agreement ranged from poor to moderate, and improved with repeated administration for the "mobility" and "usual activities" dimensions. The lowest agreement was observed when staff served as proxies or the proxy-proxy perspective was adopted. CONCLUSIONS AND IMPLICATIONS This review offers an overview of the measurement properties of EQ-5D as a proxy HRQoL measure in RCF. The suboptimal evidence on psychometric properties of EQ-5D indicated the need for more validation studies and cautious use of the instrument in RCF.

Abstract
AbstractResponsiveness is currently a hot topic in the psychotherapy literature with a large variation in what the term means to colleagues of various orientations. This adds to its popularity but limits the scope of whatever is written or said about responsiveness. The fact that the meaning of responsiveness has developed over time within the approaches adds also to the variation, while an understanding of development has the potential of deepening the understanding of each approach. As a fair description and comparison of even just the most important approaches is by far out of reach for a page-limited article, the development of one approach, which may be termed the "Bernese" approach is described here, along with lessons learnt and general comments. The approach includes Plan Analysis case formulations, the concept of complementary or Motive-Oriented Relationship, a description of a combined qualitative and quantitative assessment, and many methodological and conceptual considerations. Personal development is woven in. Overall, it seems fair to say that this approach, at its core developed long before responsiveness became popular, has turned out to still be useful, with a gain in depth as far as concepts and assessment are concerned.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE We explored what predicts secondary school students' mindfulness practice and responsiveness to universal school-based mindfulness training (SBMT), and how students experience SBMT. METHOD A mixed-methods design was used. Participants were 4,232 students (11-13 years of age), in 43 UK secondary schools, who received universal SBMT (ie, ".b" program), within the MYRIAD trial (ISRCTN86619085). Following previous research, student, teacher, school, and implementation factors were evaluated as potential predictors of students' out-of-school mindfulness practice and responsiveness (ie, interest in and attitudes toward SBMT), using mixed-effects linear regression. We explored pupils' SBMT experiences using thematic content analysis of their answers to 2 free-response questions, 1 question focused on positive experiences and 1 question on difficulties/challenges. RESULTS Students reported practicing out-of-school mindfulness exercises on average once during the intervention (mean [SD] = 1.16 [1.07]; range, 0-5). Students' average ratings of responsiveness were intermediate (mean [SD] = 4.72 [2.88]; range, 0-10). Girls reported more responsiveness. High risk of mental health problems was associated with lower responsiveness. Asian ethnicity and higher school-level economic deprivation were related to greater responsiveness. More SBMT sessions and better quality of delivery were associated with both greater mindfulness practice and responsiveness. In terms of students' experiences of SBMT, the most frequent themes (60% of the minimally elaborated responses) were an increased awareness of bodily feelings/sensations and increased ability to regulate emotions. CONCLUSION Most students did not engage with mindfulness practice. Although responsiveness to the SMBT was intermediate on average, there was substantial variation, with some youth rating it negatively and others rating it positively. Future SBMT developers should consider co-designing curricula with students, carefully assessing the student characteristics, aspects of the school environment, and implementation factors associated with mindfulness practice and responsiveness. SBMT teacher training is key, as more observed proficiency in SBMT teaching is associated with greater student mindfulness practice and responsiveness to SBMT.

Abstract
Background The International Knee Documentation Committee Subjective Knee Form (IKDC-SKF) is a knee-specific patient-reported outcome (PRO) measure that is commonly used to evaluate patients with various knee disorders. The Thai version of the IKDC-SKF (Thai IKDC-SKF) was shown to have good validity and reliability; nonetheless, no data regarding its responsiveness are available. Purpose To evaluate the responsiveness of the Thai IKDC-SKF for assessing patients with anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) injury and determine the minimal clinically important difference (MCID) for this PRO measure. Study Design Cohort study (diagnosis); Level of evidence, 3. Methods This prospective study included ACL-injured patients who were scheduled for ACL reconstruction (ACLR) at a single institution. The patients completed the Thai IKDC-SKF at the baseline and the 6-month postoperative follow-up. The global rating of change scale was an anchor question that evaluated patients' overall perception of a clinical change compared with their preoperative condition. The effect size and standardized response mean were calculated. The MCID was identified with an anchor-based approach by plotting a receiver operating characteristic curve and calculating the value that maximized the Youden index. Results Of 59 enrolled patients, 53 patients (89.8%) completed the preoperative and 6-month postoperative Thai IKDC-SKF. The mean (±SD) age of the participants was 32.3 ± 10.3 years, and 86.8% were men. The mean Thai IKDC-SKF score improved significantly from preoperatively to the 6-month follow-up (from 56.3 ± 14.9 to 70.8 ± 14.1, respectively; P < .001), with an effect size of 0.975 and a standardized response mean of 0.977. A receiver operating characteristic curve was generated to determine the ability of the Thai IKDC-SKF to distinguish between improved patients and unimproved patients, and the area under the curve was 0.80 (95% CI, 0.68-0.92), which was considered excellent. The MCID was 15.5, which yielded a sensitivity and specificity of 0.55 and 1, respectively. Conclusion This study confirmed the responsiveness of the Thai IKDC-SKF for detecting a clinical change in ACL-injured patients after ACLR. The identified MCID of 15.5 can be used to calculate the significant clinical change and sample size in future studies.

Abstract
Cardiorespiratory fitness (CRF) is an excellent marker of overall health. This study aimed to assess criterion validity and responsiveness of estimated CRF models (eCRF) in patients with inflammatory joint disease (IJD). CRF was measured directly as peak oxygen uptake (VO2peak) by a Cardiopulmonary Exercise Test (CPET), while one generic eCRF model (eCRFGEN) and two disease-specific eCRF models (eCRFALT and eCRFPGA) were used to estimate CRF at baseline and after 3 months in 55 Norwegian patients with IJD. Moderate correlations were observed between eCRFGEN, eCRFALT, eCRFPGA, and VO2peak at baseline (ICC 0.60, 0.64 and 0.62, respectively) and 3 months (ICC 0.62, 0.65 and 0.57, respectively). All eCRF models overestimated measured VO2peak, and there was large variability in agreement of individual measurements at baseline and at 3 months. Weak correlations were observed for responsiveness of eCRFGEN (ICC 0.39), eCRFALT (ICC 0.40) and eCRFPGA (ICC 0.39). Mean differences between change in eCRF models and change in VO2peak were small, but the wide limits of agreement exceeded the pre-defined clinically acceptable margins. The eCRF models possessed adequate ability to detect ≥3.5 mL/kg/min improvement in VO2peak. eCRF may suffice for group-level assessment, but caution is advised when applying eCRF to individual patients with IJD.

Abstract
PURPOSE To evaluate and compare responsiveness characteristics for the Foot Function Index revised short form (FFI-RS), RAND-12 Health Status Inventory (RAND-12), and Numeric Rating Scale (NRS), in patients with plantar fasciopathy receiving non-surgical treatment. MATERIALS AND METHODS This study was conducted on a sub-group of patients from an ongoing randomised controlled trial. One-hundred fifteen patients were included. The patient-reported outcome measures (PROMs) were applied at baseline and after 6 months. Responsiveness was calculated using standardised response mean and area under the receiver operating characteristic (ROC) curve. ROC curves were used to compute the minimal important change (MIC) for the outcome measures. RESULTS The region specific FFI-RS had best responsiveness and the NRS at rest had lowest responsiveness. CONCLUSION FFI-RS were marginally more responsive than the other PROMs. Responsiveness and MIC estimates should be regarded as indicative rather than fixed estimates.

Abstract
This paper provides an overview of my research programme for the past 37 years. The focus of my work has been on identifying productive in-session processes to enhance treatment outcomes and therapist responsiveness. Two foci will be reviewed, first, my research on client and therapist interpersonal process and second, productive processing in psychotherapy in three different therapeutic approaches including EFT, CBT and CCT. Given that many competing theoretical perspectives are effective, I was curious about change processes that are common and unique to each. In my work, I employed a variety of research methodologies drawing on frameworks with alternative epistemological and ontological assumptions to capture specific in-session change processes in an attempt to reveal the richness and complexity of the phenomena being studied and illuminate the process of change.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Cortical excitability is higher in unconsciousness than in wakefulness, but it is unclear how this relates to anaesthesia. We investigated cortical excitability in response to dexmedetomidine, the effects of which are not fully known. METHODS We recorded transcranial magnetic stimulation (TMS) and EEG in frontal and parietal cortex of 20 healthy subjects undergoing dexmedetomidine sedation in four conditions (baseline, light sedation, deep sedation, recovery). We used the first component (0-30 ms) of the TMS-evoked potential (TEP) to measure cortical excitability (amplitude), slope, and positive and negative peak latencies (collectively, TEP indices). We used generalised linear mixed models to test the effect of condition, brain region, and responsiveness on TEP indices. RESULTS Compared with baseline, amplitude in the frontal cortex increased by 6.52 μV (P<0.001) in light sedation, 4.55 μV (P=0.003) in deep sedation, and 5.03 μV (P<0.001) in recovery. Amplitude did not change in the parietal cortex. Compared with baseline, slope increased in all conditions (P<0.02) in the frontal but not parietal cortex. The frontal cortex showed 5.73 μV higher amplitude (P<0.001), 0.63 μV ms-1 higher slope (P<0.001), and 2.2 ms shorter negative peak latency (P=0.001) than parietal areas. Interactions between dexmedetomidine and region had effects over amplitude (P=0.004) and slope (P=0.009), with both being higher in light sedation, deep sedation, and recovery compared with baseline. CONCLUSIONS Transcranial magnetic stimulation-evoked potential amplitude changes non-linearly as a function of depth of sedation by dexmedetomidine, with a region-specific paradoxical increase. Future research should investigate other anaesthetics to elucidate the link between cortical excitability and depth of sedation.

Abstract
Over the past decade, polymerization-induced self-assembly (PISA) has fully proved its versatility for scale-up production of block copolymer nanoparticles with tunable sizes and morphologies; yet, there are still some limitations. Recently, seeded PISA approaches combing PISA with heterogeneous seeded polymerizations have been greatly explored and are expected to overcome the limitations of traditional PISA. In this review, recent advances in seeded PISA that have expanded new horizons for PISA are highlighted including i) general considerations for seeded PISA (e.g., kinetics, the preparation of seeds, the selection of monomers), ii) morphological evolution induced by seeded PISA (e.g., from corona-shell-core nanoparticles to vesicles, vesicles-to-toroid, disassembly of vesicles into nanospheres), and iii) various well-defined nanoparticles with hierarchical and sophisticated morphologies (e.g., multicompartment micelles, porous vesicles, framboidal vesicles, AXn -type colloidal molecules). Finally, new insights into seeded PISA and future perspectives are proposed.

Abstract
Aims: Child maltreatment (CM) is a global public health and social problem, resulting in serious long-term health and socioeconomic consequences. As parents are the most common perpetrators of CM, parenting interventions are appropriate strategies to prevent CM. However, research on parenting interventions on CM has been hampered by lack of consensus on what measures are most responsive to detect a reduction in parental maltreating behaviours after parenting intervention. This systematic review aimed to evaluate the responsiveness of all current parent- or caregiver-reported CM measures. Methods: A systematic search was conducted in CINAHL, Embase, ERIC, PsycINFO, PubMed and Sociological Abstracts. The quality of studies and responsiveness of the measures were evaluated using the COnsensus-based Standards for the selection of health Measurement INstruments (COSMIN) guidelines for systematic reviews of patient-reported outcome measures. Only measures developed and published in English were included. Studies reporting data on responsiveness of the included measures were selected. Results: Sixty-nine articles reported on responsiveness of 15 identified measures. The study quality was overall adequate. The responsiveness of the measures was overall insufficient or not reported; high-quality evidence on responsiveness was limited. Conclusions: Only the Physical Abuse subscale of the ISPCAN Child Abuse Screening Tool for use in Trials (ICAST-Trial) can be recommended as most responsive for use in parenting interventions, with high-quality evidence supporting sufficient responsiveness. All other overall scales or subscales of the 15 included measures were identified as promising based on current data on responsiveness. Additional psychometric evidence is required before they can be recommended.

Abstract
Despite its popularity, The Five Love Languages relationship self-help book has received little empirical investigation. This may result in a disconnect between clinicians and clients with preconceived notions based on the book. The current research sought to evaluate love languages through the lens of responsiveness by examining if an accurate or biased understanding of partner preferences for different modes of affection were associated with enacted affectionate behavior, the perception of partner behavior, and relationship satisfaction. The results from a sample of 84 couples indicated that individuals tend to have a biased understanding of partner preferences and these biases influenced expressions of affection. In addition, accurately understanding partner preferences was associated with greater relationship satisfaction. The findings suggest that helping clients understand both their own and their partner's preferences for expressions of affection, may reduce bias and lead to more partner-preferred expressions of affection and, ultimately, greater relationship satisfaction.

Abstract
The primary aim of this study was to determine the minimal clinically important difference (MCID) for the EuroQol-5D questionnaire (EQ-5D-5L) index and visual analogic scale (VAS) in individuals experiencing long-term post-COVID-19 symptoms. In addition, it was pretended to determine which variable discriminates better and to compare changes between individuals classified by the MCID. DESIGN Secondary analysis of a randomized controlled trial involving 42 individuals who underwent an 8-week intervention in a respiratory muscle training program. RESULTS A change of at least 0.262 and 7.5 for the EQ-5D-5L index and VAS represented the MCID, respectively. Only the EQ-5D-5L VAS showed acceptable discrimination between individuals who were classified as "improved" and those classified as "stable/not improved" (area under the curve = 0.78), although with a low Youden index (Youden index, 0.39; sensitivity, 46.2%; specificity, 93.1%). Those individuals who exceeded the established MCID for EQ-5D-5L VAS had significantly greater improvements in inspiratory muscle function, exercise tolerance, and peripheral muscle strength compared to participants classified as "stable/not improved". CONCLUSIONS Only the EQ-5D-5L VAS, especially when MCID was exceeded, showed an acceptable discriminative ability to evaluate the efficacy of an intervention in individuals with long-term post-COVID-19 symptoms.

Abstract
Measurement of real-world physical activity (PA) data using accelerometry in older adults is informative and clinically relevant, but not without challenges. This review appraises the reliability and validity of accelerometry-based PA measures of older adults collected in real-world conditions. Eight electronic databases were systematically searched, with 13 manuscripts included. Intraclass correlation coefficient (ICC) for inter-rater reliability were: walking duration (0.94 to 0.95), lying duration (0.98 to 0.99), sitting duration (0.78 to 0.99) and standing duration (0.98 to 0.99). ICCs for relative reliability ranged from 0.24 to 0.82 for step counts and 0.48 to 0.86 for active calories. Absolute reliability ranged from 5864 to 10,832 steps and for active calories from 289 to 597 kcal. ICCs for responsiveness for step count were 0.02 to 0.41, and for active calories 0.07 to 0.93. Criterion validity for step count ranged from 0.83 to 0.98. Percentage of agreement for walking ranged from 63.6% to 94.5%; for lying 35.6% to 100%, sitting 79.2% to 100%, and standing 38.6% to 96.1%. Construct validity between step count and criteria for moderate-to-vigorous PA was rs = 0.68 and 0.72. Inter-rater reliability and criterion validity for walking, lying, sitting and standing duration are established. Criterion validity of step count is also established. Clinicians and researchers may use these measures with a limited degree of confidence. Further work is required to establish these properties and to extend the repertoire of PA measures beyond "volume" counts to include more nuanced outcomes such as intensity of movement and duration of postural transitions.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Patient-reported outcome measures (PROMs) have transitioned from primarily being used as research instruments to becoming increasingly used in the clinical setting to assess recovery and inform shared decision-making. However, there is a need to develop validated short-form PROM instruments to decrease patient burden and ease incorporation into clinical practice. PURPOSE To assess the validity and responsiveness of a shortened version of the Western Ontario Shoulder Instability Index (Short-WOSI) when compared with the full WOSI and other shoulder-related PROM instruments. STUDY DESIGN Cohort study (diagnosis); Level of evidence, 2. METHODS This study was a secondary analysis of data collected as part of an institutional review board-approved, multicenter cohort of 1160 patients undergoing surgical stabilization for shoulder instability. The following PROMs were captured preoperatively and 2 years after surgery: WOSI, American Shoulder and Elbow Surgeons (ASES) score, the Single Assessment Numeric Evaluation (SANE), and 36-Item Health Survey (RAND-36). The cohort was split into 2 data sets: a training set to be used in the development of the Short-WOSI (n = 580) and a test set to be used to assess the validity and responsiveness of the Short-WOSI relative to the full WOSI, ASES, SANE, and RAND-36. RESULTS The Short-WOSI demonstrated excellent internal consistency before surgery (Cronbach α = .83) and excellent internal consistency at the 2-year follow-up (Cronbach α = .93). The baseline, 2-year, and pre- to postoperative changes in Short-WOSI and WOSI were closely correlated (r > 0.90), with both demonstrating large effect sizes (Short-WOSI = 1.92, WOSI = 1.81). Neither the Short-WOSI nor the WOSI correlated well with the other PROM instruments before (r = 0.21-0.33) or after (r = 0.25-0.38) surgery. The Short-WOSI, WOSI, and SANE scores were more responsive than ASES and RAND-36 scores. CONCLUSION The 7-item Short-WOSI demonstrated excellent internal consistency and a lack of floor or ceiling effects. The Short-WOSI demonstrated excellent cross-sectional and longitudinal construct validity and was similarly responsive over time as the full WOSI. Neither the Short-WOSI nor WOSI correlated with more general shoulder PROMs, underscoring the advantage of using instability-specific instruments for this population.

Abstract
AIM In this study we aimed to assess the responsiveness of the symptom score of the recently developed Patient-Reported Outcome Measure-Haemorrhoidal Impact and Satisfaction Score (PROM-HISS). Furthermore, the minimally relevant difference (MRD) was determined. METHOD The responsiveness of PROM-HISS was tested using a criterion-based (i.e. anchor) and construct-based (i.e. hypotheses testing) approach. Patients with haemorrhoidal disease (HD) completed the PROM-HISS before and 1 week after treatment in hospital. A global self-assessment of change question (SCQ) was administered 1-week after treatment and functioned as the criterion. The following analyses were performed: (1) correlation between the PROM-HISS symptom score and the criterion (SCQ) and (2) hypotheses testing. The MRD was determined as change in symptoms of the subgroup reporting 'somewhat fewer complaints' on the SCQ. RESULTS Between February and August 2022, 94 patients with grade II-IV HD from three hospitals were included. The correlation between the SCQ and a change on the PROM-HISS symptom score was 0.595 indicating that an improvement on the SCQ corresponds to an improvement on the PROM-HISS symptom score. As hypothesized, the mean change in PROM-HISS scores was significantly different between subgroups of patients based on their SCQ responses. Patients reporting a small change in HD symptoms on the SCQ corresponded to a mean change of 0.3 on the PROM-HISS symptom score. CONCLUSION The PROM-HISS symptom score is a responsive instrument as it identifies change in HD symptoms because of treatment. The estimated MRD of 0.3 can be used to inform clinical research and practice.

Abstract
Leber's hereditary optic neuropathy (LHON) is a disease that affects the optical nerve, causing visual loss. The diagnosis of LHON is mostly defined by the identification of three pathogenic variants in the mitochondrial DNA. Idebenone is widely used to treat LHON patients, but only some of them are responders to treatment. In our study, we assessed the maximal respiration rate (MRR) and other respiratory parameters in eight fibroblast lines from subjects carrying LHON pathogenic variants. We measured also the effects of idebenone treatment on cell growth and mtDNA amounts. Results showed that LHON fibroblasts had significantly reduced respiratory parameters in untreated conditions, but no significant gain in MRR after idebenone supplementation. No major toxicity toward mitochondrial function and no relevant compensatory effect in terms of mtDNA quantity were found for the treatment at the tested conditions. Our findings confirmed that fibroblasts from subjects harboring LHON pathogenic variants displayed impaired respiration, regardless of the disease penetrance and severity. Testing responsiveness to idebenone treatment in cultured cells did not fully recapitulate in vivo data. The in-depth evaluation of cellular respiration in fibroblasts is a good approach to evaluating novel mtDNA variants associated with LHON but needs further evaluation as a potential biomarker for disease prognosis and treatment responsiveness.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Patients with advanced cancer can be unable to verbalize their pain. The Abbey Pain Scale (APS), an observational tool, is used to assess pain in this setting, but has never been psychometrically tested for people with cancer. The aim of this study was to assess the validity, reliability, and the responsiveness of the APS to opioids for patients with advanced cancer in a palliative oncology care setting. MATERIAL AND METHODS Patients with advanced cancer and poor performance status, drowsiness, unconsciousness, or delirium, were assessed for pain using a Swedish translation of the APS (APS-SE) and, if possible, the Numeric Rating Scale (NRS). The assessments using APS were conducted simultaneously, but independently, by the same raters on two separate occasions, approximately one hour apart. Criterion validity was assessed by comparing the APS and NRS values using Cohen's kappa (κ). Inter-rater reliability was determined using the intraclass correlation coefficient (ICC), internal consistency using Cronbach's α, and responsiveness to opioids using the Wilcoxon signed-rank test. RESULTS Seventy-two patients were included, of whom n = 45 could rate their pain using the NRS. The APS did not detect any of the n = 22 cases of moderate or severe pain self-reported using the NRS. The APS at first assessment had a κ of 0.08 (CI: -0.06 to 0.22) for criterion validity, an ICC of 0.64 (CI: 0.43-0.78) for inter-rater reliability, and a Cronbach's α of 0.01 for internal consistency. The responsiveness to opioids was z = -2.53 (p = 0.01). CONCLUSION The APS was responsive to opioids but displayed insufficient validity and reliability and did not detect moderate or severe pain as indicated by the NRS. The study showed a very limited clinical use of the APS in patients with advanced cancer.

Abstract
Prolonged postprandial hyperlipidemia may cause the development of cardiovascular diseases. This study explored whether postprandial triglyceride-rich lipoprotein (TRL) clearance responsiveness to Platycodi radix beverage (PR) is associated with changes in blood microbiota profiles. We conducted an 8-week randomized controlled clinical trial involving normolipidemic adults with low fruit and vegetable intakes. Participants underwent an oral fat tolerance test and 16S amplicon sequencing analysis of blood microbiota. Using the Qualitative Interaction Trees, we identified responders as those with higher baseline dietary fat intake (>38.5 g/day) and lipoprotein lipase levels (>150.6 ng/mL), who showed significant reductions in AUC for triglyceride (TG) and chylomicron-TG after the oral fat tolerance test. The LEfSe analysis showed differentially abundant blood microbiota between responders and non-responders. A penalized logistic regression algorithm was employed to predict the responsiveness to intervention on the TRL clearance based on the background characteristics, including the blood microbiome. Our findings suggest that PR intake can modulate postprandial TRL clearance in adults consuming higher fat intake over 38.5 g/day and low fruit and vegetable intake through shared links to systemic microbial signatures.

Abstract
Introduction The Boston Carpal Tunnel Questionnaire (BCTQ) is a widely recommended patient-reported outcome measure to evaluate symptoms and functions in carpal tunnel syndrome (CTS) patients. We aimed to evaluate the translation and cross-cultural adaptation of the Thai version of the BCTQ (Thai BCTQ) and to investigate the psychometric properties including internal consistency, test-retest reliability, construct validity and responsiveness. Methods The Thai BCTQ was field tested with 15 healthy volunteers and 15 CTS patients to evaluate the item-objective congruence of each item. Following that, one hundred and twenty-four CTS patients were included for psychometric evaluation in this study. Internal consistency was assessed using Cronbach's alpha. Test-retest reliability was examined using the intraclass correlation coefficient (ICC). To evaluate construct validity, Spearman's rank correlation of the symptom severity scale (Thai BCTQ -S), the functional status scale (Thai BCTQ -F) and the subscales of the Thai MHQ were analyzed. Responsiveness was determined using the standardized response mean (SRM). Results Minor modification of the Thai version was made to better explain the term "tingling". The Thai BCTQ-S, Thai BCTQ-F and Thai BCTQ demonstrated adequate Cronbach's alpha values (0.91-0.94) and good test-retest reliability (ICC=0.89-0.98). Regarding related dimensions, a strong correlation (r=0.67, P<0.008) was found between the Thai BCTQ-F and the Function subscale of Thai MHQ as well as between Thai BCTQ-F and the Activities of Daily Living subscale of the Thai MHQ (r=0.75, P<0.008). In unrelated dimensions, there was a relatively weak correlation between the Thai BCTQ-S and the Aesthetics subscale of the Thai MHQ (r=0.32, P=0.0116). The SRM of the Thai BCTQ was 1.46, indicating large responsiveness. Discussion The Thai BCTQ has adequate internal consistency in both the symptom and function scales as well as good construct validity and test-retest reliability indicating it is suitable for evaluating Thai CTS patients. This tool also has a high ability to detect clinically significant changes in symptoms and function over time after receiving conservative or surgical treatment.

Abstract
Introduction To effectively monitor post-match changes in physical performance, valid, reliable and practical measures which are sensitive to change are required. This study aimed to quantify test-retest reliability and sensitivity to change of a range of physical performance measures recorded during an isometric posterior chain (IPC) lower-limb muscle test and a countermovement jump (CMJ) test. Methods Eighteen Italian Serie A academy soccer players performed three IPC repetitions per limb and five CMJ trials in 4 testing sessions. Test-retest reliability was evaluated between two testing sessions seven days apart using typical error of measurement, coefficient of variation and intraclass correlation coefficient. Sensitivity to change was assessed on two additional testing sessions performed before and immediately after a soccer match through Hedges' g effect size (g) and comparisons to typical error. Results Absolute reliability (coefficient of variations) ranged from 1.5 to 8.8%. IPC and CMJ measures demonstrated moderate to excellent relative reliability (intraclass correlation coefficients ranged from 0.70 to 0.98). A wide range of physical performance measures showed significant alterations post-match (p < 0.05; g: small to moderate). IPC peak force and torque, CMJ reactive strength index modified, CMJ eccentric forces (mean breaking force, mean deceleration force, peak force, force at zero velocity) and CMJ mean power measures had post-match changes greater than their typical variation, demonstrating acceptable sensitivity in detecting performance changes at post-match. Discussion IPC peak force and torque, CMJ reactive strength index modified, CMJ eccentric phase forces and CMJ mean power were found to be both reliable and sensitive to change, and thus may be appropriate for monitoring post-match neuromuscular performance in youth soccer population.

Abstract
Background Comprehensive analysis of transcriptomic profiles of non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) may provide novel evidence for biomarkers associated with response to PD-1/PD-L1 immune checkpoint blockade (ICB). Methods We utilized weighted gene co-expression network analysis (WGCNA) to analyze transcriptomic data from two NSCLC datasets from Gene Expression Omnibus (GSE135222 and GSE126044) that involved patients received ICB treatment. We evaluated the correlation of co-expression modules with ICB responsiveness and functionally annotated ICB-related modules using pathway enrichment analysis, single-cell RNA sequencing, flow cytometry and alternative splicing analysis. We built a risk score using Lasso-COX regression based on hub genes from ICB-related modules. We investigated the alteration of tumor microenvironment between high- and low- risk groups and the association of the risk score with previously established predictive biomarkers. Results Our results identified a black with positive correlation and a blue module with negative correlation to ICB responsiveness. The black module was enriched in pathway of T cell activation and antigen processing and presentation, and the genes assigned to it were consistently expressed on myeloid cells. We observed decreased alternative splicing events in samples with high signature scores of the blue module. The Lasso-COX analysis screened out three genes (EVI2B, DHX9, HNRNPM) and constructed a risk score from the hub genes of the two modules. We validated the predictive value of the risk score for poor response to ICB therapy in an in-house NSCLC cohort and a pan-cancer cohort from the KM-plotter database. The low-risk group had more immune-infiltrated microenvironment, with higher frequencies of precursor exhausted CD8+ T cells, tissue-resident CD8+ T cells, plasmacytoid dendritic cells and type 1 conventional dendritic cells, and a lower frequency of terminal exhausted CD8+ T cells, which may explain its superior response to ICB therapy. The significant correlation of the risk score to gene signature of tertiary lymphoid structure also implicated the possible mechanism of this predictive biomarker. Conclusions Our study identified two co-expression modules related to ICB responsiveness in NSCLC and developed a risk score accordingly, which could potentially serve as a predictive biomarker for ICB response.

Abstract
PURPOSE We performed a systematic review to assess the psychometric properties of extended Activities of Daily Living (eADL) scales. MATERIALS AND METHODS Articles assessing eADL scales' properties were retrieved by searching multidisciplinary databases, and reference screening. Data on the following properties were extracted: validity, reliability, responsiveness, and internal consistency. The COSMIN (Consensus-based Standards for the selection of health status Measurement Instruments) risk of bias checklists are used to assess the quality of included articles. All aspects were performed by two independent researchers. RESULTS Of 245 titles, 26 articles were eligible, comprising 15 different eADL scales. The Lawton scale had the most papers describing properties, while the Performance-based Instrumental Activities of Daily Living received the highest COSMIN rating. Properties most often assessed were convergent validity and reliability, no articles assessed all COSMIN properties. The COSMIN assessment rated 43% of the properties as 'positive', 31% 'doubtful' and 26% 'inadequate'. Only Lawton was assessed in more than one paper, available data suggest that this scale has excellent reliability, construct validity, internal consistency, and medium criterion validity. CONCLUSION Despite their common use, there are limited data on the properties of eADL scales. Where data are available there are potential methodological issues in the studies.Implications for RehabilitationThe functional abilities of older adults are most commonly measured using extended activities of daily living scales (eADL).There are many eADL scales available to clinicians and no guidance on a preferred tool.Despite the frequent use of eADL scales in research and practice, there is limited published literature on their psychometric properties (for example validity, reliability and responsiveness).The Lawton Scale has the most supporting evidence and its properties are generally acceptable, more research is needed on other eADL scales.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Sexual communication is a common target in psychological treatments for vulvodynia, and associations with sexual function and distress, as well as pain intensity, have been demonstrated. However, structured observations of the communication patterns of couples with vulvodynia are lacking, as these are needed to guide treatment efforts. AIM To explore (1) the sexual communication patterns in couples with vulvodynia in terms of observed communication quality (operationalized as validating and invalidating responses), self-reported sexual assertiveness, and self-disclosure and (2) associations between sexual communication quality and pain intensity. METHODS In a case-control design with within- and between-group comparisons, 62 couples engaged in videotaped discussions about their sexual relationship. Trained coders assessed the discussions by rating sexual communication (validation and invalidation) according to a structured behavioral coding scheme. Group differences in sexual communication quality were examined with parametric and nonparametric tests. Dyadic associations among observed communication quality, self-rated sexual assertiveness, and self-disclosure were examined within the actor-partner interdependence model. Multiple regression was used to test the predictive value of partners' validation/invalidation on the pain intensity of the women with vulvodynia. OUTCOMES Observed communication quality (ie, validation and invalidation), self-reported sexual assertiveness, self-disclosure, and pain intensity. RESULTS Partners of women with vulvodynia were more invalidating toward their partners than those of women without pain. There were no significant differences in validating/invalidating communication between women in the 2 groups or in validation between partners. Partners' validating communication were significantly associated with women's lower pain intensity. The sexual communication patterns differed between couples with and without vulvodynia, and the associations between validating/invalidating responses and sexual assertiveness were stronger in the vulvodynia group than in the group without pain. Results on validation/invalidation and self-disclosure were inconclusive. CLINICAL IMPLICATIONS The results indicate a need to direct treatment interventions toward couples' sexual communication quality (ie, levels of validation and invalidation). STRENGTHS AND LIMITATIONS Strengths include systematic behavioral coding and dyadic analyses. Limitations include the cross-sectional design and self-selection of participants. CONCLUSION This study demonstrated sexual communication patterns specific to couples with vulvodynia, and we conclude that validation and invalidation are important components of the sexual communication of couples with vulvodynia as they relate to sexual assertiveness, women's self-disclosure, and pain intensity.

Abstract
Climate change and agricultural intensification are exposing insect pollinators to temperature extremes and increasing pesticide usage. Yet, we lack good quantification of how temperature modulates the sublethal effects of pesticides on behaviours vital for fitness and pollination performance. Consequently, we are uncertain if warming decreases or increases the severity of different pesticide impacts, and whether separate behaviours vary in the direction of response. Quantifying these interactive effects is vital in forecasting pesticide risk across climate regions and informing pesticide application strategies and pollinator conservation. This multi-stressor study investigated the responses of six functional behaviours of bumblebees when exposed to either a neonicotinoid (imidacloprid) or a sulfoximine (sulfoxaflor) across a standardised low, mid, and high temperature. We found the neonicotinoid had a significant effect on five of the six behaviours, with a greater effect at the lower temperature(s) when measuring responsiveness, the likelihood of movement, walking rate, and food consumption rate. In contrast, the neonicotinoid had a greater impact on flight distance at the higher temperature. Our findings show that different organismal functions can exhibit divergent thermal responses, with some pesticide-affected behaviours showing greater impact as temperatures dropped, and others as temperatures rose. We must therefore account for environmental context when determining pesticide risk. Moreover, we found evidence of synergistic effects, with just a 3°C increase causing a sudden drop in flight performance, despite seeing no effect of pesticide at the two lower temperatures. Our findings highlight the importance of multi-stressor studies to quantify threats to insects, which will help to improve dynamic evaluations of population tipping points and spatiotemporal risks to biodiversity across different climate regions.

Abstract
INTRODUCTION The upper limb functional index (ULFI) is a widely used outcome measure for patients with upper limb musculoskeletal disorders (ULMSDs) that is available in several languages. Our purpose was to develop the Greek version of the ULFI and test its test-retest reliability, validity, and responsiveness in a cohort of patients with ULMSD. METHODS We used a merged methodology of published guidelines and recommendations for the translation and cross-cultural adaptation process. One hundred patients with ULMSDs completed the ULFI-Gr on three occasions: baseline, 2-7 days later to evaluate repeatability, and 6 weeks later to assess responsiveness. Participants completed the quick disability of the arm, shoulder, and hand questionnaire (Quick-DASH) and a numerical pain rating scale (NPRS) to evaluate convergent validity. Also, a global rating of change (GROC) scale was used to evaluate responsiveness. RESULTS Minor wording adaptations were required during the translation and cross-cultural adaption of the questionnaire. Factor analysis resulted in two main factors explaining 40.2% of the total variance. The ULFI-Gr was found to be reliable (intraclass correlation coefficient: 0.97, 95% confidence interval: 0.95-0.99) with a small measurement error (standard error of measurement: 3.34%, minimal detectable change: 7.79%). The ULFI-Gr showed a strong negative correlation with the Quick-DASH (-0.75), a moderate to strong negative correlation with the NPRS (-0.56), and a good level of responsiveness (standardized response mean: 1.31, effect size: 1.19). CONCLUSIONS The ULFI-Gr can be used as a reliable, valid, and responsive patient-reported outcome measure to evaluate the functional status of patients with ULMSDs.

Abstract
Hormone receptor-positive breast cancer (HR+ BC) cells depend on estrogen and its receptor, ER. Due to this dependence, endocrine therapy (ET) such as aromatase inhibitor (AI) treatment is now possible. However, ET resistance (ET-R) occurs frequently and is a priority in HR+ BC research. The effects of estrogen have typically been determined under a special culture condition, i.e., phenol red-free media supplemented with dextran-coated charcoal-stripped fetal bovine serum (CS-FBS). However, CS-FBS has some limitations, such as not being fully defined or ordinary. Therefore, we attempted to find new experimental conditions and related mechanisms to improve cellular estrogen responsiveness based on the standard culture medium supplemented with normal FBS and phenol red. The hypothesis of pleiotropic estrogen effects led to the discovery that T47D cells respond well to estrogen under low cell density and medium replacement. These conditions made ET less effective there. The fact that several BC cell culture supernatants reversed these findings implies that housekeeping autocrine factors regulate estrogen and ET responsiveness. Results reproduced in T47D subclone and MCF-7 cells highlight that these phenomena are general among HR+ BC cells. Our findings offer not only new insights into ET-R but also a new experimental model for future ET-R studies.

Abstract
BACKGROUND AND PURPOSE Chronic neck pain has a significant impact on the patient's quality of life. Specific outcome measures like Copenhagen Neck Functional Disability Index (CNFDI), Neck Bournemouth questionnaire (NBQ), and Spine Functional Index (SFI) are reliable and valid measures that have been used for comprehensively evaluating neck-related disabilities. However, responsiveness has not yet been investigated. The aim of this study was to examine the responsiveness and clinically meaningful changes of the CNFDI, NBQ, and SFI for Persian patients with chronic neck pain. METHODS Prospective recruitment of 145 patients with chronic neck pain was conducted. Participants completed the Persian versions of CNFDI, NBQ, and SFI at baseline and after 4 weeks of physical therapy. Also, the Global Rating of Change Scale (GRCS) was completed in the post-intervention assessment. The Receiver Operating Characteristics (ROC) curve and correlational analysis were used for evaluating the responsiveness. In addition, the Minimal Clinically Important Change (MCIC) was determined. RESULTS All selected outcome measures revealed an area under the curve of 0.96. The MCICs of 10, 7, and 10 points were found for the CNFDI, NBQ, and SFI, respectively. The results showed an excellent Gamma correlation coefficient of the CNFDI (γ = 0.98), NBQ (γ = 0.99), and SFI (γ = 0.99) with the GRCS. CONCLUSION The Persian versions of the CNFDI, NBQ, and SFI have acceptable responsiveness properties for evaluating the changes in health status in patients with chronic neck pain following physical therapy interventions.
