Bibliometric and visualized analysis of resveratrol in anticancer investigations

A growing number of publications have shown that resveratrol has anticancer effects and has become a hotspot in cancer research. The purpose of this study is to analyze the academic results and research trends in resveratrol within the field of anticancer and to predict the future trends in this field. We conducted a literature search for resveratrol in anticancer research from 2003 to 2022 using the Science Citation Index Expanded of the Web of Science Core Collection. The visualization software was used to perform the bibliometric analysis. A total of 1463 publications from 2003 to 2022 were retrieved. China had the highest number of publications. Taipei Medical University became the research institution with the largest number of publications worldwide. The journals with the highest output and co-citation frequency were Molecules and Cancer Research. Levenson, Anait S and Jaeger, Walter published the largest number of papers. Jang, MS was the most co-cited author. Timeline View shows trends and relationship between research topics over time and suggests that the emerging frontier of resveratrol in anticancer may be "resveratrol induces apoptosis." As more and more evidence shows the important role of resveratrol in anticancer, further research on its mechanisms and target discovery may become a major direction for future research. The bibliometric analysis findings of this study will significantly contribute to scholars' comprehensive understanding of the anticancer effects and mechanisms of action of resveratrol, aiding in delineating research hotspots and frontier directions within this field, thereby providing guidance for future investigations.

Developing a novel algorithm for comparing cluster patterns in networks on journal articles during and after COVID-19: Bibliometric analysis

BACKGROUND

Cluster analysis is vital in bibliometrics for deciphering large sets of academic data. However, no prior research has employed a cluster-pattern algorithm to assess the similarities and differences between 2 clusters in networks. The study goals are 2-fold: to create a cluster-pattern comparison algorithm tailored for bibliometric analysis and to apply this algorithm in presenting clusters of countries, institutes, departments, authors (CIDA), and keywords on journal articles during and after COVID-19.

METHODS

We analyzed 9499 and 5943 articles from the Journal of Medicine (Baltimore) during and after COVID-19 in 2020 to 2021 and 2022 to 2023, sourced from the Web of Science (WoS) Core Collection. Follower-leading clustering algorithm (FLCA) was compared to other 8 counterparts in cluster validation and effectiveness and a cluster-pattern-comparison algorithm (CPCA) was developed using the similarity coefficient, collaborative maps, and thematic maps to evaluate CIDA cluster patterns. The similarity coefficients were categorized as identical, similar, dissimilar, or different for values above 0.7, between 0.5 and 0.7, between 0.3 and 0.5, and below 0.3, respectively.

RESULTS

Both stages displayed similar trends in annual publications and average citations, although these trends are decreasing. The peak publication year was 2020. Similarity coefficients of cluster patterns in these 2 stages for CIDA entities and keywords were 0.73, 0.35, 0.80, 0.02, and 0.83, respectively, suggesting the existence of identical patterns (>0.70) in countries, departments, and keywords plus, but dissimilar (<0.5) and different patterns (<0.3) found in institutes and 1st and corresponding authors, during and after COVID-19.

CONCLUSIONS

This research effectively created and utilized CPCA to analyze cluster patterns in bibliometrics. It underscores notable identical patterns in country-/department-/keyword based clusters, but dissimilar and different in institute-/author- based clusters, between these 2 stages during and after COVID-19, offering a framework for future bibliographic studies to compare cluster patterns beyond just the CIDA entities, as demonstrated in this study.

Analysis of research topics and trends in investigator-initiated research/trials (IIRs/IITs): A topic modeling study

BACKGROUND

With the exponential growth of publications in the field of investigator-initiated research/trials (IIRs/IITs), it has become necessary to employ text mining and bibliometric analysis as tools for gaining deeper insights into this area of study. By using these methods, researchers can effectively identify and analyze research topics within the field.

METHODS

This study retrieved relevant publications from the Web of Science Core Collection and conducted bioinformatics analysis. The latent Dirichlet allocation model, which is based on machine learning, was utilized to identify subfield research topics.

RESULTS

A total of 4315 articles related to IIRs/IITs were obtained from the Web of Science Core Collection. After excluding duplicates and articles with missing abstracts, a final dataset of 3333 articles was included for bibliometric analysis. The number of publications showed a steady increase over time, particularly since 2000. The United States, Germany, the United Kingdom, the Netherlands, Canada, Denmark, Japan, Switzerland, and France emerged as the most productive countries in terms of IIRs/IITs. The citation analysis revealed intriguing trends, with certain highly cited articles showing a significant increase in citation frequency in recent years. A model with 45 topics was deemed the best fit for characterizing the extensively researched fields within IIRs/IITs. Our analysis revealed 10 top topics that have garnered significant attention, spanning domains such as community health, cancer treatment, brain development and disease mechanisms, nursing research, and stem cell therapy. These top topics offer researchers valuable directions for further investigation and innovation. Additionally, we identified 12 hot topics, which represent the most cutting-edge and highly regarded research areas within the field.

CONCLUSION

This study contributes to a comprehensive understanding of the current research landscape and provides valuable insights for researchers working in this domain.

Prediction of future research trends in bladder urothelial carcinoma: Bibliometric analysis

BACKGROUND

Bladder urothelial carcinoma (BLCA) is a prevalent malignant tumor of the urinary system and, ranks 13th worldwide. Its incidence and mortality rates are consistently increasing, posing a significant threat to the physical and mental well-being of patients.

METHODS

We conducted a literature search in the field of BLCA from 2010 to 2023 using the Web of Science Core Collection (WoSCC) database. CiteSpace 6.2.R4 and VOSviewer 1.6.19 were utilized to visually represent the annual publications, countries, institutions, authors, journals, keywords, and references in the literature.

RESULTS

A total of 10,378 articles were included in this study. Since 2010, the number of published articles has been increasing. The countries and institutions that contributed the most were the USA and Medical University Vienna. The most frequently cited author was Bellmunt J, with 2551 citations. Shariat Shahrokh F holds the record for most published articles with 445. The journal "Urologic Oncology-Seminars and Original Investigations" had the largest number of publications, while "Eur Urol" was the most frequently cited journal. "survival" and "radical cystectomy" were identified as the most frequent keywords in recent years. Burst detection analysis revealed that the keyword with the highest intensity value was "Transitional-Cell Carcinoma," and the reference with the highest intensity value was Babjuk M, 2013.

CONCLUSION

This study aimed to analyze and predict the research hotspots and trends in BLCA to provide reference value for further research in this field. The findings of this study can contribute to the research progress in BLCA.

Global research on RNA vaccines for COVID-19 from 2019 to 2023: a bibliometric analysis

Background

Since the global pandemic of COVID-19 has broken out, thousands of pieces of literature on COVID-19 RNA vaccines have been published in various journals. The overall measurement and analysis of RNA vaccines for COVID-19, with the help of sophisticated mathematical tools, could provide deep insights into global research performance and the collaborative architectural structure within the scientific community of COVID-19 mRNA vaccines. In this bibliometric analysis, we aim to determine the extent of the scientific output related to COVID-19 RNA vaccines between 2019 and 2023.

Methods

We applied the Bibliometrix R package for comprehensive science mapping analysis of extensive bibliographic metadata retrieved from the Web of Science Core Collection database. On January 11th, 2024, the Web of Science database was searched for COVID-19 RNA vaccine-related publications using predetermined search keywords with specific restrictions. Bradford's law was applied to evaluate the core journals in this field. The data was analyzed with various bibliometric indicators using the Bibliometrix R package.

Results

The final analysis included 2962 publications published between 2020 and 2023 while there is no related publication in 2019. The most productive year was 2022. The most relevant leading authors in terms of publications were Ugur Sahin and Pei-Yong, Shi, who had the highest total citations in this field. The core journals were Vaccines, Frontiers in Immunology, and Viruses-Basel. The most frequently used author's keywords were COVID-19, SARS-CoV-2, and vaccine. Recent COVID-19 RNA vaccine-related topics included mental health, COVID-19 vaccines in humans, people, and the pandemic. Harvard University was the top-ranked institution. The leading country in terms of publications, citations, corresponding author country, and international collaboration was the United States. The United States had the most robust collaboration with China.

Conclusion

The research hotspots include COVID-19 vaccines and the pandemic in people. We identified international collaboration and research expenditure strongly associated with COVID-19 vaccine research productivity. Researchers' collaboration among developed countries should be extended to low-income countries to expand COVID-19 vaccine-related research and understanding.

A 30-year bibliometric analysis of the literature in the disciplines of orthopedics, surgery, or oncology on chondrosarcoma from 1993 to 2023

BACKGROUND

A thorough bibliometric analysis of publications published in the field of chondrosarcoma research has not yet been performed using the Web of Science database, especially for publications published between 1993 and 2023. This study, with a focus on the fields of orthopedics, surgery, and oncology, aims to fill this knowledge gap by providing a thorough analysis of current knowledge in the field of chondrosarcoma.

METHODS

In this bibliometric study, a literature search was performed using the Web of Science database to find all publications on chondrosarcoma. A bibliometric software program was used for data visualization and analysis (opensource visualization application, Vosviewer). The Web of Science Core Collection data used for this retrospective bibliometric study, which covers the period from January 1993 to September 2023, revealed interesting trends in chondrosarcoma research.

RESULTS

As the most popular fields of study, orthopedics, surgery, and oncology account for a sizable portion of publications. A noteworthy increase in research output from 2014 to 2023, accounting for 41.74% of the papers, reflects the thriving research environment. The leading countries for publication were China, Japan, and the United States, demonstrating cross-border cooperation in chondrosarcoma research. Their contributions were highlighted by their important affiliations with institutions such as Harvard University, Leiden University, and China Medical University Taiwan. A thorough keyword mapping analysis also highlighted research priorities and encouraged interdisciplinary cooperation. The field's scholarly importance and ongoing relevance are highlighted by the study's high citation count (30,076) and highly cited articles.

CONCLUSION

Overall, this study offers crucial insights into the development and collaborative nature of the chondrosarcoma research landscape and its long-lasting influence on academic research and clinical practice.

A Bibliometric Analysis of Uveitis in the Past 20 Years

PURPOSE

To assess the quantity and quality of global research on uveitis, visualize the research hotspots, and reveal the study trends in uveitis.

METHODS

This bibliometric analysis was performed with the data obtained from the Web of Science core collection (WoSCC) database and Scopus. Bibliometrix and VOSviewer were used to analyze and visualize study trends and hotspots. Citespace was used to conduct the cooperation and co-citation network analysis.

RESULTS

A total of 5837 and 7195 documents were exported for further analysis in WoSCC and Scopus, respectively. The USA has published the most articles related to uveitis (1627, 27.87%, WoS; 1979, 27.51%, Scopus) and accounted for the most frequency of total citations (42345 times total citations 35 900 times without self-citations in WoSCC database). Most of the papers focusing on uveitis were published in Ocular Immunology and Inflammation (761, 13.04% within WoS; 793, 11.02% within Scopus). Additionally, novel biotherapy is the hotspot of uveitis research which also may be a sustained research interest in the future.

CONCLUSIONS

An increasing trend of publications was found in uveitis research. The USA was the leading contributor in this field, and it was the center of cooperation network. Our study provided an overview of uveitis research, which may serve as a valuable reference and guide for stakeholders interested in uveitis.

Evaluating the dependability of reference-driven citation forecasts amid the COVID-19 pandemic: A bibliometric analysis across diverse journals

BACKGROUND

The journal impact factor significantly influences research publishing and funding decisions. With the surge in research due to COVID-19, this study investigates whether references remain reliable citation predictors during this period.

METHODS

Four multidisciplinary journals (PLoS One, Medicine [Baltimore], J. Formos. Med. Assoc., and Eur. J. Med. Res.) were analyzed using the Web of Science database for 2020 to 2022 publications. The study employed descriptive, predictive, and diagnostic analytics, with tools such as 4-quadrant radar plots, univariate regressions, and country-based collaborative maps via the follower-leading cluster algorithm.

RESULTS

Six countries dominated the top 20 affiliations: China, Japan, South Korea, Taiwan, Germany, and Brazil. References remained strong citation indicators during the COVID-19 period, except for Eur. J. Med. Res. due to its smaller sample size (n = 492) than other counterparts (i.e., 41,181, 12,793, and 1464). Three journals showed higher network density coefficients, suggesting a potential foundation for reference-based citation predictions.

CONCLUSION

Despite variations among journals, references effectively predict article citations during the COVID-19 era, underlining the importance of network density. Future studies should delve deeper into the correlation between network density and citation prediction.

Impact Evaluations of Articles in Current Drug Delivery based on Web of Science

A total of 1534 and 308 articles were published in the journal Current Drug Delivery (CDD), from 2004 and 2019 to 2021, respectively. In this commentary, their impacts were analyzed based on search data about citation times in the Web of Science. These publications were categorized from different standpoints and evaluated in terms of their citations, particularly in the year 2021. The thematic, contemporary, and local features of these articles, as well as the article types and publication formats, were interpreted. Results demonstrated that CDD should be loyal to the contents about drug delivery, particularly nano-drug delivery systems and nano-pharmaceutical technologies. Publications from the developing and developed countries and regions showed no remarkable differences; therefore, submissions are similarly welcomed. Research articles and review articles are the main stream of CDD. The ratio of review papers is about 30%, which is reasonable but should not be further extended. Moreover, open publications with an article processing charge always have a high impact than those with subscription.

Bibliometric Analysis of Microtia-Related Publications From 2006 to 2020

OBJECTIVE

Microtia is a congenital auricular malformation with a hypoplastic external ear that ranges in severity from a slightly smaller auricle to complete the absence of the auricle. The present study was conducted to identify and analyze the characteristics of microtia-related articles published from 2006 to 2020 by using bibliometric analyses.

METHOD

Microtia-related studies published from 2006 to 2020 were retrieved from the Web of Science Core Collection database. Keywords, first author, citations, date of publication, and publication journal were extracted and quantitatively analyzed using Bibliographic Item Co-Occurrence Matrix Builder software and the Bibliometric (https://bibliometric.com/app). VOSviewer was used to visualize research and form a network map on keywords and citations.

RESULTS

A total of 1031 articles from 2006 to 2020 were included. The number of articles showed an overall trend of growth over time. The United States and China are the top 2 countries in terms of the number of microtia-related articles. From the analysis of keyword clustering, keywords could be mainly divided into 4 clusters in the field of microtia research: surgery, tissue engineering, epidemiology, and rehabilitation including hearing-related treatments, evaluation of effects, and quality of life after surgery. The top 10 most frequently cited papers from 2006 to 2020 were also extracted and analyzed.

CONCLUSION

A bibliometric research of microtia-related articles from 2006 to 2020 was conducted. This study may be helpful to understand the current research status of microtia and find the research trends in this field, thus proposing future directions for microtia research.

The research status and prospects of MUC1 in immunology

In immune processes, molecular - molecular interactions are complex. As MUC1 often appears to be an important molecule in inflammation and tumor immunity, it is necessary to summarize the leading countries, authors, journals, and the cooperation among these entities and, most importantly, to determine the main research directions related to MUC1 in this field and the associated research frontiers. A total of 3,397 related studies published from 2012-2021 were retrieved from the Web of Science core database. The search strategy is TS= (MUC1 OR Mucin-1) refined by WEB OF SCIENCE CATEGORY (IMMUNOLOGY) AND [excluding] PUBLICATION YEARS: (2022) AND DOCUMENT TYPES: (ARTICLE OR REVIEW) AND LANGUAGES: (ENGLISH) AND WEB OF SCIENCE INDEX: (Web of Science Core Collection. SCI), with a timespan of 2012 to 2021. Documented bibliometric visual analysis was performed by CiteSpace and VOSviewer. The number of studies has increased every year. There are 1,982 articles and 1,415 reviews from 89 countries and regions, 3,722 organizations, 1,042 journals, and 17,948 authors. The United States, China, and Germany are the major countries producing publications on this issue. The most published author is Finn OJ and the most influential author is June CH. The key words "chimeric antigen receptor" and "T-cell" highlight the current hot spots and future trends in this field. Research on MUC1 in the field of immunology is still evolving. Through the bibliometric analysis of the existing publications, the current research hotspots and future development trends in this field can be obtained.

Analysis of global research hotspots and trends in immune cells in intervertebral disc degeneration: A bibliometric study

Intervertebral disc degeneration is an important pathological basis for spinal degenerative diseases. The imbalance of the immune microenvironment and the involvement of immune cells has been shown to lead to nucleus pulposus cells death. This article presents a bibliometric analysis of studies on immune cells in IDD in order to clarify the current status and hotspots. We searched the WOSCC, Scopus and PubMed databases from 01/01/2001 to 08/03/2023. We analyzed and visualized the content using software such as Citespace, Vosviewer and the bibliometrix. This study found that the number of annual publications is increasing year on year. The journal study found that Spine had the highest number of articles and citations. The country/regions analysis showed that China had the highest number of publications, the USA had the highest number of citations and total link strength. The institutional analysis found that Shanghai Jiao Tong University and Huazhong University of Science Technology had the highest number of publications, Tokai University had the highest citations, and the University of Bern had the highest total link strength. Sakai D and Risbud MV had the highest number of publications. Sakai D had the highest total link strength, and Risbud MV had the highest number of citations. The results of the keyword analysis suggested that the current research hotspots and future directions continue to be the study of the mechanisms of immune cells in IDD, the therapeutic role of immune cells in IDD and the role of immune cells in tissue engineering for IDD.

A bibliometric analysis of global research trends of inflammation in cervical cancer: A review

Cervical cancer is a common malignant tumor and a leading cause of death in women worldwide. It plays a crucial role in tumorigenesis and progression of cervical cancer. A total of 1606 references on inflammation in cervical cancer were retrieved from the Web of Science Core Collection and visual analysis was performed using VOSviewer. Inflammation in cervical cancer has attracted the attention of researchers. Even though China is the country that publishes the most papers, with the most of the top-ranking institutions, there is no extensive collaboration and exchange of papers by Chinese scholars. PLOS One is a popular journal on inflammation in cervical cancer. Instead, authors from other countries perform better, for example, the Sjoerd H. Van Der Burg is the most widely cited author and "M2 macrophages induced by prostaglandin E2 and IL-6 from cervical carcinoma are switched to activated M1 macrophages by CD4 + Th1 cells" (Moniek Heusinkveld, Leiden University Medical Center) is the most cited article of inflammation in cervical cancer. Keywords associated with "apoptosis," "HPV," "NF-κB," and "oxidative stress have been used in many studies, and keywords associated with "apoptosis," "human papillomavirus (HPV)," "NF-κB," and "oxidative stress" are involved in many studies, and there may be more research ideas in the future. From the perspective of precision medicine, more substantive research articles can promote scientific value, strengthen communication and cooperation, produce more extensive research results, and greatly promote the clinical diagnosis and treatment of cervical cancer. All procedures performed in this study involving human participants were in accordance with the ethical standards of the institutional and/or national research committee and with the 1964 Helsinki Declaration and its later amendments or comparable ethical standards.

Knowledge Mapping of Global Status and Trends for Thromboangiitis Obliterans: A Bibliometrics and Visual Analysis

Objective

Thromboangiitis obliterans (TAO) is a segmental nonatherosclerotic inflammatory vascular disease characterized by recurrent progressive inflammatory reactions and thrombosis in the small and medium-sized arteries and veins of the extremities. However, there are few bibliometric studies on TAO. Therefore, this study was employed to generalize the research status, hotspots and development trends of TAO-related research.

Methods

The data from 1999 to 2022 were collected from the Web of Science core collection database, and analyzed through bibliometrics software. VOSviewer was utilized to carry out academic collaboration between different countries/regions, institutions, and authors, visualization map of co-cited authors, journals, reference, and co-occurring keywords. CiteSpace was used to analyze the dual-map of journals, keyword bursts, and timeline of keywords. Bar and pie charts in this study were statistically analyzed and graphed through Microsoft Excel 2021. Scimago Graphica was applied to map the academic collaboration between different countries/regions.

Results

A total of 553 literatures were involved in this study. Japan at the leading global position not only in the number of publications, but also total citations, average citations and H-index. Institution with the major contribution to TAO research is Mashhad University of Medical Sciences, and Nagoya University. Annals of Vascular Surgery, Angiology, Journal of Vascular Surgery are the main publication channel for articles related to TAO. Fazeli, B., Iwai, T., and Kihara, Y. are major contributors in this field. The studies on TAO keywords could be grouped into four clusters: Etiology, Mechanism, Cell therapy and Clinical therapy.

Conclusion

Although the number of TAO publications has fluctuated over the past 20 years, it has generally shown a steady upward trend. Etiology and treatment research on TAO and some keywords such as trail, therapy, outcome, management, stem cells, angioplasty, and activation will become a hot spot in the future.

Thematic maps with scatter and 4-quadrant plots in R to identity dominant entities on schizophrenia in psychiatry since 2017: Bibliometric analysis

BACKGROUND

Schizophrenia affects more than 21 million people worldwide. There have been a number of articles published in the literature regarding schizophrenia. It is unclear which authors contributed the most to the field of schizophrenia. This study examines which article entities (affiliated countries, institutes, journals, and authors) earn the most research achievements (RAs) and whether keywords in articles are associated with the number of article citations.

METHODS

As of August 25, 2022, 20,606 abstracts published on schizophrenia in psychiatry since 2017 were retrieved from the WoS core collection (WoSCC). RAs were measured using the category, JIF, authorship, and L-index (CJAL) score. The follower-leading cluster algorithm (FLCA) was used to examine clusters of keywords associated with core concepts of research. There were 7 types of visualizations used to report the study results, including Sankey diagrams, choropleth maps, scatter charts, radar plots, and cluster plots. A hypothesis was examined that the mean number of citations for keywords could predict the number of citations for 100 top-cited articles(T100SCHZ).

RESULTS

The results indicate that the US (18861), Kings College London (U.S. (2572), Psychiatry (14603), and Kolanu Nithin (Australia) (9.88) had the highest CJAL scores in countries, institutes, departments, and authors, respectively. The journal of Schizophrenia Res had higher citations (19,017), counts (1681), and mean citations (11.31) in journals. There was a significant correlation between article citations and weighted keywords (F = 1471.74; P < .001).

CONCLUSION

Seven visualizations were presented to report the study results, particularly with thematic maps using scatter and 4-quadrant plots produced in R programming language. We recommend that more future bibliographical studies utilize CAJL scores and thematic maps to report their findings, not restrict themselves solely to schizophrenia in psychiatry as done in this study.

Bibliometric analysis of Kampo medicine hotspots and trends for the decade: 2013-2022

BACKGROUND

Kampo medicine is a traditional medicine that originated in ancient China and has since developed as a uniquely Japanese medicine. Although Kampo medicine is one of Japan's most important therapeutic modalities and numerous papers have been published recently, information on current hotspots and trends in Kampo research is lacking. This bibliometric analysis of Kampo medicine surveyed the latest research hotspots and trends.

METHODS

Articles on Kampo medicine were retrieved from the Web of Science Core Collection. We used medical subject headings related to Kampo medicine and searched for publications from 2013 to 2022. The retrieved articles were analyzed for countries, authors, journals, references, and keywords related to Kampo medicine using CiteSpace, VOSviewer, and SCImago Graphica.

RESULTS

A total of 1170 articles were included. The number of Kampo medicine-related publications and citations has recently increased, mainly from Japan. Author Keiko Ogawa-Ochiai published the most papers (40 papers), while Yoshio Kase had the highest frequency at 663 citations. Among the co-cited authors, Toru Kono was the most cited and had the highest total link strength. The journal with the most submissions was Evidence-based Complementary and Alternative Medicine. A comprehensive keyword and literature analysis revealed the following research hotspots: "Yokukansan and behavioral and psychological symptoms of dementia," "Ninjinyoeito and geriatric care," "Daikenchuto and postoperative gastrointestinal cancer," and "Rikkunshito and functional dyspepsia." We also identified a new research frontier by identifying an association between hochuekkito and COVID-19.

CONCLUSIONS

Our findings reveal trends in Kampo medicine research, with specific hotspots and the authors and publications with the largest research impact. Collecting a large volume of literature data, analyzing the impact of studies, and identifying research hotspots, as in this study, will provide researchers with future directions for Kampo research.

A modern approach with follower-leading clustering algorithm for visualizing author collaborations and article themes in skin cancer research: A bibliometric analysis

BACKGROUND

Skin cancers (SCs) arise due to the proliferation of atypical cells that have the potential to infiltrate or metastasize to different areas of the body. There is a lack of understanding regarding the country-based collaborations among authors (CBCA) and article themes on SCs. A clustering algorithm capable of categorizing CBCA and article themes on skin cancer is required. This study aimed to apply a follower-leading clustering algorithm to classify CBCA and article themes and present articles that deserve reading in recent ten years.

METHODS

Between 2013 and 2022, a total of 6526 articles focusing on SC were extracted from the Web of Science core collection. The descriptive, diagnostic, predictive, and prescriptive analytics model was employed to visualize the study results. Various visualizations, including 4-quadrant radar plots, line charts, scatter plots, network charts, chord diagrams, and impact beam plots, were utilized. The category, journal, authorship, and L-index score were employed to assess individual research achievements. Diagnostic analytics were used to cluster the CBCA and identify common article themes. Keyword weights were utilized to predict article citations, and noteworthy articles were highlighted in prescriptive analytics based on the 100 most highly cited articles on SC (T100SC).

RESULTS

The primary entities contributing to SC research include the United States, the University of California, San Francisco in US, dermatology department, and the author Andreas Stang from Germany, who possess higher category, journal, authorship, and L-index scores. The Journal of the American Academy of Dermatology has published the highest number of articles (n = 336, accounting for 5.16% of the total). From the T100SC, 7 distinct themes were identified, with melanoma being the predominant theme (92% representation). A strong correlation was observed between the number of article citations and the keyword weights (F = 81.63; P < .0001). Two articles with the highest citation counts were recommended for reading.

CONCLUSION

By applying the descriptive, diagnostic, predictive, and prescriptive analytics model, 2 noteworthy articles were identified and highlighted on an impact beam plot. These articles are considered deserving of attention and could potentially inspire further research in the field of bibliometrics, focusing on relevant topics related to melanoma.

Research frontiers and hotspots in bacterial biofilm wound therapy: bibliometric and visual analysis for 2012-2022

Background

Bacterial biofilms, which can protect bacteria from host immune response and drug attack, are an important factor in the difficult healing of chronic wound infection, which has become a major problem in medical development. This paper aimed to analyze literature related to bacterial biofilm wound treatment published between 2012 and 2022 using bibliometric and visual analysis.

Methods

Publications related to bacterial biofilm wound treatment from 2012 to 2022 were selected from the Web of Science Core Collection. Microsoft Excel 2021, bibliometrics, CiteSpace6.1, and VOSviewer1.6.18 were used to extract and analyze data.

Results

A total of 940 articles were published between 2012 and 2022, with the United States being the leading country (with 302 papers, 32.13%) and the University of Copenhagen in Denmark being the leading institution (with 26 published articles) in the field. Steven L Percival, a British academic, published the most articles (14). In the field of bacterial biofilm wound treatment, keywords suggested that the research gradually transitioned from lower limb venous ulcer, negative pressure-assisted healing to chronic wound, in-vitro bacterial biological model research, and then to the development of more microscopic and more advanced technologies such as antibacterial activity and nanomaterials. "Nanoparticles", "inhibition/antibacterial", "delivery", "gold nanoparticles", "hydrogel", "wound healing", etc., may become new research hotspots in this field.

Conclusion

There is a lack of specific and effective treatment methods for diagnosing and treating bacterial biofilms in wounds. Through the development of multidisciplinary cooperation, early diagnosis and treatment of bacterial biofilms in wounds can be achieved. These data may provide a useful reference for scholars studying more effective bacterial biofilm wound treatment.

Trends in NLRP3 inflammasome research in ischemic stroke from 2011 to 2022: A bibliometric analysis

BACKGROUND

Ischemic stroke is a leading cause of permanent disability and death globally. The nucleotide-biding oligomaerization domain (NOD)-like receptor family pyrin domain-containing 3 (NLRP3) inflammasome is a multi-protein complex that plays a role in ischemic stroke. Recently, research on the role of NLRP3 in ischemic stroke has developed rapidly worldwide. However, there is no bibliometric analysis of NLRP3 in ischemic stroke to date.

AIM

Through bibliometric analysis, the aim of this study was to assess the current state of research on NLRP3 in the field of ischemic stroke research worldwide over the past 12 years and to identify important results, major research areas, and emerging trends.

METHODS

Publications related to NLRP3 in ischemic stroke from January 1, 2011 to December 31, 2022 were obtained from the Web of Science Core Collection (WoSCC). We used HistCite, VOSviewer, CiteSpace, and Bibliometrix for bibliometric analysis and visualization. The Total Global Citation Score (TGCS) was employed to assess the impact of publications.

RESULTS

We found that research of NLRP3 in ischemic stroke developed rapidly starting in 2011. 601 relevant studies have been published in 245 journals over the past 12 years. Journal of Neuroinflammation and International Immunopharmacology were the most productive journals and Journal of Neuroinflammation was the most cited journal. Additionally, Stroke and Journal of Cerebral Blood Flow & Metabolism were the most co-cited journal. The most productive country was China (records = 430) and the most productive university was the Zhejiang University (records = 24). Arumugam TV (TGCS = 949) was the most cited author in this field. NLRP3 inflammasome activation, nf-κb, oxidative stress, and inflammation were the knowledge bases for the research in this field.

CONCLUSION

This study is a scientometric study utilizing quantitative and qualitative methods to comprehensively review the publications on NLRP3 in ischemic stroke. This information provides a reference for scholars to further study NLRP3 in ischemic stroke.

A Bibliometric Analysis for Low-Intensity Ultrasound Study Over the Past Three Decades

Low-intensity ultrasound (LI-US) is a non-invasive stimulation technique that has emerged in recent years and has been shown to have positive effects on neuromodulation, fracture healing, inflammation improvement, and metabolic regulation. This study reports the conclusions of a bibliometric analysis of LI-US. Input data for the period between 1995 and 2022, including 7209 related articles in the field of LI-US, were collected from the core library of the Web of Science (WOS) database. Using these data, a set of bibliometric indicators was obtained to gain knowledge on different aspects: global production, research areas, and sources analysis, contributions of countries and institutions, author analysis, citation analysis, and keyword analysis. This study combined the data analysis capabilities provided by the WOS database, making use of two bibliometric software tools: R software and VOS viewer to achieve analysis and data exploration visualization, and predicted the further development trends of LI-US. It turns out that the United States and China are co-leaders while Zhang ZG is the most significant author in LI-US. In the future, the hot spots of LI-US will continue to focus on parameter research, mechanism discussion, safety regulations, and neuromodulation applications.

Fertility concerns in cancer patients: a bibliometric analysis via CiteSpace: A review

Fertility concerns are a pervasive issue but very subtle in patients with cancer. Though various studies have focused on fertility concerns, limited research endeavor has been dedicated to bibliometric analysis. Given this, to visually analyze the hot frontier trends of research related to fertility concerns of patients with cancer using CiteSpace and provide new insights for future research in this field using the bibliometric method. We used CiteSpace software to retrieve the literature related to fertility concerns of patients with cancer in the Web of Science core collection database from the year of establishment to 2022 and conducted visual analysis in terms of authors, countries and regions, research institutions, and keywords. The search resulted in 201 valid articles, and the annual publication volume of literature related to fertility concerns in patients with cancer was generally on the rise; the country with the most publications was the United States, which also had the highest influence; the main research institution was Sloan Kettleson Cancer Research Center; the core research scholar was Jessica R. Gorman; the research hotspots mainly centered on quality of survival, women, survivorship, preservation, breast cancer, adolescence, and infertility. The results of this bibliometric study provide the current status and trends in the fertility concerns of patients with cancer and may help researchers identify the hotspots and frontier trends in this field.

Research Trends of Patient-Reported Outcome Measures in Orthopedic Medical Practices: A Bibliometric and Visualized Study

Background and Objectives: Patient-reported outcome measures (PROMs), also known as self-report measures, are critical tools for evaluating health outcomes by gathering information directly from patients without external interpretation. There has been a growing trend in the number of publications focusing on PROMs in orthopedic-related research. This study aims to identify the most valuable publications, influential journals, leading researchers, and core countries in this field using bibliometric analysis, providing researchers with an understanding of the current state and future trends of PROMs in orthopedic research. Materials and Methods: All PROMs in orthopedic-related publications from 1991 to 2022 were obtained from the WoSCC database. R software (version 4.2.2), VOSviewer (version 1.6.17), and Microsoft Excel (version 2303) were used for the bibliometric and visual analysis. Results: A total of 2273 publication records were found from 1991 to 2022. The results indicated that the United States (US) has made significant contributions to orthopedic-related PROMs. The majority of active research institutions are located in the US. J ORTHOP RES has published the most articles. J BONE JOINT SURG AM has the highest total citations. Conclusions: Our study provides a valuable reference for further exploration of the application of PROMs in orthopedics. PROMs have emerged as an increasingly popular area of research within the field of orthopedics, both in clinical practice and academic research. We conducted a bibliometric analysis in terms of journals, authors, countries, and institutions in this field. Additionally, we analyzed the potentialities and advantages of using PROMs in orthopedic research. There is an increasing trend towards using network-based or short message service (SMS)-based electronic patient-reported outcome measures (ePROMs) in orthopedic medical practices. It is anticipated that the role of PROMs in psychological and mental health research and telemedicine will continue to grow in importance.

Role of sustainable development goals in advancing the circular economy: A state-of-the-art review on past, present and future directions

The purpose of this study is to review the relationship between the highly anticipated concept of circular economy (CE) and sustainable development goals (SDGs). These two sustainability principles have transformed organizations and countries in their quest to achieve sustainable development. Despite their importance to the business and corporate realm, the discussion of these two concepts has been developed in silos, arbitrarily connected. Through a bibliometric approach, this study reviewed 226 journal publications and 16,008 cited references from the Web of Science (WoS) to understand the past, present and future trends of the two concepts and their impact on the sustainability development. The bibliometric approach of citation, co-citation and co-word analysis uncovers the relevant and significant themes and research streams. Theoretical and practical implications were discussed within the broader business and governance perspective to develop a substantial triple bottom line in creating a sustainable future for civil society.

Bibliometric analysis and visualized study of research on autophagy in ischemic stroke

Aims: To summarize and clarify the current research status and indicate possible future directions in the field of autophagy in ischemic stroke, we performed a comprehensive and multidimensional bibliometric analysis of the literature in this field published from 2011 to 2022. Methods: We retrieved articles on the field of autophagy in ischemic stroke published between 2011 and 2022 from Web of Science Core Collection (WOSCC). VOSviewer (version 1.6.19) and CiteSpace (version 6.2.R2 Basic) were used to identify the leading topics as well as generate visual maps of Countries/regions, organizations, authors, journals, and keyword networks in the related field. Results: A total of 568 publications were contained in this research. The journal with the most publications were Front Pharmacol, Mol Neurobiol, and Neuroscience. China was the most productive country with respect to co-authorship, with the Capital Med Univ being the organization with the most. co-authorships. In terms of authorship analysis, eight of the top 10 most contributive authors were from China. The co-occurring author keywords can be divided into three main clusters, including "protective effect of autophagy in ischemic stroke," "autophagy-targeted therapy for ischemic stroke," and "mitochondrial function in cerebral ischemia-reperfusion injury". Conclusion: This bibliometric analysis helps us reveal the current research hotspots in the research field of autophagy in ischemic stroke and guide future research directions. Subsequent trends in this special field are likely to identify and develop novel autophagy-targeted therapy strategies to effectively prevent and treat ischemic stroke.

CiteSpace-based visual analysis of hypothermia studies in surgical patients

AIM

This study was conducted to understand the research hotspots, research trends and research frontiers for hypothermia in surgical patients and provide a reference for developing effective measures to reduce the incidence of hypothermia in these patients.

DESIGN

Using CiteSpace software, a visual analysis of 1288 included articles related to hypothermia in surgical patients was performed.

METHODS

CiteSpace software is a Java application that supports knowledge research, data visualization and analysis of literature databases. The following data were retrieved: title, abstract, year, keywords, author, academic institution, journal and citations. The included literature was analysed using CiteSpace visualization software, knowledge mapping, collaborative network analysis, cluster analysis and highlighting keywords for visualization.

RESULTS

A total of 1288 articles related to hypothermia in surgical patients were included, with the largest number of articles published in the United States (448), followed by in Germany (104) and China (102). The top three institutions, journals and authors were from the United States. The most common keywords were perioperative 'hypothermia', 'risk factors' and 'anesthesia'.

A bibliometric study of the top 100 most cited papers on aging and cancer

Cancer has been the major and increasing cause of premature death and years of life lost. Various studies suggested the correlation between the aging process and cancer genesis. To evaluate the performance of the articles and to identify and compare the top-cited articles on aging and cancer, a cross-sectional bibliometric analysis was performed. Top-cited articles that were indexed in the Core databases in Web of Science were utilized to identify articles published from inception to September 3, 2022. The top 100 most-cited articles on aging and cancer were evaluated for their specific characteristics. Both Microsoft Office Excel and Visual Basic for Applications were used to analyze the number of publications and scientific cooperations among authors over time. The query identified the top 100 most-cited articles from the 368,504 articles. The top cited articles accumulated 308,106 citations. The citations per article ranged from 39,141 to 1040. Thirty journals published these 100 articles, with the Ca-A Cancer Journal for Clinicians publishing the largest number. Most articles have focused on the trend analysis of incidence, survival outcomes, and prognosis of cancer from different origins. Co-authorship analysis revealed intense collaborative activity between United States authoritative academic institutions and scholars. The present study is the first to analyze most cited papers in "aging and cancer." The historical trends, current status, and future direction in the field of older patients with cancer are systematically summarized. The occurrence and development of cancer is correlated with aging.

Global research trends in unilateral ureteral obstruction-induced renal fibrosis: A bibliometric and visualized study

BACKGROUND

Renal fibrosis is considered the pathway from almost all chronic kidney diseases (CKD) to end-stage renal diseases. The unilateral ureteral obstruction (UUO) model is a well-established experimental animal model to simulate renal fibrosis associated with obstructive nephropathy in an accelerated manner. In this study, in order to understand the development trends of research on UUO-induced renal fibrosis between 2005 and 2022 and predict prospects, we conducted a comprehensive bibliometric and visualized study using Web of Science (WoS).

METHODS

The articles regarding UUO-induced renal fibrosis were culled from the "Core Collection" of the WoS database. VOSviewer software and the R-Bibliometrix Package were used in visual analysis of countries/regions, journals, authors, keywords, institutions, and highly cited articles in this field.

RESULTS

The number of articles regarding UUO-induced renal fibrosis has obviously increased annually. China had the largest number of publications in this field. The most frequently used keywords were "inflammation," "transforming growth factor-beta1," "oxigative stress," "smad3," "beta-catenin," and "autophagy." Am J Physiol-Renal was the leading journal. The most highly influential documents were published by Higgins DF and his colleagues, with 46 local citations and 749 global citations. The leading institution was Nanjing Medical University. Furthermore, Zhang Y. was the author who contributed most to this field.

CONCLUSION

Our results suggest that the molecular mechanism of UUO-induced renal fibrosis remains a research hot topic, especially on the inflammatory response and oxidative stress, and international cooperation is expected to expand and deepen in the future.

Analysis of publications on HPV genotype co-infection: a bibliometric study on existing research

PURPOSE

To identify the bibliometric information of Human papillomavirus (HPV) genotype co-infection in certain literature database over the past two decades.

METHODS

Web of Science was used as the main database to identify all eligible articles focusing on HPV genotype co-infection at the date of October 16, 2022. From this journal database, we identified 463 articles on HPV genotype co-infection, conducted statistical analysis according to the author, journal, publication year and month, country or region, keyword and impact factor.

RESULTS

The articles included in our analysis were published between 1994 and 2022. The index of citations per year ranged from 170.4 to 13.1. These articles were from 78 countries or regions, with most publications from the United States (n = 73), followed by China (n = 65) and Italy (n = 50). The journal that contributed the most publications on HPV heterotypic gene co-infection was PLOS ONE with a total of 29 articles, followed by JOURNAL OF MEDICAL VIROLOGY (n = 28), INFECTIOUS AGENTS AND CANCER (n = 14) and JOURNAL OF CLINICAL VIROLOGY (n = 12). Among existing research in the field of HPV co-infection, we found that epidemiological distribution and infection mechanism has been the two major topics for scholars, and studies on detection methods for HPV multiple genotypes were also included.

CONCLUSION

Over decades, epidemiological studies and mechanism investigationhas been the central topics when it comes to HPV genotypes co-infection. Studies on HPV co-infection remained relatively insufficient, mainly stays in qualitative level while detailed infection data and high quality literature publications were still lack of valuable discussion.

Research on the Frontier and Prospect of Service Robots in the Tourism and Hospitality Industry Based on International Core Journals: A Review

This paper used the mixed research method of bibliometric and content analysis to study 284 studies on service robots in the tourism and hospitality industry collected from the Web of Science database. Results show that research in this field started late, and that the COVID-19 pandemic has promoted the rapid growth of the number of research papers. The International Journal of Contemporary Hospitality Management has so far published the most number of papers. Numerous scholars from universities in different regions of the world have made significant contributions to the research of service robots, and academic collaborations are relatively common, but there are only very few high-yield authors. Empirical research has been widely favored by researchers, wherein online questionnaire and experimental methods have been frequently used. Multidisciplinary theories have also been cited in related articles, especially on the applications of psychological theories. The research fronts cover four branches focusing on service robots, consumers, human employees, and service environment, with all four parts largely overlapping in content. Finally, the paper discusses prospects for the future research agenda of service robots in the tourism and hospitality industry.

Knowledge mapping of diabetic foot research based on Web of Science database: A bibliometric analysis

PURPOSE

To take a systematic bibliometric analysis and generate the knowledge mapping of diabetic foot research, basing on big data from Web of Science Core Collection (WoSCC) database.

METHODS

Two authors retrieved the WoSCC independently, to obtain publications in field of diabetic foot. CiteSpace was used to detect the co-occurrence relationships of authors, keywords, institutions, and countries/regions, co-citation relationships of authors, references, and journals, and distribution of WoS category.

RESULTS

A total of 10,822 documents were included, with 39,541 authors contributed to this field. "Armstrong DG," "Lavery LA," and "Lipsky BA" are the top 3 productive authors, and "Armstrong DG," "Boulton AJM," and "Lavery LA" were most commonly cited. The United States, England and China are the most productive countries, and Univ Washington, Univ Manchester and Harvard Univ published the largest quantity of articles. "Diabetes Care," "Diabetic Med," and "Diabetologia" are the most frequently cited journals, providing the greatest knowledge base. Clustering analysis of keywords co-occurrence map presented the following hotspots: #1 diabetic wound healing, #2 diabetic polyneuropathy, #3 plantar pressure, #4 diabetic foot infection, #5 endovascular treatment, and #6 hyperbaric oxygen therapy.

CONCLUSION

This study performed a global overview of diabetic foot research using bibliometric and visualization methods, which would provide helpful references for researchers focusing on this area to capture the future trend.

Bibliometric Analysis of Functional Magnetic Resonance Imaging Studies on Manual Therapy Analgesia from 2002-2022

Background

Research on the brain mechanisms underlying manual therapy (MT)-induced analgesia has been conducted worldwide. However, no bibliometric analysis has been performed on functional magnetic resonance imaging (fMRI) studies of MT analgesia. To provide a theoretical foundation for the practical application of MT analgesia, this study examined the current incarnation, hotspots, and frontiers of fMRI-based MT analgesia research over the previous 20 years.

Methods

All publications were obtained from the Science Citation Index-Expanded (SCI-E) of Web of Science Core Collection (WOSCC). We used CiteSpace 6.1.R3 to analyze publications, authors, cited authors, countries, institutions, cited journals, references, and keywords. We also evaluated keyword co-occurrences and timelines, and citation bursts. The search was conducted from 2002-2022 and was completed within one day on October 7, 2022.

Results

In total, 261 articles were retrieved. The total number of annual publications showed a fluctuating but overall increasing trend. Author B. Humphreys had the highest number of publications (eight articles) and J. E. Bialosky had the highest centrality (0.45). The United States of America (USA) was the country with the most publications (84 articles), accounting for 32.18% of all publications. Output institutions were mainly the University of Zurich, University of Switzerland, and the National University of Health Sciences of the USA. The Spine (118) and the Journal of Manipulative and Physiological Therapeutics (80) were most frequently cited. The four hot topics in fMRI studies on MT analgesia were "low back pain", "magnetic resonance imaging", "spinal manipulation", and "manual therapy." The frontier topics were "clinical impacts of pain disorders" and "cutting-edge technical capabilities offered by magnetic resonance imaging".

Conclusion

fMRI studies of MT analgesia have potential applications. fMRI studies of MT analgesia have linked several brain areas, with the default mode network (DMN) garnering the most attention. Future research should include international collaboration and RCTs on this topic.

From criminal interrogations to investigative interviews: a bibliometric study

This paper presents the results of a bibliometric study providing a comprehensive overview of the social science research conducted on criminal interrogations and investigative interviews since the 1900s. The objectives are to help researchers to further understand the research field, to better communicate research findings to practitioners, to help practitioners understand the breadth of scientific knowledge on criminal interrogations and investigative interviews, and to foster dialog between researchers and practitioners. To begin, after a brief description of Web of Science, we describe how we developed our database on criminal interrogations and investigative interviews. Then, we report the yearly evolution of articles, the journals where they were published, the research areas covered by this research field, as well as the authors, the institutions and the countries that published the most on a variety of topics related to criminal interrogations and investigative interviews. Finally, we present the most used keywords and the most cited articles, and examine the research on questionable tactics and techniques in the research field of criminal interrogations and investigative interviews. This paper ends with a critical look at the results, for the benefit of researchers and practitioners interested in criminal interrogations and investigative interviews.

A century of "Camel Research": a bibliometric analysis

Introduction

Bibliometrics is a quantitative analytic strategy used to assess the unit of publications per each field of research. Bibliometric studies are commonly employed to examine the current research climate, potential developments, and development trends in certain domains. In this work, the major contributors to camel research throughout the past century are discussed, along with the funding sources, academic institutions, scientific disciplines, and countries that contributed to "Camel Research".

Methods

The Web of Science (WOS) database was used to retrieve the publications based on the Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses (PRISMA) instructions.

Results

There are 7,593 articles dedicated to camel research on the Web of Science (as of August 1st, 2022). Three stages were involved in the publication of a study on camels. At the beginning, from 1877 to 1965, there were fewer than ten new publications per year. The second stage comprised 100 publications per year (1968-2005). Since 2010, nearly 200 new papers have been published each year. King Saud and King Faisal universities contributed > (0.08) of the total publications. While more than 1,000 funding agents were retrieved, the Natural Science Foundation of China (NSFC) showed the greatest rate of funded projects (0.17). Camel research was included in 238 scientific disciplines. The top disciplines were Veterinary Sciences (0.39), Agriculture Dairy Animal Science (0.144), and Food Science Technology (0.087).

Conclusion

There has been an increase in interest in camels in recent years, but the research trends in camel health and production need greater support.

Citation advantage of COVID-19-related publications

With the global spread of the COVID-19 pandemic, scientists from various disciplines responded quickly to this historical public health emergency. The sudden boom of COVID-19-related papers in a short period of time may bring unexpected influence to some commonly used bibliometric indicators. By a large-scale investigation using Science Citation Index Expanded and Social Sciences Citation Index, this brief communication confirms the citation advantage of COVID-19-related papers empirically through the lens of Essential Science Indicators’ highly cited paper. More than 8% of COVID-19-related papers published during 2020 and 2021 were selected as Essential Science Indicators highly cited papers, which was much higher than the set global benchmark value of 1%. The citation advantage of COVID-19-related papers for different Web of Science categories/countries/journal impact factor quartiles was also demonstrated. The distortions of COVID-19-related papers’ citation advantage to some bibliometric indicators such as journal impact factor were discussed at the end of this brief communication.

Top 100 Pemphigus Papers of the Highest Citation: A Bibliometric Analysis

Background

There have been several papers published about pemphigus. Bibliometric analysis is useful in determining the most significant research in a certain topic. By bibliometric research, we were able to determine the 100 most frequently reference articles in pemphigus.

Aims and Objective

Using bibliometric tools to find and evaluate the top 100 most reference papers in pemphigus.

Materials and Methods

On 19 February 2023, the Web of Science database was utilized to launch a title-specific search. Publications were listed in degrading order on the basis of their total citations. We examined the top 100 most reference pemphigus publications.

Results

The years of publication varied from 1971 to 2020, with the 1990s being the most active. According to diverse study objectives, the 100 publications were separated into clinical aspects and diagnosis (20%), pathophysiology (52%), therapy (13%), epidemiology (8%), related disorders (1%) and others (6%). The 100 papers were published in 37 different publications. The top 100 reference articles included 54 first authors of 11 nations, most of whom came from North America and Europe. Stanley, J R, from Uniformed Services University of the Health Sciences, was the principal author.

Conclusions

A thorough bibliometric research of the top 100 publications in pemphigus was provided by the research, which may be useful for future research.

Evaluation of the research trends on perfluorinated compounds using bibliometric analysis: knowledge gap and future perspectives

Detection of perfluorinated compounds (PFCs) in the environment has been a global concern because of the risk they pose due to their endocrine-disruptive properties. This study analyzed the global trends and research productivity of PFCs from 1990 to 2021. A total number of 3256 articles on PFCs were retrieved from the Web of Science focusing on different environmental and biological matrices. An increase in the productivity of research on PFCs was observed during the survey period which indicates that more research and publications on this class of contaminants are expected in the future. Evaluating the most productive countries and the number of citations per country on PFCs research shows that China and the United States of America were ranked in first and second places. It was also observed that research on PFCs received the most attention from scientists in developed countries, with little research emerging from Africa. Hence, research on PFCs in developing countries, especially low-income countries should be promoted. Consequently, more research programs should be implemented to investigate PFCs in countries and regions where research on these contaminants is low. The study will help researchers, government agencies and policymakers to tailor future research, allocation of funds to PFCs research and countries' collaboration.

A leading author of meta-analysis does not have a dominant contribution to research based on the CJAL score: Bibliometric analysis

BACKGROUND

There have been nearly 200 thousand meta-analysis articles indexed by web of science (WoS) since 2013. To date, a bibliometric analysis of leading authors of meta-analyses that contribute to the field has not been conducted. Analyzing trend patterns in article citations and comparing individual research achievements (IRAs) are required following the extraction of meta-analysis articles. Using trend analysis, this study aims to verify the hypotheses that; The leading author has a dominant research achievement and; Recent articles that deserve worth reading can be identified.

METHODS

In the WoS collection, we identified the top 20 authors with the most articles related to meta-analysis. Using coword analysis, 2882 articles were collected to cluster author collaborations and identify the top 3 authors with the highest weighted centrality degrees. Based on the CJAL (category, journal raking by impact factor, authorship, and L-index on article citation) score and absolute advantage coefficient (AAC), we compared the IRAs and identified the author who dominated the field significantly beyond the next 2 authors. In WoS collection, coword analysis was used to highlight the characteristics of research domains for the top authors contributing to meta-analyses. The selection of articles that deserve reading is based on a temporal heatmap.

RESULTS

The top 2 authors were Young-Ho Lee (South Korea), Patompong Ungprasert (U.S.), and Brendon Stubbs (US) with CJAL scores of 240.71, 230.99, and 240.71, respectively. Based on the weak dominance coefficient (AAC = 0.49 < 0.50), it is evident that the leading meta-analysis author does not possess a significant dominant position over the next 2 leading authors in IRAs. Coword analysis was used to illustrate the characteristics of the 3 authors research domains. The 3 articles worth reading were selected based on a trend analysis of the last 4 years using the temporal heatmap.

CONCLUSION

A coword analysis of meta-analysis studies identified 3 leading authors. There was no evidence that 1 author possessed a dominant position due to the lower AAC (=0.49 < 0.50) for the leading author. As we have demonstrated in this study, the CJAL score and the AAC can be applied to many bibliographical studies in the future.

Dermatology Publications in Saudi Arabia: A Fast-Growing Pattern

Bibliometric analysis provides an accurate report of the quantity and quality of research affiliated with a specific country. We aimed to use bibliometric analysis to evaluate previously published dermatology-related studies from Saudi Arabia (SA). We conducted a retrospective, cross-sectional bibliometric analysis using the Web of Science (WoS) and Scopus databases to retrieve all SA-affiliated dermatology research from the databases' respective dates of conception to July 9, 2021. The number of publications was determined by the total number of articles, the number of times an article was cited, publishing journals, and affiliated institutions. The Hirsch index (h-index) was used to describe the quality of the articles. In total, SA-affiliated dermatologists published 1,319 articles in WoS and Scopus. Approximately half (n=603) of these articles were published in the past six years. According to WoS, the total number of citations was 9,285 with more than half of all citations also occurring in the past six years. The International Journal of Dermatology was associated with the highest number of publications, followed by the Journal of the American Academy of Dermatology. SA had the second-highest number of publications in the Arab world. Our area has recently experienced rapid growth in dermatology publications. We encourage the use of data from the current study to identify the strengths and weaknesses of such publications, to direct researchers and funds to enhance the national growth of dermatology research, and to conduct periodic bibliometric analyses with the aim of assessing the quality and quantity of SA-affiliated publications over time.

Status and frontier analysis of indoor PM2.5-related health effects: a bibliometric analysis

Epidemiological data indicate atmospheric particulate matter, especially fine particulate matter (PM_2.5), has many negative effects on human health. Of note, people spend about 90% of their time indoors. More importantly, according to the World Health Organization (WHO) statistics, indoor air pollution causes nearly 1.6 million deaths each year, and it is considered as one of the major health risk factors. In order to obtain a deeper understanding of the harmful effects of indoor PM_2.5 on human health, we used bibliometric software to summarize articles in this field. In conclusion, since 2000, the annual publication volume has increased year by year. America topped the list for the number of articles, and Professor Petros Koutrakis and Harvard University were the author and institution with the most published in this research area, respectively. Over the past decade, scholars gradually paid attention to molecular mechanisms, therefore, the toxicity can be better explored. Particularly, apart from timely intervention and treatment for adverse consequences, it is necessary to effectively reduce indoor PM_2.5 through technologies. In addition, the trend and keywords analysis are favorable ways to find out future research hotspots. Hopefully, various countries and regions strengthen academic cooperation and integration of multi-disciplinary.

Classification and citation analysis of the 100 top-cited articles on nurse resilience using chord diagrams: A bibliometric analysis

BACKGROUND

Studies of most-cited articles have been frequently conducted on various topics and in various medical fields. To date, no study has examined the characteristics of articles associated with theme classifications and research achievements of article entities related to nursing resilience. This study aims to graphically depict the characteristics of the 100 top-cited articles addressing nurse resilience (T100NurseR), diagram the relationship between articles and author collaborations according to themes extracted from article keywords, and examine whether article keywords are correlated with article citations.

METHODS

T100NurseR publications were retrieved from the Web of Science (WoS) core collection on October 13, 2022. Themes associated with articles were explored using coword analysis in WoS keywords plus. The document category, journal ranking based on impact factor, authorship, and L-index and Y-index were used to analyze the dominant entities. To report the themes of T100NurseR and their research achievements in comparison to article entities and verify the hypothesis that keyword mean citation can be used to predict article citations, 5 visualizations were applied, including network diagrams, chord diagrams, dot plots, Kano diagrams, and radar plots.

RESULTS

Citations per article averaged 61.96 (range, 25-514). There were 5 themes identified in T100NurseR, including Parses theory, nurse resilience, conflict management, nursing identity, and emotional intelligence. For countries, institutes, departments, and authors in comparison of category, journal impact factor, authorship, and L-index scores, Australia (129.80), the University of Western Sydney (23.12), Nursing (87.17), and Kim Foster (23.76) are the dominant entities. The weighted number of citations according to Keywords Plus in WoS is significantly correlated with article citations (Pearson R = 0.94; P = .001).

CONCLUSION

We present diagrams to guide evidence-based clinical decision-making in nurse resilience based on the characteristics of the T100NurseR articles. Article citations can be predicted using weighted keywords. Future bibliographical studies may apply the 5 visualizations to relevant studies, not being solely restricted to T100NurseR.

The model of descriptive, diagnostic, predictive, and prescriptive analytics on 100 top-cited articles of nasopharyngeal carcinoma from 2013 to 2022: Bibliometric analysis

BACKGROUND

Nasopharyngeal carcinomas (NPCs) are prevalent in southeast Asia. There is a need to systematically review the current trend and status of NPC research. However, most bibliometric analyses have tended to focus on descriptive and diagnostic analytics rather than predictive and prescriptive analyses. Thus, it is necessary to use the model of the 4 (called the descriptive, diagnostic, predictive, and prescriptive analytics [DDPP]) to derive insights from the data. This study aimed to apply the DDPP model to classify article themes and illustrate the characteristics of NPCs; compare NPC researcher achievements across countries, institutes, departments, and authors; determine whether the mean citations of keywords can be used to predict article citations; and highlight articles that are worthy of reading.

METHODS

The Web of Science Core Collection was searched for 100 top-cited articles and reviews related to NPCs published between 2013 and 2022. As part of Microsoft Office Excel 2019, Visual Basic for Applications was used to illustrate the number of publications and scientific productivity of authors over time and to generate network/temporal heatmaps, chord/Sankey diagrams, radar/impact beam plots, and scatter/pyramid charts about collaborations among countries. The DDPP model identifies institutions, authors, and hotspots of NPC research. The category, journal, authorship, and L-index (CJAL) score was applied to evaluate individual research achievements.

RESULTS

A total of 10,564 publications were extracted from Web of Science Core Collection and screened for 100 top-cited articles and reviews related to NPCs. Despite having the highest number of publications (36%), China lags slightly behind the US in CJAL scores. CJAL was higher at Sun Yat-Sen University, Radiat Oncol department, and author Jun Ma from China. The number of article citations was significantly correlated with the number of weighted keywords (F = 1791.17; P < .0001). Six articles with significantly increasing citations over the last 4 years were recommended.

CONCLUSION

This bibliometric study utilizes the DDPP model to analyze the scientific progress of NPC over the past decade. The whole genome is a hot topic that may prove to be a promising research area in the future. A temporal heatmap may serve as a tool for providing readers with articles that are worth reading, which could lead to additional research in bibliometrics.

Using temporal heatmaps to identify worthwhile articles on immune checkpoint blockade for melanoma (ICBM) in Mainland China, Hong Kong, and Taiwan since 2000: A bibliometric analysis

BACKGROUND

Melanoma is a life-threatening form of skin cancer. Due to its remarkable effectiveness, the immune checkpoint blockade is widely used to treat melanoma (ICBM). No research has been conducted on ICBM for identifying the most readable articles. A bibliometric analysis of 100 top-cited ICBM (T100ICBM) in recent decades is required to highlight articles worth reading.

METHODS

Based on the Web of Science Core Collection, we summarized the articles on ICBM published in each year from 2000 to 2022, with first authors from Mainland China, Hong Kong, and Taiwan (CHT). Using the CJAL score, data extraction and visualization of the distribution of ICBM publications were conducted on 2718, and 100 top-cited articles, respectively. We used the temporal heatmap to identify the most readable articles. Four descriptive, diagnostic, predictive, and prescriptive analytics (called DDPP model) were applied to describe the features of T100ICBM articles. The absolute advantage coefficient was used to determine the dominance extent of the most influential region, institute, department, and author.

RESULTS

A total of 2718 publications was included after removing first or corresponding authors who were not affiliated with CHT. Publications by year showed a sharp increase from 2014 onward and either peaked in 2022 or have not yet peaked. It was evident that there was a large difference between the number of publications in provinces/metropolitan cities/regions on CHT. Beijing, Sichuan University, Oncology, and Guo Jun from Beijing are the most prolific and influential region, institute, department, and author. When comparing research achievements to the next productive authors based on the CJAL score, only Dr Jun has a medium effect of dominance (=0.60). On the basis of their consecutive growth in citations over the past 4 years, 20 T100ICBM articles were recommended for readers.

CONCLUSION

The field of ICBM is growing rapidly, and Beijing and Sichuan University are taking the lead in CHT. Furthermore, the study provides references for worth-reading articles using the temporal heatmap. Future research hot spots may focus on these 4 themes of immunotherapy, melanoma, metastatic melanoma, regulatory T cells, cells, and activation, which may pave the way for additional study.

Global research trends of hypertrophic cardiomyopathy from 2000 to 2022: Insights from bibliometric analysis

Objectives

To analyze the global research trends of hypertrophic cardiomyopathy (HCM) from 2000 to 2022 and explore new frontiers in this field.

Methods

We reviewed the literature in the Web of Science Core Collection database from January 2000 to August 2022 using the retrieval strategy of medical subject headings combined with text words. We focused on articles and reviews that were published in English. Relevant data of the target publications, such as title, authors, organizations, abstract, keywords, published date, journal, and number of citations, were collected. The R software with the "bibliometrix" and VOSviewer software was used to process and visualize the information.

Results

Among a total of 20,581 records related to HCM, 13,427 from 103 countries and regions, 8,676 affiliations, and 46,645 researchers were included. Most of the publications in this field were from the United States, followed by Japan, the United Kingdom, and China. We also report the top 10 institutions and most influential researchers, cited articles, and highest-frequency keywords (echocardiography, heart failure, sudden cardiac death, genetics, atrial fibrillation, magnetic resonance imaging/cardiac magnetic resonance, prognosis, mutation, arrhythmia, late gadolinium enhancement). In addition, keywords trend analysis indicated that the novel medicine Mavacamten, genetic diagnosis, and cardiac magnetic resonance have attracted the most attention for the treatment and diagnosis of HCM over the past five years.

Conclusion

The present study reports on the global research trends of HCM over the past two decades using bibliometric analysis. It may enlighten new frontiers in the diagnosis, treatment, and risk prevention of HCM.

Global Research Activities on Micro(nano)plastic Toxicity to Earthworms

Micro(nano)plastics are emerging contaminants that have been shown to cause various ecotoxicological effects on soil biota. Earthworms, as engineers of the ecosystem, play a fundamental role in soil ecosystem processes and have been used as model species in ecotoxicological studies. Research that evaluates micro(nano)plastic toxicity to earthworms has increased greatly over the last decade; however, only few studies have been conducted to highlight the current knowledge and evolving trends of this topic. This study aims to visualize the research status and knowledge structure of the relevant literature. Bibliometrics and visualization analyses were conducted using co-citations, cooperation networks and cluster analysis. The results showed that micro(nano)plastic toxicity to earthworms is an emerging and increasingly popular topic, with 78 articles published from 2013 to 2022, the majority of which were published in the last two years. The most prolific publications and journals involved in this topic were also identified. In addition, the diversity of cooperative relationships among different countries and institutions confirmed the evolution of this research field, in which China contributed substantially. The high-frequency keywords were then determined using co-occurrence analysis, and were identified as exposure, bioaccumulation, soil, pollution, toxicity, oxidative stress, heavy metal, microplastic, Eisenia foetida and community. Moreover, a total of eight clusters were obtained based on topic knowledge clustering, and these included the following themes: plastic pollution, ingestion, combined effects and the biological endpoints of earthworms and toxic mechanisms. This study provides an overview and knowledge structure of micro(nano)plastic toxicity to earthworms so that future researchers can identify their research topics and potential collaborators.

Peri-implantitis: A bibliometric network analysis of top 100 most-cited research articles

BACKGROUND

Over the past decades, there has been an increase in research publications focusing on peri-implantitis. When facing limited healthcare resources, bibliometric analyses can guide researchers and funding parties toward areas where reallocation or more focus on research activity is warranted. The main objective of this study was to identify the trends of the top 100 cited articles on peri-implantitis research as the first study of its kind.

METHODS

A Web of Science search, using the keywords "peri-implantitis or periimplantitis" was built to create a database of the most-cited articles. Articles were ranked by citation count and screened by two independent reviewers. The bibliometric characteristics of the studies were gathered and analyzed using several bibliometric software. Author collaborations, author clusters, and keyword co-occurrence network analyses were also performed. The correlation between the citation count and the age of each article was tested.

RESULTS

The top 100 cited papers were published from 1994 to 2018 and the total citation counts ranged from 119 to 972 with 244.5 citations/paper on average. There was no correlation between the age of the articles and the citation count (p-value = 0.67). 21% of the studies consisted of prospective clinical studies. 35% of the papers focused on treatment and prevention of peri-implantitis while 65% concerned epidemiology. The top three most prolific countries were Sweden (n = 31), Germany (n = 15), and Switzerland (n = 13). We found 12 authors who had greater than five publications on the list. Also, the most published journal was Clinical Oral Implants Research.

CONCLUSION

This study provides insight into the characteristics and quality of the most highly cited peri-implantitis literature. This revealed a deficiency in terms of the number of studies on treatment strategies as well as a higher level of evidence studies among the most- impactful papers on peri-implantitis at the moment.

Research hotspots and trends of oculomotor nerve palsy from 2001 to 2021 based on web of science: A bibliometric analysis

Background

Oculomotor nerve palsy (ONP) is a clinically occurring neurological disorder. Due to the complex anatomy and long travel distances of the oculomotor nerve, the causes of ONP vary and manifest in various ways. With continued interest in this area, it has become necessary to conduct a bibliometric study in ONP. This work aims to synthesize and visually identify current research themes and future trends in ONP through a literature-based analysis.

Method

Articles and reviews on ONP published from 2002 to 2021 were derived from the Web of Science Core Collection (WoSCC) database. We generated visual images and performed quantitative and qualitative analysis through an online bibliometric tool, Citespace and VOSviewer software.

Results

A total of 1,205 published articles were included in this analysis. The annual number of this area's publications is showing an overall upward trend, with the number of citations increasing every year, reaching 2,698 by 2021. The United States (367) and Japan (116) dominated the list with the most numerous articles published. The University of California Los Angeles in the USA is the institution that published the highest number of articles (47). Engle EC (23) and the JOURNAL OF NEUROSURGERY (46) are the most influential authors and journals in this field. The co-occurrence network analysis divided the keywords into five main research themes, which mainly include clinical manifestations of ONP, aneurysms, cerebral neurological symptoms, diseases with ONP as a complication, and other neurological disorders.

Conclusion

This study is the first comprehensive and systematic bibliometric analysis of the current state of global ONP research over the past 20 years. We organized current hotspots and expected trends and provided key information for exploring potential research frontiers in ONP.

Emerging trends of BCG immunotherapy for bladder cancer in last decade: a bibliometric and visualization analysis

Background

One of the milestones in bacterial-mediated therapy for cancer, Bacillus Calmette-Guerin (BCG) has been used to treat bladder cancer (BC) for more than 30 years. BCG immunotherapy is now the standard of care for high-grade non-muscle invasive bladder cancer (NMIBC) following transurethral resection.

Methods

We searched the Web of Science core collection (WoSCC) database and used bibliometric methods through CiteSpace (version 5.1.R6), VOSviewer (version 1.6.18) and R-Bibliometrix (version R 4.2.1) to analyze and discuss the current status and trends of BCG therapy of BC from 2012 to 2021 in terms of co-occurrence, co-polymerization and visualization.

Results

A total of 2476 publications were found, with the majority coming from the United States and China. Over the last decade, overall yearly outputs have increased fivefold, from 117 papers in 2012 to 534 records in 2021. Most publications were produced by the University of Texas System. The authors, Ashish M. Kamat of the University of Texas-MD Anderson Cancer Center in the United States, and Shahrokh F. Shariat of Weill Cornell Medical College, were pioneers in this field with the most publications. The journals, Urologic Oncology Seminars and Original Investigations, Cancers and Frontiers in Oncology, have published a dramatic increase in the number of articles, and tumor and urology nephrology research directions have received the most attention from journals. Furthermore, recent research has concentrated on muscle-invasive bladder cancer (MIBC). BCG therapy mechanism, BCG dose and strains, targeted therapy and immune checkpoint inhibitors (ICIs) for BC were attractive research contents, with ICIs (PD-1, PD-L1) being the most popular study point in recent years. With more research on tumor immunology, screening for more reliable biomarkers for precision treatment, and the development of combination regimens of ICIs, targeted treatment of BC stem cells, and personalized BC therapies may be promising areas of immunotherapy research in the coming years.

Conclusion

The results of this bibliometric study can provide the current status and research trends of BCG therapy for BC in the last decade, and also further complements the research content of bacterial-mediated cancer therapy.

Risk of Prostate Cancer in Chronic Kidney Disease Patient: A Meta-Analysis using Observational Studies

Background

Both clinical and experimental findings demonstrated a rise in prostate cancer in chronic renal illness. However, the clinical data associated with CKD was not looked at the context of prostate cancer. The study aims to investigate prostate cancer risk in CKD patients using clinical data via systemic review and meta-analysis.

Materials and Methods

Using pertinent pairing keywords, I carried out a thorough exploration of PubMed/MEDLINE and Web of Science. The pooled HR with 95% CI of the considered clinical findings was estimated involving the general inverse variance outcome type. With RevMan 5.3, the total pooled estimate meta-analysis was evaluated utilizing the random effects model.

Results

Total of six findings were considered for this analysis, with a total of 2,430,246 participants. The age and mean follow-up of the included patients and studies ranged from 55 to 67.4 years and 10.1 to 12 years, respectively. The meta-analysis showed no significant risk of prostate cancer among CKD patients (HR: 0.92; 95% CI: 0.60-1.41; P = 0.70). The results from subgroup analysis based on eGFR levels ranged ≥30-59 ml/min per 1.73 m2 and also found no significant risk of prostate cancer among CKD patients (HR: 1.04; 95% CI: 0.92-1.18; P = 0.52). Here I did not report statistical heterogeneity found (Q = 0.56, I2 = 0%, P = 0.87). As per the Newcastle-Ottawa scale, the included studies suggested good quality.

Conclusion

The results suggest no significant risk of developing prostate cancer among CKD patients. Therefore, well-designed prospective cohort studies with stages of CKD and clear predefined prior history and causative factors are needed to support the present evidence strongly.

Global research trends of acupuncture therapy on cancer pain: A bibliometric and visualized study

Background

The number of publications on acupuncture for cancer pain is increasing rapidly with an upward tendency. Considering that no bibliometric articles related to this topic have been published yet. It is necessary to evaluate the global scientific output of research in this field, and shed light on the direction of clinical cancer pain management in the future.

Methods

Research publications regarding acupuncture on cancer pain from inception to 2022 were downloaded from the Web of Science Core Collection. Bibliometric analyses were performed using CiteSpace software, the bibliometrix R package, and VOSviewer software. Network maps were generated to assess the collaborations between different countries, institutions, authors, and keywords. And clusters map was generated to evaluate reference.

Results

A total of 790 articles related to acupuncture therapy for cancer pain were identified. We observe that the number of publications is gradually increasing over time. China and the United States were the main contributors. Mem Sloan Kettering Canc Ctr (38 papers) and Beijing Univ Chinese Med (28 papers) contributed the most publications, becoming the leading contributors in this field. Although J Clin Oncol (28 articles) ranked ninth in terms of publication volume, it was the journal with the most citations and the highest number of IF (50.717) and H-index (494) at the same time. MAO J from Mem Sloan Kettering Canc Ctr was the most prolific author (23 articles). The main hot topics included matters related to acupuncture (239 times), pain (199 times), management (139 times), quality of life (107 times), electroacupuncture (100 times), and breast cancer (82 times).

Conclusion

Our bibliometric analysis provides a comprehensive overview of the development of acupuncture for cancer pain, enabling relevant authors and research teams to identify the current research status in this field. At the same time, acupuncture for breast cancer (BC) pain, aromatase inhibitor-induced arthralgia (AIA), and chemotherapy-induced peripheral neuropathy (CIPN) may soon become prospective focus.

Research hotspots and frotiers of stem cells in stroke: A bibliometric analysis from 2004 to 2022

Background: Stroke is one of the leading causes of mortality and permanent disability worldwide. However, the current stroke treatment has a limited effect. Therefore, a new treatment is urgently needed. Stem cell therapy is a cutting-edge treatment for stroke patients. This study aimed to gain better understanding of global stem cell trends in stroke via a bibliometric analysis. Methods: We used the Web of Science Core Collection to search pertinent articles about stem cells in stroke published between 2004 and 2022. Analysis was conducted using CiteSpace, VOSviewer, and the R package "bibliometrix" to identify publication outputs, countries/regions, institutions, authors/co-cited authors, journals/co-cited journals, co-cited references, and keywords. Results: A total of 6,703 publications were included in the bibliometric analysis. The total number of citations significantly and rapidly increased between 2004 and 2022, with the most pronounced growth pattern observed in the period of 2008-2009. In terms of authoritarian countries, the USA had the most publications among the countries. As for institutions and authors, the most prolific institution was the University of South Florida, followed by Oakland University and then Shanghai Jiao Tong University, and Chopp, M. and Borlongan, Cesario V, had the most output among the authors. Regarding the journals, Cell Transplantation had the highest publication, followed by Brain Research. As for references, "Mesenchymal stem cells as trophic mediators" was the most frequently cited (2,082), and the article entitled Neuronal replacement from endogenous precursors in the adult brain after stroke had the strongest burstiness (strength = 81.35). Emerging hot words in the past decade included "adhesion molecule," "mesenchymal stromal cell," "extracellular vesicle," "pluripotent stem cells," "signaling pathway," "plasticity," and "exosomes." Conclusion: Between 2004 and 2022, the terms "neurogenesis," "angiogenesis," "mesenchymal stem cells," "extracellular vesicle," "exosomes," "inflammation," and "oxidative stress" have emerged as the hot research areas for research on stem cells in stroke. Although stem cells exert a number of positive effects, the main mechanisms for mitigating the damage caused by stroke are still unknown. Clinical challenges may include complicating factors that can affect the efficacy of stem cell therapy, which are worth a deep exploration.
