Abstract
CONTEXT The therapeutic potential of andrographolide is hindered by its poor oral bioavailability and unpredictable pharmacokinetics, primarily due to its limited water solubility. OBJECTIVE This work aimed to enhance the solubility and pharmacokinetics of andrographolide, a bioactive compound in Andrographis paniculata (Burm. f.) Nees (Acanthaceae), using solubilizing agents and a bioenhancer. MATERIALS AND METHODS Four groups of beagles were compared: (1) A. paniculata powder alone (control), (2) A. paniculata powder with 50% weight/weight (w/w) β-cyclodextrin solubilizer, (3) A. paniculata powder with 1% w/w sodium dodecyl sulfate (SDS) solubilizer, and (4) A. paniculata powder co-administered with 1% w/w SDS solubilizer and 10% piperine bioenhancer. All groups received a consistent oral dose of 3 mg/kg of andrographolide, administered both as a single dose and multiple doses over seven consecutive days. RESULTS Thirteen chemical compounds were identified in A. paniculata powder, including 7 diterpenoids, 5 flavonoids, and 1 phenolic compound. A. paniculata co-administration with either 50% w/w β-cyclodextrin or 1% w/w SDS, alone or in combination with 10% w/w piperine, significantly increased systemic andrographolide exposure by enhancing bioavailability (131.01% to 196.05%) following single and multiple oral co-administration. Glucuronidation is one possible biotransformation pathway for andrographolide, as evidenced by the excretion of glucuronide conjugates in urine and feces. CONCLUSION The combination of solubilizing agents and a bioenhancer improved the oral bioavailability and pharmacokinetics of andrographolide, indicating potential implications for A. paniculata formulations and clinical therapeutic benefits. Further investigation in clinical studies is warranted.

Abstract
Our research aimed to cost-effectively enhance apigenin content in Chrysanthemum indicum L. extract using soybeans combined with a deep eutectic solvent. First, various deep eutectic solvents were investigated for the extraction of apigenin, followed by soybean treatment to increase aglycon levels. Combining single factor experiments with response surface methodology and optimization algorithms (genetic algorithm and particle swarm optimization), the optimal conditions were also determined. The results revealed that choline chloride-propylene glycol emerged as the optimal solvent. The optimized treatment conditions involved a temperature of 54 °C, a time of 2 h, and the addition of 3 mL of soybean extract, yielding an apigenin content of 3.380 ± 0.031 mg/g - a remarkable eightfold increase compared to the initial extract. The computational study suggested that the deep eutectic solvent may play an important role in stabilizing β-glucosidase in soybeans. However, further research is needed to scale up and fully elucidate soybean's mechanism.

Abstract
The present study focused on investigating the stability and in vitro simulation characteristics of oil-in-water (O/W) and oleogel-in-water (Og/W) emulsions. Compared with O/W emulsion, the Og/W emulsion exhibited superior stability, with a more evenly spread droplet distribution, and the Og/W emulsion containing 3 % hemp seed protein (HSP) showed better stability against environmental factors, including heat treatment, ionic strength, and changes in pH. Additionally, the stability of Δ9-tetrahydrocannabinol (Δ9-THC) and cannabinol (CBN) and the in vitro digestion of hemp seed oil (HSO) were evaluated. The half-life of CBN in the Og/W emulsion was found to be 131.82 days, with a degradation rate of 0.00527. The in vitro simulation results indicated that the Og/W emulsion effectively delayed the intestinal digestion of HSO, and the bioaccessibility of Δ9-THC and CBN reached 56.0 % and 58.0 %, respectively. The study findings demonstrated that the Og/W emulsion constructed with oleogel and HSP, exhibited excellent stability.

Abstract
In this work, the MeJA-loaded gelatin/pullulan/chitosan composite biofilm was prepared to inhibit the chilling lignification of the loquat fruit during storage at 0 °C. The firmness and lignin content were decreased by 89 % and 81.77 % after MeJA-loaded biofilm treatment. Malondialdehyde (MDA) production was almost completely suppressed and chilling injury of loquat fruit was significantly reduced. Enzyme activity results show that the biofilm alleviated chilling lignification mainly by inhibiting peroxidase (POD) activity in the phenylpropanoid pathway (PCCs = 0.715, with lignin content). Also, the conventional MeJA vapor treatment only alleviated lignification on day 3, but the biofilm treatment had a better and more sustained effect throughout the whole storage due to its sustained release ability. Besides, the biofilm had good mechanical properties, transparency and water vapor transmission rate. This work indicates that loading preservatives into biofilms has a promising application prospect for inhibiting the postharvest quality deterioration of fruit and vegetables.

Abstract
ETHNOPHARMACOLOGICAL RELEVANCE Gynostemma pentaphyllum (Thunb.) Makino has traditional applications in Chinese medicine to treat lipid abnormalities. Gypenosides (GPs), the main bioactive components of Gynostemma pentaphyllum, have been reported to exert hypolipidemic effects through multiple mechanisms. The lipid-lowering effects of GPs may be attributed to the aglycone portion resulting from hydrolysis of GPs by the gut microbiota. However, to date, there have been no reports on whether gypenoside aglycones (Agl), the primary bioactive constituents, can ameliorate hyperlipidemia by modulating the gut microbiota. AIM OF THE STUDY This study explored the potential therapeutic effects of gypenoside aglycone (Agl) in a rat model of high-fat diet (HFD)-induced hyperlipidemia. METHODS A hyperlipidemic rat model was established by feeding rats with a high-fat diet. Agl was administered orally, and serum lipid levels were analyzed. Molecular techniques, including RT-polymerase chain reaction (PCR) and fecal microbiota sequencing, were used to investigate the effects of Agl on lipid metabolism and gut microbiota composition. RESULTS Agl administration significantly reduced serum levels of total cholesterol (TC), triglycerides (TG), and low-density lipoprotein cholesterol (LDL-C) and mitigated hepatic damage induced by HFD. Molecular investigations have revealed the modulation of key lipid metabolism genes and proteins by Agl. Notably, Agl treatment enriched the gut microbiota with beneficial genera, including Lactobacillus, Akkermansia, and Blautia and promoted specific shifts in Lactobacillus murinus, Firmicutes bacterium CAG:424, and Allobaculum stercoricanis. CONCLUSION This comprehensive study established Agl as a promising candidate for the treatment of hyperlipidemia. It also exhibits remarkable hypolipidemic and hepatoprotective properties. The modulation of lipid metabolism-related genes, along with the restoration of gut microbiota balance, provides mechanistic insights. Thus, Agl has great potential for clinical applications in hyperlipidemia management.

Abstract
Grubs, called Qicao in China, have a long tradition as herbal medicine in East Asia. These larvae belong to the diverse family Scarabaeidae and are typically harvested from the wild during their immature stage based on morphological characteristics. However, rapid and accurate identification becomes challenging when relying solely on external morphological features, as the lack of clarity on biological sources raises safety concerns for clinical applications. The application of DNA metabarcoding provides a solution by enabling the determination of the biological source of a large sample. In the current study, we collected 19 batches of Grubs, consisting of 11,539 individuals, from the market and analyzed their biological composition through metabarcoding. We identified 49 Amplicon Sequence Variants (ASVs), 21 of which were Grubs. The 21 ASVs were classified into seven Molecular Operational Taxonomic Units (MOTUs) through species delimitation, which revealed that commercially available Grubs are predominantly sourced from Protaetia brevitarsis seulensis, while species of Rutelinae, Anomala, and Holotrichia were also abundant in some commercial batches. Among the identified ASVs, 28 belonged to non-Grub species and indicated adulteration from different animal families; high abundances of these ASVs were detected for Bombycidae, Tabanidae, and Viviparidae. Our findings underscore the complexity of Grubs' species composition and advocate for a deeper understanding of the wildlife sources contributing to herbal products. This research contributes valuable insights into the molecular identification of Grubs, paving the way for enhanced quality assurance in traditional medicine applications to provide safe and effective medicines for humanity.

Abstract
The health benefits of fermented fruits have attracted consumers' attention. High levels of antioxidant ability in the fermented kiwifruit extract were found at the early stage of fermentation. The co-fermention with Lactobacillus paracasei LG0260 and Kluyveromyces marxianus J2853 showed the highest ABTS radical scavenging ability (ABTS⋅+-SA) and superoxide dismutase (SOD) activity. Also, the typical antioxidant components of SOD activity, vitamin C concentration and total phenol content were highly correlated with ABTS⋅+-SA. Obviously, polyphenols in the fermented kiwifruit extract evolved into monophenols during fermentation. Compared to undigested samples, the activity of ABTS⋅+-SA and reducing power capacity (RP-CA) after the final intestinal digestion decreased and ranged 387.44-531.89 VCμg/mL, 650.95-981.63 VCμg/mL, respectively (P < 0.05). Meanwhile, SOD activity on the 10th day of fermentation were still remained 222.82 U/mL, 206.98 U/mL and 217.23 U/mL, respectively. These results suggested that the fermented kiwifruit extract could exhibit antioxidant activity through tolerance to the digestive environment.

Abstract
Terpenes play a vital role in plant defense; tomato plants produce a diverse range of terpenes within specialized glandular trichomes, influencing interactions with herbivores, predators, and pollinators. This study employed two distinct methods, namely leaf dip and maceration, to extract trichomes from tomato leaves. Terpene quantification was carried out using Gas Chromatography-Mass Spectrometry (GC-MS). The leaf dip method proved effective in selectively targeting trichome content, revealing unique extraction patterns compared to maceration. The GC-MS method demonstrated high linearity, accuracy, sensitivity, and low limits of detection and quantification. Application of the method to different tomato species (Solanum pennellii, Solanum pimpinellifolium, Solanum galapagense, Solanum habrochaites, and Solanum lycopersicum) identified significant variation in terpene content among these species, highlighting the potential of specific accessions for breeding programs. Notably, the terpene α-zingiberene, known for its repellency against whiteflies, was found in high quantities (211.90-9155.13 μg g-1) in Solanum habrochaites accession PI209978. These findings provide valuable insights into terpenoid diversity for plant defense mechanisms, guiding future research on developing pest-resistant tomato cultivars. Additionally, the study underscores the broader applications of terpenes in agriculture.

Abstract
Quercetin (QUE) is a powerful antioxidant and one of the common phenolic compounds found in plants, vegetables, and fruits, which has shown many pharmacological activities. The complex nature of the matrix in which QUE is found and its importance and potential uses in diverse applications force the researchers to develop selective and sensitive sensors. In the present work, a novel molecularly imprinted polymer (MIP)-based electrochemical sensor was fabricated for the selective and sensitive determination of the QUE in plant extracts and food supplements. Tryptophan methacrylate (TrpMA) was chosen as the functional monomer, whereas the photopolymerization (PP) method was applied using a glassy carbon electrode (GCE). Electrochemical and morphological characterizations of the developed sensor (TrpMA@QUE/MIP-GCE) were performed using cyclic voltammetry (CV), electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS), and scanning electron microscopy (SEM). The linear range of the developed sensor was determined to be in the range of 1.0-25 pM, while the limit of detection (LOD) was calculated to be 0.235 pM. In conclusion, The TrpMA@QUE/MIP-GCE sensor might be classified as a promising platform for selective and sensitive determination of QUE not only in plant extracts but also in commercial food supplements because of its reliability, reproducibility, repeatability, stability, and fast response time.

Abstract
This study focuses on the characterisation and incorporation of Moringa oleifera leaf powder (MOP) from Luanda (Angola) and its extract (MOE) in fortified chocolate mousse. Dark green (DG) leaves presented superior nutritional values compared to other leaves. DG contained a higher concentration of mineral salts (10 ± 1 mg/100 g of dry leaves), phenolic compounds (267 ± 4 mg GAE/g), vitamins (1.9 ± 0.2 mg/g of dry extract) and strong antioxidant capacity (IC50, 115 ± 8 µg/mL). Therefore, DG leaves were used to fortify the chocolate mousse. The leaves were prepared in three samples: control, 2 % MOP (w/w) and 2 % MOE (v/v). Textural and rheological analysis of chocolate mousse samples revealed a pseudoplastic profile for all samples, with decreased texture attributes and viscosity due to the incorporation. The sensory evaluation demonstrated that MOP and MOE samples presented 93 % and 88 % resemblance to the original product regarding general acceptance, respectively.

Abstract
This present study investigated the masking effect of high methoxyl pectin, xanthan gum, and gum Arabic on the astringency of the traditional herbal formula Triphala and further examined the mechanism of polysaccharide reducing astringency. Results of sensory evaluation and electronic tongue illustrated that 0.6 % pectin, 0.3 % xanthan gum, and 2 % gum Arabic had a substantial deastringent effect. The polyphenols in Triphala are basically hydrolysable tannins, which with high degree of gallic acylation may be the main astringent component of Triphala. Moreover, the three polysaccharides can combine with β-casein through CO and NH groups to form soluble binary complexes and decrease the secondary structure of β-casein. When polysaccharides were added to the Triphala-protein system, polyphenol-protein precipitation was also diminished, and they were capable of forming soluble ternary complexes. Consequently, the competition between polysaccharides and polyphenols for binding salivary proteins and the formation of ternary complexes help decrease the astringency of Triphala.

Abstract
ETHNOPHARMACOLOGICAL RELEVANCE Paeoniae Radix Rubra (PRR) is the dried root of Paeonia lactiflora Pall, which has been widely used to anti-thrombotic, lipid-lowering, anti-spasmodic, antioxidant, antibacterial, hepatoprotective, and anti-tumor in Chinese clinical practice. Recent research has demonstrated that PRR plays a significant anti-tumor role in animal models of tumor-bearing. AIM OF THE STUDY There has not been the evaluation of the anti-tumor effects of PRR. This study conducts a meta-analysis to assess the anti-tumor efficacy of PRR on animal models, providing scientific evidence for clinical application of PRR in the adjuvant therapy of tumors. MATERIALS AND METHODS English databases (PubMed, The Cochrane Library, Embase, and Web of Science) and Chinese databases (CNKI, WanFang, SinoMed, CTSJ-VIP) were used to search all pertinent animal studies investigating the anti-tumor effects of PRR and its extracts. The quality of the included studies was evaluated using the SYRCLE animal experiment risk assessment tool, and statistical analysis was carried out using Revman 5.3 software. Egger's test and funnel plots were used to assess potential publication bias in the studies. RESULTS The initial search produced a total of 3905 potentially pertinent studies, and 24 studies met the inclusion criteria. These studies included animal tumor models of hepatocellular carcinoma, lung cancer, sarcoma, bladder cancer, leukemia, colon cancer, glioblastoma, and pancreatic cancer. The meta-analysis findings demonstrated that both PRR and its extracts significantly inhibited tumor growth in animals. Compared with the control group, PRR substantively inhibited tumor volume (SMD, -3.09; 95% CI, [-4.05, -2.13]; P < 0.0001), reduced tumor weight (SMD, -1.08; 95% CI, [-1.37, -0.78]; P < 0.0001), decreased tumor number (SMD, -2.16; 95% CI, [-3.45, -0.86]; P = 0.001), and prolonged the survival duration time (SMD, 0.97; 95% CI, [0.23, 1.71]; P = 0.01) on the experimental animals. CONCLUSIONS PRR displayed a potential therapeutic efficacy on eight tumors in animal models including hepatocellular carcinoma, lung cancer, sarcoma, bladder cancer, leukemia, colon cancer, glioblastoma, and pancreatic cancer. However, the quality and quantity of included studies may affect the accuracy of positive results. In the future, more high-quality randomized controlled animal experiments are need for meta-analysis.

Abstract
Authentication and adulteration detection of closely related herbal medicines is a thorny issue in the quality control and market standardization of traditional Chinese medicine. Taking Fritillariae Bulbus (FB) as a case study, we herein proposed a three-step strategy that integrates mass spectrometry-based metabolomics and multivariate statistical analysis to identify specific markers, thereby accurately identifying FBs and determining the adulteration level. First, an ultra-high performance liquid chromatography-quadrupole time-of-flight mass spectrometry-based untargeted metabolomics method was employed to profile steroid alkaloids in five sorts of FB and screen potential differential markers. Then, the reliability of the screened markers was further verified by the distribution in different FB groups acquired from ultra-high performance liquid chromatography triple quadrupole mass spectrometry-based pseudotargeted metabolomics analysis. As a result, a total of 16 compounds were screened out to be the specific markers, which were successfully applied to distinguish five FBs by using discriminant analysis model. Besides, partial least squares regression models based on specific markers allowed accurate prediction of three sets of adulterated FBs. All the models afforded good linearity and good predictive ability with regression coefficient of prediction (R2p) > 0.9 and root mean square error of prediction (RMSEP) < 0.1. The reliable results of discriminant and quantitative analysis revealed that this proposed strategy could be potentially used to identify specific markers, which contributes to rapid chemical discrimination and adulteration detection of herbal medicines with close genetic relationship.

Abstract
The Folin-Ciocalteu method can be considered to be the most widely used in laboratories around the world, to quantify the total polyphenols content. Many different variations found in this assay have been reported in the scientific literature. In this review, the full experimental conditions influencing the Folin-Ciocalteu assay have been comparatively assessed and discussed. Furthermore, few studies relating to the method validation have been evaluated according to the results of selectivity, linearity, precision, trueness, limit of determination, limit of quantification and robustness. In general, the results derived from the reviewed literature are widely variable according to both, the experimental factors selected and the performance parameters reported, making difficult the comparison of the overall results published.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Licorice extract is an important raw material for food additives and medicine. The quality of licorice extract is dictated by the drying process. The commonly used drying methods of licorice extract are not efficient in obtaining high-quality products so alternative techniques need to be developed and researched. In this study, ultrasound-assisted vacuum drying (UAVD) was first utilized to improve drying efficiency and produce a higher-quality product. The changes in water mobility of licorice extract during drying were characterized using low-field nuclear magnetic resonance. In addition, the effects of ultrasonic power on the drying dynamics, the contents of liquiritin and glycyrrhizic acid, the antioxidant capacity and the microstructure formation of licorice extract during the whole drying process were investigated. RESULTS The drying times for licorice extract to reach equilibrium moisture content were reduced by 9.09-69.70% with UAVD at 40-200 W compared with that without ultrasonic treatment (0 W). Moreover, the proportions of bound water and semi-bound water in fresh concentrate were 3.75% and 96.25%. It was also found that high ultrasonic power promoted the flow of water and the formation of porous structure in licorice extract, which led to the improvement of drying efficiency. The contents of liquiritin (2.444%) and glycyrrhizic acid (6.514%) were retained to a large degree in the dried product at an ultrasonic power of 80 W. The DPPH inhibition rate of UAVD samples with different ultrasonic powers ranged from 84.07 ± 0.46% to 90.65 ± 0.22%. CONCLUSION UAVD has the advantages of high efficiency and low energy consumption, which may be an alternative technology for vacuum drying widely used in industry. © 2024 Society of Chemical Industry.

Abstract
Four years after its outbreak, severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) remains a global challenge for human health. At its surface, SARS-CoV-2 features numerous extensively glycosylated spike proteins. This glycan coat supports virion docking and entry into host cells and at the same time renders the virus less susceptible to neutralizing antibodies. Given the high genetic plasticity of SARS-CoV-2 and the rapid emergence of immune escape variants, targeting the glycan shield by carbohydrate-binding agents emerges as a promising strategy. However, the potential of carbohydrate-targeting reagents as viral inhibitors remains underexplored. Here, we tested seven plant-derived carbohydrate-binding proteins, called lectins, and one crude plant extract for their antiviral activity against SARS-CoV-2 in two types of human lung cells: A549 cells ectopically expressing the ACE2 receptor and Calu-3 cells. We identified three lectins and an Allium porrum (leek) extract inhibiting SARS-CoV-2 infection in both cell systems with selectivity indices (SI) ranging between >2 and >299. Amongst these, the lectin Concanavalin A (Con A) exerted the most potent and broad activity against a panel of SARS-CoV-2 variants. We used multiplex super-resolution microscopy to address lectin interactions with SARS-CoV-2 and its host cells. Notably, we discovered that Con A not only binds to SARS-CoV-2 virions and their host cells, but also causes SARS-CoV-2 aggregation. Thus, Con A exerts a dual mode-of-action comprising both, antiviral and virucidal, mechanisms. These results establish Con A and other plant lectins as candidates for COVID-19 prevention and basis for further drug development.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Ferrum phosphoricum (FP) has been used by traditional medicine practitioners for various ailments since ancient times. However, scientific evidence on the safety of FP is still unavailable. Thus, the current study aimed to investigate the acute and sub-acute oral toxicity of homeopathic FP in experimental rats. METHODS In an acute toxicity investigation, a single dose of 2,000 µL/kg of FP 6c, 30c and 200c was administered to female Wistar rats, which were monitored for up to 14 days according to the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD) guideline 423. For a sub-acute toxicity study, FP 6c, 30c and 200c (200 µL/kg) were administered to male and female rats for 28 days as per the OECD guideline 407. All the animals were observed for mortality, clinical signs and body weight during the study. At the end of the experiment, hematological, biochemical and histopathological assessments were performed. RESULTS During the acute toxicity study, no mortality was observed in rats administered with FP, and thus the median lethal dose (LD50) was identified as >2,000 µL/kg. In the sub-acute study, no mortality or adverse clinical signs were noticed with FP treatment. Moreover, weekly body weight gain was normal. Hematological and biochemical investigations revealed no abnormalities. Furthermore, histological analysis of FP-treated rats' vital organs revealed no pathological changes. CONCLUSION Overall, our findings imply that FP 6c, 30c and 200c potencies are safe and do not cause toxicity when given orally to Wistar albino rats for an extended period at a dose of 200 µL/kg.

Abstract
Chaenomeles speciosa (Sweet) Nakai fruit is a good source of phenolics with many health benefits. In this work, the enrichment of C. speciosa fruit total phenolics (CSFTP) using macroporous resins was studied. NKA-Ⅱ resin was selected for enriching CSFTP due to its highest adsorption/desorption quantity. Adsorption characteristics of CSFTP on NKA-Ⅱ resin exhibited a good fit with the Langmuir isotherm model and pseudo-second order kinetics model. This adsorption was spontaneous, exothermic, and entropy-decreasing through a physisorption mechanism. The breakthrough-elution curves were studied to optimize CSFTP enrichment conditions. One-step enrichment increased CSFTP content in the extracts from 26.51 % to 78.63 %, with a recovery of 81.03 %. A UPLC-QqQ-MS/MS method in multiple reaction monitoring (MRM) mode was established and validated for the simultaneous quantification of seven phenolic compounds. This study demonstrates the feasibility of industrial enrichment of CSFTP using NKA-Ⅱ resin and proposes a reliable method for quality control of CSFTP-rich products.

Abstract
Hippeastrum papilio (Amaryllidaceae) is a promising new source of galanthamine - an alkaloid used for the cognitive treatment of Alzheimer's disease. The biosynthesis and accumulation of alkaloids are tissue - and organ-specific. In the present study, histochemical localization of alkaloids in H. papilio's plant organs with Dragendorff's reagent, revealed their presence in all studied samples. Alkaloids were observed in vascular bundles, vacuoles, and intracellular spaces, while in other plant tissues and structures depended on the plant organ. The leaf parenchyma and the vascular bundles were indicated as alkaloid-rich structures which together with the high proportion of alkaloids in the phloem sap (49.3% of the Total Ion Current - TIC, measured by GC-MS) indicates the green tissues as a possible site of galanthamine biosynthesis. The bulbs and roots showed higher alkaloid content compared to the leaf parts. The highest alkaloid content was found in the inner bulb part. GC-MS metabolite profiling of H. papilio's root, bulb, and leaves revealed about 82 metabolites (>0.01% of TIC) in the apolar, polar, and phenolic acid fractions, including organic acids, fatty acids, sterols, sugars, amino acids, free phenolic acids, and conjugated phenolic acids. The most of organic and fatty acids were in the peak part of the root, while the outermost leaf was enriched with sterols. The outer and middle parts of the bulb had the highest amount of saccharides, while the peak part of the middle leaf had most of the amino acids, free and conjugated phenolic acids.

Abstract
Neural Architecture Search (NAS), aiming at automatically designing neural architectures by machines, has been considered a key step toward automatic machine learning. One notable NAS branch is the weight-sharing NAS, which significantly improves search efficiency and allows NAS algorithms to run on ordinary computers. Despite receiving high expectations, this category of methods suffers from low search effectiveness. By employing a generalization boundedness tool, we demonstrate that the devil behind this drawback is the untrustworthy architecture rating with the oversized search space of the possible architectures. Addressing this problem, we modularize a large search space into blocks with small search spaces and develop a family of models with the distilling neural architecture (DNA) techniques. These proposed models, namely a DNA family, are capable of resolving multiple dilemmas of the weight-sharing NAS, such as scalability, efficiency, and multi-modal compatibility. Our proposed DNA models can rate all architecture candidates, as opposed to previous works that can only access a sub- search space using heuristic algorithms. Moreover, under a certain computational complexity constraint, our method can seek architectures with different depths and widths. Extensive experimental evaluations show that our models achieve state-of-the-art top-1 accuracy of 78.9% and 83.6% on ImageNet for a mobile convolutional network and a small vision transformer, respectively. Additionally, we provide in-depth empirical analysis and insights into neural architecture ratings.

Abstract
INTRODUCTION We document the quality, veracity, and comprehensiveness of recurrent UTI information on YouTube to increase health care workers' (HCWs') awareness of UTI-related content online, and to identify deficits in understanding, clarify misconceptions, and reduce stigmatization risk. METHODS High-traffic topic search terms were curated by Google Trends to extract 200 videos, of which 45 met inclusion criteria. Five independent reviewers used a standardized questionnaire based on the AUA recurrent UTI guidelines to assess the definition of UTI, marketing content, prophylaxis/prevention strategies, and antibiotic use/stewardship. RESULTS Incongruent or incomplete guideline UTI definitions were found in 78% (35/45) of videos (K = 0.40), despite 80% (36/45) being authored by HCWs. Forty-two percent (19/45) promoted nonguideline-based hygiene practices; 25% (11/45) advocated front-to-back wiping (K = 0.71). Descriptors identified within the videos included the mention of women with UTI as unclean. Only 55% (25/45) discussed increasing fluid intake (K = 0.59), while 33% (15/45) discussed the use of cranberry supplementation (K = 0.81). CONCLUSIONS Discussion of hygiene practices which lack a specific guideline statement is particularly evident. Descriptors that characterize women with UTI as "unclean" may create a health equity concern for women experiencing UTIs. These findings should alert HCWs to the scope and emphasis in online education that patients may view to self-educate; both the errors and the issues of equity are problematic. Educational materials on UTI should be based on evidence-based guidelines, such as those by the AUA.

Abstract
Innovative solvents such as deep eutectic solvents (DESs) and process intensification technologies assisted by ultrasound have been demonstrated to be promising pathways for enhancing solid-liquid extraction. Nevertheless, quantitative and systematic knowledge of their environmental impact is still limited. In this work, a case study of flavonoids extraction from Ginkgo biloba leaves was evaluated by using life cycle assessment (LCA) for comparison of three extraction scenarios. The first used DES as extractant (DESE), and the other two adopted ethanol, including heat reflux extraction (HRE), and ultrasound-assisted extraction (UAE). Among eight key midpoints investigated, all these from UAE were 10.0 %-80.0 % lower than from DESE and HRE except water consumption. The UAE was the eco-friendliest option due to its higher extraction yield, shorter duration and lower solvent consumption. The DESE exhibited the lowest water consumption, the highest freshwater ecotoxicity and human carcinogenic toxicity, while HRE had the highest impacts for the other 6 midpoints. Moreover, solvent production was the key contributor for all the categories. The standardized sensitivity analysis showed that the overall environmental footprint can be further decreased by 15.4 % for DESE pathways via substituting choline chloride/glycerine with choline chloride/ethylene glycol. Furthermore, all pathways using DESs had higher standardized impacts than those employing ethanol from sugarcane or wood. Replacing ethanol from maize with other feedstocks can significantly lessen the overall impacts, among which the UAE using ethanol from sugarcane demonstrated the least environmental impacts. The promotion of DESs as "green and sustainable" alternative to traditional solvents requires careful consideration.

Abstract
The skeletal transformations of diterpenoid forskolin were achieved by employing an oxidative rearrangement strategy. A library of 36 forskolin analogues with structural diversity was effectively generated. Computational analysis shows that 12 CTD compounds with unique scaffolds and ring systems were produced during the course of this work.

Abstract
Plant extracts have played a significant role in traditional medicine for centuries, contributing to improved health and the treatment of various human illnesses. G protein-coupled receptors (GPCRs) are crucial in numerous physiologic functions, and there is growing evidence suggesting their involvement in the therapeutic effects of many plant extracts. In recent years, scientists have identified an expanding number of isolated molecules responsible for the biologic activity of these extracts, with many believed to act on GPCRs. This article critically reviews the evidence supporting the modulation of GPCR function by these plant-derived molecules through direct binding. Structural information is now available for some of these molecules, allowing for a comparison of their binding mode with that of endogenous GPCR ligands. The final section explores future trends and challenges, focusing on the identification of new plant-derived molecules with both orthosteric and allosteric binding modes, as well as innovative strategies for designing GPCR ligands inspired by these plant-derived compounds. In conclusion, plant-derived molecules are anticipated to play an increasingly vital role as therapeutic drugs and serve as templates for drug design. SIGNIFICANCE STATEMENT: This minireview summarizes the most pertinent publications on isolated plant-derived molecules interacting with G protein-coupled receptors (GPCRs) and comments on available structural information on GPCR/plant-derived ligand pairs. Future challenges and trends for the isolation and characterization of plant-derived molecules and drug design are discussed.

Abstract
Functional antibacterial textile materials are in great demand in the medical sector. In this paper, we propose a facile, eco-friendly approach to the design of antibacterial biodegradable cotton fabrics. Cotton fiber fabrics were enhanced with a chitosan coating loaded with plant extracts and essential oils. We employed Fourier-transform infrared (FTIR) and X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS), UV-Vis spectrophotometry, optical microscopy, scanning electron microscopy (SEM), and thermogravimetric analysis (TGA) to characterize the color, structure, and thermal properties of the modified fabrics. The fabrics were found to effectively induce growth inhibition of Gram-positive and Gram-negative bacteria, especially when a synergic system of aloe vera extract and cinnamon essential oil was applied in the coating formulation. Additionally, we observed significant color and weight changes after 5, 10, and 20 days in soil biodegradability tests. Given the straightforward modification process and the use of non-toxic natural materials, these innovative bio-based and biodegradable cotton fabrics show great promise as protective antimicrobial textiles for healthcare applications.

Abstract
The current study evaluated the effects of supplementing cassava root silage (CRS) to dairy cows grazing on Megathyrsus maximus cv Mombasa on nutrient intake and digestibility, as well as on milk production and composition. Ten primiparous Girolando cows with average body weight ± (SEM) of 373.45 ± (63.55) kg were used in a replicated 5 × 5 Latin square. Animals were subjected to five treatments: (I) grazing cows without supplementation (WCS); (II) grazing cows provided with 5 kg DM of supplement without CRS (0 g/kg DM of CRS) or including (III) 260, (IV) 520, and (V) 780 g/kg DM of CRS. Statistical analyses were performed using the PROC MIXED of SAS with significance at P < 0.05. Intake of neutral detergent fiber (NDF) and ether extract decreased (P < 0.01), while intake of non-fiber carbohydrates increased (P < 0.01), with increased CRS in the diets. Total DM intake and digestibility of DM, and digestibility of nutritional components were lower (P < 0.03) in WCS animals compared to supplemented animals, except for intake and digestibility of NDF, which was the opposite. Milk yield (MY) and fat corrected milk (FCM), as well as all milk components were unaffected (P > 0.05) by CRS inclusion. In contrast, MY, FCM, protein, lactose, casein, and non-fat milk solids (NFMS) were greater for animals that received supplementation (P < 0.05), compared to animals WCS. Milk fat and total dry extract (TMS) did not differ (P > 0.11) between two groups. In conclusion, CRS may be a potential corn meal replacer in the supplement of dairy cows under tropical conditions.

Abstract
CONTEXT Several meta-analyses have been conducted on the effect of nutritional interventions on various factors related to muscle damage. However, the strength of the evidence and its clinical significance are unclear. OBJECTIVES This umbrella review aimed to provide an evidence-based overview of nutritional interventions for exercise-induced muscle damage (EIMD). DATA SOURCES PubMed, Scopus, and ISI Web of Science were systematically searched up to May 2022. DATA EXTRACTION Systematic reviews and meta-analyses of randomized controlled trials investigating nutritional interventions' effects on recovery following EIMD were included. The certainty of the evidence was rated using the Grading of Recommendations Assessment, Development, and Evaluation (GRADE). RESULTS Fifty-three randomized controlled trial meta-analyses were included, evaluating 24 nutritional interventions on 10 different outcomes. The results revealed a significant effect of hydroxymethylbutyrate (HMB) supplementation and l-carnitine supplementation for reducing postexercise creatine kinase; HMB supplementation for reducing lactate dehydrogenase; branched-chain amino acids and leaf extract supplementation for reducing the delayed onset of muscle soreness; and l-carnitine, curcumin, ginseng, polyphenols, and anthocyanins for reducing muscle soreness, all with moderate certainty of evidence. CONCLUSIONS Supplementation with HMB, l-carnitine, branched-chain amino acids, curcumin, ginseng, leaf extract, polyphenols, and anthocyanins showed favorable effects on some EIMD-related outcomes. Abstract
Advancement in bioinspired alloy nanomaterials has a crucial impact on fuel cell applications. Here, we report the synthesis of PtPd alloy nanoclusters via the hydrothermal method using Piper longum extract, representing a novel and environmentally friendly approach. Physicochemical characteristics of the synthesized nanoclusters were investigated using various instrumentation techniques, including X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy, X-ray diffraction, and High-Resolution Transmission electron microscopy. The electrocatalytic activity of the biogenic PtPd nanoclusters towards the oxidation of formic acid and methanol was evaluated chronoamperometry and cyclic voltammetry studies. The surface area of the electrocatalyst was determined to be 36.6 m2g-1 by Electrochemical Surface Area (ECSA) analysis. The biologically inspired PtPd alloy nanoclusters exhibited significantly higher electrocatalytic activity compared to commercial Pt/C, with specific current responses of 0.24 mA cm - 2 and 0.17 mA cm - 2 at synthesis temperatures of 180 °C and 200 °C, respectively, representing approximately four times higher oxidation current after 120 min. This innovative synthesis approach offers a promising pathway for the development of PtPd alloy nanoclusters with enhanced electrocatalytic activity, thereby advancing fuel cell technology towards a sustainable energy solution.

Abstract
Tannins, present in numerous plants, exhibit a binding affinity for proteins. In this study, we aimed to exploit this property to reduce the concentration of allergenic egg white proteins. Tannins were extracted, using hot water, from the lyophilized powder of underutilized resources, such as chestnut inner skin (CIS), young persimmon fruit (YPF), and bayberry leaves (BBLs). These extracts were then incorporated into an egg white solution (EWS) to generate an egg white gel (EWG). Allergen reduction efficacy was assessed using electrophoresis and ELISA. Our findings revealed a substantial reduction in allergenic proteins across all EWGs containing a 50% tannin extract. Notably, CIS and BBL exhibited exceptional efficacy in reducing low allergen levels. The addition of tannin extract resulted in an increase in the total polyphenol content of the EWG, with the order of effectiveness being CIS > YPF > BBL. Minimal color alteration was observed in the BBL-infused EWG compared to the other sources. Additionally, the introduction of tannin extract heightened the hardness stress, with BBL demonstrating the most significant effect, followed by CIS and YPF. In conclusion, incorporating tannin extract during EWG preparation was found to decrease the concentration of allergenic proteins while enhancing antioxidant properties and hardness stress, with BBL being particularly effective in preventing color changes in EWG.

Abstract
ETHNOPHARMACOLOGICAL RELEVANCE Conventional treatments for Hashimoto's thyroiditis (HT) are limited. Herbal medicines (HM) are considered a potential intervention for the treatment of HT. AIM OF THE STUDY This study aimed to investigate the efficacy and safety of HM for HT. MATERIALS AND METHODS A Bayesian network meta-analysis was conducted for patients with HT in randomized controlled trials identified in PubMed, Cochrane Library, Web of Science, EMBASE, Chinese Clinical Trial Registry (Chi CTR), China National Knowledge Infrastructure (CNKI), China Science and Technology Journal Database (the VIP), China Chinese Biomedical Database (CBM), and Wanfang Database were searched from their inception to Oct 1, 2022. Outcomes included the primary outcome (TPOAb), secondary outcomes (TSH, TGAb, FT3, FT4, and traditional Chinese medicine symptom scores), and adverse events. This study was registered in PROSPERO (CRD42022363640). RESULTS Sixteen trials were reviewed and 16 HM formulae were compared. Compared with non-drug therapy (NDT), all therapies, except for Tiaoqi-Qingjie Therapy, reduced the primary outcome of TPOAb with different levels of effectiveness, ranging from 0.01 (95%CI 0.00, 0.02) to 0.92 (95%CI 0.56, 1.53). Ranking probability analysis indicated that Yiqi Huayu Recipe, Liqi Xiaoying decoction, and Shugan Sanjie therapy reduced thyroid antibody levels the most, including TPOAb (100.0%, 90.9%, and 90.3%, respectively) and TGAb (98.3%, 94.4%, and 87.3%, respectively). All HMs displayed a significant effect on the TCM Symptom score and possibly benefitted the treatment of HT, ranging from 6.62 (95% CI 2.06, 21.24) to 94.50 (95% CI 15.97, 559.14). No serious adverse events were reported. CONCLUSIONS Herbal medicines may be effective in the treatment of HT, especially in reducing thyroid antibody levels and improving clinical symptoms without affecting thyroid function. However, these results should be considered preliminary and further verified using high-quality evidence.

Abstract
BACKGROUND The determination of genome size is a fundamental step which provides a basis to initiate studies aimed at deciphering the genetic similarity of a species and to carry out other genomics based investigations. Fenugreek (Trigonella spp.) is an important spice crop which has numerous health promoting phytochemicals. Many species within this genus are known for their various health benefits owing to the presence of a wide diversity of important phytochemicals like diosgenin, trigonelline, fenugreekine, galactomannan, 4-hydroxy isoleucine, etc. It is a multipurpose crop being cultivated for food, animal feed and industrial purposes. Despite its importance, research on the genomics aspect of fenugreek remains scant. In the absence of sufficient genomic information, crop improvement in fenugreek is severely lagging. METHODS AND RESULTS Estimation of genome size of a species is the preliminary step for initiation of any genomic studies and therefore in the present study we have estimated the genome size for fenugreek. Here, we have determined the genome sizes of three different Trigonella spp. namely T. foenum-graecum, T. corniculata and T. caerulea through flow cytometry (FC). The 2 C DNA content values were found to be 6.05 pg (T. foenum-graecum), 1.83 pg (T. corniculata) and 1.96 pg (T. caerulea). The genome size of T. foenum-graecum is approximately three times the genome size of T. corniculata and T. caerulea. This variation in genome size of more than three-fold indicates the level of genetic divergence among the three species, though within the same genus. CONCLUSIONS The differences observed in the genome sizes of the three species provide conclusive evidence of their genetic divergence. Additionally, the information about the genome size would provide an impetus to the structural and functional genomics-based research in this crop.

Abstract
The value of detecting hepatitis B virus (HBV), pregenomic RNA (pgRNA), and hepatitis B core-related antigen (HBcrAg), both separately and jointly, in the management of HBV patients undergoing treatment with Nucleotide Analog was investigated. A total of 149 HBV patients who were being treated with Nucleotide Analog were enrolled in this study. The quantitative levels of HBV pgRNA and HBcrAg in the sera of these patients were determined, aiming to comprehend their replication levels and expression during the course of antiviral therapy. The patients were separated into 3 groups based on treatment duration: treatment time ≤ 12 months, treatment time ranging from 12 months to <60 months, and treatment time ≥ 60 months. Significantly different levels of HBcrAg and HBV pgRNA were observed among 3 groups (P < .05). In the group of patients with positive hepatitis B e antigen, both HBcrAg and pgRNA levels were higher compared to the group with negative hepatitis B e antigen, and this difference between the 2 groups was found to be statistically significant. Stratified analysis based on levels of hepatitis B surface antigen (HBsAg) revealed that the group with HBsAg levels < 100 IU/mL had lower levels of both HBcrAg and pgRNA compared to the group with HBsAg levels ≥ 100 IU/mL (P < .001). Following antiviral therapy, various degrees of transcription of covalently closed circular DNA continue to exist within the liver of HBV patients. The levels of serum HBcrAg and HBV pgRNA vary among patients with different treatment durations, indicating their efficacy in evaluating disease conditions during antiviral therapy.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Infants who are born from mothers with substance use disorder might suffer from neonatal abstinence syndrome (NAS) and need treatment with medicines. One of these medicines is phenobarbital, which may cause side effects in long-term consumption. Alternative drugs can be used to reduce these side effects. This study seeks the comparison of the effects of phenobarbital & levetiracetam as adjuvant therapy in neonatal abstinence syndrome. METHODS This randomized clinical trial was performed in one year from May 2021 until May 2022. The neonates who were born from mothers with substance use disorder and had neonatal abstinence syndrome in Afzalipoor Hospital of Kerman were studied. The treatment started with morphine initially and every four hours the infants were checked. The infants who were diagnosed with uncontrolled symptoms After obtaining informed consent from the parents were randomly divided into two groups and treated with secondary drugs, either phenobarbital or levetiracetam. RESULTS Based on the obtained results, it was clear that there was no significant difference between the hospitalization time of the two infant groups under therapy (phenobarbital: 18.59 days versus Levetiracetam 18.24 days) (P-value = 0.512). Also, there was no significant difference between both groups in terms of the frequency of re-hospitalization during the first week after discharge, the occurrence of complications, and third treatment line prescription (P-value = 0.644). CONCLUSIONS Based on the obtained results, like hospitalization duration time (P-value = 0.512) it seems that levetiracetam can be used to substitute phenobarbital in treating neonatal abstinence syndrome. TRIAL REGISTRATION The current study has been registered in the Iran registry of clinical trials website (fa.irct.ir) on the date 25/2/2022 with registration no. IRCT20211218053444N2.

Abstract
Gentian, an herb resource known for its antioxidant properties, has garnered significant attention. However, existing methods are time-consuming and destructive for assessing the antioxidant activity in gentian root samples. In this study, we propose a method for swiftly predicting the antioxidant activity of gentian root using FT-IR spectroscopy combined with chemometrics. We employed machine learning and deep learning models to establish the relationship between FT-IR spectra and DPPH free radical scavenging activity. The results of model fitting reveal that the deep learning model outperforms the machine learning model. The model's performance was enhanced by incorporating the Double-Net and residual connection strategy. The enhanced model, named ResD-Net, excels in feature extraction and also avoids gradient vanishing. The ResD-Net model achieves an R2 of 0.933, an RMSE of 0.02, and an RPD of 3.856. These results support the accuracy and applicability of this method for rapidly predicting antioxidant activity in gentian root samples.

Abstract
Amadori rearrangement products of asparagine with glucose (Asn-Glc-ARP) were first prepared through Maillard model reactions and identified via liquid chromatography-mass spectroscopy. With the study on the effect of the reaction temperature, pH values, and reaction time, the ideal reaction condition for accumulation of Asn-Glc-ARP was determined at 100 °C for 40 min under pH 7. Asparagine (Asn) was prone to degrade from Asn-Glc-ARP in alkaline pH values within a lower temperature range, while in an acidic environment with high temperatures, deamidation of Asn-Glc-ARP to Asp-Glc-ARP (Amadori rearrangement products of aspartic acid with glucose) was displayed as the dominant pathway. The deamidation reaction on the side chain of the amide group took place at Asn-Glc-ARP and transferred it into the hydroxyl group, forming Asp-Glc-ARP at the end. Considering that lyophilization as pretreatment led to limited water activity, a single aspartic acid was not deamidated from Asn directly nor did it degrade from Asp-Glc-ARP even at 120 °C. The degradation of Asn-Glc-ARP through tandem mass spectrometry (MS/MS) analysis showed the obvious fragment ion at m/z 211, indicating that the stable oxonium ion formed during fragmentation. The structure of Asn-Glc-ARP was proposed as 1-deoxy-1-l-asparagino-d-fructose after separation and purification. Also, the content of Asn-Glc-ARP within dry jujube fruit (HeTianYuZao) was quantitated as high as 8.1 ± 0.5 mg/g.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE To investigate the mechanism of Ling-Gui-Zhu-Gan decoction (LGZGD) protects against doxorubicin (DOX)-induced myocardial injury. METHODS In vivo experiment, rats were divided into six groups: normal group, model group (15 mg/kg, DOX), Dex group(150 mg/kg, Dex), LGZGD-L group (2.1 g/kg), LGZGD-M group (4.2 g/kg), and LGZGD-H group (8.4 g/kg). We used HE and Masson staining to observe the histopathological changes, echocardiography to assess the cardiac function, and western blot and RT-qPCR to detect the expressions of Nrf2, GPX4, Fpn1, and Ptgs2. In vitro experiment, we used immunofluorescence to detect ROS production, and RT-qPCR to detect gene expression of GPX4, Fpn1, and Ptgs2. KEY FINDINGS In vivo, LGZGD improved cardiac systolic function. LGZGD significantly reduced MDA, LDH, and CK levels, increased SOD activity, enhanced the protein expression of Nrf2, GPX4, and Fpn1, and decreased Ptgs2 levels. In vitro, LGZGD-containing serum significantly reduced ROS, increased the gene expression of GPX4 and Fpn1, and decreased the gene expression of Ptgs2. Furthermore, compared with the LGZGD (si-NC) group, the LGZGD (si-Nrf2) group had decreased gene expression of Nrf2, GPX4, and Fpn1 and increased gene expression of Ptgs2. CONCLUSIONS LGZGD can ameliorate DOX-cardiotoxicity by activating the Nrf2 signaling pathway and inhibiting ferroptosis in cardiomyocytes.

Abstract
Carbon (C) and nitrogen (N) metabolisms participate in N source-regulated secondary metabolism in medicinal plants, but the specific mechanisms involved remain to be investigated. By using nitrate (NN), ammonium (AN), urea (UN), and glycine (GN), respectively, as sole N sources, we found that N sources remarkably affected the contents of diterpenoid lactone components along with C and N metabolisms reprograming in Andrographis paniculata, as compared to NN, the other three N sources raised the levels of 14-deoxyandrographolide, andrographolide, dehydroandrographolide (except UN), and neoandrographolide (except AN) with a prominent accumulation of farnesyl pyrophosphate (FPP). These N sources also raised the photosynthetic rate and the levels of fructose and/or sucrose but reduced the activities of phosphofructokinase (PFK), glyceraldehyde-3-phosphate dehydrogenase (GAPDH), phosphoenolpyruvate carboxylase (PEPC) and pyruvate dehydrogenase (PDH). Conversely, phosphoenolpyruvate carboxykinase (PEPCK) and malate enzyme (ME) activities were upregulated. Simultaneously, citrate, cis-aconitate and isocitrate levels declined, and N assimilation was inhibited. These results indicated that AN, UN and GN reduced the metabolic flow of carbohydrates from glycolysis into the TCA cycle and downstream N assimilation. Furthermore, they enhanced arginine and GABA metabolism, which increased C replenishment of the TCA cycle, and increased ethylene and salicylic acid (SA) levels. Thus, we proposed that the N sources reprogrammed C and N metabolism, attenuating the competition of N assimilation for C, and promoting the synthesis and accumulation of andrographolide through plant hormone signaling. To obtain a higher production of andrographolide in A. paniculata, AN fertilizer is recommended in its N management.

Abstract
Endothelial dysfunction (ED) is an initiating trigger and key factor in vascular complications, leading to disability and mortality in individuals with diabetes. The research concerning therapeutic interventions for ED has gained considerable interest. Fenugreek, a commonly used edible plant in dietary consumption, has attracted significant attention due to its management of diabetes and its associated complications. The research presented in this study examines the potential therapeutic benefits of fenugreek in treating ED and investigates the underlying mechanism associated with its effects. The analysis on fenugreek was performed using 70% ethanol extract, and its chemical composition was analyzed using ultrahigh-performance liquid chromatography coupled with quadrupole time-of-flight mass spectrometry (UPLC-Q-TOF/MS). In total, we identified 49 compounds present in the fenugreek extract. These compounds encompass flavonoids, saponins, and phospholipids. Then, the models of ED in streptozotocin-induced diabetic mice and high glucose-induced isolated rat aortas were established for research. Through vascular function testing, it was observed that fenugreek extract effectively improved ED induced by diabetes or high glucose. By analyzing the protein expression of arginase 1 (Arg1), Arg activity, Arg1 immunohistochemistry, nitric oxide (NO) level, and the protein expression of endothelial nitric oxide synthase (eNOS), p38 mitogen-activated protein kinase (p38 MAPK), and p-p38 MAPK in aortas, this study revealed that the potential mechanism of fenugreek extract in anti-ED involves the downregulation of Arg1, leading to enhanced NO production. Furthermore, analysis of serum exosomes carrying Arg activity indicates that fenugreek may decrease the activity of Arg transported by serum exosomes, potentially preventing the increase in Arg levels triggered by the uptake of serum exosomes by vascular endothelial cells. In general, this investigation offers valuable observations regarding the curative impact of fenugreek extract on anti-ED in diabetes, revealing the involvement of the Arg1 pathway in its mechanism.

Abstract
Celery (Apium graveolens L.) has long been considered as a potential herbal medicine for the prevention and treatment of gout. However, the relationship between the chemical constituents and pharmacological activities of this medicinal plant has not been fully investigated yet. Therefore, this study aims to apply network pharmacology, molecular docking and molecular dynamics to explore the relationship between the chemical constituents of celery seed and its biological effects in the treatment of gout. Network pharmacology was built and analyzed based on the data collected from GeneCards, OMIM databases and SwissTargetPrediction web server using Cytoscape 3.9.0 software. The GO and KEGG pathway analysis of the potential targets of celery seed related to gout disease was performed using the ShinyGO v0.75 app. Molecular docking and molecular dynamics were carried out using Autodock vina and NAMD 2.14 software, respectively. The network analysis identified 16 active compounds and thirteen key targets of celery seed in the treatment of gout. The GO analysis and the KEGG pathway enrichment analysis suggested that the mechanism of action of the chemical constituents of celery seed might be involved in several pathways, notably the PI3K-Akt signaling pathway, Ras signaling pathway, and HIF-1 signaling pathway, respectively. Molecular docking and molecular dynamics revealed that apiumetin might be an important chemical that plays a key role in the pharmacological effect of celery seed. These results might be useful to select the Q-markers to control the quality of the products from celery seeds.Communicated by Ramaswamy H. Sarma.

Abstract
Nowadays, cartilage tissue engineering (CTE) is considered important due to lack of repair of cartilaginous lesions and the absence of appropriate methods for treatment. In this study, polycaprolactone (PCL) scaffolds were fabricated by three-dimensional (3D) printing and were then coated with fibrin (F) and acellular solubilized extracellular matrix (ECM). After extracting adipose-derived stem cells (ADSCs), 3D-printed scaffolds were characterized and compared to hydrogel groups. After inducing the chondrogenic differentiation in the presence of Piascledine and comparing it with TGF-β3 for 28 days, the expression of genes involved in chondrogenesis (AGG, COLII) and the expression of the hypertrophic gene (COLX) were examined by real-time PCR. The expression of proteins COLII and COLX was also determined by immunohistochemistry. Glycosaminoglycan was measured by toluidine blue staining. 3D-printed scaffolds clearly improved cell proliferation, viability, water absorption and compressive strength compared to the hydrogel groups. Moreover, the use of compounds such as ECM and Piascledine in the process of ADSCs chondrogenesis induction increased cartilage-specific markers and decreased the hypertrophic marker compared to TGF-β3. In Piascledine groups, the expression of COLL II protein, COLL II and Aggrecan genes, and the amount of glycosaminoglycan showed a significant increase in the PCL/F/ECM compared to the PCL and PCL/F groups.

Abstract
As etiological agents of malaria disease, Plasmodium spp. parasites are responsible for one of the most severe global health problems occurring in tropical regions of the world. This work involved compiling marine cyanobacteria metabolites reported in the scientific literature that exhibit antiplasmodial activity. Out of the 111 compounds mined and 106 tested, two showed antiplasmodial activity at very low concentrations, with IC50 at 0.1 and 1.5 nM (peptides: dolastatin 10 and lyngbyabellin A, 1.9% of total tested). Examples of chemical derivatives generated from natural cyanobacterial compounds to enhance antiplasmodial activity and Plasmodium selectivity can be found in successful findings from nostocarboline, eudistomin, and carmaphycin derivatives, while bastimolide derivatives have not yet been found. Overall, 57% of the reviewed compounds are peptides with modified residues producing interesting active moieties, such as α- and β-epoxyketone in camaphycins. The remaining compounds belong to diverse chemical groups such as alkaloids, macrolides, polycyclic compounds, and halogenated compounds. The Dolastatin 10 and lyngbyabellin A, compounds with antiplasmodial high activity, are cytoskeletal disruptors with different protein targets.

Abstract
The present study was designed to evaluate whether AuNPs (gold nanoparticles) synthesized with the Cynara scolymus (CS) leaf exert protective and/or alleviative effects on arsenic (As)-induced hippocampal neurotoxicity in mice. Neurotoxicity in mice was developed by orally treating 10 mg/kg/day sodium arsenite (NaAsO2) for 21 days. 10 µg/g AuNPs, 1.6 g/kg CS, and 10 µg/g CS-AuNPs were administered orally simultaneously with 10 mg/kg As. CS and CS-AuNPs treatments showed down-regulation of TNF-α and IL-1β levels. CS and CS-AuNPs also ameliorated apoptosis and reduced the alterations in the expression levels of D1 and D2 dopamine receptors induced by As. Simultaneous treatment with CS and CS-AuNPs improved As-induced learning, memory deficits, and motor coordination in mice assessed by water maze and locomotor tests, respectively. The results of this study provide evidence that CS-AuNPs demonstrated neuroprotective roles with antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, and anti-apoptotic effects, as well as improving D1 and D2 signaling, and eventually reversed neurobehavioral impairments.

Abstract
Yerba mate (Ilex paraguariensis) is a forest species consumed in the form of non-alcoholic beverages in South America, with applications in foods, cosmetics, and pharmaceutical industries. The species leaves are globally recognized for their important bioactive compounds, including, saponins. We adjusted the vanillin-acid sulfuric method for determining spectrophotometrically the total saponin in yerba mate leaves. Seeking to maximize the extraction of saponins from leaves, a Doehlert design combined with Response Surface Methodology (RSM) was used, considering ethanol:water ratios and ultrasound times. In addition, the same methodology was used for the analysis of times and temperatures in the vanillin-sulfuric acid reaction heating. The contents of total saponin in mature leaves were compared in four yerba mate clones. The extraction was maximized using 40 % ethanol:60 % water and 60 minutes of ultrasound assisted extraction (UAE) without heating. For the reaction conditions, 70 °C for 10 minutes heating is recommended, and UV/Vis reading from 460 to 680 nm. Using the optimized methodology, total saponin contents ranged from 28.43 to 53.09 mg g-1 in the four yerba mate clones. The significant difference in saponin contents between clones indicate great genetic diversity and potential for clones' selection and extraction of these compounds from yerba mate leaves.

Abstract
The abundance of saponin-rich plants across different ecosystems indicates their great potential as a replacement for harmful synthetic surfactants in modern commercial products. These organic saponins have remarkable biological and surface-active properties and align with sustainable and eco-friendly practices. This article examines and discusses the structure and properties of plant saponins with high yield of saponin concentrations and their exploitable applications. This highlights the potential of saponins as ethical substitutes for traditional synthetic surfactants and pharmacological agents, with favorable effects on the economy and environment. For this purpose, studies on the relevant capabilities, structure, and yield of selected plants were thoroughly examined. Studies on the possible uses of the selected saponins have also been conducted. This in-depth analysis highlights the potential of saponins as workable and ethical replacements for traditional synthetic medications and surfactants, thus emphasizing their favorable effects on human health and the environment.

Abstract
A natural irrigation solution with a broad spectrum of antimicrobial coverage, triphala was selected for the pulpectomy procedure. Because of its natural ingredients, it is well-known for promoting tissue healing. It also supposedly has certain additional qualities as compared to usual irrigation solutions that are made chemically. Although 2.5% NaOCl is thought to be perfect since it meets most of the requirements for an irrigation solution but it cannot be optimized for pulpectomy procedure. Primary teeth that were recommended for pulpectomy underwent this randomized controlled experiment. Two groups of eighty-four primary teeth were randomly assigned to receive irrigations: triphala in Group A; 2.5% Sodium hypochlorite in Group B. Sample were taken from infected primary root canals. A sterile test tube with bhi broth as the transport media was used to collect pre- and post-irrigation samples using sterile absorbent paper tips. On agar media, microorganisms were cultivated and their mean colony count was assessed. Following the procedure, the patient's follow-up visits at one, two and three months were used to evaluate the clinical result. The post-microbial colony count was dramatically reduced (p<0.001) by both irrigation treatments. Triphala in Group A is demonstrating desirable efficacy. Clinical success was found satisfactory in both the groups studied (p<0.001). But statistically significant difference was not found (p=0.175). Considering undesirable properties of sodium hypochlorite triphala can be a better alternative as a root canal irrigants in pulpectomy of primary teeth.

This review focuses on Lippia alba (Mill.) essential oil's potential as a complementary breast cancer treatment. With growing interest in natural approaches, Lippia alba shows promise in breast cancer management. The review will explore Lippia alba's multifaceted role in treatment, highlighting its anticancer effects on breast cancer cells, potential synergy with conventional treatments, safety profiles, and existing clinical evidence. It will also address knowledge gaps, stressing the need for further research to unlock Lippia alba's full therapeutic potential in breast cancer therapy. In a field craving novel therapies, this review offers a timely analysis. Despite the lack of existing reviews on this topic, Lippia alba's significance cannot be understated. As research progresses, this article will be a valuable resource for researchers and healthcare practitioners seeking to augment breast cancer management through complementary therapies.

Abstract
With the extensive application of baicalein in the treatment of cardiovascular and cerebrovascular diseases, its clinical and market demand has gradually expanded. But the natural yield of baicalein is very low, and it is mainly prepared by the deglycosylation of baicalin. However, the insolubility of baicalin in water significantly limits the deglycosylation of it under biocatalysis. To make biocatalysis of baicalin more efficient and environmental, a strategy was designed to enhance its water solubility through the solubilization mechanism of endogenous biological macromolecules, and the effect on the activity of glucuronidase was further explored. The results showed that wrapping with Scutellaria baicalensis polysaccharide (SBP) significantly improved the solubility of baicalin in water (the water solubility of baicalin increased by 23 times, BI/SBP = 1/12, w/w). It was not only contributed to the efficient production of baicalein by one-pot method, but also effectively improved the deglycosylation rate of baicalin (increase by 47.04 % in aqueous solution). With the help of the solubilization of endogenous polysaccharide on baicalin in aqueous solution, a green, low-cost and efficient method (one-pot method) was designed to simultaneously extract and enzymatic hydrolyze baicalin to prepare baicalein. Under the same conditions, the yield of one-pot method is 87.17 %, which was much higher than that of the conventional method (29.38 %). In addition, one-pot method with the aid of endogenous polysaccharide could simply and conveniently prepare aglycone of other insoluble natural flavonoids, which has a wide range of industrial application value.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Portulacae Herba and Granati Pericarpium pair (PGP) is a traditional Chinese herbal medicine treatment for colitis, clinically demonstrating a relatively favorable effect on relieving diarrhea and abnormal stools. However, the underlying mechanism remain uncertain. PURPOSE The present study intends to evaluate the efficacy of PGP in treating colitis in mice and investigate its underlying mechanism. METHODS The protective effect of PGP against colitis was determined by monitoring body weight, colon length, colon weight, and survival rate in mice. Colonic inflammation was assessed by serum cytokine levels, colonic H&E staining, and local neutrophil infiltration. The reversal of intestinal epithelial barrier damage by PGP was subsequently analyzed with Western blot and histological staining. Furthermore, RNA-seq analysis and molecular docking were performed to identify potential pathways recruited by PGP. Following the hints of the transcriptomic results, the role of PGP through the IL-6/STAT3/SOCS3 pathway in DSS-induced colitis mice was verified by Western blot. RESULTS DSS-induced colitis in mice was significantly curbed by PGP treatment. PGP treatment significantly mitigated DSS-induced colitis in mice, as evidenced by improvements in body weight, DAI severity, survival rate, and inflammatory cytokines levels in serum and colon. Moreover, PGP treatment up-regulated the level of Slc26a3, thereby increasing the expressions of the tight junction/adherens junction proteins ZO-1, occludin and E-cadherin in the colon. RNA-seq analysis revealed that PGP inhibits the IL-6/STAT3/SOCS3 pathway at the transcriptional level. Molecular docking indicated that the major components of PGP could bind tightly to the proteins of IL-6 and SOCS3. Meanwhile, the result of Western blot revealed that the IL-6/STAT3/SOCS3 pathway was inhibited at the protein level after PGP administration. CONCLUSION PGP could alleviate colonic inflammation and reverse damage to the intestinal epithelial barrier in DSS-induced colitis mice. The underlying mechanism involves the inhibition of the IL-6/STAT3/SOCS3 pathway.

Abstract
Erythritol has been produced by various microorganisms including Yarrowia, Moniliella, Aureobasidium, and Candida strains. Due to its relatively high price, erythritol sweetener is used lesser than other polyols despite having many advantages. Therefore, in this study, Moniliella pollinis strain was improved for erythritol production by chemical mutagenesis and subsequently screening for cost-effective carbon sources for the enhanced erythritol yield. M. pollinis was subjected to N-methyl N-nitro N-nitroso guanidine (NTG), ethyl methyl sulfonate (EMS), and UV mutagenesis for improved erythritol production. The fmutant strains were evaluated for enhanced erythritol production medium optimization by using different carbon substrates at the shake flask level. To enhance the production of erythritol and statistical media, optimization was carried out using a central composite design (CCD). Among 198 isolated mutants, Mutant-58 strain generated by EMS mutagenesis was selected for further assessment. The Mutant-58 strain showed significant morphological changes as compared to the parent strain. Furthermore, statistically optimized media composition resulted in the higher production of erythritol (91.2 ± 3.4 g/L) with a yield of 40.7 ± 3.4 % in shake flask experiments. The optimized medium composition for erythritol production constitutes (g/L) 225 jaggery, 4.4 yeast extract (YE), 4.4 KH2PO4, 0.31 MgSO4, and pH 5.5. The present study demonstrated strain improvement, media, and process optimization resulting in a 30% increase in the erythritol production in the Mutant-58 as compared to the parent strain. This is also the first instance where jaggery has been used as a cost-effective carbon source alternative to glucose for industrial-scale erythritol production.
