Abstract
Healthy Longevity Medicine aims to optimize health by targeting aging processes across the lifespan. Addressing accelerated aging involves adaptation of lifestyle and the use of geroprotective drugs and supplements, including nutritional supplements and bioactive compounds. The Food and Drug Administration, under the Dietary Supplement Health and Education Act, categorizes bioactive compounds and medicinal products as dietary supplements. While numerous companies sell ingredients that can be deemed geroprotectors, there's limited oversight in their quality control. Governmental safety authorities only verify the presence of prohibited compounds, not the accuracy of ingredients listed on labels. Here, Nicotinamide mononucleotide and Urolithin A supplements, easily accessible online or in pharmacies, were tested for their active ingredient content. Results showed a significant deviation from the labeled amounts, ranging from + 28.6% to -100%. This indicates a considerable disparity in the quality of geroprotective supplements. To address this variability, collaboration between and within societies representing healthcare professionals, industry and regulatory bodies is imperative to ensure the quality of geroprotective supplements.

Abstract
Human respiratory syncytial virus (HRSV) can infect individuals of all ages, with children under five years old, the elderly, and immunocompromised persons as the main high-risk groups. Although older children and adults often exhibit mild or no symptoms, they may still be potential carriers of the virus. Therefore, employing efficient, accurate, and rapid detection methods to timely identify infection sources and quickly halt transmission is an important means to curb the potential spread of the epidemic. However, the clinical manifestations of HRSV infection are difficult to distinguish from acute respiratory infections caused by other respiratory viruses, and the identification relies on the results of pathogen testing. This article summarizes four commonly used detection methods for HRSV based on detection principles: antigen detection, nucleic acid testing, antibody detection, and virus isolation. The advantages, disadvantages, principles, and applicable scenarios of these four methods are summarized and compared. Furthermore, the research progress and prospects of HRSV detection methods are reviewed.

Abstract
Conflicting evidence suggests a link between diabetes-related microvascular complications and periodontitis. Reliable estimates have been hindered by small sample sizes and residual confounding. Moreover, the combined effects of microvascular complications and dyslipidemia on periodontitis have not been explored. Therefore, this study aimed to investigate the association between individual and combined diabetic microvascular complications (i.e., neuropathy and retinopathy) and moderate/severe periodontitis in a Danish population-based study. In addition, we assessed whether dyslipidemia modified these associations. This study comprised 15,922 participants with type 2 diabetes from the Health in Central Denmark study. Multinomial logistic regression was used to estimate odds ratios (ORs) and 95% confidence intervals (CIs) for individual and joint microvascular diabetes complications. The models adjusted for potential confounders, including sociodemographic factors, lifestyle behaviors, and health conditions. Inverse probability of treatment weighting (IPTW) balanced measured confounders between periodontitis and nonperiodontitis participants. Sensitivity analyses tested the findings' robustness by estimating E-values for unmeasured confounding and varying microvascular complication definitions. After IPTW, adjusted models revealed that diabetic neuropathy (OR 1.36, 95% CI 1.14 to 1.63) and retinopathy (OR 1.21, 95% CI 1.03 to 1.43) were significantly associated with moderate/severe periodontitis. Moreover, the coexistence of microvascular complications increased the odds 1.5-fold for moderate/severe periodontitis (OR 1.51, 95% CI 1.23 to 1.85). An effect modification of dyslipidemia on an additive scale was found, indicated by a positive relative excess risk due to interaction of 0.24 for neuropathy, 0.11 for retinopathy, and 0.44 for both complications. Sensitivity analysis ruled out unmeasured confounders and microvascular complication definitions as explanatory factors. Diabetic neuropathy and retinopathy, individually and combined, were associated with moderate/severe periodontitis. In addition, dyslipidemia had an additive positive effect modification on diabetic microvascular complications, elevating the odds of moderate/severe periodontitis. These findings may aid in identifying at-risk subgroups for diabetes-related microvascular complications and periodontitis, optimizing efforts to mitigate disease burden.

Abstract
We report a measurement of exclusive J/ψ and ψ(2s) photoproduction in Au+Au ultraperipheral collisions at sqrt[s_{NN}]=200 GeV using the STAR detector. For the first time, (i) the ψ(2s) photoproduction in midrapidity at the Relativistic Heavy-Ion Collider has been experimentally measured; (ii) nuclear suppression factors are measured for both the coherent and incoherent J/ψ production. At average photon-nucleon center-of-mass energy of 25.0 GeV, the coherent and incoherent J/ψ cross sections of Au nuclei are found to be 71±10% and 36±7%, respectively, of that of free protons. The stronger suppression observed in the incoherent production provides a new experimental handle to study the initial-state parton density in heavy nuclei. Data are compared with theoretical models quantitatively.

Abstract
Tunchang pigs, mainly distributed throughout Hainan Province of China, are well-known for their superior meat quality, crude feed tolerance, and adaptability to high temperatures and humidity. Runs of homozygosity (ROH) can provide valuable information about the inbreeding coefficient in individuals and selection signals that may reveal candidate genes associated with key functional traits. Runs of heterozygosity (ROHet) are commonly associated with balance selection, which can help us understand the adaptive evolutionary history of domestic animals. In this study, we investigated ROHs and ROHets in 88 Tunchang pigs. We also compared the estimates of inbreeding coefficients in individuals calculated based on four methods. In summary, we detected a total of 16 ROH islands in our study, and 100 genes were found within ROH regions. These genes were correlated with economically important traits such as reproduction (e.g., SERPIND1, HIRA), meat quality (e.g., PI4KA, TBX1), immunity (e.g., ESS2, RANBP1), adaption to heat stress (TXNRD2 and DGCR8), and crude food tolerance (TRPM6). Moreover, we discovered 18 ROHet islands harbouring genes associated with reproduction (e.g., ARHGEF12, BMPR2), immune system (e.g., BRD4, DNMT3B). These findings may help us design effective breeding and conservation strategies for this unique breed.

Abstract
Quaternary phosphonium salts (QPS) are significant structural motifs in drugs, materials, and catalysts. Here, a photoactivated approach for the selective late-stage synthesis of QPS utilizing organothianthrenium salts and tertiary phosphines is presented with high yields and broad functional group compatibility. Additionally, the synthetic utility of this protocol is demonstrated by in situ generation of QPS via C-H functionalization and its fluorescence confocal imaging of mitochondrial localization in cells.

Abstract
Selective laser sintering (SLS) is an emerging three-dimensional (3D) printing technology that uses a laser to fuse powder particles together, which allows the fabrication of personalized solid dosage forms. It possesses great potential for commercial use. However, a major drawback of SLS is the need to heat the powder bed while printing; this leads to high energy consumption (and hence a large carbon footprint), which may hinder its translation to industry. In this study, the concept of cold laser sintering (CLS) is introduced. In CLS, the aim is to sinter particles without heating the powder bed, where the energy from the laser, alone, is sufficient to fuse adjacent particles. The study demonstrated that a laser power above 1.8 W was sufficient to sinter both KollicoatIR and Eudragit L100-55-based formulations at room temperature. The cold sintering printing process was found to reduce carbon emissions by 99% compared to a commercial SLS printer. The CLS printed formulations possessed characteristics comparable to those made with conventional SLS printing, including a porous microstructure, fast disintegration time, and molecular dispersion of the drug. It was also possible to achieve higher drug loadings than was possible with conventional SLS printing. Increasing the laser power from 1.8 to 3.0 W increased the flexural strength of the printed formulations from 0.6 to 1.6 MPa, concomitantly increasing the disintegration time from 5 to over 300 s. CLS appears to offer a new route to laser-sintered pharmaceuticals that minimizes impact on the environment and is fit for purpose in Industry 5.0.

Abstract
Statistical combinations of searches for charginos and neutralinos using various decay channels are performed using 139 fb^{-1} of pp collision data at sqrt[s]=13 TeV with the ATLAS detector at the Large Hadron Collider. Searches targeting pure-wino chargino pair production, pure-wino chargino-neutralino production, or Higgsino production decaying via standard model W, Z, or h bosons are combined to extend the mass reach to the produced supersymmetric particles by 30-100 GeV. The depth of the sensitivity of the original searches is also improved by the combinations, lowering the 95% C.L. cross-section upper limits by 15%-40%.

A risk-prediction score about colorectal lesions based on the Chinese population of high-risk participants aged 50-65 years. Public Health 2024; 234:164-169. [PMID: 39013238 DOI: 10.1016/j.puhe.2024.06.010] [Citation(s) in RCA: 0] [Impact Index Per Article: 0] [Reference Citation Analysis] [Abstract] [Key Words] [Track Full Text] [Journal Information] [Subscribe] [Scholar Register] [Received: 11/04/2023] [Revised: 05/26/2024] [Accepted: 06/08/2024] [Indexed: 07/18/2024]
Abstract
OBJECTIVES The present study aims to develop an effective risk-prediction score (RPS) to improve screening efficiency and contribute to secondary prevention of colorectal cancer (CRC). STUDY DESIGN Screening for colorectal lesions. METHODS 14,398 high-risk individuals aged 50-65 years were included. The baseline characteristics of participants with and without colorectal lesions (CL) were compared using a Chi-squared test. The overall population was randomly split into a training set and a test set in the ratio of 80% and 20%. One-factor and multifactor logistic regression analyses were performed in the training set to construct the RPS (scores of 0-9.62). Area under curve (AUC) was calculated as an estimate of predictive performance using the receiver-operating characteristic (ROC) curve in the test set. RESULTS In the study population, being male, advanced age, current or previous smoking, weekly alcohol consumption, high body mass index (BMI ≥24 kg/m2), and previously detected colonic polyp were associated with higher risk of CL. Compared to the low-risk group (0-2.31 points), the ORs and 95% confidence intervals (CIs) for the moderate-risk group (2.31-3.85 points) and high-risk group (3.85-8.42 points) were 1.58 (1.44, 1.73) and 2.52 (2.30, 2.76), respectively. For every 1-point increase in score, participants had a 27% increased risk of CL (OR:1.27, 95% CI: 1.24, 1.30). For participants with CL predicted by RPS, the area under the working characteristic curve was 0.61 (P < 0.001). CONCLUSION Our RPS can quickly and efficiently identify multiple lesions of the colorectum. Combining RPS with existing screening strategies facilitates the identification of very high-risk individuals and may help to prevent CRC.

Abstract
AIMS The purpose of the study was to build a radiomics model using Dual-energy CT (DECT) to predict pathological grading of invasive lung adenocarcinoma. MATERIALS AND METHODS The retrospective study enrolled 107 patients (80 low-grade and 27 high-grade) with invasive lung adenocarcinoma before surgery. Clinical features, radiographic characteristics, and quantitative parameters were measured. Virtual monoenergetic images at 50kev and 150kev were reconstructed for extracting DECT radiomics features. To select features for constructing models, Pearson's correlation analysis, intraclass correlation coefficients, and least absolute shrinkage and selection operator penalized logistic regression were performed. Four models, including the DECT radiomics model, the clinical-DECT model, the conventional CT radiomics model, and the mixed model, were established. Area under the curve (AUC) and decision curve analysis were used to measure the performance and the clinical value of the models. RESULTS The radiomics model based on DECT exhibited outstanding performance in predicting tumor differentiation, with an AUC of 0.997 and 0.743 in the training and testing sets, respectively. Incorporating tumor density, lobulation, and effective atomic number at AP, the clinical-DECT model showed a comparable performance with an AUC of 0.836 in both the training and testing sets. In comparison to the conventional CT radiomics model (AUC of 0.998 in the training and 0.529 in the testing set) and the mixed model (AUC of 0.988 in the training and 0.707 in the testing set), the DECT radiomics model demonstrated a greater AUC value and provided patients with a more significant net benefit in the testing set. CONCLUSIONS In contrast to the conventional CT radiomics model, the DECT radiomics model produced greater predictive performance in pathological grading of invasive lung adenocarcinoma.

Abstract
Objective: To establish a Plaque-reduction Neutralization Test (PRNT) for the detection of neutralizing antibody titers of Human Respiratory Syncytial Virus (HRSV) and optimize the conditions for preliminary application. Methods: The CHO expression system was used to produce palivizumab monoclonal antibody (palivizumab) and the influencing factors such as cell type, cell culture duration, fixation and permeabilization protocols, and blocking agents. The reproducibility of the method was verified and its correlation was verified with conventional PRNT. Finally, the optimized PRNT assay was further used to determine neutralizing antibody titers against HRSV subtypes A and B in BALB/c mouse serum (immunized by intramuscular injection of HRSV fusion proteins). Results: Palivizumab was expressed at approximately 50 mg/L. The optimal working conditions for PRNT were as follows: culturing HEp-2 cells for 2 days, fixing with 4% (V/V) paraformaldehyde at room temperature for 15 min followed by 0.2% (V/V) Triton X-100 permeabilization for 15 minutes as the optimal fixation-permeabilization and removing the blocking step. The overall coefficient of variation (CV) for the reproducibility validation of this method was <15%, showing a good linear relationship with the conventional PRNT. The Spearman correlation coefficient rs was 0.983. This method was used to detect neutralizing antibody titers in mouse sera against HRSV subtype A strain long and subtype B strain 9320, and the fusion proteins combined with AlOH and CpG adjuvant induced the highest neutralizing antibody titers in mice. Conclusion: The HRSV neutralizing antibody assay established in this study is rapid, reproducible, high-throughput, and can be used to detect neutralizing antibodies to HRSV subtypes A and B.

Abstract
Perioperative stroke is a serious complication that leads to perioperative death, prolonged hospitalization, and permanent or temporary neurological impairment. Early identification and diagnosis is the key of improving the prognosis of perioperative stroke patients, which requires surgeons to have a complete understanding of patient risk factors, early rapid identification of symptoms and timely diagnosis. The core of the prevention strategy is delaying the operating time, reducing known risk factors, drug intervention (such as the use of antiplatelet drugs or anticoagulants), optimizing the control of the basic disease, and identifying high-risk patients in the preoperative evaluation to implement a more personalized perioperative management plan, to reduce the incidence of perioperative stroke and related adverse consequences.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Immune checkpoint inhibitors improve the efficacy of first-line chemotherapy for patients with programmed death-ligand 1 (PD-L1)-positive unresectable locally advanced/metastatic triple-negative breast cancer (aTNBC), but randomised data in rapidly relapsing aTNBC are scarce. PATIENTS AND METHODS IMpassion132 (NCT03371017) enrolled patients with aTNBC relapsing <12 months after last chemotherapy dose (anthracycline and taxane required) or surgery for early TNBC. PD-L1 status was centrally assessed using SP142 before randomisation. Initially patients were enrolled irrespective of PD-L1 status. From August 2019, enrolment was restricted to PD-L1-positive (tumour immune cell ≥1%) aTNBC. Patients were randomised 1:1 to placebo or atezolizumab 1200 mg every 21 days with investigator-selected chemotherapy until disease progression or unacceptable toxicity. Stratification factors were chemotherapy regimen (carboplatin plus gemcitabine or capecitabine monotherapy), visceral (lung and/or liver) metastases and (initially) PD-L1 status. The primary endpoint was overall survival (OS), tested hierarchically in patients with PD-L1-positive tumours and then, if positive, in the modified intent-to-treat (mITT) population (all-comer patients randomised pre-August 2019). Secondary endpoints included progression-free survival (PFS), objective response rate (ORR) and safety. RESULTS Among 354 patients with rapidly relapsing PD-L1-positive aTNBC, 68% had a disease-free interval of <6 months and 73% received carboplatin/gemcitabine. The OS hazard ratio was 0.93 (95% confidence interval 0.73-1.20, P = 0.59; median 11.2 months with placebo versus 12.1 months with atezolizumab). mITT and subgroup results were consistent. Median PFS was 4 months across treatment arms and populations. ORRs were 28% with placebo versus 40% with atezolizumab. Adverse events (predominantly haematological) were similar between arms and as expected with atezolizumab plus carboplatin/gemcitabine or capecitabine following recent chemotherapy exposure. CONCLUSIONS OS, which is dismal in patients with TNBC relapsing within <12 months, was not improved by adding atezolizumab to chemotherapy. A biology-based definition of intrinsic resistance to immunotherapy in aTNBC is urgently needed to develop novel therapies for these patients in next-generation clinical trials.

Abstract
The LHCb Collaboration measures production of the exotic hadron χ_{c1}(3872) in proton-nucleus collisions for the first time. Comparison with the charmonium state ψ(2S) suggests that the exotic χ_{c1}(3872) experiences different dynamics in the nuclear medium than conventional hadrons, and comparison with data from proton-proton collisions indicates that the presence of the nucleus may modify χ_{c1}(3872) production rates. This is the first measurement of the nuclear modification factor of an exotic hadron.

Combination of Searches for Resonant Higgs Boson Pair Production Using pp Collisions at sqrt[s]=13 TeV with the ATLAS Detector. PHYSICAL REVIEW LETTERS 2024; 132:231801. Abstract
A combination of searches for a new resonance decaying into a Higgs boson pair is presented, using up to 139 fb^{-1} of pp collision data at sqrt[s]=13 TeV recorded with the ATLAS detector at the LHC. The combination includes searches performed in three decay channels: bb[over ¯]bb[over ¯], bb[over ¯]τ^{+}τ^{-}, and bb[over ¯]γγ. No excess above the expected Standard Model background is observed and upper limits are set at the 95% confidence level on the production cross section of Higgs boson pairs originating from the decay of a narrow scalar resonance with mass in the range 251 GeV-5 TeV. The observed (expected) limits are in the range 0.96-600 fb (1.2-390 fb). The limits are interpreted in the type-I two-Higgs-doublet model and the minimal supersymmetric standard model, and constrain parameter space not previously excluded by other searches.

Abstract
The fruit of Lycium barbarum (Lb), known as red goji berry, is a "superfruit" due to its abundance of bioactive compounds. Among these compounds, dicaffeoylspermidine derivatives (DCSPDs) have anti-oxidant and anti-Alzheimer's Disease activity. This study employed ultra-high-performance liquid chromatography with tandem mass spectrometry to investigate metabolic changes during the development and ripening stages of red goji berries. Totally 97 compounds, including 51 DCSPDs, were tentatively identified. Correlation analysis of these DCSPDs revealed that glycosyltransferases (GTs) play an important role in the formation of glycosylated DCSPDs. In vitro experiments characterized 3 novel GTs could add a glucosyl moiety to N1-caffeoyl-N10-dihydrocaffeoyl spermidine. Homologous GTs from L. ruthenicum (Lr) exhibited similar activity, despite the absence of abundant glycosylated DCSPDs in Lr. These findings provide insights into the metabolic changes and interconnections among active compounds in red goji berries. The identified GTs hold potential for metabolic engineering of DCSPDs and functional food development.

Chen GY, Zhou CQ, Li H, Mao XZ. Efficacy and safety of topical NSAIDs combined with physiotherapy for frozen shoulder: a randomized controlled trial. EUROPEAN REVIEW FOR MEDICAL AND PHARMACOLOGICAL SCIENCES 2024; 28:3761-3770. [PMID: 38884511 DOI: 10.26355/eurrev_202406_36381] [Citation(s) in RCA: 0] [Impact Index Per Article: 0] [Reference Citation Analysis] [Abstract] [MESH Headings] [Subscribe] [Scholar Register] [Indexed: 06/18/2024]
Abstract
OBJECTIVE Frozen shoulder is a prevalent condition among individuals in their middle and later years. Invasive therapy has shown promising results in the treatment of frozen shoulders, but its widespread adoption has been hampered by high costs and the need for advanced medical technology. As a result, patients with frozen shoulders often turn to non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs) for symptomatic relief. However, the oral administration of NSAIDs can lead to troublesome adverse effects on the gastrointestinal, cardiovascular, and urinary systems. In contrast, topical NSAIDs have gained attention for their excellent efficacy and lower adverse effects in various chronic pain conditions. Therefore, our study aimed to investigate the efficacy and safety of topical NSAIDs in improving pain and mobility among patients with frozen shoulders. PATIENTS AND METHODS A total of 108 patients experiencing moderate to severe pain and mobility impairment due to frozen shoulder were enrolled in this study. The participants were randomly assigned to either the experimental group (n=72) or the control group (n=36). The experimental group received daily treatment with the loxoprofen hydrogel patch (LOX-P) in addition to basic rehabilitation physiotherapy. The control group was treated with flurbiprofen cataplasm (FLU-C) twice a day, along with rehabilitation physiotherapy. The primary endpoint for evaluating the efficacy of the two patches was the Constant-Murley score (CMS). Clinical symptom data, adverse events, and patient satisfaction were also recorded. RESULTS After 14 days of treatment, the effective rate was 66.67% (n=48) in the experimental group and 41.67% (n=15) in the control group. The overall difference in the effective rates was 25.00% (95% CI=5.20-42.52; p=0.013). The safety profiles of the two topical agents were similar, with only a few adverse events reported. CONCLUSIONS The loxoprofen hydrogel patch demonstrates a significant ability to alleviate shoulder pain and restore shoulder function in the treatment of frozen shoulder, with minimal adverse reactions. Azimuthal Angle Correlations of Muons Produced via Heavy-Flavor Decays in 5.02 TeV Pb+Pb and pp Collisions with the ATLAS Detector. PHYSICAL REVIEW LETTERS 2024; 132:202301. Abstract
Angular correlations between heavy quarks provide a unique probe of the quark-gluon plasma created in ultrarelativistic heavy-ion collisions. Results are presented of a measurement of the azimuthal angle correlations between muons originating from semileptonic decays of heavy quarks produced in 5.02 TeV Pb+Pb and pp collisions at the LHC. The muons are measured with transverse momenta and pseudorapidities satisfying p_{T}^{μ}>4 GeV and |η^{μ}|<2.4, respectively. The distributions of azimuthal angle separation Δϕ for muon pairs having pseudorapidity separation |Δη|>0.8, are measured in different Pb+Pb centrality intervals and compared to the same distribution measured in pp collisions at the same center-of-mass energy. Results are presented separately for muon pairs with opposite-sign charges, same-sign charges, and all pairs. A clear peak is observed in all Δϕ distributions at Δϕ∼π, consistent with the parent heavy-quark pairs being produced via hard-scattering processes. The widths of that peak, characterized using Cauchy-Lorentz fits to the Δϕ distributions, are found to not vary significantly as a function of Pb+Pb collision centrality and are similar for pp and Pb+Pb collisions. This observation will provide important constraints on theoretical descriptions of heavy-quark interactions with the quark-gluon plasma.

Abstract
Objective: To explore the efficacy and safety of cryopreservation-free integrated autologous hematopoietic stem cell transplantation (HSCT) model for patients with multiple myeloma. Methods: A total of 96 patients with newly diagnosed multiple myeloma (NDMM) between July 31, 2020, and December 31, 2022, were retrospectively analyzed, of which 41 patients in the observation group received integrated non-cryopreserved transplantation mode. After hematopoietic stem cells were mobilized and collected, melphalan was started immediately for pre-transplant conditioning, and non-cryopreserved grafts from the medical blood transfusion refrigerator were directly injected intravenously into the patient within 24-48 h after the melphalan conditioning. The control group consisted of 55 patients who received traditional transplantation mode. After hematopoietic stem cells were collected, stem cell cryopreservation was performed in liquid nitrogen, and then the transplant plans were started at the right time. All patients received mobilization of autologous hematopoietic stem cells using the G-CSF combined with the plerixafor. Results: ① A total of 34 patients (82.9% ) with VGPR plus CR in the observation group were significantly higher than 33 patients (60.0% ) in the control group (P=0.016). ②Compared with the control group, the incidence of grade 1 oral mucosal inflammation was higher in the observation group (P<0.001) ; however, the incidence of grades 2 and 3 oral mucosal inflammation was lower (P=0.004, P=0.048), and neither group experienced grade 4 or above oral mucosal inflammation. The incidence of grade 1 diarrhea was higher in the observation group (P=0.002), whereas the incidence of grade 3 diarrhea was lower (P=0.007). No statistically significant difference was observed in the incidence of grade 4 diarrhea (P=0.506), and neither group experienced grade 5 diarrhea. ③ The incidence of bacterial infection in the observation group was lower than that in the control group (34.1% vs 65.5%, P=0.002), whereas no statistically significant difference was observed in the incidence of fungal infection (29.3% vs 31.4%, P=0.863) and viral infection (4.88% vs 3.64%, P=0.831). ④No statistically significant difference was observed in the implantation time of granulocytes and platelets between the observation and control groups [10 (8-20) days vs 11 (8-17) days, P=0.501; 13 (10-21) days vs 15 (10-20) days, P=0.245]. ⑤ All patients did not receive lenalidomide treatment 100 days post-transplantation. At 30 days post-transplantation, the CTL, NK, and Th cell counts in the observation group were lower than those in the control group (P<0.001, P=0.002, P=0.049), and the NKT cell counts were higher than those in the control group (P=0.024). At 100 days post-transplantation, the CTL, NKT, and Th cell counts in the observation group were higher than those in the control group (P=0.025, P=0.011, P=0.007), and no statistically significant difference in NK cell counts was observed between the two groups (P=0.396). ⑥ The median follow-up was 18 (4-33) months. The overall 2-year survival rates of the observation and control groups post-transplantation were 91.5% and 78.2%, respectively (P=0.337). The recurrence-free survival rates were 85.3% and 77.6%, respectively (P=0.386), and the cumulative recurrence rates were 9.8% and 16.9%, respectively (P=0.373) . Conclusion: In NDMM, the cryopreservation-free integrated autologous HSCT model can achieve similar therapeutic effects as traditional transplantation models, with lower rates of severe mucosal inflammation and infection compared with traditional transplantation models.

ZHONGHUA YI XUE ZA ZHI 2024; 104:1584-1589. [PMID: 38742345 DOI: 10.3760/cma.j.cn112137-20231208-01318] [Citation(s) in RCA: 0] [Impact Index Per Article: 0] [Reference Citation Analysis] [Abstract] [MESH Headings] [Subscribe] [Scholar Register] [Indexed: 05/16/2024]
Abstract
Objective: To explore the value of detection of epidermal growth factor receptor (EGFR) gene amplification in peripheral blood rare cells in the assessment of benign and malignant pulmonary nodules. Methods: A total of 262 patients with pulmonary nodules were selected as the retrospectively study subjects from the Second Affiliated Hospital of Army Military Medical University and Peking Union Medical College Hospital from July 2022 to August 2023. There were 98 males and 164 females, with the age range from 16 to 79 (52.1±12.1) years. The EGFR gene amplification testing was performed on the rare cells enriched from patients' peripheral blood, and the clinical manifestations, CT imaging features, histopathological and/or pathological cytological confirmed results of patients were collected. The receiver operating characteristic (ROC) curve was used to determine the optimal cut-off value of the method of detection of EGFR gene amplification in peripheral blood rare cells, and its diagnostic efficacy was evaluated. Results: Among the 262 patients, 143 were malignant pulmonary nodules and 119 were benign pulmonary nodules. The differences between malignant pulmonary nodules and benign pulmonary nodules in nodule diameter and nodule density were statistically significant (both P<0.001), while the differences in age, gender and nodule number were not statistically significant (all P>0.05). The number [M (Q1, Q3)] of EGFR gene amplification positive rare cells in patients with malignant pulmonary nodule was 8 (6, 11), which was higher than that in patients with benign pulmonary nodule [2 (1, 4), P<0.001]. The ROC curve results showed that when the optimal cut-off value was 5 (that was, the number of EGFR gene amplification positive rare cells was>5), the area under the curve (AUC) of the detection of EGFR gene amplification in peripheral blood rare cells for discrimination of benign and malignant pulmonary lesions was 0.816 (95%CI: 0.761-0.870), with a sensitivity of 83.2%, a specificity of 80.7%, and an accuracy of 82.1%. Based on the analysis of the diameter of the nodules, the AUC for distinguishing between benign and malignant pulmonary nodules with diameter 5-9 mm and 10-30 mm was 0.797 (95%CI: 0.707-0.887) and 0.809 (95%CI: 0.669-0.949), respectively, with sensitivity, specificity and accuracy reached 75% or above. Based on the analysis of nodule density, the AUC for distinguishing between benign and malignant solid nodule and subsolid nodule was 0.845 (95%CI: 0.751-0.939) and 0.790 (95%CI: 0.701-0.880), respectively, with sensitivity, specificity and accuracy reached 75% or above. Based on the analysis of nodule number, the AUC for distinguishing between benign and malignant solitary pulmonary nodule and multiple pulmonary nodule was 0.830 (95%CI: 0.696-0.965) and 0.817 (95%CI: 0.758-0.877), respectively, with sensitivity, specificity and accuracy reached 80% or above. Conclusion: The detection of EGFR gene amplification in peripheral blood rare cells contributes to the evaluation of benign and malignant pulmonary nodules, and can be used in the auxiliary diagnosis of benign and malignant pulmonary nodules.

First Observation of a Three-Resonance Structure in e^{+}e^{-}→Nonopen Charm Hadrons. PHYSICAL REVIEW LETTERS 2024; 132:191902. Abstract
We report the measurement of the inclusive cross sections for e^{+}e^{-}→nOCH (where nOCH denotes non-open charm hadrons) with improved precision at center-of-mass (c.m.) energies from 3.645 to 3.871 GeV. We observe three resonances: R(3760), R(3780), and R(3810) with significances of 8.1σ, 13.7σ, and 8.8σ, respectively. The R(3810) state is observed for the first time, while the R(3760) and R(3780) states are observed for the first time in the nOCH cross sections. Two sets of resonance parameters describe the energy-dependent line shape of the cross sections well. In set I [set II], the R(3810) state has mass (3805.7±1.1±2.7) [(3805.7±1.1±2.7)] MeV/c^{2}, total width (11.6±2.9±1.9) [(11.5±2.8±1.9)] MeV, and an electronic width multiplied by the nOCH decay branching fraction of (10.9±3.8±2.5) [(11.0±3.4±2.5)] eV. In addition, we measure the branching fractions B[R(3760)→nOCH]=(25.2±16.1±30.4)%[(6.4±4.8±7.7)%] and B[R(3780)→nOCH]=(12.3±6.6±8.3)%[(10.4±4.8±7.0)%] for the first time. The R(3760) state can be interpreted as an open-charm (OC) molecular state, but containing a simple four-quark state component. The R(3810) state can be interpreted as a hadrocharmonium state.
